/tg/ - Traditional Games

The barest hint of daylight is appearing over the aft-mountains- as September marches on the morning air is getting a little crisper and the sun is rising a little later. At half-past five in the morning, you and Miho take your morning walk to Oorai Highschool's tank hanger.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and, as you walk you're mostly just content to listen to the population of songbirds that the school carrier supports. Miho, though, has other plans. "So, we still need to figure out the details for the game against Erika." She states. "She gave you the when and where..."

we've had two planning sessions, we've decided on a strategy (draw Erika into ambush, in case anyone forgot.), and this tank is the ultimate power on this ship. I suggest we use it.

Hey BJ, what do you think of WTGF?
>>
>>32907626
I've only got the German's done so far, so here's my copy-pasted work:

Ratios:
(1/19.7230)=(x/82,500): StuG III
(1/19.7230)=(x/96,163): Panzer III
(1/19.7230)=(x/103,462): Panzer IV
(1/19.7230)=(x/117,100): Panther
(1/19.7230)=(x/250,800): Tiger
Once 1941 dollars have been found, 1.00 = 16.53, 16.53 being 2014 dollars.
Final sums (does not include cost of armaments, ammunition, communication, or ‘safety equipment’):
StuG: $69,143.89
Panzer III: $80,594.96
Panzer IV: $86,712.31
Panther: $98,142.42
Tiger: $210,197.43

Thought: Tanks are F@#&ing expensive!

You smile, already knowing the answer. "What do you think?" You ask Miho, nudging her a bit with your shoulder.

"I think you've been ready since she challenged you." Miho says, nudging you back.

You're good with that. "My thoughts exactly- When's the earliest we can do schedule it?" He shrug. "Hell, I'll do it this weekend if possible." You're ready, your crew is ready and, of course, Black Jack is ready... "It's time to put ourselves on the board."

Miho nods, "I'll see what I can do. Only other question is the 'where'."

>>
>>32908062

I sadly don't know much about the King Tiger other than it was a monument to all of Hitler's megalomaniac sins and a colossal waste of time, materiel and manpower.
>>
>>32908119
We did that in our match against Gloriana. Burst through a house to ambush their Centurion.
>>
>>32908167
And the later 1 vs. all practice match on somebody, just can't remember who...
>>
>>32908137
The Tiger II weighs twice as much as our Pershing. I don't know about you, but I don't think ramming it will be a good idea.
>>
>>32907821
>Urban- we can outmaneuver Erika in close-quarters.
ok, I've changed my vote, and I have the cost for the T-34 and the T-34-85.

Ratios:
T-34 (1943): (1/56.37931) = (x/135,000)
T-34-85: (1/56.37931) = (x/164000)
Then multiply by 13.79 to convert to 2014 dollars.
Final cost:
T-34 (1943): $33020.20
T-34-85: $40113.30
that's all I've got for tonight, if anyone's got the old unit cost for some other WWII tanks, post 'em and I should have the conversions done by next session.
>>
>>32908258
I was thinking of tracking or wrecking the transmission that way, but you make a good point. Dynamic entry and burying the enemy in rubble it is!

>>
>>32907821
>Urban- we can outmaneuver Erika in close-quarters.
>>
>>32908149
Short version, the KT Compared to the Pershing has:
+Better armour, better optics, lower (better) ground pressure, faster off-road speed, greater operational range. Better power/weight ratio(Assuming the weight increases from BJ's larger gun and Ammo, otherwise this is a -).

=Equivalent Gun

-More maintenance-intensive, massive total weight, mechanically difficult to service and repair.

In practical terms, the KT's main disadvantages are logistical and operational in nature, though it suffers disadvantage in urban areas or where bridges are involved where the gross weight has more of an effect than the ground pressure.
>>
>>32908843
Fairly good. The engine compartment was a bit dirty and the seats were pretty worn out, but other than that it ran like a dream and barely even had rust on it.
>>
>>32908431

You think for a moment as you walk- what sort of area would give you the largest advantage against Erika's King Tiger? "Get us a city match." You say a few seconds later.

Miho actually looks surprised. "Urban?"

You shrug. "Tiger's got better mobility off-road and better armor in a staight fight." You say, being unusually candid about your tank's weaknesses. "Our guns can kill each other without a problem- a city match gives us a better chance at being able to flank or ambush them."

Miho stops and it takes you a second to react. "You mean what does it mean for Maho and my mother?" She says, dropping her voice a bit.

You nod. "I've still got a sneaking feeling that this whole thing is part of some plan." You shrug. "Figure you've got an angle on it somewhere- some reason to go for it besides fame and fortune."

She takes a breath. "They'll have to change their view of you. And your crew. They'll have to change how they see Oorai in general- sure my mom can still say you're some dumb American gaijin, and that Oorai are amateurs and upstarts, but she can't ignore us anymore- you'll show that you aren't dumb or weak." Miho closes her eyes. "I don't know... I don't know how much of what she says is to appease my mother." She takes a breath. "So, I guess Black Jack's going to be on TV?" You say, hoping to lighten Miho's mood a bit. "Like... International TV, too!" He'd been featured before, but it had been a local-interest piece by a small, regional news channel back home.

She smiles. "Yep! It'll be great exposure for the school!" She says. "Though I think the match itself might end up being more popular..." Especially considering that it'd likely be a couple of months before the segment was put on Top Gear itself.

"What kind of reception do you think he got at Kuromuromine?" You ask- Richard had mentioned he needed both sides of the fight.

Miho stares at you. "He has to interview them?" She says, looking worried. "That poor man..." At that point you both break out laughing.
