Sorry this took so long to post, I kind of passed out. Anyway, I used the name of anon's mutants but that doesn't necessarily mean we need to use that fluff (indeed, we can't because we don't fit the bill of the mutants he described).

Here's the first/creation thread: https://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/32428300/#32428300

I suppose if Genie doesn't come along this'll be a discussion thread.
>>
>>32442765
>(indeed, we can't because we don't fit the bill of the mutants he described).
Not yet at least.

We are still finding ourselves. Also I've begun to archive this in Suptg under the usual hivemind tag
>>
>>32442765
So we have the 4 arm thing as our starting mutation right?

If so I think we need to have our "mother" help us with a climbing mutation. Sticky hands or or something so we can spider-climb.

Also we could use some monkey feet.

Really make use of the extrahandedness
>>
>>32442814

Indeed we are finding ourselves, and I have some ideas in that vein...

Even if we do mutate so that we have the aspects described, the fluff doesn't work because it was origin fluff. I would like to develop their proposed mutations though.

I think that since this area seems to be low in resources (and everything else), we should invest into alternate technologies. Instead of vehicles we should tame the local monsters (possibly psionicly controlling them or developing a symbiotic psy-link), because those only require food to maintain and multiply not resources.
Instead of acquiring guns and stuff we should invest into developing combat-oriented mutations, and we could probably get really good at hand-to-hand combat (that way if we ever do encounter a technological foe most of their advantages will be neutralized).

>>32442916
We got psy-affinity as our starting mutation, because it's a lot harder to acquire psy-affinity if you don't have it than to acquire another set of arms.
>>
>>32442953
So how many turns of work will it take mother before we can fire high powered psy-beams from our eyes.
>>
>>32442765
and my hopes got up for there being another civ...damn genie and its monopoly.

>>32442916
Nope psi affinity was chosen which boosted your populations psi rating by 1.

Basically means non psi becomes negligible psi.
Negligible psi becomes weak psi
Weak psi became lesser
lesser became average
average became greater
and you unlocked a secret level even above greater(damn you).

There are five categories of psi rating

First is negligible so were talking at best being able to spit out a single fat spark or something. Telepathy wise example you if concentrated REALLY could get a very rough idea of how they were feeling. Can't even gaze at their thoughts just a sorta after glow of the emotion or experiences of those thoughts.

After that is lesser psi meaning something akin to very weak telekinesis or if you concentrate to read someone's thoughts.

Average psi is akin to your 'average' psi simply means you don't struggle with the basic tier stuff. So with some work you can gaze into someone's mind, hurl out a ball of flame ect.

Greater psi means you don't have any problems doing the much more powerful stuff like mind control for instance or unleashing insanely hot thrower capable of melting through metal even.

Rank five is known as Exceptional Psi the rarest one can naturally get with something like this you can build an entire cult of mind controlled minions or unleash an entire inferno of flame.
Difficulty wise one doesn't receive any penalties while using abilities within their own bracket. They do however suffer if they try using abilities of a single bracket above them. Anymore then that and its outright impossible unless you get help. Likewise doing anything under you if its a single bracket you get bonuses more then a single bracket and you don't even have to bother trying with any effort whatsoever.

Magic works much the same way the rules for each of them are roughly the same. Makes things simple and easy if you want to mess with one or the other. Plus their optional you don't have to allow it in the first place.

One big thing to remember when it comes to psi and magic is this.

Psi comes from within and magic comes from without.

>>32443344

>>
Rolled 35

>>32443446
A simple way to remember negligible is the fact that it is so weak as to be nigh useless while Exceptional is utterly devastating in power.

>>32443344
Well...uhm when we tried to divert the spring we may have or may not have diverted it to the wrong area. As in sorta hit upon whatever was feeding the stream and caused a geyser/flood to occur. Big one too it came rushing towards us only to hit a sudden dip forming a lake but a part of it pushed forward irrigating our farm. After that when we looked at the devastation the spring has spawned a number of creeks and even a lake. Sadly those other areas aren't nearly as pure as the original.

However, I can support searching the area to see if anything new was churned up during the flood. Don't be so specific about it having to be old world tech though, interesting plants, more food crops, anything is useful.

>>32443752
It seems to me like the ruins/copse of trees had more to it than first appeared. Couple that with the trees being semi-sentient, us having exceptional psy potential (we really need to invest into using that, perhaps even moreso than we need to invest into using our mutability in general) and the fact that our scouts mysteriously wandered exactly NOT into where the ruins used to be and we have a pretty interesting set of circumstances.

Think the trees might be studying us?

