You are ELSA KONIG, a witch and a proud member of the German Airborne, or, more appropriately, the Fallschirmjagers.

Currently, you're keeping an eye on a helicopter crash site, where it seems that Russian-allied Polish militia are inspecting the wreck. Fortunately, they don't seem to notice your presence, or the fact that the helicopter had been carrying important cargo. You and your spotter Lisa post up in the treeline and keep a careful eye on them.

You see them sift through the wreckage, and yelling at each other in Polish. From your angle, you count about a dozen of them. Unfortunately, they begin to spread out in a search pattern. Looks like they weren't going to call it a day.

Fortunately, though, that meant they were spitting their numbers. Most of the militiamen were wandering away in the opposite direction. One pair remained at the crash site, while another pair was headed right towards you.

>Just hunker down and let them pass. They're not headed towards the stinger cache, anyways.

You and Lisa hit the dirt, shrouding your camouflage ponchos over yourselves. With targets this close, you set your rifle aside and instead pull out your Glock while Lisa readies her G11. Just in case.

The two militiamen march past, not even bothering to hide their presence. To a soldier that relied a lot on stealth and concealment to fight, watching these guys operate was almost an insult. However, your resist the urge to stab these amateurs in the neck and watch as they pass.

While Lisa keeps an eye on them, you return to watching the crash site. Again, nothing seems to be happening with the two militiamen there.

"Elsa." Lisa whispers as she taps your shoulder to get your attention. You turn to see Lisa pointing towards a pair of flashing lights. Truck headlights.

"Guess that's them." You mutter, quickly packing up your rifle. "Let's go."

The both of you roll over to the truck, where Alek and his compatriots were waiting.

"So where's this weapons stash?" Alek asks.

"About ten meters that way." You point. "You guys load it all up, and we'll cover you."

Alek nods and he and his buddies quickly but quietly dash off into the brush.

"I hope things go well." Lisa sighs.

"Ah, it's just a bunch of kids with guns." You roll your eyes. "Not like we're dealing with actual-"

And that's when you hear rotor blades. You look up to see a Hind hovering over the forest, a large searchlight jerking around as it homes in on the crash site. You look to see the two militiamen waving at it.

"Lisa, can you see if it's carrying troops?" You ask.

"I can't tell."

Now, this could either go one of two ways. Either this was a transport bringing in reinforcements, which was really, really BAD, or it was just a scout sent out to confirm the crash location. That was going to decide whether you had to shoot down the helicopter or not.

>Can't take the risk. Shoot down the helo in case it's carrying troops.

Our cover hasn't been blown yet, and we just need to make sure that the Stingers get loaded up; that won't happen if all of the Russian-allied militia come running back here.

You hold off on the trigger for just a second. You couldn't be sure, and you didn't want to blow your cover, so you wait. The Hind circles around in the air for a bit before it comes to a flat hover just a few meters away from the crash, and then what you really DIDN'T want to see happen happens in front of you.

Rappelling lines drop down from the Hind. That only meant on thing. It was dropping off troops.

Goddamnit. You aim your rifle upwards, right where the HInd's engine should be and fire. The XM109 roars and bucks in your arms as it belches out a 25mm round. Without magic, it would be enough to knock out a helo like the Hind. With a bit of extra magic juice, the Hind literally explodes in the air, and it drops to the ground.

"Lisa, did we get them all?" You ask.

"At least four made it down before you shot it down." Lisa shakes her head. "Didn't look like militia either, I think regulars or Spetsnaz."

Shiiiiit. Even if there were only four, that was four too many.

"Alek! How far are you?!" You yell.

"We're about halfway there!" Alek yells back. "Just buy us a few more minutes!"

"Okay!" You yell back. "Lisa, we're repositioning!"

"Got it!" Lisa nods.

One real great thing about having strikers was that you were EXTREMELY mobile. The Russians don't even realize you've moved and are still shooting at your old firing position by the time you set up.

