You are the PRODUCER, a former soldier hired to manage a group of teenage girls on their rise to stardom, assuming they don't get killed in the process!

You return the office in a rather down state. The attempt on Rin's life yesterday was still wearing on you, and the fact that you had no leads was incredibly frustrating. As a precaution, you had Rin stay over at the office for the night, where the other girls could keep an eye on her. For her part, Rin seemed to be taking things well, but you could tell she was a bit shaken at the thought that she was nearly sucked through a jet engine.

However, you were still the Producer, and you had a job to do.

"Ah, Producer, you're here." Jenner greets you as you enter. "You have an important call waiting for you in your office."

Been doing some thinking and I think DeRosa sent mercs to sabotage the show.
1. We have 2 known enemies (DeRosa and the Worker's Union)
-the worker's main enemy is our Sponsor not us
-DeRosa told us not to enter their territory or else
2. The location of the attack: The Airfield
-we were only attacked at the airfield. The airfield is presumably located in District 1 or 2 (one of which is known DeRosa territory)
3. Why hire mercs instead of sending idols?
-whoever did it didn't want to be directly connected to the crime
-hiding their true capabilities by outsourcing(?)
4. How did they find out?
-the organizers posted who would be there as well as the events taking place most likely in a schedule that's publicly available
5. Why not go in guns blazing?
-the people who hired the mercs don't want to be caught, and made it look like an accident. They don't want to be found out.
-if terrorists did it, they would want it to be as blatant as possible for maximum publicity since, Rin, the face of the group being assassinated would send a message to any of our associates (though there are much better acts of terror that send messages). The person who made the hit did not want publicity, and covered it up with "an accident".

OR, an unknown enemy is doing a false-flag operation to divert our attention from a real threat.

"All right, I'll take the call." You say. "Are they on hold?"

"Yes, please hurry." Jenner says.

You head over to your office and activate your phone. You see the display screen show a middle aged, bespectacled man. In the corner, you can see the Neucom logo prominently displayed.

"Ah, you must the Producer! I am Dr. Simon Cohen, head of Neucom Incorporated Research and Development! I do apologize for calling so early in the morning!"

"Oh, it's no bother." You respond, stiffening up a bit. "What is this about?"

"Ah, well, we first would like to express our gratitude for pointing out the 'issues' with our aircraft at the airshow yesterday. It helped us avoid a possibly catastrophic PR disaster!"

"Well, lives were at risk." You nod,

"Yes, yes, of course." Dr. Cohen nods. "But also, secondly, it seems you've caught the attention of some of our executives. Our rival, General Resources, has recently acquired an entertainment company to improve their image, and my superiors believe that they need to make a matching move. In fact, your company is up for consideration for sponsorship!"

"I'm honored." You smile. "But, I would have to wonder why an R&D scientist would be giving me this news."

"Ah... well, this is where the hard part comes in." Dr. Cohen sighs. "My superiors also want a 'demonstration' of your idols' skills, to see if you have what it takes. Recently, some very VERY valuable proprietary software was stolen from us. If your idols were to recover the stolen property, well, I believe you'll have a new sponsor. Unfortunately, I cannot say any more, unless you accept our offer."

"Well, what would this sponsorship entail?" You ask.

"In addition to providing you with extra funds, you would gain access to Neucom's item inventory, return for advertising Neucom products."

Well, picking up a new sponsor certainly was tempting, but then again, you weren't too sure about their entry requirements...

"Are any of them General Resources?" Dr. Cohen asks.

"No."

"Then we should have no problem!" Dr. Cohen chuckles. "We already have an idea of who stole our property and where they are hiding. All you need to do is retrieve our property. However, I recommend this be done soon, as every minute that passes is another minute they can use to decrypt or sell our data."

"How soon are we talking about here?" You ask.

"By tonight. If you do not make a move, then our own security forces will and the deal will be canceled."

"Got it." You nod.

"Good! We will forward you all the relevant data. That should conclude things for now, unless there's anything else you'd like to ask?

"Good to know."

With that, Dr. Cohen gives his farewell and the screen winks out.

You head to the data center to pay a visit to your resident hacker/shut in.

"Hey, Himawari, any luck with those database searches?" You ask.

"Nothing yet. Seems like they did a good job covering their tracks." Himawari sighs. "Also, we got a huge data package from Neucom. I already scanned it. Looks clean."

"Good, open it up then."

