Last time on Ravnica Detective Quest!

You, Dicktrashy, Pie-Eye; self-made goblin and aspiring private investigator made a house call to your old friend Doctor Staris and convinced him to provide you with tools to larceny. You then went to The Mizzium Drum, your favourite pub and found out the importance of Vela’s coming of age party but disappointedly little about the lady herself.

You wake in darkness, sleeping face down is not something you’re prone to but yesterday was exhausting for some reason. Pulling yourself out of bed and crawling to the cooking area (calling it a kitchen would have been too kind) and grabbing a handful of kaffa beans from your sack to chew you into wakefulness. Goblins can survive on a vegetarian diet but it’s not ideal, you would eat more meat if you could but meat is expensive and you’re cheap. For individuals in your position raw kaffa beans are a popular way to keep teeth ground down. You keep a full sack in your apartment and top it up often, drinking the beverage just feels wrong nowadays.

Before you made your break yesterday you were still working a non-lethal profession, in the past few years you’ve always been able to fall back on you skills as a STORY POINT ACTIVATE

[] Dance instructor, from solo to line you’ve done it all.
[] Street artist, chalk on the street can bring in a surprising amount.
[] Fiddler, the stings hold no love for you but mother insisted and that was that.

You shoot your stacks of chalk on the table a nostalgic glance out of one eye. Oh those were the years, just you and your chalks creating whatever you felt like; one day a sun that took up most of a courtyard the next cute little characters scattered throughout the garden paths. The City has a way of wearing down on that kind of stuff though, you started figuring out the kind of work that brought in the coins and then people came to you with political commissions for guild and businesses. You did them all and the rest got angry you weren’t their personal propaganda boy, thing almost got ugly before you pulled out.

You’re not thinking about that just now though, you’ve got a case to crack. You know the place pretty well by now but you don’t know the guard shifts exactly and a map of the place might be nice. If indeed you were even going to go through the corridors. It’s early but that won’t matter to Doctor Staris so he’ll probably have your gear ready. Your apartment is a bit of a Cave of Wondrous crap and there might be something useful lying about. You’ll also need to decide what to wear today.

Your apartment is a bit of a mess right now and you don’t feel like dealing with it so you decide to visit Staris. Staris is never tired and only requires one hour of regular sleep allowing his to get a staggering volume of work done. When he does have to sleep he just goes, shoos anyone out the lab and he’s out like a light, it comes off as rude but it’s also precise. One to two every day Doctor Staris will be asleep, you don’t set your watch off the plaza’s bell tower you set it off Staris’s sleep cycle. It’s seven just now so he’ll be active and you can go fetch your things.

Finishing the remains of last night’s kebab off before you go, because hay meat is meat, you see the sun is just as powerful as it was yesterday something you know would play merry hell with Staris’s physiology if he ever left the lab these days. Arriving once again at the conical building that he occupies you take a moment to admire the design before it reminds you of that spider-ant nest that used to be a the end of your street and you get the shivers and scurry in. Staris is downstairs today (not that there’s any stairs) working of what appears to be a rhino lacing all limbs and it’s head; you don’t comment however that’s never been wise.
>>
>>32332635

“Sup Doc?” you say “Did you find those things you were looking for?”
Looking up from his corpse Staris gives you a grin full of silver teeth and says “Yes my boy I was right on half a count!”
“Half?” You reply incredulously
“Well I was right in that I do have something that will augment your climbing abilities and it was a research project as for concealing you well I do have something but it’s not a research project.”
“Well what is it?” You ask full of hope
“Thus cloak!” He replies full of enthusiasm, producing a dark rag.
“Ah.” You counter removing any trace of both. “And the climbing?”
“Ah now these are rather cute, micro-layer finger and toe pads that use spider derived griping hairs to adhere to surfaces.” Staris places a set of small cylinders on the table for you to pick up.
“Gee thanks Doc.”
“Put then on shortly before trying whatever it is you’re up to, I’ve only got on set, now any questions about function?”

>>32332388

"Uh duration? I'm not sure in test the were uses with human and vedalken subjects and the hairs became non-functional after about twenty minutes. I can't say how long they'll last for a goblin."

>Or that my phalanges'll slip out?

"Unlikely. Highly unlikely. Super duper unlikely."
>>
>>32332663
How long will they work, plus how to remove them when we don't need them on. Be bad to adhere to something when we don't want to
>>
>>32332880
>how to remove them when we don't need them on.

