You are Zhu Xing, from the city of Xu Chang. Serving Lu Bu and becoming a trusted associate of his, you followed Lu Bu to the Southlands after you became a vagrant force. Lu Bu's army destroyed the enemy warlord Liu Yao in the field, then proceeded to take the city of Jian Ye with help from your ploy.

Character Profile: http://pastebin.com/UTDjnUuX
Past threads: http://archive.foolz.us/tg/search/subject/three%20kingdoms/
>>
A month passes after the capture of Jian Ye. With Winter coming, the harvests are gathered up, the bulk of the peasant troops under Lu Bu's command and those Liu Yao's troops that surrendered are ordered to rest and recuperate, and plans are made to conquer the remaining South soon. Up north you are informed that Cao Cao attacked Tao Qian's lands after the former's father was killed by Tao Qian's men. Liu Bei who was serving Gongsun Zan came to aid Tao Qian, and after months of fighting, Tao Qian was killed and half of his territory taken. Liu Bei made peace with Cao Cao thereafter, and received the other half of Tao Qian's lands. Yuan Shao in the north defeats the bandit lord Zhang Yan through numerous battles and takes the latter's territory. Li Jue and Guo Si who control the Emperor are engaged with the Qiang troops once again led by Ma Teng.

You are rewarded with 100 gold for your deeds. A general council is coming soon to discuss future plans for Lu Bu's force. As a trusted second-in-command of Lu Bu, it would behoove you to be informed and offer suggestions and council at the meeting. You should gather some intelligence.

What information do you gather?
>About the northern lords, Liu Biao and Yuan Shu, who slightly border Lu Bu's force
>About the Southland lords and forces that border south of Lu Bu's force
>About the populace currently under Lu Bu's control, and their thoughts on Lu Bu
>Any prominent and talented people around the area that you might add
>Intrigue about Lu Bu's troops, officers, and their loyalties

Internal Affairs. We don't need a civil revolt and we're going to need domestic talent to handle that for us.

I wish we could pick three, but I think our troops and officers should remain loyal for now. We just won a great victory.

But what about our people?

>About the populace currently under Lu Bu's control, and their thoughts on Lu Bu
You remember well back what happened to Dong Zhuo when he did not have the support of the people, and think it is best to know how things are going with the populace. Disguising yourself as a peasant, you walk around and gossip around with the people.

You learn that the people so far are slightly weary of Lu Bu. He has after all come all the way south just to attack the recent lord and take his lands. What they fear most is that Lu Bu might start sacking and pillaging the villages, as Lu Bu did quite prominently when he served Dong Zhuo. The younger people in general admire Lu Bu and the stalwart warriors he has brought to the Southlands, and they believe he can achieve great things unlike the previous lord Liu Yao who was content sitting around living in peace. Numerous people hope Lu Bu can conquer the Shanyue tribes that typically raid the outlying villages.

>Any prominent and talented people around the area that you might add
Thinking there is always room for more talent, you search around for rumors of known people around the area. After a while, you manage to find out about three people you can hire, though you only have time to go after one.
>A large warrior know for his ferocity but generosity around the area
>An old, grizzeled veteran of war who fought bandits and pirates in his youth
>An educated well-learned man who moved to the South and is known to be modest and sincere

Let's choose a guy that compliments Lu Bu. Another advisor is likely to get Chen Gong pissy from having a dude who's essential purpose is to offer ideas different from his (unless for some reason they get along which for the setting seems improbable).

I was thinking the veteran, but Lu Bu probably wouldn't listen to him just because he's older and more experienced in battle.

I vote the ferocious warrior with the heart of gold.
Zhang Liao sets a good standard of honor for Lu Bu by being around him (I think?), so maybe this guy can teach our boss the plight of the masses (and earn brownie points with Heaven for favor).

Considering how fast we left chang 'an what do you anons think of writing a letter to Cai Yan and enclosing letters to her father along with possibly a smaller letter to the emperor.

We write to ask of them and that if they have the chance, they should flee towards us where we can shelter them.

To the emperor, we write our apologies for being weak and having to flee but that it would have been better for us to live rather than waste our lives. Say that we are gathering strength to march on the traitors.
>>

>>
Hey guys, why the heck aren't we courting and molding Zhang Liao as planned? We want him as our bro almost as much as Do Not Pursue.
>>
>>32909493

I disagree with the adviser assessment.

One advisor is not enough for one faction, surely Chen Gong understands this.

If he's so obsessed with his own pride that he refuses to work with another adviser, then that's a sign that we need contingency plans.

You should read Sanguokishi. It's more or less a concise manga version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms without the whole Dynasty Warriors flanderization.

>>
>>32909887
Not enough pants-on-head idiocy and secret societies to be Dune.
>>
>>32909921

No you can't

You have to know the personalities of the people we deal with and that means reading on them. Some of them too are especially famous too so we SHOULD already know some of the info by default which makes seperating IC and OOC abit harder.
>>
>>32909887
Yes.

Cao Cao is the Kwisatz Haderach, but we've teamed up one of the few legitimate super-soldiers.

You have been warned.
>>
>An educated well-learned man who moved to the South and is known to be modest and sincere

You got to see the educated man, who lives in a small village just outside Jian Ye. You pay him a visit, and find that his name is Yan Jun, styled Mancai. He is very well learned in civil matters and administration; something that is currently lacking in Lu Bu's force. After some discussion, he agrees to join Lu Bu's force.

With your intelligence gathering done, the day of the council comes. In a large room, Lu Bu is seated at one end of a table while you sit at the side closest to him. The other seats are taken by the other officers, Yan Jun as well whom you just recruited.