"Okay." Himawari yawns and hits a key.

The main screen in front of you suddenly blossoms up to show various files and documents you can access. You pore over everything. Every picture, every document, ever last line of code.

Apparently, the thieves were a bunch of freelance mercs. Their group was estimated to be six strong, and they were good at what they did. Unlike most of the enemies you were facing up til now, these weren't just a bunch of poorly trained thugs. They were experienced operators. However, they were still thieves, and the intel noted that they'd rather direct fights if they could. They were mostly only equipped with small arms, but had a multitude of gadgets that could help them sneak around, like optic camo and IR smoke grenades. Looking at Neucom's further notes, you find that your employers don't particularly care of the thieves were taken dead or alive.

>>32049345
Next was their safehouse, located in an abandoned apartment complex in District Six. No civilians around, so you wouldn't have to worry about collateral damage or cops interfering. However, that meant their place was well fortified. There were cameras and sensors all around the perimeter, reinforced security doors and windows to discourage forced entry, and no doubt hidden escape routes Neucom's recon teams didn't account for.

Finally, there was the stolen property itself. Unfortunately, Neucom didn't seem willing to talk about it. All they mentioned was that it was stored on a highly encrypted disk and that it was your utmost priority to recover it intact.

"Himawari, do you think we can try and get more intel on those mercs?" You ask.

"We could." She nods. "It's risky, though. If they're smart, they'd have sniffer programs in place to warn them if somebody's trying to search hem out. I mean, I'm pretty sure I can avoid them if it's just the off the shelf junk, but you can never be too sure...

Himawari manages to glean a bit more data about the mercs. Apparently, they don't really have an official name, but they're definitely linked to a lot of high profile heists, particularly targeted at megacorps' valuable assets. They were also a very tightly knit group who would generally refuse to leave any one of their number behind. You guess these were the types of thieves who believed in honor among themselves.

It also means a possible thing you can use against them.

"Good job, Himawari."

"Don't mention it." Himawari says sleepily.

Finally caught up on the previous threads, and the idea of Producer and Cole switching bodies is actually holding up well for some reason. I mean all the other suggestions to who Producer switches with are fine, but they don't seem to live as long or have an impact as this one. I swear that it has to be their character dynamic that makes this idea stick.

Anyways, if P-san does switch bodies with Cole, the first thing he should do is to look at himself in front of the mirror, while trying on different outfits like super girly, cat ears and tail, or more lewd things like fancy, lacy lingerie like a camisole, maid, and maybe swimwear if Cole doesn't kill us later.

"Jenner." You say in your. "Get the combat idols organized and send them down to the armory. We're getting ready for a mission."

"How soon?" Jenner asks.

"Tonight. We can pick up another sponsor if we can pull this off." You say.

"Got it. I'll summon them right away."

You head downstairs just as Rochelle, Cole, Julie, Melissa, and Morgan come down to meet you, obviously a bit confused at being called down on such short notice.

"What's the emergency?" Cole yawns. "I thought we didn't have any jobs today."

"Change of plans, girls." You say, transmitting the mission data to all of them. "We've got a retrieval job. Grab the item and get out."

"What about the perps?" Julie asks.

"Fighting them is not a priority, but otherwise, you can go nuts on them." You say. "But remember, our mission is to recover the disk they stole, INTACT. Is that clear, Cole?"

"Why the hell are you singling me out!?!" Cole sputters.

"I know how quick you are to use your powers. I don't want you to accidentally fry it or anything."

"F-fine." Cole grunts.

"How dangerous is this going to be?" Melissa asks.

"They guys aren't cheap thugs or dime store labor. They're mercs. The real deal." You say grimly. "So expect them to well armed, with the experience and training to put those weapons to good use."

We can try to go in quietly, but we'd have to dodge all their electronic security, which can be a bit tricky, especially if they supplement it with actual patrols. That's all I can come up with, unless we do more recon of the sight.

"That's risky, considering that there's nobody else around. If we're spotted, they'll know something is up." Melissa warns.

That is a valid point, if our mission was to eliminate them. But it's not, it's to go, in get something and bug out. Winning a direct fire fight against them will be tough, no doubt. Having a separate element go in while others distract is more ideal.

But who said we had to go into a direct fire fight? Who said we had to fight fair? So said we actually had to start shooting? A distraction can be anything, as long as we grab their attention and hold it long enough then we succeed in doing so.

