Does /tg/ browse any freeform rp forums like this?
>>32874954Ah, edwardo, yours is a classic tale.To your question: I've only tried it once. And they were a lot like the people in the story: grim dark edgelords.
>>32875006Could be fun to make a concerted tactical drop on one with several noblebright characters just to fuck with the edgelords. Then again, maybe not.
>>32875006I read this and was intrigued. Do you know where I might find a place like this. Who knows, if my story is note worthy I might tell my tale.
>>32875414That sounds like it might be interesting nonetheless.
>>32874954Has anyone ever considered starting a forum like this? Not an anything-goes freeform shitfest, but something with actual rules to it?
>>32875453/tg/ used to do shit like that, back when there werestill a fair number of /i/nsurgents around.Except back then we were all dorfs, and id dorf-shit.
When i was younger. It was a combination of edgelords and autismos, i eventually just stopped RPing and hung out in the chat with some bros.Eventually became a mod without ever really developing a character beyond the initial stages, like people who started out the same time i did ended up with max power characters (you had to train, get your training reviewed and approved to level up) while i was sitting with basic mid tier shit.I did have fun denying peoples training / 'techniques' for shits and gigs telling them to resubmit it only to keep denying them.As well as taking control of characters from the lore and fucking with them / flat out killing them if they did broke the rules of the setting (which every edgy faggot did to prove how badass they were.)Sometimes i really miss that place but eventually the people i liked moved on, the autismos became oldfags and got into power. The shitty mods i hated deleted half the board and fucked off because GF drama (who was also a mod).I really do miss some of the people i met though.Byafan, Barry, Matty and Gin i miss you.Bear and Ami are faggots
>>32876555We could probably do that if enough people got interested. What do you all think?
When the ballad of edgardo was posted, a few of us tried to create a forum game. I blame the utter lack of a recruitment drive for its downfall.Im still down for it, if we can get some decent numbers.
>Be playing a wizard>A while back I got a gem that let me store magic to recharge my mana pool>Doesn't really seem to have a limit, but this was a low-magic setting and I'm one of the few spellcasters on the planet. I'm only here because of planeshift fuckery. >Later, find out that loads of people have magical potential, just nobody knew how to tap into it>Train an entire town to be wizards>Now, the setting had a BBEG who captured dragons and enslaved them, scraping off pieces of them to fuel his alchemical abomonations, the most notable of which being "dragon-men," notable in that it was pretty much the only regular enemy anyone in the setting saw and made up 99% of his invading force>Find out where the lab is because I'm a wizard and I can do that>I have a gem that stores magical energy>I have a town full of wizards>The obvious happensAnimated for your viewing pleasurehttp://www.swfcabin.com/open/1403187817
>>32877510I never even heard about a forum, so yeah, there should probably BE a recruitment drive of some sort.We could discuss the idea here, so it gets some attention from /tg/ maybe?
>32877600By all means discuss! I may even view the dust off the skillset I was working on before the forum was abandoned. The only reason I managed to know about the forum was due to being one of the guys discussing it on the original post. Only problem was the recruitment drive - two times it was tried one week, then it stopped. Maybe try brainstorming it first before getting a forum done up?Anyway, sleep beckons, so keep some form of discussion alive.
>>32877600I would be interested in a /tg/ run rules light rp board.I've tried free forming again, recently (I had tried it when I was young (eons ago)) and found that there has even been a backlash against edgelords and godmodding in the freeform communities (at least the ones I tried frequenting). Instead there is now a clusterfuck of special snowflake rps that pretty much require you a short story to be considered for entry. The ones that don't have these requirements are mostly refugee camps for edgelords.. I have stories.. but I am bad at telling stories. It would be nice to have fa/tg/uys run a board, since it would be more likely that edgelords and special snowflakes wouldn't be as tolerated. Although a metahumor edgelord rp could be amusing (in the short term).
>>32877735>edgelord refugee campFund it. If we do that I want, in universe, a refugee camp/small nation where all the edgelords go because nobody can stand them.
>>32877794Alcatraz was moved to the middle of the Pacific, it is now an independent nation of edgelords the waters around it regularly patrolled by an international task force to prevent escapees.
>>32877794That would be rather hilarious wouldn't it?But yeah, I am all for a better moderated rp board. Not that I wont expect shinanigans to happen now and again, because people are people, but it would be nice to have a place to rp with people with similar ideas of what constitutes good rp (Pretty much all the freeform rpers I have met have never played a pnp rpg).
>>32877794Wouldn't each Edgelord need their own zone eventually? Since they might grow tired of each other.
>>32877882Best current large mostly freeform game I can think of is Mizahar if that's your sort of thing.
>>32877888I think they'll be fine as long as the tavern has enough dark corners for everyone.
