You are Shax Gloombreaker, Chief of the Cave Goblins! No one told you being chief would be so BORING, but you've been working through all the preperations to get the heck out of dodge and leave all the clerical work to your associates. The good news about being a demi-god is you can just drop a cave at all the places you need to be at and just hoof it over there.

"So we gotta raid this dumb castle thing? Are we getting the full crew to do so?" Sitri is in your massive dining room in your crystal palace, looking towards you gobbling down food. You like to have breakfast with the team, but usually only Sitri, Fetidclaw, and Bearbreath show up.

You nod vigorously, "Apparently there is some sorta super magical crystal thing there, and I gotta make sure the boys aren't up to no good. You know those boys." The people you're eating with haven't actually spent a lot of time with them, so they just nod to keep you satisfied. "Still, I got a small amount of work left to finish up. After that, we'll go hit up the stinky elves in Valenwood."

"I'm sure they don't smell that bad," Bearbreath says. You're not sure what that is supposed to mean.

Alright. Minor clan appreciation time it is! Writing.
>>
Sitri idly toys with her food, while propping her head on a hand. "Why not just placate minor clans? If everyone likes you, who cares about the Deviloozes or Toothtwisters? They're just spouting gibberish to whoever is listening, so if you talk too, there won't be a problem."

Oh, she's got a point. After the meal, you look up Seere and get a list of which minor clans might be good for addressing greivances. Apparently most of the complaints are the same: They pay too much tribute to the main tribe, they have to send too many warriors off, they don't get enough say in decisions, etc. Baby complaints. So you gotta make them feel important!

First up on the list is the Murderstench clan. You figure you'll take a couple of promising young goblins and take them in as personal raiding assistants. After that, you cut down their supply quota of soldiers to make up for taking the talent. This seems to make them happy.

After that, you head over to the Ragemucks. These guys are pretty popular, even if their tribe isn't huge. They got some large goblins, and they all use a special sword invented by a creative Ragemuck. It's like a sword with a weird hook on the end. The same deal you offered to the Murderstenches doesn't work here, instead the tribe in whole insisted they got to lead their own 'units' in your 'army'. You aren't sure you have an army, but you ended up agreeing, getting several cadres of Ragemucks now running around your crystal palace.

You figure you only need one more popular clan, and while the Bonefires didn't want to speak to you and the Spiderdrools insisted you would bring ruin to them all, you did get the Sludgestomachs a favorable goblin bazaar platform which got them on your side. The three clans on your side pull enough weight politically to keep the smaller folks happy with you.

Alright! Time to reunite with the boys! Writing.

Do we get to ride treebro?
>>
You figure it is time to get reacquainted with the boys! You dump the rest of the work onto Seere's lap, and tell Auntie to keep everyone in line before heading out. Hopefully they can handle this stuff since you got everyone calmed down and in place before making the trip back to the surface. It's been a long time!

The ride is familiar, and with your new troops in tow (Several Ragemucks, a few Murderstenches, and small collections of various other volunteers) you haul them off towards the familiar forest and head to camp. When you get there you find... a very disciplined and structured encampment. There are even sentries waiting as you approach. A scout salutes(???) and disappears. When you arrive, the dracomagus is waiting for you. "Hello, Shax. I have drilled your troops some. Hope you don't mind." You smile, nervously thank her and get out of her presence as soon as possible.

There are rows of tents, and apparently your troops have been reinforced some. Everyone is in nicer gear, though Nost is still carrying his magic hammer when he greets you. You immediately pull him aside, "What the heck is going on here, Nost?"

"Oh hey boss, not much. The lady said we needed more discipline, and started yelling at us till we did things right." He might have mumbled 'i kinda liked it' but you decided to ignore that.
>>
You shoot her a glare, "These are my boys, dangit. She can't just boss you around." You ignore him saying 'but i kinda liked it' again. Looks like you're going to have to have words with those thighs! Whoop approaches you.

"Greetings, honored one. This one has missed you. The one left in charge has proven a boon to your organization, but this one is eager to be parted from her company."

Thank goodness. Whoop is always so sane and responsible. "Hey, Whoop. Gather up the rest of the smart ones," You look at Nost, before covering your mouth and leaning in, "You know who those are, right?" Whoop guillessly nods. "Good. I need to talk to 'em."

>Confront the dracomagus directly! These are your boys!
>Thank her for her work and ask her to leave real quick.

Still... as you walk through the camp you can't help notice how neat and structured it is. It probably makes getting things done a lot easier. A whole lot easier. There is even a small grove for the tree guys you rescued. One waves at you as you walk by. That's cute. He remembers you! You guess it has only been about two months since you left, so it isn't that big of a surprise. You wave back cheerfully.