Investigated the new flood lands it smashed away a lot of the undergrowth and much rubble. Revealing that this place was once somewhat urban and despite the presence of the trees the underground area is as heavily wrecked as previously thought. Though it certainly is rather crippled to say the least. Mostly it revealed some previously concealed old world structures and catches including some now flooded ways underground.

To be honest I'd prefer hyper-oxygenated blood, super-efficient lungs, or something more general like that. That way we can operate underwater for any reasonable thing (after all, this wetlands ecosystem was formed just a turn ago so nothing is going to be infesting it yet) but don't over-specialize into this biome that we only know exists in the immediate vicinity of our base.
>>
Rolled 58

>>32444074

Sure.

With the resource we hopefully acquire in this endeavor we should set up captivity pens so we can start taming monsters. (Well, more accurately so we can domesticate some of the prey monsters for our agricultural needs. Eventually we'll expand them for other monsters though.)
>>
>>32444151

>>
Rolled 45

Finding tamable animals there are a number of specific very rare requirements. So we looked around to see what could work while we certainly found beasts and such we couldn't find any that had the desired traits.

No joke the requirements for that sorta thing are very rare in the animal kingdom. Domestic-able is only a bit less painful and even more time consuming.

It's not as hard as you would think, actually. Most publications on domestication are overly western-centric.

Also, you've got it wrong. You can tame just about anything (though some things you might have to acquire as cubs), but because taming only means that the animal will cooperate with you that doesn't mean much.

Species that you can domesticate are rare...but that's a bit of a misnomer. It's not that the species that can be domesticated are rare (put in enough effort and you domesticate just about anything you want), it's that species which you can domesticate for a net positive of resources are rare.
Again though, they're not as rare as you might've been led to believe. Guinea pigs and dogs, for instance, can actually be bred to be extremely efficient (about twice as efficient as cows) sources of meat. There's also fish, almost any fish can be farmed effectively. It's just that western scholars (the majority) tend to discount non-traditional domesticates.

We'll work on Psionic Animal manipulation in a few turns, but we should improve our resource collection rate and help Mama make it easier for us mutate and imrpove our psionic potential.

That is for mutations designing one from scratch is a bitch. Much better to force yourself or take it from elsewhere.

Mutants are 'gifted' or 'cursed' however you look at it with an unstable form allowing them to accept mutation much easier.

Mutants have three rough ways to acquire mutation.

Number 1 forced evolution
number 2 mutation acquisition
Number 3 Built from Scratch

Number three is the hardest of them all.
Number 1 carries risks depending on what your after.
Number 2 is the simplest.

Most mutants are stuck with number 1 as its the easiest to do with their unstable forms.

Number 2 requires some tricks.

Number 3 you'll need something special.
>>
>>32446992
>Number 3 you'll need something special
Yep, though Memor did a lot of that. I actually don't remember them ever getting samples to mutate with, they just said "hey, we want mutants who do X". The broodmother helped quite a lot.

Good thing we have a decent mother and Psi potential for psi mutations.

Uh well combat is er was simple enough. Not that complicated some did complain of glare or streaking in their sights while or after using their power. As for exploring...well uh they can do pretty flashes? The stronger ones can even use their abilities to punch through stuff so for many of them its quite taxing. And i will be honest it requires a bit of power which many are not capable of to make it directly useful in combat.

We ALL put our brains together did a whole lot of arguement before unleashing SUPAH Brains to put stuff together. This is what was realized.

Facility was meant for psi research.

Fall occurred populace who survived 'mutated' and somehow picked up the psi affinity thanks to the stuff that was laying around.

Labs were meant to tinker with psi fairly typical affair but apparently had some stuff that helped trigger mutation or at least the psi affinity.

Power is largely down and once upon a time there was an AI along with security elements. Ordinary humans would of parished but it doesn't explain what happened to others.

Others believed to be lurking somewhere nearby or destroyed. Parts of the facility are offline. This includes the security department, tech servers, and as well as comms. Fall wrecked about everything else and what is left is not exactly in the best shape, but its standing at least.

I find it ironic that Memor and the Prophet were meant to be very much Psi-based and ended up in a facility meant for mutation. They focused on Psionics with a Psi-Hero a lot instead of physical mutation.

We're the ones who aren't into Hivemind all to much and want to mutate to get stronger and mutate better with our Mother, and yet we get the Psi-Research facility (not a bad thing mind you).

To be honest we've dug into our psy (so far as non-passive things go, and our own personal psy powers not crystal machines) about as much as the Memor ever did already.

And we're actually doing it right this time. We're not immediately trying to generate immense deterrent fields, we're doing small personal-scale things that are powerful but won't register on any but the most sensitive radar.

