For House & Dominion: Home Front Quest

http://houseanddominion.wikia.com/wiki/HouseAndDominion_Wiki
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=House%20and%20Dominion

You are Sonia Reynard, Attack Wing Leader and Knight of the House of Jerik-Dremine! When you were on the front lines you directly command the Third Attack Wing, the newer Fifth Attack Wing lead by Daska Rna also fell under your leadership.

It's been more than a month since you returned home from the war where you spent 6 months fighting the Neeran Invasion. Your long deserved vacation has been a busy one, exploring your property on Dreminth, seeing family for the first time in ages and more recently fending off kidnappers. While the attempt to kidnap you failed those involved managed to make off with your sister and several other students. With the ransom paid all five have been released. Bekka was in the worst shape after a number of escape attempts but even she is fixed up after a day in hospital.

Of the 32 million spent on the ransome, 13 million has been recovered with another 3 million given to your more distant allies. Private investigators and a small team of your people are working to recover a shipment of 8 million seemingly buried deep beneath the city, while police bomb squads are attempting to recover remains of another 2 million. While the rest of the cash has been lost and will likely not see it again, a good portion of what you did get back is being split up between those that helped you and your family in their time of need.

With the crisis resolved your parents have begun preparations to move to a more secure building. You've also helped them hire some bodyguards until such time as your company can establish it's security branch.
Your sister however is being difficult. She's determined to try and stay at her old school by any means necessary.

1.18 MB

For her to stay would mean upgrading the power infrastructure in the area enough that the security systems could be upgraded.

At the time with your sister's prodding you'd agreed to try to convince Mom and Dad about the idea but with some more time to think about it you're once again feeling indecisive.
The votes evened out by the time I closed the survey.

Since then it seems that Bekka, not realising that you may be having second thoughts, went ahead and mentioned it to mom.

"I want snipers at altitude linked into out network. Park an aerocar just about the highest point with the hatch open, we'll feed you targeting data."

"We'll only have a 5km range using the sniper rifles sir." Warns one of your marksmen. "You may want to consider bringing in a vehicle that can mount a 90mm, like one of the shuttles. We could bring down fire anywhere within the operations area."

Just the sort of attention you don't want.

"If necessary you can just move the car. We can have a shuttle on stand by if we really need it but make sure- hang on I have another call coming in."

You change channels to the civilian band. "Reynard, go ahead."

"Sonia, it's your mother. Where are you and what have you been telling Bekka?!"

Oh jeez.

>What say?
>>
>>32082648
Probably not what she's been telling you I've said
>>
>>32082648
"Oh you know, stuff that eh... Stuff. Look, she and I had a talk and she seemed to wish to remain at her old school despite what happened. Just tell her no and send her on her way to the new more secure school."

Safety over social comfort I say.
>>
>>32082648
"I'm kinda busy with... stuff. Could we talk about this when I'm back home? Please?"
>>
>>32082648
"I'm returning a favor, I'll call you back."

If she says anything than 'ok', hang up and mute.

Going a bit further than my suggestion for snipers, since it seems mostly defunct...

Could we position sensors along likely routes of movement like the river and areas that might allow movement between areas that might be a bit more cliff-like?

We don't need or trust sniper teams to take this thing out, but if we can't use them effectively for eyes and ears, we'll need to resort to sensors or something that says 'movement, check me out!'
>>
"Oh you know, stuff that eh... Stuff. Probably not what she's been telling you I've said."

"Oh really? Well let me be sure then. She said you would pay to have security increased at her school that way it wouldn't be necessary to transfer. And more importantly that you would be saying something to change our minds about it."

"Mom, I'm kinda busy with... stuff. Could we talk about this when I'm back home? Please?"
"Are you being shot at?"
"No."
"In danger of being shot at?"
"No, but-"
"Then you can stay on the line for a minute."

"Look, she and I had a talk and she seemed to wish to remain at her old school despite what happened. Just tell her no and send her on her way to the new more secure school."

"Sonia when you tell your sister something she believes you. It's going to take a month to convince her otherwise now, even if it is the right thing to do at the moment."

The right thing to do or the most convenient thing to do? You idly wonder. "I'll talk to you later mom."
Maybe you can still salvage things regarding Bekka and school choices.

Rolled 24

You and several of your people are currently on an expedition to hunt down an escaped Warrel. The invasive species has been released by the Neeran on planets in the Pandora cluster to terrorize the population, destroy livestock and harm agriculture. As they mature they develop ablative armored plates beneath their already tough hide making it necessary to use splinter ammo to ensure a quick kill. Their jaws can crush marine armor or break a civilian in half.

Recent analysis has shown that they are capable of Parthenogenesis, similar to some sharks, when no other mates can be found. There are also signs that their genome has been tampered with by the Neeran to greatly increase their rate of reproduction.

Apparently a noble returned from the Pandora cluster with a captured Warrel, probably with intentions to sell it to a collector for an outrageous price. The noble responsible is now dead and the creature gone, having broken free of its restraints and escaped the residence. The idiot has paid the price for his mistake but the rest of the family is worried they'll be charged with treason as well should word get out. You, Alex and Mike have been offered a bounty of twelve million to find it and kill it before the authorities learn of this.

Arthur has been called in since he has experience with hunting them.

>We should probably have someone make sure there aren't cave systems or something here.
The planetary archives for the region are old and out of date. You'll need to do a sonar pulse for more accurate data.

Mike speaks up with a suggestion. "We picked up some equipment for the PI's to do sonar scans beneath the city. If we landed in a few places they should be able to do the same job here."

Only 24% of the old records are in a condition that could be considered useful. It's enough that you know some caves and tunnels do exist. A few areas show extensive underground cave networks and while there are signs of more the scans are having trouble with certain layers of sediment.

"Most are natural formations but some of these are man made. Off to the South West there are a few left over tunnels from exploratory mining operations, most of the large caves in that area are natural. Closer to where we are and the center there are smaller natural cave formations and two of what look like bunker complexes."

