OPENING
>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F468us4qCUE

Previously: Since arriving upon an unknown chain of islands, a Young Rocket and her friend have become recognized by a village of natives as "Rangers."

Now, with the help of an adolescent taking his first strides into a similar profession of monster hunting, the rocket team seek to find their way back home.

After two islands, they now take a hunting ship to a city outside the dome.

A day out from port and the captain spots a quarry, landing the first blow! With their own skills, and an uneasy alliance they hunt a monster of the sea!

A Young Rocket and her friends engage a monster upon the deck of a ship. While everyone else scattered, she stood her ground to blind the monster, only to be swatted up by its tail as it lifted itself from the deck!

Nearly finding herself lost at sea, Cerulean blasts back onto the boat with a new technique as the veteran hunting party finishes off the beast.

Within the city, Cerulean finds her way to the Ranger's guild, meeting a new race of monstrous human!

Within the guild, a foe stands in her way, through the slipping of her mind, she kills him before his own kin.

Now before a veteran hunter, she finds new aid in seeking a way home!
What does this ally have in mind?
What will Ceru decide to do next?
Will her ship be setting sail soon?

Stay tuned to find out!

Yay, lets go kill us a crocodile.
>>
WOOT WOOT

Time for Hunting!
>>
Time to NOT attack the 20+ Weepinbell hanging around in the treetops!

Also, Prof, what did we bring with us? Hopefully some rope?
>>
>>32466624
Well, we're going to include them anyway in the plan. It's part of why Prof included them in the first place; he even mentioned as such that he wanted us to drop it on the croc.

>>32466473
Prof, can't Marine's radar fin help track down the monster?
>>
>>32466473
Yo Dran I updated Asher's pastebin for you. Only thing you need to add is the complexity values for the cantrips/combos because you never told us how those get calculated. And maybe whatever Alchemy is classed as. I just guessed and called it "Unified Elementary" because that sounds right.

The four of you stay on the less watery parts of the coastline, shadows falling everywhere as the sun angles to set, casting a glow through the mangrove trees, framed by the distant city walls.

You, Kurojo, and Marine set to start trying to scrounge up some fish. At first you're hooked on the idea that you need a rod, a line, and bait.
Kurojo reminds you though, that a fishing spear can work just as well as he reaches for a branch on a tree, only to be grabbed by the Araraki.

He growls low in his throat, crest folding back, “Let go Araraki.” He commands in their common tongue, but the Araraki doesn't budge, slowly shaking her head, trembling in her own right despite her little bit of defiance.

“No.” She whispers, her eyes to the ground. “Please.” She lets go. “We fish.” Without ever looking Kurojo directly in the eye, the lizard sits beside the water, staring down and in with her staff tucked under an arm, the blade pointed backward. Her tail flicks back and forth the scales taking on an orange-ish glow from the sun to accent her lustrous green.

You all watch her, to see what she intends to do. Her claws within the water glow green and the algae stirs, as though it's come to life.

Kurojo begins to say something, but Marine shushes him to keep him from interrupting.

Within moments the Algae moves together, intertwining and lacing itself together.
With a swing of her staff's blunt end, she drives the algae down into the water, something thrashing down in the water.
The Araraki begins to pull and tug, bracing herself upon her scaled feet, sliding slowly through the wet earth.

Marine's the first to move to help, wrapping her arms around the lizard and pulling back, you jump into action behind Marine, freezing your tail and stabbing it down into the soil for even a little anchorage as the three of you try to pull the “line” back.
>>
Kurojo finally steps forward after a moment and launches a vacuum wave into the water, nailing whatever's within

For a moment, the struggle stops. Yet then it picks right back up, with whatever's in the water bouncing around and out of the algae net!

A blue streak flies out of the water!
It has the initiative!

The three of you are bombarded by a barrage of exploding bubbles snapping and popping all around you painfully and forcing you back.

Kurojo slides around to the side, launching another Vacuum wave to knock the thing back, sending it reeling, though only so-far as it does to land upon a giant lilypad with its rectangular eyes and round body exuding frustration.

You, Marine, and the Araraki recover from the initial attack, it wasn't the worst thing you've experienced anyway.

Alrighty then, time to beat a frog!

It stands its ground, watching the three of you carefully. You identify this creature as a Poliwhirl, taking note of the direction of its swirl and size. It's about as tall as you at around four feet.

>It's swirl seems to rotate...
>It claps in a rhythm...

Marine's ready to intercept, watching it carefully.
Kurojo readies his sword, preparing to slice the thing in half...
The Araraki holds her staff defensively with one hand as the other bears a subtle green glow...

>>32466648
Can't we use Marine's radar fin to track the croc in the water?

I'm assuming the Araraki attacks with grass type attacks, because...green.

Water is strong against Water and Ice, so let's use our fighting moves here.

The swirl is rotating, so it's trying to put us to sleep. We need to stop that. Alert the others not to look at the swirl on its body or they'll fall asleep.

Use Snarl to disrupt its Hypnosis (Status counts as Technical, right?) then Vacuum Wave.

We can skip it.
>>
>>32467015
Could be using encore on the Araraki to make it so she can only use that grow algae move.
>>
>>32466843
Definitely Snarl into Psybeam.

Snarl to interrupt it, Psybeam to confuse it and make it get rekt by our teammates.
>>
Combat talk aside, looks like the arakai is part grass type.

