>Year 474 of the Raschan Calendar

Colours threaded across the air, thin and ephemeral, they would come into and vanish away from your sight with the passing moments.
The lines stole the colour from the world around them, black sky and white stars was normal enough but the grass beneath, the flickering flames, the fallen bodies; all shades of gray.
There was a pain in your chest moments before, but it had faded away leaving nothing. The white clothed shirt you ran out of bed in was slowly being dyed in black colour.

Your heart beats stopped.

"Stay awake, stay awake." She screamed.

You didn't answer.

"Don't worry about it, okay? I can make it better now, it's all going to be okay now." You could barely make out her shape, you could barely hear her voice. She reached her hands forward, onto your chest... into your chest. What was she doing in there...?
When she removed them, her hands were drenched in black. Between them she held a glob of something, it pulsed in her grips...
She was saying something, but you couldn't hear her anymore. Her voice had vanished from your deafened ears.
She ate the glob, she ate it whole. The colours dripped down her lips, staining her white skin...

Your sight followed your sound, and the world faded to black.

And so the dream ends...

>Year 484 of the Raschan Calendar

Ten years ago you lost her, Carna; stained in black. Now ten years later, you slowly piece her visage back together.

You awaken from a deep sleep, your body drenched in sweat. It's your room, exactly how you like it. Clean, simple, peaceful.
You wipe your face off on your blanket and get dressed in your clothes. The sun shines brightly through your curtains, though in this cold season it only worries you how late you slept in. It must be noon by now.

Tomorrow you'll set out on the road again, you still don't have any details on your next mission or who you'll be with. The way the teachers talk about it though, it sounds like it'll be a long one. Your good friend Yu'yen has been in the talks of having a little party before the group of you split up, it'll be hard to see each other after today.

You still haven't worked things out with Rein, or any of the girls really. Your teachers have been dodging your questions. There're still things you want to do and hardly enough time to do it all. You should probably clean up some loose-ends today, perhaps see about getting some details on your job so you can make preparations.

You should probably see Rein. If you don't talk things out with her today, it could be ages before it's resolved...

You grab your coat and leave your room, giving the dorm a quick look-over for people. It seems everyone is out today, how inconvenient. You step outside onto the pathways, the snow has already been shovelled aside.

"Looking for someone?" Silvest, your feline professor calls to you from down the path.

"Rein." You tell him before asking, "What're you doing out in the cold?"

"Ah, I was going to see if any of you were in to tell you about your placements tomorrow. Looks like you're all out though."

"Could you tell me right now?" It'll be easier for you to prepare if you find out earlier rather than later.

"I'd rather do it all at once, there're usually a few questions so it'll be a real dog-bite if I have to answer them twice." Silvest sighs, breathing into large mitts he has over his paws, "As for Ms Rein though, I saw her leaving for the city earlier. You can catch her if you run now."'

"Was she alone?" It's probably better than not that you don't talk about what you want to talk about in front of the others.

"Yep. Haven't seen her with her sister quite as much lately, though I suppose I still see them together more than not."

You thank Silvest before dashing past him...

You catch Rein's shape as you come down the long road winding into Deneb from The Archives. Confirming that she isn't with anyone, you approach her.

"Hey." You call out, not quite sure how to lead off.

"Ah!" She makes a tiny hop, nearly slipping when her feet touch the icy ground again. You begin to reach forward, but she manages to catch her balance without needing your help. She turns her head around to face you, looking a little red; "Don't surprise me like that!"

"Sorry." You nod your head and step forward to match her paces, walking beside her as she makes way into Deneb. "I just bumped into Silvest, we're being sent out tomorrow right?"

"Y-yeah. I guess so." Rein hides her mouth under her scarf, she's been acting normal enough but there's always that little bit of awkwardness between you these days, "Yu'yen wants to have some fun first, so I was going to gather up some food."

"I should probably help out with that too." You say, though not committing to it in your head. The conversation dies out...

"What happened when the butcher backed into his meat grinder?"

"Huh?" Rein raises a brow at you, she lifts her jaw out of her scarf but judging from the way it drops she must've needed the support to keep it held up.

"He got a little behind in his work."

"...pfft...pffftt." Rein cups her palm over her mouth, "Shepherd's beard--that was sooooo bad."

"So was there something you really wanted to eat for the get-together? Yu'yen have anything planned?" You start talking normally, now that Rein sounds a bit more comfortable.

"Not really, I'm just making what I can put together cheap. I doubt Leona and I can steal away another piece from our treasury." Rein smirks, "We'll probably just eat and talk about stupid things. I doubt that Yu'yen has some big plan."

