You are Tumahti, Toa of Earth, and you are journeying to the southernmost tip of Po-Wahi to retrieve a Kanohi Kaukau with Gali, Toa of Water. The last of the night was spent outlining your route, using vague details the Turaga gave you. Gali had asked why the two of you wouldn't just pass straight through Ko-Wahi.

"We have command over Water and Earth. Cooling lava into rock is easier than slogging through snow."

"That way, you don't meet up with Kopaka."

You didn't deny that might be affecting your choices.

A decision was reached: you would skirt the southern slopes of the Mangai volcano through Le-Wahi and continue through the Tren Krom break along the edge of Ko-Wahi. From there, you would arrive at Ga-Koro and charter a boat to your goal in Po-Wahi. That was your plan. It was a sound plan, but you had forgotten to take xenophobic Ta-Matoran into account.

The journey through the jungle was uneventful. No nearby Rahi were bold (or stupid or powerful) enough to attack the two of you. You wer almost out.

The volcano would erupt soon, although you could tell that the crater rim has a cleft in it; you shouldn't be in danger, as the lava would flow down the canyon into the sea. Aside from the barely-perceptible tremors, the only sign of the impending eruption was a column of smoke rising from the top of the volcano. Gali seemed to have picked up on this, but she hadn't said anything so far.

Here you are, at the cable car. It looks pretty haphazard. A single Ta-Matoran jumps when he sees you and levels his staff, albeit unconvincingly.

"Halt! I-in the name of Tahu! Who are you?"

---

[ ] You don't have time for this. Use your earth powers to set him aside and jump on the cable car.

[ ] Explain who you are. (Provide details, /tg/.)

[ ] Take a look down into the canyon. Is there a lower way across?

You can't bridge the chasm with your power; it's too wide.
>>
>>32179785
Greetings. I am Tumahti and this is Gali. I am a Toa of Earth and she is the Toa of Water.
>>
>>32179785
In the Name Of Tahu? If he knows who that is he should probably be able to guess who we are
>>
>>32180090

Masks aren't very expressive, but you can tell the Ta-Matoran is glaring at you.

"I know of Gali. The Turaga told us the Six had arrived. Tahu, Toa of Fire. Gali, Toa of Water. Lewa, Toa of Air. Pohatu, Toa of Stone. Kopaka, a Toa of Ice. Onua. Toa. Of. Earth."

He is trembling.

"What are you?"

Luckily, Gali intervenes. "Tumahti is a Toa." She stops for a second. "Are you doubting me?"

The Ta-Matoran holds his ground. "No, but, as a member of the Ta-Koro Guard, I cannot let anyone I do not recognise past. My duty is to my Koro, and I will not take risks with its safety."

He seems to have made up his mind.

"Toa Gali, I apologize for the inconvenience. You may cross."

---

-Tell Gali you'll just find another way over.

-Confront the Ta-Matoran, forcibly if need be.
>>
>>32180385
Tell Gali you'll just find another way over.
Better to come of as reasonable than as an ass
>>
>>32180385
>Tell Gali you'll just find another way over.

I get the feeling that, while not as extreme, this sort of reaction is going to be given to us by a lot of Matoran.
>>
>>32180385
>-Confront the Ta-Matoran,
Just not forcibly. Lets get him to loosen up and chill out.
>>
>>32180405

You tell Gali that it's fine, and that the cable car looks pretty sketchy anyway. It's just a hook on a cable- probably wouldn't hold the both of you. The guard bristles, but looks relieved as you leave. You can't really begrudge him his duty, but he could have been a bit nicer about it.

You slide down to the base of the canyon easily, making handholds wherever you need them. The heat of the lava flow hits you with palpable force. A Ta-Matoran on a metal board shoots past, surfing on the lava. Wow. They really take their sport seriously. Somehow, you can't believe Turaga Vakama would approve, but they seem safe enough, and they are fun to watch.

---

Enough standing around. How will you cross the lava flow?

-Use your earth powers to raise pillars from the river floor, since a bridge would take too much energy.

-Go up or down the canyon looking for somewhere shallower.

