Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage, labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread, you discovered your friend was desperately ill, were granted the ancient knowledge of runes necessary for enchantment, and continued your descent into the depths of an ancient mine.

“Good, then lets just rush through. I'm not sure how long it will be until Chrys wakes up and how long she will be on her feet after wards.” Profectus nods and begin the descent, followed by Darzi and Fulvia. They all manage to navigate the worn, poorly constructed stairwell without too much difficulty. You approach the precipice cautiously, trying to figure out just how you intend to go about this without falling on your ass. You end up half-sliding half-stumbling down the stairs but manage it without dropping Chrys or knocking over any of your companions at the bottom.

The room you find yourself in is noticeably less polished than the floor above had been. It almost appears as if the ground has shifted several feet from where it had been when the hall was constructed. The walls seem lopsided and weak, and in some places have partially collapsed. It's not all bad though. Some sort of glowing fungus has grown up through the cracks providing light in addition to your lantern, it really alleviates the sense of claustrophobia you'd been feeling in the upper hallways, where seeing more than three feet in front of you was a luxury.

After walking for several minutes without hearing a thing besides the steady rumbling coming from far, far below the tense silence that had pervaded most of this dungeon crawl begins to break down. Darzi and Profects strike up a conversation about gambling, of which Darzi is apparently an avid fan though not of dice and cards. Rather she seems to prefers betting on sport, cockfighting and the arena mostly. This comes as a great disappointment to Profectus, who seems to doubt that anyone but the Rhynians are able to host proper bloodsports.

You sort of tune it out, since it's not particularly relevant to your interest. Chrys is still asleep, in fact if anything she seems to be sleeping deeper than she was earlier. With the situation, for a brief moment at least, calm you could probably take the time to simply chat with your companions, or you could contact Demetrios about some ideas you had for the game. Those fish-men would be great figures. Actually Demetrios would probably also be a good source of information regarding how your assassination went, and weather you're suspected of anything.

Could we talk to both fulvia and Demetrios about metal.
After chatting about business.
>>
>>32267035
thats the plan actually.
It just so happens that we can get info as well.
>>
so how do we level up enchanting and what should we try enchanting?
>>
>>32267078
We could try to make some Escher-like patterns with the runes.
>>
>>32267078
We level up by meditating and we should try simple, expendable stuff first.

We looted a bunch of cheap weapons didn't we? We can try those.

>Contact Demetrios, check in on Siege! And the fallout from killing Lord Spiros.
>>
>>32267078
we could try some arrow of chryssa. not too important if destroyed and imediatly useful. also it shouldn't make us too insane to improve them.
>>
>>32267124
I meant in as methods to meditate, and also i forgot about the equipment we got.
>>32267123
True, but i doubt we can just try random shit, but maybe we could learn runes from the enchanted shit we have.

Effect Runes:
Fire

Target Runes:
Self
Strike

Trigger Runes:
Active
Inactive
Fire+Strike+Active= might equal either explosive hits or a flaming weapon, but i have no clue on the other stuff.
Also lowest DC is 30.
>>
>>32267190
It doesn't affect our insanity perse, but being insane does help, also the DC is 30.
>>
>>32267198
We already know the language.
>>
>>32267267
So knowing the language doesn't automatically mean we know what runes we can make or know how they work. which is why i suggest to see if we can find any on our already enchanted gear.
>>
>>32267198

I really don't get how Inactive and Active works.
>>
Man furthering this school of magic will be hard, but i wonder if we do raise another rank, if the DC will change or will always stay the same.

