You stand there embracing your sister for what seems like a lifetime. It feels good to receive some semblance of compassion. You honestly can’t remember the last time anyone gave you the time of day to say something nice to you. Or even hug you. At least you’ve gotten through to her.

You break the embrace reluctantly, slowly, and turn to Satsuki. Her face has lost the slight amount of shock from earlier and has returned to its default regality. Even if it’s just a normal folding chair, you feel as if she’s a queen sitting upon her throne, looking down at her pawns. Cold. You need both at your side for any of your plans to succeed. They don’t have to completely believe in you, but they need to at least be complacent to your scheming, and the look in her eyes is one of defiance.

It seems your other sister isn’t as easy to sway as Ryuuko…

There is one more thing you can try to lighten her attitude towards you. She doesn’t remember you, but surely she remembers the doll? It isn’t necessarily completely related to you, so you doubt the Marionette fibers altered those memories. Only one way to find out.

You look over to Satsuki, playfully calling out, “Catch!” You toss the doll over to her lightly.
She looks in your direction again, and… draws her sword. And slice the doll in half. The two halves of the pig doll fall flat on the floor, with a light dusting of stuffing scattered around the remains.

Satsuki coolly turns towards your flabbergasted face, and replies, “It was a nice story, but I’m not buying it.” At the end of her response, she sheathes her swords while promptly standing from the chair. Ryuuko, also somewhat surprised and saddened, regains her composure at the prompting of her sister--a slight brush on Ryuuko’s shoulder with her hand.

“We’re leaving. Gamagoori, you will stand guard for the night.” Gamagoori stand at attention and bellows, “Of course, Lady Satsuki.” She turns her attention to her sister, the only one who hasn’t filed out of your ransacked room. “Come along, Ryuuko.”

Your arm hurts. The wound caused by the short one’s dagger still stings. Your throat burns. It still hasn’t recovered from the tall one’s constricting grip. Allover, your body moans with aches and pains, especially on your shoulder, still recovering from being pierced though by your own saber. You’ve had worse, physically. Much worse. You would rather have this discomfort ten times over than to have heard such callous words from your own sister.

Distraught, you lay back down in your hospital bed, and stare at the wall opposite of you. Before Ryuuko closes the door, she pops her head back in, and tries to reassure you. “Hinode, right?” You look over to her direction, and see her lazily scratching her head, poking between the door and its frame. “We’ll be back tomorrow, so don’t worry too much. Besides, you’re getting off easy compared to what ‘Lady’ Satsuki had me go through in Honnouji.” She grins at the last part, and closes the door behind her.

You smile a bit, somewhat reassured that you got through to at least one of them. It’s dusk outside, and the day is nearing its end.

You reach over to the nurse’s aide button attached to the observation equipment, and press it. You hear a nurse argue with the guard posted outside, before being let in. She looks at you in horror, and immediately rushes back outside with a gasp. After a minute, you hear more than one set of hurried footsteps, and a bit more arguing than the last time.

Eventually, the nurse returns with a doctor who is pushing a small cart in front of him. The conversation following isn’t of much interest. The doctor gives the standard, “You shouldn’t get stabbed. Losing blood can kill you, blah blah blah…”
The room slowly drowns out as they clean you up, check you over, and continue to advise either you or each other, sometimes flashing dirty looks at Gamagoori. Staring at the florescent light, everything becomes somewhat peaceful. A constant hum. It’s familiar in a way. You lose yourself in that light, staring even more intently into the orb hovering above you. It begins to multiply and darken right in front of you, dancing merrily. It’s yellow glow, hypnotic. The strands wrap around the bulb, and slowly descend into the doctor and nurse. They don’t seem to notice, and just go about their work. Merrily, merrily. You really do miss it, don’t you?

It isn’t that bad. Dreaming? It isn’t a dream. A dream is pleasant from what you’ve been told. It encompasses those things that are pleasurable: righteousness, excitement, happiness, success. A dream doesn’t need an end, and it usually doesn’t. It’s just interrupted by reality.

