Better late than never edition.

Character Sheet: http://pastebin.com/5PdCKbwc

The story so far (Ignore 2A) : http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=peasant+quest

You stand atop a hill where your old village once stood, leaning against a crude memorial stone you erected.

Recent events have left your mind reeling. You petitioned The Pale Tree, only to have it inflict an insatiable hunger upon you which led you to unintentionally wipe out a small village.

Then you learned from Arsaces the fate of the one all vampires (save yourself) call 'Mother'. After laying waste to her own children and the living alike. She was put down by an unlikely alliance of elder vampires and the first true vampire hunters with a holy spear you know all too well. She now lies entombed somewhere beneath the Carpathian mountains.

You are now certain that 'Mother' and Kassa are one and the same. Though you have kept this and your own relationship with her to yourself thus far.

Armed with these revelations, what do you do?
>>
>>32877233
Well, combined with our ability to 'feel' her out and a general whereabouts, we may actually be able to find her. However, armed with the knowledge of what she's done, do we really want to?

In any case, we need to hone our skills and perhaps find other records of this event
>>
>>32877233
We need to find her, we can probably calm her down abit. Maybe. Though I doubt Arasces will be forthcoming about how to get to her or wake her up.

We should get to know him better, we missed out on an opportunity to learn cool vampire shit when we snubbed Octavia. We should probably see what we can learn from Arasces.

>>32877284
> However, armed with the knowledge of what she's done, do we really want to?

B..but our eldritch waifu!

In all seriousness she is the only real part of our old life that still exists. If I were in the situation the PC is in, I'd want to find her regardless of what she's done.

Tell him the truth about yourself?

Or

Stick with the amnesiac elder whose been asleep since the dark ages tale?

Hey OP, I read yours quests in the archives a few days ago and I was wondering when you'd reappear. My body is ready.

Go with amnesia.
>>
>>32877845

Even after living in London as one of the undead these past few years, theres still so much you don't know.

Arsaces is one of the eldest vampires alive as well as one of the few remaining who knew Kassa. He also seems to have expressed some level of kinship with you. You decide to ask him for help.

You tell him that despite seeming ancient, you have only been 'awake' a short number of years, having spent much of your existence asleep. You explain that you were brought across in the dark ages and your memory is hazy. That you feel lost in this time and still know relatively little about yourself and your kind.

Arsaces seems to digest this request slowly and thoughtfully.

"I can see that there is a part of you that still wants to be a good man, in spite of what you've become. I'll teach you as best I can, though it will not be easy."

He leads you back to his home, a large cave hidden in the cliffs not far from where you were shipwrecked and bids you make yourself at home.

**A timeskip is pending**

Is there anything you want to do first?
>>
>>32878339
Try to feel out this vampire and maybe learn his true intentions. Maybe he's pure, maybe he's not.
>>
>>32878358

I'll second this.

Also is Arsaces the same guy as: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsaces_I_of_Parthia ?
>>
>>32878358

Whilst you have only just met him, Arsaces has a sense of calm about him that puts you at ease.

There's more 'humanity' in the way he speaks, moves and holds himself, than there was about Octavia.

Theres also a palpable sense of regret that hangs over him like a cloud.

You spend the next few years living with Arasces in his cave; he is true to his word and teaches you a great deal.

You learn how, long ago him and many of the firstborn vampires lived as warlords, commanding armies of slaves and worshippers. They carved out petty kingdoms for themselves from Europe into Asia and committed many atrocities to satisfy their lust for blood and power.

After mother turned against them and was imprisoned, Arasces began to question this way of living, eventually abandoning all his power and possessions to study with a group of religious ascetics. As a result he feeds as little as possible and has learned to hold in check many of the crueller and more destructive aspects of his nature. Of the surviving firstborn, he is the most compassionate towards the living.

He tells you how his surviving brothers and sisters also had to cast aside their armies and kingdoms, though not by choice, but because the world changed. Several still hold considerable, if covert power over the cities in which they reside.

