You are Joshua Thirteen, UNAAF Special Forces Division Seven. A soldier of the highest degree, and have been fighting the war against the demons for the past eighty years. You were winning the battles, but losing the war. Even in the horrors of war, you built a life for yourself with a woman, Lauren, whom you had saved. But humanity was betrayed, you were betrayed. When you recovered, you found yourself in an unprecedented world, a backwards world living in fear of the demons you very nearly triumphed against.

You searched for the answers to how such a world came to pass. As you gathered power back around yourself from your demons who had stolen it away, your memories returned slowly. First of Lauren’s prognosis and incompatibility with the transdifferentiation organ. Then, with Matt as the two of you survived yet another suicide, and joined forces to fight back against the military that had betrayed you. Then you found a third memory from the soul of a demon you stole, but did not contract. That your brother killed your wife and left you for dead.

You need to take stock of assets.
You have yourself. The AI Lyrra gave you an allegedly functional Compass. Some being has offered you power in the past, he might still be good for that. The Dragon owes you a chunk of his power. All of your demons except Victoria and Akab have returned their power. You have Victoria’s blades instead of your sword. Alice is somewhere in the city and will likely help you. And you’re in the subterranean transport system, and can pop up just about anywhere you want.

>Actions?
>>
>>32693122
quickly ask Lyrra if she can make a VR for beelzebub
then i guess we have to go back to the city before matt bails
>>
>>32693292
That would take quite a bit of time. You sure you want to do that?
>>
>>32693122

so many choices, so little time...
mmm... hide the Compass, it's very important, we can't fight with the risk of breakin it.
Give it to Alice maybe ?

Time of day ? we can sneak inside the castle and see why the queen is important to Matt's grand scheme, and just beacuse Victoria is angry with us doesn't mean we shouldn't try to help her.
>>
>>32693418
after all, let's go directly to the city, beel can wait a day or two, i think...
>>
>>32693418
i say no, Beelze can wait a few days.
>>
>>32693443
It's like, two in the afternoon if memory serves.

Today, you got up at dawn, went directly to the palace to get cleaned up, accidentally the temple, chased down Skath, chased down Beel, met with Lyrra, then went to the water filtration system.

As an efficient guy, it should be like, two or three in the afternoon.
>>
I need you guys to agree.
>>
>>32693500
now it's too much time...

How far are the Dragon and Akab ?
>>
>>32693674
about 40 km to Akab, 50 to the dragon, he's not in his typical pen. Both directly towards the Annihilation Wall.
>>
>>32693712
They are... running away from... Matt? That's suspicious...
>>
>>32693712
Oh, wait, my math is bad. 30 to akab, 40 to the dragon. The dragon is under the annihilation wall by your estimate. Forgot to account for the 10 km to Lyr's capital.

>>32693807
They haven't moved much the entire time you've been aware of them, they've just been so far away you couldn't get good distances on them.
>>
Soooo....? I shouldn't let one person decide the next action by themselves.

If you're just indecisively floundering, at least let me know so it doesn't feel like a dead quest.
>>
If it helps, by my reckoning; the only wrong move is doing nothing, or some asinine action none of you are even considering.
>>
>>32693891
I can't think of a good course of action.
i'm waitin for other anons.
>>
>>32694004
i'm still here, and i still think we should just go back to the city. giving the compass to someone (alice? her son?) before "meeting" matt sounds like a good idea if we can.
>>
>>32694125
Wouldn't Matt look for Alice if he want the Compass ?
>>
>>32694243
if he's actively looking for it and knows we gave it to her, yeah. but i don't think the compass emits an aura or anything so it should be ok
>>
It has now been over an hour. A few of you have made suggestions, but no one at all has agreed, so there has been no decision.

Please choose now so I can progress the quest.

>Getting the Compass to Alice

You pull yourself off the ground of the transport car and move to the controls and start directing it back to the river through Lyr. When you get closer to the city, the wireless internet connection resumes, and as a side note, you send a message to Lyrra asking her to prepare Beelzebub’s simulation. You’ll have to get that to him at some point.

Lyrra messages back after a long delay, “I suppose I can try. My creator left some models in the old archives. Most of my processing is needed to keep everything from exploding.” You shrug and sit back down to watch the lights pass by the car. The cracks and rust in the tunnel are making the car’s noise echo for kilometers in every direction, but it’s moving about as fast as you can sprint, and won’t get lost.