"Speaking of Leona, I heard you two haven't been talking as much."

"Well I'm doing my best not to make things awkward." Rein punches you in the arm, it hurts a little, "You know why, don't act stupid."

"You should take the chance to talk to her now, you might not see each other for a month starting tomorrow." After-all, you'll be separated into pairs.

"I'm more bothered I might not see you starting tomorrow..." Her tone softens, "You better have an answer to me after the mission."

Somehow, it looks like things aren't going to be too bad between you and her...

>CONT

The two of you keep walking, chatting about how it'd be like to be with different people on the mission. It sounds like Rein is comfortable with anyone though.

"Hey, is that Sheryl?" At the square, Rein cuts off a little joke of yours about snowmen, pointing over towards the bar. You see the hem of Sheryl's cloak trailing behind her as she walks into the bar, it's a little early to be drinking isn't it?

"Should we go see?" You suggest.

"Ah, I told Anlak to go ahead to the market so I'm meeting him there..." Rein mumbles, "It's Sheryl so I'm sure she knows what she's doing."

She's probably visiting Deneb and Danoch again, if she's lucky Masoch might be there as well. You really don't have to worry about her. Though, you don't really need three pairs of hands to carry things back from the markets.

"I'll go see what she's doing, I should greet the bartender any ways." You wave off Rein before following after Sheryl, it might be a chance to talk to Masoch personally. He'd waved off your questions about your strange state before, but it was always within The Seeker's grounds. Perhaps he'll be more ready to talk in a personal environment...

The bar is slow, but you didn't expect otherwise. In the midday of a cold season of an unsociable town, it'd be strange to find this place packed. Deneb is polishing bottles behind the counter, but she catches your approach with a quick glance as you walk towards her.

"Come here alone today? Or are you meeting with the lady out back?" She leaves the cloth she was holding over her bar-rail, leaning over the counter.

"I saw Sheryl coming in and wanted to see what she was up to."

"She's asking Masoch about your missions tomorrow, a shame that he can't seem to escape work even with the day off. Just step behind the counter, alright hun?" Her tone is a little bit too familiar for how rarely you've met. You thank her before heading through the door leading to her living space.

"I didn't think you were coming today." Masoch is in a casual outfit, a dark sweater over similarly coloured pants. Without his thick jacket on, he looks much more approachable than usual. The white gloves that hide his tainted hands give an odd contrast to the rest of his wear though. Sheryl watches you come over.

"I saw you walking in." You tell the elf girl as you take a seat beside her on the chair across from Danoch, awkwardly seated. This is the first time you've seen father and son together isn't it? The resemblance is fairly strong.

"And you followed me?" The lines of Sheryl's mouth curl downwards, "Well. It doesn't matter I guess."

"I was just telling Sheryl about some of the details for tomorrow. You're already aware that you'll be splitting into pairs, correct?" Masoch lifts a leg, placing it over the knee of his other. He leans forward, clasping his fingers together as he talks. You nod.

"The pairs will be Leona with Yu'yen, Rein and I..." Sheryl begins to speak.

"Leaving me with Anlak." You don't need her to finish, it looks like Yu'yen guessed right.

"It wasn't a random decision, I promise. Kran will be taking the two of you south-west of here. Just to the border between Artios and Ridae. Our agents tells us that Duke Hagaf has discovered some records pertaining to House Santo's fall." Masoch says, "I think that's relevant to you, isn't it?"

You pause. Santo was the lord that presided over your home town, before it vanished in the flames those many years ago.

"You are to retrieve the records by any means. More details will be explained to you where you drop off. I'm sure you have some questions..."

"I do, but not about the job."

Masoch stares into your eyes, the streaks of red in his spin around his iris some seconds before settling. "Danoch, could you keep yourself occupied for a bit?" Masoch says without taking his gaze off of you, the boy nods before leaving into the bar.

"If you know anything about what's going on with me, I want to know." You tell Masoch, who simply gives you a nod before standing up. He makes way over to his liquor cabinet, opening it up and running fingers over the bottles. Sheryl's ears flatten out, she places her hands on her laps and her laps against each other.

"Let's clear something up first. You are not a contractor, you are still human." He puts emphasis on the difference between the two, "But I wouldn't say that you're absolutely normal."

"Then what am I?"

Masoch sits down again, with a bottle and a glass. He pours himself just an inch, "I don't know much better than you. Graps didn't sense anything wrong when you met Kran, but there seems to be taint running inside your blood; underneath your skin. Perhaps an elf was your ancestor and some traits rooted deeply into your bloodline."
Sheryl places her palm over your hand, but she doesn't make any expressions.