However, at this point, the rest of the militiamen have been attracted by the attention and they begin running in as well. The Spetsnaz soldiers yell orders at them and they begin laying down suppressing fire into the forest as well.

You settle your sights over the nearest Spetsnaz soldier and fire. The man literally explodes in a puff of blood and smoke. With all the noise and confusion, none of the Soviets even realize what had happened until you take out the second Spetsnaz soldier.

At this point, the Soviets start pulling back, unsure of where they are getting shot from. Also, seeing their Russian overlords getting gunned down so easily did not do wonders for the Polish militiamen, as they're the first to break and run for the relative safety of the trees.

"Okay! We've got everything loaded!" You hear Alek yell over the gunfire. "Let's go!"

While you did have a desire to get the hell out of here, you also felt that you should finish off those last two Spetsnaz. They'd be able to rally the militiamen or call for reinforcements and pursue you if left alive.

>>
>>32212686
You aim down the sights again, trying to lead the next Spetsnaz in line. He's sprinting for the forest, so the shot is a bit tough. You fire, but you can already tell that your shot is off. It his low, striking the man in the knee instead instead of his chest. However, from the screams and the fact that his leg was completely obliterated, he was going to bleed out in seconds.

Unfortunately, before you can aim for the second Spetsnaz, your face is suddenly showered with dirt and dust as your shield materializes to repel it. Unfortunately, as good as you shields where, they couldn't protect your eardrums, and the loud ringing you hear was indicative that something just exploded in front of you. No doubt they had some sort of rocket or grenade launcher.

You feel a tug at your shoulder and you see Lisa furiously trying to pull you to your feet, shouting something you can't hear.

Understanding the gravity of the situation, you scramble to your feet and follow Lisa back to the truck. You see Alek waving at you two to get in the back.

One the one hand, you and Lisa could easily hide in the bed of the truck, but all that extra weight of you both and your strikers would no doubt weigh it down. Or, you could ride alongside with your strikers, which should easily keep up, but you'd be sacrificing stealth to do that...

"Go!" You yell, waving at them to move. You can't really hear yourself say the words, but you manage to get your point across. The truck roars forward and away from the crash site. You and Lisa follow close behind on your strikers. You follow the truck for about half an hour, before you finally come up to a narrow ravine, where the entrance is covered up with camo netting.

At least now your ears weren't ringing anymore.

"What is this place?" You ask.

"Just another safe haven." Alek says. "We use this place to store supplies and lay low after raids."

"I can see why." You whistle as you look around. "Concealed, yet defensible if you're found."

"Yeah, it's a nice home away from home."

"So then what do you do around here? I can't imagine waging a guerrilla war being easy." You say, taking a sip from your canteen.

"Ah, well, it's mostly small stuff. We hit convoys, ambush patrols, mostly just inflict a couple casualties or some property damage before retreating. Since the Russians have helos, they can deploy anywhere in Poland rather quickly."

"I see." You nod. "How many?"

"Huh?"

"How many Russians have you killed?" You ask.

"Um, it's not something I'm exactly proud of..."

"But I know you've been keeping count. People like us always do."

"Yeah..." Alek sighs. "Twenty seven confirmed kills. Another thirteen probable."

"Dang." You whistle. "Not bad."

"Oh?" You crane your head back. "What does the good Captain want us to do now?"

"The Captain says he and his men are already in position to attack the airfield, but security is heavier than expected. He wants us to create a distraction to draw them out of the base."

"Huh, of course. We get stuck with chores while all the boys get to do the fun stuff." You roll your eyes. "Alek, do you and your guys want raise some hell?"

"Yeah, and I know some good places we can hit." Alek grins. "Especially now that we've got these stingers to take down their Hinds."

"What have you got?"

