It's been a busy few weeks, but damn it if you aren't happy about it.

For the first time since you Exalted, now you feel like you can actually DO things without people screaming at you or trying to stab you.

As the sun rises on yet another day of work, you climb on the small hill that you've adopted as an observation point and gaze upon your grandest project: The City of Pearl! Shining jewel of the western seas!

...It's mostly in your mind, but that doesn't make it any less of a beauty. Your imagination maps buildings, roads and streets, parks and trees, magical lights and courses of water onto the mostly bare landscape.

Right now, in the real world, all there is is just a lot of tents and hastily-built shelters, not designed to last long in any case: the housing for you and the workers -real workers! Who are following your instructions! You still can't get over this.

The demesne, previously a little lake of enchanted water in the middle of the plain, has been drained and filled, creating a perfectly flat stretch of land, which still maintains its dim, magical glow.

Before building the town, you'll need to build the manse, and before building the manse you'll need to make the demesne solar-aspected rather than water-aspected.

Having Maka here would make it easier, her being an actual priestess of the Unconquered Sun and all, but she's apparently very busy in Tianna, or so Mikahil said.
But there's plenty of work to be done here without her anyway. Partially-worked stone is being dragged here from the quarries in the east of the island, to be cut in its final shape. The first load arrived yesterday, long-awaited, and another one is due today.
In any case, laying down the first parts of the manse following a solar-y design will help fix the demesne in its new aspect.

The blocks feel like they're staring back at you, asking you what destiny you have in store for them. Or maybe that's just sleep deprivation, it's not like you've had any rest lately.

The previous days have been spent mostly probing the terrain, checking its solidity and if there were any dangers to construction, and tossing around ideas between you, Mikahil, and the workers (who were useful in pointing out that some of your ideas did not happen to be exactly feasible in the realm of reality). About a third of the land you're planning on using must still be checked, but, geologically speaking, you have no reason to suspect any part of this side of the island to be anything less than solid.

Of course, it DID pop into existence from nothingness less than a month ago, ripped out of the Wyld, so better safe than sorry.

You've never heard of underground Wyld pockets, and neither have your men, but knowledge of the fact that this was all Wyldlands, and that there's an island of Wyld nearby, upsets them. You've already heard a few of them blaming missing or misplaced tools on goblins and similar nonsense, so better to show them all that there's no Wyld left here, on the ground, underground, or anywhere else.

...Can airborne Wyld pockets be a thing? That's an interesting idea.
...Probably better not to talk about it. Mikahil got pissed when you mentioned the underground ones to the workers.

You turn to the blocks again. You have several designs for the manse in head, and both Maka and Mikahil said that they trust you with the final design. Or at least that's how you chose to remember it.

Opening your notebook, you flip through the pages. Now that you have the stone and almost finished all preparatory work, it's time to start the construction itself.

First of all, you'll have to pick which on out of the various designs to use. Each has its pros and cons, of course...

Cathedrals are cool. Which style of architecture should it use? A subset of gothic style? Perhaps flamboyant? Really emphasise those windows - Fitting for a place dedicated to the unconquered sun. I can imagine an array of windows designed to let light into the cathedral proper in a beautiful pattern.

Could we have the Altar or Stage be on a platform that can be raised on the highest tower of the design? So we can have someone preach or do TTWT or deliver messages to the entire city or island?

Also could it be possible to go for a diffrent design?

A fucking Lighthouse?

Lets build the lighthouse of Alexandria!
>Lighthouse!

Only ours will be able to shine the light of Sol Invictus and protect the entire island from Abyssals and such a like and direct ships from way further than any other lighthouse ever.

What would that be like, in terms of pro and cons or do we need to select tower for that?

Seriously we are in a coastal city on a large island. Not making it a huge magical lighthouse is a huge mistake.

We can have it as a temple but the functionality will remain

That makes sense.

The problem is that the demesne itself is not on the coast, to the manse will have to channel the power up to the coast to light the demesne. Essentially it will be, in a way, a very long building, with the "core" at one end and the lighthouse tower at the other.