"Really?"

When Arthur arrives he looks over the data as well. "You know, those bunkers might be from back in the Expeditionary Wars. The early Terran colonists put up resistance when House Dremine first annexed the plant. I guess they thought if they held out long enough one of the fleets might bail them out."

After your moment of doom and gloom you return to the group and ask Arthur some questions. How to find them and how far it could have gone in the time given. With the info from Alex he estimates it could have made it anywhere in the target zone by now it it was especially determined.

"They're fast once they get rolling, and while they can turn and snap at you rather quick it takes time for them to accelerate and slow down when running. Given the terrain and number of places to hide I doubt it would be much farther than the second bunker by now."

>Just begin searching along the river cause plenty of prey should be using it and it will need to feed a lot of it's going to begin spawning.

"Good point, it's got to eat, and they can eat a lot. Thermal might help us out if we can keep an eye out for predators taking down a large number of animals. There are Deer around here right?"

Alex puts down his com. "Yes, there are deer."

"Could we get a hunting dog to track that thing down?"
Everyone stops and looks at you as though your camo had just switched disguises.
"What?"

Alex and Arthur, both hailing from noble families, look at each other.
"Does anyone on Dreminth have Horses?"
"Someone must, but I know we largely visited Loran for that sort of thing."

"Guys I said dogs, not horses."

"I'll call my brother."
"I'll call my cousin."

"Guys?"
"Fox hunts." Alex tells you. "Anyone who has horses will be familiar with them and would therefore know where to find hunting dogs."

Alex manages to get hold of a relative and an hour later heads off to a nearby landing field to pick up the dog. Arthur's own contacts report it would take 3 hours so he gives up on that and suggests heading out as soon as possible.

"If we form a perimeter out on the other side of the bunkers and sweep back towards the start point it should give us a good chance of finding it. Just keep most of the cars at altitude using thermal and EM."

Mike offers to sweep the bunkers since they'll be less chaotic than the interiors of natural caves.

"Alex when you get back see if you can pick up a trail on your end. Maybe we'll get lucky."

"So for those Fox hunts, isn't that dangerous letting a fox into the wild?" you ask once airborne.
"They have tracking implants put in them before they're released."
"Isn't that cheating?"
"They're only used if anything goes wrong since the animals are worth quite a bit of money. If it's smart enough to escape the dogs all the more reason for someone catch it alive later. Makes the future hunts more difficult and interesting."

I'd favor to escalate things slowly, so not right now.

Our sonar, stealth system, and grappling hook are probably more useful in the cave systems. Regular medium power armor should be well suited to the bunker complexes.

Once Alex has arrived he sets out with a few others and the dogs. The family you're helping has dropped off a sample to provide a comparison and eventually the dogs are able to pick up a trail.

"We're heading south. It looks like we'll eventually reach the river." Alex promises to keep you updated but warns that progress could be slow. The IFV will be tailing them which can be used for some of the dogs to rest in while others resume tracking. The area covered is expected to be larger than they're used to.

The first cave is deceptively easy to survey. A quick look around the upper levels of the case system while the camera drone floats around takes twenty five minutes.

The next cave interior is more difficult taking six minutes longer than the previous, mostly because of extended forks branching off.

Attempting to pick up the pace it's nearly 33 minutes to finish the third.

By the time you reach the surface after the last cave tour Mike has explored half of the closer bunker complex.

"There are old vehicle bays here large enough for starfighters, a few Tanks, any number of things."
"How has the old equipment held up?"
"Rusted down to almost nothing. If there was any useable trit it must have been scavenged when the site was abandoned. No power and the concrete is compromised in a few places. Still I think it could survive a nuke going off outside of 2km."

"Watch out for traps and try not to get eaten." You reply.

Alex is making slow progress with the dogs, but it is progress.

Clearing the foliage around the entrance of each cave is a little time consuming, as is putting up fluorescent warning markers, but once the claymore mines are placed you'd say it's worth the effort.

Mike has some trouble with the remainder of the bunker. Parts of the habitat wing have collapsed contrary to his previous estimates about how sturdy the site was.
"I'm moving on to the next bunker."

The dogs seem to be having trouble maintaining the trail. Apparently they're a bit too used to hunting for fox.

"I think it crossed the river."

It takes you an hour to search the cave system closer to the residential area. It could have taken much longer but the drone is really paying off.

When you emerge the Marines from Mike's team report that some of the wildlife in the area near Alex's team is acting a bit different from the rest of the region. Their thermal readings from the air show things to be a bit more skittish. It's possible they can hear the dogs barking as they search.

Alex's team did find a deer carcass along their path, then a second one forty minutes later.
"How old are they?"
"The second one is five or six hours old."

"About when we started looking then."

"Do you want us to converge on the area or hold our positions?" Asks Arthur. "If we can get some better coverage of the region from the air perhaps we can see it when it takes down an animal."

It also covers the majority of both river banks, and lets us more-or-less pivot our mobile assets into the fixed sensors we set up.

The shuttle takes up position above the bend in the river. You meet up with Mike and Alex at the IFV which is now approaching the river again.

>>32092070
You contact the other cars and tell them to begin a slow but steady advance in your direction.

"Why don't you have your car up helping the shuttle look for it?" Asks Mike in between fixing suit components.

"The shuttle has better ground attack sensors than the aerocars and marines do. They don't need me getting in the way."

"If you say so. You know I think these bunkers are actually predate the annexation of the planet? They may have been built in the early terraforming stages."

"Mike there's barely any Redwood in the region."
"I don't know about that but the construction is closer to a thousand years old than to 700."
"That and half the trees here are a poor choice for Dreminth." Adds Alex. "Dro'all introduced plants have nearly overwhelmed the smaller ones."
"This is all very entertaining guys, but let's find this monster and kill it before beginning an archaeological expedition."