I hope my grass/ground symbiote hybrid theory is right.
>>
>>32467050
Sounds good to me.
>>
>>32467069
It'd make sense. Rempiles seem to have plants growing on them in the world of pokemanz fairly often. Pretty much all of the grass starters are like that.
>>
“Don't look at it!” You snarl, ferociously, taking the thing aback some, the swirling stops and it makes to leap back into the water.

The Araraki flings a sphere of green from her hand, hitting home and sending the thing reeling has the ball detonates its energy through it. A second gesture and there's a growth from the lillypad, darting out to restrain the monster.

Marine makes to intercept it, to finish it off, but Kurojo takes the initative, drawing his sword in one motion to cut the thing down. He appears to make contact and drives the thing back into a tree on the other side of the water, but once you get a look, the monster's caught the blade between its hands, struggling to hold Kurojo back until it blasts him back with a sudden goat from its “mouth” and chases after him, slapping the bird hard across the face over and over again as it chases him down into the water.

If it weren't a life or death struggle, it'd actually be kind of silly...

>>

“Arr, Do sometin' t' help m' matey!” You yell to the Araraki as you run ahead alongside the water's edge
“Marine, you're better at murky water, dive in and help, pull them to the surface, we'll shoot the monster!”

“Aye, aye!” Marine dives as she was taught in her near two years at Cerulean gym, a flawless entry, and you recall that her fin will allow her to detect threats in the murk more easily.
The Araraki encircles the pond, running over to the other side sunk down low and dangerous as her palm and claws glow green again, her mask taking on green hues as she gathers energy together

You extend your barrels, readying your guns as the amber nubs slide forward, ready to fire your icicle gun.

The water splashes, obvious fighting within as great lillypads are shoved out of the way by the water's ripples. After a moment, the water breaks and Kurojo's thrown out, only to be followed by Marine uppercutting the monster right out of its home.

You and the Araraki open fire as it's prone in the air. Icicles pelt its body and an explosion of green energy ravages its form. It falls like a rock, plopping back into the water and floating back to the surface.

Kurojo hacks up water, and evacuates it from his nostrils, flustered and a bit weary, but not any worse for wear. He still holds his sword, refusing to drop it even despite the underwater struggle.

The Araraki uses her staff to pull the poliwhirl out of the water and looks to the three of you quizzically.

Well, at least you have your bait now...

Just gotta hope that the wrong thing doesn't bite.

Rig it up from a tree hanging over it, but include lots of slack before tying it down so we can repeatedly dip and splash it in the water, in a pulley-like kind of way.

>>32469161

It's a little late to invest in Aquabatics now. No reason to fight in water if it cripples us on land. Prof just doesn't throw in any primarily underwater scenarios.

It would be interesting if we could go toe-to-toe with a Plesioth or Tentacruel underwater, but it's not worth losing all our teammates(except Marine/Aqua). Maybe when we get an Atlantis type event.
>>
>>32469307

Cerulean's fear gives way, as the Ordile struggles to mount her. She realizes that for all its enthusiasm, it's as sexually inexperienced as she is. The paws gripping her sides, claws digging into her flesh, suddenly seem... endearing, and she fights the impulse to cast off her armor and guide the monster...

The four of you waste no time in dragging the carcass over to some water that flows a bit more readily. Through a break in the misty trees, and the darkening horizon you can see the begginings of the moon reflecting onto the ocean in the far distance.

Aside from being filled with monsters, this is another place that bears an almost otherworldly beauty as you witness the ocean through mist and these strange trees that stand upon their roots.

With the Araraki's help, you manage to dangle the Poliwhirl's corpse in the water, hoisting it up a bit to let it plop into the water over and over again.

It takes some time, and Marine handles it the most with her improved strength.

“Oi, Araraki.” You address the lizard girl, getting a sidelong look from her bone-mask.
“Yer doin' purdy aright. Who taught ye' t' hunt an' fish?”

Kurojo pays some mind to the conversation, doing more to keep an eye out for your quarry and swatting away some of the insects that get a bit too curious.

She lays her staff upon her lap as she squats upon her treeebranch, tail wrapped around to aid her balance. “We learn. Ah, We learn from Father. We learn Green Arts from family. Ah. mm...” She thinks to herself, trying to figure out the words,” We Green Seer. All Araraki not green. But We are.” She nods, and touches her glaive affectionately, holding it closer for some kind of comfort.

“An wha' be a green seer? Be tha' power y' used thar?”

She nods, seeming to think for a moment before turning back to you, still avoiding eye contact, “You... You from Glass City, yes?” Her voice is curious, though you can't see her eyes to tell, and her aura... It's odd now that you think of it. Like there's two of her in one body, and the auras swell and swirl into each other seamlessly and... blur her emotions.

“Aye, I did say tha'.” You get a weird feeling.
>>
“What think? Want home?”

“Um. Aye...”

“Ask too.” She points at Marine, as she's hoisting up the corpse again for another dunk.

“Uhhh, okay.” You turn to your friend, “Hey Marine, Araraki wants to know if we want to go home.”

Marine gives you a quizzical look as she drops the vine again, dunking the thing back into the water. “Well of course I...” she stops, thinking for a moment. “Yeah. I want to go home.” She doesn't really say it with much resolve.

