You glance at the four other remaining Culexus of your rank. While you're not particularly close to them - or at least, as close to them as you are with Cavefish - you've trained and worked enough with them to know that they're just as competent as any Culexus trained by Malal herself.

They'd been in the same trainee batch as you, and while you went your seperate ways as soon as you donned the hardsuit you'd be wearing for most of your pitifully-short career, you have no doubt that Team Alondight will be served just as well even without your presence.

...Maybe even better, if you're not there to fuck things up for them. You've been on a roll with that.
>>
>>32218269

"Team Mordred, then." Alondight grins after you tell her of your decision, with Cavefish whooping in celebration. "Yes, I realize she doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but she is a Black Templar, besides a Pendragon. She deserves to wear the cross and the armor as much as any of us - perhaps even more so."

She shrugs her pauldroned shoulders. "If she strays or falters, simply remind her of her vows, and how she'll be shaming the Pendragon name for centuries. If you like, slap her around a bit for emphasis, that usually does the trick."

"...Reminding her of her duty should be enough," Enyo cuts in after a moment, glancing sidelong at Alondight, who simply pouts. "The Princess is no coward, nor is she weak. This is simply a matter of inexperience--"

"Enyo's just saying that because she oversaw Pendragon's training personally." The High Marshal smirks. "What did you call her? The Second Coming of Swordmaster Paladin Victoria? Which, if memory serves me correctly, betrayed her vows to go gallivanting with--"

"Miss Victoria's legend remains intact despite her unfortunate and ill-advised decision," Enyo glares at Alondight. "I have no doubt the Princess will keep true to her vows as duty demands." She clenches her one remaining fist in a snarl of protesting servos, before crashing it against her dented breastplate in a dismissive salute. "High Marshal. Miss Yuma."

"...Ngh. My fault. I shouldn't have done that." Alondight grimaces as all three of you watch the raven-haired Marshal stomp off to where Mordred is being attended to. "It's just...well, nevermind. This kind of place, it really brings out the worst out of you, huh?"

Really? You didn't notice. It's not like you're all trapped in a bloody, skull-infested hell with the sky on fire, and the cackling, embodiment of rage and despair lounging in a throne at the very middle.

[1/2]
>>
>>32218289

"Hah! It's almost like Malal's right here with us, instead of...wherever she is at the moment." The High Marshal chuckles. "In any case, if you have any questions, ask them right now, as I'm afraid all the talking we'll be doing later is either praying for a quick death or cursing the Archenemy to a hell we're already in. Otherwise, go to Enyo and get ready, Emperor's Champion. We make to rid the world of Walpurgisnacht, and the Ninth Officio's Warmaster."

We aren't going to have time to talk with Mordred; the "no more questions" implies that we'll go straight into the fight.
And Alondight is her leader, and she's the one who suggested the plan. She knows enough about the attack to tell us it's particulars if we ask.

No more questions, you tell her. You've done enough talking to last you the rest of your lifetime - or what's left of it.

Alondight's smile fades for a moment. "...Look, accepting the inevitable is all well and good, and gallows humor is good for the soul about to be flayed by a thousand demons throughout eternity - but sometimes even a bit of optimism is warranted in this situation, you realize?" Her blood-smeared face lights up in yet another grin, before she pats your shoulder with a cruelly-clawed hand. "Go with the First Knight's will, Emperor's Champion. Our hope lies with you, Miss Cavefish, and Mordred's ability to hold her sword up even if she can't hold her piss in."

...Really? She's going to say that, right after she told you to be optimistic? It's like she's actively trying to be annoying, now.

"Gets right into your skin, doesn't it? Like fleshmetal claws?" Alondight cackles, before waving you off with those clawed hands of hers. "Go on, Miss Yuma. We'll make something out of this debacle yet."

And so you do, but not after Cavefish rushing forward and giving the diminutive High Marshal a bear hug of her own, lifting her off her wheels and into the air. It's only until after she started shrieking and flailing that you and your best friend finally make for Enyo - and of course, Mordred, the rather disgraced knight herself looking up sullenly at your approach. The defeated, quitely-despairing look on her face something you've grown quite familiar with in the last few hours of your life.

"Miss Yuma. Miss Cavefish." Enyo nods curtly as you come to a stop in the midst of ragged, wounded Templars. "You are ready for this endeavor? Did the High Marshal make your duties clear?"

You nod. She couldn't have made it any clearer. And yes, you're ready. Cavefish - well, she's Cavefish. And even with her vox muted, you can tell she's giggling every time she's being addressed as 'Miss'.