You aren't alone out here it seems. The IR sensors spot a lone hunter cresting one of the ridge lines, spotting the shuttle then making a run for it.
"Poacher?"
"Most likely."

"We have a possible contact."

"Where?"
The shuttle crew uploads the data on the contact point then sends you their IR records.

Something's been killed nearby just before the shuttle swept the area. The heat signature was beginning to fade out and it was being dragged but the shape was indistinct. If you didn't know better you might think it was a bear but they were never introduced to the planet.

The camera drone manages to perform a survey of the cave system and return. It's nearly bitten while passing through an intersection but still manages to return mostly intact.

It seems the Warrel is currently at an intersection on the left from the main entrance.

"Take a Left, a right then another left and it should be straight ahead." You tell the others while marking it on your HUD. The first passage off to the left is a bit tight though.

"We don't have any Arthur, we tought we'd be fighting it in a Forest."
"That's unfortunate."

Just as well. The back blast would have been a problem too once the shockwave reflected off the enclosed walls.

"I'll remain on point and use my camo to get close. Once I've secure the approach everyone gets in behind me and we'll try to take up positions farther down the tunnel away from it. With luck we can fill it full of long range fire before it can get close. Mike, I want you behind that corner with your shotgun in case that plan doesn't work out."

"Right." He unchambers his shotgun then loads a few rounds of a different type
"Mono tipped flechettes."

Moving up your sonar and other sensors detect movement in the tunnels. The drone must have disturbed it.
Still, you manage to get your people into position.

"Camera drone, go!" You hurl the baseball sized device around the corner. It soon corrects for the strength of the throw and heads down the passege to harass the Warrel.

The digging noise stops.
"That seems to be effecti-"
The drone signal cuts out accompanied by a loud crunch noise on the sonar.

"Motherfucker broke my drone. Stun grenades!"

The Marines toss you a pair of the spherical devises which mike sets for you. Activating your camo you head around the corner and toss them down the passage.

The dull thuds from them firing off eho through the caves followed by what should be the noice of the beast collapsing... nope. Instead a fearsome roar issues from the tunnel.

"Arthur, when they roar does that mean we've pissed them off?"
"It means you've pissed them off, yes."
"Oh good. INCOMING!"

The beast charges down the corridor, coming into view of the Marines who each open fire. Once it gets clear of the corner you and Mike open up as well, though it's difficult to tell if you were responsible for any of the more serious damage. The Marines rounds had already torn into it's front by that point and the body slides to a halt.

Everyone fires until they've emptied their magazines, or in your case when the overheat warning becomes a problem. The remains are on fire as a result of your laser, blood splattered everywhere from the bullet hits.

Pulling out your HF blade you first cut the remains of it's head off to be sure there's no possible way it's alive then you cut it's body open. Despite the exterior being on fire in patches and much of it's front having been blown open the interior still has plenty of squishy bloody guts inside now spilling everywhere.
And now you're having flash backs to your first real HF-blade massacre on the Forbearance with blood scattered everywhere in that control room. Most other times since you've been too busy to take it in or you were setting things on fire with the fusion gun.

"Can anyone tell me if this thing looks pregnant?"

The consensus seems to be no. It wasn't quite full grown yet.
"Good."
You scalp part of it with your blade to take as proof, then give the order to burn it.
"Nothing left, not even the blood."

The shuttle puts down and those aboard hand over some incendiaries and other flammables which soon fill the caves with smoke. The remains of the deer that were killed are also destroyed as are any signs that it was trying to dig a way out.

"I'm glad no one was hurt, I just wish the drone wasn't destroyed."

"You can buy a new one with the reward money." Points out Mike.

"We've taken care of your problem." Replies Alex. You hand over the case with the small portion of remains. Evidently the smell from its death is still clinging to it as the woman gags and puts the lid back on before handing it back.
"Thank you, I certainly believe you now. As agreed upon we'll transfer 12 million to an account of your choice for doing us this favor."

Proceeding into the bunker you're faced with a long corridor large and wide enough to drive vehicles down. Not starfighters like the other base, but definitely ground vehicles like IFV's and some classes of tanks. The floor is made of sturdy enough material to survive tracks.

The first corridor on the left seems to have been built with plans for future development. Other than a few small storage spaces nearby there isn't much here. Off into the main complex your people begin to detect radiation levels slightly above background output. Bekka glances around a corner then retreats, calling you to take a look.
A nuclear warhead has been cracked open and the fuel removed.

"It's safe, but watch your step." Warns one of the specialists.

After a few more minutes exploring the air area it comes up safe, or lacking any major traps and explosives. There are a pair of sentry guns in the bunker but both have been out of power for a long time. It looks like the people here removed the fissile material from a few warheads and used it in a nuclear reactor to keep the power on.

"It should be safe to look around now sir, but try to remain in teams." You and Bekka are warned.

There are a number of sealed and it looks like still operational weapons classed as EFP Pulse Rifles. One of them is a five barrel gatling design that can hook into a backpack mounted magazine.
"Nothing too unusual."

"Sir, the rounds for these weapons are quite unusual."
"How so?"
"These are all smart rounds."
"Guided?"
"Barely, but they're explosive. Fusing is set when fired so that they detonate near their target. Most create an explosively formed penetrator, a few of them are fragmentation. It's in an odd calibur so finding ammo for them would be difficult."

"Sonia we found something cool!" Shouts Bekka.

In another of the rooms are flight packs with thick meter long wings sticking out to either side. Quite sturdy and expensive looking they could probably match the performance of an aerocar for a short distance.
"What sort of power plant does it have?"

"Looks like they tried to scale down a starfighter reactor to half it's size sir. These might be a progenitor to Terran jump jet suits. It's not power armor by any stretch, but with some tweaking it could carry one. Without anything heavy aboard somebody could stay aloft most of a day."