The command tent is very prominent. You notice some people you didn't remember leaving. Like a few small groups of dark elves, mostly sticking to themselves, and dozens of small, black kobolds. They make weird barking yipping and chattering sounds as they scurry about. Maybe they're here cause of the dracomagus? You walk into her tent.

"Hey! Sorry for blowing you off just now," You scratch your head with an apologetic grin, "I was just surprised at what was going on."

The lady tilts her head, and shrugs, "Understandable. You had quite the rabble here, but I've gotten them more or less in line."

Yeah, well goblins are supposed to be a rabble, right? "Well I appreciate it. What'd you do anyway? I gotta keep that in mind since I'm taking over." She seems surprised in your interest, and runs through the basics of camp management. "I see, I see. Thanks!" Doesn't seem like she has done anything particularly criminal.

"Well, since you're back I am assuming the raids will resume? Maybe with some demonic reinforcement from our mutual patron?" Ooof. You forgot about that plan.

"Aaaactually, I gotta go raid a fortress in Valenwood so that front doesn't completely collapse." The dracomagus gives you a flat look. She didn't like that response at all. "Soooo, if you don't mind. I'll be resuming command..."

"I see." She uncrosses her legs and stands up, "Well that is certainly interesting. I'll leave you to it then." You're in charge again!

>Walk around the camp, see what everyone has been up to!

Anyway. Let's play catch up! Writing.

Hmm, now that he is out of the way, it is time to see what the boys have been up to! Your first stop is the duergars. You announce yourself as you enter the tent with, "Hey, Milda! Where are you at?" And find the brothers yelling at maybe a half dozen kobolds.

"No ya blighters, don't mess with that or we'll all get blown sky high! Oh, hey boss." Judging by the eyebrows, this one is Dorle. "That lady had the bright idea of training some sappers who are a bit more, ah, disposable. So we've got a few lizards here I could trust with some grenados, but I'd avoid giving them anything high yield." You don't know what those terms are so you believe him.

>Dorle and Mani have gained several Kobold disciples! They worship the flame. You've got more sappers!

You look about, "Looks like your hands are full, what has Milda been up to?"

Mani hits a Kobold on top of it's head, "Keep your hand down on the switch ya maniac, oh and sis? I dunno, she's been running around doing paper work forever it seems like. You might be able to catch her in one of the command tents."

>Milda has gained 'super clerk'! She can file all the health insurance claims you'll ever need. Not that your troops get insurance.

Time to catch up on the goblins. You spot Gneb walking off somewhere nonchalantly. "Hey, Gneb! What's going on?"

He glances back at you, before jumping in surprise. "Oh! Boss! I didn't know you got back. What's up? I've been stuck training goblins in spider riding since you've been out. Several of the new boys are real keen on it."

>You've gained spider cavalry! Gneb apparently leads it.

"What's Rund or Xab been up to?" Those guys just can't stay out of trouble!

He glances around nervously, "Rund, ah, kinda went off his rocker. But Xab has a small devoted cult of kobold bodyguards. Also a dark elf lady follows him around everywhere, but never talks to him for some reason."

>Xab has gained a fanatical kobold cult! Also a stalker?
>>
"Off his rocker, what's that mean? How could anyone be loonier than Xab?" It's a legitimate question, you feel.

Gneb shrugs, "Guy is convinced he's going to die. Gotten real paniced, and has started to wear some crazy armor. Been using a big axe, too, says it'll keep him alive. Seems to work alright in the raids we've done, though. Some other boys started copying him."

>Rund is now a tank! Wearing super heavy armor and using a giant axe. He's apparently got a small squad of people like this. The look more like trash cans than proper knights.

Mnar, Nost, and Truz just lead regular infantry units, but they apparently have been training as commanders. As for specialists, the Toothtwister twins have got a weird cult going on with some of the dumber goblins, and they all use these hooked spears. Kinda intimidating. The treeguys apparently avoid most of the people here, but get along great with Milda. They have enjoyed living in the forest and have apparently planted plenty of saplings out here. You wonder how they'd feel about your crystal palace.

Whoop has the new fish guys disciplined, and has brought more in. The two trolls are kept at arm's length by the rest of the raid, though Alfonse responded to your return with maybe a slight hint of emotion? You can't tell.

Seems like you've got a genuine army now. Raiding that castle should be a piece of cake!

>Make an announcement to the boys! Impress all of them! You're the boss and they should know it.
>Just get the main leaders in a council and tell them what is up. You are the boss, so that means delegating. No need to talk to every single soldier.