>>32877092I'd be game
>>32877888>Edgelords, Shanksharks, Weeping Demons, etc. are gang names in the Alcatraz containment nation.>They war endlessly over territory and who has the most dark backstory
>>32877900I think I will have to look into it.>>32877904Each room will have over 4 corners..
>>32877927That would make an amusing setting for a short campaign (1-3 adventures).
>>32877904So taverns built like d20s?
>>32877980If we want to continue with the parody theme, then I don't see why not.
>>32877092I think we could. But freeform roleplay forum have the bad habit to die because keeping people interested into a collective storyline (that demands that everyone do their part) is hard.
>>32878021Indeed, and with interests as diverse as /tg/s we'd have to either give it tons of room for everything (GURPS standard settling style), or we'd have to pander to one of the larger crowds on /tg/ (perhaps a forum for each popular setting)
>>32877927>The Lone Wolves and Lone Rangers have a long standing grudge>The Bleeding Edge are the most technically capable group>Shanksharks have nominal control of the dock yard>Weeping Demons have an initiation ritual in which they hang recruits on the side of the buildings like gargoyles>Edgelords have their territory entrenched around the old warden's office.
>>32878069We could probably do one big forum with subforums for each setting.
>>32878126That was what I was thinking was the best option; the biggest issue with the option would be if non of the forums have quite enough population to sustain themselves. I don't think that'd be too big of an issue with Warhammer 40k, since it seems to be one of the most popular settings on the board. Its worth a try though. A GURPS like setting would be a clusterfuck that would die almost right away if not done right.
>>32878162Alternatively, we could use FATE Core or BESM for the general open world setting.
>>32878193>not using Dungeons the Dragoning
>>32878209Oh dear god, I forgot about that beauty. I need to be shot.
>>32878126Or we could have one forum for one setting.
>>32878209>>32878223The funny thing is that it's infinitely more playable than some of the games out there.
>>32878193I hadn't meant using GURPS as a system, I meant to use their default setting (with its inter dimensional travel) as an example of why a setting that is too open wouldn't have any direction on a large scale. That being said, I am not opposed to a somewhat generalized setting, but I think it should stick to a genre or two.
>>32878277Ah, I see. Yeah, as far as I know, FATE Core has no generalized setting, and BESM's general setting is iffy.
>>32878277If you had GURPS, and choose a world from a dimension as a center point (the only way to keep things organized with such a large scale), you'd run the danger of having stuff like a group of players starting a 40K expansionist empire. I see that, and other similar things, as potentially problematic (although I guess it could be fun). If we did generic fantasy, or generic space opera, or generic something we open things up to lots of ideas (without having as much of a clusterfuck). However, if the world isn't fleshed out much, I don't see it gaining much interest.Anyone disagree?Anyone have any specific ideas?>>32878316GURPS setting is optional, the reason I wouldn't recommend using the system is that it might be a bit of overkill for an online board. I am not familiar enough with FATE to say if it would be a good system to use, nor BESM. Any thoughts on SAVAGE WORLDS?That being said, we should probably pick the system based off of the setting, or design it based off of the setting, because there'd be little point if we have a system and no setting.
>>32878316Is BESM a pun on BDSM?
>>32878364Or we could go with the multiple subforum approach. If we do that we could start with 2-3 subforms and move from there based off of demand.
>>32878396Big Eyes, Small Mouth.More a joke on animu.
>>32878364We could always leave all the mechanics to a computer and set up a Neverwinter Nights server that would only be open for games. Or 24/7 but that breeds a lot of thatguyeryPros: Pretty rad roleplayingCons: It's 3.0
>>32875414Would be cool to have like 40 people show up with half playing lunatic wizards and half playing dorfs
>>32878396>>32878406Basically what this guy said. Tri-Stat system for playing animu tabletop.
>>32878410We could, but don't many of those already exist? If we are going to do that we need a gimick besides DESIGNED BY AND RUN BY FA/TG/UYS. With that we could run fantasy, and that is it (unless heavily modded).
>>32878447That is unfortunately true. That being said, what about making a /tg/ MUD? Never played one, would that work?
>>32878493It would require us to get shit done even more than a forum, that being said I'd be down with working on it (but I wont have time to do so for several weeks). We would need to create a dev team.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MUDIf we pulled it off, it would be rather sweet.
>>32878493If we could find a preexisting MUD then we could probably get shit done faster, but without that its going to take a few months.
>>32878364>Anyone have any specific ideas?Well, the first thing to define is: what kind of setting do we want? Parody Fantasy? SF a la Star Trek? Noblebright 40k? Another adventure in an established setting?Otherwise, there was this thread a while back about spies in a arabian night/ moorish spain fantasy setting that could be interesting
>>32877935Nah, they just stick a couple of portals to pocket universes in there. Much easier than building an octahedral room.