As the search continues the team finds the hull of a repulsor tank, which will need help to be moved, and a field fabrication unit. The unit itself could probably be restored though it's well out of date. On it are production specs for one of the pieces of equipment you found.

"Right, it's being held by the House to be awarded to a Knight some time in the future. Provided they don't give them land out in South Reach instead."

"So does that mean we're stealing all this stuff from the House right now?"

>What say?

At first I thought we got to choose then I took another look at the post, ah well.

What makes the EFP weapons different from regular pulse weapons? Could the ammo be reversed engineered so we could produce them with the caliber of... oh I don't know, 20mm?

The reactor certainly needs to be looked over. Perhaps we could make some improvements on it?

Harakoni warhawks!

Can it be fitted on Marine armor or Power Cell armor?

>What makes the EFP weapons different from regular pulse weapons?
The "Pulse" in the case of these weapons is the Explosively Formed Penetrator their rounds create.

Normal pulse pistols (and phase rifles when modified) fire a phased energy beam or a short phased energy pulse like starship weapons. Most rifles fire in beam mode as it gives them a longer range.

>Could the ammo be reversed engineered so we could produce them with the caliber of... oh I don't know, 20mm?
Yes, though they would not be compatible with your current repulsor rifle. The rounds and rifle would need to be modified, though this feature could be added to future versions of the weapon.

>The reactor certainly needs to be looked over. Perhaps we could make some improvements on it?
For the flight pack certainly. If you donated one of them to R&D it could potentially assist the repulsor armor development process. Unfortunately you only have 1 working flight pack atm.

You turn to Bekka.
"Stealing is such a harsh word, I prefer salvaging. That is if we ever were here in the first place, heck we don't even know this place exists! Besides, it's not like the House wont benefit from this with a bit of work."

Bekka looks at you and slowly shakes her head. "What would Mom say if she could see you now? Like if I just recorded this conversation with the helmet mission recorder?"

Uh... did she just. Wait, she still wants you to talk to mom about staying at her old school!

Unrelated to Bekka. I think it would be cool if we could fit the jump pack to Power Cell armor. Highly mobile heavy infantry th- I wonder if the reactor in it could be a substitute for cells in the Power Cell armor? We could go for crisis suit. I mean, without the jets its pretty big meaning it is going to be best a flight harness/recharger pack.

These things might be pretty handy when boarding Neeran ships, as the crew spaces will have to be larger to accommodate them.

Your words take effect for a moment but it passes more quickly than you would have liked. Soon her demeanor changes to the familiar short tempered self you prevented from getting into fights for so long when you were younger.

"I wouldn't need to if you put in those upgrades like you told me you were going to! What happened to that?"
"I changed my mind."
"Because Mom and Dad told you to. Tell me I'm wrong!"

The more things change the more they stay the same. Without your armor and training it's possible Bekka could actually be dangerous to you now, but since you have both all she could do at this moment is wail away uselessly.

Anyone else up for offering full scholarships to the other three?

If you decide to do so will you tell Bekka or keep quiet?

>>32105845
>Can we see if the bunker has any hidden compartments or other goodies stashed away?
It does not. Further excavation runs the risk of a collapse of some sections.

"Sir, do you want us to remove the old nuclear reactor that's on site? It could pose a hazard to ground water in the region."
>>
>>32106720
I wouldn't mind giving them full scholarships but I think we should keep the whole thing under wraps to see what Bekka can come up with.

Then after the whole thing we can have our "Verdict" which will be that she is going to a new school....and that her partners in crime will be joining her.

>Remove Reactor
I would say yes as it seems like a hazard that is just waiting to be unleashed.
>>
>>32106720
If we are funding them we should make it clear that we expect them to excel and work hard on both training and studies and not just lollygag around the new luxury school. When they begin their rise in the Navy we'll have grateful prodigies to follow in our footsteps. Kinda like a long term investment in political favors.

As for the reactor, why bother? It's been sitting there for the last like... thousand years so it can very well remain there until it becomes dust. Just call in an anonymously and have a proper hazmat team deal with it and the cost and the radiation.

That's not a half bad idea. If all of the kids have the will to succeed this would just give them a leg up. It's also more useful to the parents than any apology we could give them. If we do go this way we should still upgrade the old school with some basic security too.

>EPF ammo
I can draw something up for the 20mm version of this. I've actually seen a lot of cartridge cutaway pictures in my research. Mostly aircraft and tank cannon rounds, but the principles are the same if you scale them down.

>Flight packs
>Repulsor skates
GOTTA GO FAST

That gives me an idea. Rework the wings to run off of power armour powerplants. Reduce the wings in size and add detachable sections. Full wings are used for distance flight, short wings are used to stabilize short jumps in combination with the suit repulsors.

>mfw we rig this to recon armour with full holo camo and sound dampening

We really need to get our company r&d going. Don't we have a 100 banked somewhere? We should try to get a Nikola Tesla mad scientist type to run it. We're going to need one to decifer all of the neeran stuff anyhow.

>Remove reactor

>>

I really want to keep that 100 around for something like 'roll 1d100 to not die from teleporter shock' or when we use the longevity treatment.

This will not fit. Most of the available space in the upper part of the room is filled with your wrecked Needle fighter.

>>32107126
>Are there any other bunkers in the area?
The other one that Mike searched. It's been stripped and everything else inside has been reduced to piles of rust.

Returning home quickly to avoid any more radiation exposure you make sure both of you have gone through decontamination then head for the apartment.

"I can't find the white plates!" Shouts Dad when you walk in.
"They're already packed."
"I thought we were packing the blue ones and keeping a few white ones here until we'd moved?"
"No it was the other way around."
"Oh... hang on let me unpack a few boxes. Also the girls are back."

And it begins. Mom lays down the law, that while supporting the old school is all well and good she needs the levels of education and prep work that only these higher end schools can provide to do well among the nobility in the future. Also that it would cost a fortune to upgrade the school enough for her to stay, money that could be better used any number of other ways.