It could be tall enough not to matter that is not on the coast.

I mean if the intent is so that it can shine light over the entire island.

It would function as a probably the greatest navigational aid in the entire archipealago if not in the whole west. Probably like a permanent start that hugs the ground showing the position of pearl.
>>
>>32501276
But a tall tower exposed to the sea is a huge target and a long, fragile (has to channel magical power) building that cuts through the city is more of a liability than an asset.

On the other side, it does help naval power, trade and commerce, and i'm counting those things under "government".
>>

Yeah, but that would be detrimental to port activity in a stormy night.

Unless one has auxiliary lighthouses dotting the coastline.

The Manse Lighthouse functioning on a strategic level while the coastal ones on the local level.

Unless this lighthouse can cut/ dispel through fog and smoke and such in the area around pearl.

Rolled 5

>>32501368

Well if its a lighthouse and has a temple function for the faith of sol seeing as it is a lighthouse meant to shine the light of sol in adverse conditions i don't see how its going to have a - religion.

>>32501337
Well as a huge lighthouse or tower one has more option if the thing is able to project a shield or repellant aura against abyssals and undead and demons and such or shoot solar laser rays, seeing as it can cover a larger area to target its power if said power works on light touching it since it is high up and can probably target the entire island from all angles and all sea approaches barring the one obscured by the volcano if it is shorter than the volcano.

>>32501368
I think i figured out the problem.

Probably a lot of us think this pros and cons in design will be the only ones.

I think it as the first of a set so that is why it is not scaring me off, as a tower or lighthouse design may have some drawbacks but later function and design decision will come with their own pros and cons, correct?

A lighhouse is more theme apropriate, and it can have a temple in the base of it. I mean look at the Alexandria design. It's effing huge. Skyskraper huge.

We can have more room in it for a temple than the Sistine Chapel, for people to pray in knowing that from this place the light of sol shines over creation. Literally, not Figurative.

A cathedral is probably designed to better house people inside and ad you can preach to all of them and all of them can hear and al their prayers are focused say in one point or some such. With the same Mass and probably volume as a Lighhouse

A lighthouse wont probably do that the best way, but it gets to be effing tall and shoot Sol Invictus light in everyone's faces.

>LIGHTHOUSE
>>
If we have a lighthouse, it might backfire.
I mean, it's a giant "WYLD ME RIGHT IN THE HUNT" sign. Oh well, at least it'll probably help the other Solars find us.
>>
Rolled 7

>>32501468
A cathedral is more theme appropriate to build in a temple city, but a lighthouse can't be a dedicated place of worship, we could hold prayers in there and stuff but it wouldn't be the same as a building meant to do that rather than one that's suppose to function as a lighthouse
>>
Rolled 10

>>32501539
If its stlyed like something then it is something.

It will basicaly be a lighthouse but also function as a Cathedral.

It wont have the design of the Cathedral.

This is the vote for the shape of the thing.

You cannot have the shape of a Cathedral DESIGN and expect it to function like the Lighthouse of Alexandria or the Eye of Sauron because its going to be shorter.

You can however have the DESIGN of a Tower or a Lighthouse and at its base have the people gather for prayer. However it will not house as many people because the DESIGN means it has to be narrow and tall so it has the highest point to shine light every way possible.

Well, I am pretty sure that building a temple-manse would start the countdown to the wyld hunt if we haven't triggered it already.

Still, I think we should still build it. We don't want to suddenly get the message "Solar Temple Manse has been built in a faraway land"

Assuming the same amount of volume or material One choice will always be better at its main function than the other.

If we really want something that puts us on the map for every Sol Cult and probably Every Sailor too its a lighthouse.

I mean this way there is no way in hell one can get lost on the way to Pearl, because the pilgrims stream in to get to see the Lighthouse of Sol or Pearl, and the Sailors praise sol for the lighthouse and know where it is.