Chen Gong who sits next closest to Lu Bu on the other side of the table before you stands.

"Generals, let us get this meeting started, First, I would like to discuss making an alliance with either Yuan Shu or Liu Biao to the north. Our recent taking of this city has no doubt attracted their attention. Liu Biao and Yuan Shu are at war with each other, and both hold powerful domains and troops at their own right. We must choose one force to ally with lest they attack us both."

Lu Bu rubs his chin and nods.

"My eldest daughter is yet unwed and beautiful. I can send her to be married with one of the lord's relatives for an alliance. The question is... Who?"

The other generals shrug. They don't seem to care one or the other. Yan Jun states warfare and strategy are not his expertise, but his opinion is to go with Liu Biao, stating Yuan Shu is a villain. What do you say?
>Liu Biao
>Yuan Shu
No, the eldest daughter is not Lingqi.

And that varies considerably once you read how RotTK does it. Cao Cao just up and kills people because he's afraid of being sold out, but finishes the job after he's wrong because it was expedient and isn't really ever punished (let's ask Chen Gong about interesting events in his life!).

RotTK is both proper Confucian mysticism fantasy and historical events mixed into one balls-out crazy era of literal chaos and dicks trying to out disk each other.

Jing province is controlled by Liu Biao and Yuzhou is controlled by Yuan Shu.

Notice how far away we are from Chang'an and Xuchang
>>
>>32909346

So guys. Are we going to wipe the Shanyue tribes off the map and bolster our army with all the young southerners who are inspired by Lu Bu?

Because that sounds like a good plan to me
>>
>>32910357
Only after we marry the daughter and make Zhang Liao our best friend, anon.
>>
>>32910442

I'd rather win over the tribes to bolster our armies. Fighting a guerilla war is not my idea of a good time.
>>
Huh i cant go on anymore, dont do anything stupid anons
i leave...the rest to you tg(oh gods we are doomed).
>>
>>32910442
How close are we to Szechuan? I think I heard the most beautiful women come from there. And we can get hot food and another kettle to join our kettle harem.
>>
>>32910411

He had two sons. Youngest one was the bad ass motherfucker who didn't take no shit. Eldest one was the pussy faggot who just sat back and surrendered to Cao Cao.

If i remember right he was going to give his lands to the younger one, upsetting the normal rules of succession, but his bitch ass wife changed his will after he was dead.
>>
>>32910433

As a practical note, the "zhou" in Jingzhou and Yangzhou stands for province. So it's Jing province and Yang province and so on.
>>
We should kill the emperor and make it appear as if the Xiliang Generals did it.
>>
>>32910465
The Shanyue wikipedia article says Wu won over the Shanyue through peaceful means after a long guerilla war. How's about we skip the war, maybe bring one major chieftain to battle or duel against Lu Bu, and then recruit the Shanyue?
>>
>>32910483

It started infighting that Cao Cao took advantage off.

And so should we.
>>
>>32910465
Would the populace and normal Han citizenry locally stand for that? That may be a line no amount of intimidation could force them to cross if blood is bad enough?
>>
>>32910483

Ya got the two mixed up. The bitch ass wife favored the younger one and got him to inherit instead.

Of course, if Lu Bu's daughter is married to the younger one, that's the one we are going to support.
>>
>Liu Biao
Your knowledge of both lords are not that keen, but at the least you remember that Yuan Shu is a petty man with little talent. While Liu Biao has little talent himself, at the very least he is said to be generous man. Besides, Yan Jun has also suggested Liu Biao.

"I think Liu Biao would be a better choice. We can trust him better than Yuan Shu."

Lu Bu nods.

"Then it is decided. Yan Jun, my general has informed me that you are well-versed in literature and speak well. I would ask you to act as envoy to Liu Biao and arrange a marriage with whomever you can."

Yan Jun bows.

"As you command."

Chen Gong goes to the next topic at hand.

"Sirs, out next task is to subjugate the rest of the Southlands. As I stated back in Xu Chang, this might take some time to do. Currently, the governor of Yangzhou province is Wang Lang. He is an incompetent lord, but he has allied himself with Yan Baihu, a bandit lord who has ingrained himself amongst the Shanyue and styles himself a King. They have a few ten thousands of troops, so for the next few months, we must muster what troops we can to fight them. I propose that we lead two separate contingents; one to engage Wang Lang and the other to engage Yan Baihu. General Lu Bu should lead one force, General Zhu Xing should lead the other. We can thus separate their force and conquer the Southlands in a more timely fashion."

"A sound plan. As far as I am concerned, both of these men are pheasants to the slaughter," Lu Bu says with a wave of his hand. "Zhu Xing, tell me which lord you want to destroy and what men you want to take."

Who do you decide?
>Wang Lang
>Yan Baihu

Which officers do you ask to take?
>[Choose a few]
>>
>>32910479

First we get the army.
Then we get the money.
Then we get the bitches.
>>
>>32910483
Huh, I thought it was the other way around, because I remember Liu Bei being upset about him planning to supplant his elder son with the younger, and I know Liu Bei ended up teaming up with the one who didn't surrender.
>>
>>32910497
I'm open to any suggestions on how to do that.
>>
If we ally with liu biao, we get to secure the jing province, which is most arguably the key province be it for future expedition or resources.

however we have to remember liu biao's forces killed sun jian, allying with him would make recruiting the sun family much much harder
>>
>>32910527
>Wang Lang

Take Zhang Liao and Lingqi.
>>
>>32910527
>>Yan Baihu

We want to kill the bandit king and recruit all the barbarians. Lu Bu's not good at diplomancing.