Thump, thump, thump. A steady heartbeat, their pulse isn’t even raised.

The doctor and nurse pair begin to fragment before your eyes. The fibers wring around their necks, circling them over and over. Other fibers split from the host fiber, and begin to intrude their body, forcibly. Every orifice is invaded, and taken over. The fiber sprouts like a weed, vining forth from those exposed areas, until they are completely covered. The fibers both emanate from their respective host, and spring forth from their bodies to rejoin in the space between them. Slowly, they are consumed by the glowing sphere, which picks them up, and swallows them whole, absorbing them completely. You can’t hear their heartbeat any longer.

The room spins. More doctors and nurses rush in, all wearing your company’s standard medical outfit. As they file in, they reach their assigned spot, and just stand there. Waiting. One after another. The steady beat of a human heart, and then nothing. Nothing but the buzzing hum of the sphere, ever growing in mass.

“Next.” Calls a woman’s voice. Ragyo Kiryuiin. You stand there by her side, watching in horror as those people giddily walk into that ancient room, and sacrifice their being, body and soul to that eldritch horror. Countless people are eaten alive. Then… there were no more people. Just you and your mother, standing in front of this beast.

“Next.” She calls with a smile.

You awake with a start, heart racing. The images of your nightmare flash before your eyes, your mind unable to flush them from your memory yet. You get up. Your feet touch the floor, and you feel the cold linoleum against your soles. You stand there a minute, wondering if you’re still dreaming. The light in your room is off, and it looks like minor repairs were made to the window while you slept. At least there isn’t a gaping hole facing outside anymore, and one of the windows was spared from harm. The moon is bright tonight, giving you plenty of light to check yourself over. Looking at the freshest wound on your body, you get an idea. You jab the dagger wound in your arm with your finger, wincing in pain. Yep, this is reality.

You walk over to the window, and open it fully. The fresh late autumn air does your body some good, as well as your psyche. You stare out the window into the ruined city below. Reconstruction continues, but it isn’t quick. It’s been six months, and large portions of Tokyo still lay in complete ruin, or lay in dormancy without enough people to occupy those building. 20% of the world’s population dying in one day can really have quite the effect. You chuckle to yourself a bit, nervously looking around before realizing you’re alone in the room.

The cool night’s breeze sweeps around you, leading you into another reverie.

20% of the world’s total population died in the span of one hour. Your mother and those privy to what actually happened that day call it ‘Planet Cocoon’. The rest of the world has taken to calling it ‘Earth’s Hemorrhage’. Why? A report from the IIS, broadcast around the world an hour or so after the ‘shower’. “We are no longer the blue and green marble of life in this vast empty space, the sum of known life in the galaxy. We are the bloody corpse of life, now sharing this space with an intrusive alien species. And they’ve made their mark by turning the ocean red with Earth’s own blood. Our blood. ”One company stood to take the complete blame for this event: REVOCS.

When the initial reports began to trickle in, there was unbridled outrage. Anyone who was an employee of REVOCS, complacent in your mother’s mad plan or not, was a target. The largest corporation in the world was soon sued by every government agency in the world. Show trials were immediately setup, and many were executed on the spot for just knowing the name Kiryuin. It was utter chaos. And you saved them all.

Your sister may be cold, your mother heartless, but neither can match your cunning in the business world. You were named the sole heir of Ragyo Kiryuin, and seated upon the throne of REVOCS as its new President. You met little resistance, as most saw it as a death sentence. Slowly you settled lawsuits, stemmed the flow of capital going out instead of coming in, and regained governmental trust with REVOCS. Slowly the company stopped its own bleeding, and settled, still atop the fashion world, but no longer absolute. Slowly those voices of opposition to you becoming CEO dwindled.

