Welcome to Academy City. The time is afternoon, the weather is foreboding and the date is August 15.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you are dreading the punishment that your elder sister in all but blood had cooked up for you. There were many crimes to your name, including murder and larceny, but the one that she was punishing you for is sharing a bed with your girlfriend. Despite the fact that such a thing was completely chaste, to your knowledge, it also broke a rule given that Asuka, your girlfriend, essentially went AWOL twice. To be fair, the both of you had been drinking, underage at that, but Aneue didn’t have to know that, among other things. Then again she had snuck you a glass or two but you’d rather not risk it given the circumstances.

Still, you think you’ve resolved a significant issue that Asuka had with her father and vice versa. In a perfect world, she and her father would get along swimmingly and the latter would explicitly approve of your relationship. Alas, her father had an aversion towards violence and would rather she gave up the sword, perhaps to take up more peaceful pursuits, whilst his opinion of you was probably due some poor first impressions on both your and his part. It was probably a typical teenager problem you guess, dealing with in-laws that is.

Coming back to your impending punishment however, you had no idea what Aneue had planned for you. The last time was some fairly physical work, cleaning the pool. Maybe you could ask her about it and perhaps share a glass with her in the process. You recall Touma had a thing for her but you’re not sure if she was interested at all though. Still you could do something else with your afternoon, like work or some shopping.

>Catch up with Aneue

>Go shopping somewhere

You decided to stick around. There was nothing pressing to attend to and it felt like it was a while since you actually got to talk to her. Alcohol always did make people more talkative and maybe you could get yourself a glass as well.

“I hope you’re not staying for long Torikov,” she said, “I have to do my rounds.”

She said that but she was still sipping on her glass though the bottle was nowhere to be seen.

“They’ll be fine Aneue. What could possibly go wrong?” you asked with a smile.

Her eyes narrowed, nearly slamming her glass down as she did so.

“There are only two types of Tokiwadai students, ones who have broken a rule and ones who will break a rule,” she sighed, “If only the Ladies of Tokiwadai were so reasonable.”

You shrugged. The rules were stricter at Tokiwadai apparently, not that you knew them or anything.

“Your girlfriend is the only one that I know so far that had a rule up because of her behaviour,” Aneue continued, “It’s the ‘no sword fighting outside the designated areas at Tokiwadai’ rule. Misaka has been tame in comparison though she lacks discretion.”

“You’re talking about Misaka Mikoto right?”

“The one and only,” she finished off her glass, “Come, I need to do my rounds and you’ve taken enough time for today.”

“What? Can’t I have at least one glass for the road?”

“Consider it part of the punishment,” she answered with finality, “Once you do something good I might consider it.”

Some good huh? How about if you set her up on a blind date with Touma? Would that be considered a good thing? Then again you weren’t sure how things were going with Daigo, since Sparky and Shirai had been trying to set her up with him.

Would you like to meddle in Aneue’s love life?

A simple way to get the two to interact would have been to suggest that Touma needs counseling. I'm sure once she sees his home situation she might be sympathetic to him.

It didn’t hurt to try right? She was almost out the door by the time you spoke.

“Well how does me getting you a boyfriend sound?”

The 180 turn she did was abrupt.

“Would you care to repeat that?” she cracked her knuckles.

“You don’t think it’ll be good for you? I mean, to loosen up of course, for the good of all of us.”

She moved fast, faster than even Asuka and you could already feel her strangulation take hold. Thus you had to speak well and speak fast.

“I may have someone who has expressed interest in older women.”

Her grip tightened and your hands could not even begin to pry it off.

“Well, mature, sophisticated women such as yourself.”

You were starting to black out.

“Okay, okay bad idea,” you panicked, “How about you supervise one of my da-”

You didn’t get to finish the sentence before you heard a muted creak and consciousness left for greener pastures. Turns out it did hurt to try.

The time is now sunset, the weather is painful, and the date remains unchanged.

You’ve become aware that you are lying in a crumpled heap somewhere off to the side of the entrance to the Tokiwadai Outer Dormitories. It was a shame that you couldn’t quite finish that last sentence. Hiding a double date under the pretence of supervising both you and Asuka on an outing had way more merit than it should. Since you were free this would be the perfect opportunity. Getting up from the cold pavement, you brushed yourself off with some wincing. You decide to pop a pill before doing anything else. With curfew coming up it was probably best to go home though some shops should still be open at this time.