-Write-in some other solution.
>>
>>32180708
The pillars might work but make sure they aren't still there afterwards so surfers don't hit them

Rock floats on lava right? Maybe we can shape some makeshift boat to float across on?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XePn_-h0arU

Tahu's got the right idea.
>>
You decide to lava surf your way across. You form a board-like shape from the ground and harden it into rock, because, while you can't control rock, dirt probably won't do too well. You put it into the lava... and it floats away. You would have no idea how to steer it.

You focus on the earth under the river and will it to become a pillar rising through the lava. It responds.

You take a running start and leap toward the pillar. Your hand touches it, and you scream in pain. Somehow, you find the strength to springboard off the pillar and over to the other side. Your hand is steaming. You stick it into the sand, and the sand becomes glass that you have to break off. Doing so isn't very fun.

After you recover, you briefly contemplate bringing the cable car down on the guard's head. You conscientiously lower the pillar then begin the climb up the other side of the cliff.

Gali is waiting for you. You ask her, "So how was the cable car?"

"Rickety." She says. "How'd you get over?"

---

Answer her. Act like it was nothing? Mention your burnt hand? Talk about the lava surfers? You think you might have fared better in Ko-Wahi.

Getting back to the Bell Toa, I'd say male if we want him to be a traveling bard type. Female could work, but that stereotype sticks in my head.
>>
>>32184443
> Female could work, but that stereotype sticks in my head.
what stereotype is that?

yeah I picture bell toa being male too. I sort of imagine him weilding just a massive Bell swinging it around like some kind of bludgeon, lots of GONGS with every strike.
For some reason I pictured either Bell Toa, or Captain Nui as some sort of zen master. the kind of person that would kick your ass with out kicking it, and would wax philiosophical afterwards.

Plus when it comes to bells I can't help but think of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlfRKsgCM8Y
>>
>>32184489
The plucky and funny (maybe pervy) male bard stereotype. At least, funny to themselves anyway.

I think the Captain would be the more Zen kind. Especially since, being Magnetic, he would be balanced both bodily and spiritually.

You tell Gali what happened. She looks... not distraught, but mildly peeved with herself.

"I should have gone with you."

You tell her that you're fine.

The rest of the trip goes well. You and Gali get acquainted and talk about what little you know of the island. You will arrive at Ga-Koro soon. Is there anything in particular you want to discuss with Gali?
>>
>>32184563
Okay i can see that. Plus I'd totally picture Bell Toa as being one of those passionate artist types perhaps then. The kind of guy to talk about the beauty in sound and song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWU7yRB_RiM
Maybe a bit of a tinker or show off.

As for a Kanohi i pictured he'd either use the Mask of Sonar, or something.

"I awoke two days or so before you. I found Ga-Koro and eventually made my way to the Kini-Nui. Before then, I remember nothing."

From the Naho falls, you can see Ga-Koro. (It's a bit bigger than this picture indicates). The village is situated on giant lily pads.

You check the huts, but the village appears empty. The ocean water is clear enough for you to see a large dark shape on the sea floor. Gali mentions she thought there was a large hut near the center of the village, but she must have been mistaken. One pad holds only a strange mechanism. It looks to have been hurriedly sabotaged, with one tube cut and others jury-rigged together to serve some other purpose. Rahi would have wrecked it. Some boats are missing. One Matoran is lying on an outer lily pad, passed out.

---
???

-Break into the Turaga's hut. It's locked, and nobody is responding from inside, but you could try anyway.

-You and Gali can cooperate to raise the shape from the sea floor.

-Search the huts throughly. You only glanced into each of them.

-Try to revive the Matoran. He looks stable. You need to find out what's happening here.

>-Try to revive the Matoran. He looks stable. You need to find out what's happening here.

Always try to wake people up first. If Gali wants, she can try to wake them while we search the other huts for other Matoran.

Also, is it a Ga-Matoran? or a visitor?

You aren't quite sure how to revive the Matoran, so you gently prod him while Gali explores underwater. He wakes up. You don't know
what you'd have done if he hadn't.

"What happened?"
He sputters a bit, then breathes. "Tarakava."
You aren't sure you heard him correctly. "A Tarakava."

"What's a Tarakava?"

Everything happens at once. Gali bursts out of the water, Ga-Koro's sealed chamber breaks the surface, and something hits the lily pad you're on hard enough to knock you into the water.