>>32878605Didn't read enough of article. It appears they have a list of Mud Clients. I'll check to see what is available for free.
>>32878493I am liking MUSHclient the best so far. It runs best in windows, but works with any windows emulator. It seems to have the most functionality
>>32874954I used to do a lot of freeform stuff on the Elder Scrolls boards. People there were generally able to keep edgelord faggotry to a minimum. One of the better roleplayers built a personal forum where she invited most of the better roleplayers. Had a few good games there but interest eventually waned away. I completely quit the elder scrolls boards around the time SKyrim came out, mostly because it was tiring seeing everyone wanting to pay thuums. I never went back because it's all strange and frightening to me now. I also was there for the creation of a themed board featuring angels and demons in a psuedo world of darkness like setting. There were good writers there, but it never took off.
>>32878790I'm not sure of liking MUDs. Forum roleplays seem way more adaptable
>>32878877Forum roleplays would be the most adaptable, and the most suited for slower paced RPS.I haven't used MUDs before, but they seem most useful for a more MMO feel (without the MMO budget). This has its advantages and disadvantages.
>>32878965I don't think RPGs and MMOs really mix well together. MMOs are very limited in what you can do, what happen and the interactions you can have.
>>32879027Some of the best RPs I've had have been on MMOs, although most RPs I've seen on MMOs suck. And despite how sad it sounds, the best RPers I found were on Second Life. Second Life (Low Fantasy Outpost), however, has become Furfag and Fetishist only (last time I checked), and mostly dead.
If we do make a forum with RPG rules, we'll need GMs that follow each threads, make sure the rules are used correctly and play the NPCs
I remember suggesting something similar in a different thread and was mostly ignored. Good to see some people had similar ideasWhat would we need to do to go about creating the forum, hosting it, electing GMs, etc.
>>32874954Oh my god, I couldn't stop crying. Please, more, I need more.Eye of the tiger is still playing in the background.
>>32878364>you'd run the danger of having stuff like a group of players starting a 40K expansionist empireWhy is this a bad thing? Well, it's bad if everyone joins in and it becomes just that, granted, but wouldn't other factions spring up to counter that, essentially making for a more organic world with its own story happening because the players' actions fueled it?
>>32879872I agree with this anon.
>>32879872>>32879928It'll be bad only if we all agreed on another setting and that people kept trying to recreate 40k. Otherwise, it's ok
>>32880187I wouldn't even mind "recreations" so long as it's not literally 40k, but I don't really see anything wrong with players forming an Imperium-styled expansionist force, just as long as there were other forces present to balance that out
I managed to save this from some bad RPing story livejournal. Get ready for the story of Commander Dumbass! So, you and your squad have broken into an enemy base. After some conflict with the basic security drones, your team bursts through a wall into an office, where you come face to face with high ranking members of the enemy squad. These guys escaped last time you fought by taking members of your team hostage, so you know that these guys are skilled and dangerous. As the leader of this squad, what is the best course of action in dealing with these illusive foes? Attack them head on, attempting to ovepower them with your superior firepower? Send a few men to move around the outside of the room to flank them? Give the signal to your sniper to fire, since he says he has a clear shot? Perhaps you could fall back and attempt to take the enemy out at a chokepoint? If you answered "shoot your squad's tech expert in the knees to show the enemy that you mean business," then you're absolutely correct!...wait, what?
>>32874954I play in the Order of the Stick forum's freeform setting. It's...it's alright, I guess. It hasn't had any real horror stories, shit players, or edgelords since the furry who deflected bullets with his cock, but that was like two years ago.
>>32880432We were all taken aback when the commander of a squad in our RP shot his team’s tech expert in the knees upon confronting the enemy. He tried to justify his actions to the team, saying that said techie was taken hostage by the enemy last time they confronted this particular enemy squad, and he didn’t want anyone being a potential liability this time around. It was still an incredibly stupid move, since injuring a teammate makes him an even bigger liability if something goes wrong. But whatever, we can always court marshal the guy once the mission’s over. It wasn’t like he was the squad’s real captain anyway- the usual captain was in the hospital recovering from shrapnel lodged in his chest. Our characters yelled at him IC and told him how idiotic his move was, He brushed it off like the UBER HARDCORE BADASS that he is, and we left it at that for the time being. The enemy had begun to fire, and there was no time to argue with the idiot.Heads really started spinning when, throughout the fight with the enemy… he continued to take out his own men. That’s right. Every couple of posts, Commander Dumbass would say something along the lines of “I’m really sorry about this, but it has to be done.” and shoot one of the other players on his team in a the legs or bash them over the head with his gun. Like any sane person would do, we eventually decide that our commander has lost it and try to open fire. His response? He throws a grenade at his squadmates. As his squad takes cover, Commander Dumbass rushes for the enemy squad, now using all of the confusion as an attempt to escape. With half of his squad down and the rest dazed from the blast of his frag grenade, our commander has certainly succeeded in making sure he’s completely alone while fighting the enemy. Only once he’s caught up with the fleeing squad is does Commander Dumbass reveal why he just took out his team:COMMENT TOO LONG MUST CONTINUE LATER
>>32879872I could go into it, but its largely due to my pessimism about any large minority group. When I say large minority I mean 30-45% of the group population (if it was a true majority then it would be a 40k rp, and it would be ok to leave it at that).. To give a quick example, that is outside of rping, WOW was basically ruined (IMO) by vocal minorities that hated the fact that some builds were stronger than others. So they progressively stripped down the potential for customization of the game.I'd be worried about them essentially lobbying to chance facets of the game. Another worry I have which I wont get into (because I gotta get back to some stuff IRL) is when they grief or harass other players (to the point were people aren't having fun. I am not saying 40kers are like this (I love 40k). I am saying any fandom can become like it.
