You are Tumahti, and that's all you know about yourself. It looks like you have the power to control the earth. Temporarily reinvigorated by curiosity, you sweep the drillspear around, but nothing happens. You focus a bit harder and try again, and this time the soil responds. Intent is important. You can feel power flowing through you and into the earth, molding and sculpting it to your will. Small things are tunneling deep beneath you, a bird has landed on a shrub on the cliff, and you can sense the exact shape of the head and forearm of the robot-lizard-punching-monster-thing currently trying to punch you to death. You aren't sure if you can move enough dirt to not die if it knocks the wall over.

You almost forgot about that for a moment, there.

Cracks are starting to appear on the sturdy earthen wall you called up between you and the monster. Your muscles are achy and you're out of breath, but you smile a little. You know exactly how to get out of this mess.

You...

[ ] use your earth powers to propel yourself straight up and out of your trench. Get out as quickly as possible, and look badass while doing so.

[ ] use your earth powers to hit the thing on the other side of the wall. You probably won't scare it away, but you might stun or kill it.

[ ] use your earth powers to dig a hole into the cliff face behind you and tunnel away. Maybe you can dig down below the thing and grab the mask you dropped earlier.

[ ] use your earth powers to make cool things. Sure, there's a monster trying to kill you, but you can just reseal the wall every so often and experiment with your powers right now.

[ ] just climb up the wall behind you to the cliff face. No sense wasting energy on fancy earth shenanigans. Maybe extend the wall a little higher?

[ ] Write-in.

The idea we had was to have the Drill as a drill-sword, then get a pole or small tool, like a shovel or something, that could attach to the hilt making it a spear.

[x] use your earth powers to dig a hole into the cliff face behind you and hide there until the thing goes away. Maybe you can dig down below the thing and grab the mask you dropped earlier.

You ready your drill. Hopefully this won't take too much energy. It takes a minute, but you manage to fashion a hardened earthen pole to attach your spear to. You point the drillspear down, focus your power through it, and move it in short sharp circles. Each circle brings you a little bit lower. It seems that moving small amounts of earth slowly is easier and more energy-efficient than pulling sudden barriers from relatively far away. You're still exhausted, but the progress is steady.

You're a body-length or two below sea level, compacting the earth around you as you go, when the thumping changes place and tone. By purpose or chance, the new spot is below the water level. You could tunnel away to the beachhead or try to go directly under the beast to snatch the mask.

[ ] Go for the mask. You've come this far; why not risk it?

[ ] Tunnel away. The punching-lizard-monster just switched spots, but so long as you dig upward, you'll be fine.

[x] Go for the mask

It's a mysterious artifact that somebody doesn't want you to have. Was there any other choice? ... There was, you guess, but it clearly wasn't worthwhile.

You rest a minute or so- activating your power is exhausting- and use your hands to shore up the area being punched at. Then you pick up your drill. It looks like it can turn. Maybe it's mentally activated as well?

You think about the drill spinning, and a low, steady hum fills the cavern.

Once the drill is activated, you can dig much more quickly and efficiently. You've recovered most of your energy, but some rest would be nice. Unfortunately, rest takes time you don't have. A thin stream of water is pouring in, and, even with the drill, you barely snag the mask and make it out in time. By the end, you've been forced to breathe mouth to ceiling for longer than is comfortable.

You stumble out onto the beach, mask in hand, and sit for a while on the beachhead. The monster's unblinking red eyes slowly sink beneath the surface of the bay. It disappears into the mysterious depths from whence it came.

It's almost noon. The jungle beckons.

[ ] Enter the jungle. You don't have the energy to climb.

[ ] Go swimming.

[ ] Sit on your canister (facing the ocean, of course) and rest for a little while. Maybe you could take a look at that mask...

You sit on your canister, making sure to keep aware, and inspect the mask. A shore plant makes an improvised brush. You brush carefully so as not to risk structural damage. A few flakes of rust fall off.

It's been a long time since this mask was used, but, although the surface is scarred and pitted, probably by falling rocks, it hasn't taken any severe structural damage.

While you investigated, it seems like a boat drew close. You slide off the metal canister and use your spear to stand up. Hopefully you're holding it in a non-threatening manner.

Nokama glances sideways at the others, who seem simultaneously in awe and afraid. "I am a Turaga, one of six who lead the Koro. The Kini-Nui is a meeting place for all six Koro. The Matoran with me are attendants and guides. Five others like you, Toa, have been called here to this island." Nokama motions toward the boat with her trident, and two of the Matoran (Tamaru and Pelagia) immediately begin dragging it further ashore to what looks like a pre-built hiding spot.

Nokama's voice drops to a low whisper. "It was an act of desperation. There is one who watches us. In sending the signal, we gave our intention to fight away, but we had no other choice. Wild Rahi are growing more violent by the day, and travel between Koro is fraught with danger. We can explain more at Kini-Nui, where he cannot hear."

