You are Shane Morris, a wizard and student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

A few weeks ago you had a stange run in with a secretive older student in the dungeons. Luckily that meeting led you to save Jenny Brown a fellow Ravenclaw when she became lost in the dungeons. Unfortunately you do not remember saving her at all, and it is likely that her memories of the incident are false.

Your other good friend is Alex Foss. A boy who is diligent and intelligent but has a terrible memory.

It is almost Halloween, and as a Muggleborn you are disappointed that Hogwarts has not taken up the muggle tradition of wearing costumes on Halloween. You have been told that instead, classes are canceled for the day and there will be a large feast.

What are you going to do with your spare day?

You spend the day leafing through your book on Occlumency and studying charms. You also finally take the time out to do some work on modifing lumos to shine in different colors.

You start out in the library, but you keep feeling like someone is watching you, and eventually move back to Ravenclaw tower. The tower is colder than usual but you find a comfortable seat and a warm blanket to work under.

>Roll 1d10 to see if you can modifiy Lumos.

We may want to pick up some non-magical fighting skills after this year, during the break. Nobody ever expects to get straight-up punched in the face by a wizard, and if shit like this whole mess with Jenny is gonna be a regular thing, we'll need to know how to defend ourself.
>>
>>32721567
Unfortunately modifying Lumos proves to be a bit much for you.

Lunch rolls around and some of the people in the common room go down to eat. Many stay back, waiting til the feast to stuff themselves.

You could go down to eat now or spend some extra time working on that spell.

You feel anxious, and you ahven't seen Jenny or Alex all day. You feel strangely worried.

Lets look for Alex.

Occlumency seems almost like a dead end at this point,do we need to find a teacher?
>>
You decide to go look for Alex and make sure he is okay.

You decend the Ravenclaw tower, watching the sky darken with clouds. As you walk across the bridge to the Transfigurations courtyard it starts to rain.

You find Jenny and Alex huddled in the corridor of the Transfiguration building.

“Hey guys.” You say jogging over to them.

“Hey.” Alex says. “That was weird, it just started raining out of nowhere.”

“Yeah.” The sky is now pitch black, though it was only slightly overcast a few minutes ago. The rain is getting heavier by the moment. “Lets head back the long way around, it'll be drier.”

The three of you start off through the Transfigurations building. The halls are dark too, and the sound of the rain is deafening even inside. You dash across the covered bridge to the thrid floor corridor.

Back inside the three of you brush the rain off your robes. The sound of the rain is getting louder and is now mixed with the howling of wind. You return to Ravenclaw tower to find it darker and colder than its ever been, and nearly empty as well. The three of you sit on the floor next to the fire to warm up.

You notice Jenny keeps rubbing her arm. “You okay?” You ask.

“My scar has been hurting, I think its the rain.”

“Should you go to Nurse Asclepius?”

“It's not too bad, it's better than it was a few weeks ago.”

The three of you manage to get very little done before dinner, and the three of you are the last to leave the common room.

The air is heavy on the way down to the great hall, and when you enter, the normal loud clamor of the hall has been replaced with the nervous tittering of hushed conversations.

The hall is lavishly decorated with pumpkins and candles, and even live bats, all sailing around above the tables. The hall is bright, but the ceiling which reflects the sky seems to darken the whole room with its blackness.

The three of you sit and start to eat, but you find that you're not very hungry. In fact most of the food seems untouched, everyone is siting, either talking quietly or not at all. Some people just stare blankly ahead, and others spin their head wildly at every noise.People start to file out of the hall before dessert is even served.

Finally dessert arrives and you force yourself to eat a little.

“This is good isn't it?” Alex tries to start some conversation.

“Yes.” Jenny says flatly. Alex sinks back into silence.

Then there is a sound from the door. Like someone whistling. Then it grows louder, and wind begins to fill the hall, flipping napkins and unseating hats. The sound or rushing wind fills the hall as the air blows faster and faster, blowing out candles, spilling drinks and sending plates crashing to the floor.

Then it is silent.
>>
>>32722605
I ... don't fucking know what's going on

But if it gets dark, we can Lumos to light things up.
>>
For a moment the hall is dark, and then the first wand winks on. Then another, you add your own to the mix as well, and suddenly the hall is tinged with the white-blue light of 300 Lumoses. But it is still dark, and nigh on silent. Even the teachers have frozen.

A scream echoes from somewhere far away, and is cut short. Silence fills the air for a second more and then there is screaming. People are running every which way and you are being jostled and pushed as people scramble for the door.

Roll 1d10 to keep from being trampled.

