Stomping your way into the hotel, with your leather folder/organizer full of resumes clutched with a careless and strong hand, you sit in one of the assorted big comfy chairs yet occupied in the expansive lobby. In less than an hour the signup table line will start and you’ll be able to begin in earnest the search for one aspect of your presently uncertain future.

Kentaro follows in behind you, straightening his tie and giving a curt cough and subtle gesture toward you. Having just plopped down in the chair, you notice after his gesture the strain on your black skirt. Skirts, you’ll probably never get used to wearing them, crossing your legs with all the feminine grace Hitomi keeps trying to impress upon you you shoot him a nod of embarrassed thanks.

It takes you out of your anger as he sits in the chair to the side of your own and begins sorting through his shoulder bag. The lobby isn’t crowded yet as only a handful of attendants have arrived for the fair. Earlier on the train, you and Kentaro were having a fun conversation about the rookie crop on the popular wrestling circuits this year when something unexpected happened.
>>
>>32179782

Perverts. Perverts without restraint or manners. The thing you perhaps the greatest about your new bodacious figure is some of the uninvited attention it has been attracting. Sure you like your new physique being admired, you enjoy that with certain fondness when you’re out for a run in your workout gear, but this went beyond that. Clad as you are, with your exceptional strength hidden, your robust hourglass figure stands out. On the train, someone took it upon themselves to take a firm hold of your back and give it a squeeze.

Your reaction had been rage. Righteous and stone cold rage. Your firm back and every muscle in your body went iron hard rigid after the initial pressure to the surprise of the disgusting fellow. Without a word, but with eyes that spoke of fury and retribution you lifted him off his feet by the offending hand and quickly and quietly either left broken or dislocated his wrist. Leaving him there on the floor of the commuter rail, you didn’t bother to check the damage further.

Still, you’re here now and your rage has mostly calmed. You need something to take your mind off of this while you wait for the fair to open.

“So, have you heard about Back Alley League?” you ask Kentaro.

“The Street fight amature group that posts online?” he quirks an eyebrow.
>>
>>32179804

“No, they aren't street fights, they've got the same kind of match choreography going on as the pro ring,” you sigh and sink into the chair, “That, and if their site is any indication they’ve got training and a budget,”

He considers it.

“I’ll have to look into it. Are the fights any good? I imagine working without the usual trappings of a ring is quite dangerous.

“Yeah, couple bad hits on concrete happened, but the guys I watched walked away from it. They haven’t been arrested yet, so they probably have location permits. I watched a pretty good match set at the old West District Library,”

You talk about the new online amature wrestling league for a while. Shortly the lobby is crowded and you and Kentaro part ways with a promise to meet back up just after noon. The hunt begins, and you decide to prowl.

Only give the Mitsubishi booth a cursory attempt. We want a foreign company, like Pfeizer, DuPont, or AstraZeneca; one where misogyny is the exception and not the norm.

At least we can snoop around and see if MMI are around.

On the upside, Mori Micro seems progressive. Heck, besides the tech thing, they seem to trust a female spy with more than seduction.

Staying on the ground level, you being sorting your way through the calm crowd and general white noise of the hall. Companies and their representatives are laid out down assorted rows of tables oriented around a center pool of four large square arrangements for some of the larger companies at the room’s center.

At the center of the room are Mitsubishi, Z-Five, Google, and Sony. Numerous other companies line the tables both domestic and foreign. Some are unrecognizable to you. You drop by the Mitsubishi booth and are given lip service direction to their reception pool representative until you hand the man your sparse though impressive list of credentials. As upset as it makes you, you remain polite.

You about even with most of the people in the hall, some shorter than you and a scant few taller. This is what it’s like to see the world from an average height, granted you find way too many people giving you curious or appraising looks.

Most of the domestic companies start things off assuming you’re looking for office staff or reception, but a quick correction repeatedly leads to the curiosity of your surname and assumptions that you must have been raised abroad and that your Japanese is excellent.

Google and IBM are bright spots, the table workers for the divisions you want are at least traveled enough to notice your seeming frustration and that you made a direct line to their sections of the company representation. All in all by the time you've scoured most of the floor you've dropped off 13 resumes and had 8 very similar and angering conversations.
>>
>>32180500
In the last row of your sweep, you spy a table for Mori Micro Industries. Their table lacks the buzz of nanotech, though you can sense the active presence of Tomoko’s equipment nearby...and another obscure source further out. You’d just gotten accustomed to the presence of Tomoko’s gear, or she’s using gear she know’s you’ll notice right now, but there is something off about the other presence at the distant edge of your local awareness.