Bekka's return argument that she's been thinking up is that she is already being tutored and undergoing training on the weekends from the PDF officer. As she's catching up to her needed levels of general education the tutoring can change over to training with the sense and sensibility of the upper class.
"It also means you don't have to worry as much about a high profile incident when something inevitably happens and I knock out a noble from the other school."

"I thought you hadn't been getting into fights at school in awhile?"
"That's because they tried to jump us off the property remember? We still kicked their asses."

>I hope this letter gets forwarded to you at the front. Things have been going well here. I'm catching up on a lot of things in school and learning plenty of neat things from the military trainers when they can spare time. My tutor doesn't think I'm quite ready for the academy but what does he know? He's probably worried I'd kick everyone's asses.
I've been staying out of trouble like you asked me. Mostly. We did get in a fight with some kids that tried to jump us outside the school grounds but that was not our fault and we never told anyone.
>Mom is doing her "I did the same things at your age," BS. Yeah right.

"This is just getting deeper and deeper."
You decide to shut up after this and let the two of them argue some more until finally mom pulls the final trump card.

"Rebekka that is it! I didn't want to have to do this but you are still a minor which means you have to go to school where your father and I say so."

It's not like we can argue with that. They have the final say when it comes to Bekka's school. I guess we could force the issue by simply refusing to pay for any other school but that would result in an incredibly awkward situation with our parents. So I'd like to avoid that.

Also, perhaps we should give our parents a million or two to do with as they please? The way Sonia pays for a lot of things now would be pretty weird for them.

>Also, perhaps we should give our parents a million or two to do with as they please?
You've been sending them some money, I don't precisely know how much off the top of my head.

Let's sort some of Sonia's personal finances.
You had 90 million before the kidnapping which then dropped you down to 58m.

Since then 13 million of the original 32 was recovered. There was some disagreement about how much of the money should be split between everyone helping out with the search efforts. Some wanted to split all of the remainder, others wanted to keep a few million back.

Opinions?
>>
>>32108711
Well the Marines that helped out certainly deserves a bonus. How about a years wages for them right now and something similar for the knights and pilots involved? That should still leave us with a good amount of money while bringing smiles to the faces of those that helped out.
>>
>>32108845
I'm going to be generous and count it as a Knight's wages.
When including the Marines and the other personnel helping, at 50k each that's 4 million.

Add 25% to that so we're at 5 million. Throw 1 million at House intel for their support, especially when it came to keeping our parents safe.

Wall safe for plasma pistol, stun grenades (Sonia's room)
Panic room with escape hatch/tunnel into bunker (from Sonia's room)
Door with tritanium inserts/ lockdown option (Sonia's room)

Sentry guns outside of a panic room
Hidden sentry guns covering upper hallways & main room
*Hidden sentry guns covering other hallways
Half sphere stun grenade traps
Observation drones (Lodge exterior)
Shield generator - Secret (1.7 million bunker expansion and installation)

*= least popular item to still make it in

Most requested "other": A room for the guards attached to the lodge and/or bunker.

And I had for forgotten to add the additional 40 crew from the Bittenfeld before that bringing the total of people that helped out out from 80 up to 120. When adding the 25% increase to everyone's pay the total came to 7.5 million.

Then again the crew members didn't do all that much, just followed the one ferry to the edges of House Erid space and hold them up.

It wouldn't do to have missed every ball and major social gathering since the return of the fleet. You fail to see Daska's parents but do manage to startle Daska herself who had expected you to continue skipping out given what's been going on with your family.
It seems to be a good opportunity to meet up with well placed nobles within the House and, while you have to cut your time short at least you've made an appearance.

While the crew of the Devourer are recalled and checked in you spend a few days doing some actual relaxing without the need to fire your sidearm. You do get some kayaking in with Linda once you're able to get hold of her. The streams on your property are generally too small, rocky or swift to do any sort of boating but the property of a noble a few hundred km away is a popular spot.
Linda is still working up the courage to talk to her parents and will need up with you in time for the next deployment to the front lines.

Bekka still considers it partly your fault for not backing her up, though you suspect she's also angry at herself. She does not see you off when the Devourer departs.

The dings and pits in the hull of your mighty battlecruiser have been fully repaired. Any lingering after effects of the engine damage you took in Shallan Space have likewise been eliminated.

She'll get back to you on that after the next round of sweeps by the guild have been completed. They're still finishing up sections they couldn't safely get to before as a result of the pirates.

Your 21 days in transit as usual are busy ones, spent training, sparing, practicing flight maneuvers and reading up on reports. Your papers on Neeran infiltration are not the only ones out there and the security situation is one that people are increasingly beginning to take seriously. The South Reach Mercenaries are in the worst position to upgrade against these threats, lacking the income stream the Mercs in the PCCG can get thanks to trade and preferential employment.

The Mercs working for RSS are affiliated with the main guild in the Pandora cluster and they're choosing to turn away some potential recruits due to security concerns your company has.

There is some good news, Valeri has arrived in South Reach aboard your Excalibur. He's managed to get hold of a Republic suit of Recon armor, or the closest equivalent.

"What is that old saying Sir? Jumping through hoops?"

"I think the hoops were supposed to be on fire."
"The important thing is that I have the armor. It is functional and does have some silent movement systems. I expect it will take considerable calibration to approach your armor in quality sir."

Well you're here and no sign of the main RSS fleet. London informs you that a smaller salvage operation is in progress under contract to another House. The faux noble without a House is helping them as a free escort, working for food and fuel. The kid's simulator ratings still look decidedly average.

Really the most important part of Valeri's suit is the microfusion reactor. The rest of it is a framework that we can modify and upgrade.

Do we still have that request in with Logistics for the two sets of recon armour? We can use them later if they turn out to be better. And we can always make some more men at arms if we have a spare suit.

