Last time in a strange forest in the wasteland it started to rain floods also debri- I mean treasure. A odd duel went down between our hero and something else that we only know is connected to water somehow. Seriously though its like full on swampy terrain in the lower reaches and may end up going jungle in upper ones. So much damned water...where the hell did it all come from?

That is something we don't know. On the plus side we got some rather nifty mutations and some new heroes.

Now what about nastiness?

We got zombies pouring out from somewhere guessing the waters displaced them. Monsters are either dying out or being replaced, and the bandits seem to have disappeared once more.

"Simple we fought I lost. As for you...a relic of the fall. Fall relics slumber in wastelands you know? Last places where you can find intact remnains of the Fall. That one happened to be connected to water and the water facilities lurking underneath us."

"As for whats going on no idea."

>>32697576
"And what story is that suppose to be exactly?"
>>
>>32697597
It was this:
"Master Vece may I ask why your strongly against the trees?"

"Its a long story suffice to say I know much about this forest comes from being a outcast who no one liked. Suffice to say during my youthful adventures I found out much and managed to even survive."
>>
>>32697597
"Water facilities? Is that the cause of all of this water everywhere? As you may have noticed we have recently acquired gills in order to better serve mama should the water issue become out of hand. If there are intact underwater facilities we need to do our best to investigate them, and we will need your help seeing as a post fall creature is around there somewhere. We will need your help. So please tell us all you can about these water facilities."
>>
>>32697668
>>32697597
"What should we do about our current facilities? We don't have the smarts or the equipment to waterproof the base, do we?"
>>
Rolled 62

>>32697652
"Because the so called trees have tenders...and not all those trees are actually trees. I happened to have a run in with the tenders and more."

>>32697668
"Those water facilities are what kept this forest alive despite the whole lack of water on the surface. Deep underground it purifies water and draws it out like a magnet. Unfortunately the magnet was actually a surviving fall relic. I learned that the hard way when I was young sorta got lost underground did some wandering in long forgotten and abandoned places. Deep in the tunnels past zombie hives and monster nests. There giant facilities where one could see a giant were pools and water falls while in the very center of which bearing a giant flooding orb causing the water to flow to it before getting sucked off somewhere else or falling."

"I unfortunately nearly woke it up or actually did so to an agree. Luckily it was being recovering so I hadn't bothered it too much if I had been stronger I would of finished it there before letting it recover and build back up its strength."

>>32697755
"No idea you ain't got the tech or know how. I suggest accessing the areas of this facility that you haven't reache yet. It exists as I have been there. Granted it was sorta by 'accident' but still."

We need to explore the facility. We're out of options, if there is somethign down there to help us waterproof what we have then we need it now.

"You only need teach one of us how to do it, or even better if your willing to undertake the mission with us, you can blow it up yourself."

"It may be deep underground but we have an abomination that can teleport, do you think he can zip down and take care of the problem?"
>>
>>32698001

>>
Rolled 21

Two ways one skin is more barklike and what their 'flesh' underneath are like. As for tenders imagine monsters and mutants possibly a few others as well. They are rare though and extremely hard to find."

>>32698078
Would have to know its precise location for that to work. As for my technique it is very powerful if you could fine some psi items i could teach you how to make your own. As is you have none skilled enough to learn it."
>>
>>32698001
>It is underground and hard to reach you know.
What must we do to access more of the facility?

If it's going to get sogged and wet and ruined before we even use it, we had better use it now while it's still dry.
>>
>>32698324
"So once we scout out the exact location of the facility our abomination can in fact port back and forth"

"I would hope you would be willing to take on an apprentice or teach a small class at some point, we have no guide to how psionics work, we need your basic tutelage so bad.."

Our forces went out to scavenge for resources...and failed miserably. While they DID get away with their lives they unfortunately both failed to bring back critical resources and drew forth the wrath of a nearby zombie force which is now heading this way. According to them they stumbled upon the resources some zombies were collecting and combining...to create something. They believe its a hive they were after.

Vece meanwhile has unleashed his psi devastating the area wit his power.

Abomination has attacked Zombie Heroic Unit.

zombie forces have broken apart before the combined onslaught.

Brain POWAH has indicated that these zombies are being directed somehow.

Exploration reveals a number of things.

New breeds of threats.

New monsters.

Increasing zombie numbers and new hives. The previous existing zombie hive before all of this has upgraded into something...more.

Lower areas are transforming into marsh while the higher ones are transforming into something akin to jungle.