There was no reason to go straight back yet you thought. Besides, you never really did care much about curfew anyway. You wandered the shopping districts but as expected most of them were starting to close for the day. Thus you wandered aimlessly about the slowly darkening city, tugging your jacket closer as a cold breeze blew by. The streets emptied, evening set in and you found yourself ducking in to a mall just to check out what shops were still open and which were not.

Unsurprisingly the supermarkets were open and so were some of the gaming centres. The arcades were mostly empty but you did spot a familiar face amongst the crowd of thinning students. You weren’t exactly in uniform so the staff turned a blind eye to you. As long as Anti-Skill didn’t show up you should be fine. The redhead that owed you half a mil was dancing away at one of the DDR machines. She only glanced at you once as she continued to trounce the other two fools who had challenged her to a game.

“Alright suckers, pay up, I beat you fair and square,” Toshino Kyouko demanded from the two losers before turning to you, “So already here for the money? I thought we agreed I had a week.”

“Was just wandering,” you shrugged, “I usually don’t play so late so I guess we never saw each other at the arcades.”

“Or maybe I’m just so damn good you were too scared to challenge me,” she wasn’t that reserved.

“In your dreams Toshino and don’t bother, I just got out of the wheelchair today.”

“Whatever,” she brushed you off and started to play again, “I’m almost done here anyway.”

You stuck around to watch her last few games but otherwise you didn’t bother her further. It was way past curfew now and there weren’t any good students left wandering the street. Good and respectable shops were closing and the only ones open with usually convenience stores. Well it wasn’t important since you still had some ingredients left even if you wanted to have dinner this late. Funnily enough you weren’t too hungry just yet so you continued to walk. It had to be said that you felt much slower than when you were in a wheelchair. That or maybe you were just getting lazy.

Your stroll took you west, towards the rail and cargo terminals. Strange that there were no trains running tonight, you thought. Even the wind turbines seemed to move on and off even if you didn’t feel the breeze. Just as you were about to call it a night you heard a muted thump in the distance. Though you could barely make it out in the distance you could see a cloud of smoke rising up before it started to disperse. Of course you were curious but you were still mindful of your doc’s orders to take it easy. Thus you could only slightly quicken your pace as you moved to investigate. Hell you thought you could see bits of metal and sparks flying as you approached and by the time you got there all you found was Sparky.

She was kneeling on the ground from the bridge you were standing on. From her posture you hazarded that she lost a fight here, even if the surroundings looked too neat to have been the location of one. Even the explosion would have disturbed the area more than a few scorch marks here and there. Perhaps it was covered up?

Descending the stairs, you approached Sparky. She was barely moving but she was still alive, if only drained. Just as you reached out to her she turned to you, tears welling up in her eyes. You were almost taken aback by it. She looked away again, leaning on her two hands.

“This is so messed up.”

She started sniffling.

“Why?” she repeated.

“WHY?”

She finally crumbled.

“Why does it have to be this way?”

Your best guess was that she finally found firsthand evidence of the Level 6 Shift and she didn’t like what she found. Having someone who looked and sounded like you just be killed in front of your face was not high on your list of things you wished to experience. It didn’t change the fact that Sparky was now bawling in the gravel in front of you. She wanted to get up but each time she pushed herself up she just fell again.

It was easy for you to be calm, being uninvolved as you were. Well maybe you weren’t exactly uninvolved but did you even have to be? There was a crying girl right in front of you and you had to act, you felt like you had to.

Maybe you were partly responsible for this, maybe you were feeling sorry for her, but that didn’t matter. You weren’t going to leave her, at least not like this. Though she didn’t seem to be cooperative, you hauled her up anyway. She wasn’t too heavy but it was enough that you could only support half her weight with your powers. It was enough for you to haul her off though.

A trek and a half later you sat her down on a bench somewhere in the seventh before going off to grab some drinks for the two of you. Sadly all you managed was to get some normal juice.

“Thanks,” Sparky managed to mumble.

She took the offered can but didn’t open it. It felt like an age that she sat there grasping the can, no doubt absorbing the chill of the contents. You let her take her time though so you just sat in silence, enjoying the strangely sour can of apple juice. She was silent but at least she stopped crying.