That being said, we're in a wasteland and this is a psy research facility we've got...so I'm glad we're mutants who can mutate physical things because security forces will be prepped for strong psi.

This also makes me more suspicious that the plants are psionic.

Machinery and Bots of course, we can always get more resources but we can't get more of those especially since they are unique to our base.

Tend to the farms, and/or expand them or fertilize them (whatever would work best to expand yield). I'm sure that there are a lot more crops we can eat now that we couldn't before so expansion/diversification should be possible.

Don't mean its pleasant or you get all the nutrients you need.

Farms are tended to, crude use of fertilizer is done as well as starting a compost pile. We try to improve what is there and the farm seems to be coming along nicely. Though the plants that survived are of the much more unusual water hungry variety. The other ones didn't make it.

We've scared them off temporarily, until they get bigger guns.

That would depend if they have a reason to come back with bigger guns. They hate the place, the trees, everything.

But I suppose one thing that would make them want to come back is the search for water, which is more available now that we made this place into a wasteland. Their situation must be very poor if they would be desperate enough to venture into wastelands for water, so maybe we could use that.

I don't think that training existing psychic powers requires a resource, but I do think that developing new ones does.

That aside, our psionic research would be greatly bolstered if we got the base cleaned up and functioning again first. We really ought to make that a priority, it's even productive because we get resources from it that we badly need to expand our farm.
>>
Rolled 81

Oh, I just had a thought as to what our standard guerilla tactics ought to be like once we get our psionics trained up some more.

Form into squads where there are several weak/moderately strong psy-users and 1-2 strong psy-users (depending on squad size).
The weak/moderate users in our military will focus on mindfuckery training and illusions and such, whereas the strong users will focus on killing techniques and stealth/camouflage. The point will be that when an enemy patrol is discovered the weaker users will debuff the enemy and make them see things and suppress them while the strong users move in stealthily to pick them off.

What do you guys think?
>>
>>32455214

Food and water surpluses are the foundation of all civilization. If we don't have those then we're not okay.

I could get behind improving defenses, seeing as it looks like our food production is good enough that an occasional hunting trip is enough for us to last for a good while. It seems wasteful to fortify the defenses further when we still need to expand the farms though.

If you're willing to participate in some give-and-take then we can fortify our defenses right now for a turn or two (it's likely most efficient to get the resources for this by cleaning our base), then expand/improve the farms for a turn or two, rinse and repeat as necessary (there are benefits to a multi-layer defense network anyway). That would mean sacrificing psionics development and mutation development for quite a while though.

>>
>>32455493
That's more or less what I am thinking, but I intend to stay vigilant for other sources of farmable food.

A small monster farm or something of the like may be in our near future seeing as we need monster samples to make good mutations anyways.

It seems to me that farming fruits and vegetables is good for our nutrition (a vital part of using our brain power I suspect) that being said we need to diversify our diets, and monsters are an untapped resource we really need to start looking at.

Besides all that without a little more training we are just soft psychic wierdos with too much food. If we don't toughen up quick we will not see thread 4

Hah, yeah it would be super fun to mix with eye beams.

I'm leaning towards just dealing with caravans for the moment, but who knows what the future holds? Of course, once we reach a certain level of power we'll be forced into dealing with other factions.

Our area is very sparsely populated, we probably won't encounter too many caravans OR other factions. Our greatest enemies might up being the trees that help us so much right now.

How do people feel about maybe 4 arms and two strong tentacles?

>implying the trees are reasonable

The trees are just waiting for our population to grow so that there will be more blood for them to consume. Our blood will be theirs mark my words, it will be spilt on their grounds, be it by bandits, monsters, or rampant AI's, the trees will have us...and they can wait..they can wait as long as they need to..

I'm trying to think in d&d terms for extra noob points.
I want them to have fly, or spider climb.
Also invisibility.
All doable in ede's world kinda...

I want them to be able to sense everything in their immediate vicinity using their Psi. Wouldn't take many people to defend our ramparts if we could see them around corners but they couldn't see us.

Can anyone think of any times we've encountered any mutants that weren't at least vaguely humanoid?

I suppose maybe the Mole-people under that one queen-under-the-mountain might count.

Anyway, think that after a certain point of specialization you just get labeled monsters/brood? I have a creeping suspicion that might happen to us.

Probably, I'm on a war path and it's hard to not think of more ways to kill people. I like using our mind to make people *Pop*.

>>32455944
At the moment I think we have a lot down. It's getting it done that will be the problem.

>Get trees to be friends and get their armor.

>Work on our weapon Eyes and other psi powers.
What else ... O yeah farm for brain food.
>>
Rolled 42

>>32455966

Get the base working so we can research psi more efficiently and not have to stumble around in the dark when trying to develop new powers.