"Kini-Nui?"

"Kini-Nui is an ancient shrine located near the center of this island, Mata Nui. Other Turaga and Toa should be waiting for us there."

Hahli seems frustrated. "Turaga, we need to get going. At this rate, we'll be stuck in the jungle at night."

The journey is long, but not long enough for the Matoran to speak to you. Tamaru seems unhappy for some reason, Pelagia is either lost in thought or annoyed, and Hahli is definitely annoyed. Nokama refuses to say anything more, and so you make the trek in silence.

Eventually, you enter a valley. One side holds a dome-shaped shrine on a platform. From there, a bridge extends over a ravine to a low stone circle surrounded by irregular stone spires. The sun has almost set. In a few minutes, the valley will be plunged into darkness.

Figures are gathered around the circle. You can't really tell anything about them, but they seem to be sitting still. They are surrounded by lit torches.

The valley gives off a feeling of peace. There are no signs of Rahi, and the Matoran behind you have stopped whispering. This is an important place.

Nokama proceeds down the path to the valley floor. You follow her, and the Matoran follow you, at a safe distance.

The shrine is empty. Six statues of Toa surround it; none of them in your likeness. Vines curl over the ancient stone.

Night falls, and you can see the vast star field of Mata Nui's night sky. Nokama points out the constellations and stars: Gali's Hook, The Red Star, the Ash Bear.

Hahli gently steers her Turaga toward the bridge. Tamaru and Pelagia remain on your side of the chasm, and Hahli reluctantly turns back. You and Nokama cross to the stone circle c

Destiny is sort of funky from what I gather. If things don't work out as planned it seems to almost Plop other variables in. Yeah the Toa Metru weren't meant to be Toa at all, but Makuta fiddled with that on purpose thinking it mean he'd win by technicality. Destiny however warped things around, and changed them from great protectors into "Great Saviors". Rather than protecting the Matoran, they ultimately saved them and evacuated them once the great cataclysm hit.

A Turaga in an orange mask is speaking. "I am Turaga Vakama." Six Toa and two other Turaga are gathered around what Nokama tells you is an Amaja circle, used for storytelling.

"Listen, my friends, to the legend of the Bionicle.

"Long ago, in the time before time, the Great Spirit Mata Nui descended like a burning star from the heavens."

A smooth white stone is placed in the center of the sand.

"We were separate and without purpose, so the Great Spirit gave us the masks we need to survive and illuminated us with the Three Virtues: Unity, Duty, and Destiny. We embraced these gifts, and we named our home Mata Nui, after the Great Spirit, for without his guidance we would have been lost."

He places a piece of jagged black volcanic glass in the circle.

"Our happiness was not to last. Makuta, Mata Nui's shadow, grew jealous of the honors we gave the Great Spirit. He cast Mata Nui into a deep slumber, and darkness came over the land."

His hand moves, and the smooth white stone topples, replaced by the hunk of obsidian.

"The once-peaceful Rahi rampage, and travel between the Koro has become increasingly dangerous- Matoran who leave the villages alone disappear."

He throws a handful of black pebbles onto the sand.

"But there is still hope. An ancient prophecy tells of heroes destined to awaken Mata Nui. The Toa, six warriors wielding the strength of the elements, will appear in our time of need to protect the Matoran and vanquish Makuta. Tahu, Toa, of Fire. Gali, Toa of Water. Pohatu, Toa of Stone. Kopaka, Toa of Earth. Kopaka, Toa of Ice. Lewa, Toa of Air. I beg you to save us."

Nokama taps her trident on the stone floor. The sound breaks the spell of silence, and everyone present turns towards her.

"You mean seven."

Vakama stands.

"No. I mean six. Our memories, the prophecies, and our memories of other prophecies corroborate

"You will need as much strength as you can find if you are to face Makuta. Gather Kanohi Masks from around this island. Tahu, the Kanohi Hau you wear will shield you from harm. Lewa, your Miru will allow you to float on the winds. Kopaka, your-"

Kopaka stands. The Toa of Ice projects a cold presence. Vakama cuts off abruptly.

"Do not reveal my mask's ability. I have already discovered its power. If what you say is true, and Makuta watches us even now, loss of tactical advantage could be disastrous. We must also consider the presence of traitors."

Vakama smiles. "You think like a warrior. Good."

Kopaka sits down, but the air feels slightly colder.

>Six Toa and two other Turaga are gathered around what Nokama tells you is an Amaja circle
So the Mata team is complete, which mean we belong to another team.

Great! Now we 'just' have to find them.
And find out What went wrong.
And not forget about that Kanohi we found.
>>
>>32072989
Yup. Typo. My connection is sketchy.