“Marine, you paused. You want to go back, right?”

“Yeah, Ceru. I do, but...” She sighs, resorting to shaking the vine a bit. “I don't know, I've started thinking that it might not be so bad if we took our time. This is a real adventure and we don't have civic guard or civvies breathing down our necks. Isn't it nice to have a bit of freedom? I mean heck, we chose to come out here, right? To hunt this monster?”

“Marine...”

>What do you think Ceru?
>>
>>32469608
We've got a duty to return home. We're Rangers. And we have people we care for back home who think we're dead. We have a duty to them as well to come back as soon as possible.

>>32469608
>It's not that I don't understand you're feelings. It's exciting to be out here. There are so many sights to see and people to meet. Some of them have been pretty good friends to us, like Kurojo here.
>But our friends back home are waiting for us. I won't keep them waiting. We have a responsibility to them and to the Dome, after all. It's not fair to them to let them continue thinking we're dead when it's in our ability to try as hard as we can to return.
>>
>>32469665
At the same time... We're out here, and we've got what seems like a path home. We're also doing things to earn status out here, even if it's in service of our first goal.

We shouldn't laze about, but we can at least continue on doing what we've been doing and -experience- the world outside.
>>
>>32469608
We have duties and responsibilities. To the Dome. To our family. To our friends. To those already dead. We did not earn these powers through only our own merits.

Also, this world isn't safe either. This peace between the three races is a cold war, and we could destroy that balance unintentionally.

We could run away from it all, destroy our Indexes and just live as Hunters, but I don't want to run, not from my duty, not from my Mom's expectations, and most certainly not from my failures.
>>
>>32469608
Take our time but not too much time.

We must learn all we can about this place in order to properly report it to the dome.

Ceru likes being out here but feels a responsibility tot he Dome, this is how she would justify staying out here. Gathering all possible info in order to report everything to Boss.

Heres the thing. Ceru has always lived under a strict, oppressive society and was taught to kill before the age of 12. You honestly expect ANYONE to believe she isnt having the time of her life right now? All these new places to see, new perspectives to take in, all of this ADVENTURE!!!! around her, she probably at the LEAST isnt going to want to hurry back by any means.
>>
>>32469796
THIS, So much this.

It makes the most sense because doing this actually helps the Dome. And Ceru gets to enjoy the world.
>>
>>32469608
So the basic idea seems to be that, yeah, we're out here. We can enjoy our time and learn more about the world outside the dome. But we shouldn't delay ourselves for that. We've got strong ties back home that demand we do our best to return to them.
>>
>>32469608

“Marine,” you stand up on the branch, and cross your arms, thinking of the right words to say here. How you feel about this whole mess.
With a deep breath, and her attention, “I... Like it out here too, but we have a duty to the dome. It looks like we've got a way back, so we should work on it but...” You hug yourself a bit tighter,” It might take a while but...”

You smile, “We can have fun till then. That fair?” You're trying to convince yourself as much as you are her.

A tug between independence and the responsibility you have as a ranger... Kurojo says nothing, but you know that he listens. The Araraki watches on herself, seeming to try to relate to the expressions between you two rather than understanding the words.

Marine's shaking of the bait ceases and she nods with her own little smile,” Yeah, I guess that's fair.”

You turn back to the Araraki,” Aye, me an' me mate wan' t' go t' our home port.”

The Araraki seems to consider your word with her odd aura and nod, saying nothing more.

The vine goes taught.

“It's here!” Kurojo shouts, jumping down with his blade drawn.

“Take 'er alive mateys!” You shout in the common and then again in yours and Marine's tongue, sliding down the side of the tree with your claws, hopefully out of the Araraki's sight now that you think about it.

And that's when you see it.

The Poliwhirl wasn't bit in half, or even bitten into. It was eaten whole by a large heavily scaled monster with the red crests upon its back.
It opens up its colossal jaw, and hisses as its eyes find you coming down the tree, yet that gets it to ignore Kurojo as it opens its jaws.

You'd estimate this beast to be around eight and a half meters, not even including the tail. What in Arceus's name did you sign up to hunt?

The thing lurches, sinking back into the water way, as you see Kurojo fall...

>>32471211
It would rather depend on whether or not an opportunity would rise up for us to get the croc away afterward. It's tempting to use the Weepingbells, but we need to think of what to do afterward. So unless the Araraki reveals some kind of ability to calm down the plants after they attack the Ordile to let us take it out or unless we've got reason to believe the Ordile can take all the Weepingbells out to let us approach it again...

That or we could try and lead the Ordile into that area and try to goad the Weepingbells into shooting it for a bit before luring the Ordile out again to a safer area for our team.

It just depends on the kind of possibilities that Prof can present to us during this fight.
>>
>>32471211

“Kurojo, hold back and get away, we need to get it out of the water!” You yell and launch a short barrage of icicles. “Draw it out!” You shout up in common as the Araraki leaps from the branch, whipping her green energy down at the beast.

With a loud snarl, the monster erupts from the water snapping up with its large jaws, at absolutely nothing. Kurojo lands on its head and gives it a quick cut before jumping off, letting the beast roar in anger and lash back only to be hit by another salvo courtesy of you and the Araraki.