"Very well. Vivian, please give Miss Yuma and Miss Cavefish any ammunition we can spare, and rations that the heat hasn't spoiled already." A white-haired - and strangely, white-armored - Knight stands up from her kneeling position beside Mordred, nodding. "Princess? Your vanguard is here."

Silence, as Mordred simply stares at you, her piercing green eyes seemingly trying to bore a hole through your visor. Not making a move to rise from the small cairn of skulls she'd planted her armored ass onto.

"Princess." Enyo says the ridiculously-dainty title with as much venom as it is humanly possible to cram into such a polite speaking voice.

No answer, still.

"Mordred Pendragon--"

"I heard you, Marshal," The blonde knight spits, her voice dead and hollow. "I'm not deaf. And I'm not blind, either - I see my vanguard, or a mockery of one. It seems Miss Alondight is really determined to kill me off - sending me on a suicide mission with a gorilla and a child in....in gimp suits!"

She's no longer hugging her sword to her chest, now holding it across her lap - but her hands are still shaking. "Does she really think this is going to work? Or has she eaten so much of her macaroons that they've replaced what's left of her functioning brain?"

"This is the High Marshal's plan, and we are to follow it." Enyo growls. "And for the last time, they're macarons. Now stand up and prepare to move out with them, we don't have much time--"

"Don't...don't think you can talk like that to me, Marshal. Not now. Not here." Mordred matches the one-armed Marshal growl for growl, venom for venom, but everyone hears the tremor in her voice, the brittleness on the edge of breaking. "You." She points an armored finger at you, eyes wide. "You're the one that jeopardized this entire mission, aren't you? We all heard it. We all heard Miss Malal denounce you on the vox, it's all your fault--"

"Princess--"

[2/3]
>>
>>32219108

"--not only that, you show up conveniently uninjured, TWO hours after we started dying--"

"PRINCESS."

"--and still you show your face, still wearing the cross of the Emperor's Champion?" Mordred had risen to her feet at the middle of her tirade, unsheathing her sword and pointing it at you with a shaky flourish. "The High Marshal may have been quick to disregard Miss Malal's judgment but I am not! She may have been quick to reward you with that cross but I deem you unfit for it!"

...Oh boy. This is gonna be soooo fun.

[]This isn't the time. You have Walpurgisnacht to kill. Can she be sanctimoniously hypocritical until AFTER you're all dead?
[]Let Enyo handle this one. Mordred's got her own issues, and you're tired of being reminded of yours.

You shake your helmeted head here, before pushing the point of the blade away from your face with a single finger. Is this really the time? Seriously? During the end of the fucking world, she's going to get sanctimonious on you now?

Can't she wait until after you're all dead, or something? You'd be happy to listen to her complaints, then, you say as you cross your arms over your own breastplate. Either way, you didn't take her for someone so eager to drag her family name into the mud, making a giant fuss like this.

"You--" Mordred all but shrieks in fury, moving to charge - but even before she could get her sword clear enough to hack your head off your shoulders, even before you could blink-click a targeting reticule over Mordred and force her to empty her stomach out into the river of blood everyone is standing ass-deep in - Cavefish had already moved, grabbing the hysterical Knight in a bear hug, much like she did with you and the High Marshal. With her arms pinned firmly to her side and lifted up into the air, all she can do is shriek, scream and kick - things that your best friend is good at ignoring, and enduring.

"UNHAND ME, YOU BUFFOON! Y-YOU LEATHER GORILLA! LET ME DOWN, RIGHT THIS INSTANT, OR MY SISTER WILL HEAR OF THIS--"

"I think," Cavefish booms, over Mordred's shrieked cursing. "...she just needs a hug! A really big one!"

"LET ME GO, I SAID! I AM A HIGH-RANKING MEMBER OF THE BLACK TEMPLARS, AND I DEMAND YOU TO--" CRACK. "O-OWW!"

"Or a spanking!" Your best friend continues, now having thrown Mordred over her shoulder, and using the oversized, iron length of Mustakrakish as a whipping rod for the Princess' armored posterior.

She gives the struggling Pendragon another smack, eliciting another cry of pain - but less cursing, this time. "It's working! Yuma-chan, it's working!"

[1/2]
>>
>>32219681

...Goddamit, Cavefish! You can't just spank a Princess like that! Now you'll have to apologize to Enyo and the rest of the Knights, for humiliating one of their members here!

You turn to the Marshal, a half-hearted apology on your lips, before you realize that she - along with the rest of the Templars - are actually smiling as they watch. Some looking on with amusement, others with satisfaction.