The tree armor might or might not be better (or worth it) to get than monster armor or Mama just coming up with some bone plate stuff.

We also need more conventional weapons, enhanced senses (including psy-sense and non eyesight/hearing senses), getting another set or two of arms, and expanding our power.

Working on pop growth rate might be a wise thing to do when we get the chance also.
>>
Rolled 13

>>32455539
Mama doesn't suggest anything.

The abomination doesn't have a name as its no longer Jalson aka he died nor can it seem to communicate.

>>32455541
It only relies upon the user as for the second part potentially.

>>32455658
Beware the more mutations in forced into a single form the greater the odds something goes horribly wrong such as the spawning of a abomination as an example.

>>32455794
Insomnia is fun like that.
>>
>>32456009
Ah so we need to break it up. Like smart mutants with super psi, Giants with four arms and lazier breath. As well as stealth mutations with cloaking and razor claws.
>>
Rolled 26

>>32456009

Aah, I wondered what the limiting factor to mutants was and why all of them didn't have everything.

On the sliding scale, how complex/unstable are our guys getting? Asking Mama if necessary, I suppose.
>>
Rolled 55

>>32456034

Still much fun.

Hopefully the base mutations we have won't occupy too much of the 'complexity quotient' of any breeds we seek to develop. None of them are things I'd particularly like to part with.
>>
>>32456044
I can see the beam eyes and maybe Diabolical Digestion. Other upgrade have been improving base skills and evolving the body to new levels.
>>
Rolled 86

>>32456036
Depends on how complex, potent, efficient, warped and powerful the mutations in question are.

>>32456044
Its less of a quotient and more along the lines of Jenga. Basically the more mutations more the likely something may go wrong or interact poorly with something and BAM abomination. Which basically can happen when a instability kicks them in the ass hard enough.
>>
Rolled 89

>>32456057

Speaking of which, it shouldn't be hard to weaponize diabolical digestion and mutative immune system.

For the immune system all we need is claws that have lymph fluids on them or some other way of delivering our phages. They'd be more effective and longer lasting plagues unto the enemy than most poisons could hope for.

For diabolical digestion...well we've got super acids and super saliva. Pretty obvious, find some way to vom it up.
>>
Rolled 37

>>32456079
However if your good, patient, and careful you can potentially get a lot more bang for your buck so to speak.
>>
>>32456079
I'm thinking next time. We get full check ups on skills and what every one is base it. We know some are weaker psi wise. So there's one group.

>>32456088
Yeah. Maybe give that to our fasts group. They would make great assassins.
>>
>>32456088
I wonder if we could psionicly influence creatures we get our fluid in.
>>
Rolled 55

>>32456101

We want all of our members to have a certain basic amount of psy-potential though, seeing as we intend to have psychic communication and possibly developing a hivemind.

>>32456109
If we invested enough time and effort into it we could rewrite their DNA so they became us.
>>
>>32456109
Hm, That would make us zombie like. But I'm down for the idea.

>>32456117
Yeah, It's more of the pick who's best for what. So we can start them down a path that best fits them. I want one group with mega beams and mind control. But not every one can do it.
>>
Rolled 30

>>32456132

The similarities between mutants and brood have never been so clear to me as they are in this civ.
>>
>>32456177
I can see that. All we need to do is start spreading infestation and we are good to go.
>>
Rolled 56

>>32456190

Indeed. I'd rather not devolve into monsters though, if I'm being honest.

I may content with these guys being evil or neutral, but I'd dislike it if they lost their 'humanity'. Gotta have a greater good goal, you know?
>>
>>32456204
Very true. But maybe we make the infestation heal the waste land. We cure the fall out from the world and remove it when the jobs it done.

But now sleep for me. Have a good one.
>>
>>32456218

Eh. Either way, I feel this civ is going at a slow and steady space and that as we do expand we won't leave much behind or under us to bit our asses.
>>
Rolled 16

>>32456177
A brood is basically a giant mobile ecosystem that either ate or assimilated everything. Hierarchy was very loose and mutation or strains was not nearly so...efficient. That only occurred after M.A.M.A. got nailed.

The familiar Broods arose then. Where before it was something quite different. Broods have a goal, specialized strains, efficient mutation, and a clear hierarchy.
>>
>>32456294

Hmm, interesting way of putting it.
>>
>>32456294

I'd been having difficulty nailing down exactly what was odd about broods and broodlands. Their strange mix of influence/control of wildlife, actual soldier forces, and...still sometimes having competitors/resistors in their ecosystem. I'd been attributing that all to them just being evolution incarnate.