Wizening up, the monster blasts out a torrent of water to knock you out of the tree, forcing you to right your position midair as you fly back some. It was just water though.. You're okay.
The monster lurches up onto land and begins to sprint at where it sees that you're going to fall-

Only to have Marine come down with a fist, smashing the monster's head down into the ground, stunning it for a moment enough to give you each time to recover and reposition yourselves.

Small monsters scatter from the colossal thing, fleeing in terror, running for their lives.

The Ordile growls low as it shakes off Marine's blow. It hurt it, but it's still moving strong.

It's still targeting you.

The Araraki is jumping between the trees, clearly out of harm's way. The area's clear enough for you to use your 3PMG to stay mobile as you shoot this thing.

Kurojo and Marine are a ways behind it, waiting for their openings.
Marine eyes its tail, while Kurojo's eye is locked on its legs.

>>
“I'm going to lure it to a bell tree!” You shout twice as you leap away from the thing, activating the computer for your 3pmg as you fire off one of the harpoons into a tree to best away, in midair you unleash another flurry of shots, beginning earning you the monster's attention as it lunges at you from the water upon all fours at a much faster speed than you expected.

The Araraki takes your lead and throws another small energy sphere at the thing's face, forcing it to reel and buckle. Despite the fact that the Araraki are from a desert, you find that her agility among the trees actually rivals a Kahkori's as she leaps from tree to tree, balancing with her tail and swinging upon a vine that's moved to help her where appropriate.

Marine and Kurojo tail the creature as it crashes through brush and digs its feet through the wet and muddy land. It fires numerous and colossal blasts of water at you, only for you to dodge with a quick burst of the 3pmg's turbines.

It's kind of scary actually now that the thing's distorted its face into a terrifying visage. A look back makes you buckle for a second until the Araraki delivers another energy ball into its head, hindering its action and liberating your heart.

You look ahead and see the bell tree coming up, suddenly breaking off to the side and sweeping a blast of water to disturb them.

Immediately, they lash out with dozens of razor sharp leaves, aiming initially for you.

Your armor blocks some cuts to your body, yet you suffer a deep laceration through your upper right shoulder, the leave buried inside. Your arm trembles and you feel yourself slip a little, your vision distorting and turning red for a moment...

What? We've never had a capture mission with rocket mode. And she did well enough with Kurojo as a teammate during the nar-kage fight, so she isn't going to wheel around and attack her allies or something.

Er, no. Evil mode is also due to mental conditioning/brainwashing. Devon's is natural, but we were trained to think Evil by Kitty (who, likewise, received the same treatment).
>>
>>32472792
But not psychic brainwashing, like some conspiracy theorists have said.

They think that Giovanni and Sylph trust Sabrina and her Espers.
>>
>>32472792
>>32472838
That's why we're pseudo-Evil types. We have the potential to think that way, but we accessed it through training.

The Smolders may be the same way.

Uh, do you understand what's being talked about, right?

They're talking about Rocket Mode not being "psychic" brainwashing; just normal brainwashing.

If you're talking about Sabrina being trusted; Giovanni didn't know about it and reprimanded her for tampering with his cadets' minds without his permission. So there's some political tension going on there.

You grit your teeth and hold back the feeling, no... No... You want to stay in control. The wound is not bad. You're fine. A deep breath, and you push back that dizziness, that strange emptiness that's even unlike your evil techniques.
If you were to compare your evil techniques... it'd be like a shadow versus an abyss.

You land against a tree and adjust your position so that your standing along the side of the trunk.

The razor leaves are soon redirected toward the Ordile, cutting into its armored hide, shredding its hide and face some. One nicks it in the eye and it thrashes against the tree, its fangs icing over as it stands up on its haunches and leap up from the ground to snap at the bells. Several vanish into its gnashing maw. As it swallows them, the others retract themselves further up into their tree to hide away, exiting the fight.

Kurojo comes up from behind, slashing the thing's ankle as he slides by, forcing the thing to fall onto its side, water crashing out of the way as it writhes in pain, its underbelly exposed!

>>
>>32473328
Oh, so we can use Crossroad Killing in combination with weapons?

It would.

>>
You line your guns up and take the time to deliver long icicles into its underbelly, with that cut, it shouldn't be able to stand on its hind legs again. This could be your only chance.

It writhes as the icicles hit home, lining its head, and forcing it to thrash back onto all fours again even harder, only to get hit by another energy ball courtesy of the Araraki from the treetops, stunning it only momentarily as its rage mounts.

Digging in with its legs, it suddenly spins around, lashing out at everything nearby with its tail, catching Marine off-guard as she tried coming around along the side.

She's sent flying for a tree, bracing herself for impact and slumping down due to injury.

“Marine!” You yell, and the thing begins to lurch at her, though cringing and stopping at its own wounds, especially it seems, at the icicles stuck in its belly.

The thing begins to back off, turning back for the water as Kurojo sweeps by it to cut at its tail. The blade stops short in a bone and the thing whips him back to, forcing him to land against a tree, one of his arms hanging limp, and his sword still stuck within the tail.

“Broken!” Her shouts, to inform you of the state of his arm. He must've detected it too late.

The Araraki swings from above throwing down another energy ball as she comes down upon the things's head with the blunt end of her staff, the weight and force of her fall adding to the punishing blow.

The monster trembles and falls, driving the icicles further into its underbelly, courtesy of the ground beneath it.