DC 30: Simple Enchantment
DC 35: Average Enchantment
DC 40: Advanced Enchantment
DC 45: Complex Enchantment

>The maximum number of enchantments an object can have without rapidly deteriorating is usually.
We really do need to learn permanency as well.
Jewelry: 1
Misc. Objects: 2
Weapons: 3
Clothes: 4
Armor: 5

Enchantment has other uses, but for now this is the extent of your knowledge. Unless a permanency spell is cast on an item shortly after being enchanted, it will only function for a set number of uses determined by the amount of vys pumped into it. More complex enchantments require more vys per use to function. Save with certain runes, it is impossible to refuel an enchantment.
>>
>>32267320
I'm guessing it might be like in a video game where one is passive, and the other is something you activate.
or it could be like
One is always on, and the other needs vys to turn on.
>>
>>32267330
I think we should get Grandmaster status in Water and Metal first so that way we can heal any physical damage that befalls us and keep our mind from deteriorating any further.
>>
Soma told us we can gain healing by getting 2(3?) healing based insights, so i suggest we bleed ourselves dry and try to heal our selves up.
Soma said we can try that as a way to meditate last time we bleed ourselves dry.
>>
>>32267330
>Unless a permanency spell is cast on an item shortly after being enchanted

Before we try enchantment we should learn that metamagic effect.
>>
>>32267394
Yeah, a DC minimum of 30 is gonna be a bitch to do, especially if the runes die after a few uses.
>>
>>32267412

We also need some down time after this hellhole.
>>
>>32267388
>keep our mind from deteriorating any further.
Fuck that we need to be more insane to effectively use enchanting.
>>
>>32267330
Perhaps we could lower DC for training by doing a VERY easy task. Like enchanting a wood log sitting on ember with fire rune or something/
>>
>>32267412
We will definitely need some bonuses to enchantment if we are gonna be attempting it a lot.
>>
>>32267432
Not really we still have to go into Fulvia mind (also not touch or fuck with anything other than the shade), and maybe hang out at the lake for a bit after killing the bandit leader, and healing Chrys.
>>
>>32267451
Soma said that after a certain level of insanity we wouldn't get anymore bonuses.
>>
>>32267198
>>32267330
Also note it we only have firer as an effect rune. We only got what that fire 'atma knows. Soma do you deny it?
>>
>>32267451
Soma told us that being crazier does lower the DC, but there is a point of no return where we couldn't focus enough to make enchantments.
>>
>>32267479

It could actually make it impossible to use after a certain point. So no, I think we are insane enough.
>>
>>32267315
>Symbols, words, knowledge screeches through your consciousness. It crams itself within your mind, forcefully expanding your horizons. It's too much for you to parse, to understand, to believe in such a short while. It feels as though your head has been split asunder simply by the wealth of knowledge you find yourself inundated with. Gradually you begin to make attach meaning to the symbols your head has been filled worth. You understand what they can be used for.

These runes are magic at their most basic. Runes are the method by which the Gods carved out the Earth from void, the method by which life was given to their creations, and the only way to truly commune with the gods. Runes are the only reason you find yourself able to think and perceive, the only reason a stone sinks in water. The only reason the sky appears blue and the only reason the sun rises every morning.
when we requested
>“I would like the knowledge necessary to both understand and use runes, not simply the knowledge of what they are.”
>>
>>32267496
The real question is are we at the correct level of insanity?
>>
>>32267455
I wonder if bonus stack per rune, or per combination and if they reset after a success.
>>
>>32267479
>>32267496
We're not even close to that point.
>>
>>32267487
No, that's correct. He transferred the knowledge he possessed to you. Rather than the full breadth of the Runic Language.
>>
>>32267526
we're already crazy.
I'd rather not get any more crazy.

After a certain point being to crazy won't let us focus.
>>
>>32267514
Yeah I think we are crazy enough too. We haven't even attempted yet though so we don't know what bonuses we would get at this point.

>>32267538
What makes you think that?
>>
>>32267475

By hellhole I mean the mine shaft, tunnels and fort. Everything, not just this particular "hole".
>>
>>32267453
I think that was part of meditating on the rune. Think a Reality Marble from Fate/series, imposing your ideal/concept onto the world then after x uses the world says stop.
>>
>>32267575
Hayes is way less sane and is probably more capable of enchanting than us.
>>
>>32267618
We could talk to Hayes and see if he knows anything about enchanting. He may know a few runes.
>>
>>32267453
>>32267604

That's actually a good way to start. Since wood can actually burn it most be easier and better ways to start.
>>
>>32267518
Soma just proved you wrong actually.