"Well..." Alek rolls out a map. "There's a nearby town here that has a GRU field office, where their secret police works out of. Idiots set it up in direct line of sight from the treeline, so we can easily it. Another is a supply dump where they keep a lot of fuel and munitions. Not heavily guarded, but the area is pretty open. And third, there's a Russian witch that flies around these parts. We call her the Black Bat. She patrols the area, and it's rumored she behind a LOT of disappearances. She flies the exact same patrol route every night, and there's one leg of it that takes her over some really hilly and rocky terrain. Perfect for an ambush."

"It's always the hardest ones, isn't it?" Lisa sighs.

"Hey, they want us to raise a shitstorm? Then we give them one. I think a downed witch fulfills that."

"We'll make preparations." Alek nods.

"Yeah, and be sure to bring a bunch of those Stingers, too."

About an hour later, you, Lisa, and Alek's cell are hiding among some hills, keeping a keen eye out at the night sky. According to Alek, the Black Bat was due to come by any minute. While you've set up your rifle, Alek and his fellow fighters have armed themselves with Stingers, which you and Lisa gave a quick crash course on how to fire. They were there to act as backup in case you missed your first shot. You hope it won't come to that, though.

"So... what does she do out here, anyways?" You whisper to Alek.

"Intimidation, mostly." Alek says.

"Well, let's solve that." You grin.

"Contact!" Lisa hisses. "Coming in from the southeast. About 3 kilometers away and coming in slow."

You sight in on your rifle and can see a small, dark blob in the night sky, slowly meandering its way to your location. That had to be the Black Bat.

"Fire when ready." Lisa says.

Your trigger finger twitches. You can try engaging the Black Bat at your maximum range, to minimize her chances of spotting you. However, that mean much more variables that could spoil your shot, and the distance could also reduce your stopping power. On the other hand, if you let her get closer, she might spot the ambush and everything would be screwed up.

"Steady..." You say to nobody in particular as you wait for the Black Bat to come closer. You were trusting your skills of concealment to see you through this moment.

You see the black blob grow larger and larger, up until if finally becomes recognizable as vaguely human.

"1000 meters." Lisa warns.

Just a little closer...

"900."

A little more...

"800!" Lisa hisses.

That should be close enough. Your center your crosshairs just above your target, exhale, and fire.

Your rifle report echoes throughout the hills. Even if Black Bat saw the flash, there was no way she could react in time to dodge the bullet. You see a flare of light as your shell strikes her shield.

"Good hit! Good hit!" Lisa says happily. "She's going down!"

You pull away from the scope and see the small blob plummeting towards the ground. There's a brief flash of light as it impacts, no doubt a last second shield to protect herself from the fall.

"Let's go, Lisa!" You grin. "Alek with me. Everybody else, you and your guys keep an eye out for reinforcements!"

Covering 800 meters in your strikers is no problem. However, it is a bit of a problem for Alek, who still has to cover the distance by foot. While you wait for him to catch up, you speed forward to where the Black Bat crashed.

(cont)
>>
>>32215009
And, it was pretty brutal. From what you can see, your shot punched her shield, but only just barely. Your 25mm shell kept going, and embedded itself in her chest, but didn't have the moment to go all the way through, leaving an ugly, shallow wound on her chest. Her strikers were smashed to pieces by the impact, and you could tell even in the dark that both legs were broken.

Lisa secures the Black Bat's AK-74 while you check her vitals. There was still a pulse, but it was fairly weak. Still alive, if only barely.

Suddenly, the Russian witch's eyes snap open and her arms shoots out to grab yours in a iron, vice like grip.

"HEY!" You yell, pulling out your Glock with your other hand. "Don't fucking try it."

You're not sure if the witch could understand your words, but the "gun in your face" gesture was universal.

The Black Bat then grumbles something in Russian and releases your hand. You quickly pull away while LIsa keeps the Russian witch under guard.

"Hey, did I miss anything!" Alek huffs as he finally catches up.

"Nothing much." You say, and toss the Black Bat a spare radio. "Tell her to call for help.

<Use that radio to call for help, Comrade.> Alek says to the witch in Russian. <Tell them we are waiting for them.>

The Black Bat fires off a series of words in rapid succession before cutting off the radio.