Though he does not approve of the ways in which they live, it is clear he holds towards them a great affection, like a true family.

continued....
>>
>>32879166

He teaches you some of the spiritual disciplines that allow him to control his nature:

***You are now able to suppress ‘Pestilence’ so that it only affects those who have direct contact with you. This is only possible when you are well fed.***

***New ability: Mask***
When well fed, you are able to appear more like a living human if you so choose. This takes considerable concentration to achieve. Perceptive observers will still notice that there is something strange about you in time.

Arasces also has a considerable store of books, which you have read several times each. You have learned more about the modern world and its history.

He has not told you exactly where Kassa is buried, but he has told you that her resting place is sealed in some kind of consecrated barrier, which requires both a powerful vampire and a human successor of the spear-wielder who impaled her to breach.

Is there anything further you want to ask of him?
>>
>>32879176
Ask him about the order of the shining sun or whatever. The dudes that shoved the spear in the protagonist.

Sun spear guys, and how to gtfo this island
>>
>>32879213
>Ask him about the order of the shining sun or whatever. The dudes that shoved the spear in the protagonist.

Arasces does not know anything of the origin of the spear that was used to defeat Kassa, only that it was found with her when she awoke around 3000 years ago.

(Using your newfound knowledge of history, you discern that worship of The Sun King, as well as the civilization in which it was practiced have long since been erased by time. You can only speculate that human civilization fell apart in the ice age, only to rise again thousands of years later. There is no record of any society even a fraction of as old as you. Arasces himself is only around 2000 years old, so it is well before his time & 'Mother' would not speak of her origins.)
>>
I like this quest! I was watching for it ever day.

>>
>>32879222
>Ask him how we should proceed in mastering our undeath, to better control our abilities.

He advises you to practice self-control using the meditations he has taught you and to live apart from large numbers of people if at all possible. To feed only from the wicked or from those to whom death is a mercy.

>Are there other sons we should seek out that may be helpful?

Other than Arasces himself there are four surviving 'firstborn' vampires:

Octavia - Whom you have already met, she resides in London.

Uldin - Thought to be the oldest vampire other than 'Mother' and her first 'son'. He is physically a boy of about 12 and is the only male firstborn who does not resemble you. His right arm is permanently charred & skeletal after trying to hold the golden spear. He is a mysterious figure and is thought to be somewhere in central Asia.

Ankou - A fierce, warlike man. He lives a nomadic existence, always seeking the bloodiest battlefield. Known to start wars for sport. He is thought to have his own battleship crewed by slaves both living and dead.

Siduri - The second eldest surviving vampire after Uldin. She is close with Arasces. She has mastered disguising herself as a living woman as well as manipulating human senses. She owns a successful hotel in Morocco and is effectively the secret ruler of the city.

He has not passed comment, but is a stoic man who gives very little away.

---

You have spent many years with Arasces and have come to respect him and think of him as a friend. Now however he has told you that he has taught you all he can in such an isolated locale and you must put what you have learned into practice in the wider world.

He has certain connections and can arrange for you to be flown by cargo plane in a closed casket of soil virtually anywhere in the world. You have enough control over yourself now that you believe the flight crew will only suffer a few nightmares and vague unease as a result of your presence.

Where do you go and what do you do?

Welcome to immortality and only being conscious will the sun is down. (real reason, my knowledge of that period isnt really good enough to do it justice.)

>Some DnD style alignments for the surviving firstborn for insight purposes:
Arasces - Lawful Neutral Ascetic, stoic atoner.
Octavia - Lawful Evil Aristocrat, a bit crazy.
Uldin - Enigmatic Prophet 'blue and orange morality', utterly unreadable.
Ankou - Chaotic Evil Warlord, dangerously insane or totally inhuman.
Siduri - Chaotic Good Socialite, wishes she were alive again.

Siduri seems like the only one we could reasonably track down.

Tell him that those humans that we stay with seem to be plagued with unrest and ill dreams. Ask him if he know of a technique to control this.

