You backhand Vincent, sprawling him out onto the ground. Vincent whimpers and inches away from you on the ground.

How dare he ask what you are? You’re obviously the good guy, because literally anybody who broke into here would be good by comparison with the filth that are running this place.

“I’m not telling you anything,” you say. “You’re working in a fucking underground slave ring run by a bunch of demons. But I can tell you what you are – you’re absolute scum. Like. It literally gets no worse than you.”

Vince starts crying again. Ugh, what a mess.

The only reason you didn’t let him blow his head off is that you’re the one that put him in a suicidal mood, and you’d maybe lose some kind of sleep over it later down the line.

The door cracks open, and Harvey steps in, dragging Jack behind him. He looks over at the bound and gagged prisoners handcuffed to the nearby pipe, then down at the blubbering, jelly-like form of Vincent. He wrinkles his nose in revulsion. “Keys,” he orders.
>>
>>32671180

Vincent sluggishly produces a key ring from his vest pocket, which Harvey abruptly snatches away from him. He slings his boxy little machine gun over his shoulder and begins to move to free those trapped. He pauses, and looks back over at you. “Sierra, you should look normal.”

You catch yourself before you make a quip back at him. Likely, the prisoners won’t take well to seeing anything demon-like after their recent experiences with Cordeliate, Melkor’s slaver.

>Look normal.
>I also should ask Vincent a coupe questions (?)

>>

Oho! Well that seems like it may be entertaining!

The question is...
Are they demon-demons, or do they do nice-demon stuff like host BDSM parties and take care of submissive humans?
>>
>>32671435
As far as I can tell it's a bit up to the demon. I'd imagine you could find the whole spectrum, though the demon-demon type seems more likely to run into.

>No, I should head upstairs. You have this under control?

>>
“Yeah,” you agree, “but just to be clear, the horns are awesome.”

Harvey pauses to crack a smile at you before he kneels down by the hostage Vincent so carelessly threw to the ground and starts freeing him from his restraints.

You make sure the glamor is back in place and force your features to return to normal. Yeah, you’ve still got blood on you, but it’s not like somebody could mistake you for the monsters you and the Hallows came here to hunt.

Both you and Harvey set to freeing prisoners and getting their blindfolds and gags off. You help them get on their feet and steady themselves. Some battered and bruised woman who looks like an absolute mess turns to you and speaks. “W-what’s going on?” she asks. She can barely stand, and she wears a distant look of relief mingled with terror.

The other hostages look to you, too in shock really to take much exception at your bedraggled appearance. They look a lot worse than you do anyway.
>>
>>32671538
We've only seen like three or four other demons in demon-form, so it's hard to say.
>>
>>32671584

A muffled explosion shakes the ceiling above you, and shakes a cloud of dust down into the room. A young man, the one Vincent had been threatening with a gun, coughs on the debris. A moment after, another burst of gunfire sounds from somewhere nearby. While the mansion seemed pretty well constructed from outside, you don’t think it was designed to be the battleground between heaven, hell, and bears.

Harvey’s just finished freeing the last prisoner, and begins dragging Vincent over to the wall, evidently planning to use one of the now unlocked handcuffs to secure him to the pipe.

>A crazy fight between good and evil – and it sounds like I’m missing out on it.
>You’re getting out of here. Stick with that guy and you’ll be fine.

I'm wary about letting the hostages go back with too little cover given there's likely to be shots from the upper floor as well as the guy who escaped into an outbuilding.

Do we have a radio to buzz snipermom with to find out if the route is clear/if she can cover the guy in the ourbuilding?

>>

A quick radiocheck to find out how secure the grounds are and how the fight inside is going seems prudent before we have the hostages break cover, then. A few seconds to keep aware of the situation are totally worth it.

“We’re getting you out of here,” you tell the woman. “Harvey, can you make sure they get out okay?”

Harvey nods once, and grabs his radio. “Overwatch. We’ve secured the hostages. We’re coming out the way we came in. Are we clear?”

“You will be,” comes Cassandra’s reply over the radio.

He looks over at the disheveled group of prisoners. “Follow me and do everything I say, when I say it. Understand?”

They give a general affirmation.

He leads them to the door, and then stops to give you an even look. “Good luck,” he tells you, before leading them out.

You fiddle with your radio as you tail behind the group, heading for the stairs. “I’m on my way up,” you say into the device.

“Make it quick,” comes Isaac’s reply. “We’re almost to Cordeliate.”

You split off from the civilians and head up the stairs while Harvey takes them onward to the garage. You take the stairs two at a time, and quickly come out onto the ground floor, into a fancy parlor. Or at least, what used to be a fancy parlor. All the furniture is upended and shredded. Shattered glass coats the floor.

