Last time on Ravnica Detective Quest!

You, Dicktrashy, Pie-Eye; self-made goblin and aspiring private investigator accepted a job from the merchant’s daughter Vela Zod. You agreed to steal back her green lotus medallion from her friend Emarea Dabara before her coming of age ball. You scooped the place out and found it locked up tight. To assist you in your slightly illegal outing you’ve come to the lab of Doctor Staris, Simic researcher and around nice guy-thing. You are currently waiting for him to get down from the web of rafters that crisscross the upper area of his lab.

Startis is nice and means well but can be unreliable, give him enough time however and he could whip together anything. He doesn’t get many visitors unfortunately, or at least second-time visitors. The good Doctor finally finds his way down, sliding on a silk rope that dangles from the ceiling far above and after only a moment of unsteadiness he manages to land on his feet. All eight of them. You’ve never asked why the good Doctor replaced his entire lower torso with that of a giant spider’s but you’re sure it seemed like a good idea at the time. The more pressing matter is of course the minor crime you’ve been hired to commit that might not really count as a crime but still is.

Staris is touchy when it comes to such matters, it’s much easier to lose Simic licenses than it used to be, you’re going to have to handle him gently.

[] How do you present the situation to Staris? Write in...

Also we have a pastebin now I feel like a real QM, http://pastebin.com/nBfpprPT

Don't know if you're still here but maybe just tell it as basic as possible. Two lady friends are having a squabble (of course) and your clients friend is keeping a precious item she needs for her big day.
>>

Solid! So long as one player is here so am I!
>>
>>32309678

“Well Doc, I’ve got some lady trouble.” You begin
“Well I’m not sure if I can help you in that department.” Staris cuts in. “I’ve no interest such puerile relationships, unless of course it’s some ‘augmentation’ you need, haha!”
“No no Doc,” You stammer. “Nothing like that, I got one girl keeping objects from other and she needs them back and quick, see?”
“Ah! A material matter that I can most certainly assist in, though I remain confused, I don’t really see where I come into the equation.”

To remind you, the hurdles you face that you know of include the Orzhov guards at every door; the clockwork butterfly alarms in the balcony gardens; the servants that will no doubt be roaming the halls and the law circle that surrounds Emarea’s room. The later you already possess the means to bypass.

The good Doctor has a variety of research project old and new lying about, that he could find if he looked, be creative.

Hrm. Does her room have a window? If so, we could maybe spider our way up (perhaps some sort of special adhesive/magical gloves or something). Combo with some sort of invisibility or active camouflage so it's harder to see us. Nice to know we can already bypass law circles
>>
>>32310270

This specific law circle.

I've actually forgotten to at Vela's token to your inventory
>>

“I’m lookin’ for something to help me with wall climbin’ you know unassisted like yourself. Maybe something to make it hard to see me while I’m doing so.”
Staris pauses for a moment and scratches his abdomen, a habit that had never stopped weirding you out for the nine years you had known him. “I think I may have what you are looking for but looking may take a while and I have work today, come back tomorrow and we’ll see.”

Disappointed but not surprised you thank the good Doctor for his time and head back out, some time has passed and it’s getting dark. You could check out the spire again but you’re not sure how valuable that would be. You could go home and get some sleep for what might be a big day tomorrow or maybe you could be a bit daft and head to the pub.

Short visit to the pub, and then home for sleep.

Also, Ravnica Noir is the best idea ever. I fucking loved the original Ravnica books. Agrus Kos is great.

You never know what you might learn when you go relax at a pub. And information is a detectives bread and butter

HOLY SHIT!!!

Feel free to suggest pub name while I type, you know it takes a while.

Make that three. Also, I think the pub should be named directly after a card.

Perhaps against your better judgement you decide what you need is a drink and some stale food, from your favourite pub The Mizzium Drum. It’s not your favourite because of the stuff on the menu mind, stuff’s edible at best and toxic worst, you like it because the right people go there. Squatting in the winding Skitterbrick Ally that runs between Tin Street and Foundry Street, it collects both scum and trader like rainwater in a gutter. You could commission plate armour, call a hit and even bet your life away in those halls; the latter being something you almost fell prey to a few years ago. You don’t gamble anymore.

You can also get a drink and not be bothered usually, Bazo the Barkeep knows shady things go on but makes not allowances for violence the little Cyclops that sits on the doorframe seems like a bouncer of some kind to, not that you’ve ever seen him do anything. Tonight the place is as smoky and as stinky as it always is, a comfortable uncleanliness if there ever was one. You could just get something to drink and go but you could go fishing as well, you’d have to know what you were looking for.

Rumour fish
Let's find out more about our employer
>>
>>32311213
How big is the 'coming of age ball'? Would there be rumors about it? Might be worthwhile.
Other useful rumors would be listening for anything or anyone that could get us in past all those defenses.

Also, like the other guy said, learning about pur employer would be good.

Make a skill test. For the uninitiated you have three dice in skill so make two checks at 3d100.

One for the ball stuff and one for Vela stuff.

DC 50 for the ball DC 85 for Vela

[X] Fish for ball information and Vela’s

No one seems to know much about Miss Vela Zod beyond what you already know, her family deals in textiles and art and she’s a beautiful young girl that’s about to come on the market as a woman.

You have more luck with the ball itself a smith with a daughter working in one of the spires tells you how all the young ladies of the merchant families have such a party. The dances are light and simple surprisingly with the main event being young men bringing gifts of art or performance to impress the one coming of age. Any slip up at her party could set back Vela’s social status for some time.

[] What now P.I.?
>>
>>32311612
I wonder if any of the guards come here. Knowing when they have breaks or switch out would give safer times to sneak in.

If none are here though, just go home and rest
>>
>>32311612
Well, if the rumor mill doesn't have all its Indriks pulling it'd probably be better to have a look at the other patrons before going home and getting some shuteye.

I am going to do that, personally. Will be looking for this quest in the future.

Checking in the faint hope that one of the guards you saw today might frequent the pub, you find nothing and decide to call it quits for the night. Taking a kebab wrapped in brown paper from the bar you head off home. On the way you are attacked by a cat attempting to rob you of your treasured kebab but you fight it off a feel like a champion; which is the best indicator you’ve had all day that it’s time to go to bed.

Your apartment is a modest affair, clinging to the side of the three story building it clearly breeches several building codes simply by being attached to. Two rooms, one for eating and cooking the other for entertaining and sleeping, you use them both often enough. You could rummage through your things for something to help with the case but you’re tired and so you hang up your shirt and your hat next to their brothers and fall into bed. You dream of dice carved from gallstones and cackling merchant daughters. You need to stop having kebabs before bed.

And that’s it for tonight, once again I’ll try and run tomorrow and if anyone follows me @CaptanCarthage I’ll post updates there. Thanks guys I almost thought the dream was dead but you pulled it out the fire, see you next time and watch your backs P.I.s!

Thanks for running, have a great sleep.
