Last time on Ravnica Detective Quest!

You, Dicktrashy Pie-eye were infiltrating the home of Emarea Dabara to steal back the valuable Green Lotus Medallion in time for your employer’s coming of age ball. This was going really well until you reached her room. Despite a display of covert skill the like of which The City my never see again your may just be struck down by your own damn sense of justice. You’ve always had the worst timing on these things, the thing about arriving in the nick of time is that you have to be the one that does something. So needless to say, walking in on the young lady getting some unspeakable magics fed directly fed into her cranium wasn't exactly ideal.

You’ve always had this problem, wanting to play the hero and it’ll win you friends but it might just get you killed in the process. There is an open window right there and the tall dark figure is distracted bewitching the poor girl with whatever flavour sorcery he likes. You could leave, you could just go and the only person that would ever know you were here would be Vela Zod and even then you might be able to bluff you came on a different night. These are some really crap excuses Trashy.

Well here we go again Trashy, you just can't stop falling on those swords can you? Luckily you have two things you bet this bozo doesn’t: the ever popular element of surprise and STORY POINT ACTIVATE

[] The wrath of the storm at your fingertips - electromancy ought to give him a shock!
[] The mastery of mystique - Illusions will catch him by double surprise!
[] The skill to put a sucker on ice - Cryomancy will get him to cool off

[X] The skill to put a sucker on ice - Cryomancy will get him to cool off

You’re a bit out of practice but all the years of standing on street corners with your father sealing cool refreshment taught you well. One of only three children born with any mana aptitude, it would be fair to say you got more than you fair share of attention. Darc’s Self Cooled stand was always busy, something about the gimmick of having you drink cooled right in front of you just spoke to people and you did good. You’d been off it since Dad passed away but in fear and exhilaration of the situation you find the spark again and you’re ready.

Shouting “Freeze!!” might have been a questionable choice but you had always used a lingual focus and you didn’t want to chance failing.
The momentary look of dumfounded shock on pretty boy's face was deeply satisfying before your icy beam made contact, right between the eyes and spreading form there to cover the best part of the face. All this took about three seconds.

In a monument pretty boy is swing blindly round the room roaring in pain, which was amusing until he made a significant dent in the stone wall. The hell was this guy? Emarea’s stopped crying but she’s looking groggy and looks like she’s about to stumble. The open window taunts you.

[] You’ve made your bed now sleep in it - help Emarea out the rom
[] You’ve done what you can - time to go
[] You can take this guy - show him what for

>[] You’ve made your bed now sleep in it - help Emarea out the room
He's after her and I don't think he got a good look at who attacked him. And as much as I want to restrain him, we are not a fighter and are rusty at our magic too. Plus she could get injured in the fight
>>
>>32395968
[X] You’ve made your bed now sleep in it - help Emarea out the rom
Yeah, not going within arm's reach of this guy.
>>
>>32396118
>>32396494

You’re gonna have to get this girl outta here, the guy’s a beast. You her by the hands and lead her towards the door with pretty boy wrecking up a storm behind you, clawing at his face and the air. No sooner do you get out the door however that an ancient ginger woman appears from the shadows and begins to swing a candelabra at you with not small amount of skill and a great deal of wailing.

“Lady!” You try to reason with her, “It’s not me you need to be worrying about.” Attempting to point at the bedroom without receiving a concussion.

You succeed in getting her to look at the whirlwind of destruction being wreaked by the young man in the bedroom. The ice around his eyes have finally dispersed and he emphasises the fact by fixing you with a death glare laced with hate. He charges you, faster than someone should be able to and in a moment you see your life flash before your eyes as his teeth and nail elongate wickedly ready to tear your throat out. He might just succeeded to if he hadn’t bounced off the golden barrier that sprung up before him in the door way.

Taking that as your que to leave you grab both Emarea and the maid and book it down the stairs, right towards the oncoming Orzhov guards. Thinking fast you shout “The bedroom! An intruder!” and blissfully they run right past you.

[] What now?
>>
>>32396590
Well I guess once we know the two are secure and fine first, we gotta head out. We still kinda broke in after all. Besides, we may end up coming back anyway on a new job involving this incident
>>
>>32396828

Riding on the wave of confusion and panic you reach the bottom of the stairs unmolested and set down Emarea on one of the loungers in the main hall. Feeling your civic duty done you attempt to make quick you escape but are cut short by the vice-like grip of the maid around your wrist.

You turn and gaze into an old face full of a confused mixture of suspicion and relief. “You,” She spits “why shouldn’t I have those guards falling you like a ton-of bricks young man? And for that matter what where you doing in there in the first place?” Ah the maid you had almost forgotten about her and you were hoping she would still be in shock from the whole man-beast affair.

How will you placate the old bint into letting you go?
>>
>>32397035
Shiv her. Slink away into the night.
>>
>>32397106

You are bereft of shiving implements.

Also you don't kill old ladies.
>>
>>32397035
As much as I hate to say it, if it weren't for us being there, the young lady may have had a worse fate this night. I think we should avoid answering why we were here in any event unless it comes absolutely down to it. Heck, the theft between friends thing might be a known occurrence after all...maybe
>>
>>32397035
Tell her we're a PI hired because a friend of the young lady (drop Vela's name if necessary) was concerned for her safety and about the competence of the guards, apparently for a good reason. Now if she'd only do what she's paid to and looked after her mistress so we can see to our own job.