>We must inform our bodyguard of kidnapping attempt
He was informed shortly after your sister was kidnapped. Unsurprisingly he's not amused it would happen while he's on the other side of the universe. Even with an Excalibur class it would have taken weeks to get there.

You head over to the station to see Mr London. There still seems to be plenty of traffic, though few of the ships present are owned by RSS.

"Where is the fleet?" You ask without preamble. "Also hello it's good to see you again."

London smirks at the last bit then turns serious.
"We've had no communications with the fleet since they departed, but Nikolov is no fool to the dangers out here. None of the long range sensors watching the region have detected activity near them. No signs of a subspace event that could have killed them all either."

He has one of the operations personnel call up an structural map of the destroyed Heavy carrier based off the scans from the recovered Light Cruiser. Ghost like support frames fly in from all directions surrounding the hull and filling parts of the interior.
"Her plan was to construct the framework around the remains of the hull, ensure it was structurally sound, and only then fit the FTL systems."

"What could delay the operation this long?"
"Engines on the Carrier was my first guess. They're bigger than anything most of the Factions mass produce, and setting up smaller replacements could be complicated. If it isn't that either the FTL or the structure is being more difficult than planned. Did you want to risk contacting them?"

You do have all 3 battlecruisers and your SP Torpedo stockpile here.
>Your orders?
>>
>>32112912
>Your orders?

Ask him how much time we should give them to return before it's prudent to worry.

Nikolov knows what she is doing and contacting them only causes a risk of detection which we do not want until we are ready to sell this magnificent beast of a ship to the House. We'll keep monitoring the situation for now.

>>
>>32112957
>>32113018
I'd say a combo of these
>>
>>32112912

How long overdue are they? If there was an accident, I'm sure there is some sort of ELT type bit of equipment they've have fired off and caused a ruckus with. Surely RSS has begun certification under Space ISO 9001 to work for the Factions Alliance and non-Dominion factions?
>>
"How long overdue are they?"

"By Nikolov's best case scenario they should have been back a month ago. The worst case if five days from now."

"So we still have some time. Keep monitoring the situation for now. The moment the worst case scenario has passed let me know and I'll ready my ships."

The shipdocks and repair berths still seem to have plenty of work. One Kilo class Medium cruiser is under repair, it's the last of the ones RSS retrieved last year and is expected to fetch a good price. With the House in its current cash strapped state they have not been able to buy the last few repaired. Instead the mediums have been sold to the Republic, PCCG, or in one case to another House but only after the Admiralty had approved the sale.
"I've decided to play it safe with inter-House politics."

Merc and civilian ships make up most of those getting repair, conversion or upgrade work done these days. A few of the vessels being rebuilt are the result of company salvage expeditions but they're in the minority. Most ships in dock are just transports making use of the station's regular HLV traffic to the surface.

The lower docking arms have been expanded to handle the increased cargo traffic. It's a good thing the other two stations were also given expansions by the Governor or it would begin to impact the structural strength of your main one.

"We may need to decide soon if the main station will be a semi-permanent one or not. As for the other two, we could pull the remainder of the modules we own and use them to set up in another system as needed. I wouldn't recommend doing so without giving the Governor plenty of warning. Our rapid development here has her on edge."

>setting up Caetus Security
How much support is there for this name btw? Keeping in mind it translates roughly to "large sea animal"

Cetaceans= Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises
Carcharodon= great white shark but I suspect that's mostly the newer scientific naming conventions.
Is there no old name for shark?
>>
>>32113774
I just ran Shark throught google translate and got Caetus in Latin out of it and figured, "Hey, this sounds nice enough". It's also easy on the tongue if you ask me. The name however is less important than the actual company.

Making it permanent seems like a good choice since we have no plans of moving it elsewhere and have said so to the press as well. Also we're making money out of it, more than we're suppose to even!

>With the House in its current cash strapped state

>>
>>32113774
>station permanent

I'd like to at least look into producing a permanent, non-modular station to replace the modular station for docking and smaller-scale repairs, along with a possible sister station.

I think it would be both a wise investment long-term and allow us to move our modular station elsewhere, likely closer to the war where the heavy repair capabilities will be in greater demand and seeing more constant use.
>>
>>32113774
I do like the sound of Carcharodon Security.

I think that we should have our stations remain where they are and that we should look into acquiring more station modules & another station core.

How I imagine our expantion is from here we pick a planet, move a new station there, sink our fangs into the local infrastructure a little, and then more on to another world to repeat the process.

If we can secure a contract with someone who produces Station modules & Cores then our expansion could increase quite a bit.

Question: We went with the buying the cloak correct? Could it be possible to use the rest of our favor to have them help us secure a favorable contract & some station modules/cores?
>>
>>32113774
Make it semi-permanent. Its already becoming a local fixture and if we do buy that licenses for producing Moli's and Y-Types, then use those profits to expand into shuttles and support/industrial frigates (I'm pretty sure that's what their type was) we'll become a planetary staple with what I imagine would be a very sizeable stake in its orbital infrastructure.

That's besides the fact that we could produce nearly the entire logistics train for RSS in house for production costs. Its a definite win-win for us.

>"Hey, this sounds nice enough"
You do make a good point. I'll still be adding name vote options to the next survey.

>>32114001
>How financially viable would that be?
It could be very. Additional structural supports could increase its strength and allow attachment of external cargo parking areas. At the moment the only other large station in the system is the one the military operates. As long as salvage operations are based out of your station it means there's more demand for good and equipment and more people are present. As a result traders will go there first. It's a bit of a snowball effect.

>>32114025
>permanent, non-modular station
While a good idea Mr London suggests waiting until the fallout has passed from the Heavy Carrier salvage before attempting it. While the local economy and trade is getting better that could always change.
"We can't maintain exponential growth on salvage alone in South Reach. Eventually we're going to run out of wrecked ships we can salvage for free and that could halt the current business growth. It could take years to fully construct a permanent station and market fluctuations could cripple such an effort. We can afford to wait a few years to be sure."