Also, ask for a letter to be sent to Siduri. Finally, thank Arasces, and ask him if there is any way to reach him over long distances.
>>
>>32880441
Alright, here's my take on it. We should go to Siduri because Arasces is on good terms with her, she knows how to mask her true form quite well, she seems to be agreeable to our belief that undeath isn't quite as awesome as it sounds, and she isn't going to be a bastard to find like Uldin, use us in her plots of plotting like Octavia, or is completely fucking nuts like Ankou.

"I choose to live apart from human society and I am not familiar with this condition of our nature. Siduri is wise in such matters, perhaps she could help."

> ask for a letter to be sent to Siduri. Finally, thank Arasces, and ask him if there is any way to reach him over long distances.

"It is already on its way brother. You need not thank me. It was my honour to meet you."

He clasps your hand in a firm grip before you part ways, saying that if you need him all you need do is write a letter, then let an easterly wind take it.

Before you know it you are concealed within a box full of soil bound for Morocco. The Sun rises and you dream.

You are in the barn behind your family’s home, then laid out bleeding to death in the old stone circle, then stood amidst the burning ruins of your village. In the dream, somehow all these places are one. You know Kassa is with you, though you cannot see her.

From behind she wraps her arms around your waist, you feel her lips brush your ear.

"Release me"

Then you are awake.

You appear to have been delivered to a large bar cellar with a shipment of alcohol.

A well dressed, living man appears and begins fussing over you without so much as an introduction.

"No no no, you cannot attend the party looking like that, covered in soil and dressed like a farmer. We must get you bathed and properly dressed!"

"I was a farm....."

Before you can finish the man whisks you away up a spiral staircase into a lavishly decorated corridor, you turn one corner, then another, then up another set of stairs passing various living people who do not seem to notice you at all.

You are ushered into a large hotel room, it is more luxurious than anything you've ever seen and boasts a balcony with a magnificent view over the city.

There is a small team of tailors waiting who start taking your measurements before you can say a word.

A maid hands you a glass of what you realise is fresh blood, which you quickly quaff. It's not as satisfying as blood from the vein, but it serves.

She gestures to a doorway to your right and says "There is a hot bath waiting for you sir, is there anything you need?"

"I shall have a selection of newspapers brought up at once, there is also a wireless by the window if you prefer."

You examine the wireless, you've read about them but have never seen one before. You turn the dial and suddenly the air is filled with relaxing music.

You remove your remaining garments and make for the bathroom, which is as large and opulent as the bedroom, huge mirrors adorn every wall though none show your reflection. In the centre of the room is a large marble bathtub filled with steaming hot, soapy water.

Lounging naked in the bath is the most stunningly beautiful woman you've ever seen...

You werent able to sense her until now but you can tell she is a vampire. Her skin is flawless, if unusally pale. Stray curls of thick, coal-black hair hang from her loosely tied up tresses framing her delicate features perfectly. She has eyes, although they are extremely bloodshot and pearly white teeth which are only slightly pointed.

She wears a dark silken scarf wrapped around her neck and everything beneath her ample breasts is concealed beneath the soapy water.

She looks at you up and down before addressing you in a musical French (which you learnt in Corsica).

"So you must be the forgotten son Arasces spoke so highly of! Welcome to my home, I am Siduri."

She beckons to you.

"Come join me, you look like you need it."

"You have the family look, but I do not remember you or hearing of you for that matter. Our dour brother says you have only recently awoken after sleeping the ages away, with little in the way of memories. Quite the mystery hmmm"

Her eyes go to the spear wound in your chest.

"An intriguing injury...."

OP is being tricky

From part 4:
>"All vampires are known to retain the wound that ended their mortal life & in all observed type 1's & 2's this has been a bite inflicted by the 'parent'."
>"This specimen has no bite on his body, the fatal injury appears to be a puncture wound to the chest, likely caused by conventional means."
>"This gives me reason to believe that we finally have before us an example of the hitherto unobserved 'type 3 vampire'. Before today the only reference to such a creature was to be found within incomplete Byzantine manuscripts. It arises spontaneously without the intervention of another of it's kind!"