You circle around, surverying the state of the monster from its recently blind-side.
And that's when you see it, blood pouring out from the thing's stomach, and flesh eroding away round its belly.
>>
>>32473533
It had its jaw ripped off and Prof confirmed last thread that slicing off the Ordile's tail wouldn't cause it to die from bleed out. So yeah, we're fine in terms of puncturing its softer parts.

>>
>>32473618
Not necessarily. If it's not dead in the next post, we could use our ice powers to try and freeze the affected portion of its stomach.

The monster on the ship lost a third of its head and it still lived, so maybe if we can stop the acid from burning up more of the Ordile's insides, we can keep it alive for the journey home. We're close enough to the city anyway, since it didn't take us a day to get here.

It takes a moment for you to figure out what's happened- You must've punctured one of the bells inside!

Oh crap, you were supposed to capture this thing alive! Well, for bonus rewards, but still!

“Marine, are you okay?” You shout over to your friend, hearing a response from her, and seeing her get back up, a little dazed, but otherwise she looks okay.

“I'm here Ceru!” She calls out, readying herself again. That Pewter training made her one tough cookie...

“We need to freeze the acid! The Weepinbells are killing it from the inside!”

You return only to see the Araraki get spooked and jump off of the Ordile's back, the beast thrashing about and dragging itself over to the water, even if only inching while in its agony. Seems like it's in the mood to get away now that it's seen that the four of you aren't quite worth it.

Kurojo comes down, darting for the beast's tail, determined to get his sword back.

Prof, are we able to recognize that the Araraki is using plant (Grass) type moves? Would it be within character to ask her if she knew how to paralyze or put the Ordile to sleep? We know enough about Celadon rangers to know that a good number of grass types are capable of that, right?
>>
>>32473846

>>32473895
It MAY be possible to combine
>[] Tell Marine to assert her strength and flip it over so you can freeze the wound.
>[] Tell Kurojo to let it get to the water, dilute the acid.

If the Araraki is capable of paralyzing or putting the Ordile to sleep. If she is, then let her do so. Then Ceru, Marine, and Kurojo can drag the Ordile's body into the water, dilute the acid, then freeze the wound over afterward.
>>
>>32473846
>>[] Tell Marine to assert her strength and flip it over so you can freeze the wound.
>>[] Tell Kurojo to let it get to the water, dilute the acid.
Either of these works, from an acid containment point of view.

Well, freezing is significantly more damaging, but it doesn't require the acid burn most of the guts to get to dilusion stages.
>>
>>32473949
It's fine if the ice damages it a bit since I assume the more useful portions of the Ordile/Feraligatr are its armored hide, tail, and mouth (for the teeth and possibly skull). Freezing its belly might lower the quality of the meat for consumption, though.

Kurojo comes down, darting for the beast's tail, determined to get his sword back.

“Kurojo!” You call out to the Kahkori,” Get your sword back!”
You turn to Marine,”Flip it over!”

You steady your guns, aiming for its head and hitting it with your psybeam, cold sweat beating down from your brow as this day's starting to take its toll on you. It just needs to be a little distracted for them to work.

You don't know what exactly what the Araraki's been using, but it works... She seems to understand though that the thing's nearing death.

Your beams focused upon its brain makes it smash itself into a nearby mangrove tree, forcing a feww of its roots from the earth, with its weight and power.
Marine dauntlessly slides under as Kurojo grabs his sword with once hand and slides the blade out, further severing the thick tail as it howls in pain.

Marine shoves the thing up, and it's sent standing up, as she backs off to stay out of the way of the dangerous blood.
Back on its haunches, its injured leg gives out and sends it falling backwards, as kurojo slides out of the way with his blade safely in hand.
>>
>>32473846
Think we could use psybeam to disrupt the poison?
>>
With your 3pmg you spring to action and set yourself on the beasts underbelly even as it thrashes to get away. Taking a deep breath you breath frost in through its wound, causing it to writhe, but forcing the acid to stop its destructive function.

The Araraki secures victory by knocking it in the head with one last energy ball, forcing its unconscioussness.

The four of you return to town with a bunch of Lynnians conveniently hauling your kill. A few of them swatting away at some of the peskier little scavengers with literal sticks. Little furballs are brave.

Back at the guild by nightfall, the four of you come in a bit beaten and hurt. Personally, your right upper arm's got a deep cut going through muscle tissue. It'll take a little time to heal, but you already have it wrapped up a bit. This is likely going to scar though, you can feel it.

Some of the older hunters and other attendants among the guild come out to see your catch of Feraligatr, many of the Smolderan nodding, clearly impressed.

“These kids did this?”

“Impressive for rookies.”

“I've seen a bigger one... once...”

Are some of the more outstanding comments from the cats. Some of them around and hold out their fists to you and Marine, ignoring Kurojo and that Araraki.

At first, you're a bit confused until one of them snarls, “Bump.”

You bump your left fist against theirs due to the pain of your other arm. Metal clacks against the metals of their own armor begotten from many beasts, and you feel almost like a celebrity with all of them giving you some respect.

“Blachne Diab,” You hear from a few of them in passing, and you begin to wonder what they mean by that. Not ever Kurojo knows, then again, this is out of his knowledge base...