"We...never really disciplined her after Miss Erebus left us, haven't we?" One of the knights murmur, the rest nodding in agreement.

"Now that it's here, it's kind of the first thing you'd think about, dealing with spoiled brats? Except we never even thought of it with her." Murmurs another, scratching armored fingers across a scarred cheek. "Funny, that."

You blink at this conversation, before shaking your head again. ...Foreigners.

After a few more moments of seeing Cavefish make merry on Mordred's plate-armored bottom - the Pendragon finally growing limp and quiet on your best friend's shoulder - it's here that Enyo turns to you. "As amusing as that was, I am sure that the High Marshal would like us to get moving soon. Do you have everything you require, Miss Yuma?"

...They've already given you enough, it looks like. Cavefish has enough spare rounds for Mustakrakish that she could fire that loud, blasted thing for days on end, and the supplies should prove handy in case you ever get the taste of blood out of your mouth.

[2/3]
>>
>>32219690

"I see. Then you have everything you need." Enyo nods, before glancing back at Alondight, who seems to be performing a few practice swings with her oversized gladius. "Um. I realize this isn't the time, but may I ask you a small favor? You have granted us many boons already, to be sure, besides being the Emperor's Champion in this Crusade and bringing composure back to the Princess. If you feel that my asking is excessive enough, then I will speak of it no more."

[]Refuse. You're all going to die anyway, and you don't exactly have a great track record for granting requests at the moment.

You look up at the fervent expression on Enyo's face - the most emotion she'd displayed ever since you met her. While your kneejerk reaction here is to refuse - what good's another favor going to do her, when everyone is going to fucking die? - you also realize the other side of that argument.

What's so bad about granting another favor? Yes, you may well be heading towards a complete wipeout here, but if you could at least help someone like Enyo feel a bit better about the entire thing, then what's the harm? It's no skin off your nose. And besides, what's another chance at disappointing someone else other than Malal?

So you nod at the Marshal. Sure, you can do her a solid. What's she need?

"It concerns the High Marshal." Enyo leans down a bit closer to you, her armor's tortured servo joints hissing as she does so. "Once this is all over, and should you survive along with the High Marshal - can you tell her that I'd always admired her for her..." It's here that the Templar's own bloodstained cheeks go red. "Um, well, her--"

Her wheels? You volunteer, trying to keep your face straight behind your helmet's faceplate.

"...No, but close." Enyo shakes her head. "Tell her I've always admired her body, and how she fights as a warrior. I've also grown to admire her childish, petty personality and her unreasonable temper - as well as her abominable taste for sweets and her dreadful habit of procrastination."

She reaches out to grasp your hand. "Please, it is important that she knows. I admit that I should have confessed my feelings much, much earlier, but..." A sigh of deep, longing regret leaves her lips, and you wonder if the Marshal is actually just as simple and honest as Cavefish is, or totally straight up fucking with you.

I still wonder why people actualy assume that the guys in the Deagle are the same as the guys in the mirror.

In the barrier we had:
>Moemura
>Murderface
>BlackrockHomu
>Ribbonhomu

In the Mirrors we have:
>Moemura who was infatuated with Sayaka not Madoka
>BlackRockHomu
>Hardened Timetraveler Homura
>Empty space

Clearly they are not the same as the ones Midori encountered in the barrier.

The fourth Mirror is empty because we are Homucifer and Homucifer sealed herself inside of Chiaki because of reasons.

Remember the voice Yuma heard before she dropped out of teleportation, remember what the voice said and why we lost two hours in the warp. Its because yuma pissed off Homucifer hiding deep inside Girl A.

The twist is that we are Magical Girl Satan. We are quite literally worse than Hitler.

"Will you do this? For me?" She clasps your gloved hand between two armored ones, her touch gentle, almost endearingly so. This would've made for a really touching scene, really, if it hadn't been for her posthumous message to Alondight.

You look up at Enyo for a long while, before blinking behind your visor and then pointing at Alondight. You...alright, you personally think it's really cute, and you'll deliver her final message even if you have to do it from beyond the grave - but why can't Enyo tell Alondight herself, right NOW? She's barely five meters away, and it'll take no more than five seconds! Ten if she elaborates!

Enyo looks wretched here. "It may look that simple, and if it truly was, then I'd have done it myself." She shakes her head. "But I fear that it is not the case at all. If I confess my feelings to the High Marshal now, she would be distracted from her main duties as High Marshal. She would be distracted from commanding, from fighting - from surviving."