You contact Demetrios through the brooches. {Demetrios, my friend! How are you doing? I've come up with some fantastic ideas for figures!} There's a long pause, during which you realize you don't actually know what time it is above ground. You sort of lost track being underground for so long. He might be asleep, for all you know. Fortunately that seems not to be the case, because eventually he does respond. {Gods above, nearly made me jump out of my skin! I'm in the middle of teaching a class!} Oh, right. You'd forgotten he has a day job.

{Well, don't worry about that. I'm sure they can survive being deprived of your full attention for a short while. Listen, I'm exploring an ancient Rhynian mine, which is also a prison and a research facility. It's really just a fascinating place. Massive too, fifteen miles deep or something. Anyway, listen. I fought these fish-creatures in an underground lake above a rip in reality. They were about human-sized, had fins on their arms and legs, and sharp teeth. Big bug eyes. Real viscous fighters, but not that strong by themselves. Let me just... try something here.} You focus on the image of your construct running one of the figures through with its spear, trying to send it through the connection. It's difficult initially to conceptualize 'thinking' a memory through the connection, but eventually you're fairly certain you got it through.

You hear Demetrios' voice in your head shortly after. {Slow down, Mikhael! Did you say you fought these things above a tear in reality? How does that even work?} You shrug your shoulders, a useless gesture considering he can't see you. {I'm not sure. Truth be known the whole 'tear in reality' thing is conjecture. It looked like a giant glowing rend in nothing from which magic spilled forth.}
(1/2, or 3)
>>
There's another pause, followed by. {I am so glad I decided to be an academic instead of an adventurer. Anyway, I'll get some posters of these guys up. We found a great local artist and we've had him painting posters to hang up around the academy grounds. A lot of the faculty and some of the richer students have expressed interest in buying the rulebook once it comes out. We're still hashing out how to format the rulebook and all of that but I have high hopes for a small release at the end of the month.}

Not much news yet, apparently, but at least nothing has gone catastrophically wrong. {Anything else going on in Anthus? I'll probably be in Pidjata for a long while, but I may as well keep up to date.} He responds excitedly with. {Actually we've had a lot happen in the last few days since you left. The night you left town Lord Spiros was killed in his bed. Initially they'd thought it was an assassin, but investigators concluded that, and I'm being serious here, he struck a prostitute and she stabbed him for it. It's a huge scandal. Right now they're holding elections to determine who the next Lord Treasurer will be.}

Well, looks like you got away with it clean then. Of course for all you know the other Lords might have their own suspicions regarding Lord Spiros' death and just aren't revealing those suspicions to the public. {Oh, and one of the Shah's children appeared at the academy recently. Shahzadi Akeela-} {Aqila} You correct him. {Yeah, that's it. Real nice girl, a little odd though. She's keeps this gaggle of half-naked man-servants with her to carry her things. A little naive too. Other than that though a great pupil.} Those would be the captured bandits you sold her.

{Hey, one last thing before I let you go. I've been thinking about picking up metal magic but I'm not entirely sure how to go about it. Do you have any tips for an aspirant?} There's a pause before he replies. {Well, metal magic is tough to learn. I picked up what I know by reading the Metal edition of Introduction to the Elements or whatever that book series is called, but I couldn't get past novice with just what I learned in that book. I started to hang around smithies a lot, working with the blacksmiths. A lot of them, at least around here, know at least a little fire and metal magic so watching them work was really useful. Gave me an idea of metal magic's practical applications. I picked up a little fire magic during that time, though I'm still not all that great with it. Anyway, the method of meditation I found most useful was trying to twist long bars of metal into odd shapes. You know, twists and loops and all that. I also liked to weaken and then strengthen stones or what have you, using Earth magic sort of as a stepping stone to Metal magic.}

You'll have to remember that. It goes well with your idea of simply asking Fulvia to perform metal magic so you can observe her. Hopefully it will be enough to get you started and from there you can advance on your own. {I appreciate the help, Demetrios. By the way, tell Aqila that a filthy Aghtak says 'Hi'. Ask her how she managed to make it the rest of the way to Anthus without some dashing, mysterious stranger swooping in to rescue her. We'll talk soon.} He's halfway through asking how the two of you know each other when you sever the connection.