You're each given a set of little sticks, by a ferrine that purposely blows through each of them to let out certain notes. The sticks look like that currency that Kurojo showed before.
You'll have to ask about it... There are a lot of strategic little dots on these, and Kurojo seems to be just about beamong after looking over them.
>>
>>32475029
Yes. You were rather obvious about it. It's like you forgot what the word subtlety was.
>>
A Kahkori examines the kill in the outer yard of the guild, armored up in many lacquered mails, lacking only a helm and carrying a sword even longer than Kurojo's, as long as this Kahkori is tall actually.
“Fine capture, though it is hurt badly. We will be able to make much armor and line fishing boats with the hide. There will be enough left over for a set of armor, and a weapon made from the jawbone if you chose to pay.”
He gives an eye to the Araraki amongst you, “It is also possible to let the filth have a bone if it wishes.”
Your tail bristles, yet then his eye specifically falls onto Marine, “And what exactly are you?”

The bone for the Araraki is free; the Kahkori doesn't seem to mind if the Araraki gets a bone or not.

On the weapon + armor bit; armor is always good to have and Marine wouldn't need all that much of it; just some leggings and maybe some back protection. Her squirtle shells afford her torso and arms natural protection. And let's see what kind of weapon we could get for her and decide from there whether or not it'd be worth spending money over.

“She be me frien' an' a hunter. Ah'll ask y' not pry o'ermuch.” You cross your arms and defer to Kurojo.
“Marine, they could get you some armor if we want to pay. It'd help protect you at least in the future. I worry about your back sometimes.”

Marine inclines her head,” Yeah, I guess I'll get that taken care of, she scratches at her orange-ish hair with a chuckle.

“We can get a weapon too, anything you want?”

“Um... Well, I've got my shells but they're not really good on monsters this big...” She thinks to herself for a moment, “Brock used to use a club sometimes, I think I'll do that.”

“They're willing to let us use the jawbone.”

“Ooo! Keep a tooth in it and that sounds awesome!”

Kurojo relays that and gets a quote from the Kahkori quartermaster even as he keeps an eye on Marine.

There's no reaction from the Araraki over the whole hunt's payout, she just keeps to herself and tucks the sticks inside of her leather robes.

The quartermaster takes some of the sticks, and writes down an order on some parchment, “It will be ready in a few days. See your sponsor to receive your official initiation into the guild.”

With his departure, you find the Vi-Smohkan within the lit halls of the guild, the other residing hunters watching on in silence as the monstrous “man” lets coals burn, with a few metal sticks jutting out from the controlled fire.

“Impressive that you managed to return, and not even with a quarry to cop out of the task presented.” The Smolder eyes over each of you with his good one, acknowledging all of you, despite whatever prejudice he might have. Now is not the time for it.
>>
The crowd around here are not just Smolders, but all of the races, though still segregated. Some look on with interest, others incredulous at the four of you working together, yet none dare speak up to disturn the Vi-Smohkan during what must be a wholely sacred ritual to them.
“It is my honor to grant you the titles of Hunter, before the eyes of your new peers. To hunt and die for the glory of the emperor. By my name, Akabaron, Veteran Hunter of Five stars, and Vi-Smokhan of Cruorcible, you shall receive the mark, and be acknowledged after this day.

He turns and grabs the metal stick from the coals with his bare hands, showing a brand for the entire room to see. “If for any reason one should doubt the authenticity of this brand, a hunter will speak for their peer. Any that you do not recognize, or wear the brand as cowards however shall have the mark torn from their bodies.”

“This is our way, and it shall be done.” He lifts the brand higher, and you swallow, realizing what's about to happen.

Akabaron lowers the brand and looks at each of you. “Present where you shall wear your mark of the guild, and I shall mark it thus.”

> What do you present?
>>
>>32475818
>and not even with a quarry to cop out of the task presented
Huh? What does this mean?

>>32475835
Our right shoulder, perhaps? To cover up the scarring. And because it'd be badass BECAUSE of the scarring.
>>
>>32475835
one of our shoulders

some body part that can't get hacked off
>>
>>32475835
>emperor
This was mentioned before, I remember. All the races are led by one emperor, huh?
>>
>>32475835
the throat
>>
>>32475835
Breastbone?

Either that or a shoulder.
>>
>>32475851
eh, shoulderscar works.
Gonna be hard to explain this one to ol' ma. We HAD to get the tat, all our friends were doing it!
>>
>>32475908
Yeah the birds rules these isles as the local hegemon. Which is why im kinda shocked we have either
A) Been brought in for questioning by said Imperial Authorities.
or
B) Been offered a job by them.
>>
>>32475835
D-do we have to?
>>
>>32475960
err havent rather
>>
>>32475835
A shoulder seems the most practical.
>>
>>32475948
It's fine. Boss would probably let us keep it anyway, if he thought it'd be useful to have us as an intermediate to hunter races.

I'm more worried about where Marine will get her mark. Her shoulders, forearms, and chest are covered up by shells.

>>32475835
Maybe a mark right on top of her exposed navel, eh? Wink.
>>
>>32475997
Her back?
>>
>>32475835
The non-injured shoulder.

High up on the arm like.

