Aside from that, yes, Chiaki is stronger than average due to Meguca physiology, but she's still noodley-armed compared to other Meguca.

You confirm her suspicions with a nod, however. Yes, Kyoko just arrived a few minutes ago, here to pick you up. She also dropped off Rea and Kumatora as guard detail. You add, after a moment, that the latter had also brought a particularly thick file with her - something about a manuscript?

"H-huh? Oh...y-yeah, we were supposed to go over the next volume's first draft," Midori murmurs. "But not this early...! I had that set until after lunch today, at least...!"

Well...at least she could have a head start on it? You suggest with a weak smile. This goodbye isn't turning out as well as you hoped. You just wanted to nudge her awake, tell her where you're going, get a sleepy acknowledgement, before slipping away - but not after giving her a kiss or something like that.

"Ready!" She grins, zipping up her trainer jacket, before linking her arm with yours.

With her by your side, you make your way back to Kyoko in the living room. She seems to have fallen asleep in your chair again - but she immediately wakes up at your approach, one hand automatically coming up to wipe sleep-drool off her chin.

"Nyeh? Oh, Murderface, ya ready? Let's go--" The red-haired Eversor freezes here, her one eye widening at Midori, then at you, then back at Midori. "Uh...um..."

"Good morning, Kyoko-san!" Midori greets the Eversor, who only nods dumbly and returns her greeting with a mumbled one. A moment later, and you blink as you're dragged away from your Callidus by Kyoko herself, away from the living room.

Combined with the fact that her magic inherently diminishes suspicion, it means that if she doesn't get initially get caught it's unlikely for anyone to figure out a callidus had been there. Unlike the Yakuza guys for the Ruri ark.

One thing that just occurred to me though. We should be carefull with sending Midori against Oriko directly. I mean she is using the title "prophet", and she was able to magically perceive us when were scrying her through a mirror.

Its possible that she could see right through any illusion magic. This kind of "prophet-vision" might well be an ability given by the golden staff. I recall that in that Kharn flashback for example, Ahriman somehow just knew Kharns history and past. The staff might well warn Oriko, no matter how good an illusion Midori uses.

Lets not send Midori to face Oriko personally.

Well, its worth keeping in mind that Oriko probably went for the power offered by the staff, because Chiaki killed Kirika. She wants revenge.

Oriko might well go for the whole "cause equal pain" thing before going for the kill, which might include killing those Chiaki holds dear. Don't forget she sent Chiaki a severed head made to look like Mami.

If Oriko has learned that Chiaki is close to Midori (staff might have told her?), she might well want to kill Midori first, and Chiaki second, for maximum pain.