Plus everything has to come in by boat, barring a few exceptions.

It's a few hours that the workers are milling about without much to do, as you spend most of the morning pacing back and forth across the demesne and paging through that book.

Bit by bit, you hammer together, in your mind, the perfect idea.

You rip a handful of pages from the book, the sudden noise jolting awake a few of them, and crumple them.

"...Is everything alright, miss Kava?" The man who's in charge of the workers, an engineer from Tianna you appointed two weeks ago called Leah, approaches you with a worried look. "You worked hard on those designs..."

"I know. But They don't matter anymore. I have an idea!"

With infinite patience, the man folds his arms, sighs, and listens.

"First, Give me a deep foundation around this area. Make it a circle, centered on the Demesne." Flipping to another page with a map of the area, you draw a flawless circle by hand with a pencil.

"...That large?" He asks. "Just a circle?"

"Well, there will be other buildings, but we need a very deep foundation of the tower might crumble in the wind."

"Oh, so you're going with the tower design?"

"Yes, only larger." You explain.

He eyes the book again. "...How much larger?"

"Think we can get the main structure up to two hundred meters?" You ask him.

He makes a strange noise with his throat. "That much?"

"Well, just the main structure, of course. Then, on top of that, I'll place..."

He puts a hand on your shoulder. "...Miss Kava, maybe it's best if we just focus on the main structure now?"

"Oh. Yes." Good thing you have Leah to bounce your ideas off. He keeps you grounded in reality.

The digging work is the worst part. You keep looking at the sky and seeing the towering lighthouse in your mind, but for now, all the work you and your men do is just going down rather than up.

You know a building can't do without it, but it's so... disheartening.

For some reason, Leah keeps insisting that you shouldn't be taking part in the digging, but you still haven't figured why. You want this part to be over as soon as possible, and one more person with a shovel is going to help with that, right?

Meanwhile, a trickle of immigrants keep coming from Tianna in addition to those from that small port village in the northern islands you've forgotten the name of because it wasn't important. Some of them looking for work, some of them some kind of religious refugees. You're leaving them to Mikahil for now.

After three days of digging, something entirely unusual happens.

As you're in the hole that will be the foundation of the lighthouse with the other workers, you suddenly hear a loud, metallic scraping noise.

"Uh, milady?" One of the workers raises his voice, putting down the shovel. "I've hit something. Not a rock."

Work slows down as the other workers take an out-of-schedule break to check what's happening, and rest a bit.

"...Go back to work, you people. I'll check it." You scold them, approaching and picking up the shovel.

It's damaged, the metal sporting a deep dent. It collided against something hard.

You kneel and sift through the soil and rocks and pebbles, and finally find a shard of hard metal, about ten centimeters long and sharp like a razor.

"...Is this gold?" the worker asks, amazed. You rub the dust off its surface, and reveal a bright shine that fills the dark hole with a dim golden glow.

"Orichalcum." You reply.

Elegant Nova of Progression when?
>>
"...Alright, everyone. Keep digging. Nothing happened. Just tell me if you find anything weird. And be careful, there could be bits and pieces of sharp metal in the soil." You inform everyone, mounting on the lift with the newest load of moved earth, carefully holding the shard of magical steel in your fingers.

Once you reach the light, you realize that, yes, you weren't mistaken. Only Orichalcum catches sunlight like that. This is the first time you see a piece so large.

[Eye of Sudden Insight] [Essence: 6/7]

(Mental + Twilight = 4 3 6 9 8 2 4 2 3 8 6 = 3 successes)

You spend the rest of the afternoon examining it. Magnifying glass, alchemy, essence conduction, harmonic resonance tests.

It's definitely weapons-grade orichalcum, and the sharp edge and the fracture lines makes you think it must have come from a daiklave or other edged weapon. It was definitely fractured under stress... so, shattered in battle.

Just the idea of an orichalcum daiklave shattering in battle boggles your mind. You honestly have no idea of the kind of strength it would require.

