My name is Cecile, and I'm sixteen years old. Though I'd like to think that my upbringing was pretty normal, my parents got a really good job offer last year that would force them to move to the opposite end of the country... and that was the end of my "normal childhood." And after reading that weird book that my best friend Mina had sent to my house, I myself can't even be called "normal" anymore.

Right now I'm at Mina's house, and we just figured out that my powers are related to light... apparently, I told her that the Branch's name is "Over Shine."

I don't remember saying anything of the sort, though.

I guess Mina has a point, it would be kind of bad if I pushed myself to the point of exhaustion while trying to mess around with my Branch. Not to mention that it would be a shame if we spent this entire visit talking about creepy superpower stuff.

Yeah, there's other stuff that we can talk about too.

"Hey Mina?" I call out.
"Hm?" Mina says, idly spinning a keychain flashlight around her finger.
"It's been bugging me for a while now, and I'd like to hear your side of the story."
"What story?"
"The story of why you and Theresa had that falling out."

And then the keychain slips off of Mina's finger and flies across the room. I guess she really wasn't expecting me to ask about that.

"Wh... why are you asking about HER all of a sudden?" Mina asks, suddenly in a really foul mood.

Honesty, best policy.

Does anyone else want to call up Irene and ask what she thinks about Gauthier? Maybe tell her we know what our power is and it doesn't seem dangerous and no, she may not know what it is.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuh I just realized that it's possible that emotional state might affect her power as the seed gets planted. Making her angry could give her a SHIT RUN power.

On the other hand, Arch probably has all the potential powers decided already. Please be that.

For all the shit we're going through and what she researched, she's probably too scared to get planted. She managed to be within 20 ft. of a very expensive (and powerful) book she got from the internet for an entire night and successfully refrained from reading it. She's better off joining the Green Lantern Corps. than getting planted with a seed.

time to shed some LIGHT on the subject.
>>
Wait a minute, shouldn't we give Theresa and Mina Irene's number? There's still the chance that shit could go down with their powers, and I'm pretty sure her invitation to call her if things get out of control (and there's almost no way one of them isn't going to get a shit roll on their power to force us into making Hard Decisions) applies to them too.
>>
>>32832704
The problem is we don't know if she's one of the bad guys yet.
>>
>>32832721
You're right. We don't. We DO know that hearing voices or burning down your house or whatever are bad news.

I'm saying Irene might need to put down our friends like rabid dogs and we might need to sit back and let her.
>>
"I'm just tired of avoiding the subject," I say. "Things between you two have been weird for what, a year now?'
"Yeah," Mina mumbles, "but it's not like it's my-"
"I don't care," I say, rolling my eyes. "We're in this together now and I'm sick of having to tiptoe around it."

Crossing my arms, I stare Mina down.

"Wilhelmina. Spill it."
"Ugh..." Mina walks over to her bed and sits down. "It was personal stuff, okay? Why does it even matter, it doesn't involve you..."
"Yeah, it kind of does," I reply. "My two best friends got in a huge fight and as a result, one of them ended up avoiding ME for a year. Now quit stalling."
"Aaaaaaagh..." Mina flops over on her bed. "You want to know what happened? Fine."

Still lying on her bed, Mina takes a deep breath and closes her eyes.

"It was after Theresa joined the track team... you remember how she pretty much ditched us, right? Going to the movies, hanging out at your house... she quit doing all that stuff with us in favor of them."
"Yeah, I remember that," I reply.
"Well I waited for her after practice one day and asked her straight-out why she was acting like that. I mean, it's not like I wanted to monopolize all of her attention or anything..." she says, resting her forearm over her eyes. "So I asked her to come clean, you know?"

This pretty much matches up with what Theresa told me yesterday.

"So I said all of this, and reminded her that we had tickets to a concert later that week... and she FLIPPED OUT on me," Mina says. "Said a bunch of hurtful shit and I just couldn't take it, so yeah, I'm done with her."