It looks like the punchy thing you tried to fight off when you first arrived has a name. It's a Tarakava.

---

Panicking will get you nowhere. You tread water and focus. Gali has jumped into the water and is swimming towards you.

It takes just about all of your energy, but a narrow column of earth rises out of the Naho Bay with you flat on your back atop it. You force yourself to move it high enough to keep you out of the Tarakava's reach. You close your eyes- the sun is painfully bright- and feel the tension in your muscles. As you move your awareness to your body you can feel it trembling and shaking rhythmically. The trembling is due to overexpediture of your Elemental Energy, so what's causing the rhythmic pounding?

Oh. Fuck.

FuckfuckfuckfuckFUCKaaaaaAAAAAAAsplash.

The water jolts you mostly back to your senses. Your desperate column would have taken too long to reach you if it had been any thicker. The Tarakava's red eyes glow underwater. Now you have some earth to work with, but you're about to pass out.

>>
Still woozy from using so much power, you miss- and almost strike the Tarakava square in the nose. It manages to bend its arm at an unnatural angle. Gali has arrived, and she sends a slow persistent wave to push you back onto the central platform.

Without looking back, she dives straight for the Tarakava. Half your head is underwater. Gali seems to float, evading the Tarakava's attacks with small nudges of current on herself and the Rahi. She, like Kopaka, has an incredible degree of precision with her power- you'd guess the others do as well.

Finally Gali shoots forward and retrieves something from the Rahi's head. It flees, and only then do you allow yourself to let the Ga-Matorand drag you from the water and sleep.

You are awakened by starlight on your mask. The Matoran have pushed three beds together for you. Your body is sore, both from using too much energy and from your impact on the water. Hahli is standing by the door. "You're awake. Nokama told me to take you to her hut. There's something she wanted to tell you and Gali."

You walk with Hahli to Nokama's home. Nokama locks the door behind you, then retrieves a parcel from under her bed, where Gali is sitting.

"That Tarakava was wearing an infected Kanohi. Makuta's eyes are ever watching. You seek the Kaukau in Po-Wahi? One of you should take this to Onewa. He will keep it safe, if it is Great or Noble, or destroy it if it is common. Such things are dangerous."

Gali nods.

"Pelagia will lend you two a boat. I've already spoken with her."

Gali stands up. "We'll leave in an hour or so. Pick up any supplies you want."

---

Is there anything you want? You have a while to explore the village and talk to Matoran.

You go to the Astrologer's house, but it looks like she isn't home or doesn't want to talk to you. You procure a bamboo shaft for your spear and three lightstones and an air bladder from a trader, along with a bag to carry them in. Gali is helping Pelagia prep the boat when you feel a tap on the back of your knee. It's a Ga-Matoran with a package.

"If you're going to Po-Koro and if it isn't too much trouble could you um give this to a Po-Matoran named Hewkii and tell him it's from Macku thank you."

Pelagia scratches her mask. "I've never seen her so flustered." You pick up the package and place it in your bag, then get in the boat with Gali.

The waves push you along slowly but surely; you aren't in a rush and the sunrise over Naho Bay is worth watching. You and Gali sit in companionable silence. Once the sun is up, you have the water to watch. Schools of shimmering fish swim past, pursued by Takea sharks, which in turn are preyed on by Tarakava. You're in Po-Wahi before you know it. Gali points out the general direction of the mask. You practically run up the cliff toward it, and Gali follows.

The mask is right in front of you. A massive stone pyramid is balanced point down on the Kanohi Kaukau you seek.

---

/write-in: How are you going to get that mask?
>>
>>32190414
How many faces does the pyramid have?

Summon an equal number of stone pillars to gently lift the pyramid, and slowly. nudge the mask out quickly one the pyramid has been lifted the minimum amount. slow and steady is the name of the game here.

Gently set the pyramid down again

I really don't want the po-matoran getting angry at usm that pyramid is probably something the put a lot of effort into.

Hm... the problem with this plan might be that we're on solid rock. we are in Po Wahi. Solid stone mesas and dusty deserts are the order of the day. Our power is earth. The loose particulates and ground beneath us.

I'm tempted to solve this without elemental powers and maybe with our toa tool.