Then, there's the matter of the layer you found it in. Alchemically, you have dated it back to the end of the First Age. But after checking the layers of soil under Tianna, you reached a disconcerting conclusion, something that you would've never been able to figure it out without this little bit of orichalcum here.

Tianna doesn't make sense, geologically.

The soil layer here should be very thin, just like it works with every other island in the West. But you've been digging for three days and you're still at the soil layer.

You thought, for a moment, that it was because this land was Wyld until recently, so it might not make SENSE geologically: it has a different history from the rest of the island, after all...

...But Wyld naturally retreating and falling back into creation doesn't spawn bits of magical swords into itself, does it?

(cont.)

Rolled 1

>>32502622
>Tianna doesn't make sense, geologically.
What is up with this island
>>
This has really gotten you utterly stumped. No brilliant idea incoming, no flash of genius helping you make sense out of this, nothing.

Either all this soil was generated by the wyld, which just "forgot" that islands here are supposed to have bedrock after a few meters... and also generated a piece of Daiklave for some reason?

Or the Wyld didn't seep underground, which means that the entire island - or maybe only this side of the island? Is just a giant pile of sand and soil with no rock underneath.

But is it? This island might be poor in stone and ores, but it has a mountain range and even an active volcano. Besides, you only sampled around here, and have no idea how the stratigraphy of Tianna is in other locations.

...What should you do?

As for the manse i see the frame akin to Eiffel. Four or more main struts huffing a massive cavernous complex that unite at its top and continue as a tower.

Militarily this is going to be hard to defend. We could however surround the manse with a garden and plaza and that again with a castle wall, similar to the Alexandria Lighthouse.

This is bothering the hell out of you.

The next morning, you wake up and head back to the dig to find Leah with other four pieces of Orichalcum, all apparently from the same source as the first.

"What did we hit, miss Kava?" He asks, confused. "We're wrecking all of our shovels and pickaxes. We can't keep digging like this."

"Sure we can." You reply. "Is there another choice? We can't just make these bits of metal disappear."

"It's not just the bits of golden metal." He replies.

"...oh?"

"We've hit a different layer. It's still soil, or rather, it looks like thick-grained sand. We can dig through it, but it ruins our tools."

"...Those bits of orichalcum you found were in this layer?"

"Yes. Probably that first one was just an outlier. Seem we've hit some really weird strata."

"...Send someone to call Mikahil and bring me some of this sand." You order him, keeping the bits of the blade.

In about ten minutes, both assignments are carried out and you're explaining the issue to your fellow solar.

"Going to Tianna right now is not a good move for us two." He warns you. "There's a lot of chaos there with the Immaculates. Maka is working on them, but it's best if we don't show up until everything's solved." He looks at those bits of metal. "...Any chance we can use them?"

"Not like they are now, but I can probably reforge them. It would let us circumvent all the troublesome process of refining gold into orichalcum. This is actually an orichalcum-steel-bronze alloy, though, so it's really only useful for stuff like weapons and armor." You explain.

"And that sand?" He asks, pointing at the nearby box where you had some of it collected.

"It's sand."

"Uh-huh."

"But it also has bits and pieces of Admiral's Brass in it."

"...What's that?"

"A first-age alloy used in naval construction."

He takes a second look at the sand. "Are we building on the site of a first-age port or dockyard?"

"We're certainly building on something." Is your response. "We're finding too much stuff for all of this to be born out of the Wyld. Evidently, the Wyld was only in surface. Probably this layer of worked metal actually prevented it from spreading too far underground."

He slowly nods, looking lost in thought. "How does this work with the demesnes we have here? Sites of long-gone first age manses, whose power has resurfaced once the Wyld has been cleared?"

"Maybe. Maybe." You concede. "But I don't want to stop or slow down the construction for this."

"It could be important." He points out.

"Which is why someone has to worry about it."

He points at himself quizzically.

You nod.

The Bureau of Destiny actually arranges for a certain number of false convictions every year to keep Sidereals supplied with Starmetal weapons.

