After the recent strange events that occurred in the forest, your group has managed to finally make your way out, continuing along the road to the capital. You get your first glimpses of the large walls from the top of a hill a few miles outside the city. The final stretch of the trip is fortunately uneventful, and you arrive around midday.

You find yourself at one of the main gates of the city, behind a number of other wagons and travelers. It mostly seems to be merchants, which means the line will be traveling rather slowly as the guards inspect and record the goods and cargo entering.
This does mean you have a bit of free time while you wait.

Well, now would be a good opportunity to practice with aura, although you feel like you shouldn't cause a commotion with anything too flashy.

With that decided, you opt to try meditating. Riolu eagerly sits by your side, and you set Froakie down next to you so he can participate as well.

With that, you begin to focus your thoughts and extend your senses outward. You immediatly pick up your traveling companions, as well as the auras of the Ponyta pulling your cart. The next thing that grabs your attention comes from within the walls themselves. You note a rather wide variety of powerful auras, each positioned throughout the town. They likely belong to monsters who are either members of the army or bodyguards for powerful individuals. You focus on them individually for a while, before shifting your focus elsewhere. You attempt to pick out other individuals from the area, but there are so many people and monsters together, it makes picking something out almost as difficult as in the forest.

You decide to turn your attention to Froakie, who seems to be managing to sit still, but otherwise seems to not be getting the meditation you're doing. You briefly consider placing your hands on him like earlier in order to make a connection, although your train of thought is broken when Lisa nudges you. You open your eyes to confirm that your group has arrived at the guard station, and Lady Shabboneau is currently speaking with the guard in order to secure your passage. Due to her status, you're quickly ushered into the city proper.

A large number of tall buildings line the cobbled streets of the capital, with people and carriages headed every direction. You, Lisa, and Lady Shabboneau all disembark first, while Squire Richard takes the wagon towards the stables on the east side, as it would only make getting around the city more difficult.

As your group was in no real hurry to leave the capital, you likely had the rest of the day to yourself. The biggest question was how you wanted to spend it.

"So," you begin, "Would the two of you care to head to the market? There might be something interesting."

"Sounds great!" Lisa smiles, "I never did get around to buying anything nice in Anistar."

"I suppose we'll all be going togehter then," Lady Shabboneau replies plainly.

The three of you then proceed to the central street of Lumiose city. Not only were there a large number of stalls and carts with various wares here, but there are also quite a few prominent shops and stores. Lady Shabboneau informs you that more specialized shops tend to be located on some of the side streets, though most general goods could be found here.

Is there anything in particular you're shopping for?

You begin searching randomly amongst the various stalls and stands. You notice a few that are rather unique, such as one selling the same strange fruits you saw in your hometown. Howver, you decide to continue looking, intent on finding something interesting.

What finally catches your eye is a dilapidated looking stall in a back alley. Heading over, it seems this stall belongs to some sort of craftsman. You notice a variety of colored glass flutes, as well as a number of trinkets and necklaces. What stands out amongst the rest however, is a silver flute with an intricate pattern of golden leaves detailed on.

An old man peers at you over the counter of the stall, eying you up and down before he speaks.

"I see you've noticed that silver flute," he starts, "It's rather nice looking, though it doesn't make any noise if you try and play it. Never could figure out who made it though."

You quickly ask him the prices on his various wares.

You decide to quickly look over the items with your aura vision.

The Colored flutes show up as the following, though it's very faint
Red-heartbreak
Blue-liveliness
Yellow-clarity
White-sweetness
Black-fear

The Metallic Bell gives off a soothing feeling

The Blue Teardrop pendant gives off a similar aura to the ocean and aquatic monsters you've seen, though not a very strong one

The Coin-shaped amulet and Shiny pendant both give of a fairly strong feeling of fortune and luck

The Silver Flute gives you a very strange feeling. It seems peaceful and vibrant, though it also seems to be moving, somehow.