She pauses here to look back at Alondight, and you follow her gaze to see the blonde carefully scratching her ass with the tip of a claw. "See? Utterly focused. I dare not even speak to her for too long, else I say something that sets her on the path to ruin."

...Jesus. Fine. Fine, you'll do it. You think her reasoning's bullshit, but you'll do it.

Enyo's eyes go wide here. "Really? Truly? Miss Yuma, I am in debt to you--"

ON the condition that if she survives, too, then she tells Alondight herself.

"..." Enyo blinks at this, before nodding after a few short moments. She squeezes your hand again with her one remaining own. "Very well. If I do survive, then I release you from your bond and perform the boon myself. This I swear on this Crusade and on my life."

Christ, she didn't need to resort to something like th at. A pinky promise would've done fine.

But sure, whatever. That's settled. ...Can you go now?

The raven-haired Marshal of the Black Templar nods, smiling. "March with courage and honor, Chitose Yuma, Emperor's Champion of the Walpurgisnacht Crusade." She bangs her one remaining fist against her chest plate, performing that oft-repeated salute. "Goodbye, and thank you for accepting this lowly Knight's unreasonable dying wish."

...Yeah. Fine.

For fuck's sake, are all Black Templars this melodramatic? Because--

A bellowing roar - a sudden crushing gust of wind - the sound of giant leathery wings flapping - and both you and Enyo turn just in time to see a behemoth made out of hate and fire and rage drop down from the sky and onto the ground with a force comparable to an earthquake. A literal tidal wave of blood and skulls washing outward from the point of impact, sloshing against your thighs, soaking capes and coating armor. The daemon's massive cloven feet crushing everything they land on - skull, rock, armor, flesh, bone, Black Templar...and Culexus.

One of the four that you've left with Alondight leaves her mortis-cry ringing in your ears as you feel her snap out of the silent communion that all nearby Culexus naturally share with each other. Her empty helmet - the only thing left intact in her murder - bounces away from the rest of her ruined, crushed form to roll across the blood-soaked earth and stop at your feet.

No, it's not empty.

It's not empty at all.

One look and you can still see the wax-yellow cross section of a larynx, the pinked ivory white of the spinal column here, and--

"Go," Enyo snarls, now pushing you away, pushing you hard enough that you all but crash into Cavefish. "We'll deal with this! Go to your designated zone and await further orders! The High Marshal will contact you by vox when everything is ready!"

But--

[2/3]
>>
>>32221060

"GO!" The Marshal turns away from you without a word, her mechanical arm shifting, gears crunching, servos snarling - and it's here that two long, brutally-toothed chainsaw blades slash out of her wrist, each one following the line of her lower arm. Each one snarling loud enough to overwhelm the hungry growlings of the daemon itself. "Knights of the Walpurgisnacht Crusade, CHARGE!"

You could only watch as Enyo - and the rest of the remaining Black Templars - charge at the beast that had dropped in unannounced, their blades out and their bloodthirst up. It's only after Cavefish starts to pull you away that you find yourself able to move, then turn, then follow her as your best friend breaks into a run (with the Princess still being carried over one shoulder). You run, you keep running, and you don't look back. Not even when Mordred herself started to cry.

This is your bed, you murmur to yourself breathlessly. You made it, now you have to sleep in it.

After what felt like an eternity of running - although your helmet's chronometer only registered ten minutes since the daemon popped up - the two of you finally come to a stop, underneath the still-burning sky, and behind what looks like a broken-down monument of some winged goddess with a sick smile.

It's here that you finally look back - and you can only make out what looks like some sort of giant shadow flicking this way and that in the distance, with smaller shadows leaping up on it and making tiny flashbulb explosions erupt on their bigger, nastier prey.

"Only a bit more left to go until our designated zone," Cavefish remarks, and you glance towards the throne in the middle of this hell. ...She's correct. A bit more of a walk and you'd be right behind the throne. Although, you'll definitely have to stealth it up at this part of the trip.

[3/4]
>>
>>32221076

"My...my sisters..." A helpless, mewling sound suddenly comes out of nowhere, and it takes you and Cavefish a few minutes to realize that it's coming from Mordred. "My sisters never said it would be like this. They...they told me this would all be so...heroic. They told me I'd be a hero." She shakes her head. "They never said anything about seeing your comrades get torn apart and eaten and killed by things that shouldn't be..."

How do you respond?

Is that what she's looking for? Heroism? You shake your head as both you and Cavefish now begin to stalk forward a bit more carefully among the skulls and the blood and the ruins, weapons gripped in free hands while focusing on attracting the least bit of attention possible.