>>32073297
Mostly. I'm a student, so weekdays are harder.
>>
>>32073314
wouldn't hurt to check why our mask is busted
>>
>>32073314
I like to imagine kopaka's lines in steve blum's voice

even if he already has a different voice in the canon
>>
>Traitors
Ouch, Kopaka. Guess we'll have to prove ourselves.
>>
>>32073390
Ours isn't busted. If you're talking about the one we just got, that's a different mask we found on the cliff.
>>
>>32073450
I swore that we didn't know how to make our initial mask work
>>
>>32073314
>all the puns about Kopaka being cold
>all the puns about breaking the ice.
>>
>>32073362
Yeah what the tits is going on here.

Starting to feel like a seventh wheel.
>>
>>32073463
You focused and it just kinda happened, although you didn't know it was your mask.
>>
>>32073526
ah okay

welp, i'm dumb
>>
>>32073515
It's fine. That's how Bionicle was at first; you're getting the authentic experience =)

>>32073512
Kopaka is actually making the air feel a bit colder to express his displeasure/for dramatic effect.
>>
>>32073515
Well, we're probably not part of their Toa Team ( I can't remember what theirs got named later).

We could be part of a different team that had a different destiny, or we could be an anomalous stand-alone Toa, like Takanuva seems to be. Either one raises interesting implications.
>>
>>32073423
Oh fuck
Me too
Get out of my brain
>>
>>32073565
Still, that wasn't the warmest welcome.
>>
>>32073698
Once you get to know him, he's pretty cool. He's the most chill Toa.

Oooh... Nice Burn Kopaka.

Vakama sits.

"Ask your questions."

Gali, Toa of Water, speaks up.

"There are six Koro, six Elements, six Toa, or so you thought, and six Wahi. Are there six Turaga?"

Vakama looks displeased. You get the feeling that this happens a lot.

"Matau, Nokama, Whenua, and myself are present. Onewa is seeing to pressing matters, and Nuju eschews Matoran (the language) for the tongue of the birds. Neither are particularly pleasant to be around."

Tahu stands.

"I will seek out the masks."

Vakama smiles. "Not a question, but I appreciate the sentiment."

Pohatu taps his leg. "Now? At night?"

Tahu's sword flares bright enough to temporarily blind all present. When their eyes adjust, he is gone. A trail of footprints and the cinders of leaves cuts straight out through the jungle.

His message is clear.

The Turaga adjourn to the edge of the larger circle. Apparently question time is over.

Kopaka stands to leave. Matau calls out to him.

"Hey! Look-see the Ihu over there?"

A vast mountain blots a slice of starry sky away.

"Run-climb it. There's a Kanohi up-top."

Kopaka stalks off wordlessly.

Pohatu is investigating the stones of Kini-Nui.

Onua stands. "I will go to Onu-Koro. Whenua told me there is much to be done. Another pair of hands will go a long way."

He seems to be waiting for someone to volunteer. Nobody does.

Lewa toys with his axe. "I'm going exploring. If I run into Le-Koro, fine; I wouldn't mind a party, but I just wanna see what's out there, Masks of Power and Destiny and Fate aside.

Gali has walked over the bridge and is staring at the sky from the shrine.

Who will you talk to? Do you want to talk to anyone at all?
>>
>>32074279
talk to Onua
>>
>>32074279
Let's talk to Onua or Whenua, since they share our element. Maybe try to get some more explanation for what's going on on this crazy island. And our new mask, of Course.
>>
>>32072563
Didn't the toa's appearance change once they went Nuva anyways?
>>
>>32074375
You're mixing up the Toa groups. Those guys are talking about the Toa Metru, who are now the Turaga of Mata nui.
>>
>>32074279
>Tell Whenua we'll come with him, but we have a few questions to ask before.
And then we'll be-earth-buddies.
>Ask the Turaga about the Kanohi we've found.
>>
>>32074279
Seems Kopaka Tahu and Onua are leaving... Not sure if we should chat with any of them..> Though I'd say Onua since we share an element. Maybe Gali or one of the Turaga as a close second. depends on who is on the up and up.

I hope the other toa are cool with us.
>>
>>32074279
Let's go with Onua, if we can.
>>
That's all for tonight. I've got school tomorrow.

Hmm. There might be a thread tomorrow starting 3 ish pacific but I could be wrong.
>>
>>32074790
Ah well. Might seriously want to get a Twitter so you can announce them a couple hours early.
>>
>>32074790
Remember to archive
>>
>>32074790
god dammnt, I have classes then

oh well
>>
Well, on the plus side, if we're part of a scattered Toa team, Captain Nui and Bells guy might be possible teammates.
>>
>>32074790
Lucky me, for being an art student, i just got buttloads of Paintings to do. and Master copies... and essays...
>>
Just archived it, since nobody did.
>>
>>32075422
