Wendy’s sitting next to you. Her phone begins to ring.

She pulls it out and touches it to her ear and cheek.

“Bueno.”

This must be what Spanish sounds like.

She glances at you quickly and returns her gaze back towards the water, “Si. Peudo hablar. Oye, migo, que tal?”

“Donde?”

“Sta noche?”

“Si, voy a preguntar.”

She covers the bottom half of her phone with her palm and says without looking at you, “Skyler wants to know if you want to go with the two of us out to the karaoke bar.”

She turns her head towards you, impatient.

Your eyes go wide in panic but your mouth says yes anyways.

Goddamnit, Michelle, what are you doing?

Wendy says into her phone, “Ella habla que sí. Bueno. Ciao.”

“I didn’t know Skyler spoke Spanish.”

“He doesn’t. He just knows some words and phrases. Sudacas get around, everyone knows some.

Except for maybe dipshits like you.”

She reaches into her blue bag sitting next to her and pulls out a small bumpy, blue case. It has a brass colored clasp on it. She opens it with a click. There’s a neat row of nearly-white sticks.

She sticks one of the cigarettes(?) into her mouth and pulls out a cheap, abused looking disposable lighter and lights it.

She breathes deep and exhales slowly.

Hmm.

Wendy looks at you, her upper lip peeling back in disgust as she attempts to process what you’ve said just.

It seems as if you’ve broken her.

She laughs with that shine in her eyes that serial killers have.

She laughs and laughs, and begins coughing hard. She hits her chest with her fist twice and manages to say, “Whatever, man.”

Oh good work, Michelle. You handled this one well.

I understand that, but it getting progressively worse and stupider as time goes on makes no sense, you define the character like that at the start, not 30 threads in slowly turn her into a slobbering mess.

As it stands, Michelle was already well defined at the start, and this just feels weird like she's slowly turning into a completely different character for no reason.

It's a bit of a shorty (I think? Actual-post count might be higher than some other threads idk) 'cuz my time is limited thanks to this fucking insane 5 week language course I'm taking. Fucking insane the amount of effort I need to put in just to stay afloat.

>>
>>32474628
This quest fills a small niche, i guess take whoever you can get as an audience. Too bad we are all anons and come and go like the wind. Good luck, have fun with your studies.

Also, next time, can you provide a brief summary about Michelle and what she was doing at the start for newcomers?

Also more on her internal thinking if that helps since we put words in her mouth most of the time. Where did this snapping comes from?

If you are going to POV switch between Wendy and Michelle, make it clear please.

>>
>>32474708
I think there should be a line between Michelle and the audience. Cause really, Michelle is just going to get more unstable if this keeps up. For this type of writing, you'll need to move it to a forum for more accountability. This can only go downhill for Michelle.
>>
>>32474686
I forgot to answer your actual question. Next thread will probably be next Friday. I doubt my course load will lighten up, but I guess there's a possibility.

I'll give as advance of a notice I can, as usual, with regard to my scheduling.

>>32474709
Feels kind of like you're quitting on me, Anon.

No POV switch unless there's, like, a tangible and material demand for it or if Michelle ends up dead.

If Michelle dies we might jump bodies to Wendy or Skyler. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I forgot to post my usual "You are Michelle... blah blah blah" post today. Muh b. Or was that not what you meant, specifically?

Taken into consideration re: Michelle's internal monologues.

I feel...comfortable? Content? with using only physical displays for Michelle but... Can you elaborate on your needs/desires?

The better I understand what you want the better I can figure out how to compromise/give it to you.

>>32474816
>Or was that not what you meant, specifically?
I think he mean how tense and perspective changed around in that last update, especially with
>That was...unusual. Michelle doesn’t snap.

that combined with the weird tone change out of nowhere made it... odd and a little confusing, like there was no internal consistency in the characters or the writing in that conversation
>>
>>32474794
>This can only go downhill for Michelle.

I know, it's great. Unless...you think this story has a happy ending?

Now I'm just being sort of a prick, but if I can be honest/level with you: I don't really "plan," out any of the "plot." Michelle, along with Wendy and Skyler and every other character, named or not, can be killed. Michelle isn't "safe," just because the voices talk to her in her head.

I don't want to just outright say "Oh, you think this story will end well! Ha ha!" but at the same time I find it pretty hard to be convincing saying "I'm sure everything will end up just fine!"