Technically, isn't what you're doing right now heroic? Everyone in this crusade is going to die saving the entire world. That's around forty or fifty lives given to save billions. What can possibly be more heroic than that?

"N-not this kind...!" Mordred struggles feebly against Cavefish's grip. "We are the Black Templars! We are the blade of the Blessed Lady, the physical manifestation of the First Knight's justice! We're not..." She chokes back a sob. "We're supposed to all come home safely! Wounded, perhaps, but not...not DEAD! Not killed without being given to even draw their sword, or slaughtered wholesale like cattle, reduced to nothing more than meat and carrion to be fought over by horned, winged abominations!"

Both you and Cavefish glance at each other, and you shrug. Well, this is reality, you tell her. Heroes will always be baptized in the blood of their friends and foes alike. Heroic tales and sagas usually leave the bit about the friends out, unless they're going for a revenge sequel with bigger CGI budgets.

"..." Mordred is silent for a few moments, before she finally speaks. When she does, all the fire and hatred is drained out of her voice, leaving behind a disconsolate, disturbed tone.

"Please, let me down. I won't...I'll follow you. I'll follow the plan. Just please, let me stand and fight on my own two feet, instead of being carried like an invalid not worthy of trust."

Cavefish looks to you for approval, and you quickly give it. Soon, Mordred is walking between the both of you, shielded from sight by your overlapping Culexus fields.

>>
>>32222206

Her sword in her hands, although she couldn't be less combat ready than she tried, with the tip of the sword sinking into the blood pool sloshing around your ankles and tracing a furrow as she walked.

...Not really confidence-inspiring indeed. Still, this is what you've got to work with.

You clear your throat, before deciding to get to the meat of all this. Namely, this Sword of Promised Victory you're supposed to help Mordred pull off. How does it work, and how fast can she charge it?

Mordred seems to consider the question carefully, before nodding. "It...it is a technique passed down from contracted Pendragon to Pendragon. A way for us to harness the blessing given to us by the Blessed Lady and the First Knight to devastating effect." She lifts up her bloodstained sword into the air, gazing into its mirror-like surface. "The ultimate killing technique. Or so my sisters are quick to boast." This makes her smile, if only slightly.

She places an armored hand on the blade. "By focusing and channeling myself through the sword in my hand, I accrue enough energy to release it in a killing wave of light and destruction. It travels in a straight line, and knows no friend or foe or Witch, only that it destroys. When I charge it fully and unleash it, it would be...prudent for you two to stay behind me."

...That sounds good. Hopefully, it should be enough to take Kharn out permanently, and end this living nightmare.

How fast can she charge it, then? Or, loosely translated - how long do you have to tank the inevitable incoming swarm before she can pull off this Sword thing?

"Um..." It's here that Mordred goes crimson. "Five...five minutes. I am training to get it down to a more respectable level, but that is the best I can manage, owing to the situation at hand." She lowers her head, contrite, or maybe embarrassed. You're putting money on the latter, anyway.

[2/3]

>It travels in a straight line, and knows no friend or foe or Witch, only that it destroys. When I charge it fully and unleash it, it would be...prudent for you two to stay behind me."

\Five minutes. That's...not bad at all. It's not the thirty-second wait you were asking for, but waiting five minutes more until the world is saved has a bit of a ring to it.

What happens after the five minutes?

"Everything in the path of my blade is dead." Mordred says simply. "Even an abomination like Kharn."

Sounds like a party, then. With luck, it'll actually work and help clean up the mess you started.

After a few more minutes of stalking - and wondering if you'll ever be able to apologize to Malal properly for everything you've done - Team Mordred finally reaches its designated zone, a quarter kilometer away from the back of the Kharn-thing's throne. You notify Team Alondight through the vox that you've arrived - and the High Marshal herself responds, albeit breathlessly.

"Good. We'll be ready in five minutes, Miss Yuma. When you hear us roar, signal Mordred and she'll know what to do." A moment's static. "Please protect her until she can use the Sword of the Promised Victory, and when she does, hold her safe. We will come for you then, as quickly as we can." A click, and the High Marshal's connection severs itself - preventing you from calling her a liar.

Despite how everyone's been trying to be upbeat, this is the kind of mission where everyone dies.

The only rescue operation that's going to happen is to figure out which bits go in which bodybag, and then which bodybag goes into which coffin.

"This is it, isn't it?" Cavefish murmurs beside you. For once, not sounding like she's hopped up on sugar, or about to hug someone to death. "We're not going to come back after this, are we, Yuma-chan?"