You aren’t actively looking for anything, and whatever is setting you off is far off and heavy. Could it be the strange sensation you felt deep underwater? No. Its something else and further to the east, your undersea excursion was a bit south of where you are now. Putting it out of your mind until later, you decide to satisfy another curiosity.

Mori Micro Industries. It is time to snoop.

There are three people at the table, representatives from their Legal, Research and Public Relations Departments. From the stands behind them and the presented literature, Research seems to be their go to word for all their actual project work. Engineering, Bio Tech, and anything weird that you know they’re involved in.

Much like the weird that rushes through your veins right now.

With the lightest bit of your awareness you know they all have cell phone and secure mobile devices keyed to a bluetooth connection to the hearing aid small ear pieces each of them are wearing. The woman representing their legal department and the young straight laced looking fellow from their research department each get calls while they are talking to other interested prospects as you browse pamphlets on the Agribusiness contracts they’ve been fulfilling and information on green and environmentally friendly bio tech and advanced energy projects they intend to complete in the next decade.
>>
>>32180512

Their eyes fall on you in the middle of their active calls. Someone else is watching. Someone told them who or what you are or at least that you were important.

It was probably Tomoko, or whomever she reports to.

Or, you could just be being paranoid.

Triangulate. We can do it from here, right?

>Engage the young man from Research, about what?
Let's focus on more engineering. Potential job opportunities, any projects that might fit our credentials. Maybe inquire about alternative energy technology to break the ice?
>>

>Try and figure something out about that distant heavy presence, how?
Triangulation sounds fine to me if it works, otherwise chat with the Research dude.

Triangulation and talking to the young man from Research seem to be popular options.

What points of origin what you are presently aware of do you wish to use to Triangulate the presence to the east?

You now have 6 points in the bank.

You will soon know through triangulation the position of the weight on the edge of your senses.

You are engaging the young fellow from Research.

Writing.
>>
Looking off into the distance, you orient yourself between 3 locations you know for certain in relation to yourself. The building you stand in now, your own apartment, and the hospital you spent an extended period of time comatose in.

You approach the younger fellow, perhaps younger than you. Certainly shorter. Though his appearance appeared initially straight laced, you can make out closed remnants of piercings on his ears and even across the bridge of his nose.

“Hi,” you begin with a smile, “I notice Mori Micro was getting into new renewable energy source projects. Could you tell me a bit about them?”

Though you stand a head taller than the young man, he doesn’t seem intimidated by you; nor does he seem intimidated by possibly knowing more about what you are than you do at the moment.

“Yes,” he says excitedly, “We’re actually launching a project off the gulf coast of Florida next month involving an unique Tidal Generator. It doesn’t generate tidals forces, just harnesses moving surf,”

“Hasn’t that been done before?”
>>
>>32181406
“Yes, but not like this. The area will be enclosed with a unique micro mesh to agitate and contain a species of seaweed we’ve engineered that can generate excess oxygen during its photosynthetic processes,”

Extending your awareness to each location, you feel the distant pressure of weight at the edge of your own presence and the buzz of not quite nano tech activity some three hundred miles away from you in the midst of the pacific ocean and closing toward Tokyo at a rapid pace.

“Aren’t you worried about it escaping into the environment?”

“It can’t reproduce unassisted, and we’ve gotten local approval for the project,”

Whatever it is, it is large.

“Is it any connection to some of your Petroleum Clean Up bio projects?”

“Heh, loosely. Given the dispersal since the BP spill we aren’t expecting much chance to explore that avenue,”

“But you hope to hit a patch of it?”

“Maybe,”

Excess oxygen during photosynthesis? That's some crazy-skilled bioengineering there. Though harnessing tidal currents to generate electricity could be neat if they had a beneficial ratio...

Major Question: How rapidly is the large thing approaching? Los Vegas happened so being worried about that isn't just paranoia.
Could it make landfall in minutes, hours, or days?
If a less than days, we should contact Tomoe quickly.
>>
>>32182045
Hey, speaking of Vegas, what is known about that anyway?
>>
>>32182070

Most electronic recording devices experienced short outs or powered down. The attack happened in the middle of the night so most eye witness account states that 'Something Huge and lumbering stalked into town" brief flashes of fire from explosions and a few non digital cameras caught glimpses of a creature resembling an Armadillo. It was estimated to be some five stories tall on all fours.

The world has had time to have it's shocked reaction to something impossible, there have been no sightings of the creature since and no answers as to where it came from released by the authorities.

And so, the world moves on.
>>
You continue to ‘watch’ the strange presence’s approach while engaging the young Research Dept representative.

“So, what’s the turnover ratio or conversion for the generator?” you inquire as you adopt a more open position of body language to imply an earnest interest.