"Is it really that simple?" You're not convinced.

"If we're lucky enough. There aren't many things across the realm so simple though, we've age of mysteries. But you're here to seek them out aren't you?"

It doesn't seem like he can be of any help to you, but why would The Seekers dodge your questions if it was only that?
Standing out back of the bar with Sheryl, you think over the questions in your mind...

"I guess you're not a contractor." Sheryl taps on your shoulder, and you turn your sight down to her. She peeks at your face with her large jade eyes, "Are you worried?"

It's hard to say yes or no.

"If a demon possesses you, I promise I'll kill you so don't be." She starts walking forward, "That was a joke, just so you know." Sheryl turns around, giving you a strained smile.

Guess she's trying to make you feel better? There's still a lot of time left in the day, you should find something to do.

"Want to go anywhere?" You walk past Sheryl.

"...how about the same place as last time?" She follows behind you, what was last time again?

"Lead the way." You'll remember when you get there...

You arrive at a small place on the street that leads out the city, you see small cats and dogs rolling over each other on the floor when you enter. It's been long months since you came here with Sheryl last to this restaurant where you met Kita.

"Have you been here since we came together?" You ask her.

"Once or twice." She says calmly, but the way the animals are gathering around her feet familiarly suggests otherwise. The two of you take seats, and a trail of baby dogs forms behind Sheryl, pawing at her boots. Sheryl places an order without looking at the menu, and you just have what she has without giving it much thought. You don't remember the food here being very good.

"What're the details on your mission?" You ask her, waiting for your meal to arrive.

"Silvest will be taking Rein and I far-west. Apparently some pirates from The Sevens buried a treasure years ago and we're going to dig it up..." She says to you, but her eyes are focused on the puppies pawing at her. Her ears waggle around.

"Do you two get along very well?" You know that Sheryl has a rapport building up with Leona, and some sort of friendship with Yu'yen but with Rein...

"Her and I are fine." Sheryl lifts her head up, glancing over to you coldly, "I'm more curious about you two."

"You won't make any ground on me, lech." Her choice of words is scathing, but her voice is weak. Her ears twitch every few seconds.

"You don't have to worry Sheryl. Rein and Leona are just friends." You thrust your arm onto the counter behind Sheryl, the dogs go quiet, watching you work.

"What's that supposed to mean..." Sheryl reaches for her sword, this could get dangerous... but you won't let that stop you. When she places her hand on the hilt of her blade, you overlay your hand over hers.

"I mean that I want to be serious about you." You look the girl in the eyes, hovering inches away from her face. Her gaze wavers back and forth between you and the floor, blush spreads across her cheeks... this is probably a good time to stop.

"I'm just kidding, you wouldn't stand a chance if I was ser-" You don't finish your thought. Sheryl slams her head into your nose, and you topple over onto the floor. The dogs run over to your body when it flattens out, licking at your fingers.

"Try to get up quickly, the food is here." Sheryl sighs, turning her attention to the meal without a beat...

"Really?" You turn your head to Sheryl, her expression is completely flat.

"...That was a joke." Her ears wiggle. The two of you finish your meals shortly, and somehow you end up playing with the animals for a bit before you leave. She has a name for each of them...

Outside of the restaurant, the two of you catch a curious sight. Leona is sneaking about the marketplace, following... something. She dashes between stands and crates, peaking her head around corners as she goes.

"What in the world is she doing...?" Sheryl tips her head to a side, "Well, I'm going to go walk Chance. You figure out what you're doing..."

"I guess I'll see what Leona is up to." You step forward towards the Belgran girl, but Sheryl's hand catches your sleeve. "Do you want me to come back with you?" You ask her.

Sheryl shakes her head, not saying anything immediately. Gathering her thoughts, she speaks, "Just, about Masoch's... sorry, I might've... I suspected you were a contractor, but I'm thankful that isn't the case."

"Would it have been a problem if I was?" Where is she leading with this?

"I was worried you didn't trust me with your secrets. We're friends, so... tell me anything you need to say." Sheryl lets go of your shirt, "You did the same for me so... it's just a given, right?" She turns away and starts heading back to the dorms, you smile to yourself as you go to catch up with Leona...

You tap on Leona's shoulder, hoping to give her a little scare--but instead you find the back of her hand swinging firmly backwards at your face. You barely manage to catch her wrist and avoid having your still fragile nose broken.

"It's me!" You say as Leona turns around, she breaths a sigh of relief seeing you.

"Oh, sorry. I thought someone was trying to make a pass at me..." Leona places her hands behind her back, smiling sweetly. She leans forward and eyes you up and down, "Or, am I right?"