"...."
"Doc?"
"I had not thought of that. If you need a hand just leave one clean, the pads with die on their own."

Yet me know where you're done guys.
>>
>>32332979
Well, I'm good. Dunno about the other guy.
>>
Alright time's up!

Taking the Doctors gifts, including the cloak (he insisted), you head back out into the sunshine. You can’t stay and chat time is money, you’ve got a job to do. As you leave a memory strikes you, an Azorius public records office might have the spires building plans and there’s one to too far away. I would take the whole day however to cut through the red tape it would no doubt be tied up in, you ask yourself, “Is it really worth it?”

[] Head back to the spires

Plus, scout motto. Be prepared.
>>

>[] Head back to the spires
Perhaps it's time to see how patrols operate here. Maybe also see how the girl who's room we are breaking into spends her time. Figure the best time the room is empty and guards are far away
>>
>>32333172
[x] Get a building plan
I'm positive it'll either be out of date or incomplete and relying on it will bite us in the ass, but it's still better than nothing.
>>
>>32333292
Well, being old could be good too. Old vents or servant passages that were forgotten could be on them after all
>>
>>32333292
>>32333221

The Azorius have perfected tedium, it’s magnificent really how something can require so much concentration and yet yield so few results. The heat doesn’t help as you fight through twenty-eight multipage documents for the rest of the day, a constantly twittering bird familiar watching over you like a school teacher all the way. When you finally get the plan from the fat, dead-eyed man behind the bars you snitch it from his grasp and practically stop all the way home. Studying the plan you see that the building’s sewers narrow sharply at certain points making entry form there a no go. There used to be four ground entrances you guess one mush have been bricked up and then done over. Apart from that you just get a better sense of the corridors and the rooms and try to commit it to memory.
>>
>>32333554

The next day you repeat your morning routine and think what you will do today.

[] You’re a smart kid write in…

Kaffa beans in hand you head out to face the day, you went with shorts, floral shirt and straw hat today. A bold choice, sure to turn heads. The sun has subsided today and there’s a strong band of cloud cover come in and the air feels heavy, there’ll be thunder tonight. Spending the day in the spire you log the guards change times, they’re slick and precise so you’ll have no gaps but the is a blind spot where the old door used to be. It strikes you that you have five days left till the ball, you’ll need to move sooner rather than later.

[] Tonight
[] I’m not ready yet

[] Tonight
>>
>>32334026
>Tonight
The thunder will provide cover for our entrance and as we search the room. We will need to be quite, as the girl will be in there asleep (we hope). Once we secure it, we probably will have to sneak out via the halls. Hopefully that cloth helps with that part
>>
>>32334026
One more day of observation might not hurt, but they probably aren't paranoid enough to wildly vary the guard shifts and routes. Eh, the sooner we go in the sooner we find out what the missed crucial element was, because there's always one.

[x] Tonight
>>
>>32334173
>>32334258

You’re happy with what you know and you’re going to kick this place’s ass, walk out with the medallion and no one will be the wiser. Trashy you clever devil this is gonna be easy money. Proved nothing goes horribly wrong and in that spirit you head home and begin the final stages of the planing. It’s all in your head everything you have everything you need (http://pastebin.com/nBfpprPT).

Now how about the specifics?

Emarea’s room is on the opposite side to the guard's blind spot so what’s the plan of entry?
>>
>>32334371
Now the question is this. Do we enter through the window and exit via the hallways somehow, or do we go hallways and exit via the window instead. I think we should try the hallways. Cause a minor disturbance to lure the patrol away, then sneak our way into the room. Once inside, check jewelry box, grab the target, leave the note, then open window, don adhesive glove, climb down and get out of dodge
>>
>>32334473

Finger pads but fair does. Any objections?

If not we'll be rolling out.
>>
>>32334514

I'll take that as not objections then?
>>
>>32334706
Seems that way
>>
>>32334473

As you predicted darkness has fallen and the rain and thunder have started, summer weather can be like this, highly unstable. It suits your needs though and you have the floor plan in your head so a ground level entry seems in store. You throw on the clock Staris gave you and it does its job well of keeping you dry and shady. The guards are sitting under a small overhang in the door frame when you arrive, to shelter from the rain. they don't notice you as you slink between spires.

The market stalls are boxed up for the night, how are you going to make a disturbance?
>>
>>32334812
Well, we have that multitool, we could fiddle with the market stalls. Don't see how that would really help though.