A broken body lies draped over the back end of a couch, a broken shotgun not two feet from him. As you watch, he lets out a pained groan, though doesn’t move. (Wrecked guy: 2/10 HP) Bullet marks pepper the wall behind him, from which hangs a sizable painting of a serene coast. The tilting picture looks about two breaths away from falling off the wall.
>>
>>32672177

You push onward, cautiously, SMG at the ready. You hear another bark of gunfire, though it seems a little bit crisper than if it had come through the floor separating you from the second story. You follow it, and find a staircase. You make your way upward, and come into a regal hallway. Whoever decorated this place has been to one renaissance fair too many. Tapestries hang from the walls, and a lush red carpet lies spread out at your feet.

You see the crumpled form of a goat man further down the hallway, a silver bolt sticking out of his chest. Behind him are two regular gunmen, one with his arm torn from a socket and another that looks like he’s been mostly cleaved in half. You can make out some conversation from that direction, from inside the room at the far end of the hall, the doors of which have been knocked off their hinges.

The first voice is low, feminine, and mellifluous. “-predictable. Put down your weapons or she dies.”

There’s a pause. “Do as she says,” comes Isaac’s voice.

“But dad –“ That’s Rowan.

“Just do it. Trust me.”

“That’s right,” says the unknown speaker. “Listen to your father, angelkine.”

You hear a hearty chuckle. “Oruzhia nam ne nuzhin, shtobi vas ubeet,” says Borislav. From the tone of his voice, you’d bet he just said something way badass.

Cordeliate has the three of them on the ropes from the sound of things. She obviously has a hostage, but she doesn’t know about you.

While they’re talking, you go into a low crouch and move along at a quick pace, careful not to make any noise. If Cordeliate can hear as well as you can, you’re not going to take any chances. You take a turn and utilize what little you remember of the house’s layout to get to the other entrance of the master study. You move fast enough that there’s not too much time for the situation inside to deteriorate, though you keep an ear glued to the proceedings inside.

“Take their weapons,” Cordeliate orders. “And the druid’s staff.” Uh oh. Someone else is in there besides her and your side. “Who is it that told you of this place?”

“I followed the stench,” Isaac says.

There’s a peal of light laughter. “Protecting a devil now, are we?” she says. “What business have you with one of our kind, Demonbane? Whatever she promised you, I can do far better. We could destroy Meckor tomorrow morning, working together.”

You come up on the back door. Well, it’s not really a back door, it’s more like a side door. The point is, nobody’s going to be looking for you to bust in from that direction. You think you have a pretty good bead on Cordeliate from the sound of her voice, as well as where Isaac is standing.

“I’m not the first one you’ve fed that line to,” says Isaac.
>>
>>32672817
You can almost sense the tension building in the atmosphere. You don’t have much time. You check yourself. You’ve already reloaded your SMG, so you’ve got a full magazine. You have a smoke grenade, though it might not do too much in the next split second. You don’t know exactly what you’re going to find on the other side of the door. You need to think your plan through and act – but there’s so much that could go wrong.

You need to know already what you’re going to do before you have to do it for every contingency, so you can rely on your super reflexes and not your somewhat sluggish critical thinking capability. You might start by switching the lights off in the corridor, you could use the darkness. Other than that, there’s a big fancy roman column thing you could pull over to use as cover from the doorway, since the doors of the room swing inward.

>Come up with a plan. (?)
>>
>>32672518

That's a good point. You would have done it if I hadn't rushed through.

>>32672830

>>
>>32672830
I think we should try to take down whoever Cordeliate orders around and leave her to Isaac and Bear. I wouldn't shut down the lights so Isaac can see where her throat is.
>>
>>32672915
No, we need to launch a sneak attack. Don't announce we're here ahead of time.
>>
>>32672961
Knock out the lights. Becoming the night. Wrestle the bitch from the hostage, and fight her with every tooth and claw we got.
>>
>>32672961
Launch a sneak attack on a woman surrounded by dudes in a room we cant see inside?
>>
>>32672830
It sounded like she had a hostage on her. Separating her from the hostage should be pretty high priority with whatever it is we're doing, while we still have the element of surprise.
>>
>>32672979
Hrm. We do have night vision and she probably doesn't. I wonder who her hostage is anyway.

But yeah, I have to agree. Shut off the lights, become the night, travel behind her and tear her head and/or arms off. At least one arm.

I assume we can shut the lights off in the room Cordeliate and the others are?
>>
>>32672830
Lights off will be a big help. If we corrupt our SMG, do our bullets burn? That might be something to do if it turns into a firefight. Assuming we can't get in quietly to ambush her, pulling Cordeliate's attention away from whoever she's threatening is our immediate concern as it'll free the others up to act as well as give the potential hostage room to try and break away. Since she's Belphegorean (I think) we should be ready to steel ourselves mentally.
>>
>>32672830
Switch the lights off, try to go inn quiet draped in shadows and disable the lights in the room, but be prepared to go full hellfire whip if they notice us.
>>
>>32672830
Sap Will did pretty well in the last hostage situation. We could try that again.
>>
You don't know if you can turn off the lights in the room you're going into. The switch would have to be right next to you, or the light would have to be easily shootable. You can, however, turn out the lights in the hallway.