Well you've got an impressive group of soldiers now! But are they loyal? Only time will tell. It's time to get their attention! You head to center of camp. You need to get everyone's attention somehow? Oh, you know! You get Sitri to play some music while you walk to the middle of camp while Allonces and Bearbreath shoot magical fire works. You slam the sword into the ground, placing both hands on the guard and look around, satisfied with everyone's undivided attention.

"Listen up! A lot of you are new, so you may not know this. But here is one simple fact: I'm the boss! When you're with me, you listen to what I say. You boys are a scraggly lot, but you got some steel in your hearts. So that's why we're gonna go win this dumb war for the underworld, get us lots of fat loot, and eat other people's food that we didn't have to make ourselves!" Plenty of cheers are heard. "To do that! We gotta smash up some fort. Apparently the Underworld Empire's best and brightest can't crack it open and get some sorta heart. Well, they ain't got the moxie we do! No one is better at cracking stuff open than we are, right??" A chorus of agreement. Even the kobolds seem to be getting into it. "So let's do this thing, get all sorts of comfy elf loot, and save the dang war effort!"

That seems to have gotten people pretty amped and cemented you as the boss, you think. Both pretty important. You get Milda to give you a list of what your resources are and who you've got as raiders.

Nost, Truz, and Mnar each lead a group of goblins about fifteen strong. Rund leads six super heavy armor goblins. Kuzr has a squad of about eight scouts, and Gneb has twelve people in his spider cavalry. Xab has twenty kobolds completely devoted to him and a super strong dark elf bodyguard who creeps him out. You got two independent groups of dark elves about five strong each. Twenty three fishmen and Whoop lead a good amphibious assault unit of javelineers and spearmen.
>>
>>32439402
time to make crystal cave

Milda, Dorle, and Mani have about six trained kobold sappers under them, and several trainees. You have three Murderstenches serving as squires for you, and three groups of Ragemucks under your direct command, each being a group of about twelve goblins.

Dropping a gate here is a good idea anyway. Cements us as a big shot even more, but also because we're about to get a recharge. We should do it even if we're gonna march over land.

>>
You quickly drop a gate here, fascinating many of your minions in the process. You quickly explain to them that you're a demigod now, or something, and they all seem to take it in stride. People sure do adapt to the weirdest things quickly. Speaking of which, you really ought to get back to studying your powers.

Ordering the small army to march, you immediately realize you got more than enough to raid all unfortified places easily. Your boys steamroll a small town nearly immediately after setting out. Jeez, it was a cakewalk. After that, you spend some time just walking through the plains, most adventurer groups ran away or just avoided your group because of sheer numbers. This'd probably attract a ton of attention.

After a few days pass, you get a good grasp on this whole 'laser' thing, able to focus your natural control of light to shoot a small burst from your palm. It doesn't do much damage, but it is pretty bright. If you hit someone in the eyes with it, then it would probably be pretty awful to be hit by. In addition, you can make some of those glowly light birds. They're like little bundles of energy, and can explode with some decent force. You can manage three at once before you start to lose the ability to hold their form. It's worth practicing, probably?

After casually steamrolling another village you near the border of the Valenwood. Absolutely massive trees skirt the horizon of this giant forest. The Matriarch gave good instructions on how to get to the fortress from here, but you sure hope you don't get lost. You have bad experiences with getting lost in forests. How do you wanna proceed, boss?

>Scorched earth! Let's raze the forest as we move along towards the fortress. It'd be slow going, but you can't really get ambushed easily.
>Book it! We'll murder our way to the fort quickly, but we'll get hit a lot along the way.
>Establish a foothold and then scout the area.

Yes, they're called DIVINE WRATH and CRYSTAL ANNIHILATION.

We should totally blow up the wall with a crystal spear, even if it's just rattling sabres. As far as shows of force go, you kind of can't beat that.
>>
This is a lot of trees. And you definitely don't know how to get through them that easily or quickly. Time to take things slow. While a part of your goblin brain is screaming to burn the forest down around your head, you've learned to ignore that one stupid idiot goblin part of your dumb stupid goblin brain that is always trying to get you killed. Besides, the tree guys probably wouldn't like it, and they are radical.

You gotta establish a foot hold. You get a certain distance into the forest and start leveling the place, and making a makeshift fort. The tree guys do their best to try and 'correctly' remove the trees and replant them elsewhere, but they can't keep up with the needs of the raiding group. Bearbreath and the treemans start getting along famously. Milda is a big help here, drawing up plans for a temporary redoubt and getting everyone organized and in place for assaults.

Sending kuzr and his scouts out alone into the forest seems like suicide, so you get some dark elves to help him out to check out the place. Brokagh tags along with Kuzr as a stealthy bodyguard. They're mostly looking for strongholds, villages, anything like that. You're not super confident in their success, but you figure it is better than nothing.