Maybe pay somebody to scream for help?
>>
>>32334865
Well, If we loosen up the joints on a stall, it could easily fall over after a short time in this storm. They would check it out in case it was worse, but with luck they'll see it as just an accident via the storm
>>
>>32334865

It is a horrible night you can't see anyone but yourself and other guards being about.

There might be a function in the multi-tool but you would have to have an idea what you were looking for.

Otherwise you'll have to climb up.
>>
>>32334921

With stealth this could be achieved as it would have to be in sight of the guards, the noise of the storm would conceal it otherwise.
>>
>>32334966
I'm down for that. What're we rolling?
>>
>>32335020

Agility and skill in which you have invested three dice each.

Agility for your stealth at DC 60 and skill for multi-tool functionality at DC 50.
>>
Rolled 3, 5, 2 = 10

>>32335071
So, this for stealth
>>
Rolled 13, 92, 84 = 189

>>32335103
My bad, that was 3d10
>>
Rolled 38, 89, 76 = 203

>>32335071
And this for skill.
>>
>>32335103

Had me scared there guys

And a little excited.
>>
>>32335180
I forget, is it roll under, or roll over?
>>
>>32335180
Ah well, he rolled well when corrected
>>
>>32335128
>>32335145

Slipping from the shadow of the spires as the guards engage in idle chatter you spin the third dial of the muti-tool in fain remembrance of a screw function and aha there it is. Loosening the joints of the stand’s structure you slip away again and wait, confident you have not been seen. After a few tense minutes the stand collapses and as you hoped the guards go to investigate.
You dash to the door and place your hand on the handle praying that it’s not locked and are rewarded by the silent sliding of hinges as you slip inside. You’re in and have barely taken a moment was the breath is ripped out of your lungs as you freeze in terror at the sight of another guard. He’s sitting in a chair with a slack jawed look on his face, the look you realise with relief belongs only of a sleeping man.

You’ve come out into a large hall similar to Spire Zod’s but lacking the mana elevator it had nestled in its centre. Winding stair cases coil up the side of the spire’s insides into high roof. The stairs seem like the only way up besides the dumb waiter you remember from the plans but operating that from inside would be difficult and has no guarantee of being quiet.

[] What now P.I. the medallion’s on floor seven.

>>32335184
Roll over.
>>
>>32335404
Whelp. Guess we're climbing stairs. We'll need our arms for the climb down after all
>>
>>32335511

You manage to keep you bearings heading up the stairs and mercifully run into no servants. Arriving at the door you are sure to be Emarea’s you pause, something’s off this is going way too easy. Putting your eye to the key hole you see nothing but blackness but you think you hear something. Replacing your eye with an ear provides you with the most unhelpful sound of the Lady Emarea Dabara softly crying.

Oh dear.

[] Fall back
[] Enter regardless
[] Wait
>>
>>32335651
Is she crying in the dark? If so, I think we should slowly sneak in and use the darkness as cover. We got that cloak after all. Waiting in the halls means potential guard patrols.
>>
>>32335717

Mighty ninja stealth route selected!

Confirm your choice buy rolling three d100 at DC 90 for stealing her stuff right out from under her nose.

There's no way this will float. Krokt is a god of bad luck...
>>
>>32335809

Fear of thunder is not unusual and in this case it strikes you perhaps you can work it to your advantage. Sliding through the tiniest crack you could possibly make you slink, almost crawling along the floor. You are stealth; you are the night and you will steal this bint’s medallion if it’s the last thing you do. Emarea herself is sitting upright on the other side of the bed with is mercifully on the opposite side near you. She appears to be with a servant who is comforting her, so at least you won’t feel guilty for leaving a girl crying alone in the dark. You find the medallion easily enough in the second top drawer of the dresser and are ready to slink back out when it hits you, the clod blast of air from the open window that is.

Wait. If she’s scared of the thunder why is the window open, thinking about it why did that servant have to shirt on and looking even deeper into the matter why is there a faint blue glow coming from the pair? Oh fuck…

And that’s all we’ve got time for tonight guys! I’m going to bed and so should you and we’ll resolve this next time.

As always I’m @CaptainCarthage if you care about updates and you’ve been great so watch your back P.I.s and I’ll see you next time on Ravnica Detective quest!

>>
>>32336257
Blue mana magic I guess. For what purpose who knows. The person the girl is with could very well have been someone acting as a lover to her prior to this and is now stealing information out of her or something.