If we tell her it's a spear wound we're revealing a lot more than we might want to.

>>32883299
>Knowledge check please. Did we learn how to make new vampires from Arasces?

You did.

Type two vampires are created by biting and draining a victim to death at midnight on a full moon and willing them to rise. Type ones are created the same way, but at any other time.

No blood drinking is involved. A vampire only has blood in their body for a short time after feeding, it corresponds with the duration of the 'alive feeling'.

Then don't be an ass when you don't agree with someone.

This we made a stupid mistake. Can't get out of it easily so let's play the "slept for so long amnesia" card.

Well played OP
>>
>>32883479
We got turned after a battle with a spear through our chest. Thats at least what she told you because you can't remember much from before your long sleep.
>>
>>32883476
Tell her the truth.

"I was killed by a spear. And when I should have died, I instead awoke. I found her then, nearby in a small village that no longer exists in this world; erased by the ages of this Earth. She was wallowing in the blood of the townspeople. And I felt an immense love for her."

Way too much info.

A raider's spear.
>>32883223
Nah, we were killed by a raider's spear. The Sun Spear didn't kill us.
>>
“I….I don’t remember. There was a battle, I took a wound from an enemy’s spear. Mother was there, drinking my blood. That’s all I can recall.”

Siduri leans forward, her midriff then her hips rising up out of the water. She braces her hands on the lip of the bathtub to either side of you, she moves forward so her knees are to either side of your thighs, she stops just a few inches away from straddling your waist. She arches her back and her nipples briefly brush against your bare skin.

Her face is only a finger’s span from yours.

“I could feed you enough so your heart starts beating.”

She slowly licks her lips.

“After that I’m sure I’d be able to jog your memories of this wound, as well as…… other things.”

She nips the tip of your nose with her teeth. Then suddenly stands and steps out of the bath.

Her naked body is a work of art.

“Unfortunately I have a party to host, so it’ll have to wait for another time. Enjoy the bath and put on one of the suits I’ve had made for you.”

She dons a bathrobe and heads for the door.

“I’ll see you downstairs in the auditorium, I need to present you to the city. Then we can discuss business as well as pleasure.”

With that she’s gone.

You thoroughly scrub yourself down until you are immaculately clean.

You towel yourself off and head back to the bedroom.

There are three suits of exquisite quality, one black, one white and one grey fitted to precisely your measurements laid out on the bed as well as a pair of dark glasses, a comb and some ‘brylcreem’. A selection of newspapers has been laid out on the coffee table on the balcony.

You can hear music and laughter coming from somewhere downstairs.

What do you do and what do you wear?
>>
>>32884361
White, with a proper side part.

You don the white suit and comb your hair as best you can without a mirror before putting on the glasses. It’ll look strange to be wearing them indoors at night but it’s probably better than the alternative.

You follow the sound of music downstairs until you reach a crowded auditorium, a pianist is playing in the centre of the room whilst an attractive young woman with a siren’s voice sings a song full of longing.

There are hundreds of people in the room, laughing drinking and dancing. Siduri sits at the head of a raised table against the far wall with several other vampires. There are perhaps 12 there in total, some have the same ‘almost human’ features as Siduri herself.

There is also a strange figure stood motionless in one of the corners, he is somehow difficult to make out even when you stare directly at him. He is very thin and wears the ragged uniform of a French Foreign Legionnaire. There is no life coming from him, though can tell that he is not a vampire. He seems very much out of place, though no one else seems to notice him.

What do you do?
>>
>>32884685
Walk up to the strange dude and investigate, picking up a glass of champagne on the way.
>>
>>32884685
Walk right up to him to look him in the face, see if that makes him easier to make out.
>>
>>32884790
>>32884839

You approach the strange figure.

As you draw closer it becomes clear that it is not a man at all but a human skeleton wearing a ruined uniform and somehow standing erect under its own power.