You ask the man if you could try out the silver flute, and he gestures at you to go ahead. You bring it to your lips. You've never played a flute before, but you know enough to attempt a simple tone. It seems as though the old man was telling the truth though, since the instrument produces no sound as you blow it. You look down it and see if there's anything blocking the holes, but there isn't anything there. It's quite strange.

Lisa and Lady Shabboneau also look over the merchandise, though it seems nothing catches their eyes.

After thanking the old man, you head back to the main street. Seeing as how you had made your purchase, you thought it fair that the girls decide where to go next. The two of them eventually decide on a clothing store, one much larger than the one you visited in Anistar. Once more you get stuck with the job of carrying the dresses until they're ready to try on their selections. Rather, you're stuck carrying Lady Shabboneau's dresses, since Lisa tends to keep her pile small enough to carry by herself. Eventually though, you're left once again waiting outside the fitting room.

You decide to take a better look at the mysterious flute. You remove it from your bag, carefully running your hand over it's surface, tracing the golden leaf pattern along it.

The gold seems the have a very polished shine to it, almost like new. The rest of the flute's metal however seems a bit more weathered. The silver isn't tarnished, so it was at least well maintained, but it is odd that the gold has much more luster.

As you continue investigating the surface, you also take a look with aura. As you do, you realize that the peaceful and clear feeling you sensed earlier was coming rather exclusively from the silver, while the more vibrant sensations were caused by the golden leaf pattern.

Before you can investigate any further however, you realize that the two girls have just concluded their shopping and are headed your way. You place the flute back into your bag before standing up to greet them.

By now, it's around early evening. The three of you could try to find a restaurant, or you could stop by another store.

As you walk through a back alley shortcut to your destination, you hear a menacing growl. You unsheathe your weapon as you see three armed men emerge from in front of you, as well as another with two hounds show up from behind.

You waste no time, and before they can even make any demands you're upon them. You bring your glaive across the two in front, slaying one and causing the other to drop his blade. Riolu and Froakie headed for the man in the back, working in perfect sync.

Riolu kicks one of the dogs into the other before leaping up towards the man, dropping his arm downwards on his head. Th man collapses on the ground in a heap, and before the dogs can react, Froakie crashes into them with his Aquatic aura ring. He still hadn't learned how to shoot it, but the ring explodes outward in a burst of energy on impact, knocking out the two hounds.

The two girls stand in shock for a moment, attempting to process what just occurred. You don't waste a moment, quickly knocking down the unarmed man who is still standing, while telling Lisa to go get some guards.

A few minutes later and the thieves being hauled off, along with their dogs.

Thankfully you didn't lose too much time, although you were a fair bit more hungry from your exertion.

Continuing through the city, you arrive at the rear end of a large crowd that seems to be gathered in front of a building. A man with a scroll is standing atop the balcony, overlooking the crowd as he speaks.

It's difficult to hear from where you are, but it seems to be details about the army you saw near the Anistar mines. You do note that the speech is severely toning down the scale of the situation, making the army seem smaller than it was. You slowly edge your way around the crowd, trying to get to the restaurant.

It's late evening by the time you arrive, which fortunately means the dinner rush has calmed down somewhat. Soon enough, you're all seated for your meal.

"So, what do you two think deal with that army we saw was?" you inquire, "I guess the big question is where they were from."

"Well," Lisa answers, "If they were coming from the east, it would make sense if they were from Lurande. That's the westernmost province in that region."

"It's possible," Lady Shabboneau adds, "Although I doubt they'd be so blatant about it. It could be that someone hired Nerrin mercenaries to stage an invasion, shifting our attention to the east. The purpose of such a diversion would largely depend on the country who hired them, as well as their intentions. For example, it could be a ruse by the Valough for a sea based invasion from the north."

"So you think this is a gambit from them?" you question.

"I didn't say that. I was merely putting it out as a possibility. I know enough about history to know that things aren't always what they seem to be."

"Well, how much danger do you think we're in?"