Someone actually brought up a good point last thread

Becoming cyclops is the simple application of our powers. Just taking light and moving it somewhere.

But light manipulation. There's a lot of crazy things you can do with that.

At the very end of last thread someone suggested bending light around us, making active camo like Grey Fox.

If we get good enough with changing light, we could start manipulating quantum states. Crazy things await once we reach that point. Things like becoming one with light itself.

Pic unrelated, it just puts a smile on my face.

And then I pull her into a tight hug since I know talking about this kind of stuff must really hurt.

My hug acts like a trigger for her to let out all the stress and frustration from holding it in for a year put on her, and she spends the next ten minutes or so sobbing.

Nope, we shouldn't be looking at it in terms of cubes.

Light is really fast, as we all know, it's better to think of it as a flow of power from the sun. And the amount of energy impacting the 10 square meter plane per second is going to be approximately the same as the amount that flows through a cube with faces of 10 square meters.

We might be able to draw incoming light into a tight loop, build it up for a couple seconds, and then laser the fuck out of something.

I think this is going to be how most of our powers are. Grabbing huge swaths of light and concentrating it.

..but with a little creativity we could be an absolute terror to fight. Making patches of complete darkness at will. Igniting portions of air to deny oxygen. All while invisible.
>>
>>32834526
"maybe if you were blonde."
>>
>>32834661
She described it as feeling like taking a math test, so our main attribute is int, so we just need to practice. IRL mana is mental focus.

>>

>ignite patches of air to deny oxygen
Oxygen isn't important when the air is too hot to breath. And that's not how air works, it doesn't just burn.

I would assume that would be limited by sunlight.

Actually I wonder how powerful moonlight would be. It's not as much as sunlight, but it's still nothing to scoff at.

So, you're suggesting focusing light into a narrow beam AND storing it in a loop?

That seems valid and powerful!

Brightness of sun: -26.7 magnitude.
Brightness of moon: -12.7 magnitude
Difference in brightness: 400,000 times.

So. If you need 2 square meters of earth's surface to make a Sun-laser, you'll need 800,000 square meters of earth's surface to make a Moon-laser.

Sunlight is powerful enough to bounce off FUCKING SATURN and still be visible.
Moonlight, having already bounced once, is a shit.

Uh, I think that falls well outside the purview of "light manipulation" and into the realm of "fucking crazy holy shit fuck physics magic".

Lets stick with things we know science can do, like lasers and opticamo and making ourselves fabulous on command, before we start trying to convert our body into light and live inside reflective surfaces.
>>
>>32835046
>Light Manifestation: Hanged Man is actually a stand that attacks via reflections. Rather than attacking a person directly, it will appear in a reflective surface and attack their reflection. The person will then bear the results of the attack, seemingly from an invisible assailant. Hanged Man can move through any type of reflecting surface, including human eyes, at the speed of light. Its weakness is that it can only move between reflective surfaces in a linear pattern and is forced to move to the one in front of it if its current location is covered, leaving it vulnerable.

Yes, but her pisspoor detection range is what's relevant here. How is she possibly useful for searching for the books? The logical way to find them is to notice a Sprout and follow them back to the book, and she's terrible at that.

Great, now I feel stupid.

"What's wrong?" I ask.
"Apparently my stupid gorilla brother ate up everything that was left," she grumbles. "Look for yourself."

Mina steps aside so that I can get a better look, and yeah her fridge is pretty much devoid of anything that I'd consider worth eating. But maybe...

And then he freezes in place.

"...CC's here to talk about 'girl stuff' and you're calling me out in the middle of a game... you're not pregnant or anything, are you?"
"What!?" Mina grimaces. "Hell no I'm not pregnant!"
"Th- then are you, CC?" he points to me.
"No I am not pregnant," I say, rolling my eyes.
"Oh thank God," he breathes a sigh of relief.

Why does he always have to be so overdramatic?