Try to be as confident as possible, like we have every right to be where we are and do what we just did.
>>
>>32397317
That's a good point. Not a full lie nor full truth

I forget, did we or did we not place that letter before spotting the man?
>>
>>32397472

You did, you never need return here.
>>
>>32397472
>>32397317

“Look Lady,” you say “I’m not saying the young Miss over there would be missing body parts if I wasn’t here tonight; but she might have been missing body parts if I wasn’t here tonight.”
“True,” she concedes “but that still doesn’t explain why you are here.”
“That…” You struggle to find an explanation that won’t sound like the total lie it would be and come up blank, reluctantly you namedrop. “… would be in the nature of my employment by Miss Zod and I would advise you take it up with her and the young Miss.” You begin constructing elaborate contractual obligations in your head related to the safety and a tirade against the incompetence of the current security.
Upon you mentioning Vela however the maid’s expression slumps with practised distaste. “Ahh Vela Zod, I should have known. Let me tell you young man that lady is nothing but trouble, I feel sorry for you so I’m going to let you go. Now run along before I change my mind.”

Her iron grip releases and you vanish into the night without further trouble, the guards engaged in a running battle upstairs by the sounds of things. You make off in the opposite direction of your home and cut through alleyways in what is no doubt a needlessly paranoid attempt to shake off a non-existent pursuer. Reaching home the best part of an hour later you quickly make your way in and hide the medallion in your Kaffa bag. You're beginning to shake from adrenaline withdrawal and cold, you’re soaked though and the thunder just won’t stop.

It's late, we're tired, and her place is close to the other place, so guards are going to be active. Let's just take it in the morning, when it would be less suspicious of a goblin coming in
>>
>>32398020
I'll agree on the condition that we put the medallion in a safe or lockbox. Call me a metagamer, but I've got a feel in my bowels (which isn't from the tacos I just had) that we're going to have a visitor tonight...

Chug down a few more mouthfuls of kaffa beans and get back to our feet. Prepare for a stakeout on our dear employers estate.

You’re too jittery to go to bed, and you really want that 200 denner, you’re making that delivery tonight and wrapping up the matter. This job has brought you enough headache so you garb to handfuls of kaffa and the medallion from the bag and a head back out into the night.

The journey only takes ten minutes with you taking a sane route and with a quick step. Arriving in The Spires in the air in tense and it’s not just the lightning, patrol officers and guild officials are milling about and there’s a rather large chunk missing from what was once the wall of Emarea Dabara’s bedroom. A cordon has been set up to keep out curious spire aristocrats. This actually make life easier for you as the street being empty except for you might have been a tad suspicious. Arriving at Spire Zod you quickly gain entry surprisingly quickly after giving your name to the door guard but all the same he escorts you all the way up to the balcony garden, eyeing you all the way. You find Vela under a large free-standing umbrella sipping some sort of steaming beverage.

Turning her head sideways at a perfect nighty degree angle she chirps “Leave us.” Her voice being in the space between amused and strained.

Vela pats a chair beside her indicting you to sit, which you do with no small amount of discomfort. Your seat gives you an excellent view of the gaping hole in Spire Dabara.

Vela turns you holding a powerful grin, “I trust you can explain, Mr Trashy.”

well, I snuck into her room. got this right here *hold up the medallion* and found someone using blue magic on your friend.
I rescued her, and promptly left.

"I live by a simple set of rules: I take a job, I complete it. Once I've done my job, I get paid .No further complications, no questions why there was a stone smashing, claw growing berserker monstrosity brainwashing your "friend." I'm here to deliver on my part of the contract."
>>
>>32399224
Heh. I like this.
>>
>>32399224
>>32398932

“Well,” you begin “I was in there retrieving this.” Producing the medallion for effect, Vela’s sarcastic clapping doing little to deter you. “I was in there minding my own business, when I spot your friend getting a handful of blue mana to the face and I nobly stepped in. You’re lucky I didn’t stick to my normal code of take a job, complete it. Once done, get paid .No further complications,”
“How heroic?” She counters.
“Indeed, it was” you continue “heroic of me to stand up to a stone smashing, claw growing berserker monstrosity brainwashing your ‘friend.’ ”
“Just give the medallion here Trashy.” And so you do, you then wait as she examines it to her satisfaction. After giving a pleased “Umhum!” Vela says. “Your pay will be with you tomorrow, we’ll talk again Trashy. Now go home before you get yourself in more trouble.”

Not risking her further wrath and confident in the strength of your contract, you jog out and head back down the elevator and out the front door. Making your way home you see guild officer in white taking statements and hurry on before you become a target. Getting home for the second time tonight, you’re almost too exhausted to get through the door, with hours of activity weighing down on you and the kaffa wearing off you strip and fall into bed. . You dream of still images depicting scenes of all kinds, pastoral childhood proceeds violent crime which proceeds fine art. You have the funkiest dreams.

And that’s it for tonight folks! Thanks for coming and thanks for staying. As always I’ve been @CaptainCarthage if you want updates and we will NOT be running tomorrow but I’ve got a good feeling about Thursday.

Watch your back’s P.I.s and I’ll see you next time!