We're a toa of earth though, not stone. Our domain is massive swaths of loose dirt... rather than flinging around or moving small or large rocks.
>>
>>32190825
Yes, this sounds good
>>
>>32190864
Not completely moot. We might still be able to dig a chamber under the pyramid to let it fall into and catch. Probably a little dangerous, but hey, what isn't?
>>
>>32190840
We have a kanohi calix. Highly unlikely improbable maneuvers are what we're all about.
>>
>>32190825
My only problem with this, is how would we get up there without upsetting the pyramid?

Trivia: Onewa once had to deal with what was basically the same problem. As a Toa of Stone, he just removed the object, but he remembered the idea.
>>
>>32190996
Of course we could never know this since the turaga's status as former toa metru has not been revealedd to us

we need to show initiative
>>
>>32190921
I keep forgetting we have that.

is this a philosophical riddle of some sort?
>>
>>32191091
My best guess without looking it up? Pull an Indiana Jones with it and hope our Calix protects us.

Also a reasonable idea. But I'm not sure of the upper limits of the mask. Basically it grants the user heightend reflexes and dexterity, essentially giving them the power to pull off crazy unlikely stunts without even thinking.

Getting shot at from a long range, the mask makes you instinctively dodge. Make a leap of faith? the mask helps you get a lucky hand hold.

rather appropriate gear for someone who seemingly has thrown a wrench into the machinations of destiny

Lookie at what I found on the noble ebay.
Seems a little dinky, since it belonged to one of the Turaga sets, but still kinda fits the look for our heroine's drill spear?
>>
>>32191322
True, very true. Also, I just re-read the post and realized it's Gali's Kanohi type we're getting here, which explains why she let us have it.

I honestly thought she already had a second and was letting us get this one to balance it out.

might be more in line for the scale of the toa, while still remaining within the limits of "official pieces only"

or some of the power miner drillbitz
>>
>>32191366
I thought the mask that was pinned under this rock was the Kanohi Kakama, the speedy mask Pohatu has.
>>
>>32190414
>A massive stone pyramid is balanced point down on the Kanohi Kaukau you seek.
This is what the post says.
>>
>>32191460
swore it was the other one according to last thread but I could be wrong.
>>
>>32191540
Last thread says Kaukau too. Although, I didn't even think the last thread mentioned the name, so we both remembered poorly.
>>
Anyway, I don't think we've come to a consensus here. Any more ideas guys?
>>
>>32191749
Let's have the chronicler roll for it

Going to sleep. Will archive thread.

Yeah sorry my bad. Have a pic as recompense.
>>32191749
I'm going to lean towards coring the pyramid, using our mask's power rather than the elemental energy. We're on solid rock so I doubt our earth powers are going to be as effective as they would be on sand. And the nature of Calix will let us pull off such a crazy feat.
>>32191787
sounds like thats for the best too.
>>
>>32191787
That seems ... like a poor decision to be honest. I'd rather not leave this sort of thing up to /tg/ dice.

>>32191810
Well, I suppose its a moot point. Night and thanks for running!
>>
>>32191810
Ah so it looks like we'll find out what won tomorrow then.

Danke chronicler.
>>
>>32191810
thanks for running this, it's been fun
>>
>>32191841
There wasn't really a consensus reached. Feel free to try to get to one.

>>32191856
Thank you! It's been great running.
>>
>>32191901
well i guess we either roll for it tomorrow or make
>Use Elemental Powers; Hold it up with Pillars of Earth.
and
>Use Toa Tool/Kanohi; Jump up and core the pyramid down the center.

Choices up for vote tomorrow. Cause those seem to be the options people are dwelling on.

When tomorrow will you think of firing up the quest?
>>
>>32183570
if I recall about Bell Toa.. it was a he and had dreadlocks. Or that is at least what people seemed to like.

I would say that he would be the type that says screw the unity I'm going on my own quest to find the ultimate music. But at the same time is totally chill and a bro throughout.

>>32182517
Pretty cool, but I thought his shield was supposed to be a shield/chakram?
>>
>>32194843
Yeah I remember all that about Bell Toa. It might work. I'll try and draw a proper version of him rather than a small doodle in the corner of that image.

I can see chakram being a useful magnetic weapon. But some people were digging the idea of him flying about like static shock. So i figured an uber versatile shield might be an idea.