>>32114058
>acquiring more station modules & another station core.
Added to the RSS purchase list unless there are objections.

>>32114419
>Can modular stations even handle true shipyards for ships of those sizes?
They can be used as the base to which the slipway would be attached. Not really recommended if you're using the station for trade. Building from scratch is different from salvage repair work where you have most of a ship there.
>>
>>32114419
IIRC TSTG mentioned that it would be possible to add those sections to our station when we were discussing what module to add to the Anchorage. We're already repairing ships of that size so its not a huge leap to add sections to it that could produce them.

Hey check it out. I spent a bunch of time trying to design a HEAT round with an EFP core. But I ended up just making a bunch of other designs instead.

HEAT rounds are actually kind of primitive compared to stuff like splinter tech. And even today tanks tend to use APFSDS instead because HEAT has so many effective countermeasures like ERA and spaced armour. You probably won't find anything like that in infantry armour of course but even then HEAT has more limitations. You can't use it at short range because of the backblast, and in long ranged battles on open ground solid core rounds have better ballistics.

This should be the final list of ammo designs, I can't think of any other kinds we could need. Unless we get those fusion burst rounds working that is.

It was set up via a small grant to the local government to hire additional teaching staff. They're working with both the House and the refugee population to develop a curriculum that will get Shallan children up to speed and help adjust to life in the Dominion and South Reach.

You give Mr London a bit more time to sort out a few things that have come up regarding the mining operations and some station logistics.

Valeri has now equipped his Reacon armor with the spare camo system and is beginning tests with it while preparing for inspection. Like most Republic equipment the armor material is not quite as strong as those used by other Factions. On the upside the outer armor layers can be swapped out more easily. This should make it easier to upgrade.

The suit is a better choice for sneaking when compared to any normal power armor but isn't quite up to the standards you've come to expect from your own. Perhaps your suit is of exceptionally good quality compared to others and you just didn't realise it?

Silent movement systems deffinitely work which is the imporant thing.

"Sir if we keep acquiring new suits it might be necessary to expand the armory. That or install a revolving section in the wall of your quarters with a maintinence bay on the other side."
Now there's an idea.

At the very least thanks to the removable armor sections you use on your suit it should be relatively easy to fit Valeri's with a basic protection upgrade.
"With your permission sir I would like to test out the suit planet side once the techs have attempted their upgrades. I could use the practice sneaking with it."

You'll have to specify, there are a lot of nobles. Any kind of clue would be helpful. Yes updating the character name list on the wiki is an ever increasing priority.

Wait, Eshik Medel? The kid without a House or title trying to buy one of your Errant class?
You can contact the mercs to have him recalled to the station if you'd like.

There was also the Shallan businessman on Tourta that wanted to buy out your share of the high security resort.
He's sent a new offer of 4 million which is more than double what you invested in it.

>>32131171
>Also, see if Mr N (I'm not even going to attempt writing the name from memory) can refer us to somebody who could upgrade the suit.
Mr Nxesi? His apprentices have been looking after maintaining your suits on the last deployment. They should be able to upgrade it.
Only 1 of the apprentices were mentioned by name on one occasion and I've tried and failed several times to find it.

>Is the lesser performance a problem of design or material/system quality? If it's the latter our armoury staff should be able to refit the suit with better parts and materials.
Mostly quality. It's an older suit built by the Republic's slightly lower tech base, but it's still perfectly serviceable. Given time for upgrades it could probably match your suit.

>Also where did Valeri come from again? It's been a while. When we decided we needed a bodyguard was he just a marine that volunteered?
He had been stuck on protection details before and generally did well in simulations the Marines go through. When you requested a bodyguard he was at the top of the list out of your Marines.

>>32131416
>Are we talking Civilian areas?
Yes. It seems he wanted to find areas with more chaotic pedestrian traffic that would prove a challenge, and a military base would be bad for a number of reasons.

Barring that doing the same sort of tests on Tourta might work out as there is less threat of government oversight there.

I think we should head out to visit Eshik Medel instead of recalling him, simply to show that we're taking him seriously and not seeing him as someone we order around. It also lets us spook some of the RSS people into ensuring they're doing their jobs right.

Tourta is probably the better place to play around in his new armor.

Are we talking Dominion South Reach, House FPL South Reach, SRL South Reach, or the whole shebang?

I've got reservations about former Free Planets League space, and major reservations about SRL space investments.
>>
>>32132167
Basically I was thinking Dominion South Reach for the moment. When we did our Holoplex deal we had though of opening some up on multiple worlds so maybe we start our expansion that way.

Basically if we can expand to the fringe worlds of our house we could "possibly" then expand to FPL or SRL territory depending on the circumstances.

Basic plan I thought would be: Build up in fringe systems that are house controlled then go from there.

As long as we have that price on our head I don't think expanding into SRL territory proper would be a good idea. Maybe after our A.I. friend has that information we want we might could work something out, but that is a big maybe.

>That Baron we talked to said the Smuggler's run needed infrastructure, iirc. If our Anchorage can still build station frames, we might be able to contract out for that.

There has been a lot of talk about construction, either of shipyards, stations or mobile manufacturing centers. Then there's traditional salvage support. Your Anchorage is the one ship that can do it all, travel where it's needed and carry enough support equipment to do the job.

But it's just one ship and it can't be everywhere, especially if it's being used to salvage. Your best option if you plan to "do it all" would be to buy the Exodus full production license for 50 million and construct a shipyard capable of building their smaller mobile construction ships. They're about the size of a carrier.
The hulls can also be converted for general cargo hauling.

While not designed for it you could see about modifying the Moli to act in the same capacity as the Exodus construction ship. You could then use a Dominion Battlecruiser grade shipyard to produce them providing you options for transports, passenger liners or warships.