>>32880432Wait was this the GM's idea of a good idea or what the party actually did?
>>32880450…because one of the mercenaries on the enemy team killed his wife four years ago, and he wanted his vengeance to be personal.What.WHAT.WHAT!?No, you fucking idiot. The fact that your wife was killed doesn’t justify you trying to kill your entire squad just so you can personally kill the guys who killed her. A lot of our characters want revenge against the enemy squad, just like quite a few characters on the enemy squad joined the enemy team because they wanted to get revenge on us for something we did. Has it ever occurred to you that those characters joined their team because they understood that they NEEDED teammates to achieve this revenge? The fact that you’ve been using your team- the team that considered you a friend, with the intention of stepping on them later does not make you cool. It makes you look like a moron. But whatever. Good luck taking on the seven heavily armed mercenaries you just “cornered” by yourself. Because your team certainly isn’t coming to back you up.>>32880457From what I've seen, it was a freeform war RP, and Commander Dumbass was just a high-ranking member of one of the factions.
>>32880443> since the furry who deflected bullets with his cockDude, you can't just drop that and not expect us to not want to hear the story behind it.
>>32880463I apologize if this is a bit hard to read, I don't really want to convert the entire story into greentext. When the commander of a secret organization's infantry is injured on the job, his second in command is promoted to captain temporarily. While serving as captain, the newly promoted dumbass is faced with the task of infiltrating a rivaling secret organizations' base. He then proceeds to kneecap the tech expert, knock out several other members of his squad, and lob a grenade at his squadmates. His justification? Mercs on the enemy team killed his wife, and he wanted to personally kill their fleeing leader. So, he takes out his own squad to ensure that there's no interference and chases after the merc leader and his seven bodyguards and attempts to face them all on his own. Because "ONLY HE DESERVES TO KILL HIS WIFE'S MURDERERS!" So, as one would expect, Commander Dumbass gets a royal ass kicking since he has no squad and he's completely outnumbered. The bad guys decide it would be funnier to let him live, and leave him to face the consequences of his betrayal of his teammates as they board a helicopter. Before they leave, a wounded Captain Dumbass tells his wife's killer and his squad the coordinates of his team's base, and swears revenge for all the people they'll kill when they attack it. In that order As the enemy flees, Captain Dumbass' injured and dazed squadmates finally manage to recompose themselves and promptly arrest their traitorous captain. He's put on trial by his organizations' leaders for betrayal of the organization. He gives a long, shammy speech about how "I am a respectable and honorable man, but when my eyes laid upon my wife's killer, my mind was clouded by darkness! All I could see was rage!"
>>32880482No one in the courtroom buys it. Commander Dumbass is told that the organization he works for cannot allow his service to continue if he cannot prove his loyalty. His response? "I think my loyalty will be proved very soon, sir. My chance to redeem myself is coming..." And suddenly the entirety of three of the enemy's mercenary squads attack the base. Ultimately, Commander Dumbass demands they remove his handcuffs so he can help fight, and they reluctantly agree, The battle is long and terrible, and casualties on Commander Dumbass' team are confirmed to be over two hundred once the battle ends, including a handful of Dumbass' superiors. But once the smoke clears, the heroes (and Commander Dumbass) stand victorious, thanks to their higher numbers and knowledge of the base's layout. Either way, the orginization's location has been discovered, hundreds are dead, and now they'll have to relocate their base. And as everyone mourns the incredible losses, Commander Dumbass gets up in front of a podium, and proceeds to make a big speech about how this was his plan to make up for injuring his squadmates all along. ...What? But... Huh? That's right! Commander Dumbass explains that he knew that he would lose the trust of his organization for what he did, so to make up for it he told the enemy their base's location. Knowing that they would be outnumbered and outclassed when they attack, he had intentionally led them into his "genius deathtrap." And even though 200 men were lost because he sold out his team, it's apparently okay, since the "bad guys lost MORE guys!!" He ends by saying that he hopes his actions have reaffirmed his teammates trust in him, and to carry on to a brighter tomorrow so the losses on the battle aren't in vain. Instead of the cheering he expected, Commander Dumbass is immediately court Marshalled.
