You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

“Oh jeez!” Dad jogs around the house. He’s wearing his usual white shirt and black slacks like he usually does, but he’s got a pink apron signaling him as being the master of the house for today. Nancy, Preston, Griselda, and you watch him on the stairs as he runs around. “Oh jeez!” He uses a featherduster to clean and ward cobwebs out. “Oh jeez!”

“Dad,” says Griselda. “Calm down. It’s just Thanksgiving.”

“I know!” says Dad. “But you know how your mother’s side of the family can be.” He leans in, whispering. “There’s quite a few of them. Bless their hearts, but it’s hard to keep track of them all! You know yesterday I found out I had seven nieces?”

“Seven?” says Nancy.

“Seven!” says Dad. “Jeez. I got to tell you guys, and bless their hearts, honestly, but farmers breed like rabbits. And they ain’t going to appreciate some carpetbagger like me unless I keep the house nice and tidy! Can I please get some help?”

Nancy and Preston stand up. “We’ll do that!” They pull out mops and brooms and get to work.

Griselda defaults to playing World of Tanks on her smartphone. “Yeah, you do that.”

You sigh. He’s too busy to make breakfast. What now?

You decide to draft Griselda into helping you make breakfast. Much as she groans, she’s at least curious to see how you cook. Especially since you’re not setting anything on fire. It seems now the Fire Department can finally rest knowing that you’ve learned how to cook. “So, Griselda,” you say as you flip a pancake on the pan. “How about that bet? It did come out as a tie you know.”

Griselda pouts as she cook the sausages. “And I wanted to be the LGA Commander.”

“You can be!” you say. Griselda’s eyes brighten up. “Through hard work!” She becomes downcast as British weather. “Don’t give me that, Griselda. Dad never gave us anything but the roof over our heads and the food on our table, everything you have, you earned that through work.”

Griselda sighs. “I suppose. I hate work.”

“Well, sometimes,” you say. “So do I. But that’s what makes us good people.”

“How?”

“That we work when no one else will.”

Griselda smiles. “That’s real philosophical of you. Being a Student Council Pres must have really changed you.”

“Well, Lincoln did say power tests a person’s character,” you say. “I could order around lots of people but I don’t because that would make me a total assfuck.”

“Maybe you could have mailorder prostitutes!” says Griselda. “God, I’d love to be like you, beautiful, smart, nice.”

You chuckle, ruffling your hair. “You are like me.” Griselda rolls her eyes.

You receive a phonecall.

“Hey, Bernadette, what’s up?”

“Just calling from my hometown in Pennsylvania. How are things on your end?”

“Oh, just great. The entire extended family is coming over to visit. Along with the Foreign Exchange students as well, and Nancy and Preston. God, I cannot tell you how much I’m looking forward to seeing Cousin Darrell and Cousin Derrell try and hit on the poor Japanese girls. They always try that shtick with the cute farmboy stuff, but they keep messing it up by how unenlightened they are.”

“How so?”

“Well, last year. They tried to pick up a pair of girls by saying they were, and I quote, ‘we likes a little miscegenation!’.” Griselda wheezes, trying not to laugh loudly. “Bless their hearts, they’re really nice though, I’m sure you’d love to meet them.”

“They sound like regular hicks.”

“Well, it’s the South. Bear with them. My Cousin Gordon’s a little nicer too. Funny story, he and I haven’t talked much since that one summer?”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, that was actually the summer we found out that we were cousins. The damndest thing! We spent a lot of time together that summer too for the Virginia state fair, then when we found out we were cousins, he’s been slightly awkward ever since.”

“I can only imagine why.”

“Yeah! Kills me thinking about it. Anyway, we’ve got close to thirty or fourty people coming.”

“Sounds like quite the family, Gertrude.”

“Indeed! We’ve even got Kitten’s family coming too, the Smiths. They’re a bit smaller but we’re definitely on good terms with them, at least better than on Game of Thrones or whatever nerds are watching these days. It’ll be a regular hoedown or shindig or whatever!”

“You don’t watch Game of Thrones?”

“No, should I?”

“When you get the time.”

“Of course. You know, Bernadette. You’re free to come if you’d like.”

“I’d love to, but I’m already up in Penn state, and our family already has plans. By the way, we’re very appreciate of the Silver Challenger your Dad gave me. My Dad especially has been nursing a raging semi for it since it came up his driveway.”

