>DC = 20 – WP = 17>4, 18, 3>Success!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSqm5Id6Hw0A thing from out your nightmares approaches the camp. Childhood nightmares, you try to tell yourself. You've spent less than twelve and a half standard in this world. The servitor takes clunking step by heavy power-assisted step towards the campfire as you retreat towards the tents to wake the others. The two of you slowly waltz under the light of the crescent moon to the crescendo of your own beating heart. You wonder, maybe at a later time, if servitors keep their human hearts of flesh or if they’re replaced by the cold efficiency of a pump. But yours is not the path to know the workings of the machine. You clench your jaw against the cold of the night. The servitor chatters and suddenly turns its torso left from its approach towards the fire and it lets off a rapid staccato of shots. The shots are not as loud as the slug throwers you've heard and fired yourself in your life. Of course, this is your first encounter with a machine of war such as this. The legs turn to follow the upper body as it tracks something rustling in the bushes beyond. You take advantage as it moves away from the camp and dash back to the tents. You open the tent flaps to find Ander waking the other boys. Alizabeth is awake and sitting up, staring at you through the open flap, while the two other girls snore lightly. You hurriedly wake them up, and the eight of you converge, weapons in hand and flak vests thrown on.Night vision preserved by the fire cover, you can make out the servitor in the darkness, some meters away. Three rapid cracks in succession from its gun, and it turns and advances on the campfire once more with a whir of motors. You won’t get any sleep until it goes away somehow.>One well-placed shot to take it out>Rush at it in close quarters>Distract it with autoguns, strike at it in melee>Distract with melee, blow its brains out from afar>Wait it out>Other

>>32433942>Shoot it from multiple directionsMelee may be our forte, but I don't think we want to get into melee with something that can't feel pain and has no sense of self preservation.
>>32433962Can we get the rest of Squad 7's stats posted as well?
bugger, looks like I'm going to miss this, at work right now, but I'll see if I can't throw in a vote if I've got time>>32433942>Distract it with autoguns, strike at it in meleehave someone in cover distract it, then strike from its blindspot to immobilize it and hopefully damage its armaments, then we can move to finish it off
Rolled 11>>32434008and>>32434041are exclusive of each other, therefore:Break the tie within the next five minutes or:Evens = Shoot it from multiple directions and avoid meleeOdds = Distract it with autoguns, strike at it in melee
Please roll 1d20. Will Evangeline be taking one of the autoguns or striking with her sword? The other autogun will default to Ander.
Rolled 12>>32434212Who has a melee weapon other than us?
>>32434275>You and Bartamaeus both have a gladius with your backpacks. You notice the rest of them also have one of three other weapons. Rena and Fortuno have short spears. Ander and Sabbatine each hold a short-pattern autogun. Jakko and Alizabeth wield hatchets
>>32434302Well, that was close. Writing.
Rolled 10>>32434294Alright, have Ander and Sabbatine shoot from 9 o'clock and 6 o'clock, and try and draw its attention. Then, when it has turned, Rena and Fortuno will run in from 11 o'clock and 4 o'clock, jab the thing, and run away.If it's still moving after that, Ander and Sabbatine will fire again, and then Barty and Evangeline will move in for a strike and away.
Sweet, made it just in time for Schola Progenium Quest!
>>32434363I don't think rushing it is a good idea, any melee should be there to distract the servitor while the autoguns do their work, but heading straight to it would paint a giant bulls-eye on them.
>DC = 20 – LEAD – 1 = 16>12, 13, 20>Success!Sabbatine and Rena still have their blankets with them. You motion to them to give you one. You drape one edge over you head and motion for the others to stick their heads under as well. You unclip your flashlight from your belt and hand it to Ander. He shines it on a patch of dirt devoid of grass and you take out your knife to draw on the ground. You mark an X in the center. “This is our bogey, a gun servitor. Armament sounds weird.”“I only heard it as I woke up, but sounds similar to non-lethal riot rounds,” Ander says. You mark two circles to nine o’clock and six o’clock of the X. Another six go between twelve and three o’clock.“Ander and Sabbatine stay back and fire a shot each at it from a distance,” you say tapping the first two circles. “You’ll be the distraction. Wait a bit for the six of us to get into position first, so we can strike it from behind as it goes after the two of you.”Nods. You continue. “Rena and Fortuno, you two strike at it first. Jab at it, try to disable the gun first. Get away from it quickly. If it’s still standing, fire again at it. Then Barty and I can finish it off. Alright, make sure your flak vests are secure even if what Ander says is true.”No complaints all around. Your boots crunch the grass as you move into position. The servitor is now at the fire and walks all over it, putting it out. You’re in position. You wait for half a minute, and two shots ring out. They plink off of cybernetic parts.Rena and Fortuno burst out of cover, screaming, and bury their spears into the servitor’s back. It chatters and swings its torso around with difficulty to fire at Fortuno. A round discharges with a crack and he drops with a yell that sounds like “scat.” Rena gets back into cover unscathed. You can hear her panting and crying in the bush near yours.(1/2)
(2/2)Two rounds bury themselves in the unarmored back of the servitor and it turns back around to address the greater threat. Now it’s on you. The beating of your heart matches the staccato of the servitor’s gun and you clench your sweaty hand around the grip of your sword.>Strike at its head>Strike at its torso>Try to disable its gun first>Other
Rolled 11>>32434779Try to disable its gun. I don't think anything fancy will work and I doubt servitors will shut down just because their head is knocked away.
>>32434779>Try to disable its gun firstIf it's non-lethal rounds we're dealing with it's not going to be programmed to beat us to death if we disable the weapon. I hope.
Rolled 12>>32434779>Try to disable its gun first
Roll 2d20. You guys have read the Fear mechanic right? Evangeline has a childhood fear of techpriests, servitors, and bad cybernetics. This gun-servitor is a Class 1 Feared opponent, and if you fail the first d20 on Willpower, you'll take a -1 on the second d20 for Weapon Skill.