>>32880467Thisdo it, anonor I'll deflect your face with my cock
>>32880495Commander Dumbass managed to escape his transportation cell during a follow up enemy attack, and escaped into exile where he swore to get revenge on his wife's killer with or without his team. There was still hope- the tale of Commander Dumbass would continue. So, after spending so long trying to undermine the rp's main story and make everyone's actions revolve around his angsty revenge quest, what could Commander Dumbass possibly do to top his previous idiotic attempts to gain attention? Why, a face-heel turn, of course!...Having brought serious injury upon many of his own teammates, sold out the location of his secret organization's base to the enemy secret organization, and caused the deaths of over two hundred of his own men, things looked bleak for the Commander. Luckily, on his way to execution the caravan his cell is located on is ambushed by the enemy faction and he manages to escape into the desert. As he runs off, he swears that his quest to avenge his wife will never end, even though "his teammates betrayed him." Somehow. That was the last we heard of the guy for a while. About a month later, the enemy faction faces some internal dispute and is torn in half. This splinter group forms the third faction, and suddenly the two way fight between shady groups for control over a powerful country with a corrupt government becomes a three way one.We skip ahead another few weeks or so, and faction three is hiring mercenaries to lead an attack on a complex they believe that Commander Dumbass' old faction currently occupies. As they're gathering mercs for the job, guess who shows up, having up until now been wandering aimlessly for a full in-game year? Good old Commander Dumbass.
>>32880518He tells the third faction that he's now more than willing to kill and slaughter the people he called teammates a year ago because they "didn't understand his need for vengeance." Clearly having forgotten for that he never really gave his team a chance to understand his need for vengeance before lobbing a live grenade at them, Commander goes on to explain that unlike the other mercs, he needs no pay- he just wants them to find him his wife's killer. (who still remains loyal to the faction that faction 3 split off from, and has gone deep into hiding since the initial Commander Dumbass incident)Since Commander Dumbass knows more about his old team than the other hitmen being hired, the leader of faction 3 makes the mistake of making Commander Dumbass the leader of the squad."Well," I said to myself, "Maybe he's less of an idiot now. Maybe in his time off, the good commander has learned that the plot of the rp is not "Commander Dumbass' angsy vengeance show."Sadly, I was proved wrong very quickly. As Commander Dumbass piloted the helicopter carrying his teammates over the base of his once close friends and partners, the memory of his team's alleged "betrayal" drives him into an uncontrollable psychotic tempertantrum. So much so, that he screams out about his revenge, and leaps with a parachute out of the helicopter mid flight while his team is still inside....what?
>>32880467Alright, but I'm warning you now, it's a shit story, and a short one. He was just this big hairy hyena/wolf/wheatever the fuck, in a largely human/humanoid setting. I think he was trying to be funny the time he did that or something. He was always going on about his character being desperately horny, his character profile said he just respawned like a player in Halo if anything ever killed him, and...fuck it, let me just link his characters.
>>32880551As his team scrambles to grab parachutes and escape the rapidly falling helicopter, Commander Dumbass freefalls toward the ground, self monologuing Such garbage as "As I looked upon that base... the base of those traitors, my heart was filled with the rage of the most furious star in the sky as it errupts in a supernova of pure HATE." (This is an actual quote.)He and his team safely touched down outside the base, many escaping only barely with their lives. However, the commotion of the pilotless helicopter exploding as it hits the ground draws the attention of the armed guards within, who quickly rush outside. Seeing his old team for the first time in years, Commander Dumbass turns to the group of highly trained hitmen and mercenaries and gives them his orders-"Everyone lower your weapons and stand back. This is my revenge... This first wave is all mine."Ladies and gentlemen, the Dumbass has returned. You know, this is almost like that Edgardo story, only the player is a LOT dumber, has no foil in a squid-headed bro, and is actively influential in the RP's direction.
>>32880552>fuck it, let me just link his characters. The ride begins. Buckle up, everyone.