“’What would you if your own clone appeared before you’ huh?” Sparky started.

You didn’t interrupt her since it looked like she was talking to herself.

“Do your clones live only to be killed in an experiment?” she continued, “Hey, tell me, what would you think of your own clones then?”

Now she was talking to you. She was also looped back to tearing up again.

You finished your drink before you answered her.

“I’d freak out of course,” you replied, “It’d be my first and most logical reaction.”

Then you crushed your can, not with your mind but with just your hand.

“Then I’d get angry, like real angry. They’re my flesh and blood, an extension of me. Someone fucks with them, they fuck with me,” then you fashioned a small cube out of it with your mind, “And nobody fucks with me.”

“Hm,” Sparky started on her drink, “So you’d think they’re like your siblings?”

“Yeah,” you thought that wasn’t a bad way to put it, “Brothers, with the same blood and the same face. Of course since I’m the original I’m the big brother. But that’s just me, what about you?”

“I felt sick,” she admitted, “I just wanted her to disappear.”

She lowered her gaze.

“I guess I got what I wanted huh?”

“Be careful of what you wished for huh?” now it was your turn to wonder, “You know I’m an orphan right Sparky?”

She nodded.

“I’ve never had a brother or sister that shared the same blood as me so if I had one that did then they’ll definitely be important to me.”

“I’m an only child,” Sparky said, “So I guess I was shocked. I didn’t know how or even what to feel.”

“Yeah, I can imagine that kind of shock,” you agreed, “It’d be like if my real parents just showed up out of the blue.”

The two of you talked through the night.

The time is now morning, the weather is better and the date is now August 16.

It was Nunotaba that found the two of you conked out on the bench somewhere in the seventh first thing that morning. Gensei is apparently running the whole thing, and he won't care. He was willing to kill himself to turn Mikoto into a level 6 even though he wouldn't live to see it. And if we kill him they'll probably just replace him with Amata, and he's not any saner.

Plus we're going to get one of the Dark Side agencies after us eventually, and we're not going to win that fight.

Course we don't know any of this, so it's still a valid tactic to pursue.

In what way could magic help resolve this problem?

Crowley wants the experiment to stop though. He just may not want us to be the one to stop it. Since Accelerator's wings are apparently part of the keikaku, he may delay it being stopped until Touma beats some morals into Accelerator.

“Just who do you think I am?” Sparky replied as she sauntered off.

“もう, why did you do that?” Nunotaba watched Sparky leave, “Giving her false hope like that, no one can stop the experiments, not me, not you, and definitely not her. そいえば, what was with that Orwellian expression? Are you in to younger girls then?”

“Of the three of us, who’s actually tried to stop Level 6 Shift?” you asked in turn.

She turned away at that.

“Thought so,” you yawned, “So what are you here for? Another job?”

“いいえ,” your stomach growled, “I was thinking breakfast.”

To be fair you didn’t exactly have dinner last night, among other things. Just thinking of all the reading you could have done not to mention a shower and a warm bed, was enough for you to just swallow another pill and duck in to a café with Nunotaba. Breakfast was light but you actually needed some coffee today. You remembered that you were serving some sentence today so you needed to stay awake, for most of it. Long nights weren’t a stranger to you.

Once again you returned to the Tokiwadai Outer Dormitories to the waiting figures of Aneue and Kaoru. You’re not sure what she was doing here.

“Good morning Torikov,” she frowned at your appearance.

You wanted to reply in turn but the tired yawn had you saying,

“Meowning,” instead.

“Perhaps it would be unwise to carry out his punishment in such a state?” Kaoru offered.

“Nonsense,” Aneue shot that down immediately, “The faster he finishes the faster he can go back to sleep.”

“Very well.”

“Torikov, Misaka did not return to her room last night,” Aneue spoke, “Shirai thinks she is clever but I am not the Dorm Supervisor for nothing. You are going to find her and drag her back here. Understood?”

You almost gave a start at that.

“You wouldn’t know anything about her disappearance now do you?” she continued.

I thought Unabara was a telepath. Like he was the one with the controversy around using his ability to read the teacher's mind to cheat on his tests. Might be wrong though.
>>
>>32270791
No, he's a level 4 Telekinetic. . And his shit is awesome.