"For now? Not very much. Not only was it a rather small force, mercenaries are notorious for cutting and running at the first sign of danger. If it's just the first wave of a larger invasion however, I'd expect a formal declaration of war to appear soon enough."

The three of you chat a bit more about the possibility of an invasion. The conversation seems to go over Lisa's head, and it's only thanks to your knowledge of geography and logistics that you're able to keep up.

After the conversation winds down, you depart from the restaurant to find it's about time to turn in for the day.

Your group heads to the inn where you agreed to meet up with Squire Richard. After purchasing rooms, you head up to your bed before slowly falling to sleep.

----------------

The next morning, you prepare to depart. The four of you eat breakfast at the inn before picking up the wagon from the stables where you left it. After working your way across town, you prepare to leave by way of the southwestern gate.

Fortunately, your destination isn't very far away, and much of your route is flat grassland and slow rolling hills. You see the occasional monster in the tall grass, but most of them keep their distance from your wagon.

You clear your mind and focus your thoughts. The last time you tried this, you tired yourself out by trying to use your healing ability at a distance. All that succeeded in doing was leaking out of you and wearing you down.

Perhaps a different approach would work better. If you channeled aura as an attack, it might prove easier to project. The only question was how to weaponize it.

You consider the various types of auras you've seen before, comparing them with that types of aura abilities you know. So far the only one that's a perfect match is Froakie's water ring. Healing pulse did remind you somewhat of the feeling of clarity you got from a few places though. Would the opposite of that work?

You briefly try channeling anger in the same way you channel your healing, however you find yourself stopping almost as soon as you begin. It certainly doesn't feel right.

You go back to pondering. Perhaps it wasn't the emotion that was important as much as the intent. Currently you always needed focus when channeling aura, so the opposite of clarity wouldn't work at all. What you needed instead was something opposed to the intent behind your healing. Rather than feeling compassion for the target, you needed to want to harm them.

You hold out your hand and touch the edge of the wagon, channeling your aura while thinking of inflicting harm. Almost immediately, you feel a wracking pain in your hand and you snap out of your focus, letting out a cry of pain.

"Are you alright Ceil?" Lisa says, looking concerned.

"I'll be fine," you reply, "Nothing to worry about."

She nods, and you start your meditation once again. Wanting to inflict harm seemed to almost give you the effect you wanted. The only problem was that rather than an attack you could use, the aura you projected seemed to just harm everything it touched, including yourself. What was it that you were missing?

Then it comes to you. Rather than a simple emotion or intent, you needed a true purpose behind it. When you first started your aura training, you said that your purpose was to help people. Then you learned how to help people in one way.

You focus your energy with a goal in mind. You hop out of the wagon and walk towards a small tree. You close your eyes, not trying to see with aura but just trying to focus. You picture the tree as an enemy. Someone who wishes harm on you and your friends. The image in your mind flickers between those you've fought in the past.

You focus your aura as you blink your eyes open. A faint blue glow envelopes your hand as your fist smashes into the tree. You splinter the wood rather heavily, and you gaze at your hand. You barely even felt the impact of the blow. Your hand doesn't even hurt in the slightest.

You try it a few more times to be certain, and indeed it seems to be the case.

>Ability Learned: Aura Strike I

With that done, you head back to the wagon. Now that you knew how to preform an attack, it was just a matter of projecting it further. Riolu looks up at you expectantly, happily wagging his tail.

You take Riolu aside as you begin practicing with him. He watches as you display the technique a few times, using his aura vision to see precisely what you're using in order to do so.

He picks up on it rather quickly, using the pads of his paws to project the energy. You notice that it seems to be a bit sharper and more focused than yours, although that could just be due to the difference in size.

>Riolu: Ability Learned: Aura Strike I

It would probably be more useful for him in the immediate future. It gives him some reach and other attack options after all.

The two of you practice a bit more before calling it quits. A few hours later you ride over a hill, and you see Camphrier Town in the distance.

As well as a large amount of smoking rising from it.