"No, Rein left for the dorms already. Anlak said he still had some business to handle so he's walking around right now."

"And why're you following him?" You don't recall Leona and Anlak having talked to each other... ever in the last six months.

"Aren't you curious? He's always off on his own! He might have a secret lover in town, or he might be living a double life in the back streets, he could be a disowned prince for all we know; stolen away from his family and forced into slavery!" Leona shouts off her ideas, you count up how many books with those plots you know. She turns around and pauses, "Hold on... ah, where did he go?"

"I guess you lost him."

Leona jerks her head back to you, her lips curl inward awkwardly and her eyes droop, "Aaah, this is because you distracted me."

If you like the cute naive girl I'll go with Sheryl and if you like the strong forceful girl then I'll go with Rein.

Sheryl's naiveté and innocents is very cute. But there is a point were naiveté stops being cute. Leona goes past that and into; I don't want to have to deal with this shit anymore. But this is just my personal opinion.

"Alright, fine." You ought to humour her a little bit, it might be some time before you'll be able to meet him alone again...

Valaes, the last time you were here you were spying on Rein and Yu'yen's little 'date'. You didn't end up going inside, opting instead to send Leona and Sheryl while you watched over them. You're not sure if you have room in your stomach for more food, but Leona is being awfully pushy about this.

"Ah, I've always wanted to come here." The two of you are seated by a window, possibly the same place she sat last time.

"You came here with Sheryl before, remember?"

"That doesn't count." Leona leans forward, moving her gaze up seductively, "I wanted to come here with you..." Her finger tips tap against each other, you take a drink of water to have an excuse not to respond.
It's nothing but couples in here, and you're sure anyone who saw the two of you would think that you're together. The establishment is decorated neatly, and the staff has a professional air to them.

"Do you think we'd make a handsome couple?" She leans her head to a side, her braid drooping behind her. The girl is shy around strangers, but you've come to discover how aggressive she can get when it comes to relationships.
Even if Carna weren't an issue though, you certainly couldn't get involved with her with the problem with Rein still hanging in the air.

"You should stop that, I'm going to start taking you seriously if you keep this up." You borrow a few words from Sheryl, and before Leona can respond you change the topic, "We'll be heading out tomorrow, so let's eat lightly before we head back. Masoch told me a few details, want to know who you're going to be paired with?"

"Oh! Tell me, tell me!" Leona's curiosity might get her in trouble some day.

"You'll be with Yu'yen."

"Ah. I was really hoping I'd get you or one of the girls... ah well, Yu'yen is fun." Leona sighs, placing her cheek on the ball of a hand. She takes the other and twirls her index finger around her glass of water, "So how about you? Are you with Rein or Sheryl?"

"Anlak." Why did she assume you'd be with one of the girls?

"Ah... he's a little bit scary."

"You were following him earlier."

"Well he's not scary if he doesn't see you, right?" She smiles as the food arrives...

The two of you leave the restaurant, it should be about time to return now. But as you start a thought crosses your mind. Anlak might still be out. You don't necessarily want to look for him, but who knows when he'll return on his own and dealing with Leonas questions could be some trouble you'd rather avoid.

"I'm going to go find Anlak, I want a chance to discuss the job with him."

"Well, alright then." Leona nods and you part ways...

Finding Anlak takes you some time, Deneb is a quiet place but it's still big enough that most of the faces you pass are unfamiliar. Still, a large Daktori man isn't a common sight this far north and asking around, you end up getting directed his way. When you find him in one of the alley markets, he's browsing over earrings at a jewellers. An annoyed look rests over his face, and the man behind the stall is backing up somewhat uncomfortably.

"Anlak." You call up to him, not wanting to sneak up on the man. He turns his head to you and nods once as you approach, "What're you doing?" You ask him.

"Buying earrings." A faster response than usual.

"I was looking for you, I want to discuss our mission." You know he doesn't like you very much, but you can count on him being mature enough not to make a problem out of it. He gives you a nod and you continue, "The two of us will be going with Kran to House Hagaf to secure records from the duke."

Anlak picks a pair of earrings from the stand, he inspects it carefully before setting it on the counter and reaching for his coin bag.

"We should discuss the details on the way back, the others are expecting us at the dorms."

Anlak glances to you and nods. He places a few coins on the counter and pauses; he takes another pair of earrings and places a few more coins out.

Your walk back towards The Archives is quiet, as far as you know you have little in common with Anlak and the rapport between you two is poor. Other than the earrings tucked away in his pockets, he carries a few bags of food for the party. Hopefully Rein has been able to start preparations without them.