By the way, do they respect showing the mark off, or does it not matter to them where it is? For example, if we put it on our forehead, would that please them more than on our stomach.
>>
>>32475835
> What do you present?
Make it a tramp stamp
>>
Seems most people say shoulder.
Now: Scar shoulder or non scar shoulder?
I say the scar one.
>>
Later, it turns out we can use hydration and rest to heal burn scars.
>>
>>32476021
non scar

Don't want the symbol to be marred. I feel like it's disrespectful somehow.
>>
>>32476021
Aye, decide this.
>>
>>32476048
Wheras I think it's cool and sentimental over our first hunt.
Oh well!
>>
>>32476057
Will the scar shoulder fuck it up somehow?
>>
>>32475835
Non-Scar shoulder plz.
Scar would just fuck up the brand.
>>
>>32476021
On the scar.

>>32476062
This is pretty much my reasoning. Aside from the fact that it'd look cool to have the scars behind the symbol, it'd be a good reminder of our first 'official' hunt for the guild.
>>
>>32476021
Scar shoulder sounds good to me.
>>
>>32476021
Scar shoulder, then.

>>32476057
Prof, would the brand be "fucked up" by the scar? Or would it just be in the back? Because I'm assuming that it doesn't really matter since this brand is being burned into our skin; I don't think there are any color pigments that would be fucked up.

Also, we're on page 10. So, you know. If you're gonna answer this question, make it quick.
>>
>>32476070
>>32476057
Can we ask the guy if the scar would mess up the brand, and if not go with it, and if so go with opposite shoulder?

Really, it's up to them to decide what is and is not offensive to their mark.
>>
>>32476066
>>32476077
>>32476078
Asking about whether it would mess it up or be seen poorly seems like something we should do first.
>>
>>32476021
I don't think they'd be offended if the mark got scarred. I mean. Shit happens in battle.
>>
>>32476089
Wait WHAT!?!?! How the fuck did we get to ten on this small number of quest posts?
>>
>>32476124
We hit max posts fairly quickly, and Ygg takes his time writing.
>>
Man this is going to hurt like a BITCH.

>>32476062
I mean, I guess it can be near the wound, but honestly, I feel like it would fuck up the brand to have it ON the thing.. Besides, having one shoulder fucked during the hunt, and the other one fucked as a reward for the hunt sounds equally as sentimental.

>>32476089
Depends on how it looks for me. I want the symbol to be clear and pristine, unmarred. If it looks like the scar isn't part of it, and is just an accent, that's fine, but having it look like part of the design is unacceptable. Pic related.
>>
>>32476131
Actually nvm. I went back and counted. Yeah we have 12 quest updates for this thread.

Why does it feel like we have done nothing then?
>>
>>32476152
Fight scenes notoriously eat up quest time.
>>
>>32476152
Uh, not really? Felt like quite a bit happened. It might just be your sense of anticipation messing with your head, since Prof switched AoPH's schedule.
>>
>>32476167
No actually it just feels like more should have happened this thread. Or maybe i just REALLY WANT more to happen. IDK, i was kinda hoping to get an offer from the city leadership after bringing this bitch in for the guild.

Also MAP WHERE DRAN?!?!?
>>
>>32476149
>just realized I have autism or ocd or something because I actually really care about the aesthetic virtue of our brand.

Of all the things I could have strong feelings over, didn't expect it to be this.
>>
>>32476209
Hey man its a worse tatoo. We are literally gonna have this for the REST OF OUR LIVES. No lazer surgery can get rid of it. This is important.
>>
>>32476209
>>32476225
redraw this
>>32476149
but with a much thicker or thinner line for the scar than for the burn.

So I can see what it looks like
>>
>>32476209
>>32476225
The appearance is abstract as long as you allow it to remain so; it looks as good as you want it too.
>>
>>32476225
If we get a staryu gem eventually, it will go away.
>>
>>32476225
In real life, I would much rather have a brand than a tatoo. I don't know, a brand seems... clean to me. A tatoo seems like it just taints a part of your body with unnaturalness.

>>32476261
You can whip it up yourself in paint in like 10 seconds, you don't have to be a drawfag to make some basic example lines.
>>
>>32476295
I'm going to imagine it then. And in my imagination, a much thinner line is visually distinct enough to not marr a pattern.
>>
>>32476282
Which could be as much of a problem as a benefit.

And more implants seem unlikely, as you start to have higher and higher rejection rates as you grow unless you've basically turned yourself into a patchwork already.
>>
>>32476308
Rejection rates don't increase the more you have, but the older you get.

Although I guess, in cases like Koga, if you're just removing and implanting the same kind of organ, it's pretty safe.
>>
>>32476308
It still mildly bothers mah autism that you have multiple pokes inside of you with no negative consequences till you hit like 5.
>>
>>32476335
I wonder if Koga ever carries a set of preserved poison sacs with him outside the Dome and cuts open his own body to place them inside when he needs a quick recharge.
>>
>>32475835
Third from the bottom now, Prof. Just so that you know.

Ready to archive this entire thread as soon as you post.

This is the SECOND time this has ever happened, you know? That time, though, we were at the absolute bottom.
>>
Marine is branded first, she's a bit hesitant, and quickly realizes that her armor will interfere and so- she offers her forehead, wincing a little as the hot stick comes forward. “Tell her to clench her teeth.”

You relay the message to Marine and she nods, bracing herself for contact as the brand slowly presses into her skin with a hiss.
Her fists tremble, and she tries not to cry, mostly succeeding until it's finally pulled away, giving in at the relief. Her forehead sizzles and the brand sets in with red flesh that rapidly turns white.