>[Choose a few]

Zhang Liao
Lu Linqi
Gao Shun
Hou Cheng

Leave Taishi Ci and the other 3 with Lu Bu.
>>
>>32910527
We take on Wang Lang because he probably has a city and city sieges need brains to conquer
>>
>>32910527
>Sirs, out next task is to subjugate the rest of the Southlands
Man, Chen Gong you don't mince words.
>>
>>32910527
>>Wang Lang

Better recruitment prospects.

Take
Lu Linqi
Song Xian
Wei Xu

Leave the truely loyal generals with Lu Bu.

We handle those who need some care and love.
>>
>>32910527

Why am i getting flash backs of Chang'An.

> Wang Lang.

Let Lu Bu and whatever we have that counts for elites at this point take the bulk of the bandit forces. Chen Gong should accompany him so he does not fuck up his tactics and die.

As for officers.
> Zhang Liao

We need to bro it up with him if we want to pull off the Oath of the Peach Garden: Lu Bu edition.

Taishi Ci should go with Lu Bu
>>
>>32910591
We want Zhang Liao to be loyal to us primarily. Perhaps even do a Liu Bei style brotherhood with him and Lu BU.
>>
>>32910527
>Wang Lang

Take Zhang Liao, Linqi, and Gao Shun and one of the three LTs. Other four and Chen Gong go with Lu Bu

Muh Gao Shun
>>
>>32910562
>recruit all the barbarians
I think that would cause unified grassroots and warlord alliances against us in one action. Even at the Fall of the Han aren't we xenophobic about barbarians?
>>
A Primer:

Loyal till Death:
Gao Shun
Chen Gong

Extremely loyal but will balk at certain death:
Zhang Liao

Loyal if treated well and appreciated:
Taishi Ci
Hou Cheng
Song Xian
Wei Xu

Just something for anons to take a refresher on.
>>
>>32910579
Gongtai don't fuck around, bro

Cao Cao admired the fuck out of him for a reason. For all his protests, while Gongtai obeys the word of honor, he is also a ruthless motherfucker.
>>
>>32910527
wang lang

take zhang liao and gao shun
>>
>>32910648

We don't need to mix the two since the barbarians have their own territories.

However, if we give the barbarians fair amount of loot and supplies and show them our might, we could make them the backbone of a powerful professional army that would be loyal to only us.
>>
Guys.

Can we recommend that Lu Bu challenge this 'Bandit King' one on one? That way when he beats him because its fucking Lu Bu vs a dumb barbarian, the barbarians will be enthralled by his strength and loyal to us/lu bu?
>>
>>32910681

That's OC and we don't know if that will apply in this universe.

What do we know is that the 3 LTs were picked out for only being loyal if treated well. Gao Shun was left out of the negative characterization.

Zhang Liao has also followed Lu Bu for a long time and he's the third highest ranked guy in the army.

>>32910713

Yes, please. Tell Lu Bu and Chen Gong to recruit these motherfuckers
>>
>>32910571
SIEGE TOWER!

>>32910527
>Wang Yang
>>
>>32910713
That's his choice, not ours, especially since we'll be fighting Wang.
>>
>>32910748

Hence, recommend since we are a trusted confidante,
>>
>>32910748

But i mean, if we recommend that he challenge one on one instead of outright slaughtering the bandits, we have a chance at a Bandit Auxilliary.

We need as many troops as we can get.
>>
>>32910527
>Who do you decide?
>>Wang Lang

>Which officers do you ask to take?
Lu Linqi
Song Xian
Hou Cheng

Leave Lu Bu the really loyal dudes, he'll need them with the way he acts.
>>
>>32910741
You basically pointed out exactly whats on the chart with IC knowledge. So we already know this.

Its just to remind folks who needs more attention.
>>
>>32910527
When we meet Wang Yang we need to insult his genitalia.
For what reason?
>because we felt like it, not due to his name and slang in a foreign language from across the sea or thousands of miles of overland travel from the future
>>
>>32910803

Yes, but I dislike having to rely on OC knowledge to come up with the chart.

I'd rather use the IC information to remind people since we can be more responsive to characterization changes that happen.

It's useful that both IC and OC point towards the same conclusion here
>>
>>32910793
>he'll need them with the way he acts.
That's an excellent point. We keep forgetting our boss is sort of an asshole. We should let him keep people who like him for him around.
>>
>>32910841
Yes, but we need to court Zhang Liao already.
>>
>>32910836
Fair enough anon.

I'll take note of that and try to reword stuff to make them more IC in the future.
>>
>>32910841

I want to keep Zhang Liao with us despite that.

Taishi Ci, Chen Gong, and Gao Shun should be enough loyal officers for now.

Lu Bu respects Taishi Ci for his prowess and Chen Gong for his brains so they could keep him in check.
>>
>>32910713
Ask yourself this: would a lord and dude who styles himself King really go on a duel with Lu Bu who is known as the Flying General?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So far it is attack Wang Lang, with taking Zhang Liao, Lu Lingqi, and Gao Shun, and Lu Bu going with Chen Gong and Taishi Ci.

Which last lieutenant do you wish to take?
>>
>>32910891

Hou Cheng. He already appreciates us, so he would be useful to have around.
>>
>>32910853
Nah. Let him do his own thing.
>>
>>32910891
Who do we even have left? Let's just go with Hou Cheng.
>>
>>32910891
Take: Song Xian, spread the love.

>Lu Bu's entourage

We need someone who can talk Lu Bu down from Dumb Shit.