You could try corrupting your bullets and shooting them, though you don't know at this point what exactly that would do.
>>
>>32673058
We're up against a demon who specialises in that class of magic. She may well be immune to any of those tricks, so we shouldn;t rely on them.
>>
>>32673058
But it's a higher ranking demon this time. If it can even affect her, it'll likely be super hard to do so.

Whatever we do, we have to sneak in. Open the door only a little and quietly, or look trough the keyhole if it's possible. Yeh?
>>
>>32673072
I'm having hard time understanding the layout. You should totally draw it.
>>
>>32673093
From the way things have been described, I think we don't have time for that anymore. We have to come up with general plans for possible situations to guide our actions as we bust in.
>>
>>32672991
Actually sounds like a hentai plot.
>>
>>32672817
>Protecting a devil
>Whatever she promised you

...is she talking about us? This could be interesting if so.

It sounds like the people dealing with our guys are her mooks, while she's hanging back.

...how long has this been since we radioed Isaac, and how beat up did they sound then? Whether or not they'll be able to soak up a few hits in the confusion as everything kicks off makes a difference to how much we can let them handle things if we provide a distraction.
>>
>>32672830
How about:
>Turn off hallway lights
>Hellbolt the fuck out of that goddamn door and hope Isaac & Co take advantage of the distraction
>Get into close range and shoot a thing into face with SMG

>>

So there's no fucking way she won't notice us opening the door.
Then we have to go inn quick and get Rowan safe before she can hurt her.
>>
>>32673272
Thanks! I like it!

Anyway, my plan is this:
>>32673267
OR
>Turn off hallway lights
>Hellbolt the fuck out of that goddamn door and hope Isaac & Co take advantage of the distraction
>Magic Miss- Hellbolt Hellbolt Hellbolt to the nearest non-demonbitch enemy
>>
If she is in fact a Belphegorean, she's probably slightly more physically frail than most demons (like Twilight McDouchesparkle), and also more used to convincing others to fight for her/talking down opponents. Taking the fight to her would certainly be a great distraction, and hopefully play to her weaknesses.

Kind of awkward to try and plan anything when we don't know much more that "they're in that room, our guys are at the disadvantage for now"
>>
How about we deploy the smoke behind the other door to act as an distraction? The smoke should creep from under the door to draw their attention.
>>
>>32673335
Might not be able to get there and back quickly and be quiet while we do it.
>>
>>32673313
Why waste PP hellbolting the door? We can just slam through it the normal, energy conserving way and still be extremely loud and distracting.

>>32673335
probably too late for that, I think the next stuff we do is us going in.
>>
>>32673357
It'd make a bigger noise and a bigger distraction, and I think that's exactly what Isaac is waiting for.
>>
>>32673376

It'd probably be not much better at opening a door as shotgunning it, which is to say fucking crap. Loud, impressive, and nowhere near big enough to fit through. It'd massively delay our entry and cost us PP for the sake of a slightly better instantneous distraction.

Our hellbolt is not at grenade levels of damage, from prior use, and that's what you need to have any hope of clearing a closed household doorway.

Toss the smoke grenade at the bitch. Yell out, "WILDCARD, BITCHES!"

Make her think its a real grenade and as she's flailing about we tackle her and fight her with every tooth and claw we got.
>>
We can't risk winging our allies with missed range attacks, so I'm inclined to go with melee (plus hellfire claws because MORE PAIN, we should earn back the cost in a few hits anyway). We want to pull attention off any hostages, so they can turn back into fighters faster since we can;t handle the room on our own I suspect. Cordeliate is also fairly important to hit, being the one directing proceedings and also possibly a bit of a soft target like the other one of her type who met with us. Having the lights off in the hall gives us flexibility with falling back if things get too hot in there and we need to briefly recover.

“And you won’t be the last,” says Cordeliate.

You know she’s about to execute some evil scheme, so, being out of time, you shove in through the door.

You have about zero seconds to take in the scene before you. Isaac, Rowan, and Borislav stand to one side. Rowan’s hair glows white, and she blazes with bright angelic glory that makes her vest and clothing look like impenetrable silver and gold armor versions of jeans and tactical vest. Isaac looks similar, though a shimmering band of gold sits affixed just above his head. Blood and scratches mar Borislav’s face, and a dark, near feral glint shines in his eyes.