Rochelle is better off with the AR than a EBR.

Melissa doesn't have, from what I recall, heavy armor training it be a waste to give it to her.

You decide that now is not the time for fancy or complicated plans. You're just going to handle this like you did in your army days. With great amounts of speed and violence. It worked for you in Kurdistan, and it should work for you here.

"All right, girls, we're going in loud." You announce. "Stig will knock a hole through the front door to cause a distraction, and we'll take advantage of that it bust into their safehouse and retrieve the target."

"So how are we going to split up duties?" Rochelle asks. "At a minimum, we're going to need two teams for this."

Hm, she was right. There had to be a team to distract the mercs, and another team to actually breach their hideout.

"How about you organize the teams?" You grin.

"W-what? Me?" Rochelle blinks.

"That's part of the job of being the team leader." You nod. "Use your own discretion."

"Well, um." Rochelle puts a hand up her chin. "Okay, let's see.... the distraction team's going to be taking the brunt of the attention, so Cole and Julie should be up front. Me, Melissa, and K-Zwolf will be the infiltration team, and Morgan should post up somewhere high so she can provide overwatch. How's that?"

"Sounds good." You nod. "You all heard her, right?"

"Right!" The other girls affirm.

"Good job Rochelle." You smile as you pat her on the head.

"T-thanks sir." Rochelle blushes and nods at the praise.

"Okay! Everybody's got their assignments! Let's get packed up and roll out!"

Stig powers up the SUV and you and the idols all pile in.

"You know where to go, right?" You ask Stig.

Stig nods and guns the engine, and the SUV roars out of the garage.

It's still midday by the time your SUV arrives at the operation zone. Stig is careful to park the vehicle out of sight of the mercs' hideout, in a small, abandoned parking garage that you're using as a temporary staging point. Your idols are all hanging out in the shade, messing around and checking their weapons for the 100th time.

You look at the sun and then at your watch. You could attack now while it was still daylight, and your idols could see well. On the other hand, the mercs would be able to see you, too. You could wait till night time, where you're sure your idols would have the advantage due to their various sensing tech and abilities. However, you fear that if you wait too long, the mercs might do something unexpected and mess up your plans.

"All right, girls, we have no time to waste." You say. "We're going in right now."

"Really?" Rochelle gasps.

"Yeah. No telling what would happen if we wait. Cole, Julie, load up in the SUV. Stig, you should know what to do."

Stig nods and gives the thumbs up.

"Rochelle, you'll lead your team around the back. Morgan, I trust you know where you can best set up?"

"Da." Morgan nods. "Just give me five minutes."

"Go." You say.

As your idols get into position, you head to the top floor of the parking garage, where you have a good view of the surrounding area. While you wanted nothing more than to join in on the assault, your job was to lead coordinate the girls, and you couldn't do it effectively in the midst of combat. You continually check your Harbinger feeds to track the progress of your idols. Stig keeps the SUV idling just around a corner from the building. Rochelle leads her small fireteam up to the chain link separating them from the hideout before dropping down to take cover in the tall grass. Morgan takes up position atop an old water tower.

"All right, Stig, its' all on you." You say.

Even from where you are, you can hear the SUV's engines roar and Stig powers the vehicle forward.

The SUV charges forward, blowing through the front gate of the chain link fence. However, before the SUV can even reach the front of the building, there's a large explosion and the front of the SUV is lifted into the air before dropping back down, rocking the entire vehicle. It takes you a brief second to realize the bastards actually mined the entrance. The SUV was effectively out of commission. You quickly check Stig, Cole, and Julie's vitals, and sigh in relief as they're all still in the green. Immediately, the SUV is riddled with bullets as two mercs emerge on the second floor of the building and start firing wildly. You see Cole and Julie crawl out of the SUV and take cover on the opposite side, while Stig takes control of the auto turret and and starts to return fire.

The other two mercs, realizing that there was sniper present, grab their fallen comrade and beat a hasty retreat inside.

This left Cole and Julie free to move out. They head for the front door to check it.

Meanwhile, you check in on Rochelle's team. With one swift kick, Melissa's augmetic leg crumples the door like paper and the two girls and cyberhound enter.

>STAR POWER SPENT
>1 point remains

Cole takes a deep breath and pumps as much energy into the conduit as she can. Suddenly, all of the building's lights flicker on and off rapidly and electricity surges through them, before finally exploding brilliantly as they're overloaded. You don't even want to think of what's happened to all of their fancier electronics.