We need Zhang Liao to go with him.
>>
>>32910934
>>32910880

Taishi Ci and Chen Gong can do that just fine. Taishi Ci went toe to toe with Lu Bu so Lu Bu should respect him just fine.
>>
>>32910891
>Song Xian
>>
>>32910891

Hmm, good point, i guess i misread bandit king as dumbass who fights anything he sees.

Hou Cheng

Also, Gao Shun should go with whoever is more likely to encounter an entrenched position. Since his nickname is literally 'Formation Breaker'
>>
>>32910891
Nah, let Zhang Liao go with Lu Bu. Also, so what if the king guy won't duel Lu Bu? They're gonna get decimated.
>>
>>32910947

...Didn't consider that... SHOULD work. He needs more generals with him, though.

Especially since the army hes facing is 10k strong.

>>32910920
>>32910930
>>32910967

Guys, lets not take Hou Cheng. He had his chance for glory, now we need to let other LTs have a sht.
>>
So guys. What are the numbers of our army?

Because the bandits alone are operating in the multiples of ten thousand.
>>
>>32910891
>>32910920

Changing my vote to Song Xian
>>
>>32910841

>>
>>32910985

Yeah, changing >>32910967's vote for Hou Cheng to Song Xian.
>>
So, this is obviously OC, but I looked up Yan Jun since I had no idea who he was.

I'm already glad we recruited him.

"I'm only a simple scholar and I'm unfamiliar with military affairs. If I take up this appointment which I'm not suited for, there will be regrets later." He spoke very sincerely – to the point of breaking down in tears. Sun Quan then asked him to try riding on a horse, but he fell off after getting on the horse's back"

>>
>>32911104

Question

Where the fuck are Sun families?
>>
btw don't we have zang ba?
he's not supposed to be as good as zhang liao or gao shun, but from what i remember he'd better than the three lts we have now

>>32911206
I think A Zhuge Kiang would honorably off himself before serving Lu By? Not sure if he's too honorable.
>>
>>32911234

That sounds surprisingly plausible.

Chen Gong against Zhou Yu, Lu Bu against Sun Ce, that would be fun.

We still owe Cheng Pu a duel too

Pang Tong though... Surely the Fledgling Phoenix is the equal of the Sleeping Dragon?
>>
>>32911273

We need a cool nickname.
>>
>Attack Wang Lang, take Zhang Liao, Lu Lingqi, Gao Shun, and Song Xian
"I will attack Wang Lang. General Lu, you are better off facing Yan Baihu and the Shanyue who will meet you on the field of battle. Wang Lang will likely retreat to his city once I defeat his forces, and I know that General Lu does not like sieges."

Lu Bu nods and consents to this.

"Let me take Generals Zhang Liao, Gao Shun, Song Xian, and Lady Lingqi. The rest will go with you, my lord." You turn to Chen Gong. "Does this sound fine to you, Sir Cheng?"

Chen Gong smiles, and there's a slight twinkle in his eye.

"As long as I accompany General Lu, the rest does not concern me."

The rest of the generals voice no concern, but one speaks out. Lingqi, who had been sitting quietly rises and slams her hands on the table.

"Wait! Why am I going with Zhu Xing? I am my father's daughter, I should be accompanying him to battle."

...Speaking of which, why exactly are you separating daughter and father? The other generals realize now this part too and glance at you. You should probably give a proper explanation to appease both Lingqi and the other generals...

Seriously, Linqi's whole thing is "Put up or Shut up". She doesn't care about eloquence or anything like that. In fact, she probably hates it.

Too flowery, the substance is fine. But make it far more direct. We are not a Han court official, but a General speaking to his subordinate.

Lu Bu's self-chosen epithet is disgustingly flowery and patronizing? The man picked Fengxian as his style name for a reason.

>>32911881

I'm making the argument that all the other options presented are dick-waving. Nobody has been able to prove otherwise. Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes.

>>32911859
You're overblowing the issue. We have very few bosses and social betters that we would need to do this to.
However bringing up a competition in skill with your Lord's child in front of him and the other generals at a strategy session is like literally calling his bloodline a bitch for posterity.
>>
>>32911931

I think you missed his point if you think he's referring to "Fengxian" as the only part that's flowery.
>>
>>32911952

Why its dick waving? sorry not Native English
>>
>>32911927

Flowery is for diplomacy and for talking to our superiors.

We are talking to our subordinates in a routine military matter. We shouldn't have to even justify this, but we are not going to get straight to the point since we are.
>>
>>32911986

They make us seem arrogant, vain, and self-centered as opposed to playing for the team.
>>
>>32911983
Fengxian is literally a reference to the Phoenix - it's an explicit comparison.

A little poetical elaboration on a man's style name is a classic show of respect.
>>
>>32911859
No matter how long we fight with Lu Bu, he will always be our social better and lord until we either rebel from him or he dies. Therefore we don't call out his kid directly for ANY purpose save business and tactful behind a closed qr lots discussions.

>>
>>32911748
Why would you people want to insult Lingqi? There must be better ways to do this.
>>
>>32912210

We are probably the 4th or 5th strongest warrior in Lu Bu's army to be honest.

Lu Bu, Taishi Ci, Lingqi, are all stronger than us probably.

Zhang Liao might be stronger than us too.

We gotta git gut
>>
>>32912210
I don't know where a lot of us think we're hot stuff simply because we hang with Lu Bu. Lu Bu is the legend, not us. We're still in training and trying to stay alive with dfairly unbalanced stats.
We're where we are because of plot and Lu Bu, very little of it us in the grand scheme of the era.
>>
>>32912244

How is that an insult? If anything its stating we see her as an equal and important part of our army, necessary in taking this city we're about to go attack.