>“Of course it does.” Mikoto crossed her arms and said, “According to that nosy Shirai Kuroko’s behind-the-scenes investigations, he actually got his grades through cheating. His method is to put a thin layer of his ability on the computer screen for the exam, feel the minute heat and radiation, and reverse-engineer the correct answer… Simply put, it’s like a stethoscope. So, his grades and his knowledge have no connection.”

>“But at the point of death, he used his esper ability… Telekinesis. He changed every particle in his body into a solid block, going into a false death—maybe cryogenic stasis is a better term. Stabbing his heart was like stabbing a frozen slab of meat; no damage could be done. Not even the Spear could take him apart. I had no other ideas, so I could only tie him up and lock him in the room…”

as awesome as that sounds I can't help but feel like the author had his pants on his head when he wrote that.
>>
>>32270846
Honestly auto-reflect would be the most badass thing for him.
>>
>>32270886
Also depends a lot on how his telekinesis works. Ours at level 4 would probably be closer to leaving the atomic bonds while fucking with an object leading to something invisible.

Not like all the telekinetic work the same.
>>
>>32270886
It'd work just fine, it'd just also kill you. So the question would be how the hell Unabara survived doing that. Personal Reality is the solution for most Esper-related sins in this series though.
>>
>>32270942
Kind of depends on where you stop calling it TK. There's Accel's vector control, that girl with control over centrifugal force, the friction guy, the girl with manipulation over particles to influence individual molecules, Kakine used some weird TK-like power, Mr. Equal Speed.

There's alot of shit.

“It’s not my place to say,” you shrugged.

Aneue cracked her knuckles.

“Alright, I’m not saying it was clones,” you hurriedly changed your tune, “But it was clones.”

Kaoru’s lips curved in to a smile while Aneue’s vice-like grip was applied to your cranium.

“Okay, uh, someone beat her score at the arcade last night,” you tried, “I have no idea where she is now though.”

Like that the immense pressures threatening to cave in your skull ceased immediately.

“If you had no idea then you could have just said so,” Aneue sighed, “Just go. Patrol with Kaur or something for the day and get out of my hair.”

Kaoru gave the both of you a look before Aneue returned back inside and you shrugged. Hopefully Aneue wasn’t turning to drink this early in the day.

“So shall we begin?” Kaoru eventually asked.

“Yeah, let’s get this over with,” you answered.

Kaoru wasn’t actually supposed to find Sparky though, she was told just to look after a rowdy student. It didn’t surprise her at all that it was you though. In fact she was half-expecting it, the nerve. For the most part though, you were just going to walk her beat. She was technically still a trainee even if she qualified to be a full officer, she still had five more months of ‘training’ to go. Apparently she even got her parachute qualifications at the beginning of the month.

“Where shall we head to first then?”

She had listed the various areas in School District 7 that was part of her beat. The shopping streets were an obvious choice, if you wanted to get something for yourself as well. However you were sure there was more trouble to be had looking through the various arcades scattered about the district. The last option of course was to try and locate Sparky as Aneue had asked.

The arcades sounded like it could be fun and fun kept you awake. Chasing after Sparky could come later, if at all. Walking through and checking out familiar haunts, you wished that Kaoru would let you linger long enough to play more than a game here or two. At least you were able to play at all seeing as it was really suspicious if you just went in for nothing. Thankfully you found some trouble soon enough. It was to your surprise that the source of it was centred on Toshino Kyouko.

You recognised the two punks from last night. It seems they brought quite a few friends with them as well, seven in total. Nine to one, you still think Toshino would have been able to wipe the floor with these punks but it was probably not worth the trouble. Still they were pretty persistent.

“Come on Toshino, how about another game?” one of them asked.

“Look the money’s good as gone, I have bills to pay you know?” she replied, “Besides here’s my loan shark now.”

She pointed at you. Almost all of them turned to look at you.

“What so that’s it? So this punk has our money?”

Toshino did not deny it as one of them closed in on you. Kaoru was standing behind you for the most part and made no move interrupt.