"So what -did- you want?" Marcus asks.
"I just wanted to tell you that we're going out to get something to eat," Mina replies. "So you don't go to check on me and freak out about us getting kidnapped or something."

With Mina waving goodbye to Marcus as obnoxiously as she possibly can all the while, we make our way to the front door and out of the house.

"So where to?" Mina asks, turning to me as walk down the sidewalk.
"McDonald's," I reply. "The one by the park's the closest place nearby."
"You're the one paying," she shrugs.

And so, we start on our trek to the Land of the Golden Arches. The quickest path there cuts through the park, so that's what we do...

"Aw crap, what do we do?" Mina grabs onto my hand and holds it tight.
"You go over there and hide," I say, pointing to some nearby bushes. "I'll go and see who it is."
"What!?" she squeezes my hand even tighter. "No, I can't just run away by myself! What if it's a government agent come to snatch you up?"
"They already know that -I'm- here," I say. That's how Synapse works... I think. But you're a normal person so they shouldn't have any clue that you're here with me."
"But-"
"Go!" I whisper-shout, shaking free of her grip on my hand and pushing her towards the bushes.

I really hope that it's Charlotte who I just sensed... or Irene. Or Theresa. It doesn't really matter, as long as it's one of those three.

Walking a little ways away from where I told Mina to hide, I try my best to stay calm and try not to act too visibly paranoid. Just be cool, Cecile. Whoever I just sensed will show themselves soon and then I can tell Mina to come on out of her hideyhole and everything'll be

"Don't move," an unfamiliar voice calls out from a little ways behind me. It's... a guy?

"Wh... who are you?" I ask, my voice wavering because I'm doing my best to hide how horrified I am right now.
"That's what -I- want to know," the man replies. "It was you, wasn't it? The one who has the book."
"Wh... what book?" I ask, hoping that he'll leave me alone if I pretend not to know what he's talking about.
"The Book of the Gardener," he replies. "The book that plants the Seed of the Tree of Knowledge, the one that caused you to trigger a Synapse. Now quit playing dumb!"
"I don't even know-"
"I -said-, quit playing dumb."

The triangles float closer to my neck and several more pop up out of nowhere... and then a guy with glasses walks into view.

"My Branch is called 'Ornamental Tangram,'" he says. "It makes these wonderfully sharp implements that are currently hovering around your neck. I'm only telling you this so that you know that there's no point in trying to run. Now answer my questions truthfully or I'll end your life right here and now."

Sharp... they look so freaking sharp. They're all around my neck, and now there are a couple pointed at my heart too...

"What's your name, what's your branch, where's the book, and did you let anyone else read it. Now hurry up and answer," the man says.

This.

This right here is exactly what I was scared of when Mina and Theresa and Charlotte started going on about dangerous people. And now I'm standing here with a bunch of green triangles pointed at my throat and some jerk interrogating me and I'm trying not to break down crying because MIna's probably watching-

Oh God, Mina's watching all of this. Please don't let her see me get murdered... and please don't let her get caught and murdered too...

"M... my name is C-" I stammer, "...my name is CC, and I don't have this book that you're talking about."

Keep calm. Try not to do anything to provoke him. C'mon, you can do this.

"Bullshit," he says, glaring at me. "If you don't have the book, explain to me just how it is that you triggered a Synapse?"
"R... really, I don't know anything about any books!" I shout. "I just woke up one day and my eyes changed color and I can see in the dark! Wh-why would I lie to you and risk you killing me!"
"Tch..." he clicks his teeth. "What organization are you with?"
"Wha?"

"You triggered a Synapse without eye contact, which means that our encounter isn't your first time," the man says. "That means that you encountered someone else with a Branch. Now you're going to tell me who exactly it is that you're working for and any other organizations that are active in this town."
"I... I'm not in any organization!" I shout.

I can feel tears streaming down my face... Oh god, he's probably gonna kill me if he decides that I'm useless. I wish Charlotte was here, she said that she used to be a bodyguard so I'm sure that she-

That's it! Charlotte put my number in her phone!

