You can hear the hounds behind you baying in the distance as you pick up the pace, the forest around you your only visible landmarks as you follow the winding trail. Further back, behind the hounds, you can hear the clatter of hooves as riders track you through the woods. Picking up the pace you turn sharply and begin playing with the stuff of shadow as you move. Ahead you see nothing but trees, but as you turn and come into and out of view of the forest ahead you are able to create a small stream, perhaps to throw your pursuers off of your scent.

Boots splashing through the water you follow the stream for a short while, and after a moment or two you play with shadow again, coming up next to a path set in a thorned hedge just narrow enough for a man to barely squeeze into. Rushing into the gap you continue to press on, considering your next move. As you make your way through the thorned maze you continue to play with shadow, and soon you are following a trail of glowing mushrooms along the walls of a cavern, stooping over in several places. A long howl comes down the tunnel, warning you that your pursuers still have your scent. Reaching a turn you decide to change tactics, and the tunnel opens up to a forest again, this time it is raining.

Stepping out into the storm, you brush a lock of hair from your eyes. People always note certain strong family resemblances. What color was your hair again?

Next time, you might want to put 'Quest' somewhere in the subject field.

And not link to TVTropes

TVTropes is fine. Wiki would be more useful for OP's purposes though.

This Troper detected.

TVtropes is shit. It exemplifies the worst kind of lazy, partitional thinking, all of it expressed through nauseating buzzwords which tropers try to spread far and wide by babbling them everywhere. Tropers are even worse than faggots from this site who use greentext arrows to 'imply' stuff on sites other than 4chan. It deserves every bit of abuse it gets, just like reddit and tumblr - but you probably think those are 'fine' too.

Pushing aside red locks from your eyes you slip out from the cavern and into the rain, you plunge headlong into the forest, winding through it's twists and turns. Shortly you hear your pursuers return to their place behind you, though it seems you have bought yourself some short distance.

Deciding that it is time to escape, you bring a boulder into existence, and slowly the path becomes rockier and more treacherous as you determine what route to take to leave your pursuers behind.

>Escape by air, navigating through shadow that way is tricky

Rain comes down around you, and you hear steps in the distance echo your own as you tramp through the rain and muck. Deciding to minimize your risks you opt to escape through land. On the other side of a boulder you spot a tree, but as you round the boulder you see that the tree has moved off a greater distance away, to the other side of a valley. Chugging along below you is a cargo train, loaded with box cars and with a full head of steam. With a deep breath you start running, and as you near the precipice you take a flying leap over the tracks and onto the train as it picks up speed. Landing on one of the box cars you immediately begin playing with shadow.

Clouds become a thick fog, and through that fog comes a tunnel, and when the train is clear of that tunnel it is twice its current size with a much larger steam engine. Another twist of shadow and you are moving through a mountainous path. Behind you it is still possible to sense your pursuers, but they grow somewhat more distant. You can feel something else though: someone or something is playing with shadow in the area. The touch isn't quite so familiar, but even so it piques your interest.

Climbing down into the train from the top of a box car to the interior of a car you slide into a new shadow, replacing your beaten and weather worn garments with a lovely silk suit. Green and white, as it suits you. Reaching into your pockets you feel what must be the local equivalent of quite a bit of money, whatever they call it here. Also inside your pocket is a ticket and boarding pass, which you knew would be there. Opening up a door of the cart you find yourself inside of a luxurious passenger train, with rows of people sitting at tables enjoying their dinner.

Walking to the nearest open table you take a seat, and reaching into a napkin you do, of course, find a fully loaded pistol of local make. After sliding it clandestinely into the folds of your dinner jacket you call over the waiter.

"Waiter."

"Sir?"

"What would you recommend I start with?"

"We have many fine wines and excellent delicacies for every palette. Perhaps the gentleman would like a bottle of the Merlot with baked Rustil and a side of Truscoulle?"

"Ah, yes, that sounds most agreeable."

With your nod the waiter heads to take your order to the kitchen, and you hope that whatever it is Rustil and Truscoulle are that they turn out to be edible. Turning your attention to shadow around you, after extending your awareness in every direction you cannot feel anyone playing with it any longer, so you suppose that whatever is done up ahead of you or behind you is quite finished. The weight of the gun in your breast pocket is certainly a comfort against your pursuers, though you have no doubt they will utilize similar means against you if they can.

After a short while your waiter returns with your meal. The wine is quite delicious, and Rustil turns out to be some sort of light fish, while Truscoulle seems to be a dish of strongly flavored mushrooms, cheeses, and nuts. Quite good, taken as a whole. After finishing your meal you inquire as to when you expect to be arriving and where you might find the lavatory. You are told that you will be at your destination within the hour and are directed to a gentleman's privy in the next car.

Making your way inside you find a very large public bathroom. As you wash your hands you hear a sudden smashing noise as several of the stalls open up and your pursuers emerge from within. Three of them, men with sharp teeth and grey flesh, emerge and one reaches into its breast pocket. You grit your teeth and contemplate your options.

>Red, like your nearest brothers' and sister's
So, that would be Bleys and Fiona? Intersting, since that bunch of Oberon's kids (along with Brand) learned things from Dworkin; sorcery, trump artistry, and the Pattern. Corwin at least calls Fiona their family's foremost sorcerer.

If we're anything like our full siblings, our proficiencies probably lie that way.

These sound familiar...

Although, it should be added that Bleys is very handy with the sword.

They should have had their guns out before they attacked. Now they're in a cramped space and within the reach of our punches. Attack and disable the one trying to draw his gun, then use him as a shield when taking the other two.

I assume this is before Patternfall War? Because afterward, well, it wouldn't make sense to talk about nine princes, much less ten.

Red... at first I thought that meant we're Benedict's and was like 'fuck yeah, let's just use the scariest foe as an oversized weapon against the rest'. But google tells me his hair is brown.

Judging by how easily we're shaping the shadow, fisticuffs may not be our forte. I would suggest
>fire at the one drawing a weapon while backing through the door. we don't want them surrounding us.

>These sound familiar...
Goddam low men tracking us through the shadow like friggin' sharks on a blood trail. There won't be any escaping them while they're alive, but we don't have to deal with them all in this shadow...