[Shining Chest of Wonders] [Grand Architect's Scheme] [Essence 5/7]

You spend the rest of the day with Leah and other two men assembling a giant sieve out of wooden frame and reforged iron wire, and shoveling endless piles of dirt through it.

By night, you have collected almost every pat of the daiklave, enough to reverse-engineer its design. You sketch it on your book for future reference.

In any case, some pieces still miss, so you can't exactly reforge it. Besides, it's too ruined. Best you could do is to melt down the metal and recycle it.

It's probably something you could do right now. You just need a very high temperature. Solar mirrors are needed to purify gold into orichalcum, but to melt a steel-bronze-orichalcum alloy high temperature and lava should be enough.

That volcano goddess might help.

Ideas of what to make with this much weapons-grade orichalcum alloy are already dancing in your brain...

>Let's go ask her, she might know something as well.
>Let's finish the dig first at least, so if you find other pieces you can melt them all at once.

You restrain yourself and spend the night doodling sketches and making calculations instead of sleeping, at least until Leah forcibly turns your lantern off.

(After that you continue with your castemark for a bit.)

The metal isn't a lot, but if you supplement it with some more steel it should work fine without downgrading quality. It will prevent you from attaching magical qualities to it, unfortunately, which means it'll be good for just weapons and armor without any kind of enchantments. Which is a pity, you always wanted an essence firearm for yourself.

Three days later, the foundation of the tower is finished. Without hitting the bedrock at all, but it's deep enough that you're confident that it will hold admirably. Actually, the fact that you didn't hit the expected layer of rock means the hole ended up being a lot deeper than you were prepared to make it

Other shards and bits of materials were found while digging, mostly pieces of magical materials. The only thing sturdy enough to survive sort of intact, perhaps? It's mostly orichalcum and jade, with a bit of what you imagine to be moonsilver.

All in all, about four kilograms of orichalcum are at your disposal. How do you plan to use them?

You spend another day making sketches and plans for what you're going to do with all that delicious orichalcum.

You remember Maka saying that she would have loved a weapon to go with her unarmed style. Maybe a pair of smashfists? But you also remember Tia doing a lengthy rant about how much Maka needed a pair of high-heeled thigh-high armor-plated combat boots.
And drawing seveal pictures.

You actually saved some, the... less explicit ones, for inspiration. You guess you'll start with that, and then think of a pair of smashfists that will fit the style.

Then... you really want to use some of this metal to make for yourself a new set of tools.

And, of course, you're going to use some of this as part of the structural strengthening for your tower. It's going to be AWESOME.

You spend so much time thinking about this that you almost forget about the tower, in fact.

By now, the foundation is perfectly done and ready, just waiting for the construction to begin. Since you dug so deep, you can probably fit several underground levels here. Which features should the underground area of the manse have? You can probably fit up to 5. Of course, you'll have a lot of space in the upper portions of the tower to fit what you won't put underground, and you can allocate more space to a single feature to make it more relevant or important.

To clarify, each of you can cast 5 votes. You CAN vote 5 times for the same thing. Unless there's a lot of agreement for a specific layout, i'll go with the votes, and give multiple spaces to areas that get a lot of votes more than the others, or if someone makes a very good argument for it.

Having multiple areas makes the same location larger and more impressive. a single space for a bedroom would be a "normal" bedroom ("normal" for a queen living in a 5-dot manse, keep in mind) whereas for example 3 spaces of bedroom would be something quite vast, luxurious and extravagant.

As always, assume that Valeriana has some kind of instructions from Maka (but also that she might have received instructions from Tia as well, and you can imagine what she wants)

Finally, the construction begins, according to your well laid-out design.

In the centre of the underground layer, a reinforced room, designed to be easily defensible and as sturdy as possible, will hold the Manse's core and control room, from where the Essence will be gathered and channeled.
You also design (and account for in the project) a secret passage leading outside, but you don't put it on the project you hand lean and the workers, and keep the idea for yourself. You'll add it personally later.