"Are they coming?" You ask Alek.

"Oh yeah." He nods as he listens in on the Russian channels. "They are sending the cavalry."

"What do we do with her?" Lisa asks, her gun still trained on the Black Bat.

>She served her purpose. Plus, she isn't going to live with wounds like that, anyways.

Ask her what sort of forces we can expect to come for her.

Cooperation might earn her a sedative. The pain has got to be ridiculous.

This is slav country. They're bound to have some white lightning stashed somewhere.
>>

What? Did they import that from Franklin county? Moonshine in Slav is called Šnops.
>>
>>32215024
"I guess we can take her with us." You say. "The Captain's gonna shit a brick when he sees we captured a witch."

"Are you sure? We're not really equipped properly to handle something like that...." Lisa frowns."

"Aw, come on, what's gonna happen? It's not like she's going anywhere." You say. "Now help me get her up."

As you and Lisa close in, the Black Bat strikes. It happens so fast, you almost don't even catch it. How the hell could she move so fast with injuries like that?

Lisa manages to catch it and tries to back away, but it's too late, The Black Bat lunges forward at your spotter, knife drawn. You freeze in place, unable to do anything as the Russian witch stabs the knife right into Lisa's right striker. Your partner's shriek of pain could only mean that the blade had actually penetrated her striker and stabbed into her leg.

There was then a loud CRACK and the Black Bat drops at Lisa's feet, a chunk of her skull missing.

"N-nice shot, Alek." You blink as your body finally begins to respond again.

"Can't miss this close." Alek says without a hint of sympathy or emotion.

"Why?" You blink. "In her condition, she'd have no chance-"

"Fight or die. That's how all Russian Academy witches are taught to fight." Alek grunts. "You're lucky your friend only got wounded."

"Oh shit, Lisa!" You gasp, rushing over. "Are you okay?"

"Y-yeah." Lisa whimpers. "It's not as bad as it looks. My striker took most of the hit. I don't suggest pulling it out, though."

"Are you still operational?" You ask.

"Yeah, more or less." Lisa nods.

>>

>>
>>32215283
"NOPE, you're sitting this one out, Lisa." You tut. "Head back to the safehouse and get that wound looked at. I mean it."

"But-"

"Don't 'but' me, Lisa! I don't want to have you bleeding out out here! I don't need that on my conscience! I already screwed up once!"

"O-OKay." Lisa nods reluctantly. "Just... be careful, okay?"

Lisa then speeds away. You hope you made the right call this time.

"God, I'm so stupid." You mutter.

"Hey, don't beat yourself up about it." Alek says. "Russians are a crazy lot that can't be bargained with>"

"Heh, funny coming from-"

"Don't even start."

However, before you can banter any further, your conversation is interrupted by the thumping of distant rotor blades. Looks like those reinforcements were on the way.

"Shit! Get into position!" You hiss.

The both of you scurry for cover as the first wave of Hinds rolls in.

Not yet.

>Wait for them to fully commit so you can inflict maximum damage.
uhh, the troops are in the choppers, hitting them in the air IS inflicting max damage, but fuck it
>>
>>32215469
"Everybody! Fire at will!" You yell.

A trio of Stinger missiles then lance out from the ground. The first wave of Hinds are caught completely by surprise and don't even last a fraction of a second, falling out of the sky like stones.

However, now that they know what's up, the next wave of Hinds pop flares and start showering the area with rocket fire. Fortunately, you instructed the Resistance fighters to reposition the moment they fired their missiles. MANPADS weren't exactly the most subtle of weapons, after all.

Father behind, you see another wave of helos. This time a couple of Hinds and a few heavy transports. You nail one of the second wave helos in the cockpit, causing it to nosedive into the ground. You see the transport helos behind in the third wave immediately drop to the ground, no doubt to disgorge their troops rather then getting shot down while still full.

