Welcome back to Golem Quest! Where you take upon the form of a golem who, as fate may have it, has the gift of sentient thought! So far, you have learned the basics of enchantment, golem creation, and golem animation, have befriended the apprentice of your deceased creator, saved a village from enslavement, and have drafted one of the slavers to begin research in your tower of creation! Following these events, you have returned to the village and began questioning the assumed lord for information involving a quarry in the area. And that is where our story resumes.

"Do you have a supply of metal?"

"Unfortunately, as is the case with our supply of stone, we do not have any significant supply of metal."

"If I can find someone to front me materials I may be able to start a quarry."

"Well, my friend, I think wood may give you enough for the structure of the mine, provided it is not too large. You are quite strong, perhaps some of the smaller trees in the area could provide supports for such a venture. There may be some mining equipment in town. I can ask around if you like, no one would be using it."

>[]Search:Quarry Build Site
You begin to search the area around the tower for a suitable site for a quarry. Your relative inexperience at this is proven irrelevant as you happen upon a natural cave system within the very same mountain housing your tower. With what light pierces the caverns' innards you can see various rock formations within, though the tunnel spirals out of your view roughly eighty feet in It is a roughly four hour journey from the tower to its location, but it is a nice find indeed.

You step forward into the caves, stony footsteps echoing against the cavern's floor. Your eyes allow you a degree of vision in the darkness, though it is certainly shorter-sighted and less defined without light. You are also currently limited to grayscale in your vision. Your venture into the cave is short-lived, as it seem to only split twice, and each cavern only follows a hundred feet or so back. You do not find any inhabitants or other odds and ends. Rather mundane, after all!

>Cave:Explored

You find yourself standing once again at the entrance to the cave, now with the knowledge of its rather limited interior. What do you do?

Afterwards, we should go back to the tower and start making the body of another crafter golem. Or can we only do that when we have enough stone to finish the job?

Does powering a golem up require any resources which can be depleted?

Can we overstress the local magic field with too many golems at once?
>>
>>32622313
We really should let Lefty carry a weapon (if he is able to do so). We've got that sweet bandit mace, but Lefty only has his punches. Hefty punches, but nonetheless only Punches.

So we're a crafting golem that has a negative to crafting because we're stone.

Sigh. /tg/.
>>

+0 to most crafting, +10 to weaponcrafting.
>>
>>32622412
I'm trying to remember what order they were voted in. Sadly, I don't feel like checking the archive.
>>
>>32622429
First material then the specialty.
>>
You turn your attention inward, focusing on the expansion of your mind that you know to be your companion golem. Through this, you attempt to perceive the world through Lefty, and... do so! You find yourself peering at Tomas and the bandit hedgemage, watching as they pour over the hefty tome you left them to study. Tomas seems to be the more animated of the two, eyes wide and voice excited as he notes another discovery. Perhaps another spell? The hedgemage is less animated, though he does seem much less anxious than your previous encounter with him. He is carefully instructing Tomas in a neutral tone what notes to take down, considering his injury.

A quick test reveals that you cannot quite move Lefty through simple mental exertion, though with a quick order mentally, you do cause him to shift his stance slightly. Interesting.

For now though, you return to your body, and set about gathering the materials needed for your new venture. You use your crafting tools to create a stone hatchet with which to fell the trees around you. After a rather long period of time, you have felled and cleared boughs from eight rather large trees, and have moved them to the forefront of the caverns.

You observe that you have gathered 150 units of wood.

What do you do? The sun is beginning to set on the horizon, it seems you have lost the time as you worked.
>>
>>32622452
There we go. That explains the problem then. Anons thought stone worked as a material, but once we saw Crafter, we couldn't turn it down.
>>
>>32622412
I've been considering shifting around the racials a bit to be more fitting, as though you have shown proficiency in all crafts, I don't know if the negative from stone is fitting, thematically. I'll give it some thought, but I don't want to eliminate the choices that voters have made already.
>>
>>32622487
Is there such a thing as a "Wood golem"?
We should probably get that 150 wood to the Cave, in case we need it.
>>
>>32622487
Return to the tower. I'd like to experiment a bit more with lefty. Maybe we can try to shift our point of consciousness to his body?
>>
>>32622521
To be fair, the class probably should have been chosen first. So that would be good justification for changing something.
>>
>>32622487
Dig into the tomes and see if we can heal our new helper friends hands

I bet he still needs them
>>
>>32622544
You have not heard of the material being used for golems in your studies, as of yet.
>>
>>32622544
The wood is already at the entrance to the cave.
>>
>>32622585
>>32622574
Then we should head back to the tower and learn about Mining or Quarrying.
>>
>>32622549
I'm down with more telepathy experimentation. Though I'd start with trying to practice with the perception ability till we can see out of both lefties eyes and our own at the same time.