On the other side of the court, you see a tall, elegant woman clutching a crying, mousey teenaged girl to her bosom and holding a sword to her throat. Two goatmen stand at her sides and slightly to her front, both holding submachine guns. A thin, intelligent type of guy in a suit that could be a lawyer stands slightly behind the trio of demons, and leans back on a desk that has a crossbow, a sword, and a staff lying on top of it. The guy has a smug little smile on his face.

Cordeliate has long, silky black hair, a complexion like that of fine marble, and an outfit that looks like she ripped it off the set of the Matrix. So. Much. Leather. The blade with which she holds the girl hostage is a thin, black rapier that gleams dangerously in the light.

All of the evil doers turn at your entrance, surprised.
>>
>>32674527
“Boo!” you shout, letting your SMG hang by your side to free your claws.

The lawyer type dives behind the desk at the first sign of trouble.

You summon forth your fiery whip, draw back, and strike out toward a spot above the whole demonic congregation, pouring fourth a liberal charge of hellfire into the burning lash as you do so. (-7 PP: 8/25)

The demons instinctively flinch away from the incoming fire. The whip cracks above the nearest goatman with an exploding snap, coating the demon in a sheet of writhing flame. The intensity of the heat quickly sets his dark brown fur alight – the demon is too preoccupied with bleating and shrieking as it tries to wipe the fire from its body to do much else for the moment. (Billy: 16/25 [On fire])

The other goatman opens fire on the demon hunters, but Rowan’s just a split second faster. She already has her handgun drawn and drills her opponent in the head with a burst of well-placed shots – the demon balks and tumbles over backward, his weapon spraying a dozen rounds up into the ceiling. (Gruff: 7/25)

Isaac sprints right at Cordeliate and dives at her, high. Out of pure reflex, the demon throws her hostage away from her and whips to the side to avoid the tackle. As Isaac sails by, Cordeliate whips her blade around and strikes him in the chest. When the sword makes contact with his glowing form, it sounds like a crack of thunder.
>>
>>32674542
A burst of electrical energy blasts from the blade of the sword to Isaac, and blows him backward as if hit by a truck. He flies into the bookcase on the wall, colliding with enough force to smash the whole thing, and bounces off it to hit the ground along with an avalanche of books. (Isaac: 23/30)

Borislav barks out a pair of words in a commanding tone. “Zver! Totoshka!” Two hazy white wolves suddenly come into existence at his side. “Ubei!” he shouts, pointing at Cordeliate.

The white wolves rush into liquid motion, moving half like animals, half like a flowing river.

Cordeliate snarls and brings her rapier to bear on the approaching animals, and you, a look of unremittent hate etched into her features – it seems to break the illusion of her beauty, giving her nearly perfect form a kind of horrific tinge. She has, for the moment, put Isaac at her back, though he looks stunned enough that he might not be able to take advantage of the fact.
>>
>>32674564

This is going well so far, but the way the hairs on the back of your neck are standing on end warn you something is about to go very wrong. The mousey girl she’d been holding hostage is midway between you and the demon – anything that happens likely will be very bad for her.

>>

Well, the demons are scrambling now, and it's a better throw than what pulled us through last time, so it should be enough to keep everything safe for now. Just far from ideal.
>>
“Go, get out of here!” you yell at the girl, circling around to leave her a way out. This also has the added advantage of letting you flank the demon and get closer to the weapons of your allies. You let the fire whip evaporate into sparks, and raise your SMG and start shooting at the goatmen. The one on fire dives to the ground after taking a couple hits (Gruff: 9/25), while the other is next to dead after being sprayed. (Billy: 1/25)

The crying girl scrambles to her feet and books it for the door just as the wolves reach Cordeliate. The demon stretches forth a hand to meet the leading wolf as it leaps for her throat. When the creature makes contact with her, the wolf explodes suddenly with a fading shimmer of light and a pained howl. Borislav winces when the wolf goes, but doesn’t call off the second.

Rowan takes advantage of the distraction to circle around the other side of the demon, around the side where her dad is struggling to get back to his feet. “Sierra, the weapons!” she yells, whipping her weapon out to shoot at Cordeliate.
>>
>>32675314

The demon ducks the rounds with inhuman speed and grace, just as the other wolf dodges in for a strike. She swipes her blade out in an arc before her and catches the animal in the side. There’s a burst of lightning, and the ephemeral wolf goes flying like a golf ball hit by a nine iron. It slams into a cluster of chairs, partially flowing about them as it goes, and scrambles back to its transparent feet, trying to ready itself for another attack.

“What have we here?” Cordeliate says, turning sharply toward you and smiling broadly. You make the mistake of making eye contact with her. A surge of unnatural, all-encompassing fear clamps down on your mind as you meet her dark eyes, making it difficult to remember how to move or why you’re not screaming and running for your life. Avoid eye contact and try to push through the fear, but feign her powers working on you at least a little. It will help hold her attention on you, and make her complacent. How close are we to Cordeliate and the weapon desk plus the hiding maybe-demon lawyer? While we want to keep Cordeliate distracted and the goats are largely out of commission by this point, we do not want to give the guy room to try and use the weapons, especially the magic crossbow.