“Glad to hear that!”

“Of course, Gertrude. Also, I don’t mean to butt in with business, but Monday, we’ll meet after school and discussing things with the other classes. Get things organized for the Winter season, we’ve got the Pep Rally, we’ve got a Fashion show and the Model UN apparently, and all other stuff too.”

“Righto. Thanks.”

“Take care of yourself, Gertrude. Can’t wait to see you again.”

“Right, bye, Bernadette!”

You hang up. You serve out breakfast on the table for everyone. Dad walks in, his apron messy and ragged. Poor guy.

“Gertrude!” Dad sits down. “I tell you what. I’ve already prepared the Turkey and all the other stuff for when everyone comes! And then-“ He snaps his finger. You both look out the window to see your tank parked in the driveway. “Ah. I just remembered.”

You tilt your head. “Remembered what?”

“The tank,” says Dad. “I don’t know how they’re going to react to you being in Tankery!”

“You mean they don’t know?” you say.

“Well- It’s… I don’t mean to make assumptions but they’re not quite as advanced in the South.”

“Dad, you’re sounding like a real carpetbagger,” you say. “Of course they’d know I was in Tankery.”

“Well.” Dad shrugs. “Just… please. Be modest to them? You know how competitive the Pulaskis get? Especially Cousin Ashley?”

Griselda laughs. “Pfffft. The Helicraft ‘Champion’-“

Dad sighs, placing his hand into palm. “This is what I get for being a good father.”

“And I love you for that.” You lean over and kiss him on the cheek. You start digging into your breakfast. “Where’s Nancy and Preston?”

“I ran Preston over to the Smiths to get the quiche. Catherine was also better at making that than I was.” Dad swallows a bit of sausage. “As for Nancy, she’s upstairs cleaning. The two are quite the go-getters, I’m honestly considering hiring them as houseworkers or something.”

You smile. “Wouldn’t mind having a couple of Nancys to tend to me.”

“Need some help, Nancy?” You poke your head into the TV room to see her vacuuming. The vacuum is about as loud as a tank engine.

Nancy nods. “Sure! Could you help tidy up the couch with the little vacuum over there?” She points to the more man-portable vacuum on an endtable. You pick it up and switch it on.

Jesus Christ, you can’t hear yourself think. WHAT?!

Nancy says something to you. “WHAT!?” you yell.

“Are you ready for the match on Sunday!?” she yells.

“WE HAVE A HATCH ON MONDAY?” YOU YELL. Fuck this, you turn the vacuum off, as does Nancy for her own. “We have a what on whatday?”

Nancy says, “We have a practice match on Sunday with Anzio. Didn’t I tell you?”

“I must have forgot,” you say. “Hopefully everyone’s ready for that, right?”

Nancy smiles. “I’m sure they are! Anzio said they’ll pick out a spot for us and email the battlemap to us in good order! Should be nearby.”

“Right,” you say. “And the day before that, I also have to sing at Navy Yard. I suppose this weekend is turning into the quite the busy one. Figures.”

“Oh, your hard work is being rewarded as we speak, Gertrude!” Nancy starts up her vacuum, as do you.

Goddamn it, now you can’t hear yourself think again.

There’s a knock at the door.

You smile. “Kitten! Good to see you. Preston, I see you’ve got the quiche.”

“I’m drowning in it!” Preston laughs as he walks in. “Mister Pool! I’ve got your quiche!”

“Splendid!” yells Dad from the Kitchen. “Quickly, get it in the kitchen, and we can get started on the rest of the dishes!” Preston smiles at you, nodding, then walks to the Kitchen.

Kitten says, “That Preston, he’s a cool guy.”

You shrug. “He’s pretty much if Nancy were born a guy.”

“I’m pretty much what if I was what!?” yells Nancy from the TV room. And still, the sound of vacuums.

“Nothing, Nancy!” you yell.

Kitten says, “We’ve got time today before dinner. You want to go see a movie or something?” She says, “I hear Crimson Skies the Movie opened a few days ago!” She smirks. “Nathan Fillion as Nathan Zachary! Liam Neeson as Paladin Blake!”

