Welcome back to Golem Quest! Here you take on the form of a stone golem, who just one week ago awoke to find your creator burnt to a crisp and yourself gifted with sentience.

#2: Guard:Tomas (Ongoing)
Tomas: Learn:Magic:Evocation(70%)
Bandit: Research: Tome(??%)

Primary:
Quarry Crew: Gather:Stone (50/hr)
Crafter: Craft:Skirmisher -> Animate:Skirmisher
Titan: Hide:Goravan

Previously, we found that our 'primary' crafting body had a few options it wished to sift through and explore for the future of its golem brethren. The first avenue is the creation of an 'Overlord' class of golem, a form of blank script upon which varying instructions may be written, to free up some of your mental space. The second is continuing the research on the 'Pylon' specialization of golem, where a specialized golem could be created as a form of a mental bond boost to the golems in the immediate area. The third is the idea of altering the nexus' relation to each part of the golem to allow for the replacement of limbs. The final idea is to delve into the lore behind crafting large siege weapons for your golem brethren to operate.

Which do you choose?

This is getting too starcraft for me. We need to settle down and have golem adventures I think.

If we can finish this, we could probably try rolling for our army unit's bonds instead of going with stable awakenings.

I'm just using overlord and pylon because that's how they were coined. Could swap them to 'Foreman' and 'Mana Booster' or something of the like.

Only because this may help us awaken our titan cerebrate.
>>
>>32765604
Could we spend some attention and ask to speak to the lord or whoever he appointed to lead the town defense? I'd like to see what kind of units they'd prefer we build.

Also, I'd like to ask the bandit if he knows what sort of defensive spells the sorceress possesses.
>>
>>32765992
Sure. It won't be that difficult, as #2 is in Goravan too.

But I also see the memetic merit in constructing additional pylons.

You focus your attention on creating the structural golems. Drawing a quick sketch of the mana nexus of a golem, you consult your previous notes on the subject.

By thickening the exterior shell of the golem, as well as providing mutable armor on its limbs, you believe that you can create a golem that is mobile, but when confronted can bunker down, protect itself, and project a a field of mana from its own connection to you into the surrounding area. This boost of mana, theoretically, could temporarily strengthen the bonds within nearby golems.

During the research session, you use #2 to contact the village and ask their lord's opinion on the type of golems that may be effective versus the bandits.

The lord doesn't seem to know much about strategy himself, but theorizes that numbers are more important than size, as a party of men could take down a giant.

Furthermore, as you work you plumb the hedgewizard's mind for strategic information on the bandits. You learn that minus the assault force, he knew that in the bandit company there were at least forty recruits, with fifteen regulars, and the final four were each elite in their own right. The sorceress was one of these, and each of the other three had an aspect that they specialized in. There was a brawny man that stood seven feet in height and wielded a huge greataxe into battle, a cleric of a dark god that served as the company's medic, and finally the leader, who he has never seen in combat.

Of defenses, he only knows of two, the first is an intangible field of force she holds around herself that wards away blows, and a ring she carries that, among the bandit company, was rumored to ward off elemental spells.
>>
Your research comes to a head when you feel that you have completed both the physical and magical designs. The only thing left to do is test them.

What do you do?
>>
Update:
Four hours passed:
Skirmisher:+1 (Total:2)
Stone(Tower): 526
Stone(Quarry): 50
>>
>>32766534
Hmm. So having 4 powerful units would be ideal, it seems. Can't really do much about her defenses except punch harder, so it seems we'll definitely need to assign a titan on the witch. Probably one for axe guy, too.

We should build a pylon as resources become available, and test out how effective it is.

For force composition, I say we build 15 skirmishers afterward, then another titan, then 10 heavy medium fighters to serve as anchor points for the skirmishers to fight around.
>>
>>32766534
Build and test the pylon
>>
>>32766595
Lets try building a special type of titan.(research overlord)
>>
>>32766595
This seems reasonable.
>>
>>32766534
Build a Pylon.
>>
You believe that a Pylon would be 50% more costly than a golem of equal size. Thus a Medium Pylon would be 405 units of stone.