There are still problems. For your schemes to succeed, you need absolute control of the market again. You need people to wear REVOCS again. You’ll change that. The restrictions placed upon you by the UN will dissolve, and you will win the people’s trust again. The Kiryuin name will not falter and fade from this world, and it won’t be regarded with revile when you’re done. It will be praised again. There will be no dissenting voice, only words of praise. Project NAKED will make sure of that.

Your sisters must make sure of it. They have to be prepared for the trials ahead. REVOCS and Project NAKED will be the instrument to accomplish this.

“The Kiryuin blood isn’t something to be trifled with, is it Hououmaru?” You call out from the window. Her sleeves stretch up from the ground floor, and reach the window’s sill. She pulls herself up in one foul swoop, and lands beside in your hospital room, with a courteous bow.

“No, sir. It isn’t.”

You turn to face your assistant, and ask “So, Exactly how much time do we have? And how much time has been wasted in this hospital room?”

She rises from her bow, and looks up to your eyes, concentrating on them. “It’s currently mid-October. Small packets of reinforcements will begin to arrive in early November. The first major cropping force should arrive…” She looks at her clipboard, doing a few quick calculations. “Winter’s solstice.”

You sigh a bit, and look back out towards the moon. It emanates light, yet it is so cold. Its glow is a lie, just a pale golden imitation. It doesn’t deserve that golden florescence, stolen from the incandescent sun.

“I’ll have to stay here for another few days, Hououmaru. I trust you can handle things at REVOCS while I’m incapacitated?”

“Of course, sir.”

“Good. Good…” You are almost lost in thought again, staring at the moon, until Hououmaru interrupts you, rather meekly.

“S-sir. Are there any other orders for me?”

You turn towards your assistant, Rei Hououmaru. You smile at her, kindly. “Thank you, Rei.” You say this as tenderly as you can, earnestly meaning it. She’s done a lot for you. She’s very important. But not too important. She looks up at you with a genuine smile on her face.

Why is she smiling like that? Does she know? She can’t know that. Well, maybe she does. She WAS there after all. She’s always been there. Why didn’t she do anything USEFUL? Hmmmmmmmmm….

Your smile slowly grows across your face. Her smile begins to fade, slowly transitioning from a smile of fear to one of nervousness.

She knows. She knows you know. She knows you know SHE KNOWS! SHE KNOWS WE KNOW! Take care of her while you can.

Maleficence spreads across your face as your smile just keeps growing. You reach out to her, patting her on the shoulders, before moving your hands to her throat. You begin to choke her as hard as you can. Physically, you are stronger than her. And she deserves it. She knows it. We know it. Everyone in this room knows it.

"WE KNOW REI, OH DO WE KNOW YOU CONNIVING BITCH!" You whisper into her ear as you choke her. She is struggling to breath with a pitiful look on her face. She isn't even resisting.

You stare into her eyes. You can tell a lot from a person’s eyes. Their will and being is expressed through to others in many ways, but nothing is more telling than a being’s eyes. Her eyes are almost always shaded by a pair of sunglasses, even wearing them indoors. She didn’t before working for you, but she does now. Those eyes show pity; those eyes show fear; those eyes even show remorse. Does she wear those shades to cover those shameful eyes?
She is gasping less and less, barely moving at this point.

You stare less at her eyes, and instead at the reflection in them. It’s you. Your medium orange hair is a mess, going this way and that. 5 o’clock shadow covers your face. Your beaten and bruised face. That smile, made more wanton by your black teeth and your lunatic expression, gleams back at you. You stare at your eyes. Hazel, with a ring of red completely encircling it.

Just ignore that, it’s fine. We try, but you can’t. Your face convulses, and you wildly look around the room. At anything but her face. Eventually, you settle again on her face. You stare back into those glasses. And you see your mother’s face smiling at you. You blink again, the face disperses, but the eyes remain. Hazel, with a ring of red.