You wipe down one of the many windows of the house along with Nancy. Preston also joins in relatively quickly once everything is squared away in the kitchen. Kitten meanwhile is a goddamned cleaning machine. One minute, she’s vacuuming, another minute she’s mopping or sweeping, and another minute she’s even polishing the rails of the staircase. You can’t fault her for all that, really. You’d want to watch a movie with yourself too.

Nancy says, “So, Gertrude. I assume your family is nice?”

“It’s a big family of diverse people,” you say. “I tell you what, Nancy. Darrell and Derrell are going to be the nicest hicks you’ll ever meet.”

“Really?” asks Nancy. “Are they twins?”

“No, Uncle Daryl is just not that creative.”

You decide to make a quick call to Mr. Mishka.

“Hello, Gertrude. I assume you’re having a nice Thanksgiving? What can I do for you?”

but what I'm saying is we can get the 7.5cm gun for the Stug III cheapen the conversion cost and sell the rest of the guns to be used as more fundings to covert the other tanks to be elite.

We were thinking on using it on the British gun package but we don't have anymore tanks that need the 6 pounder or the 17 pounder.

At least with the German package we can keep one gun to install on the Stug if we can

And I'm thinking we'll get more mileage out of the QF bundle since we can sell all of them. Only 4 guns compared to the QF's 5 and we know we can get at least 22k already from selling 4 of the guns. Sell the 17 pounder along with that and we might break 30k.

“Alright. Once we’re through with Thanksgiving, I’ll get to it as soon as I can.”

“How is Thanksgiving, Mr. Mishka?”

“Splendid! I get to see the family again, even Huxley is interacting with his own kin for once. It’s a good day! Happy Thanksgiving, Gertrude!”

“You too.”

Lunch time has come. You sniff the air, and smell only cleanliness and a bit of orange air freshener. Took some time, but you can safely say that this house is ready for the extended Pool family. You look over to see Kitten, fast asleep on the couch, her face dirty and mucked from all that work.

Nancy quietly leaves the room, giggling at how cute Kitten is.

You sit down next to Kitten. Poor girl tired herself out wanting to spend a little time with you.

Or we will end up with 30K since it rounds up to that and what we pair for.

I think the German one since we can at least use one gun to decrease the amount for one of our tanks and make it more reasonable.

The 7.5mm KwK 40 L/43 is being sold in the shop for 5.5k. I can't see selling it getting back more than that. With that, its likely that selling the 37 L/24 will earn even less than 5k on selling.

I will not expect the final large gun to go beyond 10k at the very most.

Comparing ~30k to ~20k + a discount for an upgrade that is not critical, the 30k will give us more flexibility in upgrading our tanks and give us more mileage.

I can see your point but it also depends on how much of a discount we're getting as well.

since the F/8, is a upgunned Stug III Ausf F, with increased front and rear armor, which should also take account we also gave it applique armor, it should decrease by a considerable ammount
>>
> Let her sleep

You gently ruffle her hair as she sleeps. Might as well let sleeping cats lie for now. You stand up and walk out of the room, to the sound of Dad explaining the Pool family history to Nancy and Preston.

“… and so, the Pulaski brothers came from Poland in the 1830s. However, one wanted to maintain his polish roots and the other wanted to Americanize as soon he could. So, once they got off the boat, Grezegorz Pulaski became Gregory Pool, and Gustaw Pulaski became… Gustaw Pulaski. And the two really separated from there, unfortunately. Gregory started a business as a shoemaker in New York, and Gustaw became a woodcutter in the south.”

“And they’ve been separated for almost two hundred years?”

“Basically, yes,” says Dad. He, Nancy, and Preston are in the kitchen, readying plates and the like for dinner. Lunch is light, to make room for all the turkey that’ll be in your stomach later. “The two families didn’t meet until the State fair the year Gertrude left for LGA. This oughta be the second time we had them together.”

“What was the first time like?” asks Preston.

You smile as you lean on the counter. “Oh, it was fun and chaotic. It was a regular Pool family gathering!”

Dad laughs a bit. “Ha! Sure, sure. Tell you what though, Nancy. The Pool family has always dabbled a bit with the other races. Technically speaking, Gertrude is about a fourth Polish, a fourth Irish, a fourth Chinese, and a fourth German.”

“Really?” says Nancy. “Do you know any Chinese, Gertrude?”