“She did well.”

Marine comes away, wiping back her tears so that the other hunters don't see.

“What is her name?” The monster-man asks. And Kurojo looks between you and her, repeating the question.

“Call me...” Marine pauses, “Ultramarine.”

“Ultramarine!” Akabaron roars and the guild applauses.

You give Marine a pat on the shoulder and she steps back. Kurojo steps up next and presents his wrist, the part still partially marred by the acid from a few days ago. “If I lose this arm, I may no longer be a hunter. It is just.”

“Hold it together, Kahkori,” The Vi-Smohkan whispers with some disdain, as he sets the brand against Kurojo's plumage, pressing it in firmly to ensure the mark stays.

The bird braces himself against the pain, and nearly drops to one knee as he keeps his arm from moving.

The brand is removed and his own trial is done.

“Your name, bird.”

“Call me Jojo.” The Kahkori pants.

“Jojo!” The beast roars, another round.
>>
>>32476437
>“Ultramarine!” Akabaron roars and the guild applauses.
God DAMN, Marine.
>>
“Next.” Akabaron looks to you and the Araraki now.

You step forward, removing the upper part of your armguard to expose your uninjured shoulder,” Bes' keep it safe, aye?”

“Aye,” Akabaron chuckles. “Don't bite your tongue.”

You clench your teeth in preparation for the brand and feel it sting against your flash, forcing a squirm out of you. The presence of your innate fat lessens the pain some, but you can still feel the heat eating away at your flesh, making you tremble and struggle not to wine. As you can smell the fur burning away and flesh destroyed by the mark.

Tears escape your eyes when he pulls aware, and he spits fire at the brand now,”It's gotten cold, hold still.”

He presses once more in the exact same place, to ensure the brand's application.

An agonizing moment later, the pain begins to come on as the burn begins its own way of festering.

"And what is your name?" Akabaron asks.

You face the guild, seeing all of them wait for your answer...

Ceruuuuuu!

Uh, counting the votes, it was voted to place the mark over the scarred side.
>>
>picking a name

well this certainly won't lead to a shitstorm!
>>
>>32476492
We were asking whether that would mess it up or be seen as offensive, I guess prof skipped the dialogue of that and just had us choose the clear shoulder because of how close to the end we were.
>>
>>32476514
Yeah... maybe Prof can suggest what name he has in mind, and we can vote whether or not that works for us?
>>
>>32476486
>No Ice Queen.

That's the defacto, you know? Or that thing that the Smolderans were calling you...
>>
>>32476453
Please tell me we're just going with 'Ceru'. Kurojo went with Jojo and I'd rather not pull an Ultramarine on this.
Or even worse, a Hot Rod...
>>
>>32476533
yeah, Ice Queen is good
>>
>>32476453
To be clear, we will only use the new name in relation to the guild, right?

Blachne Diab?

Cerulean of Cerulean is dead and gone

I'm going to go ahead and guess that that means "white bitch".

Its the same shit as in overhuman when we joined the Followers. Dran has been wanting to write this for a while i can tell.

There's no way she's not going to be ashamed of that once she grows up.

Numb Rod

it's actually nearly as fitting, considering it's our 'Hunter' name
>>
Why not just Cerulean? Or Ceru?
>>
>>32476546
No idea what that means. White Death, maybe?
>>
>>32476533
What were they calling us? Baby Smolder?

White Death or Ice Queen?
>>
>>32476591
Is it in Spanish or French? i cant tell.
>>
>>32476549
Yeah, I doubt marine's choice too.
I would have gone for like, the ankle.
>>
>>32476592
That's an epithet, not a name.

What about calling ourselves Blue. You know. Since Red is on Silver Peak.
>>
>>32476594
According to google translate, it's nothing.
>>
We'd probably be seen as too confident if we going with White Death or Ice Queen. Those are ironic nicknames, anyways.

Just go with Cerulean. Our friends call us Ceru, but the guild will respectfully call us Cerulean.
>>
>>32476602
Blue is already taken by Lilac's honedge.
>>
>>32476605

Remember, people. Ceru is modest.
>>
>>32476533
So what does the brand actually look like?
>>
>>32476602
White, Ivory, or Snow would also work, but only the Kahkori would understand.

Yes, it's "White Devil."

>>

>>
>>32476629
white devil is good, they call us that anyway

me likely a good 0079 reference
>>
>>32476629
Well, let's just go with that then.
>>
>>32476640
Single word thing would be good.
I prefer cerulean, but white would be acceptable.
>>
>>32476629
>>32476645
White Devil is too long, but White is nice and short. Let's go with it.

And now I wonder why they called us White Devil.
>>
>>32476629
Honestly, I like 'Snow' better than most of the other options.

Ice Queen is cool, but I just don't really see Ceru deciding to call herself that out of the blue. Maybe if you'd included even one scene of her missing Devon or how he called her that, but it seems that her memories of the name are negative at worst and toleration at best.
>>
Albus Frigus is White Death with the "Death" also meaning to freeze.
>>
>>32476660
>We spit water, anthema to them.

white devil is cool and they all call us that anyway.

it can be white for short
>>

White is better, though, when you consider that the setting is mainly based on Pokemon.

You just GOTTA have a color name. We're from fucking Kanto, man.