When the car finally stops, you step out into half a foot of stagnant water. The headlights of the car flicker back to full power, momentarily illuminating the massive bulwarks holding the river over your head. The rust is so thick you’re surprised it hasn’t collapsed into the tunnels yet. There are so many tiny leaks that moss and fungi seem to be holding it together more than the old steel. Rather than wait for it to collapse on you, you quickly find a ladder of and rise to the surface, breaking through the cobblestone paved over the original access hole.

Luckily, the only people in the area are a few demi-human kids that quickly run off. You know you’re somewhere near the brewery, but you can’t sense the magpie, nor Alice until you expand your senses and find them on their way to the palace, where Matt is.

She’s nearing the palace, but she’s still close by. If you waste any time, there will be no way that Matt won’t know you’re there, so you start sprinting. You tear through the stone ground as you sprint and skid between alleys. It feels good to have most of your power back again. The restrictions of your flesh are nearly gone.

She’s on one of the main roads through the slums, you emerge onto the road a few dozen meters behind you. She turns around to see you, nibbling on a crepe casually, with Lucian at her side. Alice just steps aside as you twist and dig your feet into the ground, plowing through the road until you stop next to her. Lucian shouts and pulls out his father’s broken sword to point at you, but you just smack it out of his hands before turning back to your sister.

“You’ve gotten stronger, and I don’t see your sword,” she responds, brushing her hair back behind her ear.

“Didn’t find it, but I met with Lyrra,” you say, and her head perks up. “The AI gave me something, that I’m going to have to entrust to you,” you explain as you dig your feet out of the dirt.

“Oh, the AI.”

“Who did you think I meant?”

“Doesn’t matter. I haven’t seen her in ages. She’s still running?”

“Not sure you can call it running, but yeah,” you say as you dig the Compass out of your pocket. It still has the ambiguous glow from when you first acquired it.

“What is it?” Alice asks as she passes her crepe to Lucian, who’s barely controlling his frustration.

>Response?
>>
>>32695181

You guys are really making me want to drop the quest.
>>
>>32695181
>be vage
just something important, i don't want matt stealing it
>>
"It's nothing right now, later it could be important. I just don't want Matt to get his hands on it," you respond.

Alice shakes her head. "If Matt wanted this, he'd already have it. Haven't you learned anything? The only reason you have this right now is because he wants you to have it. So, what is it?"

>Response?

>>32695773

>>
>>32695773
"It's the Compass and apparently it leads to the 'Exit' of this 'imaginary' world."

“It’s the Compass, the device Lauren was originally working on. Apparently, it’s functional now. It’ll be able to lead me to something very important, but I won’t know it till I see it. And I won’t be able to use it until this is all over, so I need you to keep it safe. And keep yourself safe. Why are you going to the palace?”

“Because Matt isn’t trying to kill us, you’re trying to kill him. We’ll be fine. Or would you rather us go somewhere else?” Alice asks as she holds the crystal sphere up in the afternoon light.

>Response?
>>
>>32696072
"yeah, a place where we don't live like peasants afraid of everything and where people don't shit out of their windows.

was me locking in my use of the Deal before any of you asked for it.

And I can do this three more times.

Yes this is supposed to frustrate you. The Deal is not get out of jail free, it's "let's ride the narrative rails a bit longer"
>>
"Somewhere you won't live like a mud farming peasant covered in their own filth. Somewhere that isn't this fucked up," you explain as you look towards the palace. Something is bothering you, but you can't quite put your finger on what it is yet.

"Sorry bro, can't go back to the past in anything but memories. I have to keep moving forward, and the best way for me to do that is at Matt's side, whether you like that or not," Alice explains.

"We are still going, right?" Lucian mumbles.

And then you realize what you're noticing. It was subtle at first, but then all pretenses were dropped. You can see Victoria's essence draining into the sky, drifting straight up until it finds you, and then it gets sucked towards you like it was part of a whirlwind.

Save for her power coming towards you, you can't feel her presence any more. She's entirely gone. And she wouldn't have just given you her power back. You hadn't even tried to pull it away from her. Something happened.

When her power soaks into your body, you immediately feel the impression on it. She had been with Matt, and now you can't feel her. She asked you to be there to help her, to hold Matt off, and you left. You went power hunting and left her behind, and he got to her.

>Crit fail

“Son of a bitch!” you roar as loud as you possibly can. Every window within three blocks of where you’re standing shatters and every pedestrian falls down in shock save for Alice. Even if he didn’t sense your outburst, Matt probably heard that. He knows you’re going to come for him.