Streams and lakes are the usual instead of the exception.

A bandit base has been spotted it seems to be the hi tech ones from earlier.

Awesome, I'd love to hear it.
We have like a dozen ideas for mutations, but the issue is our base population can only suffer so many

Our population is suffering from a mishmash of mutatinos and no clear goal in my opinion was so much easier when all Memor needed to do was man technology and fire guns while the other mutants got the different mutations we could throw onto them

We really should help Mama evolve so we can differentiate our mutants, or find more to recruit.

Seriously this. I'm a little annoyed that it wasn't obviously not our intent was so narrow mindedly interpreted when it was evident the only reason we we stopped was because of the trees moving, not because of the zombies dying.

It addresses the issue of acquiring tons of mutations. If we can acquire a few more soft/internal mutations then devote Mama towards combining them then they'll likely all fall into a "Super-Physiology" package.

Find stuff that stacks then compile them it reduces the overall penalties.

Also be aware the more complicated your form the harder it is to reproduce and the longer it will take. Especially on the longer bit and its harder to counter.

>>32702874

Suffice to say it didn't end well.

If any of our members have suggestions about the plan then speak up now.

How hard would it be to find someone with the technical knowhow to waterproof our base? Got some stuff in here we don't want sogged. We were thinking of putting kinda chambers at the doors where water can be pumped in and out so we can swim outside if it gets to that point.

"Let me guess you sense something?"

Abomination looks down at it pondering what this stranger is almost as if wandering if if it should swat away an annoying insect or not.

"Oh hello there Eden what are you doing here?"

"...I should be asking that."

"Oh I came here to find an old friend who was only so mysterious when it came to his home and family. Now i have FINALLY found it can't believe it would be so troublesome to find Vector."

"Vector?"

"Oh yes that is what we called him interesting fellow bit of a dick had real bad problems with his family and even worst one's with his tribe."

"...you mean Vece? Yeah he lived here."

...wait you lived here ALL this time and you NEVER bothered to tell me he lived here with you?

"Well...honestly you never did asked and the way you talked about him I thought he was someone else entirely.

ARGH AFTER ALL THESE FUCKING YEARS AND HE WAS RIGHT BELOW MY NOSE THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME.

Ah one of those moments...so why ARE you here anyway?

Ah Eden whose this?

Oh this Mama who happens to be Vece's mother.

...no way ITS SO GOOD TO MEET YOU!

Ah and you are?

Oh I am Shara Al'kara I knew a son for quite awhile he never did talk much about his home or his lovely mother as i see. I had to go through a great deal to find em...bah.

I would have thought most caravaners would be glad to have a respectable bunch of mutants like us take care of their ankle-biters. And it would be good to grow the population... To be honest, we made the small monster minders to take care of our food issues...which are now nonexistent.

I think we will need to spend a good long time with the labs to improve our skill. But upgrading our mutation could help.
>>
>>32706801
>And the bark skin is probably not a great help.
Yeah, it really doesn't. I'm wondering if we shouldn't, when we're able to, remove it from the base populatoin and reserve it for a special scout/soldier class who actually leaves the base.
>>
Rolled 32

Our Brain POWAH is probably as good as it gets (before we improve and combine other systemic mutations), and laser eyes have a hard limit based on the individual's psi-rating. We need something that applies universally and evenly, so our psi-weak members can still defend themselves.

As it turns out the rivers and lakes DO have lots of shit laying around and seemingly untouched at that. Our lads made an amazing fucking haul like damn we did good.

5 resources acquired.

Thanks to Shara's guidance we found some critters that will serve perfectly as a sort of 'warhound'. Strange creatures only one of which isn't new.

Acquired strange scaled but slimy beast that lurks in the waterways. They like to lurk near water and attack things that try to get a drink or go 'hunting' when its dark or particularly wet. Have a strange musty yet slimy smell to em.

Acquired leaping tree climber known as Lungars the only original member from the forest who stuck around must be particularly adaptable.

Acquired strange multi legged burrowing beasts they move in a pack and are quite deadly with their multiple limbs impaling prey as a pack they basically turn prey into a literal pincushion before tearing them apart to feast. Only around at night and prefer the darker areas. Very good hearing but subpar eyesight.

another one wandered in from basically a giant walking mouth and stomach is about best way to describe em. Like using their legs to grab or run before nomming away. Their massive mouths makes them do serious damage despite their size. One could easily lose an arm or leg to the bastards with just a single snap of their jaws.