A paper bird shoots past your head from behind, flapping its wings as it ascends the walk way into The Archives. You've seen a few of them before, carrying messages between Black Cats and the White Cats waiting back home.

"Did you see that?" You ask him.

He simply nods.

Rein and Sheryl are both well above Leona in my book. The QM trying to ship us with her aside there is nothing Leona has that the other girls don't.

"So who're those earrings for?"

Anlak looks at you briefly as he walks, he takes a few seconds before answering, "Kran."

She is the only person who wears them around here isn't she. "Both pairs?" You ask to be sure.

"One pair is for Kran. The other is for Rein." Couldn't he have said that in the first place? "I'm just thanking Rein for helping me." He abruptly adds before you say anything else. That's likely all you'll be getting out of him on this topic...

You return to the dorms, where the others await you. Although Yu'yen called it a party, it's not really decorated. Some food trays are laid out on the table, and Rein seems to be in the back preparing more. Anlak nods to you once before heading over to hand off the ingredients to her. Before you can think of doing anything, Yu'yen sneaks up on you, wrapping an arm around your shoulder.

"Hey friend! Didn't see you this morning, hope you weren't thinking of slinking off without giving Yu'yen here a proper goodbye." He rubs his fist against your chest playfully, you remember that you still need to get him back for the whole pegasus stunt.

Leona and Sheryl give you their greetings when you enter, the latter holds Chance in her arms. There's not much to readily do but to eat and to mingle, but maybe you could come up with something.

You want to talk to Rein about what Masoch told you, but that can wait until Anlak is away from her. For now...

"Yu'yen, I haven't had the chance to test it out yet. Come help me have a look at the wand before we get sent out." You lead your Lunese friend towards the courtyard, Leona and Sheryl are entertaining each other any ways...

"Just empty a charge of magic powder into the back here, and it'll fire off when you press on this..." Yu'yen shows you how the wand operates, taking care not to set it off himself, "I managed to scrape up another round so we'll use this. You'll only have three when you depart though."

You line up the weapon with a mark on the tree, scrawled in by your sword. Yu'yen helps you steady your hand, his fingers are a bit sweatier than you'd like.

"I hope you weren't entertaining some ladies before you returned."

"Not today friend, my palms are hot from our passionate friendship."

"I will punch you." You warn him and he backs away, placing his hands on his hips before returning a friendly laugh.

You press your finger down on the protrusion in the gun and it moves with your touch. With a bang, a round shoots out smashing into the mark on the tree leaving a fierce indent in it. The tree stands steady, but bits of wood crumble down from where you hit it.

"You're a natural! Though you couldn't have done it without the help of a great teacher." Yu'yen sticks a thumb at his chest.

"I will punch you." You put the wand away, before heading in.

Don't feel too bad about Anlak. We all know Yu'yen is constant trying to act like a ladies man. But according to the girl at the bar he never actually goes beyond flirting. He's gay and over compensating for it.

Yu'yen and Anlak are going to have an nice happily life together whether or not we start dating Rein.
>>
>>32496855
Is it black powder? Because if it is we should clean the pistol, that shit's corrosive.
>>
When you return to the cafeteria, you take a peek around to confirm Anlak's position. He is seated at a table, staring over his palm. Yu'yen begins making strides over to him. Leona and Sheryl seem to be talking about recent reads...

You step into the kitchen where Rein is at work, she glances at you but returns to cooking quickly.
You pluck fruit out from the bags laid about and begin to cut them into smaller portions. You're not half the cook she is but you have a lot of confidence in your knife-work and given a recipe you can make just about anything minimally.

"So what was Sheryl doing?" Rein whispers over to you.

"She was seeing Masoch about the upcoming mission. It looks like you'll be with her."

"I guess that's a relief. She's good at what we do." There's a hint of disappointment in her voice.

"I asked him about my condition as well." You keep your eyes on your hands, but you can hear Rein stopping, "He thinks there's taint in my blood, but he left it at that."

"...well, that's good. It's not anything serious, right?"

"If he's right it isn't, but I don't think it's that easy." Your dream from the morning flashes by again in your head, "I can't answer you."

"That's fine. I'll wait." She taps your arm with her elbow, "Just don't keep me too long."

The two of you finish preparing the course, and head back into the kitchen where the others eagerly await...

This seems like the kind of thing Yu'yen would suggest. The main character isn't that stupid.

So Librarian, judging by the earrings he picked out. Would you say that Anlak has good fashion sense?
>>
Rein sets the food out on the nearest table and your friends flock over to her. You make way near Anlak far back, might as well discuss some work while the others are busy. You've eaten too much today anyways.