>>32880577When we last left our idiot, Commander Dumbass had leaped out of a helicopter he was piloting, nearly killed all of his new teammates, and then ordered his team of highly trained hitmen and mercs to stand back while he single handedly prepared to wipe out an entire wave of his old team's members. (Who, might I mind you had recently "betrayed (him)" because they "Didn't understand (his) quest for vengeance" and kicked him out of the group after he sold out the location of their base to the enemy in an event that led to hundreds of deaths on the Commander's own team.)Either way, there he was. Commander Dumbass, weapons drawn, prepared to slaughter his old comrades in exchange for information about his wife's killer's location. Alerted by the explosion of the helicopter the Commander jumped out of, a squad of the Commander's old team emerged from the base. One Hitman working with the commander nudges another on the shoulder as they watch their lunatic commander stare down the base. He remarks to the other that the poor bastard's going to get himself killed, but the other responds that "If the asshole wants us to stand by like spectators as he gets himself killed, we might as well enjoy the show."
Man, someone needs to screencap this Commander Dumbass story.
>>32880597One of the Commander's old squad mates (Let's call her Jane) recognizes him as she emerges from the base. She gives the order from the men to ready their weapons, but not to open fire until she tries to talk him down. He may be crazy now, but Jane and the Commander have been friends since childhood and she's already kind of upset over his betrayal. Not wanting to gun down an old friend, She tries to appeal to his "sympathetic" side and asks him if his wife would really want him gunning down all of his old friends just to murder her killer. The Commander's response? And I quote;"You Just Don't understand! None of you understand my pain!"Jane reluctantly gives him one last chance to stand down and orders her men to take aim. In a rare monent of common sense, Commander Dumbass realizes that he's outgunned. He considers telling the men who he brought with him to back him up, but that would make too much sense. Apparently, "The men come for when we storm the base. I need to send a message to those who stand in my way first. A personal message." As he glances around, he notices that the crashed helicopter near the base enterance, while having suffered severe damage from the crash and being on fire, seems to have it's mounted missile launcher still attached. In the OOC chat, one player remarks "oh god, what is he trying to do?"Jane sighs, and tells her sniper to take the shot. Then it happens. In the span of one post, Commander Dumbass runs over to the helicopter, takes hold of one of the missiles, yanks it loose, hoists it over his head, charges the base, and throws the missile at the enemy squadron.>>32880601It's alright, I can post a link to the site I stole it from at the end of the story.Holy...fucking...but...WHAT.

>>32880616Understand this- between his grammar, his purple prose, his attention whoring, and his dumbfuckery, Commander Dumbass probably should have been kicked out of the RP a while back so the rest of our players can actually enjoy a plot without him butting in leaking “MY WIFE IS DEAD” angst all over the place. The only reason we keep him around is because, honestly, he's too damn entertaining to not keep. It's pretty much a joke that everyone but him is in on at this point, and I would feel bad for him if he weren't as fun as he is. Of course, having an over the top p style that’s so bad it's good is one thing. Throwing a missile is another thing entirely. The admin quickly calls him out on it, explaining OOC that he is not allowed to hurl a missile with his bare hands. Commander Dumbass' player actually questions this at first. Apparently, there was some SERIOUS confusion as to the size and weight of these missiles. The two argue in chat for a while and eventually come to the conclusion that no, even under the effects of his raging testosterone of vengeance, CD could not throw a missile. Asked to do something less stupid, the Commander re-writes his post. Instead of hurling a missile, the commander quickly flicks a grenade off of his belt and strafes backwards for cover as the team at the gate scatters, more or less firing blindly into the chaos. It’s stupid, yeah, but the kind of stupidity you’d come to expect from him.
>>32880637The Commander fatally wounds one of the soldiers, and in response Jane fires a few shots, hitting the Commander in the leg as he runs about spraying fire randomly. The Commander goes down screaming “B…But! I! Must! Go! On!!” and the Mercenaries and Hitmen take this as their cue to charge the complex. Between the assassins, cyborgs, genetically enhanced mrcs, and one complete moron, Jane’s squad finds itself suffering too many casualties and they are forced to abandon the complex. Also, throughout the entirety of the fight, Commander Dumbass, guided by his wife’s spirit urging him to carry on (wut), crawls about the base, bleeding everywhere while trying to find a weapon. He finally manages to pick up a dead mercenary’s revolver and fires it, (non-fatally hitting Jane in the hip as she boards an escape helicopter) then passes out on the ground. As the team celebrates the captured base, one of the mercenaries from earlier radios to their group’s leader to send medical support for the injured teammates. As he stares at Commander Dumbass’ unconcious body, he chuckles to himself.“I sure hope this loony ain’t gonna be tagging along with us all the time.”You and me both, buddy. You and me both.