You shake your head. “Miss Lijuan Pool unfortunately didn’t teach me anything, on account of being my great great grandmother.”

“Indeed, we’re a veritable melting pot, this family,” says Dad. “And tell you what, the Thanksgiving last year was quite the treat despite the chaos. Lessons were learned, friends were had, all that stuff. Cousin Ashley Pulaski herself is captain of a Helicraft Team down in South Carolina. Cousin Darrell and Derrell and Uncle Daryl Paddock run a farm in North Carolina as well so I got to learn the finer things of the farming life.”

“How is it?” asks Preston.

“Oh, it’s boring as hell,” says Dad.

There’s a knock at the door. “Ah, speak of the devil. That could actually be any one of our family members. Can’t remember which.”

You open up the door, to reveal the Japanese students. “Hello!” they all say. They’re dressed out in their finest Tankery dress uniforms.

You smile at them. “Nezumi, Assam, Alisa, Izumi. Welcome.” You point to their dresses. “What’s with the get up?”

“These were the most formal outfits we had,” says Nezumi. “After all, Labor Day is one of our most significant holidays! We dare not disgrace it by acting casual about it.”

“… Labor day?” you say.

Alisa says, “The technical term is Labor Thanksgiving Day.”

“Do you not commemorate the labor of others here in America?” asks Izumi.

“We do!” You nod. “On other Holidays. Here, Thanksgiving is just to commemorate an event that happened way in the past involving pilgrims and Native Americans. That sort of stuff.”

“Ooooooh…” They all stare at you, in awe.

“Guys, just come in,” you say. They walk in. “Make yourselves at home. The family should arrive soon.”

“Excellent!” Izumi brings up a bag of oh my god is that thing moving what the fuck is that. “I brought my rice!”

“Um. Clearly. What is it?”

“Rice, with some eels thrown in. I wanted to learn how to make eels properly so I referred to Assam-kun’s colleague, Darjeeling-san.”

You nod. “Really.” You look over at Assam, who is desperately trying not to laugh. This is your doing huh. “Well, thanks, Izumi. I really appreciate it.” You take the bag and holy shit it just tried to bite you okay.

Izumi grins. “Your welcome!” She skips happily over to the TV Room.

Nezumi says, “Real funny joke, Assam.”

Assam silently giggles. “… I didn’t think she would actually do it.”

Alisa says, “I told you we should have just brought cookies.” She crosses her arms. “Figures!”

Nezumi holds up a bag. “Well, I brought bratwurst. Assam brought Gunpowder Tea, and Alisa brought her own cookies.” You take the bag. “As a show of respect for you, Pool-san.”

You nod. “Thank you. Much appreciated.”

You dust off the Tankery Uniform. The Japanese girls minus Izumi and Nezumi all look at you as you step down the stairs. “You are wearing that?” says Assam.

“Well, I’ve got plenty to wear,” says you. “But I figure, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Where’s Izumi and Nezumi?”

Assam says, “Izumi-san-san is exploring your house under the direction of your little sister, Griselda. Nezumi-san well…”

You look into the kitchen to see Nezumi helping Preston, Nancy, and Dad cook the food. Assam says, “She doesn’t like to admit it, but she’s actually very good at cooking. Not quite the same with Senshadou.”

You sigh. “Of course. You figure you guys might try and help each other more?”

“How so?” asks Alisa.

“Well, Alisa,” you say. “I hear great things about you being a Commander if you’d just drop the habit of cheating. Maybe you can teach Nezumi a few things. And Assam-… actually you’re pretty much okay, Assam.”

Assam smiles. “Reminds me of a joke! In heaven, all the lovers are Italian, all the cooks are French, all the mechanics are German, all the police are British, and all the administrators are Swiss!”

You nod. “Yeah, I know the punchline.” There’s a knock at the door. You leave Assam and Alisa to go over and answer it. Wonder who it could be?

You open the door to reveal a huge gaggle of very big men. Ah, the Paddocks. Darrell and Derrell are at the forefront. “Gerty!” they both yell.

You smile. “Darrell! Derrell! Uncle Daryl! Come in! All of you!”

Darrell and Derrell walk in, as home as bedbugs in a tenement building. “Gerty! It’s been ages!” says Darrell. “How have you been?!”

“THAT’S WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR!” yells Darrell. He lifts you up and tosses you up. You laugh as you fly for a few seconds. He always did like to do that. “That’s my favorite cousin!”