Using both of your available forms to speed up the crafting of the golem, you finish its form in roughly four hours.

The rites take some time, as you are careful not to overload the modified nexus. The rites seem to almost not work as the golem is inert for a moment, but then powers up. You feel its presence ease into your mind along with the rest of the other golems.

Bringing in the two skirmishers, you order the pylon to Bunker Down.

It does so, and immediately you feel not only your connection to the skirmishers increase, but each of your forms each seem to feel slightly heavier, but not so much as to reduce mobility. You feel... denser, almost.

As you tinker with this, you hear through the Titan, Tomas speaking.

"Red, scouts report movement along one of the forest paths. It appears that a huge man, along with thirty followers, are advancing on the town. He will arrive within twelve hours.

What do you do?

>Discovery!: Stone Golem (Pylon): When active, this golem provides a +10 Mental Bond and +1 Armor to golems within fifty feet of it.
>>
>>32767151
Get the bunker, skirmishers and #3 out to the town. Have #1 continue to build skirmishers and stream them to town as they finish. We don't have much time to test the pylon, but if we could get an idea of its are of effect that would be good too.
>>
>>32767211
er, get they pylon, not bunker.

Also tell tomas that our forces are en route.
>>
>>32767151
>>32767211
I'll go with this.

Also, we're lucky our forces are probably than most humans on a one-to-one basis, since we probably won't get enough skirmishers to match their numbers.
>>
>>32767266
I honestly expect that the titan can deal with most of the force on his own after we knock out the axe guy.

Oh, speaking of which, we should probably try and let the titan run free as much as possible. Since giving it commands slows down its awakening.
>>
>>32767266
One basic medium golem could easily handle 5 men by themselves.
>>
>>32767266
they have the Axe guys, so i suggest having the titan sneak up on him.

>>
Upon hearing this, you order your current garrison to move to Goravan, and continue creating skimishers as you do so.

Upon the arrival into the town, how would you like to organize your forces?
>>
>>32767521
As an aside, do we know what effects being light, large and small have on golems?
>>
>>32767622
stealth, have them act like statues or hide underground or on top of roof tops.
>>
>>32767622
Well they already camoflaged the titan, so I'd say have the pylon bunker up in front of whatever building they're going to use as a bastion. Have the skirmishers hide in buildings near the titan so they can burst from cover and attack when we reveal it.

I guess the battle plan is to draw the enemy forces into the titan and have it TANKRED SMASH everything.
>>
>>32767622
As my fellow anons are stating, some kind of ambush near the Titan would be best.
>>
>>32767669
This sounds like a plan. Maybe keep #3 near the pylon so it can support if necessary.
>>
>>32767762
just hide the pylon in a building.
>>
>>32767779
Eh. That seems like a waste. It's a mobile fortification, and these guys aren't bringing siege weapons.
>>
>>32767630

Along with the above I provide circumstance bonuses or penalties based on context. Example being the Titan versus a soldier would give the titan a bonus to its combat roll, or a skirmisher might get a combat penalty if it tried to use a weapon too big for it to wield effectively.
>>
>>32767798
he has a pretty good range, and buffs the golems inside it, but if you want him to fight instead, sure.
>>32767809

>>

Perhaps. There aren't any statues in the rest of the town, it may appear conspicuous.
>>

have them scattered around a bit, then.

You maneuver the golems into positions where they would appear inconspicuous. For the two skirmishers, you place them on each side of the church doors, posing as religious figures.

For the pylon, you maneuver him to hide in one of the allies for now, as a single statue may draw attention.

For the next twelve hours, you wait, and three skirmishers are created and added to the town's defense.

Town Garrison:
1 Titan
1 Pylon
5 Skirmishers

The preparations are set, and you wait for the prey to fall into the trap as the villagers pile into the church to wait it out. A few militiamen have been mustered, but they take the villagers' personal defense upon themselves.

The heavy sound of armored boots on cobblestone grows as a troop of men move into town. These men are better equipped than the rabble you crushed before. They march through the town heedlessly, the man leading towering over the others.