Going with Exodus provides better civilian industrial options, a Dominion yard more military ones via the House

You also might want to buy a mining barge or more for that planned mobile production operation. London is ambivalent about having a mining arm of the company.

Maybe since there was some help needed in the Smuggler's run we could do a two pronged expansion or expand in both directions. To the Fringe and to the Smuggler's Run.

We're a few posts past the autosage point, I believe.

For next week, would it be possible to get information on those Exodus construction ships? How long our Anchorage would need to build one, price, and the output? I'm sort of envisioning the Anchorage coming into a system and building a station's core, heavy framework and then moving on to a salvage job or somewhere to park in orbit and make more ships. Then 6 or so construction ships from RSS would jump into the system and proceed to do the rest of the work on the station.

>buy a mining barge
"Will salvage lots for salvage rights on a mining barge"

I just want to mention that I still think mobile manufacturing is a terrible idea
We don't strip a systems resources nearly fast enough for it to be feasible
>>
>>32132678
I think it was said that we most likely can't build a Station's Core, but I can see us jumping in with one and all that happening.

Other than that I can see that happening.

Build up what we need, get the whole thing worked out with whoever is in charge of a planet, Have the Anchorage jump in with construction ships behind it, set everything up, and get back to salvaging.

The entire process made so that when we want to expand it's done efficiently.

How long would it take to build a shipyard?
>>
>>32132877
I have to agree with you on that. The logistics of ensuring a stationary manufacture point gets what it needs can be nearly impossible at times, and when you make that manufacturing point mobile you're certainly going to run into a Neeran fleet of logistics nightmares as everything en-route needs to be re-routed and anyone with a mind to will be able to track you either by intercepting those changes or tracking your supply shipments.

>>32132887
I was thinking for permanent stations, actually. Get contracted to build smaller-end shipyards and stations, maybe a long-term contract to build an Exodus-tier station for the House?

If we want to set up modular bases, we'd just use Moli's and Y-types, iirc.
>>
>>32132887
People already expand quickly with modular station cores. We need to set up a conventional manufacturing before we can even consider this mobile nonsense
>>
>>32132989
Mobile manufacturing is also inherently less efficient because less space is being used to build stuff due to the need to mount engines and other ship design requirements.
>>
>>32132989
I think the deal with permanent station is that they aren't going anywhere while the mobile stations can at least be moved.

Both have their uses and I can see us having a mobile "station" that we set up at new places and then decide if it's worth build a new station there.
>>
>>32133276
Again, in this case I'm saying we build stations on contract, not for RSS. We've got the ability to produce Exodus stations, with the license, and they're supposedly damned good stations. If the House wants some, we might be able to provide a nice domestic alternative to Exodus.

Mr London's comments on building permanent RSS stations are good enough for me to drop the subject of building permanent stations for RSS.
>>
>>32133318
That sounds like a pretty good idea and i'm sure there are those that would be interested in a shiny new station.

>information on those Exodus construction ships
While the Exodus mobile yards primarily made use of ships loaned by the other Factions in their early days the number of projects it was necessary to take on was far beyond what their resources could handle.
Construction ships were designed to be built aboard vessels like the Anchorage class that had been suitably modified, or in conventional slipways. Each vessel could carry the equivilant of a modern industrial module with everything necessary to support it. Normally small teams of these ships would be deployed to systems where they were needed for specific roles. They could also support the larger yards themselves if they were unable to move due to construction efforts.

When planning to be stationary for an extended period the drive modules of the ships can be detached so they can be used on other vessels until needed. In this way they're similar to the smaller industrial modules used today but have much better protection against attack.

>How long our Anchorage would need to build one,
4-6 months total in it's current state.
2-3 months once conversions are completed or if they're built from an operational slipway.
>price
Around 40 million each with the equipment aboard.

>and the output?
Same as a normal industrial module.

Broken down into it's separate pieces you'd paying for
10m Ind module
16m Hull, support systems, shields
14m Two detachable FTL capable sublight drive modules
>>

So with our anchorage configured as it is with a single Exodus module, the Anchorage and a construction ship would have the exact same output if building a station?
>>
>>32133689
Production of parts to make a station? Yes.
Assembling them into larger sections? No.

All that extra internal space and worker arms are good for something.

Did anyone have plans for that old repulsor tank besides the one suggestion of putting it in the trophy room?

New Message!
Your mother contacts you letting you know a package arrived addressed to you. Specifically a letter. It ended up being redirected a few times after your Lodge burned down.

It's from Versa stating that she has the information you wanted but is unable to send it to you as doing so will violate a couple of laws. If you want it you'll need to talk to the Captain in person as it would be the only way to keep it officially off the record. If it's an emergency she could transmit it right away but it would almost certainly get both of you in quite a bit of trouble.

We should have some mechanics have a look at it. Maybe something valuable can be learned from its design?

Yay, we get to visit Versa. We should bring an extra large digital storage unit, just in case...
>>
>>32133955
The repulsor tank might be an interesting project to have RSS repair for fun. We do come across ground vehicles that were transported on ships, after all.

Which reminds me. Didn't one of those Terrans we recovered from the salvage sites accept our job offer, after seeing the others off to Terran space?

It might be interesting to see how they're adjusting to life, and generally trying to be friendly. Former military might be a good person to have assigned to our training programs and generally ensuring they're not now a Terran Intel operative... should have thought about that one earlier.

Thanks for the thread TSTG, it's been fun. I really want to have Sonia join a fox hunt at some point in the future.
>>
Looks like we have to make a trip to see Versa and her captain. Seems like the captain is in on this too now so it must be serious. We should remember to tell her that someone other than the Terrans might be tapping her communications.
>>
See you guys next week. I won't know what day the next game will start until Saturday.

>He's sent a new offer of 4 million which is more than double what you invested in it.
Yeah I feel the same way.

We earn millions of credits(?) basically every month. Land on the other hand, is a much harder commodity to come by.
