Welcome back to Golem Quest! Where you take upon the form of a golem who, as fate may have it, has the gift of sentient thought! So far, you have learned the basics of enchantment, golem creation, and golem animation, have befriended the apprentice of your deceased creator, saved a village from enslavement, and have drafted one of the slavers to begin research in your tower of creation! Following these events, you have returned to the village and began questioning the assumed lord for information involving a quarry in the area. Finally, you find a viable quarrying area, harvest some wood to construct the quarry, learn the basics of mining, and meet your expert!

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Kieran Thornhustle." You extend your hand as well, carefully grasping his in a tentative handshake.

"It is my current endeavor to erect a quarry in the very mountain upon which my Creator's tower has been embedded. I am confident that you will be useful in both the construction of the structure and my learning of the techniques therein."

He smiles. "I can help you build a quarry easily, Sir Golem. Just lead the way!"

You navigate, with your newfound companion, back to the base of the tower. Along the way you keep an eye on your research assistants through Lefty, though you don't notice any breakthroughs. You grab the cart, and start on your way to the cavern.

Kieran asks for some basic information on the quarry. Location, purpose, et cetera. You inform him to your best ability, with what you currently know.

After roughly five hours, you and Kieran are in the mouth of the cavern, where Kieran grins.

"Ah, found a good place, you did. This will suit your purposes well, though with the way these caverns may have formed, you will need more than the usual amount of wood to support any digging. The wood collected here should be enough to start any operations, though."

You nod. "Direct me to where I should place the primary supports."

He smiles, and over the next hour you are directed by Kieran to place the wood you collected earlier in places that will optimally support the cavern's structure once the digging begins. As you do so, you take note of the criteria used by Kieran to determine whether or not a support is needed.

"How many would be needed to fully utilize a cavern of this size?"

"I would say, twenty humans, or five golems of your size and strength, to keep this running at peak capacity, though with the digging creating more ground to cover, the number would increase over time."

After the job is completed, Kieran pats you on the stony shoulder.

"You work fast, Sir Golem. Now that the preparations are complete, if you intend to employ human labor, you may need to install light sources into this quarry of your's. Luckily you could see in these dark caverns, but I cannot."

Your inherent knowledge of your innate tools allows you to shift them into a makeshift flint. A quick search through the nearby treelines allow you to find wood dry enough to serve as a torch.

Makeshift torch burning in Kieran's hand, you lead him deeper into the caverns. With his guidance, you spend the next few hours experimenting and mining.

At first, using the human sized tools reduce your effectiveness at the task, even with Kieran's input. Taking a short break, you inspect the structure of the pickaxe. You determine that using your inherent tools, you can create a pickaxe of proper size for yourself. Doing so, for the remainder of the mining shift, you use your pickaxe to easily pierce the stone.

"I'll manage, Sir Golem. There shouldn't be anything in these forests. I'll journey here at dawn tomorrow."

Once at the base of the tower, you transport the various pieces of rough stone to the forge, which takes another hour, compounded on the four it took to travel here. You set about working on the new golem, forming each of the pieces to be bound to the central nexus of the torso, however, adding and enchanting the additional stone to act as the mutable tools adds complexity to this, as these are bound to the limbs, rather than the torso.

Thus, after much work, is the unfinished body of your newest golem. During the process you remember your researchers passing you on their way to retire for the night. Perhaps they made a discovery?

You take the unfinished golem to the lab and begin the process of animating it. You first bind it to the latent mana in the air, and then to you. You then feel...

You then feel... an almost painful crack as you feel your perception expand! You feel an odd disconnect as your perception is blinded for a moment, and then as you acclimate you find yourself peering from two sets of eyes, in two different positions. You move... and each of your two forms move.

Not one to be shocked by much, you immediately set about practicing with this new bond. It seems that your mind is now bridged completely between the two, and you have complete motor control over each, without flaw. After a moment, you find you have both vocal control and control over the crafting tools on each body as well.

Well, this is quite interesting.

I'm assuming we can move each body independently, right? We might want to consider having one of our two bodies researching more golem craft, so we can do different sizes.

Yes! YEEEEESSSS!

...ahem.

I wonder how multitask capable we are. Lets try and have one body study golemcrafting, while the other tries to swap perception with lefty.
>>
>>32644316
Can we have both bodies do research? Reading different books?
>>
>>32644402
>>32644460
I think we still only have one consciousness. And I think that consciousness needs to be focusing to learn something.
>>
>>32644247
Hmm, we got +1 mental bond with lefty when we were playing around. Which implies we have a lot of practicing ahead of us if we intend to include him in our consciousness.
>>
>>32644402
You test your connection by attempting some heavy reading on golem animation, and using the other perception to peer through Lefty's point of view. This works well, although your reading is imperceptibly slowed as you "glance" through Lefty's point of view.

>>32644460
Quick tries at this prove fruitless, at first. After some concerted effort, you find the process grow... easier? It is more of a matter of splitting your attention. For now though, it seems you are still limited to learning from one's view at a time.

---
So, to add to the above thematic information, I'm going to lay the groundwork for some mechanics. Currently you can only gain knowledge from one Golem, though this may change later with a few stat boosts. We'll call it Attention for now, to borrow from Haven and Hearth.