You know? Maybe you honestly don't - it's not like I know where this buy is going.
>>
>>32474916
>Unless...you think this story has a happy ending?
Thats what I'm playing for, going down the rabbit hole is not fun at all for me, I've lost good friends to that.
>>
>>32474916
>Michelle, along with Wendy and Skyler and every other character, named or not, can be killed. Michelle isn't "safe," just because the voices talk to her in her head.
So what, a single dice roll can kill the quest? What the fuck is the point of that?
>>
>>32475001 here again

let me somewhat elaborate my thoughts, I don't understand the need for QM's to make quests hyper lethal for no reason, or for drama or because "LOL its lethal and edgy guise" (more and more are popping up like that). it makes no sense to let something so small and arbitrary kill a good story and the players entertainment and sticking to principles like that just negatively impacts the quest, its quality and the enjoyment derived from it.

I'm here for the fun of a good story, interesting characters and their interactions and actions, so what the fuck is the point of it all if they just randomly drop dead for no good narrative reason?
>>
>>32474816
Maybe a big disclaimer on top to remind the readers about this second person? type of writing. I am probably "spoiled" by other writers but I am just not picking up the hints on what is going on with Michelle and just write somewhat troll write-ins. Cmon, *tilt-head*? on a wolverine expy?

>>32474916
Well, the quest is pretty boring to the reader then. It's more of a raising simulation in dialogue form. We can just end Michelle's part by programming her with , win combat/do job, buy more stuff, and go to therapy/respond to social interactions with stupid questions.
>>
>>32474958
Godspeed and good luck in that fight. I'll be here writing out each and every consequence of your choices.

I'm sorry if I feel a little standoffish, but I think the nature of the story is fundamentally a survival one.

Although I want to make it clear I'm not, like, playing against you or anything. I'm here to have fun too, after all.

>>32475001
No, I don't think that would be any fun - but there's that word again. Losing can be fun. I think as long as everyone is both committing to the story, and enjoying the ride, nothing is specifically off the table - but that's a pretty big if. I think what I want to say is "No, it will never feel (be?) that arbitrary. Michelle's death will be a consequence of her (your) (in)action(s) - not just me rolling a lot of dice and going "oh, you've been turned into salsa.". Michelle's death will be the sum total of a large number of successive, cumulative failures.

>>32475087
It's not perfect. I'm still figuring out how to get people invested into the story/characters. Hopefully my response above fills in some gaps?
>>
>>32475147
I guess I should pre-emptively clarify: When I say "I'm here to have fun too, after all," I mean that I'm here to play with you guys, collaboratively, rather than some sort of weird AD&D-era antagonistic GM-player relationship.

I don't want the story to end prematurely or in some sort of way that was beyond your control. You know, just some sort of real total bullshit. That doesn't satisfy anyone.
>>
>>32475147
>how to get people invested into the story/characters.
Honestly, I lost a lot of "emotional" investment into Michelle when she started killing idols for the first time. Now I just pity her and just move her around to earn money (watching numbers grow) and for humorous and sad interactions.

>>32475340
We just need a clear and definitive goal. Maybe introduce somehow the career path? How to become top dog? Or other paths, like become the first "combat" idol?

Cause it feels like its on autopilot. Survival => win combat, don't make choices that make employer mad, become a shopoholic and interact with coworkers to maintain sanity, avoid drugs and alcohol (or not, since they are so different from present day), stay fit and play with useless claws.
>>
>>32475473
I feel you. We (you? I don't know if I get credit for that) accomplished a lot of the immediate, short-term goals/desires. House, car, general facade/illusion of stability.

I think you're right about there needing to be a higher, more driving purpose than just "live." Sort of a "Live, to do what?" you know?

I hope I don't feel trite or dismissive when I say this, but I enjoy our post-session talks. I don't (can't, really) discuss the quest with anyone else so a lot of the time it feels like I'm alone in a fishbowl. Receiving second opinions is nice.

Deep shit on Friday night.

Since I was sleeping through the whole thing, I guess I'll chime in with my view. I didn't mind Wendy or Michelle's actions in isolation, I kinda like them being abrasive, as long as it's just shooting shit. However, the mood seemed to change entirely with each update which was really weird.

Hope you get some more free time to run!