The last two Hinds in the second wave go down. However, you're still being showered with rocket fire from the third wave. In addition, you hear the telltale whistle of incoming artillery fire.

>Time to get the hell out of here.
>Keep them tied down for a just little bit longer. Every minute counts.

You know what would be even better. Hitting the Gru station on the same night.
>>
>>32215708
All right, you stayed here long enough.

"Alek! Tell your guys we're getting out of here!" You yell.

"Okay! Just give me a second!" Alek says as he dashes off in the wrong direction.

"Alek! ALEK!" You scream as artillery shells start falling down. It's inaccurate, since they don't have a clear idea where you are, but they will, eventually. Scowling, you power up your strikers and roll off towards the fallback point, hoping that Alek can catch up.

By the time you reach the safehouse, you see Lisa, now out of her strikers and getting her leg wound treated, high thigh wrapped tightly in bandages. The rest of Alek's cell was also present, celebrating and drinking, and they had reason to. In just one night, they caused more damage to the Russians than they ever did since the war began.

"Elsa, where's Alek?" Lisa asks.

"He said he'd catch up." You frown. "He's not back yet?"

"No."

You were almost starting to worry about him when you are startled by a voice behind. you.

"Hey guys, sorry I'm late."

"Alek!" You turn to see the the resistance fighter trudging up to the safehouse, a burlap sack in his hand.

"Alek, what's in the bag...?" You raise an eyebrow, already suspecting the answer.

"Ah, well, considering the Black Bat is a special target, I thought we'd uh, get some evidence of the kill, if you know what I mean." Alek says nervously.

"I guess that's understandable." You nod. You really had no love for Russians, either. "I'm sure it'll really piss off the Russians, though."

"I don't know, they consider their Academy witches to be more like equipment than actual people." Alek shrugs.

"Better put that away before Lisa asks about it." You whisper. "I don't think she'd take it as well."

"Yeah, good idea." Alek nods.

With that, all you can do is wait. Since you're still on mission, you can't afford to drink or goof off with the other Resistance members. Instead, you and Lisa wait for any updates from the Captain.

Sure enough, about two hours later, you receive a radio call reporting mission accomplished. The Flankers were destroyed and the unit managed to get away with minimal casualties thanks to your distraction. With the job done, they decide to route to the safe house in order to pick you up.

"It's been fun." You say as you see two familiar CH-53s approaching from the sky.

"Yeah, I guess it has been." Alek smiles.

"Hey, I know this sounds crazy, but why don't you come with us?" You ask. "I mean, I can see you're really good. I think you'd make a great Fallschirmjager!"

"That's tempting." Alek chuckles. "But it doesn't seem right. My place is here, fighting for my home country. I'm sure you understand."

"Yeah, I guess I do." You sigh, oddly feeling very dejected.

"Anyways, next time you end up in Poland, you know where to find me!" Alek laughs.

"Yeah, I guess I do." You nod. "You take care of yourself."

"I will. Stay safe."

With that, you help Lisa into the CH-53 before climbing in yourself.

"Good job, girls." The Captain nods. "The weapons have been delivered, the Flankers are destroyed, and we killed a whole bunch of Russians. That's a mission accomplished if I've ever heard of one."

"Good to know, sir." You sigh, suddenly feeling very tired.

"Don't relax just yet." The Captain warns. "We may have won this battle, but the war is far from over."

"Yeah yeah, I know." You nod. It was a odd thing. Just they day before, you couldn't wait to get into the war and do your part. But now, after that mission... you really want it to end as quickly as possible.

Weird, what could make your thinking change like that?

Ah fuck it, you're probably just tired. Taking off your helmet, you lay you head down on Lisa's breasts without asking her permission and quickly doze off despite her embarrassed protests.

just because they train in that particular specialization does not mean they go into every single battle from 30,000 ft, they are light infantry at their core

The post-Cold War German army also focused a lot on their heliborne role, which is how they were inserted in the earlier thread. A bit out of time frame here, but whatever.