Another tendril laden beasts that move as a pack in still water ambushing prey and working together to drag them in. Nasty bastards thanks to teamwork they are a much greater threat then what one would normally assume.

And that was just with the first hunt.

>>
Rolled 62

>>32707225

To be honest I don't even care about about acquiring conventional arms. We beat off a zombie horde with our heroes and our fists quite successfully, and we haven't even acquired any offense-specialized mutations yet.

>>32707261
Good point. They all have potential really. I think we should limit ourselves to 2 choices at most though, just for the sake of facilities and such.
>>
>>32707291
Never a bad idea to get weapons though, always good to have two cards up your sleve than one. Consider if we made the poison mutation work, we could dip our bullets in it.
>>
Rolled 52

>>32707279
Its a VERY potent taboo especially considering if you do it you get blacklisted or if your especially unlucky the 'vile' caravans take care of the problem.

In a post apoc world there are a number of large taboos that one can usually infer such as outcasts and caravans.

Worth noting that nomads don't fall under the caravan title thus don't have the 'protection'. That is why many nomads also serve as traders and such so they can enjoy the benefits while maintaining their lifestyle.
>>
>>32707291
That was luck and psi bombs. We lost one and the other ... well you know our rolls. Weapons with give us back up and damage the low psi don't have.

>>32707343
Good to know.

Right now we have 9. I say 5 for weapons and ask them to come back. We will buy water proofing if we still need it.
>>
Rolled 65

>>32707330

Yeah we should get weapons, I'm not so sure about getting them /right now/ though. Shit's super expensive right now. Once we grow our pop so our resources account for more actual stuff we'll be able to order in bulk for cheap.

>>32707370
I still would rather pay to develop a mutation that all of our soldiers will have for free forever, down the generations and without having to pay for ammo we can't manufacture.
>>
>>32707416
The weapons are a back up. But I can see a mutation as well. But with all the monster coming in we can save some time with them. So lets pick carefully.

I just really can't countenance that fuckhueg cost for something that we'll have to buy ammo for every other thread. Not when it'd be so much cheaper to acquire basic bioweaponry and harness mutations we already have/are on the edge of getting. (That being said, we'll scavenge this turn in case that's what people decide they want).

>Basic 1
Scavenge some more, in the lakes and waterways again because evidently that's a smashing good idea.

>Monster
Head out looking for more options for warhounds/companions. Or if Shara thinks that's all that we're likely to find try to locate nests/favorite haunts of the ones we've already discovered so we can acquire starter populations if necessary.

>>32707558
This thread had better stay up we're in the 3rd 1 wonderland...and I don't think that first 100 counted so those are good too.

We still need to decide which ones we want to actually cultivate populations of. The mouth-beasts are probably just about mandatory because they can likely eat just about anything (or at least can once we mutate them) and will likely make good beginner pets. (if you can get past the possibly biting your arm off)
>>
>>32707700
Eh we can eat them from the inside out. Their like us but with bigger mouths.
>>
Rolled 58

>Basic 1: Set up starter populations of beasts.
I agree we should stick to two species for now - I would vote for the spiny burrowers and the big mouth, but that should be something to vote on.
>>
Rolled 5

>>32707739

We don't have any animals right now (I don't think) the action was to find them, not acquire them. 3 species might be doable, seeing as the big-mouths are probably not very picky.

I did get the impression the earlier hunt was a scouting mission, but this is the next action so we might as well attempt to 'tame' now. I suggested the margin of error because a failure with the mouth-beasts could be pretty painful, but maybe we could do three successfully.
>>
Rolled 8

Shara, would you mind training our guys in your craft? Wrangling, capturing, taming, and training (talking too?)? Activate Brain POWAH for extra learning.
>>

Well to be fair, for fauna empathy we do have the original small monster minders as a mutation foundation, all we need to do is have Mama and Shara modify them for the new monster population since the forest left.

Flora would be a bit more difficult, Eden could not speak with the original forest trees and Vece said there already were "Tenders" and that some of the tree's really weren't trees. But not that the old forest has left, maybe the new flora would be more accepting of us.
>>
Rolled 18

>>32711362

Judging by the fact that new flora is jungle, and the fact that I hate jungle (and jungles we've been in in the past have been godawful) I'd bet it'll be harder to make the new flora like us.