This also affects your ability to control the golems you have direct control over, so you cannot fight as effectively while one golem is reading, while another is fighting, and vice versa. Unless specifically stated, automatic tasks, mining for example, do not take attention away from you.

Golem Count: 3
Attention: 1
>>
>>32644651
Would we be able to increase our Attention through practice?

And does doing something like fighting with both bodies count as splitting attention?
>>
>>32644712
Perhaps to a limited extent, though one can only stretch one's consciousness so far before it begins to fray, if you catch my drift.

Fighting with both forms does not count as splitting attention, although you may liken it to using both controllers on a game system. You can accomplish the fighting itself just fine, it's the more complex tasks that may hamper you.
>>
>>32644786
Alright. Let's do some more research into golem crafting, then. We really need faster bodies for stuff like resource transportation and messenger duties.
>>
>>32644786
The first sentence is answering the first question, while the latter two are for the second. Pardon any confusion.
>>
Alright. If the discussion is done, I'd like everyone to pick a task for each golem.

You set yourself about in the study, while moving your new form into the surrounding forest.

In the study, you find the large tome and a small stack of parchment next to it. Leafing through it quickly, you find the notes on the Earth spell the two spoke of earlier. It seems to be some sort of evocation used to erect temporary fortifications with the earth in the area, forming a wall. The notes aren't complete, however, and thus you continue to your learning.

You settle into your usual trance of reading, while controlling the crafting golem. Hours pass unheeded as you learn. The sun begins to rise, your consciousness so focused that you hardly notice your lab assistants join in your studies.

As you snap out of your trance, you notice that your new self has clear-cut a copse of trees and has amassed a staggering 600 units of wood.

...how long were you out?

While studying, you absorbed the intricacies of altering the nexus of a golem to allow for different sizes, both in weight as well as in height. To construct a Small Golem, you expend 50% of the resources, while to construct a Large one, it takes 200% of the resources. Light Golems take 75% of the resources, while Heavy Golems take 150% of the resources.

Craft: Golem (Stone) IV Unlocked!

One applies size modifiers before specialization, as the additional stone used for the spec changes depending on the size.

Example: Crafting a Light Small Fighter Stone Golem, which I'll nickname a Skirmisher, will go as follows:

Small: 270*.5=135
Light: 135*.75=101.25=102
Fighter: 102*1.25=127.5=128 Units of Stone

I'll work out a google doc depicting the different stone costs for various golems, and I'll nickname them as well unless you guys want to.

"Indeed I am. How long was I unresponsive Tomas?"

"Nearly two days. We tried to talk to you, but it seemed like you were in a trance. I was quite worried, even after the new golem went outside."

I'm not sure that a name is appropriate for the new golem. It's literally an extension of our consciousness. It's like we grew an extra set of arms and legs.

I'd probably go with numbering for bodies that we're completely integrated with.
>>
>>32646696
It's just something for me to refer to the new form when I'm writing posts, but I can go with numbers if it is wanted.
>>
"Tomas, what has occurred since I have been unresponsive?"

"Well... we have completed research on the earth spell..."

Wall of Stone: Evocation (Earth) III
Summons a straight wall of earth before the caster, creating a strong barricade or fortification.

"We have begun working on the next portion of the book. Unfortunately, it seems that many of the spells are completely beyond our comprehension, but we have begun translating a portion related to the creation of familiars, which may be interesting."

"Otherwise, nothing has happened really. I would imagine that the Bandit Lord has started to miss his assault group by now. We're worried he may send another attack soon."
>>
>>32647016
"We will be ready."

Head out and start mining. We're going to need 1350 stone to get a full complement in that mine, with #3 going out and procuring any extra wood as necessary. Every 270 stone we get, we should head back to the tower and create a new medium unspec golem for resource duty.

Once the quarry is fully staffed, I'd like to make one caster golem for testing purposes, and then we'll get to work on fighters.
>>

You make your way down the stairs after conversing briefly with Tomas about your short term plans, and join #3 at the steps.

Making your way to the mine in the dead of night is peaceful, and the noises of the forest allow you some stimuli as you travel. After the standard four hours, you find yourself at the mouth of the cave, and set up mining with your nearly identical self.

Until day breaks, you are careful not to dig too deep, and shave off large blocks if possible for ease of transportation. By the time you bring some stone out to find your expert at the cave entrance, you have amassed a rather impressive amount of stone.

You set about gathering stone once more, after providing your expert with light of course. Over the course of the day you take shifts of mining, placing wooden supports, and using one of your golems to ensure that there are wooden supports to be had. By the time the sun is setting, you have expanded the tunnels roughly twenty feet, having carved copious amounts of stone from them, and have depleted all the wood at the cavern entrance.

Welcome! I seem to usually run it on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 7 or 9 CST, 8 or 10 EST. I try to play during the week as well, but that got bogged down this week with work.

The best thing to do is just check the twitter daily, as I usually post somewhere in the ballpark of 8-24 hours before a quest goes up. Generally I take things pretty slow, since voting generally gets 10-20 minutes, so missing a thread isn't the end of the world.