"Your crocodile tears aren't going to work," the man says. "I know your kind."
"I swear, I'm not with any organizations or anything like that!" I say as my voice breaks down into sobbing. "I was here at the park yesterday and someone saved me from a stray dog!"

Contacts... Allison, the bank... her name should be right here!

"Is that so?" he smirks. "and you expect me to-"

Suddenly, the triangles push closer and closer towards my neck. It's all I can do to keep perfectly rigid, they're actually pushing into the skin.

"Stupid little bitch, you thought that I wouldn't notice?"

Out of the corner of my eye, I can see a bunch of smaller triangles swarming together and... did they just turn into a hand? It grabs me by the forearm and forces my hand out of my pocket

and my phone

>[2/?]

"N- no," I stammer. "I was-"
"Charlotte?" he says. "Too bad, it didn't actually dial."

Oh no...

"So this Charlotte is who you're working with?" he asks. "If you thought that she would be any help against me, then she have quite the bra-"

Out of nowhere, a rock shoots through the air and hits him right in the face. As he staggers back in pain, all the triangles that had me pinned break formation and zoom in the direction that the rock was thrown.

The bush that Mina was hiding in.

"NO!"

...and disintegrate?

I stop dead in my tracks, unsure what just happened. The bush is still intact and the triangles are gone and that man

THAT MAN

He was threatening my life. And then he tried to kill Mina.

I dart my head back to my would-be attacker, and he's holding a bloodied nose while hyperventilating... I see a few of those triangles formed around him too, though they're just kind of randomly floating around him.

Not sure how much good she's going to do against Swarms-Of-Fluorescent-Green-Razor-Doritos Man. As far as we know, the most she's going to be able to do to help is nibble on the guy.

That said, running and leaving behind evidence of both our and Charlotte's involvement with a random magical interrogator isn't exactly a great game plan.

Babble out that some guy tried to kill us, what he said his Branch's name was, and see if she recognizes what it's capable of and/or if she thinks we should try and keep him from having all of our friends' contact information or if we should just run for it.

We have better ranged magic... Speaking of which, when this is over, I REALLY want to know how Mina is breaking these attacks.
>>
>>32837189
You should really fix that, Symphogear is great.

Oh thank God, someone who can help!

"You look really shaken up," Irene says, "what's going on?"
"Th- there's a guy back there!" I stammer. "He started going on about Branches and that book and he tried to kill me!"

Irene's expression goes stone cold.

"He didn't hurt you, did he?" Irene asks.
"No, I'm fine," I reply. "He wasn't able to get you either, was he?" I turn to Mina.
"N... no," Mina shakes her head.
"Good," Irene nods. "You didn't happen to her what his Branch name was, by any chance?"
"Yeah," I nod. "Ornamental Tangram."
"...what?" she stares at me in disbelief. "A... are you sure?"
"Yes she's sure!" Mina screams. "That piece of shit started making magic green triangles and almost impaled me with them! We're Lucky that Cecile was able to hurt him long enough for us to get away!"

Then she points at him... he's not too far away from us, actually.

"Archibald!?" Irene gasps.
"IREEEEEEENE!!!" he screams. "GET THEM FOR ME, IRENE! LOOK WHAT THAT LITTLE BITCH DID TO MEE!"

.........she's working with him.

I shall end the thread here.
I had intended to do so back when Archibald first showed up, but then I ignored my better judgment and kept going...
I was not expecting you guys to pick [REMOVE]
Anyways, it was fun. The next thread wil be Tuesday night, most likely Princess Guard but that's not completely set in stone yet.

REMOVE was the mystery option that has been popping up time and again in the threads, I don't see how majority would NOT pick that option just to see what it is about. Although I voted the other way, I guessed the moment I saw the option that it would win.