That's alright though, we'll acquire mutations to remove most of its sting and then we'll learn how to use it to our advantage.
>>
>>32711743
>Judging by the fact that new flora is jungle,
Really? I was imagining more marshlands followed soon by aquatic plants as the place is slowly submerged thanks to the water overflowing.

I know we're supposed to be on a new continent, but I still can't shake the feeling our overflowing water facility is the same one the Hillybillies of the Memor were in
>>
Rolled 31

>>32711990

At the rate we're going we could be the precursors to the Memor, prepping their land for them.

I think it's evenly marsh/jungles. Which I can get behind, to be honest. We've been doing well with using the terrain to our advantage, and there's a lot to be used to our advantage in this terrain.
>>
>>32711293
How do we want our blood to be super? It already as a kick ass immune system and improved nutrients movement. I assume healing rate? In which we will need to improve our cells rate of growth with some added changes. Like ways to keep bad cells in check.
>>
Rolled 52

>>32712313

Healing/coagulation, improved oxygen capacity for better endurance, possibly toxins/poison incorporated in also, the works.

We ought to work more on healing mutations. It seems a shame that our kick-ass immune system is a thing, but we can't tie a sliced off arm onto its stump and have them reconnect no problem.

It was phrased vaguely in case of a crit.

Ah, I can see that but we still need to guild it other wise it's slow going. The more info we put behind something and ways to easily do it. The more we get. Sure if it fail that will suck. But if we do it safe and smart we will keep damaged down.

Also we should see if mama can make serums to sale with the traders. They probably have better, But worth a try.

>>32707020
I want to know if we can see the storms from here of not.
>>
Rolled 83

>>32712412

Now that I think of it, perhaps we should specialize our blood into healing and poison/toxicity. That way when we eventually combine all our system mutations our blood will mesh with our immune system quite nicely.
>>
Rolled 71

>>32712508

Because endurance can be gotten by modifying our lungs and/or muscle tissues.
>>
Rolled 53

>>32712519

Bump.
>>
>>32712412
We've failed twice at it, surely we cannot fail a third time

>>32712508
That would be a good first step toward mutant specialization
>>
Rolled 94

>>32714133

When I think of all our plans for future systemic mutations I actually see it more as a generalized upgrade package than specialization.
>>
>>32714198
Perhaps, but there are still potential conflictions to be phased out at least for now (though mama streamlining everything has helped)

Let's take a look at treebark skin. It is indeed, good for masking us in the forest (which apparently has walked away voiding that boon) and giving us better protection.

However, it also makes us rather ugly and would add difficulties in breeding I think.

The proposed speed and stealth mutation would collide with tree-skin, as it doesn't make for very smooth muscle contraction or movement nor does tree bark have the same camouflage potential as perhaps chameleon scales.

Likewise, if we wanted a mutant who is proficient in the water we might want to have a mutant with scales and webbed feet as opposed to tree-bark skin, which isn't hydrodynamic and would be too absorbant to water (in the same manner the trees had wiltered).

For now though, it's only the tree-bark skin really. None of the other mutations seem to collide, and if we can keep it that way I suppose the only pressing issue to really warrant specialization is how much mutation the base population can withstand before bad things happen.
>>
Rolled 21

>>32714305

I don't think we actually have bark skin, I'm pretty sure it's just normal tough/thick skin. We would have to get a lot more utility out of it than we do right now for it to start causing problems with reproduction, I think.
>>
Rolled 86

>>32714346

Anyway, what mutations all do we have in the works right/planned right now?

>Blood
Healing, Toxic, Increased Endurance
>Muscles
Stronger, More Endurance, Faster
>Skin
Tougher, Basic Armor, Chameleonic/Stealth
>Eyes
Various Psi-Powers, enhanced vision
>Other
Central Nervous System upped reaction time/speed, weaponized immune system, extra set of limbs (tentacle or arms [why not both]), natural weapons with poison.
>>
>>32714487
Far, far later on we'll do the 6 arm mutation and hivemind for actual Guanyin's
>>
Rolled 83

>>32714534

I'd like to ask for someone to come up with some pros/cons of the animals we've discovered thus far, but I feel like asking Master Shara would probably be better.

>Acquired strange scaled but slimy beast that lurks in the waterways. They like to lurk near water and attack things that try to get a drink or go 'hunting' when its dark or particularly wet. Have a strange musty yet slimy smell to em.
If we can control them from attacking us or our crops and other animals, they would be an excellent anti-infantry defense for the marshy/watery terrain. Furthermore they would make a great base for aquatic mutant mutations

>Acquired leaping tree climber known as Lungars the only original member from the forest who stuck around must be particularly adaptable.
Their arm strength, dexterity, and general tree climbery would be a must if we are to pursue real Guanyin's one day. They would make a good basis for an improved reflex speed and arm strength mutation as well.