Ander and Sabbatine don’t fire again in fear of hitting you, or at least you hope. You haven’t heard any cries of pain from them yet.You keep behind the servitor as it tries to face towards you. You can’t do much at this point anymore. You’ll tire sooner than it ever will. You keep behind its back a little bit more until you’re sure you’re facing the right way.You roll away from the servitor, dropping your sword. It finally turns its entire body your way and advances towards your prone form. You shout.“Ander, take it down!”One second, two seconds. Mierda. Then, you watch Ander jump down from a low tree branch, roll onto the ground and begin shooting the servitor. He pulls the trigger four times. Three smash into the servitor’s head, one into its neck. It staggers for a few seconds, then topples forward. Fluid that isn’t blood pours out of its skull and the smell of charred electronics assaults your nose. The servitor continues to twitch a bit.>Mierda mierda mierda está muerto está muerto está muerto>Make sure it doesn’t get up>Head immediately back to the tent and sleep>Other

I count the first option winning at three votes, but I'm not sure. I can write it as a combination of the first two but the third one is exclusive to them.Writing? Unless there are any strong objections. You know how long I take anyways.
>>32435903My vote is for MIERDA mode to be internal and try to appear not-freaking-out to our team as >>32435814 suggested.

>DC = 20 – WIL = 17>11, 18, 17>Success!You get up and brush dirt off your clothes. You need to appear cool and calm in front of the others. It wouldn’t do to freak out. You stoop to pull out your sword from underneath the fallen servitor. The twitching winds down.Ander lowers his autogun from aiming at the downed machine, sits down, and whispers to himself. You barely catch it.“Throne, the first time I’ve ever killed something with a human face.”The others come out of the brush and from behind the trees. You don’t pay attention anymore.“My watch is over. I’m going to sleep. You guys clean up,” you say over your shoulder. You can still hear the crying of Rena. You pass Sabbatine on the way to the tent, and she just stares at Ander. You throw off your flak jacket, clean your gladius on the grass, and promptly wrap yourself in your blanket inside the tent. With your blood pumping and adrenaline rushing through you, you hadn’t noticed how cold it was. Alizabeth enters the tent soon after, and you will yourself to sleep. You wake up earlier than everyone else. Someone remade the campfire in the night. The broken servitor still lies some ways away, but you just sit by the fire and drink from your flask. The morning light peeks through the trees, but thick clouds dominate the sky.
You sit there for a bit, just feeling the breeze go through your hair and soft touch of the cold on your cheek. Eventually, you hear the waking noises and groans of the others, and they all eventually filter out of the two tents.>???101/130 km
>>32436517Let's get a move on, at this rate we'll be the first back. Keep an eye on Rena. Two outriders, rest in column (same patrol as before).
>>32436517check to see how they are holding up after last night, talk to Rena especially, see how she's doing and help her with any troubles she has, she seemed to take last night rather badly, we might want to stick close with her todayonce thats done, pack up camp and head onwards to the scholar, with the same layout as before >>32436544>Two outriders, rest in column (same patrol as before).
>>32436544Sounds like a solid plan!
I'd like to wrap up the thread soon, but I know I can't get you guys to the Schola gates by the end of this thread. How do you guys want to do this? Should we just stop here and play out the last day of the trek in the next session?
>>32436853I don't mind too much either way, but I'd prefer to get to the gates before the end of the thread, feels right to conclude the thread on that note and begin the next after

Rolled 13, 15 = 28>>32436853If you have more planned for the journey, then take it to the next thread. Otherwise, timeskip?
I'm trying to write the next update and get you guys to the gates, but it's just not coming to me. I'll call the end of the thread here. Next thread on Saturday.XP gains2: Base1: Killed a servitorHow's my writing so far? General things, like what you like, what you don't like, where I can improve. So I'm not stuck in the same rut this whole time. Today is actually my first attempt at writing action.I'll stick around a bit longer for questions and stuff. I was surprised at the lack of speculah last thread when I did quite a bit of exposition.
>>32437153Thanks for the thread OP.I'm not finding any problems and I'm having fun, so whatever you're doing, keep doing it, only critique (and its kind of nitpicking) would be post times, you could be a bit faster, which would get through more content each thread, but its not an issue to me as long as you keep the threads coming.Cya on Saturday.
>>32437153Thanks for running! You always start so early my timezone that I can only join at the very end, so I don't get to contribute a lot, but that's okay. Seems like you have more readers at your time anyway.I think your writing is fine, perhaps a bit generic for quests but at least it's generally edited well and you don't write in painful cliches or the like.
>>32437153The only reason I get to contribute is because I am a NEET with a horrible sleep schedule. That said, I think your writing is functional, but not yet evocative. You are definitely able to describe what is going on clearly, but I don't really have a feeling for any of the characters, except Barty who I'm pretty sure is supposed to be a little shit.Sorry this is late, I fell asleep for a bit