Once more turning your attention to your surroundings, you find that Fulvia has been dragged into Darzi and Prof's conversation, though the topic has changed. Now they're talking about their respective cultures. Rhynia had some really weird customs and traditions, from what you know. For one business men were supposed to invite their clients into their homes and provide them with food and drink before making any sort of sale. Plus, they buried their dead under ground, sometimes under their homes, instead of just burning the bodies to speed their souls into Pani's River.

You're distracted from eavesdropping on that conversation by Chryssa mumbling something unintelligible. She shifts, trying to get comfortable, and you nearly end up dropping her as a result. Seems she's finally waking up. Good, your arms are killing you. Still she'll probably want to know what's happened since she got knocked out by that massive AI, and it's a bit of a delicate situation what with her present condition.

Don't worry if it kills you, we'll tell everyone you died fighting the A. I. after ripping an arm off....pfft no we won't.
>>
>>32268928
Again why would she panic, when she has been shown to be calm almost all the time.
>>
>>32268928
Do you even follow this quest? The whinny bitch is Prof.

Who knows what he dumped where.
>>
>>32269292
Why doesn't he just try to repeal the ban?
>>
Soma doesn't have a QM buddy that could run this thread in the interim?
Shadow Quest did that once.

Welp, at least I can go to sleep early now.

But seriously banned for something like that?
Is the retarded janitor back? And if so has he not heard of the new ban policy yet?
>>
>>32269370
He could just send the updates to somebody and have them post it.
By which i mean post them himself with a proxy but does not reveal himself as such to avoid 'avoiding ban' ban.
>>
>>32269393
>>32269343
>>32269292
I just did a quick google search of them and its mostly ancient art, so i have no clue how you get banned for that.
>>
>>32269369
Because you can not appeal short bans.
>>
>>32269393

Maybe he posted with his trip and some faggot took his chance to report it and ruin our day.
>>
>>32269384
It was between Shadow Quest 105and115 or something, janitor got buttbraised and banned the QM, the QM from Merc Quest took up the mantle doing some sort of cross checking with the banned QM.
>>
Ah the pain of not having a dynamic IP, I feel so sorry for all you static IP guys.
>>
>>32269411
He would need a good proxie that actually works on 4chan.(which is a pain in the ass to find)
>>32269430
I thought it was only 48 hours bans that were considered short.
>>
well now, it's twitter page's saying it doesn't exist.
What now?
>>
>>32269449
>which is a pain in the ass to find
you can get a reliable proxy service for 5-10$/month
>>
>>32269478
Wut?

https://twitter.com/Quidam_Asinus
>>
>>32269478
what is going on?
>>
>>32269482
Meant to say the free ones which are unsafe as hell and is basically asking your computer to sleep with a nasty hooker, but yeah i doubt the normal anon needs to pay for proxies.
>>
>>32269500
>https://twitter.com/Quidam_Asinus
but it was https://twitter.com/Quidam_Asino

The one he used since the start of this quest just blew up?
>>
>>32269529
>>32269545
Well, he corrected his grammar or something.
>>
>>32269433
Nah, I never post with my trip outside of the threads.

>>32269343
Minoan women went topless, because it's hot in the Mediterranean. I posted it in a thread about weird ancient cultures.

>>32269370
I don't really frequent the hugbox.

>>32269478
Changed my twitter thingy from @Quidam_Asino to Asinus. The first means some to the ass and the latter just means Some Ass.
>>
>>32269545
>>32269529
Strange i was follwing him on twitter, and it followed him after he changed it.
>>
>>32269566
Well, see you on saturday.

Do you really have a completely static IP?
>>
>>32269566
>I don't really frequent the hugbox.

What to do with the thread tho? archive it or let it die till next time?
>>
>>32269617
>maybe you should
No. No, he really shouldn't.
>>
>>32269617

>>
>>32269613

>>32269617

>>
>>32269665