>>32880648So, the leaders of an rp I've been following have decided that it's about time to wrap up the story. The rp isn't over, but once this is said and done we'll take a nice long break before starting up a new rp set in the same universe with a new story and mostly new characters. The catch is that good old Commander Dumbass' player doesn't actually know this, since we've decided not to tell him. For all he knows, the rp is ending soon, so it was of the utmost importance that he finish the Commander's revenge quest storyline in the rp's last event, an all out free-for-all at the nation's destroyed capital. After all, the rp revolves around Commander Dumbass and his dead wife, so we wouldn't want to leave the most important plot thread unresolved, right? The terrorist faction, of which the murderer of the Commander's wife is a member has pretty much seized the capital building, as the rebels (the commander's old team, who he abandoned after the now infamous "shoot my own squadmates, because only I can kill me wife's killer" incident) and the mercenaries (his current team) are throwing everything they've got at the place as an attempt to get inside. Commander Dumbass' squad gets a brilliant idea- the commander is a gun-ho, unstable fuckball who causes a lot of collateral damage, so they decide to throw him at the base's front entrance first to cause a distraction so they can move in and find an alternative entry route. His chance at victory near, Commander Dumbass gets inside of an armored personnel carrier and drives wildly through the battlefield before ramming it into the wall of the palace. He jumps out and begins firing wildly as he runs about, searching for the man who killed his wife. All the while, we get the rediculously over the top inner monologues that the Commander has grown so known for.
>>32880665"The supernova within me- It's growing out of control. All of my anger, my sadness, my love... it's all swirling inside, each emotion becoming indestingishable from the next. I need to let it out. I need to let it out before it explodes. Because if my supernova of emotion finally blows, I may survive that explosion... but no one around me will."(I want to mention at this point that Commander Dumbass is the only person who's been rping in the first person. I don't know how I let that slip for so long without mentioning it, but I feel like it's something I need to point out.)At this point, the Commander's player realizes that he has no way IC to know where in this huge building his wife's killer actually is, so he has the spirit of the Commander's wife show up again, pointing him in the right direction. You know what? Fuck it. Fine. Let's just go with it.The commander finally catches his arch nemesis, his wife's killer, running down a hall on the second floor towards an elevator. He, being the badass that he is, effortlessly kills his three bodyguards with throwing knives and tackles him into the elevator, closing the door and sealing the two inside.
>>32880682Here's the interesting thing- characters who aren't Commander Dumbass sometimes undergo this little thing called character development. Between their last encounter, the character who killed the Commander's wife has gone from a confident and malicious fighter to a nervous, broken, and paranoid man as a result of having so many attempts made on his life by so many people throughout the story. He's lost the will to keep fighting a long time ago, and has been living in fear of the moment that this would happen, and one of his enemies would catch up with him. Realizing that it's all over for him, the killer pulls a the pin off a grenade on his belt. Commander Dumbass calls him a coward, but, realizing that he doesn't have time to escape the elevator, accepts his fate. The commander thinks to himself "At least she'll finally have justice." and yells dramatically as the grenade goes off, destroying the elevator and sending it tumbling down to the ground floor, where it proceeds to explode and seemingly take both men with it.In the OOC chat, we rejoice. However, notice that I said seemingly. The battle continues, and eventually the rebels emerge victorious. The terrorists are wiped out, and the contract killers and mercenaries order a tactical retreat, realizing that the odds are becoming stacked against them. At last, it's all over.Or so it seemed. As the rebels began to clean up the battlefield, a burned but alive Commander Dumbass emerges from the rubble. Apparently, his wife's ghost "protected him from the flames."
>>32880697The rebels prepare to finish him off when he begins a long, heartfelt speech where he casually dismisses all of the terrible things he's done, and forgives them for "betraying" him, because..."My wife's given me a second chance at life. I know that, with her finally at rest, she wants me to put my fury to rest as well. My job is done here- I'll leave you to finish your business with this country. I think that, for all of us, we can finally look forward to a brighter tomorrow."It goes on like that for a bit longer, but you get the picture. All I can say is Bullshit. You really expect to just... walk off into the sunset dramatically after all that? Fuck. you.Remember Jane from the last post? The old friend of the Commander who tried to reason with him, only to get shot for her troubles? As the Commander turns around and walks off, she only has one thing to say."I'm sorry, but too many people have died because of you. We can't just let you walk away from this."And with that, Jane raises her pistol and puts a bullet into the back of the Commander's skull.--The Commander's player rushes to the OOC chat and begins screaming that "She can't do that!! I didn't give her permission to kill my character!" The admin replies with a casual "Eh, rp is ending anyway. I'll let it slide."Enraged, the commander logs off, and none of us have heard from him since....Ladies and gentlemen, so ends the story of Commander Dumbass. Here's a link to the saga as written. Don't thank me, thank whoever suffered through this RP and decided to record it.http://bad-rpers-suck.livejournal.com/tag/commander%20dumbass%20saga
>>32880710>The Commander's player rushes to the OOC chat and begins screaming thatDamn. I was growing fond of Commander Dumbass to the point where I hoped it would end in dignity.