You drop Rei, and slowly back away from her. Shock breaking madness’s hold on you. She’s gasping for air, and slowly gets up. What you saw couldn’t be right. No, no, no. It can’t start this early. The sins of the son can’t be the sins of the mother?

I'm slightly confused on Hinode's motivation for trying to keep REVOCs afloat. Is this all about salvaging the family name? Is he trying to stick it to his mom by turning her legacy into one that benefits humanity? I'm just a little shaky on what his reasons are for wanting to be CEO in the first place.

It can’t be. This wasn’t part of the plan, and certainly wasn’t part of the deal. You look at Rei, and reaffirm that she is breathing before dashing into the attached bathroom. You nervously try to turn on the bathroom’s light, but fail to do so. The adrenaline pumping through you, combined with your anxiety simply won’t allow you enough bodily control to flick the switch. You grab blindly for the sink and find it, turning on the facet. Splashing some water in your face will help calm your nerves.

You close your eyes, splash water onto your face, and rub it into your skin. You just need to calm down and stay in control. You can do it. You have to do it. Too many lives depend on you maintaining control, and executing Project NAKED. REVOCS can go to hell once this is over, but until then it’s the most important tool you have in your arsenal. It’s what will keep your sisters alive, and restore the Kiryuin name which Ragyo so viciously soiled.

You open your eyes again, and notice a faint red light filling the room. An emergency light? You look around for its source, and are unable to determine it. You notice that it moves as you look around, maybe someone is toying with you? Looking above the sink where the mirror should be and you see—you see your eyes. The copper circling them is gone. In its stead is a thin ring of red, emitting a low glow of red.

In short, REVOCS is a means to an end. The importance implied so far is two fold: the Kiryuin name, and Hinode's sisters. As for the why, your reasoning is valid, but it is only a part of the whole. Ragyo isn't a positive name in Hinode's mind. He hates her more than Satsuki hates her, for some reasons revealed, others implied, and many yet to be revealed.

I fucking love you
>>
You breathe in, and breathe back out. You think about your sisters, you think about your family. You breathe in and back out again. You have two months. You’re ahead of schedule slightly. Rei didn’t die, and a sister you assumed dead, isn’t. You breathe in and back out, slowly this time. Ryuuko is alive, and doesn’t seem to hate you. Ryuuko is alive. That’s right.

You clutch the sides of the sink with your hands, and grip tightly. The usually white porcelain is stained red by your glare. She’s alive. Satsuki might hate you, but you can’t blame her. Even if she has accepted you as her brother, which you honestly doubt, what does that imply? That she had a brother that chose not to help her. You can explain all you want of mitigating circumstances, but in the end that is how she will see it. You remember how she used to be, caring and warm; sunny. Someone to protect. Now, you have to wonder, is she instead someone to guard against?

There has to be a reason she didn’t execute you on the spot back at HQ. Sentimentality holds you to some feeling of sisterly love, but that isn’t the case. Reason dictates, she wants to use you. What is she thinking?

You stare at your reflection in the mirror. And what will they think of this? No, they can’t know. It will jeopardize the whole operation. Or maybe Satsuki knew you were hiding something? They did take a blood sample, after all. If she’s ever paid attention to the family’s history, she would know as well… but how much did Ragyo trust her?

[] Hide it. She won’t understand. You don’t want to be stabbed more.
[] Let it be. Explain it when asked.

so, Hinode's got life fibers implanted in his head? because that would explain the schizophrenia and glowing eyes about as well as anything.

Then just do a write-in choice. Worse that happens is it doesn't get picked, best is it does.

You’ll explain it when the time comes. There’s no use in hiding it, Satsuki isn’t a dullard. She’ll notice when she comes again tomorrow. You sigh, rubbing your eyes. It’s late, and you need to get some sleep. There are a many explanations owed to your sisters. How much do they know? You lean your head back and stare into the ceiling, and begin to slowly roll you head from shoulder to shoulder, cracking your neck.