Derrell laughs. “Say, where’s our favorite little Kittycat?”

Kitten pokes her head into the hall. “What’s going on-“ She gasps. “Darrell, DERRELL!” She runs over, arms wide, grinning. “OH MY GOD! YOU GUYS!”

“KITTEN!” they both say. Derrell picks her up and spins around. She laughs like a newborn. “Oh, you’re still cute and tiny I could just die!” He puts her down.

“Oh stop, Derrell!” says Kitten. “I’m mature! I grew one centimeter last year in fact!”

The both of them look at her, surprised. “Well butter my biscuit, we didn’t realize,” says Darrell.

“How’s the Cotton farm going you two?” you ask. The rest of the Paddock family make themselves at home, being greeted by Dad, Preston, and Nancy.

“Oh, it’s business as usual,” says Derrell. “Pick some white here, pick some white there. It’s tedious but we get the quality stuff that you can only find south of the Mason-Dixon.” He wags his finger. “Can’t find it nowhere else.”

“Yes sir, nowhere else,” says Darrell. They both turn their eyes to Assam and Nezumi. Nezumi is busy scolding Assam over the eels and rice in the bag. “Well, goodness me, who are those two?”

I think Pool's father works in the federal government (Department of State).

If so, he's on federal government pay scale, which caps out at $157k for the NoVa area.

He should probably be at the cap since Pool's father is supposed to be an old dad.

$157k to support a family of three is fairly comfortable but not rich, especially if he's saving up for the Pool daughters' college tuition.

“WHAT THE FUCK!?” you yell. “What-“

Alisa says, “We tried to get rid of the Eel rice! Nezumi insisted on eating it so it wasn’t wasted!”

Nezumi spits some foam out, coughing. “A-… a… a good commander… sacrifices herself for her crew.” She gives out a gurgle as she twitches a bit more.

Assam says, “Well, Nezumi. You know what they say. Some things in life are bad! They can always make you mad-“

“THAT’S NOT THE TIME FOR THIS!” yells Alisa.

You look over to the bag. Good Christ it’s empty.

Nezumi ate the entire thing.

Kid has stones.

“Is she going to be okay?” you ask.

Assam smiles. “She just needs a visit to the bathroom. I will help her there!” She lifts Nezumi up and starts dragging her out discretely. Leaving you with Alisa.

So we can conclude from the preceeding incedent that dedication and enthusiasm are no substitute for good judgement.

You and Alisa salute Nezumi as she is dragged out of the kitchen. “A lesson for us all. A good Commander puts her crew above herself.” You smile. “So, Alisa. What’s up with you? I noticed you don’t actually talk much.”

Alisa shrugs. “Oh, stuff. It’s weird. You know, attending classes on LGA and finding out a lot from Nancy and your family! America is… it’s strange! It’s loud and bombastic, childish and immature, charming and all other kinds of stuff!”

You nod. “Really?”

“Yeah!” says Alisa. “It’s exactly what Kay tells me of America! And I love it! I wish I could stay here!”

Derrell and Darrell slide in, smiling. “That could be arranged!” they both say.

“Get out of here!” you jokingly say. They both laugh as they leave you. “Anyway, Alisa. Take this to heart. That’s what a good Commander does. Honor is Senshadou after all. Or whatever.”

“I suppose,” says Alisa.

The door opens. You both peek out to see more guests.

“Gordon! Ashley! Ashley, I see you’ve arrived in your Helicraft Uniform!” says Dad. She shakes both their hands. “Looks cute on you!”

Ashley smiles smugly. “You think so? I just needed something nice to wear and this just happened to be in the closet!”

“Yeah, that’s… nice.” Gordon looks away, rubbing the back of his neck. He’s been like that ever since you two found out you were cousins. Strange.

“My, my!” You look over to Cousin Ashley. Her Helicraft Uniform consists of a grey skirt and a black jacket. “If it isn’t little Gertrude! I hear you’re making rounds in the old sport of Tankery.” She crosses her arms. “Got to say, that’s quite retro of you!”

You scoff. “Really. Flying an Apache is more honorable thing than an M4A1E8?”