As you pant and catch your breath, glaring at the palace, you can feel your other demons. Akab is calling out to you, practically begging you to come get his power back. And you can feel the Dragon.

>>
“What happened Josh?” Alice asks as she steps away from you. The compass is glowing like a light, must be a reaction to your outburst. Lucian is next to her, on his feet again despite bleeding from the ears. He has a wooden practice sword pointed at you.

“Matt got to Victoria,” you growl back at her as you feel the ground beneath your feet rumble as the Dragon moves. He’s going to come for you. Might even try to stop you.

But you know that Matt is just sitting in there laughing, waiting for you to come.
>>

>>
So, you guys realize that just because we can't sense her, doesn't mean she's dead, right? We might be able to still save her, if we go straight there.
>>
>>32705305
And on top of that, we finally have an example of how the Deal is going to be used against us. There wasn't much chatter about that at all. You people still going to be trying to spam the deal at every oppurtunity?

We should talk about things or this quest is going to get dropped.
>>
>>32705305
now that you say it, that's possible

>>32705338
who could have thought it would be a good idea to spam the deal in the first place? it sounded clear to me it'd be used that way (well, maybe not to push a fail to a critfail, but still)
>>
>>32705338
I kinda gave up opposing people when they do the deal. It's amusing seeing them dig themselves into a pit.
>>
>>32705506
If you keep going there will be fireworks and candy.

Everyone loves those.
>>
Why the fuck are you people still reading this?

It's thread 18 and you're still getting asspulls about the setting.
None of the characters are likeable
The motivation is hamhanded and crude
The bad guy hasn't even been seen yet but he's a fucking Aizen clone
The fight scenes are whiplashes of shit that completely disregard any semblence of power increase
The pacing is out the god damn window
And characters get unceremoniously killed off screen because you aren't active enough for the QM

Why the fuck are you people still here?
>>
>>32706081
I want to see how many more QB deals the players take.
>>
>>32706164

>>
>>32706081
i can't really tell why, but i like it, really

>>
>>32706433
Or - and this is just an idea - players just don't stick around long after the thread is dead to argue with a shitstirrer from QTG.
>>
>>32710371
But that's a terrible idea. In like half of the threads so far, I've posted critical information well after the end of the thread.
>>
>>32711571
I leave the thread open in a tab until it's killed and read what's posted, I just don't sit around in it desperately waiting for some faggot to post some stupid shit so I can respond to it (no offense, Frank).
>>
can we plan our next moves ?

>ignore Matt and his bait
>find Scath and retrive the remaining power and memory ( what kind of deal did we cut with the Dragon? )
>track Akab, take power
>track Dragon

>>
>>32712008
I'd plan, but the thread will die and at some point a new one will be made with no warning. It always seems to be the people that ignore plans and don't think actions through which find quest threads first, so it takes a round or two of updates before anyone else notices it but by that time they've already dug the mc deeper into a pit of trouble.

>>32712056

>>32712008

>You sure you want to ignore Matt and not rip him limb from limb?

You know maybe if you actually let players explore and take in your world in a more freeform manner, instead of ramming it down their throats and trying to bait them into shitty situations or trying to trip them up with Deals, then just maybe people would actually care about your quest.
>>
>>32712107
What do you think there is left to "take in"?

>The compass is glowing like a light, must be a reaction to your outburst.

yes, we are going full demon, ignore his childish provocations, what the fuck is wrong with Matt ?
>>
>>32712532
>going full demon

You've pretty much been more demon than man for a while now. And the only difference between a demon and a man is their disposition, which technology isn't going to differentiate on.
>>
>>32712557
Hey, uh, please don't stop the quest. It's p. enjoyable, if for no other reason than the setting. As for writing, I'd just say write with more detail at a quicker pace (also run longer). The thread can feel lethargic because of this, which is also partially a result of the low player base. Kinda a self-defeating cycle.
>>
>>32712557
>going full demon
I mean, we are going mindless "rip and tear" mode, that's bad.
>>
>>32712741
He's told us that it's really not.
>>
I feel the need to tell you guys that if the Dragon says no, the chances of you getting your power back are 1/100, and that's only because I'm not going to change the die on you.
>>
>>32712915
>32712915

>>
>>32712008
next moves? rip and tear matt, see if the dragon is with us or against us, then ally or rip and tear him, try to fix the world as we go Kenshiro style?
>>
>>32713310
That's... one way to describe it.

It's just like any other demon contract. It's a contest of wills, and to rip the power from him you'd have to have a stronger will than God himself.