This may or may not be a recurring trend, but when something is not necessarily exclusive, but would require time investment, and receives a sizable number of votes, I'll allow it to be a minor action, which will not provide a sizable amount of progress, but still will do something toward that goal. I'm testing it out to see how it works.
>>
>>32623068
Can we experiment with the bond on the way back to the tower?
E.g. can Tankred order himself to move towards the tower, and see if he can do that while his attention is elsewhere?
>>
You find your way back to the tower, the sun falling below the horizon as you meander along. While you do this, you find yourself wondering if your own form has the capacity for automated movement.

You stop for a moment, and attempt to loosen the constraints your mind has on your body. Clumsily, you feel direct control of your body fade from your mind. You order yourself to continue toward the tower, and force yourself into Lefty's portion of your mind. Your perception shifts and you find your perception to be within the parlor, as the two ready themselves for sleep. Finding this information worth further study, but knowing the importance of keeping an eye on your own form, you retreat to your crafter form, finding yourself moving at your normal pace, a bit further along the way.

Reasserting direct control seems rather easy, it could be likened to a human's clothing.

Continuing on, at the steps you find the cart, which contains a number of tools you are rather unfamiliar with, though you do recognize a number of pickaxes amongst them. A note is also attached:

'A suitable expert has been found, Sir Tankred, one Kieran Thornhustle. What's more, he as agreed to aid in your endeavor for a pittance, which I supplied him. He is your's for the week. Simply make your way back to the village and I shall lead you to him.'

Making your way to the tower, you enter the parlor to find your three companions. Tomas and the bandit are sleeping soundly in two of the parlor chairs, while Lefty watches idly by on one side of the room. You deem this a suitable setup and ascend to the Study, wherein you search for a few minutes for any books on mining.

You find a tome covering various crafts and the applications of each. Beginning to read, you find yourself learning of the proper technique with which to use a pickaxe, when and where to properly place support beams to prevent cave ins, and various methods with which a beginner may prospect one's chosen location.

>>
(2/2)
All in all, learning the basics of mining itself, along with furthering your ability to discern the locations of possible mines and the quality of resources within takes about eight hours, and it is a short time upon reaching this milestone where you hear your two lab assistants stirring.

>Mental Bond: +1
>Craft: Mining Unlocked!
>Craft: Mining II: Learned
You are now proficient with the use of a pickaxe and may more accurately strike points of weakness in rock, as well as identifying possible quarries and mining sites. +10 to Craft:Mining rolls, for both physical and observational applications of the skill.

You make your way down the steps of the tower, greeting the two briefly, and are informed of their latest discovery: a spell of the Earth. The have not yet discovered its particular properties, but are hopeful for its full discovery by the day's end.

Continuing to town, you experiment with your mental bond, just tinkering with what you can and cannot do, though you find you can automate both bodies while your perception flits between, it seems that you are not proficient enough to fully integrate yourself into your companion. It may take some more concentrated effort for any further breakthroughs.

The trip to town is uneventful, aside from spotting some of the native fauna, and you find the lord rather quickly, as some of the villagers are quick to fetch him upon your arrival.

"Oh, Sir Tankred, it is a pleasure! Allow me to escort you to your new temporary retainer."

You nod curtly and are on your way, where you find yourself standing in front of a lodge, with smoke billowing from a hole built into the roof. Perhaps this miner also dabbles in blacksmithing.

The lord enters, and is quickly out with a man with short black hair, and seems rather tall for a human. He smiles broadly and extends a hand in greeting.

"So you're the fellow who saved the town? I seemed to have missed you. I was tending to some of the wounded in the back of the church. It's a grand honor to see you, Sir Golem!"

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Kieran Thornhustle." You extend your hand as well, carefully grasping his in a tentative handshake.

"It is my current endeavor to erect a quarry in the very mountain upon which my Creator's tower has been embedded. I am confident that you will be useful in both the construction of the structure and my learning of the techniques therein."

He smiles. "I can help you build a quarry easily, Sir Golem. Just lead the way!"