Hey Languid, you have the abilities divided into Infernus/Verwelkan/Belphegoran when we select new ones.

Any chance of making it so we can tell what they are in the pastebin? I know most of them are really obvious, but putting a (In) / (Ve) / (Be) next to the names to signify which type they are would be nice.
>>
I wonder how much of our glamour etc. we let drop after the hostages got saved. If we suddenly sprout horns and simultaneously get Verwelken skin and teeth, that'd probably be quite terrifying to a demon who knows that infernus/verwelken mixes should be impossible since the power buildup makes them explode.
>>
>>32676051
...though that guy way back in the costco didn't seem too surprised if I remember right, so maybe they're less impossible and more highly uncommon, and Isaac just has limited information. Unless he was fairly ignorant himself and didn't realise the mix shouldn't work.
>>
>>32676051
"Nooo! Don't explode on me! Get away!"

No innuendo meant.
>>
>>32676107
More like the power should have made us explode as an infant, but we're still intact in our mid-late teens. Which says distressing things about our strength.

Also, LEWD.
>>
You grit your teeth, and punch out the demon’s fake fear with a fist of pure willpower. The only one who gets to screw with people’s emotions for their own benefit is you. (-15 Stress: 34/100)

“Fuck you,” you say, standing your ground and condensing your anger into a pinpoint. You release it in Cordeliate’s direction. (-5 PP: 3/25) (+5 Stress: 39/100)

The demon seems to sense what’s happening and dodges to the side, but you were too quick this time, and she takes it in the shoulder. Cordeliate falters and half falls to the ground, gasping in anger and despair. “Blood traitor!” she screams.

Meanwhile, Rowan runs up to the desk from behind, with Isaac moving slowly not too far behind. You can hear a panicked yelp from behind it. “I had no choice!” yells the lawyer guy, you assume.

Rowan flicks out her baton and delivers a hard, downward strike on somebody that’s out of your line of sight. Then, she grabs the crossbow off of it and heaves it back through the air. Isaac skids to the ground and catches it on the floor, and hastily begins shoving another bolt into the weapon.

Borislav makes his way around on your side, but before Rowan can grab anything else, Cordeliate lets out a shrill screech. The sound makes your teeth and insides hurt. (+3 Stress: 42/100) (-1 HP: 14/15)

“Ranthix!” screams Cordeliate.

A dark shape appears outside the big window by the desk. Then, the entire section of the wall there suddenly explodes inward with a burst of singing heat. The overpressure upends the desk, sends Rowan cartwheeling through the air, and knocks you and Borislav backward off your feet and onto the floor, delivering a solid, crushing force to your chest as it does so. (+3 Stress: 45/100) (-1 HP 13/15)

Not even Cordeliate escapes unscathed, and being in the central blastzone, is tossed backward in a hail of debris – the look of rage on her otherwise beautiful face shows that she is not too happy about this development. (Cordeliate: 19/23 HP)

In with the explosion rides a masculine figure wreathed with flame. The thing grinds to a halt in the wreckage on its knees, and quickly pops up, an M60 at the ready. It’s legs are vaguely canine in structure, and its feet terminate in great talons. It’s hands are clawed, and it’s flesh consists of leathery plates and boney protrusions, beneath which you can almost sense rippling cords of muscle. A pair of massive horns sprout out of the front of the thing’s skull, and a boney, serrated tail twitches out from behind him.

He wears a pair of fatigues, a flak jacket, and a wickedly huge smile of great, sharp teeth that put yours to shame – the demon’s eyes glow inwardly with burning light, and a fiery glow emanates from inside his mouth when he speaks.

Our Belphegoran blood could be acting as a stabilizer. I like to think our constantly building stress is a side effect of our Verwalken and Infernus sides vying for powers, and the psychotic episodes are the only thing protecting us from going kaboom. They act as a pressure release for stress, kind of like lifting a lid off of a pot of boiling water that's about to explode. Maybe a pressure release for our body being unable to have a set predominate, too.

You work yourself into a dazed sitting position. “Holy sweet mercy,” you say, laying eyes on the Infernus. He’s even more metal than dogwalker ever dreamed of being. You scrambled behind a nearby couch that’s been knocked over, peek out at the monstrosity before you, and spray him with bullets.

The bullets impact his vest and thud into his flesh with disappointing ineffectiveness – you hit him several times, but he doesn’t even try to make for cover or anything. (Ranthix: 48/51)

Your SMG clicks empty, and Ranthix turns to look at you with a fiery grin and says, “EVERYTHING IS NOW ON FIRE.”