Sadly multiple legs and not multiple arms, but perhaps that can be modified to be multiple arms and further be an aid in the creation of Guanyin. Beyond that also a very good anti-infantry defense, especially at night or in the dark such as in tunnels.
>>
>>32716709
>another one wandered in from basically a giant walking mouth and stomach is about best way to describe em. Like using their legs to grab or run before nomming away. Their massive mouths makes them do serious damage despite their size. One could easily lose an arm or leg to the bastards with just a single snap of their jaws.
These are just plain scary, like, holy crap. I'm sure there are worse things in the wasteland, but still seeing one of these eat your buddies or say a bigger one eat a whole tank crew and all would have to make whoever we're fighting think twice.

*Note: Their stomachs, mouth, and our digestion would make an excellent combination somewhere (tank eating stomach acid)

>Another tendril laden beasts that move as a pack in still water ambushing prey and working together to drag them in. Nasty bastards thanks to teamwork they are a much greater threat then what one would normally assume.
*Exceedingly* useful in conjunction with the rest, draw enemies into the water for the Fish ones to chop em up, or throw em in a pile of the spikey ones, or just play throw them into the giant mouths with our Digestion acid.

Literally pick up zombies or enemies and throw them into giant chomping mouths.

It's a very good thing they are already trained in teamwork, now to train them to work with the others.

Bump.

So we're a bit divided on mutations, but at least we're not out of ideas. Any other action suggestions besides mutate? Although, yeah, now is a good time (maybe the best) since it's one of those rare occasoins we have food, resources, and aren't under attack.
>>
Rolled 15

>>32718392

It's kind of hard to do anything else at the moment, seeing as our general understanding of technology is so shit.

Other possible courses of action would include: exploring the area looking for our sister labs, exploring our base to look for access points to areas we haven't yet discovered, improving our understanding of technology in general (or specific sorts of tech), fortifying our base (not very effective due to our lack of guns/stuff and low tech level), scouting around for other civs to establish diplomatic contact with (or raid), training, and working on some way to boost our fertility.

If anyone wants to continue discussion though we should probably start up a discussion thread. We only have 13 posts left til the bump limit and we have to keep this up until tomorrow afternoon/evening.

It can be done but only if we bump when it's on page 10.

I wonder how Genie makes his players so dedicated that they're willing to scrape and scream for even the slightest bonus.

Oh right, by being evil.

Here's a pastebin of some pros/cons of the creatures we've found thus far, first section is the blurb Genie provided then the notes: http://pastebin.com/YPq6GytE

Even supposing we keep this thread up till tommorow, using thread on the verge of 404 for a whole days worth of work might not be the best idea. Yeah, we will have to make a new thread

Good way to keep this as notes temporarily though.

10 or so posts left.

Might as well critfish for a nat1/nat100 while we bump.
>>
Rolled 58

>>32721688

Then critfish on these (>>32711293 >>32712339) It'll be our third 1 or second 100 (and if we get a 1 here on developing the blood mutation then it'll get double bonus).

Honestly I'd be content spending the last few hours of this thread on active discussion and passive critfishing if we have a sizeable anon population to shoot ideas around with.

I'm here just wanted to save the post we had. Liking the mutation ideas so far.

After blood upgrades thinking bone and/or muscle next.
>>
Rolled 57

>>32723882

Hmm, bones are something we haven't even thought to explore yet. What were you thinking with them?
>>
Rolled 93

>>32723933

Marrow-bearing bone claws (with specialized marrow) could directly inject our lympocytes into opponents bodies.
>>
Rolled 49

>>32723933
I have mixed ideas when it comes to that. We either improve the density or strength of the bones material. But at the same time we will need to improve the muscle's ability to move the new structure otherwise it will collapse and we will be unable to move. With improved blood I'm hoping it can handle moving metals or metal like items thur the cells. Then slowly the body gets use to it and the muscles as well. But unsure is we can do metal bones or plated.
>>
Rolled 2

>>32724143
Another interesting idea I got from a friend is what if we increase the chances of conjoined twins. Mayday increase it to were people get double heads and then we doubled our eye beams. Then from there we can modify to help increase the number of our arms.