When you get close enough, its jaws open and a ghastly rasping voice emerges.

"How impressive that you've noticed me when my sweet sister has done all that she can to hide me from view."

"When I heard tell of a 'forgotten son'. Curiosity compelled me to see my new brother. IF that is what you are. Though it's a shame I could not be here in the flesh."

The skeleton seems amused at its own turn of phrase and clacks its jaws in what you assume is laughter.

What do you do?
>>
>>32885044
Sip at the champagne for a moment and eye him curiously.

Seems like some sort of surrogate for Uldin.

"Uldin, I assume? And where are you then, if not here in person?"

You guys do realize he has been awake for under 100 years, most of it on an island or stalking the streets of old london. He would not know all that much, in fact I doubt he even knows anything beyond 4th grade math or any other studies.
>>
>>32885374
>under 100 years
What the actual fuck.
Yeah he doesbt actually know about speaking skeletons, but is it really that fucking surprising after a talking tree god resurrects you?
>>
>>32885137
>Uldin, I assume? And where are you then, if not here in person?

The skeleton clacks its jaws even harder at this, then gestures to Siduri's table, she has stood up and is glaring at it.

"You've gone and made her jealous. Has she not had you yet? Trust me, it's something to die for."

The skeleton starts clacking its jaws once again, apparently it enjoys laughing at its own material.

The room begins to spin suddenly and you are no longer in the corner but stood before Siduri's table with the skeleton beside you.

She calls out to you. "Come away from that ugly thing dear, sit by me."

She puts her hands on her hips and addresses the skeleton. "Why must you try and turn everything into a macabre spectacle!?"

The skeleton does not reply and keeps clacking away, evidently having the time of its 'life'.

What do you do?
>>
>>32885169
But he IS an incompetent fag, anon. He just bumbled into a ritual circle, got stuck like a pig, became a undead priest to a douchbag vampire tree, and after failing to get it on with his undead lady love, got a spear through the ribs for his troubles and fell into a coma for about two millennia.

And that's part one.

Face it. We're playing Mr. Bean, lord of the unliving.
>>
>>32885547
> fell into a coma for about two millennia.

More like a hundred and twenty millennia anon.
>>

>>

>Mr. Bean, lord of the unliving

Haha, I should rename the quest.
>>
>>32885547
Nah man. First we get together with some shady stranger to rob ancient graves, leave our village behind for thrill treasure and adventure, lie to our old and very good friend about it and only after things go wrong you guys decide to moralfag.
We also chose an intelligent character, so Mr. bean is out of the question, we had more then enough time to adjust, so please stop hiding your trolling behind ooc.

"I'm tiring of your ... 'games'. I must admit, I was not entirely truthful earlier. I must find your mother. It's been over 120,000 years since we last saw each other, and I'm growing very tired of waiting."
>>
>>32885715
You got to admit, a quest with a bumbling shmuck of an MC who, through incredibly poor luck, got superpowers but just tries to live his life as normal as possible while fucking it up with his abilities, might be pretty fun.
>>
>>32885644

You take the empty seat next to Siduri, she seems better company than the skeleton, who you're sure was mocking you.

>>32885812
>I'm tiring of your ... 'games'. I must admit, I was not entirely truthful earlier. I must find your mother. It's been over 120,000 years since we last saw each other, and I'm growing very tired of waiting.

Siduri raises an eyebrow at you but the skeleton keeps on laughing.

That awful rasping voice returns.
"I remember the last one who said that, he was nothing more than a greasy smear on the flagstones after Mother finished with him. I enjoyed watching."

It continues.

"I'll wager you've not been awake for more than fifty years. You're an ignorant child in the body of a man."

The room seems to darken and a pressure fills the air. All the people in the hall stop dead and begin trembling and twitching. Some start to bleed from the nose or ears. They look as if they are the subject of two invisible forces trying to pull them in opposite directions.

"That is enough...."

Moving faster than you thought possible. Siduri seizes the skeleton and shatters it into countless fragments with her bare hands.