If these chumps thought they looked intimidating with their numbers then they got another thing coming. Judging from their school uniforms it looked like they were from some no name high school. With Kaoru hiding behind you, no doubt waiting to render Judgement on the whole situation, you decided it was best to scare them off rather than beat them like an abusive parent.

“What?” you asked, “See something you like?”

It was a familiar tone and posture. You stood up a little straighter, leveraging your taller than average height to add to the effect.

“Yeah, I see a punk who has our money.”

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. Your eyes wandered the immediate area. You were standing between two rows of fighting game cabinets, each having two small metal stools for players underneath them. Toshino was still backed against a wall at the end of the row with eight punks surrounding her but they were mostly paying attention to you.

“You think this is your money, but you are incorrect,” you continued evenly, “Or do I have to show you how much force it takes to shatter your kneecaps and call it a case of excessive self defence?”

With a huff the punk backed off, turning back to his friends, or at least that’s what he wanted you to think. You almost didn’t notice it but one of the stools had gone missing. If he timed it right you wouldn’t have been paying attention to the incoming blow. Kaoru’s warning came about half a second too late but you were already ducking underneath the improvised projectile.

You’re not sure why you even needed to duck at all as you arrested the momentum of the flying chair. You more than arrested the momentum though, sending the stool flying back straight at the punk who threw it. It was rather solid impact from the sound alone. That was when all hell broke loose. You made out four of the punks breaking off, scrambling over the stools and cabinets to get at you. They weren’t having an easy time of it given that you were tossing stools at them as they came. Stools were great improvised projectiles you thought. Then you felt an impact along the side of your head.

Blindsided completely you fell, but not before seeing Kaoru leap in to action, sweeping the legs of a punk that was climbing over the cabinets to get at you. Then she tackled another punk on the opposite row, the two of them disappearing behind the cabinets with a string of curses from the latter. You managed to regain your footing as more solid ice projectiles and stools came your way. Looks like a there was a Cryomaster and a Telekenetic amongst the group. You really didn’t want to trash the arcade seeing as you’ll probably be banned from it but you needed to protect yourself. Toppling a cabinet to serve as an impromptu shield only blocked the projectiles but not the two punks that you had held at bay with your stool-based projectiles. They were probably the Level 0s of the group. The one on your left had a stool and the one of the right was unarmed though he was limping a little.

Past them you could see Toshino chipping in by slapping away the punks surrounding her with some kind of weird spear. Still you had your own problems regarding Stools and Limpy. The former was coming at you full tilt though but it was predictable whilst the latter was hobbling forward but seemed to have a plan.

The stool was headed towards your face. Predicting the where the strike would land was easier since you could see how he was about to swing the thing. Thus getting around Stools was no problem. It was Limpy, the one with the dangerous eyes that you were wary of since his plan was not so obvious.

Your injuries made themselves known as you pushed yourself past Stools’ wide swing. A little telekinesis was enough to affect his aim, sending him flying near comically past you as you attacked Limpy right where it hurt. His ankle folded at a painful angle as he went down with a cry and a wild haymaker that grazed your temple. It stung and you realised that he probably had a razor hidden in his knuckles that you couldn’t see. The cut was shallow and it probably wouldn’t bleed too much. Stools had finally recovered as was about to come at you again before Kaoru came flying from behind the row of cabinets she had tackled a punk over. Her appearance made Stools pause to look in her direction before Kaoru introduced her right knee to his face at unsafe speeds.

“Now I see why you get in to fights all the time Torikov-san,” Kaoru finally said.

“He’s a real charmer ya,” Toshino agreed having climbed over a fallen cabinet, “That’s four to me, three to the chibi and two for you. Looks like I win again.”

“Oh I should have nailed both of them at once then,” you pretended to complain.

“Gotta say though, that shining wizard was way hardcore,” Toshino turned to Kaoru, “Nice moves chibi.”

“Jaswinder Kaur,” your Sikh friend returned as she cuffed the last clown, “I’m with Judgement.”

“Oh,” Toshino mouthed, “Shit. Hope you weren’t insulted with me calling you chibi.”

“It is no matter. May I have your name miss?”

“Toshino Kyouko.”

[1/2]
>>
>>32275061
It didn’t take long for more Judgement and Anti-Skill to show up and secure the area. There wasn’t really much for you or Toshino Kyouko to do though. The both of you had been instructed to stay and give statements.