She is straight but during the time the quest is active she has an uncontrollable desire to hit on girls almost like somebody else is controlling her body.
>>
>>32837561

From what I've seen I get the feeling her sexuality is being left to us. I'm guessing that sex wasn't a big part of her life until now one way or another.

>>

>>

Well, anons have been quite restrained so far really. More time spent match-making than anything happening in Cecile's romantic life!
>>
>>32837579
In a thread with a bunch of heterosexual men intending to roleplay as a teenage lesbian magical girl.

>>

Best outcome is either calling out for Irene at the beginning or trying to pocket dial her instead of Charlotte.
Worst outcome is trying to laser Archibald without even knowing how to in the first place, while also having a bunch of knives pointed t your throat. That would be a Dead End.
[REMOVE] was not optimal, but also not a fuck up.

>>32837506
>Do we even praise the sun?
Filthy casuals like Cecile know nothing of such things.

And now I sleep.

I can't wait for the perpetual state of confusion Cecile will exist in once Mina and Therese get accustomed enough to the whole magic thing to start busting out the references.
>>
>>32837729
>"That Doritos guy almost had you Cecile, I though you were going to get Mami'd!"

Mina should try to get CC to watch Madoka now, using the excuse that it's directly relevant to being a Magical Girl.

She can even use the "c'mon, just give it three episodes!" line. I want CC's reaction to episode 3.
>>
I suppose jolly co-operation is not in the cards with Archibald after this...
>>
>>32838077
Grudging cooperation might be! I mean, we did have a good reason for blasting him.

We'll have to explain who Charlotte is though.
>>
>>32838077
To show I'm sorry, you can cut up my arm! Then we'll be even!

I bet Irene is the good girl who found herself stuck in a bad organization and doesn't realize it's bad.
>>
>>32838112

Just remember, we were told a couple of threads ago that we've already met all the people that might be our allies. Based on that I'd say our chances are pretty slim on getting this guy on our side in any form.
>>
>>32838146
I don't remember the phrasing, but he might have meant groups or organizations there. That would lump him in with Irene.
>>
>>32838146
Great, so now we have to make a blind choice on who to trust:
Charismatic goth loli who works for a shady businessman;
or athletic tomboy who associates with an overly aggressive brute, and has told us nothing about who she works for.

Neither seem to be inherently bad, so I think it's more of a case of grey vs grey, who we like more, sort of thing.

Or we can just say fuck 'em and run off on our own, but that's probably the choice most likely to result in our and our friends untimely deaths.
>>
>>32838621

I don't think we have to make our choice quite yet, unless Irene decides to attack us of course. After all, all things considered, I think it would be completely understandable that we wouldn't want a hot head like her partner to know how to find someone that's been nice to us. If Irene decides to push the issue with her friend, then I'd say she isn't the kind of person we want to team up with. See? Simple.
>>
>>32838709
Good point, bring it up next thread, since this one is about to fall off the board.
>>
>>32838621
We can use the attack against us a leverage against Irene.
Use it to get more information out of her.
We could also ask for more information fro Charlotte due to the attack.
>>
This went surprisingly well. Did you roll dice for Mina's kickass rock throw? Girl has some seriously lucky aim.

I like that we're definitely going to have someone suspicious as fuck on our case now. We kinda deserve it, with two incredibly paranoid people who are too stupid to properly hide the books on our side.

And people shouldn't even be considering making a choice with the info we have now. Ask these guys about Gauthier and WHY SHOULD WE TRUST THE GUYS WHO THREATENED TO KILL US. Maybe they'll spill on who some of the supposedly worse organizations are. Then talk to Charlotte about it.
>>
>>32839542
I think torching the books is for the best, really.
>>
>>32839576
I agree, but we need to make sure they won't infect us with magic AIDs first. Asking both groups whether it's safe to burn them should answer that question.

Mina is probably having serious doubts on whether she wants to sign up. I think we should push her not to. We'd be in deep shit if Irene and company found her with a Seed now.