“Actually, part of this project is to test different mechanisms and fine tune the conversion efficiency of our project to make tidal power farms a more efficient and viable means of power generation. It’s all very exciting,”

You continue to ask questions while the presence continues it’s approach. Touching on the skill and technique needed to alter seaweed as they had, and wondering if their new breed would still taste good. Eventually you work your way around to material sciences and 3d Printing being a basis for “Potential” nano tech construction directives.

“Hm, I think I’ve been getting ahead of myself. I never properly introduced myself,” you remove a copy of your resume from your folder and hand it to him, “Tsubasa Campbell, pleased to meet you,”

He nods, taking the paper.

“Josuke Saotome, and I am pleased to meet you as well. You’re a very interesting woman, Campbell-san,”

“So I’ve been told,”

It stops. It had moved at least 3 miles in the few minutes since you’d been speaking with Josuke. Now it is stopped and you aren’t certain why. You’ve been on the floor here for a while. You eat up a fair bit of his time before you are interrupted by the woman from Legal.

“Josuke, while I appreciate your technique to ferret out and appraise talent, there are other interested potential applicants at the table who need your attention,” her face is striking and a pair of half moon glasses rest on her nose with a red cord falling beneath her hair.
>>
>>32182493
She speaks with authority and clicks her high heeled shoes as she turns.

“And I am quite certain that you’ll have another opportunity to speak with Miss Campbell in the future,”

“Sorry about that, Miss Aoi,” he says with a bit of embarrassment, “We’ll contact you again shortly but I didn’t really get to talk to you about our career pro-”

Aoi clears her throat, poignantly. Saotome gives an apologetic nod and heads back toward the table to speak with another engineer.

“I hope you’ll forgive young Josuke for his enthusiasm,” she begins, “but he was rather excited to learn you would be at this fair,” she speaks with certain and clear diction and enunciation and regards you with little other emotion or inflection.

“I figured as much,” you feel guarded around this woman, “I mean, that you’d know who I was. Guess I’m just a big deal,”

“Yes. However we have other concerns and you have demonstrated quite clearly that you haven’t let power go entirely to your head. Though I must say the changes you’ve made to your appearance, while the subconscious changes nicely fit your psychological profile, I find it a bit disappointing how you continue to try and compensate for your perceived shortcomings since learning to alter yourself intentionally,” she drawls, “Immaturity I suppose,”

>Yeah, time to go get some air. You could literally break this woman in half, but that would be troublesome.

Without saying another word, you turn away from the woman and head out of the room and for the stair well. It’ll be good to check out the smaller tech firms and see what they’re up to, and some of the more interesting projects might distract you from the simmering rage that old woman set off in you.

Okay, she wasn’t ‘old’. Just older than you.

She isn’t important. Finding a job and knowing about whatever is out there is important. As you climb the stairs you extend your awareness out toward the worrying mass in the ocean. It remains stationary, and somehow slightly larger.

Lines appear in your mind, forming the surface of the ocean in turbulence, the propellers of a ship ruined as a breached hull takes on water. As this awareness builds the world upward you sense panic from the lifeboats around what begins to look like a freighter torn asunder.

On the ship, you feel the weight of something twisting and distorting your senses. You feel it’s hunger and drive. Punching through this barrier the remainder of the ship is revealed to your senses as is the plated monstrosity gorging itself upon shipping containers of indeterminate cargo. Locking plates across it’s back and the crackle of electricity between it’s foreclaws. It is suffused with energy but is mostly just soaking it in, steel bends and crunches in its maw, but it pauses. Detecting by some unseen ability that it is being watched by something.

The survivors in the life boats are beneath it’s notice, no. It has found something else.

It looks up, and perceives you. It is confused, and then it bares its fangs in territorial caution and driving hunger.

The vision snaps away and you are standing on the second floor. Everyone going about their business and minor tech displays.

It saw you, it perceived something it wanted in you, and you could feel the nanomachines surging within it.

It is coming.

Welcome to the end of another thread.

You appear to have 6 points in the bank.

Would you like to let it sit?

Would you like to enhance a power?

Would you like to buy a new power?

Would you like to change a word?

Go about your usual discussion.
>>
Buying a new 1d6 power costs 4 points. Upgrading a 1d6 power to 2d6 costs 6 points. Upgrading 2d6 to 3d6 costs 8 points and so forth. Upgrading 3d6 to 4d6 costs 10 points. Upgrading 4d6 to 5d6 costs 12 points.

Changing a word or adding a word to a power or skill costs 1 - 2 points at my discretion.

You may also chose to reduce one power by 1 die to gain the points it would have cost to upgrade to the previously held level. You can only spend these points in a way thematically relevant to the reduction.

Points acquired in this fashion do not go into the bank and if they are unspent simply disappear.