Garbed in only leather armor, the man bears a huge smirk as he surveys the area as his troop occupies the square, oblivious to your ruse.

"Oh, little pig, little pig. Let me come in!" The man laughs. "Or let Wolf blow down your pretty little house."

The last of the man settle into the plaza. Currently you have the Pylon in a nearby alleyway, the Titan covered in a tarp and surrounded by cheap goods and stands to make it appear as an open market, and two skirmishers in front of the cathedral, as well as three skirmishers on nearby rooftops.

What do you do?
>>
>>32768288
So the perfect bond with the titan didn't do anything weird?

Have our forces burst from cover. Their priority target is the guy with the axe, but if they can down another enemy on their way to him, they should do so.

We should let the Titan wait for a few moments after the fight starts before bursting out, I think. It'd allow them to settle with what they have then make them realize their doom.
>>
>>32768288
Hmm. While I'd like to force them near the Titan, I doubt they'd be able to do so with the current numbers advantage.

Though, our two Skirmishers protecting the church could try to do the 'Holy Servant' act, where they pretend that this town's God has animated them to protect it.
>>
>>32768348
The Pylon's ability only activates when it Bunkers Down
>>
>>32768384
Oh, I assumed we would have done that already.
>>
>>32768384
>>32768395
Actually, it might be a good idea to have it bunker down in front of a choke point to cut off the Bandits.
>>
>>32768288
We should order the Mining operation to come in from the flanks and cut off any bandit retreat. They'll still take 4 hours to arrive, though.
>>
>>32768482
I'm perfectly ok with the bandits retreating. I'd actually prefer it.

We need maybe a week to build up a force that would smash these guys into red smears. If we can get them to tuck and run without any significant fighting now, I'd call it a win.
>>
>>32768515
My only problem with it would be allowing them to inform their boss about the nature of the town's defense, ie us.
>>
>>32768515
I think we would have more time and less of a fight if we make sure they don't come back to their allies, they do have a mage.
>>
Writing now.
>>
You order your golems to burst from cover, to overwhelm the bandits!

The titan bursts from cover, sending wood and produce everywhere! Two soldiers are crushed as it emerges from cover and mutates its weapon into a huge greatsword, swinging it at the 'Wolf'!

The Pylon rushes forward from the alleyway, running forward to Bunker Down on the main cobbleway, obstructing the path. Although the enemy can still flee throught the alleyways, it will leave them spread out and weak if they do so.

The skirmishers burst from their positions! Sprinting and leaping from their positions, skirmishers descend on the now disheveled soldiers.

As your first larger scale engagement, you have the option of supporting one group or the other with your personal consciousness. Which will you aid?

>>
>>32769276
How are crits related to that?
>>
I never stated it, but ever since our first combat in Goravan, for combat I have been using a modified Dungeonworld rolling system. Just straight d100 with bonuses and penalties, and I the ranges are as follows:

1-65: Failure (ie take damage)
66-90: Partial Success (take and deal damage)
90-100: Success (deal damage)

Given the circumstance bonuses behind the scenes and the best of three rolls, this allows for a breadth of success without the relying on crits.

Keep in mind this is only for combat, and for now it's only been single combat. I am using a more abstract method for the skirmishers and soldiers at the moment, which I plan on consolidating into a few simple rules soon.
>>
>>32769475
And this means I HAVE been retooling the racial benefits, as enemies no longer roll anything but damage.

The only reason I haven't mentioned this is that it really hasn't come up.

A voice whispers. "...no."

And then. "No."

"NO!"

With a roaring denial, the Titan lurches from your control, letting the blade fall loose as its arms swing up to clasp the greataxe with its leftmost hand. The physical form roaring in fury, the right hand smashes forward insanely fast, catching the Wolf's skull in its grasp.

And then, your mental bond is severed.

Quick question. I also GM a game of Pathfinder (yes, I know it isn't popular on the boards, but I enjoy it). I've been considering recording my current campaign, and before that a history of the campaign from the beginning. It would be posted to a YouTube account, and I was pondering if that sounded like an interesting idea to anyone. I'm sure it's been done before, but I just wanted a few of my Quest players' opinions on the matter.