You barely have time to get back behind the couch before you feel a wave of immense, burning heat radiate outward from the creature. You see Borislav just make it behind a chair in time to take cover from the blast. Almost everything seems to burst into sudden flame at his words, casting the whole room into hellish light. You’ll have to be careful where you step if you don’t want to get burned, now.

“Aaah!” Cordelaite wails, pulling herself to her feet and batting at her hair, which is burning. “You’re trying to kill them, remember?!” She whips her sword about and cuts off most her hair to get rid of the offending section. But then Rowan appears from almost nowhere, letting out a furious shout and charing with her sword raised.
>>
>>32677186

The demon blocks her attack, and the two begin exchanging a series of rapid blows, their weapons shrieking whenever they make contact with one another.

Smoke and heat billow into the room.

Borislav raises a hand out of cover and yells, “Suda!” His staff rattles out from beneath a piece of drywall and rockets into his awaiting grip. “Defense strong, I attack!” says Borislav to you, crouching back into cover. “Zver!”

The shimmering form of the white wolf heaves itself out of the wreckage, nearby where Rowan and Cordeliate trade blows. At the same time, Borya seems to be working up his concentration to do his bear thing.

You take a peek out from your smoldering couch, and see Isaac ready his crossbow and let a bolt fly at Ranthix. The bolt catches the demon in the leg, where it bursts into gold, screaming light. The demon goes down onto a knee, takes aim at Isaac with one hand on the machine gun, and uses the other to tear the bolt out before it can do anything more. (Ranthix: 40/51)

Isaac sprints out of the room while Ranthix tracks him with the machine gun, trigger depressed. Rattling gunfire explodes everything apart behind the Demonbane, and sparks off of Isaac’s glowing form as if he were made of solid steel. (Isaac: 19/30)

If we can manage to pull off tagging one of the demons to drain PP, that might be good. ... Or it might not be. Ranthix could probably tear our head off and I don't wanna go for leatherbitch until he's dead or at least less likely to shit fire upon everything again.

[I did some math wrong on the stress. You’re at 50.]

And then Borislav figures his thing out, because he becomes a huge bear. The sudden increase of his size knocks over the chair he’d been huddling behind, and draws Ranthix’s attention.

Borya charges forward, and you leap up to follow behind, claws at the ready – Ranthix looks like he could snap you like a twig, but if you could get in there with Borislav distracting him, you might be able to do some damage.

Ranthix points his M60 offhandedly at Boris and opens fire. You do quick job of corrupting the weapon in his hand (+2 Stress: 52/100; -2 PP: 1/25)), which darkens and hisses angrily at being held, but Ranthix lets out a bellow of anger and forces himself to keep hold of the weapon long enough to get a few hits on the charging druid – luckily, it looks ilke Borislav’s pelt is a little thicker than the average bear’s, and he keeps himself barreling toward his opponent. (Borislav: 30/42)

Ranthix throws his cursed machine gun aside and braces for impact with Borislav. The bear slams into him in a burst of a ton of muscle and bone. To your utter dismay, Ranthix manages to work Boris into an armlock and turn his weight against him, throwing the bear off his legs and getting beneath him. With strength you’ve never seen before in your life, the demon heaves the bear up on his shoulders, turns laboriously toward the hole in the wall, and mightily heaves Borislav out the breach.
>>
>>32678036
But all of that concentration has given you ample time to get into position. Dodging around scorching fires that rapidly spread through the room, you get behind Ranthix and leap onto his back. Your claws skitter off his leathery flesh rather than cut, but somehow you find purchase and dig into sections in-between the boney plates where his arms meet his shoulders. (Ranthix: 37/51 HP)

And then you bite him in the neck. Your teeth almost rebound off of his thick, ashen hide, but you clench your jaw harder, forcing them inward, forcing your fangs to break his skin. He laughs maniacally and reaches about to claw at you, and whips your back with his sharp tail. You feel cuts open up on your back, and his grasp cut through your arms at places – luckily your claws and the hardened, jagged flesh of your forearms repulses the main part of his effort to shred you to piece, but even so, within a matter of moments, you’re in severe pain. (-5 HP: 9/14)

And then he forces your grip to budge, and the demon grabs you about the wrist and hurls you off of him. You don’t have any sense of direction for a moment, but then you’re acutely aware that you’re splayed out on a crushed table. Something is certainly broken, but you can’t tell exactly what it is. At least you managed to drain some of Ranthix’s sizable powerbase away for your own use. (-2 HP: 7/14) (+7 PP: 8/25) (+16 Stress: 68/100)
>>
>>32678053

You groggily raise your head, and find Rowan and Cordeliate trading blows in front of you. Ro is holding up her end of the bargain quite nicely with Borislav’s spirit wolf biting and darting around the demon’s heels, keeping her on the defensive and keeping her from landing a blow with her lightning power ranger sword. (Cordeliate: 13/23; Rowan: 14/16)

Ranthix is heading towards you and the duelers, smiling balefully. He wades through burning flame as if it were nothing more than passing mist. Rowan’s back is to the demon currently – she might not see his approach, though certainly she saw you get thrown over to this side of the room.

