BOOTING SEQUENCE ESTABLISHED- STARTING PROGRAM

A swirling matrix of data surrounds you, composed of symbols you do not recognize. Slowly, from the melange of confusion, recognizable symbols and words start to appear.

You are woken from your slumber by a loud beeping from your computer desk. It's your Digimon V-pet, flashing and freaking out. Huh- you didn't even know it could light up. You pick it up and look at the screen, where an egg is wiggling and wobbling.

You look down at the egg as it pops open in a shower of sparks, revealing a beeping little monster. It looks at you through the screen and waves, as the screen's light grows brighter and brighter... It's getting too much to handle...

You open your eyes slowly, wincing at the bright light above you. The sun? How did you get outside? Looking around, you quickly see that this isn't home at all...

You find yourself in a copse of odd, pixilated palm trees. To your north, you see smoke.

You pick yourself up and dust yourself off, hoping the source of the smoke wasn't anything dangerous.

After 15 minutes of walking, you find your worries unfounded, as the smoke is rising from the center hut of a cute little village, populated by small, bloblike creatures. In the center, what looks like an old man sits next to... the creature from your V-Pet! Gabumon! The old man notices you, and waves.

"Well, I'm fine- I mean, no injuries or anything- but what's going on? Who are you? What dream?"

Jijimon sighs, stroking his voluminous moustache.

"Ah, I forgot- they never remember the dream, do they? Alright, alright. As I said before, my name is Jijimon, elder of File Island. You have been called here because you embody ideals of strength and kindess... and you're the only one we could find with a digivice."

"Digivice?" As if on cue, your pocket starts to beep. You rifle through it and pull out your v-pet, still with Gabumon's picture on it. You look at it, and then at the real thing in front of you. It smiles and waves.

"Good to meetcha, partner!" Jijimon looks at the two of you and chuckles.

"Oh, my mistake! You two haven't even been introduced! Bulk, this is your digimon partner, Gabumon. Get to know him- you'll be together for the long haul." Gabumon hops up and walks over to you, standing behind you.

"Awesome- I like it! Bulk and Skull, ready to take on the Digital World!"

"Digital World?"

"Yes indeed!" Jijimon pipes up, leaning on his cane. "This is the Digital World, the reverse existence to your analog universe. Right now, you're on File Island, and we're glad to have you."

"Well, look around, Bulk. Tell me what you see." You look through the village.

"Um... Everyone's small?" Jijimon nods.

"Well, they weren't before. File Island has been hacked, and all the digimon have either been degenerated to In-Training or driven completely wild. Ordinarily, a hack like this, while inconvenient or even dangerous, is almost always temporary- but this damage hasn't been reversed yet. This leads me to believe that the hacker is somewhere here, on the Island. Your mission is this- find the hacker infiltrating our island, and defeat him. After that, all should return to normal."

"...Wait, everyone was reverted to In-Training or driven wild? What about you and Skull?"

"Skull is protected by you and your digivice, and I was born old."

>>32402070
>>32402015
You scratch your chin in thought. "Alright, I'll do it. But if we're going to make it through an island of wild Digimon... We're going to have to get stronger. Is there anywhere we can train around here?"

Jijimon nods emphatically. "Of course! There are training dummies towards the back of town- you can practice to your heart's content there. Or at least, you can do so until Skull here gets tired, hungry, or... well, needs to use the facilities. Have fun!"

"Speaking of hungry..." Skull frowns, rubbing his growling stomach. "Can we get some food?"

"Of course," says Jijimon. "There's a Meat field just over there- Tanemon should be able to help you.

>>32402592
>>32402565
>>32402544
You look around the field and see a tiny green creature with a bulb on its head pouring water onto the meat from a watering can in its mouth. You walk over to it, curious.

"Excuse me, are you Tanemon?" The little creature looks up, dropping the watering can to the ground, and nods, smiling.

"Hiya! You two hungry?" Your stomachs answer for you. "I'll take that as a yes! You can each take ONE Meat from the field per day. Got it? We need to have enough for everyone! And give me the bones back when you're done- we need them for replanting!"

>>32402541
>>32402552
You and Skull look at each other, grinning, and immediately snag a hunk of Meat from the ground- it comes out without a spec of dirt- and chow down! It tastes heavenly, and you're down to the bones after a minute. Skull drops onto his butt, patting his distended belly happily.

The two of you, now full and content, head over to the training dojo, where a Koromon is lounging. He wipes his eyes with his feelers as you approach.

He collapses into the dirt, sighing with fatigue.

"How... How'd I do, guys?"

The Koromon sniffs. "Well, you didn't do as badly as I've seen some others do it- I'd call it a success, if only a minor one."

It wasn't a problem. He was originally just stating the fact that, at the time and to our character, it didn't matter what direction we went in, since we didn't know where anything was and were just exploring anyway.
>>
>>32406765
when you ask for a choice, you need to make it a meaningful choice for the character AND the player. What's important is not the result of the choice, but what the character is thinking and why they decide to make the choice.

When there is no difference between the choice, no description of each direction, and no prior knowledge of where things might be, the choice becomes meaningless. There is no reason to pick one choice over the other, and it becomes the same as a random pick, which you can simply roll for without waiting for player choice.
>>
>>32406853

You stand up, patting Skull on the head. "Sun's starting to go down- let's head back, huh?" Skull nods, yawning.

"Let's hit the road- 's a good idea..."

The two of you shuffle back through the quiet forest, to the village. Most of the little digimon are asleep, but Jijimon is still waiting by the fire.

"Welcome back you two. Busy day?"

>What will you do?

"Yare Yare Daze... It's getting late, we should head back."
>>

Ask Jijimon if there's anywhere we can rest.

Pretty busy first day. We fought a wild digimon in the forest.

"Yep, Skull here is a pretty tough puncher."

Rest for the night.

"Yeah, actually. Got some training in, and won our first fight- decisively, even." Jijimon claps, impressed.

"Good to hear! We'll need that strength in the coming days. Now, if you'll follow me, we have some beds made up in the town hall..."

>Bed time!

Meanwhile, on Mt. Infinity...

"So another human has appeared... Let us watch him. If he impresses me, perhaps we shall invite him to join our cause."

"Yes, my master."

Thanks for running! Might want to actually say 'End of Thread' next time.

Also, archived the quest for you.