You devote the rest of the space to a large war room, sitting just above the core room, and armories and stockpiles of armor and weapons. In case of war, the underground levels of the tower will have to be a bunker.

Detailed design of the aboveground levels can wait until the foundations are completely laid, for now. You still have to see how the essence will react with the stone bricks and if your project will channel it properly into the core like you've designed. You instruct you men to begin cutting the stone and lay it down according to your plans.

As the work proceeds at the tower, you pick up your tools and shards of orichalcum and pack them on a horse, leaving for the Dancing Smoke volcano.

Travel across Tianna has become a lot safer, or so you've been told. In any case, no trouble happens to you and you reach the volcano's summit unimpeded.

And...

...you were kinda expecting to just walk here and find Dancing Smoke, but apparently she's not here.

You know that Maka has a prayer that draws her attention and lets her summon, in a way, the goddess, but prayer is not your forte. (besides, it seems that Maka's problem is mostly getting rid of that lecherous goddess rather than calling her). Besides, you'd feel a bit embarrassed if you tried dancing like she does.

You wait a bit, then, bored, you start trying to go over Maka's steps on the dance she showed you once.

There's no way you could pull that off. Much less in her clothing or lack thereof. But still...

...well, there's no one around here.

You try the full dance.

Nothing happens, and you sit back down depressed, trying to think of another way to summon her.

...nothing comes to mind, so you decide to try the dance again...

"Not like that."

You turn around, and find yourself face-to-face with the volcano goddess.

"Y-you saw?!"

She sighs, disappointed. "You need to show a lot more skin for that, girl."

"I...what?"

"Even though you have such a beautiful body~" She grins and stares at you, undressing you with her eyes. And probably violating you you can't even imagine in how many different ways.

"Er, I... uh, I need your lava."

Her grin suddenly grows a lot wider and more perverted. A bit of drool escapes the corners of her mouth. You hear the volcano growling.

"...No, wait! I didn't mean that way! I, I need a high-temperature forge to melt down orichalcum, and help in reforging it...!" you try and explain.

"Oh, I'm sure we... can come to an agreement." She hisses, leaning closer and putting an arm around your shoulders. She is almost unbearably hot to the touch.

"Y, you have agreements with Maka, right? This goes to her advantage as well! I am going to make weapons for her out of this material, after all..."

"Oh, don't worry, I'll definitely help you." She says, her hands beginning to tentatively grope you and delicately slip your clothes off you. "In a minute~"

You're a pure girl. You're not like Maka. You've not known her for long, but you have reason to believe that that self-proclaimed "queen" really is some kind of sex monster in human form.

To say nothing of Tia. She's almost worse.

But you've seen how Maka keeps this animal-like goddess in line.

Besides, you might not be as filthy as Maka, but you're no shy virgin. You've had sex countless times (in your imagination)! You're the very definition of an experienced lover (in your imagination)!

It's time to put all that practice to use.

As her hands reach under your dress, you slap her. Hard.

You suspect you hurt yourself more than her, but the purpose was to startle her, which you did.

"...huh?" She mumbles, taking a step back, She evidently wasn't expecting that kind of reaction.

As a response, you grab her and pull her back to you.

"Is that the way to treat a Princess of the Earth visiting you?"

"Uh... but-"

"You didn't even invite me to your Sanctum? Just here out in the rocks? How UNREFINED can you be?"

"I-"

"You ANIMAL."

With an ease that frankly surprises you as well, you grab her and slam her down on a large slab of volcanic rock nearby, back down, belly up. "FINE, then. If you want to do it like this, then I'LL show you, and then you WILL give me all the lava I need, even if I have to MILK it out of you."

"But I was just fool-"

She shuts up when you open her bra and move on the counterattack.

Yep, you were trained for this.

[Session end]

I also give her another rank in Linguistics so she Can speak Flametongue, Old Realm, and Seatongue. Lastly a point in dodge, because I don't think we tank EVERY hit.