You manage to stay up even with the sea of people surging around you. You start looking for Alex and Jenny and become suddenly aware of how short you are. With the older students around you, all you can see are arms and legs and torsos rushing by. The screams now mix with yells from teachers and prefects trying to keep order, boys starting fights, and people trying not to be trampled.

You catch a glimpse of Jenny through the rush and start moving toward her. You manage to catch her and Alex by the wrists, and the three of you are pulled with the crowd out toward the hall.

You see the door that leads to the boat house wide open and flapping in the wind as people poor out into the rain.

You finally manage to get out of the crowd as it disperses into the halls, and the three of you take a moment to breathe. Jenny looks like her arm is bothering her even more now.

You are still in the entrance hall just outside of the great hall.

You decide to wait in the hall and hope that someone comes along to tell you what to do. The three of you sit against the wall in the corner of the room, next to some suits of armor.

Once you are all sitting you lean over to Jenny.

“Is your arm okay?”

“Yeah.” She says, rubbing at the scar.

“Let me see.”

She puts out her arm and rolls up her sleave. The long blotchy scar which runs from her shoulder down half of her forearm is red and inflamed, like it hasn't been since the burn healed over.

“It started acting up when it started raining.” She says.

“Are you sure you're okay?”

“Yeah.” She rolls up her sleave and gripps her arm, pulling it in close to her side.

The three of you sit in the dark corridor alone for a long time. No one comes back. Eventually you all nod off to sleep, wands still in hand.

>>
The next morning you are woken by the bustle of people around you.

The door leading to the boat house courtyard is still ajar and light is filtering in, relected off the lake. It is bright and the wind is quiet, there is no rain.

Everyone is walking into the great hall, and the three of you stand to follow.

Inside everyone sits, but no breakfast has been served. The headmaster is standing at the front of the room.

Finally as the last straglers return he begins to speak.

“Last night, I failled you as a headmaster.” He begins. “I let you get out of hand and let you overwhelm my command with fear. But more than that I have failed you because as of this morning at least twelve students are still missing, and many more were unaccounted for until they arrived in this hall just now.”

Whispered conversations flit across the hall.

“Classes are on hiatus until the powers that be decide what to do. Until then the dungeons remain closed. All students will sleep in the Great Hall, and no one is allowed in the halls without a teacher to accompany them. Good day.”

The headmaster steps down from the podium and the whispers break into full volume.
>>
>>32723460
Let's see if anyone's got Restful Sleep charms or Pillow charms or Not being cold potions.

We've gotta get that Occlumency book and read it while we've got nothing better to do, and probably read up on our Potions textbooks to see if we have anything that'll help in what will no doubt be a smelly uncomfortable mass-bedroom situation.
>>
“He said that people were still missing.” Alex says to you.

“I wonder who it is?” Jenny asks.

“I'm sure they just slept in the halls like us, or got lost like I...” You trail off. “Anyway I'm sure they're probably fine.”

Jenny looks at you askance. “You never did tell me how you knew where to find me in the dungeons. Some of the girls said you ran off right away when you heard. They said it was some kind of crush or something, but it sounds to me like you knew exactly where you were going. What did you know?”

You explain what happened that day in the dungeon, with Robert and the skull. When you are finished Jenny looks aghast.

“I can't believe you didn't tell someone. Especially after what happened to me. He's obviously dangerous, he probably caused whatever happened last night.” She stands in a huff. “Come with me, we're telling the headmaster this instant.”

You look to Alex for help.

He just looks back at you sullenly. “I... I can understand why you didn't tell me. Cause you didn't trust I wouldn't tell anybody. But, she's right. You should have told someone after she got lost down there.”

You stand up and allow Jenny to pull you up to the staff table. In absence of the headmaster she takes you to Porfessor Ricimer, the deputy headmaster, and the Ravenclaw House Head.

“Professor Ricimer, Shane has something to tell you.”

You stand in front of the teacher and look up at him. You take a breath and explain. By the end you are almost crying, and you definitely feel like the eleven year old you are.

Professor Ricimer looks shocked, and unsure of what to do with you. Professor Morse comes over and after talking to Ricimer for a few seconds leads you from the hall and up to her office.

Professor Morse is your Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, and she is an aging woman with short cropped hair who you have never seen unhappy. Now she looks the closest shes ever been to worried. She lets you calm down before she starts probing you. She has you draw the symbols from the door for her, describe the path you took, and even asks you about what the handle of the door was made out of. With every question you don't have an answer for she deflates even more.

Finally when she seems satisfied she says; “Robert Guivere is one of the students who has disappeared. I see no evidence that he wasn't the one who caused the events of last night. I'm glad that you were able to tell us this.

But her face didn't read 'glad' it read 'too little, too late.'