Whereas her father hates her fighting and directly tries to stop her from doing so.
>>
>>32912257
>Zhang Liao might be stronger than us too
Almost certainly. He's on Gan Ning's or Guan Yu's level, and only a little shy of Lu Bu.
>>
>>32912244

It's not an insult, it's elevating her as a member of the army, and not just her father's daughter.

Which, you know, is what she wanted the first time we met her.
>>
>>32912262
>We're where we are because of plot and Lu Bu, very little of it us in the grand scheme of the era.

Given current stat gain, its going to be another 10-15 threads before we're on par with any 'general' of this era.
>>
>>32912276
So if anyone talked to you that way, you would not be insulted at all? The tone matters as much as the message.
>>
>>32911793
We should treat her as a person and a general, not as if she's a dainty wallflower like Diao Chan.

Seriously, the more we respect her the more she'll like us. Lu Bu won't like it but he won't banhammer us 'cause we're his bro.
>>
>>32912294

Correction: Any elite general of the era.

We were already the match for many generals as a 18 year old scrub. I bet we can easily beat the vast majority of "Generals" out there.

>>32912262

For a 20 year old, we are pretty good. We could be a lot better though, particularly in terms of our leadership and intelligence.
>>
>>32912314
I'm still convinced that the "young blood" response will get both of them on our side, or at least make neither of them unhappy.
>>
>>32912296

I'd see it as a message that i'm taking offence to something i shouldn't take offence to and to calm down.

Then again apparently we're supposed to supplicate everyone because they're all dainty weaklings in need of coddling lest we hurt their feelings.

You are seriously underestimating the shit out of Lu Bu. And we're not his favorite buddy either; that's Zhang Liao.

Nobody and nobody is too close for Lu Bu to not kick their ass for giving him the slightest reason to kick their ass.
Except maybe Diaochan.
Lu Bu isn't insane; it's just that he goes for instant gratification and living for the best choice that's offered to him at any given instant.
Insulting him even slightly raises the chances that his choice of "leave this dude alone OR wreck his shit" goes not in our favor fast.

She respects strength and directness.

This should hopefully provide some context for our future interactions with her.

>>32912414
>And we're not his favorite buddy either; that's Zhang Liao.

You are mixing up Romance with this quest. Zhang Liao was a common soldier that was elevated very recently. He only accompanied Lu Bu on the pirate hunt, he has had no other interaction.

The glances of the other generals and situation has put you in a flighty, awkward situation, and for a moment, you falter. But thinking quick, you think up a response.

"General Lu has already gained glory in many battles before. I believe Lady Lingqi needs to earn her own merits, separated from her father. Taking Wang Lang's city is no doubt a good enough task for this rather than fighting mere bandits. Forgive me, I was merely thinking of Lady Lingqi as the rest of the generals here than Lord Lu Bu's daughter."

The other generals nod, thinking it sound and Lu Bu seems appeased as well. Lingqi bites her lips. One man however speaks up.

"...Mere bandits? Are you saying we have been given the lesser task?" Wei Xu says with a frown.

"What General Zhu means to say, my generals," Chen Gong says steeping in. "is that Lady Lingqi needs to find her own fortunes in battle. She cannot follow General Lu forever. I assure you, the Shanyue are not mere bandits and our battle with them will not be the easiest task. They are numerous and we have a tough road ahead, and with the arduous road, glory to be found."

Wei Xu consents and backs down. Lingqi sits back down, though she doesn't seem too pleased. You managed to be somewhat persuasive, but your words were taken as a slight insult by some of the other generals. You should take care in the future. (+1 Cha)

"In any case," Chen Gong states. "I ask now what Lord Lu Bu wishes to rank himself. We may send a letter to the court, but considering who controls it, I can only see them granting Lord Lu Bu the title of Magistrate. We can ignore the court instead and declare a larger title. We can go so far as Governor and General of Agile Cavalry should we ignore the court. This will be a monumentous decision; we either declare ourselves servants of the Han and take a small title, or we show the world that General Lu is the proper holder of the Southlands, but at the risk of offending the court and other lords.”

Lu Bu scoffs.

“What has the Han court done for me? I have saved it, only for the weak Emperor to cower before those brigands, Li Jue and Guo Si.”

“General Lu Bu is mighty, he should declare his own ranks,” declares Hou Cheng with a slam of his hand on the table.

Some of the generals begin to agree and discuss amongst themselves.

“For now, I believe we should act as loyal servants of the Han,” Yan Jun says interjecting. “While the Han is dying, the name itself carries much authority in the hearts of the people. Slighting the court, even with Li Jue and Guo Si heading it, might prove wrong.”

Lu Bu frowns, and he seems to dislike the idea of bowing to the court. The other generals seem to think the same.

In his defence, Sun Ce only had a small force then.

And Yuan Shu obviously wants the damn thing and was his employer in the first place.

Giving him the seal gave Sun Ce troops, removed the main reason for Yuan Shu to assassinate Sun Ce and made him happy enough to let Sun Ce leave his employ peacefully.

It was a staggeringly good move considering his circumstances.

"General, we are about to ally ourselves with Liu Biao. He may take think us traitors and someone to not work with if we declare our ranks without approval."

Lu Bu grunts, and places a hand on his head. He thinks for a minute, before speaking.

"I will declare Governor, but not the title of General of Agile Cavalry. I will send a memorial to the court, stating it is an action I must take for now but that I follow the Han. I will villainize Li Jue and Guo Si and make it known that I do not heed those two, but still remain loyal to the court."