"Out of you!"

The room quickly returns to normal and the people continue with what they were doing, apparently oblivious to what just happened.

Siduri returns to the table and flings herself down into her seat, not bothering to brush the bone dust off of her silk evening gown. She does not look happy.

"I have to see her, if only to keep a promise from long ago."
>>

You turn to Siduri and apologise for ruining the evening.

She smiles and touches your arm.

"Not at all, you don't have to apologise for Ankou's behaviour. I'm sorry you had to see it. He's been raving about his latest 'masterwork' via those grotesque puppets of his for some time."

She sighs

"That outburst of yours was ill advised though, people will talk and Ankou wasnt wrong. More than once one of our late brothers has come to believe he is the one you are all intended to resemble. It did not end well."

She turns to the other vampires,

"Leave us, I need some time with my brother."

As one, they get up and bow their heads to her, then to you before leaving.

Almost everyone else in the auditorium suddenly seems to have decided to leave as well. Only the pianist and a waiter remain, who brings a warm bottle of fresh blood and a pair of glasses to the table, you wonder where it is coming from.

Siduri pours for you both and passes you a glass.

Drink from that blood. "Or how she became the way that she is? She wasn't bitten, I'm sure you can surmise."
>>
It would be easy to prove we are 1st gen, stay in the sun all day.
>>
>>32886761
Tell the tale as it actually happened. Theres any number of things we can do to convince her. We're at the very least on par with Kassa in terms of killing potential, though we just dont know it yet, so anything Siduri can tell us about what we are will be useful. So if she turns on us, just rip her in half or throw a piano at her.
>>
>>32886794
>Lets get her opinion on the other four, with a special interest in Octavia.

Ankou:
"He's a savage as well as quite mad. He actually believes himself to be the god of death. Sailing about in that wretched ship of his looking for wars or starting them. He seems to take great pleasure in meddling in my affairs in particular.

Arasces:
"I miss who he was but admire who he has become. He was once full of passion and power, like a raging thunderstorm in the shape of a man. All I could do was be swept away. Then he changed and became the one you know, no one has done more to temper our nature with wisdom and compassion than he. But all that fire he once had has burnt out."

Octavia:
"Poor Octavia, she was never the same after what happened in Carpathia. She used to live in a magnificient villa in Rome. I would visit with her and we would have such parties, they were the talk of the old empire for years after. Now I hear she lives in the dirt beneath a graveyard whilst her progeny dote on her. I've been meaning to see her to snap her out of it.

Uldin:
"He has always held himself apart from the rest of us. Before he told us of Mother's rampage and summoned us to Carpathia he had scarcely spoken a dozen words to me in a thousand years. What he does with his time or why I do not know. No one does I suspect."

>>32886795
>Do you know of the white tree?
"It appears in all of our dreams from time to time, I don't know why. Mother knew, she had a huge statue of it in her temple. It always made me feel uneasy."

>>32886955
>See if she knows Kassa's name.
"No, I've never heard it. Is that her hair you have tied about your neck?"
>>
>>32887482
>Hair

"Here," lift it from our chest, but keep a secure grip on it. "Smell it. See if you recognize her."
>>
>>32887482
Let's see if she'll help us free Kassa.
>>
I'm gonna call it here for the night guys, falling asleep at my keyboard. Hope you've enjoyed.

Part 9 will probably be either Sunday night or next Thursday. I'll post on twitter to advise

Will stick around a little bit for questions/feedback as usual and would appreciate an archive!

>>32887204
(I feel compelled to drop a hint here. Whilst you being potentially on par with Kassa is true in theory, she'd had more than 2000 years to learn the ropes before she started killing everyone. The firstborn have strange and unique powers, if you tried to openly and directly fight Siduri or ANY of them as you are now. You would lose hard, although they wouldnt be able to kill you, they could certainly confine you.)
>>
>>32887552
Thanks for the run, OP. Wish we hadn't dropped our heritage in the party, but it's probably not any worse the the other stupid things that have been done.