"No appetite?" You ask him, he closes his palm when you take a seat. His face curls up a little, you didn't offend him did you?

"No." He sticks his hand into his pocket.

"Do you know when we're leaving?" You never seem to get your mission details until right before you leave, Silvest insists it's practice for the future.

"Kran says we'll leave before dawn, they'll call for us at our rooms." Anlak explains, "The carriages will be waiting at the city gates, we won't stop until we arrive."

You'll need to remember to pack tonight, "Are you ready to go then?"

"...of course, it's my duty." He leans back in his chair, "It's yours too, don't mess around."

"I won't." He doesn't seem to have much faith in your abilities.

"You're going to get someone hurt." Before you can respond, Yu'yen waves the two of you over from up front.

"Hey friend! Anlak! Let's play a game, get some bonding done before we leave."

You head over to humour Yu'yen. Anlak doesn't follow until Rein starts calling the two of you over...

"Alright, let's play." Yu'yen laugh.

"What game are we playing?"

"Truth or dare, it's an ancient Lunese tradition."

You remember playing rounds of this with Carna before. You're fairly confident Yu'yen is lying.

Yu'yen starts the game off to the excitement of Leona and Rein. Anlak and Sheryl are noticably less excited.

It's fairly childish. You go around balancing carrots on your noses and answering docile questions about yourselves. It seems that Sheryl does some painting in her spare time, and Anlak has an affinity for horses. Leona hates broccoli and Rein is afraid of theatres; 'They're all haunted,' she insists. Yu'yen used to do tight-rope walking as a trick.

You do a fairly innocuous dare to speed-eat a large bowl of soup alone, your stomach won't forgive you for this any time soon. And it's your turn again to ask someone... truth or dare.

"Leona, truth or dare?" You ask, getting tired of the game. Rein seems to be getting weary as well, and neither Anlak nor Sheryl were very enthusiastic in the first place.

"Dare!" Leona answers, her and Yu'yen still pretty interested in keeping things going. You'll need to up the stakes, make her do something she would never do in order to put an end to things.

"Kiss one of the girls." You slyly say, there's no way she'd do that right?

"What?" She looks at you surprised, peeking over at the two others. Rein raises an eyebrow at you, Sheryl has her palm buried so deep into her face it might come out the other side, Yu'yen is giving you a big smile and a happy nod and Anlak just shakes his head with the opposite expression from Yu'yen on his face.

"W-well... I guess... are you into that sort of..." Leona blushes, swaying her shoulders back and forth.

"I'm not doing this." Sheryl groans, "I'm going to sleep, I'll see you all tomorrow." She starts to stand.

"Come on, just this, Leona gets one and then we'll stop. Alright?" Yu'yen tugs on her sleeve, pulling her back down.
The six of you sit around, waiting for something to happen...

"Alright then..." Rein lifts her chest up, "Come on Leona."

"Wait! I'm not ready!" Leona waves her hands in front of her red face, but Rein ducks her arms past them and grabs the back of her sister's head, placing a quick peck on Leona's lips.

"Now then, was that so hard?" Rein says, but the shade on her face matches her sisters.

"Wow, I guess it's true. All Belgran women are sister-lovers." Yu'yen makes a slow applause, and Rein delivers a kick to his head for it. Sheryl and Leona both look completely stunned. Anlak sits back with his eyes calmly closed.

"Aaah, that was my fiiiiirst. Reeeeeeein!" Leona comes out of her stupor and begins knocking her hands on Rein's hips, "Tell me it was yours too, tell me it was!"

"Sorry. I can't." Rein rubs Leona's hair, laughing gently.

"Don't you have a last round to play Leona? By the way, I'm picking dare if you choose me."

"No fair..." Leona sits back down and places her hands on her lap, "Alright then. Truth or dare?" She's looking at you.

"Truth." You answer her.

"Tell us who you love most!" She beams you a smile, the trauma from a few moments ago is short-lived.

"...can I change it to dare?" She meant like, not love, right?

"Alright then. Give me a kiss and I'll let you change it. I want to erase that last memory." Her tone is playful, but... Rein is giving you a difficult expression, and Sheryl just shakes her head 'no' at you.

"I agree with Leona, I'd like to know the answer too." Rein cuts in.

"Well then, friend. It looks like this is the end. Why would you tell us where your heart sends." Yu'yen sticks his right up and forward, his left touching his chest.

"...Carna." You say, standing up, "I don't know about love, but..." You still can't find the words to describe you and her. She's important to you, and that's enough reason to make her your answer.