A taste of blood in the corner of your mouth tells you that your assault on the Infernus wasn’t quite in vain, and the corner of your lips quirk upward in a smile. (-7 Stress: 61/100)

You feel like you’re missing something critical about the current tactical situation, but your stunned mind can’t get its act together quickly enough.

Use the fire whip on Cordeliate, try to give Rowan an opportunity to quickly gut her. Then I say we take Rowan and get the fuck out of the room, there's a hole in the wall we could go through, it'd hopefully get us back under Cassandra's Overwatch and link us back up with Borya.

Rowan needs to be aware of the psycho. clawing at cordeliates back might be good for both our power and rowan's fight, but I'm concerned about whatever it is that's broken. Is the lawyer type toast now as well?

Also, Isaac has been out of the room for a suspicious length of time.

>>32678318
Aw yeah

hopefully this mitigates for anything we're overlooking and lets us keep control of the situation.

Depending on how hectic things are (i.e. is the massive infernus about to inflict grievous injury on us and ours), we might want to take a mouthful out of cordeliate when she's suitably weakened; we could use the healing and as a new demon type a little should go a relatively long way.
>>
>>32678419
>we might want to take a mouthful out of cordeliate when she's suitably weakened
Agreed.
>>
You roll off the broken table. There’s no time to reload the SMG, so you’ll have to settle for the next best thing. You push yourself up to your feet and zip your flaming whip out of thin air. Indiana Jones would be proud, you think to yourself. (-2 Stress: 59/100, -2 PP: 6/25)

You wring the glowing whip about your head and crack a seering lash directly across Cordeliate’s leather-clad back, splitting her pretentious black vest open at the back and searing her flawlessly white skin. (Cordeliate: 9/23) The demon shouts a curse and twitches at the strike, but barely falters in her defense as Rowan presses the attack – man, she’s way good. But Rowan’s way good too, and she manages to nick the demon a couple more times. (Cordeliate: 7/23)

“Big guy’s on your back!” you shout, shakily bringing yourself up to your feet.

Ro doesn’t look at the Infernus almost breathing down her neck, but does take advantage of Cordeliate’s weakened state to edge around her and get to your side. “Run!” she says.

She grabs you and helps you get some momentum. Whatever’s wrong, it hurts to run and you don’t feel quite as able to accelerate or slow down as you should be. As you run, your fire whip trails behind you, leaving a line of burnt carpet as you go.

“Kill them kill them kill them!” Cordeliate shouts from behind you.
>>
>>32679064

A rough bout of furious laughter sounds behind you, and you hear heavy footfalls of pursuit – without his legwound, it’s possible Ranthix would have already caught you by now, but as it is, you and Rowan manage to stay ahead of him into the hall and out of the burning room. The relief from the heat is welcome against your skin, feeling almost arctic by comparison.

The two of you run straight forward at the intersection of hallways – turning would only slow you down and let the demon at your heels catch you. You could barely take it when you came at him from behind. If he got you in his kill zone, you don’t think you would last very long at all.

You turn to look back. Ranthix leaves fiery footsteps in the carpet of the hall as he barrels after you. The tapestries along the wall combust into flame at his passing, spreading an inferno in his wake. “COME BACK HERE AND DIE!” he shouts. It is, perhaps, one of the scarier things you have seen today. (+7 Stress: 66/100)
>>
>>32679083

When he passes the intersecting hallway, a glowing bolt of white fire catches him in the shoulder and knocks him off his feet. The demon plows horns-first into a wall, smashing partially through it before bouncing off and regaining his balance. He snarls and tears the bolt out the moment after it’s in. You can smell the blood bubbling from the wound as you continue running. (Ranthix: 27/51)

The demon disappears down the other hall after Isaac. The Demonbane will have a hard time reloading his crossbow with Ranthix right behind him. As for you, it doesn’t look like Cordeliate is pursuing you. It would be a tough feat to make it through the flaming corridor to give chase anyway.

Rowan and you slow up for a second. “Dad’s in trouble,” she says, clutching her sword in the hand that’s not on you.

Whatever we do, we can keep Cass clued in just by pinging the radio on. Let them know we got a bite in, so barring special resistance the infernus has venom acting on him a little as well.

While I sorely want to finish Cordeliate off and get some tasty tasty healing for our probable broken leg before going after Ranthix, and we DEFINITELY need to make sure she doesn't escape, if the situation is bad for Isaac then she's weak enough that Cass should be able to blow her away should she try and do a runner.