How do you respond?

I think she'd be fairly OK with dying, except for Haruka.

But as a Culexus, its possible she has an inkling she may not die today and thats what the "miss you" thing is suggesting.

oh god this quest will literally burn when that happens.
it also doesn't help most of the normal madoka cast seems to each have a golden weapon.
we know of ours, then mami has one, sayakas weird rocket sword thing may also be one because the way she talked about it could be a lie, and i don't know bout kyouko, especially since there hasn't been all that much backstory with her all this quest.
then ods are highly likely oriko has a bunch of them, while being possessed by ahriman who may be trying to find a way to use them to res herself.
and who knows from there.

Kyoko has a gold spear, and Sayaka was given the katana first. She turned it down.

Chiaki may not be completely sure where it came from, but we the players are. It's awesome but non-magical.

Kyouko's golden spear was fake, wasn't it? She just painted it gold to look cool.
>>
>>32223299
I don't think Blueberry Cheesecake Brownie would've taken as much damage as it from the chainaxes during our sparring match if it were a Golden Weapon. Plus, Sayaka turned down a Golden Weapon in her 8th Officio flashback, which went to Kirika instead.

Kyouko's the most normal in this universe out of the PMMM cast, I doubt she has a Golden Weapon. Plus, she painted her spear gold after we got the DEagle, and we chewed her out about Golden Weapons when we found out.

What's this, now? You're supposed to be the seriously-annoying miseryguts of this outfit. You grin at Cavefish from behind your faceplate and punch her on her arm - or just below her elbow, because that's what you can reach without going on tiptoe. Is she trying to make you redundant, or something?

"What?" Cavefish blinks, before shaking her head. "O-of course not. It's just...y'know..."

You shake your head, and punch her again. It'll be fine, you tell her. You just need to make sure Pendragon does her job, and there's no easier task for a Culexus than to stand around looking important while the other ranks do the heavy lifting. And if everything goes to plan, then the both of you'll be back slurping cheap ramen at Hanegawa's before the either of you know it.

Your best friend giggles here. "Fine, fine. Geez, you try to be serious for once in your life!" She shakes her helmeted head, before tugging on the straps of her steel-studded gloves. "...It'll hurt, though, right? Like, really bad?"

You glance at Mordred, whose eyes are already closed as she mouths some incantation, amber witch-lightning crackling around and along the length of her sword.

Yeah. You're pretty sure it will, you tell Cavefish. It'll hurt a lot.

And it's here that you finally step in close to her and give your best friend a hug.

"I'll miss you, Cavefish," You murmur into a private vox channel with her, letting your real voice seep through unmodified. You feel her stiffen at this, then hear her choke out a sob of her own.

"...I'll miss you too, Yuma-chan."

The call came moments later, heralded by the roar of the loudest, angriest motorcycle engine in the world - which is then also followed by the sound of a giant demonic Witch rising off her throne and walking confidently forward on bladed feet.

Her two massive weapons coming alive in her hands - a black blade with golden god-runes down its length, and a motorized chainaxe the side of a skyscraper.

"Now." Just one word. One word, uttered with such hate, with such fervor, and with such desperation. Growled from the throat of the High Marshal herself, moments after screaming a challenge to the Warmaster of the Ninth Officio.

And so Mordred began to accrue lethality, or so she put it. The Sword of Promised Victory. ETA five minutes. Five minutes too long to gather energy into a sword just so she can fling it out in a burning, searing beam.

And at the same time, both you and Cavefish disengaged the limiters of your suits - enabling full, focused output, ready to disintegrate anything about to attack with a focused blast of anti-magic. Malal's Gift.

You couldn't see the battle very well. With the bulk of the party charging Kharn directly at the front, your line of sight is pretty much blocked by Kharne herself, even if it wasn't already consumed by the throne. But you could see just how hard Alondight and her knights are fighting. And how hard they're losing.

It's a slaughter, even you can see that. Despite her size - despite the new bulk of her frame, and her ungainly limbs - Kharn still moved like the killer she was before she witched out, and then some.

She used to toy with her prey - gave them a sporting chance, locking blades with them, parrying, even blocking. She liked to make them think they had a fighting chance, before utterly destroying them.

This Kharn was not as benevolent.

It worked
>>
>>32223640

This Kharn cut out the middleman, so to speak.

Literature would always speak of a monster or a legendary pugilist slaying men like insects - but to kill a pest, a small portion of will is expended. One must focus on the task at hand or else look the fool. Not so with this Kharn - she killed as easily as wiping sweat from her brow, or a beggar gathering up coins back into his hovel after a day's panhandling. Each stroke of her blade, or her axe, you saw Magical Girls die, flying into the air as either broken ragdolls or jagged pieces scattered by the wind.