None of them protest. They don't understand it, but they know well enough now that she means something to you. You leave the cafeteria behind and start heading towards your dorm hall. It'll be the last night you sleep here in awhile you'd wager, and you want to make it a worthwhile rest...

"That was a bit much wasn't it?" A small hand grabs your sleeve, "I understand where you're coming from but..." Sheryl looks up at you disapprovingly.

"Sorry." You apologize to her, but you mean it to everyone. You didn't mean any harm, but your feelings have been complicated lately.

"...yeah. Sorry." She apologizes as well, although you have no idea what for. She lets go of you, and stands there staring for some time. As you turn to go again, she calls your name out and make you turn your head again, "S-sorry... I need to tell you something. It's important."

You pray that she doesn't make your relationship problems any more difficult before you leave tomorrow. Leona and Rein are hard enough to deal with right now.

"It might not be anything, but I came across something before you arrived. I told you when we first met, that I would tell you if I heard anything didn't I?" Sheryl hangs her head, she looks smaller than usual. "Since the run in with my father, I've been intercepting the paper birds The Seekers send. I usually send them off right away, but..."

"What is it?" You're worried about her tone.

"It was from Henry, to Silvest. Do you recall his mission?"

You might've heard him mention it once or twice, but it didn't seem like anything meaningful to you.

"He's been pursuing a certain contractor. They call her The Little Witch. When we met him, he just ran into her in Belgrand, then followed her back through Deneb..." Sheryl's voice grows weak, "I think she might have something to do with the both of us."

Your heart hurts. Sheryl reaches into her pocket, and produces a folded paper. She slowly unravels it, and passes it to you...

"She's travelling with a companion that they call Sissel."

'I found her. Borderlands of Artios and Ridae.' The letters are awkwardly etched.

"She's contracted with a Rasci. They want her killed as soon as possible.

Sketched in dark coal markings. A beautiful young woman, long light hair, and her eyes not coloured in.

Your chest is going to split open, your heart is trying to claw its way out...

A pair of arms wraps around your head.

"Calm down... okay?" Sheryl sighs, "Sorry, maybe I shouldn't have."

Your back is against the wall, your legs stretched out before you. Sheryl holds you closely against her chest.

"I'm not really... skilled at comforting people. So work with me here, alright?" She whispers softly into your ears, "I need you to calm down before the others walk in here, it's going to be embarrassing if they see this... and don't make fun of me for this! You did it to me last time, so you're not allowed to complain."

You need to calm yourself down, but your mind, your body, your heart; none of them are in sync...

>What do you do?

Last choice. I feel bad for fanning the waifu wars but I don't want anyone to ever think Sheryl isn't an option.
>>
>>32498998
>What do you do?
Calm the fuck down.

Carna is the contractor that can control demons. When our heart was destroyed in the attack she replaced it with a demon heart. But the heart is still under her control.
>>
>>32498998
Get our things. We're leaving. Alone. Make Sheryl promise not to tell anyone else we left.
>>
>>32498998

>Run off!

I'm kinda feeling we need to have a mental breakdown here.
>>
>>32498998
Ask for Rein. She was pretty good at calming us down last time
>>
>>32499053
Agreed. We have to go find Carna.
>>
>>32498998
We have to be smart about this. Pack up and leave at night.
>>
>>32498998
>What do you do?
Tell her:
>"Masoch was wrong about me being decended from an elf. What happened with Carna is why I can't control my body."
>>
>>32499053
>>32499062
>>32499072
>>32499096
Where are you planning on going? The seeker have been looking for her for months do you think we'll magically know where she is?

>>32499100
Obviously
>>
>>32498998
We have to go. Carna's travelling with Sissel, so Sheryl has her own reason to want to go as well, but we should at least tell her she doesn't need to come.

The Seekers want Carna killed, so I'm not sure what going to her is going to do to our status here, and we should tell Sheryl as much just so there's someone who knows what's happening in case something happens to us.

We don't want to lose all of our new friends here, but we have to go all the same.

>>32499100
>>"Masoch was wrong about me being descended from an elf. What happened with Carna is why I can't control my body."
This might be a reasonable connection to make, but we're going to have to calm down for sure before coming to it. This is probably too analytical for someone who's still freaking out.

>'I found her. Borderlands of Artios and Ridae.'
>>
>>32499233
If someone told me my sister was somewhere on the US Canadian boarder I don't think I would be able to find her without more info.
>>
>>32498998
> hug her back
we need to find out everything that our teachers know about her whereabouts
>>
"Thanks..." Somehow, you manage to slow your shaking enough to stand. Sheryl takes her arms off of you before stepping back.