“The technical term is AH64E Apache. And it can make mincemeat of your tanks any day of the week,” says Ashley. She’s just dripping smug. If she got any smugger, she’d be slain by a Black Arrow. “Of course, you wouldn’t know that, Helicraft is more of a woman’s sport you know?”

You sit between Nezumi and Assam. Around you are Alisa and Izumi. And across from you are Kitten, Griselda, and Cousins Gordon and Ashley. Dad’s a few heads away from you, and he’s surrounded by adults as well. That’s going to be a thing. The turkey is brought in.

You sniff it. Smells like home.

“Right, everyone, let’s say grace.” says Dad. You clasp your hands together in prayer, along with everyone else. The Japanese girls mimick the movement, trying not to look out of place. “Dear Lord. Thank you for the food, bless our souls and bodies with your protection, and let this sustenance give us good life through our years. Amen.”

“Amen!” everyone says.

“Alright! Dig in!” says Dad.

Everyone starts chatting and eating. You manage to get yourself a prime slice of the turkey, along with some mashed potatoes, a bit of quiche, gravy, some beef, broccoli, asparagus, bits of corn, peas, in short it’s enough to feed a man for a week.

Assam defaults to telling jokes to everyone. “You know, you should not write with a broken pencil.” She snaps her finger. “It’s pointless!” Everyone laughs loudly at that. Dad nearly chokes on his food, coughing as he wheezes in amusement. “How do you fix a broken tuba? With a tuba glue!”

Oh god no sides come back please

>>

You shrug. “It’s a fun sport! Daring action, gripping tales of teamwork and coordination! And when the shell hits the target, you can REALLY feel the shell hitting the target.” You wave your fork at her. “Unlike Helicraft where it’s just boom and that’s it. This, this is the real thing.”

Ashley huffs. “Helicraft happens to involve quite a number of calculations. Plus, when you’re shot down, you really get shot down. It can every bit as exciting and dangerous as Tankery can be.”

Nezumi and the other Japanese girls giggle a bit at her expense. “She really thinks Helicopters are better than tanks!” says Alisa.

Ashley says, “Well, they are. You ever fly a Supercobra, an Apache, or even a Eurocopter? Those things book it like birds in a breeze!” She smirks at you. “Tell you what, Gertrude. Come spring, I can take you up in my Apache. Let you fire the rockets at some targets too, it’ll be fun!”

You smirk right back at her. YOU CAN DO SMUG TOO. “And I can let you ride around in my Sherman. How about that?”

Good god this dinner is amazing. You wish you could cook half as well as your Dad does. He laughs at a joke from Mister Smith.

Jesus, those two are going to kill each other when the Iron Bowl comes to town. Your Dad’s an Auburn fan, Kitten’s Dad is an Alabama fan.

“Say, Assam.” Assam looks at you. “How come you transferred? Saint Glorianna’s still in the tournament I reckon.”

“Well, I volunteered!” says Assam. “Darjeeling said she would look for volunteers, I told her no need. I packed my bags and insisted.”

“Really?” you say. “Why’s that?”

Assam says, “Because I happen to think that broadening my horizons is a valuable thing to do in a world like this.” She sips her tea. “And I hear the Americans are quite the melting pot of diverse cultures and the like.”

You nod. “We’re not Annandale High School and The First Lady ain’t going to visit us anytime soon.”

“Well…” Assam shrugs. “LGA happens to be a school I’m just interested in. Especially with your little Cinderella story, sort of like Ooarai’s but in America.”

YEAH AMERICA

Nezumi asks you, “So, what made you pick the Sherman as your Command tank actually?” You look at Nezumi. “I picked the largest tanks because they are the strongest, and in good hands they are invincible! But you pick such a simple medium tank!”

Simple truth. We work with what we got.
>>
>>32809419
>> “It was the first thing we found.”
>> “It grew on me.”

Also practicality a command tank needs to be a all rounder and a lack of a better choice what we originally found was a super heavy tank, a Churchill, a very old model panther, a m3 stuart, and the BT-42.

The Sherman was the best tank to lead from what we had

Blowing up tanks scrapped by Tankery teams with any combination of guns, rockets, and Hellfires, no doubt. I'd assume copter squadrons would consist of light, medium, and attack helicopters. Take for example a hypothetical American team, which would have Cobras, Little Birds, and Apaches filling the Medium, Light, and Heavy attack copter designations respectively--maybe even a couple gunship Hueys if you're an impoverished school that uses outdated hardware. A Russian team, I'd assume, would mostly have Hinds and Havocs.