"Good job, Cole." You say

"Yeah, I'm... just gonna sit down for a sec..." Cole sighs as she slumps to her knees.

"Um, should I just leave her here?" Julie asks.

"This is Rochelle. We're on the second floor and about to breach the last chamber." Rochelle announces.

"Got it!" Julie picks up Cole and starts carrying her back to the SUV.

"Sir, K-Zwolf is picking up audio." Rochelle whispers. "Piping it to you now."

"I told you this was a fucking bad idea! Neucom doesn't mess around!"

"Shut up! There's a way out of this!"

"They fucking fried all our systems! We're sitting ducks in here!"

"SHUT UP AND LET ME THINK FOR A SEC."

Good, from the sounds of it, it seemed the mercs were finally starting to crack and lose cohesion. That would make taking them out easier. However, you had to be careful. There was nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal backed into a corner. There was no telling what they would if they thought that had nothing to lose.

"Nope, party is just about to get started." Rochelle nods. "Melissa, care to do the honors?"

"Pleasure." Instead of heading for the door, Melissa takes position next to a wall instead and flexes her augmetic arm. With one smooth motion, she strikes, sending the entire wall caving in.

"Go go go!" Rochelle yells.

With quick, trained efficiency, both Rochelle and Julie return fire, stitching one of the mercs in a crossfire. Melissa socks the second merc with her augmetic fist, sending him spinning, while K-Zwolf pounces and subdues the last one.

The mercs were now all either dead, wounded, or incapacitated. Rochelle takes a deep breath as she surveys the situation.

"Melissa, see to Julie. Make sure her wound isn't serious." She says. "Morgan, keep an eye out for any unexpected company.."

"Roger!"

Rochelle then gazes at the scattered mercs. Only one seemed to be in any condition to talk, and he was still pinned under K-Zwolf, which looks at him menacingly.

You see Rochelle slowly walk towards him.

While you're tempted to intervene, you decide to stop at the last moment. You want to see how Rochelle would handle an emotionally charged moment like seeing a fellow squadmate get shot. Lord knows, you got pretty damn pissed the first time it happened in front of you, but the Major was always there to kick your ass if you ever went out of line. You just hope Rochelle wouldn't make the same mistake.

"Hey, you, or what my friend you shot here would call you, thieving scum." Rochelle stands over the downed merc. "Where's the disk?"

"I don't know what-"

"K-Zwolf. Give him the claw."

K-Zwolf's built in claws extend and dig into the merc's flesh, causing him to grunt in pain.

"Look here. Your buddies here are either dead or dying. One of my own friends got shot. It's been a VERY LONG FUCKING day for the both of us, so let's just cut straight to the point and tell me where the disk is. I don't particularly care what happens to you or your friends as long as I get it."

"I-It's in the safe! Right over there!" The merc croaks, craning his head to the back of the room. "The combination is 4462!"

"K-Zwolf. Scan for traps."

"NO TRAPS DETECTED."

Rochelle calmly walks over to the safe and punches in the code. It beeps for a brief second before finally opening, revealing a small, square device about the size of a Rubik's Cube. You look a the comparison photo and realize that's the thing you were looking for.

"Hm, looks like you weren't lying. Guess I don't have to waste a bullet." Rochelle says. "Sir, we got the package. What do you want to do with these guys?"

"Can't you tell from her vitals?"

"Julie, how are you feeling?" Rochelle turns to her friend.

"Like I said, just a scratch." Julie grins before wincing in pain.

"Yeah, I don't call a bullet nicking one of your ribs and nearly punching a lung 'just a scratch.'" Melissa sighs. "I'm just gonna pack the wound with biofoam and let the Doc worry about it."

"So, Julie is fine." Rochelle reports.

"Good." You nod. "Good job, girls. I know it was a tough mission on short notice, but you all pulled through.

"Hmph." Rochelle grunts as she looks at the cube. "All this trouble for this little thing. Wonder what's in it that's so important?"

"Careful, Rochelle, curiosity is not a healthy trait when it comes to megacorps." You warn.

"Yeah, well, it's not like I know how to decrypt this thing." Rochelle takes a closer look at the cube. You can see the Neucom logo, as well as the letters "NEMO" displayed on it.

Whatever you do, don't connect it to an internet connection or any systems. Hell, make that anything electronic.
God knows what would happen if we upload it into a human.