I'm so glad I came up with the Liu Biao write-in now
>>
A few weeks pass. Lu Bu declares himself Governor, and sends a memorization to the court of his action. Yan Jun returns from the negotiations with Liu Biao with a successful alliance. It is greatly on part his diplomatic skills and negotiations that the alliance was made despite the self-declared rank by Lu Bu. Lu Bu's eldest daughter is married off to Liu Cong, second son of Liu Biao.

The Southlands are cool and foggy in the Winter as opposed to the harsh snows of the north. Lu Bu invites everyone to a banquet to serve as celebration for the victory against Liu Yong and his declaration as Governor. Some of the nobles from the area are going to be there as well. Now might be a good time to bring your family in and make potential connections. You decide to bring your younger brother and sister to the banquet.

As evening comes, you arrive at the banquet with your family in tow. The hall of the place is large and extravagant foods are placed at the table. Zhu Yang, your brother, proceeds to talk with some of the nobles inside, already knowing how things like this go. Zhu Yue, your little sister, is inexperienced however. You think maybe you should show her around and even find potential men to marry her, but perhaps you should just let her be.

What do you do?

>talk with Zhang Liao
>let Yue be by herself and let her enjoy the banquet
>keep an eye on her in case of trouble

You think that marriage right now is too much for a girl like Yue and decide against it. Connections can be made later on when you can determine a good husband or you think she's grown older. You smile at your little sister, and inform her that she should enjoy the banquet.

She nods, and with a slight kiss to your cheek, moves on to look around the hallway. For a moment, you get a slight fear as she moves on. You know Yue is obedient and a good a girl, but overprotective brother tendencies makes you slightly weary. You make sure no one you dislike goes near her.

You find Zhang Liao close by. You remember that out of all the warriors, he is likely to be the strongest next to Taishi Ci and yourself. You walk to him, taking a slight bow and him returning it.

"Greetings, Sir Zhu," he replies with an ever serious face. You see that unlike many of the other people here, he has dressed simply for the occasion.

"We will go on a campaign together soon. I hope to see your might on the battlefield, and to serve our lord faithfully."

How do you reply?

>>
>>32914253
He can defend the baggage train. An undervalued but important position.
>>
>Declare that you both will surely crush your enemies together and find glory
With your fist balled and putting it up in the air, you make a warrior's claim.

"If we are both to combine our strengths, the enemy will surely fall to us like weed before a scythe. We will find much glory and add deeds to our name."

Despite your excited claim, Zhang Liao does not seem worked up in response. He smiles politely and nods.

"I do not care too much for glory, but I see every battle as a test to my might. Our force is strong, and I am proud to serve alongside my fellow warriors, but we have much to go through before our lord can contest with the others."

You learn a little more about Zhang Liao. He is the loyal and unnerving type, keen on remaining humble and a straight arrow.

4 out of 8 since that option was an addition to the hotblooded option.

I don't care that much though. Zhu Xing is basically hot blooded when it comes to battles and deeds anyway. We don't have to maximize every social link from the get-go like this is a dating sim.
>>
>>32914414
Dressing simply does not outright state Humblness it Implies it either that or lack of wealth.
>>
>>32914417
None of those options were particularly conservative. Praising his might makes us look sycophantic. Lamenting the battle before it's even begun is just bad juju unbefitting of a commander whose duty it is to maintain morale and lead his men to glory. Praising our martial brotherhood is the most appropriate choice.
>>
>>32914417

>>
>>32914449
>>32914417

Of course, it implied humbleness. But the choices weren't so obvious.

Praising him was just weird. Lamenting the battle might have been the right choice, but it was also pessimistic and not befitting of a General-in-Chief.

The third choice was an affirmation of martial glory, that doesn't inherently conflict with his humble warrior image.

Particularly since he also said this. >I hope to see your might on the battlefield

Many of us also voted to make it a bit more conservative by talking about humble origins, so I wouldn't blame /tg/ for this.

There are many other decisions you can blame /tg/ for anyway.

Hey, why be humble if that's not who we are? You can't always afraid of others' reactions, you gotta be true to yourself.
>>
>>32914552

It doesn't punish us at all. And if it doesn't punish us, I don't think we can be ragged for being IC.

Even if lament was the right choice for [+1 Zhang Liao point], Zhu Xing has always been about glory of the battle up until this point. That was actually our character motivation that we selected in the very first thread.

Be honest with Zhang Liao about who we are and he will respect us more. After all, Lu Bu's not a humble warrior. Zhang Liao probably respects mighty warriors and chooses to compose himself in a humble way.

At least we didn't pick the ass-kissing option, which was the only objectively bad decision in my eyes.

>Ask about his past service and how he came to serve Lu Bu
"There is not much to tell," Zhang Liao replies. "Unfortunately, before serving Lord Lu Bu, I did not have any accomplishments. I was too young to serve during the time of the Yellow Scarves. I came to serve Lord Ding Yuan before... Well, before he was killed by Lord Lu Bu."

From his slight pause, you can see that Zhang Liao did not really agree with Lu Bu killing his own step-father. You remember yourself that despite Lu Bu's prowess, he has done some heinous actions in the past.

"In any case, I was put in service with Dong Zhuo and fought a few battles under Guo Si and Li Jue. I only came to serve Lord Lu Bu directly after Dong Zhuo was killed, and seeing his might, I could not help but follow him. It is unfortunate we lost the capital, but in these times of chaos, I believe our lord has more opportunities."

"Yes... Then we have both served Lord Lu Bu from the beginning," you say with a nod. "It will fall upon us to follow him and make sure he succeeds."

Zhang Liao nods with a smile, and you both briefly speak some more before moving on.