"KNIGHTS! KNIGHTS, HOLD FORMATION! DO NOT--" Alondight's voice, already hoarse from too much cursing and shouting, tries to rally what's left of her Templars forward, while keeping on the defense. At the same time, you hear Enyo's twinned chainsaw blades crash against something irrevocably metal, the whirring teeth trying its best to bite but failing.

You hear - besides the cursing and the gunfire and the rumble of chainswords being slowly ruined beyond use - a strange noise.

A deep, rasping noise from a monster's throat, even as the lower torso of a still-armored Black Templar slides down its gullet. Certainly not borne of the swallowing action, nor a byproduct of digestion. And it doesn't sound like it's trying to say something other than--

No. no, it's laughing.

It's being murdered by Alondight's team with everything they have - and yet it's laughing and killing with the same breath.

Laughing as it continues to kill everyone who's doing their best to stop it.

And then - suddenly - it turns around. On its spiked, tower-like heels, it turns to look at the bright, brilliant lance of energy thrusting upward to the ruined heavens, beginning where Mordred's blade ended.

Licking its lips with its ghastly long tongue, before raising its own black blade in mockery and in challenge.

No. NO.

"ABORT!" Alondight screams. "YUMA, GET OUT OF THERE, SHE'S GOING TO KILL YOU--"

Despite the renewed assault on its back to try and get its attention once more - despite Alondight and Enyo screaming at you from the vox to move, to relocate, to grab Mordred and run - you choose to stay. Even as Kharn begins to bring down the black blade on top of your position - you choose to stay.

You only have time to pulse one word to Cavefish.

+ SHIELD +

The telekine shield of both your combined strength flashes into existence around and above all three of you in the span of one heartbeat - and immediately disappears as it's shattered by the falling black blade. The feedback of its hilariously quick destruction lancing through your bodies, your minds, making eyes and noses run free blood down your faces. But you don't care. Neither does Cavefish. Even when both your suits are now singing in alarmed notes, your retinal display flashing warnings you don't have the time nor the capacity to heed.

+ SHIELD + You pulse again. The black blade falls once more. And this time, Cavefish falls to her knees, the power lines of her suit flickering, then failing.

+ YUMA + Cavefish's pulse is weak, frail, faint. + YUMA IT HURTS I CAN'T SEE +

+ SHIELD + You roar through your connection with her this time, and your best friend - already dying, or already dead, you have no idea which - staggers back to her feet, her suit flickering live again.

At the third impact, Cavefish collapses - and doesn't get back up.

Just as your retinal display - scrambled as it is - declares that Mordred's five minutes are done.

"MORDRED!" You scream, risking a moment to turn back at the girl. "KILL IT! KILL--"

Your voice dies in your throat as you see Mordred take a step back, then another. Her eyes focused not on you, but on the approaching witch.

[1/2]
>>
>>32224249

She drops her sword - the accrued energy fizzling out immediately - and runs. As fast as her legs could carry her.

You're left stunned as you watch the only remaining hope of humanity turn tail, screaming for her sisters, screaming for her mother.

+ yuma + Cavefish's glove scrabbles against the side of your boot. + yuma i'm sorry please i can't see i'm scared help me +

You turn again, and see the black blade once more about to fall. If it does, it would kill you and Cavefish both.

For a moment, you find yourself wanting to laugh.

The blade falls--

Doing something stupid and cowardly, betraying your mentor's trust in a moment of fear?
I kinda expect Yuma to mix a little sympathy in with that rage.
>>
>>32224428
the stupid bitch who ran for her life who was supposed to nuke the shit out of kharn.

Except blocking it is what you do with a +shield+ and that worked out real well.

It's time to pay for our crimes. With our body.

>>32224395
This. I wish Dec had given us a chance to stop Mordred from running, or was that opportunity an earlier choice?
>>
>>32224453
I don't know just some side story character some fan/contributer to the MGNQ verse.

Frankly, the irony of the Sword of Promised Victory became a lie, kind of bothers me.
>>
>>32224463
nope, don't know who you're talking about.

No such person.
>>
>>32224418
This is Saber's shitty illegitimate child clone thing, not Saber herself.

9 threads till this falls off page 10.