“Man I’m usually on the run from these guys,” Toshino said, “Didn’t think you’d be buddy-buddy with them.”

The cut on your temple didn’t merit more than a band-aid and you had sat down on one of the stools, waiting for Kaoru to finish. Toshino had joined, suspiciously without her spear.

“Yeah well I’m being forced to patrol with Kaoru as punishment,” you replied.

She laughed at that.

“And what’s with calling me your loan shark anyway?” you complained, “I’m not harassing you for the money or anything.”

“What else was I suppose to call ya then?”

You didn’t quite know either.

We already know what level 4 TK can do from Unabara. Though we've only seen him do weird, finesse things. He's never done anything like blow up a building. We don't see much of him in general though.

The strongest display of generic TK we've seen is probably from that SCHOOL guy, who tossed an armored police van and then ripped it in half. We don't know what his level is though. Mugino called him a weakling and killed him pretty easily.

“How about Papa Torikov?” you suggested, “Or Big Daddy, either works.”

You almost missed it but Toshino goes still momentarily at the word ‘papa’. Shaking her head as if to clear up her head she replied,

“Yeah, how about no. Anyways I’m out.”

With her gone you walked over to Kaoru who looked to be finished with her own work.

“I will have to inform the Dorm Supervisor to never have you on patrol with me anymore,” she seemed tired, “Your attitude is conductive to peaceful conflict resolution.”

“Oh come on, those punks weren’t that vicious.”

“True, I had friend in Lahore who were much worse,” she admitted, “But that doesn’t mean you have to provoke fights.”

“I’m sorry.”

You weren’t really that apologetic though.

“Anyways we still have more than half a day left, pray that any future altercations will not escalate in to massive property damage.”

True. Like Goggle Boy seems to kind of fire something invisible. Which is probably what the goggles are for now that I think about it, for aiming.
>>
>>32275786
At least the description is better this time.

We changed date somewhere in the middle of the thread.

the easier to pick them up?

>You almost missed it but Toshino goes still momentarily at the word ‘papa’. Shaking her head as if to clear up her head

This amuses me more then it should.
>>
>>32275914
I was hoping someone would find it funny. Most would just assume the worst.

>Jaswinder Kaur default expression
Will there be anyone else in this quest that looks so consistently as if you just kicked their puppy over a bridge?
>>
Alot of people in this series have Daddy issues if you squint. Biri's crush on Touma gets kind of creepy when you see all the similarities between him and her dad.
>>
>>32275940
we need to get that bitch an umbrella
>>
>>32275955
Oh god, no wonder she thinks so poorly of us. We killed all her puppies and then we stole her umbrella.
>>
>>32275947
I knew an old lady who once told me that a girl's first boyfriend is their father. If we take that for true, then for biribiri who seems to have spent no time with her own, it's only natural that she'd want someone just like him.
>>
>>32275940
It's just a byproduct of the lack of good pictures that I could use for her. A lot of them are too complicated to crop in paint too.
>>
We should totally tell Kaoru Kyoko glows blue

color coded magic detection is cool but we don't know what half the colors mean
>>
>>32276023
Or we could not do that because Kaoru thinks we're a brutish thug instead of a trustworthy friend, and is liable to do something drastic without telling us as a result, costing us someone possibly unique and possibly valuable.
>>
>>32275931
I pretty much imagined her imagining Kyril as a pimp there for a second. Then switched over to just him being her dad. Was hilarious. Course right afterwards I noticed it could be a sign of something pretty bad.
>>
>>32276023
Does Kaoru even know about the magic eyes?
>>
>>32276047
We honestly shouldn't mention anything to her like that. I mean it's always useful to keep secrets and things are a little strained.
>>
>>32276047
Yes.

yeah, she asked us to check Asuka's dad for magic.
>>
>>32275997
Maybe, it's just kind of blatant.

>Only male characters to get drunk (besides Touya's random friend)
>Constantly running off to solve some issue and are rarely home
>Both are unlucky
>Both threaten people way above their actual power
>Both tend to alternate between total calm and complete panic
>Both prefer to fight with words before fists and hate violence

I mean fuck, just read this.

>"If you don’t like it, find a way to protect everyone while raising your precious trees!!”