"What're you going to do? You'll be heading there tomorrow."

"I'll be heading there tonight." You can't wait. You've waited ten years, you can't wait any longer. She's out there, you finally know she's out there.

"I see... good luck then." Sheryl doesn't move.

"Will you tell anyone? Your brother is involved."

"I won't tell anyone, but I can't help you either." Sheryl places her hands behind her back, "Because my brother is involved."

"I'm going to my room. I have to prepare to leave."

"Come ba-" She starts to say something but she cuts herself off, "Stay safe... and thank you, so much."

You can only nod to her as you begin your steps towards the room. Staying here isn't an option for you any longer, if they're looking to kill Carna then you're going to protect her. You make your resolution without any thought at all...

You don't own much, just what you have gathered before you and the horse you purchased in Belgrand still waiting at the stables. You'll have to get it before you leave. You didn't get a chance to say good bye to most people... but this isn't necessarily your last meeting, right?

Maybe you can resolve things, come back again. But right now, there's nothing on your mind but Carna...

You hold the sketch in your hand, folding back the letters so that you can see her face...

And so, life goes on.

Still better than nothing. Besides, I'm assuming these countries are closer to Europe sizes than US/Canada.
>>
I would like to point something out here. I think that most of the people voting to leave tonight thought that it was a choice between the seekers or Carna.

>>32491973
>Kran will be taking the two of you south-west of here. Just to the border between Artios and Ridae.

Our mission with Anlak is in the same place as Carna. We don't need to chose between them. If we leave early the seekers will know we went rogue. If leave in the morning we'll still get there but we wont have people hunting us down.
>>
>>32499421
Oh. Good point.
now I want our last choice retconned so we can choose this
>>
>>32499421
>We don't need to chose between them. If we leave early the seekers will know we went rogue. If leave in the morning we'll still get there but we wont have people hunting us down.
This is a pretty good point, though keeping this situation from Anlak or getting him to look the other way seems incredibly difficult.

Still probably a better idea than having people on our ass because of it and then STILL having Anlak going there on the same mission regardless, probably with an additional Seeker along as well to compensate for our going missing.
>>
>>32499421
>>32499451
I think the whole point was that MC is too panicked to realize that. Although Sheryl really should've said that...

THANKS, Sheryl
>>
>>32499421
Ya I don't think the people voting realized they were in the same place as our mission.

They saw Carna an just went full "fuck the Seekers" mode. It makes sense in character to freak out like that. But it would be amazingly stupid to leave early when we're going there anyway.
>>
>>32499470
The QM was assuming we all knew they were in the same place and that we intentionally made the decision to go early.

Silly QM thinking people pay that close attention to things.
>>
>>32499473
Maybe librarian can salvage it by having anlak and theteacher that is accompanying us come collect us later tonight with the reason being that we have to leave earlier then morning. That way we can still stay with the seekers
>>
>>32499421
When Masach told us about the mission I just glazed over the part about where it would be because I knew it would be some made up location that I didn't know about.

>DON'T LOOK AT THE SPOILER.

It's oveeeeeer.

My scanner is working again, but I'm absolute shit at keeping my papers together so I have already lost any sketches I've done of anyone. For anyone who just scrolls down the archives casually, I'm probably going to use this as an OP starting from the next thread. Beware of it, it's probably spoilery and I won't use it if you guys really don't want me too but I personally think it'll be worthwhile.

I uuuh, probably should've described things better up there huh. My bad. For all it's worth, leaving at night should have the advantage of a quicker arrival and I'll do my best to make it a different decision rather than a bad decision.
Both Artios and Ridae are just provinces of what I picture to be a fairly small world. Jesus, I still haven't given you guys a world map despite promises of it ages ago have I.

I really assumed the last choice would end up being "Hug Sheryl back and sleep it over" rather than what happened but personally I really like what you chose.

Thanks for playing.

Or you just leave a note for Anlak telling him we left early and to rendezvous with us there.

Gives us a bit of a head start, and it's entirely likely they just interpret it as being uncomfortable around Anlak and being kind of standoffish about it.

Better they're annoyed with us for trying to lone-wolf it on an ostensibly collaborative mission than thinking we actually went AWOL.
>>
>>32499571

this >>32499546 was me. When I read the last vote I thought that we where going to Mexico with Anlak but Carna was in Canada. I think that's what a lot of other people thought also.

I'm incredibly bad at remembering the names of made up countries. Every time I want to reference Rein and Leona's home country I look for the name earlier in the thread to make sure get the spelling right. I know it starts with a B