Soon the banquet begins and the officers are all seated. Lu Bu gives a toast to all the officers around, and the feast begins. A few hours pass, and as the patty becomes livelier, Lu Bu begins to grow slightly drunk. He boasts loudly of his might and how all the Southlands will fall before his army. Chen Gong at his side chastises Lu Bu in murmurs.

"Fengxian! You are growing drunk! Let's end this banquet here and get you to sleep."

"Nonsense! Don't be a sour killjoy, Gongtai!" Lu Bu says with a drunken grin. "All of my men should have a thousand cups of wine tonight and forget their troubles!"

"Fengxian!"

It seems Lu Bu is indeed getting a bit too drunk. Perhaps you should help Chen Gong get Lu Bu to bed.

So how do we go about getting one of those court names like Gongtai or Kongming?
>>
>>32914979

>The zì, sometimes called the biǎozì or "courtesy name", is a name traditionally given to Chinese males at the age of 20, marking their coming of age. It was sometimes given to females upon marriage. The practice is no longer common in modern Chinese society. According to the Book of Rites, after a man reaches adulthood, it is disrespectful for others of the same generation to address him by his given name, or míng. Thus, the given name was reserved for oneself and one's elders, while the zì would be used by adults of the same generation to refer to one another on formal occasions or in writing; hence the term "courtesy name".

>Get Lu Bu to bed and end the banquet
You look around with a slight nervousness. While the other warriors and generals should be fine with a little boast here and there, the nobles present might start to get offended should Lu Bu keep up his act. You move from your seat to move next to Lu Bu.

"General, come. Sir Cheng is right, we should get you to bed."

"Bah! Not you too Zhu Xing!" Lu Bu argues with a wave of his hand.

"A lot of the people are growing tired," you say with a smile and a hand to his back. "The night grows dark, and Diao Chan must be worried about you. You can have more parties after Spring comes and we conquer the Southlands."

"Bah, Zhu Xing ya little shit. I liked it better when you stayed quiet at the sides," Lu Bu says back, though there isn't any anger in his voice. He's just simply speaking his mind, and with your friendship in consideration, Lu Bu seems to have no trouble with your actions.

You slowly hoist Lu Bu up, and he stumbles a bit. Putting his arm around your shoulders, you both begin to move out of the banquet, as Chen Gong moves to put it to a close.

You and Lu Bu make your way back to his room. At the courtyard, Lu Bu stumbles in his walks and you have to help him up a few times. He laughs a few times for no real good reason than being drunk.

"Zhu Xing! I haven't really told you, but I really appreciate you. You've really helped me out, you know? Fucking idiots always getting in my way, trying to stop me from achieving my destiny. But let me tell you, once I conquer this land, I'll make you my number one general. You, Zhang Liao, Taishi Ci... and even that Gongtai making his schemes and whatnot. Once we conquer this land we can start crushing the foreign barbarians as well. No one will be able to stop our MIGHT!"

He taps his hand against your face as he makes his proclamations. You bear the slight annoyances, and move on to his room. There, Diao Chan helps Lu Bu to his bed and she apologizes to you for the trouble.
>>
>>32915148
Just ask yourself: Would I really trust /tg/ to manage my clan and its seat?

You remove yourself from the room, still hearing Lu Bu shout things about conquering the land and how he loves Diao Chan at the back. You stay at the courtyard for a while to see the other guests go home as well.

“What a foolish man,” a voice says. You turn to see who is speaking, and near you, you see a man in black garbs looking at the sky. He is middle aged, with a short beard across the middle of his chin. It seems he was one of the nobles present.

"And who are you, Sir?" you ask, turning to the man. You dislike his words, but decide punishing someone after a banquet and a remark is going too far.

"No one important," he replies with a shake of his head. "I am Wang Fan, just a simple scholar living my days here. But I fear that your army, marching in to these peaceful lands and killing the lords here and there will bring an end to that. You will recruit our young men here, march them to war and get them killed. Even if you succeed and establish a foothold here, you will recruit even more men and then march them northwards to battle once again. More wars will be fought, more men killed, all for the sake of you warriors and your glory seeking."

He shakes his head again. It seems he has no fear of speaking his mind. How do you reply to him?

There is a form of peace, in which conflict is swept under the rug while hatred burns the same, and there is another, more stable form of peace, in which conflict is prevented the hard way.

The Han deserve better.
>>
>Argue with him and justify your cause
"Lord Lu Bu is a hero, unmatched and peerless. He is the rightful person to rule the Southlands, not men like Liu Yao who sheltered himself in his mansion and lived out his days in extravagance," you state to justify your cause.

"Lord Liu Yao may have been weak in your minds, but too many people here he was a just and peaceful. The people loved him, and there was no justification for you lot to murder him."

You reply back:
>>32915480

To this, Wang Fan laughs.

"What hypocrites you all are. Basked in lies and deceit, is this how you justify your decisions? You come to the peaceful south, untouched by war. You kill thousands of soldiers, then kill an innocent lord who was beloved by his people, then speak of peace and restoring the land? If you really cared for the Han as you say so right now, you should have stayed in the north to fight against the usurpers who control the court. You should have fought to the deaths when Chang An was being attacked. Or thereafter, serve another lord and help him retake Chang An. No, you came here to earn your glories and make further war for your own selfish needs. I can see now that even you are nothing but a liar, and likely a sycophant of Lu Bu."

He scoffs at you, and begins to remove himself from the courtyard. It may be your last chance to throw him in prison, if you still wish to do so.

A flash of anger runs to you. Beside the point of him having insulted your honor and you, allowing the man to run free and speak out against the administration would certainly be a liability. Especially when you are going to war soon.