But as fun as strafing tanks and buildings is, that's boring if it's *all* they're doing. Maybe there's air-to-air sorties, too? But that really comes down to who can fire off their Sidewinders first.

“We dredged poor Cupid out of a lake, back then he was just a vanilla M4. No horizontal volute spring suspension, no 76mm gun, no cast on applique armor, not even the AA .50 Cal. Just a simple Sherman. I probably would have switched to a different tank, but well, it grew on me. Now I can’t imagine using anything else.”

Assam smiles. “That’s quite the story, Pool-san.”

Alisa nods. “Yeah, I wish I still could drive around in my first Sherman!”

Izumi says, “My first tank was just a Type 97 Te-Ke.”

Nezumi smiles. “I can admit, that sounds pretty admirable.”

“Yeah,” says Kitten. “I remember when we dredged it. Ramirez herself dived in to save it, on your word, and we fished it out. Went looking for the other tanks, I went with the Freshmen and we found the BT-42 in the fields.”

Izumi giggles. “BT-42, such a stupid tank.”

You pat your belly. You’re just about full.

You whine a bit as you eat the DELICIOUS PIE. “So, girls. Ever have pie like this?”

Nezumi smiles. “It tastes wonderful!”

Izumi cries a bit. “I can’t take it!”

Alisa says, “It’s so American! I can die happy now!”

Assam says, “It’s good.”

You sigh. “So, girls. Did you tell about how my Loader infiltrated Konigsberg?”

“Really?” says Nezumi. “They’re quite the secretive school. What did you find out?”

“They have a lot of tanks, some in states of disrepair, but they have a lot of competent crews mixed with incompetent freshmen.” You shrug. “Anyway, so Ramirez goes in with Georgia Jones from the Lafayette Runner, she almost gets found out by this girl named Emi Nakasuka or something.”

“Ah, I’ve heard of Nakasuka,” says Nezumi. “She’s a very skilled Commander.”

“Yeah,” you say. “And they also met up with Yukari Akiyama-“

“Ugh…” Alisa shudders. “Is she still doing that?” You nod. “I should have known.”

“Yeah, and then Ramirez got drunk with the Team Commander, Piper Blancbois, they managed to rescue Yukari from capture, and they all lived happily ever after.” You sigh. You feel your belly expand from all the food intake.

You, Kitten, the Japanese girls, and basically everyone under 21 excuse themselves from the table as the adults break out the wine and champagne. You sit down at the couch to watch the football game. Kitten cuddles up with you, almost nodding off. The Japanese girls sit on the floor, trying to decipher what manner of sorcery makes Football a thing.

“YES! RUN IT RUN IT!” yells Darrell. The rest of the boys cheer as the team that you’re apparently rooting for scores a touchdown. “YEAH, GET SOME!”

Izumi whispers to Nezumi. “Do we cheer too?”

“I think we should,” says Alisa.

The four girls clap and applaud the team. You say to them, “Hey girls, was dinner alright?” They all nod. “Good. Listen, don’t trust the scale. It’s evil.” They all look at you strangely. “I’m not joking, it will tear your heart asunder. Don’t give it an inch.”

Assam chuckles. “Ara, ara. Is someone conscious about their weight?”

> Eh, you can just sleep here for the night

Dad shakes everyone’s hand as they all leave. “Gertrude! Are you not going to say goodbye to everyone?” He walks over to you, and finds that you’re dogpiled by sleeping girls. For some reason, the Japanese girls decided that your legs made comfortable pillows and decided that was that and fall asleep. You managed to get yourself into a better position on the couch by lying down, but now everyone and their mother is sleeping on top of you.

“Dad,” you say. “I think I’ll just sleep here for the night.”

“You sure?” asks Dad. “That… doesn’t look very comfortable. And I should know, I’ve been in this situation before.”

You sigh. Nancy’s resting her head on your stomach, still fast asleep. “Yeah, I’m sure.”

“Alright.” Dad smiles at you. “Need anything then?”

“Nah, I’m good.” You yawn a bit. “Night, Dad.”

Dad leans over and kisses you on the cheek, then pats you on the head. “Good night, Gertrude.”

What a Thanksgiving.