"Hey, Allonces, you're from Valenwood, right?"

"Hmmm? Yeah, I am. Why do you ask?"

"Well.. we're raiding it now. You fine with that? We might murder your parents or brothers or something."

She shrugs, "Honestly, even as ridiculous as you are now, I'm not sure you could kill my mom and dad. They're a little absurd power wise. So I'm not too worried there. Tearing down Valenwood... well that's a little more complicated. Let's just say I like being alive and employed more than worried about my ancestral home, though."

What do you want the scouts to look for?

Allonces is officially best elf.

Let's raid villages.

Then why were you so weak Allonces?

But if you see anything interesting or special or rich tell Shax and we'll raid that too.

You know, I think Allonces might be a psychopath. She is very unconcerned about moral values and has poor impulse control.
>>
>>32440494
Ask Allonces if there were any mean people who bullied her when she was a kid.
We can totally murder them for her.

We don't want to draw any more attention to us than necessary. The last thing we need is an army attacking our raiding party and home base.

Maybe her parents aren't the stereotypical slowbreeding elves, and they have like 200 children by now. Since they don't really have the time or the nerve to bother with teaching every single one of
how the become strong, they just send them off on adventures to find their own way in the world.

You take it easy for a while, waiting for the scouts to show up. With Brokagh and the dark elves thre shouldn't be anything to worry about. Still, you don't want to be lazy so you spend most of the time waiting by shoring up and reinforcing the defenses of the little redoubt you've got. You chat up Allonces about her home. She doesn't have many super fond memories of the place, but she wasn't bullied or anything like that. Just raised as a proper young elf villager girl until she ran away from home to find some excitement. She only had one older brother, and she doesn't know what he's gotten up to. He was about fifty years older than her. Boy, those elves sure stay active throughout their whole lives, don't they?

Eventually your sentries let you know the scouts are back. Well, some of them anyways. Brokagh drags a bloody Kuzr into camp, surrounded by half the dark elves you sent out. "No good, boss. That place is a death trap for small groups. If we head out, we're going to need to be ready for non-stop ambushes. The forest has eyes everywhere." That's just the worst news. Brokagh spits out a tooth before continuing, "Couldn't get anywhere without fighting for our lives. If we head out, boss, we're heading out blind." That sounds dangerous! Very dangerous.

You give Allonces a look, and she just raises her hands. "Hey, it's not my fault." Yeah, you guess it isn't. "But it might be my brother's... He does lead one of the larger ranger groups out there." Oh. Well, maybe you can use her as bait somehow? You bring up the idea with her, "Yeah, I mean you could try. But seriously, if my parents hear about it this place could straight get wiped out. They're pretty much monsters."

>Let's get a move on that fortress. Let's try not to bleed too many troops along the way.
>Use Allonces as bait to try and get the rangers out of cover. If we can take them out we can properly scout! Her parents can't be that strong, can they? (spoilers: they can)

Do we have our pearl shipment? If we have, just make a portal and retreat. Stick a big sign saying "Enter, if you dare."
Retreat and walk around the forest and enter from a different angle.

No pearls yet. But you can get them by waiting a little. Like a few days.

You probably wouldn't get attacked in that time maybe perhaps

>>
>>32441233
Set out an easy enough/tasty bait and I doubt they'll pay it much thought before it to late.
>>
>>32441202
Let's wait the few days. That was the initial plan anyways. And elves use ambush tactics so they will not have much against a fortified camp.
>>
>>32441103
Wasn't one of the reasons for setting up a foothold to wait for our pearls? Let's do that.

Changing my vote to wait for pearls

It seems compatible with other options anyway and I doubt people are unwilling to wait for the pearls.

Alright! That's it for today. I expected the thread to move super mega slow, so I'm pleased to see that it only moved slightly slow. This opens up the days I can run by a TON, and I can even consider running another quest (or two, though I'd have to run them on Akun if I ran two others). Thanks for putting up with the early start!

As for exp, on early morning threads I'll have to do them on the next thread, since I really don't have the time to resolve a level up or anything like that.

Thanks for playing, reading, enjoying, and just showing up! I appreciate it. We've gotten back to some action, so we'll start moving towards the fort next thread! The plan was to wait for pearls, so we'll say you've got those ready for when you move on the fort. Hope to see you there. I should be able to run Sunday barring anything drastic happening.

As for my other quests, stay on the lookout for them! Both are set in separate post-apoc fantasy worlds, one involves bio-armor mechs and the other involves dungeon diving as a career. It'd be great if you could join me in those, as well!

See you people later!

I like this plan. Let's ambush the ambushers.

We can still use Allonces as bait if that fails.