"Guards! This man has disrespected the Governor and myself! Take him away!" you yell.

The guards rush over to to your command. When they grab the man, he adamantly pushes their hands away.

"I will head there myself, I do not need you to touch me."

The guards grit their teeth, but allow the man to walk as they escort him. The other nobles who had seen the incident approve. They do not like the blatant disrespect that had been show, and understand law and order will be maintained in this city. Your decision was a wise on, as having allowed Wang Fu to go would have shown weakness in your force. (Int +1, Pol +1)

With the banquet at and end, you and your family head back home. Your brother made some good connections with the nobles that had been present, and your sister had remained quiet for the most part. She did get some suitors, which were politely turned down. At the least, it seems people know of your name and want to ingrain themselves to your clan.

Spring soon comes. Lu Bu's armies prepare to march out south, to conquer the rest of Yangzhou.

Gathering intelligence and the Liu Biao and Yuan Shu stuff remain classified, as the decisions there affect future things. But the other choices in choosing a talented people were Chen Wu and Ling Cao.

You guys made the Lu Lingqi way much more difficult than needed. All you needed to do was bullshit, something like, "I wish to see Lady Lingqi take on tasks herself and become a proper general" or "I believe we should keep family separated, as to keep the task at hand on focus." Unfortunately the whole part about "Yeah they're just mere bandits..." was a bad choice of words because you are slighting the other generals who will be fighting Yan Baihu. And as one of the other anons stated, the "Oh I thought you were a general not a daughter, my bad" could have been taken as an insult if you look at it with sarcasm. I decided to let that part pass though.

Letting Lu Bu act drunk would have lost some popular support. Getting him to bed was good.

And yes, throwing Wang Fu in jail was good. He was never planning on joining; he was there to point out a different view on what Lu Bu is doing to the Southlands and the importance of maintaining order back during these times. It's not "tyrannical" to the people who witnessed. Even if it means killing the liberal viewpoints we are given in the modern world.

Army Banner and Family Banner would be better.

More Pol, More Lead, more recognition in this war.
>>
>>32916391
Desperation is our standard operating procedure, because we interact with the person we're trying to waifu once every 10 updates.

That's not going to change unless Raian does something to make this easier.
>>
>>32916385

Gender dynamics kind of matter in ancient China, anon.

>>32916409

We won't have enough money for both. Zhu Xing's 3 month salary is 75 gold. I figured we can't go wrong with more WAR before a long campaign.
>>
>>32916301
Slight above average. In the world of strategists and rusers, slight below above average.

>>32916326
Yes.

>>32916343
Both Taishi Ci and Zhang Liao are slightly stronger than you. You can beat them given good rolls and countering them.

I honestly should have made a note earlier on that the quest isn't all about battles and killing shit. It follows RoTK/historical elements with politics, expanding your clan, building your base of power, making a story happen.

>>32916429
>with politics, expanding your clan, building your base of power, making a story happen.

so in other words this >>32916034 will be a better choice then killing everything?
>>
>>32916429
So with just a little more effort we could be on par with warriors like Taishi Ci and Zhang Liao?

That's pretty sick!
>>
>>32916429

If there's a large power gap in a duel and we are the stronger party, would we still prevail with awful dice rolls?

How do Gao Shun and Lingqi stack up in terms of strength?
>>
>>32916455
>implying we're ever going to go for the WAR options again
>>
>>32916417
Well we've kind of made it a habit to deliberately follow the more difficult routes what with choosing to side with Dong Zhou and Lu Bu.

I think it would be kind of cheap to ask that our romance with Linqi be made easier? What does it say about us that we can handle the most difficult of battles and political debates but can't handle a simple romance?
>>
>>32916498

Let's not, we are following Hard Mode for a reason.

If we fuck up, we fuck up. And we move on.
>>
>>32916498
>kind of cheap
Let's put this in perspective.

We had one interaction with Cai Yang that would've led to marriage.

We've been chomping at the bit to do anything to impress Lingqi since thread 1.
>>
>>32916498
It says we're a bunch of nerds that don't know how the fuck social interaction works. What the hell did you think?
>>
>>32916498
>What does it say about us that we can handle the most difficult of battles and political debates but can't handle a simple romance?

/tg/
>>
>>32916455
In terms of WAR and INT we are on par with the Wei elite five, somewhere near Yu Jin and Yue Jin.

Then again, those guys have high Lead stats, our's are mediocre in comparison. Personally, I think our choice to go with the city siege would increase Lead and Int stat more.
>>
>>32916513

And maybe cha.

If we can, we should convince the lord to surrender and join us.
>>
>>32916513

All 3 of those stats should increase as long as we don't fuck up.
>>
>>32916509
Just because we long for something with the force of a thousand suns going nova doesn't mean that it should be made easier because of that. Can't handle a little failure, can you?
>>
>>32916527
It sure looks like it's being made harder just because we long for it, so I'm not sure where you're going with this.
>>
>>32916498
Linqi route isn't even hard it's just that we're not playing it loose & letting her choose her fights.
>>
>>32916533

It's also been only 5 threads.
>>
>>32916545
Which translates to 2 years. There's a ticking clock here, anon.
>>
>>32916549

We are only 20 years old and we have a pretty large opportunity next thread.

Wait and see first
>>
>>32916545
yes that too.

personally I don't really mind if Linqi happens or not mainly because I want concubines headed by Cai Yan
>>
>>32916511
I suppose I was deliberately baiting with that.
I must admit, I've never really thought of myself as a nerd, but whatever.
>>
>>32916573
>never really thought of myself as a nerd
>is in a /tg/ quest about the three kingdoms

If you say so.