You exit the bathroom, and see Rei waiting in wait, patiently standing by the bathroom door.

You turn to her, and apologetically begin. “Rei, I’m sorry. We—I didn’t mean what I said. If it weren’t for you, I’d still be stuck there, rotting away.”

“Sir, there is no need to apologize.” She begins. Her tone is strictly business in demeanor as usual, but you notice a slight smile on her face. “I serve the head of the Kiryuin household, and whatever action he or she deems necessary, I will follow to a T… But, it is nice to get an apology, even if this isn’t the first time it’s happened.”

There is a moment of awkward silence between the two of you, until Rei break it with a question.

“Sir, may I ask something?”

“Shoot.”

“Why didn’t you kill me after I set you free? I failed. Why didn’t you just--”

“Rei, you might have life-fibers infused into you, but you are still human; even if you are only partially human. Besides, I told you already. I can’t do this alone. For Project NAKED to succeed, I need everyone behind me, and surely having an inside agent wouldn’t hurt?”

“But, how can you—“

“You said it yourself, your loyalty lies with the head of the Kiryuin household. And that would be me. If you didn’t betray my mother and her reckless, selfish plans, I sincerely doubt you will betray me.” You smile reassuringly at Rei, trying to calm her nerves. She bows again, and returns your smile.

“Your trust is well placed, sir. I won’t fail the Kiryuin name again.”
>>
>>32076411

“Good. I’m going to stay here another three or so days and recuperate. I advise you stay clear, as your presence surely won’t be appreciated. That is all, Rei.”

She bows, and exits through the window, running off into the ruined city lit only by the moon, and its imitation gold glow. Seems that it worked. She’s integral to your plans, and she needs to not only believe in you, but the Kiryuin blood as a whole. You lay back down on the bed, and close your eyes, falling asleep quickly.

You dream of a world lit only by the fire of the sun, where the moon holds no sway over this bloodied earth. A world where man is king, not only of his domain, but the domain of all. And the kind of kings? Kiryuin. Three figures sit above all else. When the arbiter becomes ruler, all will be right. As it was; as it should be; as it will be.

And.. that is it for the night. Hope you enjoyed it!

As always, I'll stick around a bit to answer questions, or hear criticism.

Also, I'm thinking of moving the quest to Fri or Sat night instead of Sun night. I know a lot of people have difficulty with the currently slot, and I'm thinking the other two nights might be better suited.

Is he insane? By the standard of others, yes. By his own standard, yes. He partially recognizes it.

>>32076308
I always take any posts into consideration. If you're suggestion is good enough, and has enough support, I'll consider doing it.

>>32075947
Possibly. The show tends to use 'fibers' a little to lightly, don't you think? Of all the shit, it's always fibers, even though other explanations can be used.

Ragyo is mentioned plenty, but what about Nui? I would imagine that Hinote must have had to encounter her given her position of High Couture or whatever.

It's clear that Hinote's affection for his sisters has a calming/stabilizing effect on him. If he grows closer to them, does this open/close certain "routes"?
>>
>>32076814
It's mentioned that some of the fiber holes in our head were signed with hearts, most likely meaning Nui. Don't think she is high on our list of people to bring into the family.
>>
>>32076591
I feel like i missed something. was that last bit a reference?
>>
>>32076845
I seem to recall all of those fibers were sown in by Ragyo. The hearts were just added in on some of her initials when she did it at times
>>
>>32076814
I think, Hinode had a flashback involving her in the first thread. Mentioned teaching her how to smile. I think he might remember her fondly.
>>
>>32076695
I also pick the opening picture pretty carefully as well for these threads.

>>32076814
Nui brings a smile to Hinode's face.

I'm avoiding routes as much as I can. But, you can't please everyone with each choice: hard decisions need to be made sometimes.

Alright, it's 2 in the morning, and I've got work during the week. I'm going to try and make the thread on Friday or Saturday night this week.