And there we see the pointlessness of it all.
>>
>>32224510
WITH THEIR LIVES ON THE LIIINNEEE
>>
>>32224453
Technically Mordred is a Saber, but she's a weaker clone of her father. Arturia is probably the single strongest servant in the system, aside from Gil due to how much she is known about and revered.
>>
>>32224502
Don't care, in this universe if I recall their all sisters and frankly kind of brings me down since I'm a fan of type-moon
>>
>>32224517
But Gil isn't even a very strong servant, he just has the phattest loot
>>
>>32224535

Not every Saber can be top Seiba.

How many Arturia sisters are there anyway? I'm guessing Saber, Nero, and Mordred, but are there dark Sabers or lilies or anything? god there are a lot of Sabers thinking about it...
>>
>>32224542
He's the king of heros, and quite literally the architypical ancient hero. Part god with amazing weapons and equipment. Most if not all heros after are patterned on his myths and all their weapons are derived from his prototypes.

His limitation is his class. He has the raw stats to be a saber, but he doesn't "practice swordsmanship" to allow him into that class, prefering to bombard battle fields.
>>
>>32224578
I remember their's 5, part of the first knights of the office and all of them like girls.

So yeah standard MGQN
>>
>>32224578
Saber, Lily, Alter, Nero and Mordred. Maybe even Heroine X. Who knows.
>>
>>32224378
>Implying we don't deserve to end up as meaty Yuma bits.
>>
>>32224578
Alter and Lily are aspects of Arturia, so I'd assume they aren't sisters. Saber Sakura might be, though.
>>
>>32224607
I remember Decu or maybe Wendy saying he had a plan for Alter but not one for Lily. I don't think he said anything about Master Artoria or Sakura Saber. Or Jeanne.

You catch the blade.

Not with your hands, but with the strength your contract gave you. What your wish gave you.

Locking that grievous, immense sword immobile with a surge of desperate focus, keeping it trembling in the air above you, above Cavefish.

Over the sound of your own ragged heartbeat - you give it everything you have left. With your hands raised, you slowly curl them into fists, pouring body and soul into your suit, which in turn turned into into force that clutched that blade and prevented it from falling. Your hands - they won't close completely. They just won't.

>You're killing yourself with this. This focused depletion of life force, channeled into energy. Then again, you're already dead - so what does it really matter in the end?

Gritting your bloodied teeth behind your faceplate, you roar a wordless cry into the vox. Defying everything. Your shame. Your defeat. Your disgrace. Your death.

And the black blade cracks.

The sound echoes throughout the entire hellscape, as stark and alien as a laugh in the middle of a funeral. Even Kharn herself, twisted beyond corruption, huffs a breath in disbelief.

You find yourself laughing again, and it's here that you close your hands, finally clenching them into fists.

The black blade SHATTERS in an explosion of cursed black bronze, its pieces blasting across the battlefield, killing those in its path no matter their allegiance. Several of these shards slash and gouge into Kharn herself, lodging into her flesh. She roars - a beastly roar interlaced with a scream of suffering, a sound you never want to hear outside a nightmare ever again.

Numb with pain, with blood filling your mouth, you fall down on your knees and collapse next to Cavefish's corpse. Her hand frozen as it reaches out for you, her helmet angled to look directly into your visor.

And the last thing you see is Malal, walking past you, her hardsuit torn to shreds, her head bereft of a helmet, revealing sharp pink eyes. Impossibly-long pink hair underneath a blazing halo crowning her scalp.

And in her hands, a long rosewood bow, its blossoming tip aflame.

+ Kharn, + She says without speaking, and yet the purest, most divine voice fills your eyes. + This is me keeping a promise, you ugly snow-shoveling yokel. Now turn around and get saved already before I change my fucking mind. +

Whoops! Quickly, before we 404! This marks the end of the flashback! Thank you for everyone's participation, this was a rollercoaster ride! Feedback is great, and sorry if it feels a bit rushed - I wanted to finish this tonight!

Thank you, we'll be going back to Murderface next thread! Unless anyone wants an epilogue thread!
>>
>>32224789
Did you... Did you miss Malal Quest? We've already seen her use them before.

Yes! I want to know what happened to Mordred, and if Yuma was able to bring Cavefish's body back out.

Cavefish didn't turn to dust; that's how Culexus who burn out usually die, isn't it?
So wait, does that mean that her Soul Gem is still salvageable?

Cheers again Decu!

this.
holy shit mordred needs to get her ass kicked.

She used her rose bow in her flashback, it's a last ditch attack since it seems to feed off her life energy depending on how strong an arrow she needs.

That's the part I'm confused about. If she was never physically hit then it shouldn't matter what feedback her body took.