>>32880518Dude, as much as I love the story of Commander Dumbass, it's a little long for a /tg/ thread, I think. Here's the whole thing :http://bad-rpers-suck.livejournal.com/tag/commander%20dumbass%20saga
>>32874954Yeah, I freeform regularly on a grimderp website where everything is cannibalism and enslaving nonhumans and demihumans to fuel humanity's fire. Sadly, everyone plays white knights and flies up my ass whenever I try to play anyone like a bigot... which is how everyone in the setting supposedly is. I do enjoy watching them rage at me for it though.
>>32880443Wait... Do you play in "The Playground" RP, run by TheDarkGM?But yeah, the Order of the Stick forum is good for those games. Too bad the one I try to participate tend to disappear or never start (but it's okay because it's sometime my fault)
>>32880828Oh no no no no gods, no. I'm in the Nexus. I'll be the first to admit it's not perfect, but Chez aside, it's been alright. No GMs whatsoever, though, so it takes some getting used to.
>>32874954Played on Mizahar for years. Founder's a bitch though, don't bother.
>>32880627My god. It's even worse that the time I tried to write the worst fanfic in the world. It's beautiful.>>32880880>Oh no no no no gods, no."The Playground" have this bad a reputation?
>>32874954I went to one for Elder Scrolls and it was pretty much the same thing. Me, the average Breton knight and then hundreds of Nord and Dunmer Vampires, each one edgier than the last. One of them was even a Half-Orc Half-Altmer but his father was Anu and he was a vampire that could harness the powers of the sun and a master of all schools of magic as well as a master of all types of weapons and was immortal. His only weakness was that he could only use these powers if the one holding a magic amulet told him to, but he had his best friend play that character.
>>32881005We're talking about Bleach/Naruto/RWBY/Etc. In the Playground, right? The players there are notoriously strict, tightfisted, and argumentative about everything. From the looks of things, they decide every single fight, scene, and plot, from beginning to end, before it's even played.
>>32881109 Nah, I was talking about the "Playground game", like "City of Ashes".
>>32876555I was a part of a forum like that once. We split off from another forum because of a falling out with the administration. It started out fine, but it ended up being too much world building and not enough game play. We had a bunch of sections with fully fleshed out worlds but only a few were being utilized, and the site fizzled out. With a larger, more focused population it might work, but there needs to be some control on just what makes it into the setting. Too many people like to theorize instead of putting into practice. It's instantly gratifying, but not very filling. It's the same reason I avoid the CYOA threads. Cool concepts and fun, but no results.
My idea for a fantasy roleplaying forum.1) It would have a rules system. Rules lite, to be sure, but the forum would have a built-in dice roller and character sheets with stats. I'm thinking simple d6 or Microlite types of things.2) There would be DM's/Moderators. These people would be responsible for making sure no one is abusing/ignoring forum or system rules. They would also come up with plotlines and run their own threads.3) Character growth would be judged through completed threads.>Growth would be lateral more than vertical; you'd get more cool things to do, not become an unstoppable killing machine>Threads which garner xp would have an expiration date- if you started it and forgot about it, you don't get xp when it expires.>If you're in a thread someone ELSE abandons, you'd still get xp.4) There would be a loose time system. This is related to Xp threads 'expiring'. You could only start a certain number of Xp threads within a given timeframe.>Each X number of days or weeks, the GM's would +1 the timestamp. So this week's, for example, would be 1-1. The next week, your first thread would get the timestamp 2-1. Etc. Etc.Should I continue explaining my ideas, or am I a tremendous faggot? I'm a tremendous faggot anyway, but really, anyone interested in more?
>>32881635>, not become an unstoppable killing machineYou don't necesseraly become an unstoppable killing machine with vertival growth, dude. Becoming better doesn't mean you become a god.
>>32874954The thing which has always discouraged me from even considering trying freeform RP is the purple prose.I have see people write a fuckhuge mile long wall of text which can be summarized as "He waved."Hell I once saw a guy that kept describing his edgelord as having a "constipated expression" whenever he fought.
>>32881442Couldn't we run it kind of like a CYOA? Give a bunch of choices for powers and/or equipment, and run it all out of the same pool of points?Have the administration(and maybe some of the moderation) build worlds out of a similar pool of points, so there's more than just a blank, featureless void to work with.Best part of doing something like that is, we could balance test it, in-house, in the CYOA threads.
>>32881926I never said that you wouldn't become better, just that the gap between a high level character and a low level one wouldn't be insurmountable. The high level one would have more tools in his toolbox - and some straight up better tools - but he wouldn't be invincible or untouchable to those below him.
>>32882079CYOAs are kind of limited to one character/civilisation/coherent group