>Oh hell no. This is way above our pay grade.

Curiosity killed the cat.

As in "EXAM SYSTEM. STANDBY"?

...hey, wait, wasn't the scientist-techie from Valkyria Mercs Quest 2 also named Nemo?

"Oh, hell no. This is way above our pay grade." You grunt. "Don't even think about it."

"Awwww, okay." Himawari sighs.

"Rochelle, secure that cube and do not let ANYBODY touch it."

"Roger that."

Neucom security forces arrive barely five minutes later, their VTOLs circling the area like angry buzzards. You stand out front as one of the VTOLs touches down, and you see Dr. Cohen and a pair of Neucom private soldiers hop out.

"Ah! Producer! Excellent job!" Dr. Cohen says happily ."Can I see it?"

"Here you go." You say, holding out the cube for Dr. Cohen to take. He snatches it from your hand, and then runs a scanner over it.

"Well, Doctor? Is it the real deal?" You suited man says from the interior of the VTOL.

"Yes, it's my NEMO, all right!" Dr. Cohen nods furiously. "I almost thought I lost him forever!"

>"Him?"

We're recovered the objectivre.

We can ask a few questions and if they dont want to reply, everythings still fine. Its not like hacking into their box.

Sander Cohen, nutcase from Bioshock.
>>
>>32055549
Simon Cohen is an Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere character. He created NEMO.

At least let me get my image off first. Man...

There's no paranoia in this quest.

Lots of ace combat fans here.

Including those who imported yhe jp version of 3.
>>
>>32055635
I don't know if that's quite related, but I guess Cohen is pretty tame to Steinman.

Now that would be distressing.
>>
>>32055607
Never played Bioshock, so I wouldn't know about Sander.

You just keep quiet. You know better than to speak when not spoken to. Dr. Cohen quickly secures the cube in an armored case, which the two guards carry off back to the VTOL.

"So, what are you going to do with the mercs?" You ask.

"Oh, those thieves? Well, we'll probably keep them alive for a while. We have to know who hired them, after all. While we may have a good idea already, it can't hurt to make sure!"

"Uh huh." You nod. You knew how these things went down.

"And I see you had a few difficulties." Dr. Cohen points to your wrecked SUV.

"Ah, yeah, there were a few unforeseen complications." You sigh. "But no serious casualties."

"Ah, that's good, that's good." Dr. Cohen nods. Well, in addition to our sponsorship, we'll compensate your for the repair or replacement of your SUV!"

"Mind giving us a ride home, too?"

"Of course!" Dr. Cohen chuckles.

And so that's how you, Stig, and your idols rode back to the office in style. Dr. Cohen drops you off at your office, and promises all the relevant paperwork and "other data" you asked for would be sent to you shortly. Hopefully it would help you out in your investigations.

Meanwhile, Julie and Cole are sent to the infirmary. Julie's wounds were quickly treated, and she was expected to make a full recover in a day or two. Cole was just slightly exhausted, and just needed to eat some more salty foods to recharge her batteries. Nothing too serious, thankfully.

"Long day?" Jenner asks as you slump down in your chair.

"Unbelievably." You nod. "Anything happen?"

"Nothing major." Jenner shakes her head. "Got a huge file Neucom's legal department a few minutes ago... but I think I'll handle that in morning."

"Good call." You crane your head back. "It's not going to get any easier, is it?"

"Of course not, Producer."

>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week! Don't forget Gundam Build Fighters on Friday!
>Also, I'm running a SW89-based oneshot on Sunday! Don't miss it!
>>
>>32055684

Honestly. This is different from cracking open the box in secret.

Not sure why you guys are so scared. Since we're asking them directly, the worst they couls do is say its classified.
>>
>>32055737
Thanks for the run, Merc! Looking forward to tomorrow's quest!

>>32055717
I'm persuaded. I'll get both.

>>32055737
I still hope we can claim insurance on that SUV.

It's not fear, I just have no desire to know.

Hopefully we can get more Star Power next time.

Thank Merc,
Also Merc what was the percentage increase from last thread?

Also when are we going to have a stats increase, soon?
>>
>>32055765

We never took out insurance on it.
>>
>>32055737

We could have asked about "him" but I'm overall pretty happy, thanks for running Merc.

>>
>>32055737
Will we get any stat increase soon for some of our idols?