Depending on which way people were running, making sure to back up Isaac might not preclude staying vaguely aware of Cordeliate's movements.
>>
Do we currently have Ranthix's and Cordeliate's scents memorized by this point? It should make it easier to track down Cordeliate again, and might make it harder for her to sneak up on us if she's upwind of us.

“C’mon, I know where Isaac’s going,” you say, leading Rowan toward the stairs. “He’s going out the back, where your mom’s covering with the sniper. Rowan stops suddenly. “Boris. Cordeliate’s going after Boris,” she says in realization, indecision tearing at her. “I don’t think he can take her on by himself with that sword.”

>>
>>32679435
Our gimped leg right now probably makes us a poor choice against Ranthix, since our ranged stuff is either the SMG he shrugged off, or fire which he probably won't care about. All I can think of that we have is the ability to corrupt his flak vest. Meanwhile, our hellfire whip should ignore cordeliate's sword as it will just wind past it. Cordeliate is seriously hurt and her swordplay doesn't seem great against two people at once. Even with us and Borya hurting, splitting her attention we should make short work of her.

We are copying Cass in on this discussion right, so she can be ready to fire?

>>
>>32679888
Corrupt, use our Whip from outside her range, if she's somewhere dark we could use Shadow Grasp to yank her sword arm aside so we can pounce on her and bite/claw the fuck out of her.
>>
>>32679986
a whip can't be parried by a sword and has superior reach; if we get a little lucky cordeliates' weakened state should let us wrest the sword from her if it gets entangled, especially if the tip of the whip can scorch her hand.
>>
You do a brief stint of mental calculus. Isaac’s leading Ranthix into a trap – he doesn’t need to rely on his crossbow to get a takedown there. But Borislav got separated from everyone, and you don’t think it’s a good idea to try to take a Belphergoran in a one on one fight, especially one with a wicked bad lightning sword. His bear form won’t help him out at all in that kind of fight.

“Look, you go look after your dad,” you say, as the two of you hit the bottom of the stairs. “I’ll go get Borya’s back, between me and him we’ll make quick work of her, she’s on her last legs.”

Ro nods, and runs off through the ruined house. You pick another direction and make your way over to where Ranthix threw Boris out of the building. You can smell smoke and the house feels abnormally hot – you’re grateful you have no more real business here.

You go out through a shockingly pristine kitchen and exit the building into the night, your eyes instantly taking in the darkness as if it were a second day. This side of the compound is virtually unlit, save by the fires that are beginning to consume the upper story of the mansion. You’re going to have a field day.

Still, you’re not in Cassandra’s line of sight. You have to watch out for yourself. You pause and inhale the breeze, searching for the bitter taste of Cordeliate’s blood. You grab onto it, and start moving. You round a large piece of shrubbery, and come upon an unpleasant sight.
>>
>>32680136

Boris is no longer a bear, and is crouched in a small, faintly shimmering sphere. His face is contorted in an expression of great pain, and both his hands clutch the staff planted in the ground before him, his knuckles white with exertion. Cordeliate stands a few paces off with a content smile, her gaze affixed to the druid, and her black rapier low at her side. Borislav’s lupine companions are nowhere to be seen. He looks okay physically, but from the way he’s shivering you think it’s all he can do to stay on his feet. (Borislav: 15/20)

“Your pain is exquisite,” says the demon, taking a deep, satisfied breath. She looks to have already recovered from the worst of her injuries. “I have seen greater men suffer less without such grace.” (Cordeliate 14/23)

You still have your fire whip coiled about your right hand, should you choose to use it.

We rolled a 2, and our target hasn't noticed us yet.

We are going to steamroll the bitch

>Remember to steal the sword after we kill her.
It would be cool to have. Rowan has her sword thing, Isaac has his angel crossbow, Sierra has a pilfered lightning rapier.

But we can't PP drain with a sword can we? I think claws are the long term most beneficial weapon for us, since they can't be disarmed unless we literally get disarmed, and we can upgrade them along the way.

The sword's electric, though. It might briefly stun on a hit. Different tools for different tasks, and all that, same reason you carry a sidearm and/or a tazer along side your longarm.

Nah, we need an axe.

given how we heal when we drink the blood of our foes, perhaps a sharpened metal straw?

THIS IS MY MILKSHAKE

I'll be back in one or two hours. I'll put up a new thread then. I've got the update ready now, but seeing that I have to go it seems better to start off with it since it's a pretty cool one.

I WILL DRINK MY MILKSHAKE THEN

A hatchet of some kind would actually be pretty handy. They make good throwing weapons, they hit hard, and most people are somewhat scared of axes.
>>
>>32681401
It'd be fucked up if our claws turned into sucky needle things that could drain an enemy by stabbing into them.

I'm late to the party but I just want to say...

>The sword's electric
Could be useful in overloading electrical lights before we do our operatin'.

>bloodthirster

An apt description, considering our relationship with other peoples blood.
