With Lyle and his gang licking their wounds, you have had time to quickly recover your losses. With your eggs incubating soon your numbers will swell. Until then you have been keeping a close eye on Lyle and his remaining crew, who have been diligently working on repairs to their ship the Hel’s Angel.

Some ways away in your outpost at the crash site of the Clarke, Theseus, the Unity AI has “remade” himself into the Clarke’s computer. By downloading a copy of himself and all his memories and subsequently deleting his original self. The new Theseus seems to be quite comfortable in his new abode.
“If you wish to salvage my original shell it should contain many valuable resources.” He says. You have several workers take the terminal away to be torn apart for scrap metal. “However I would like to request assistance in repairing the network of this ship. Many of the existing terminals have been severed during the crash, and I am left with only a small portion containing slow processors and outdated hardware.”

Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!

I mean, it's not a super big priority for us. And we're still clearing the ship for stuff and safety concerns, yadda yadda. You know how it is.

Current Research
>Small land drone
>Large land drone

Available research options
>Lightning gun
Very slow: potential of failure and destruction of sample device
This powerful weapon appears to throw rapid bursts of highly conductive plasma in a manner not unlike natural lightning. The humans of the Union call it a “CIP Pistol” which seems to stand for “Concentrated Ionized Plasma”. From what you have seen of it in action, it appears to have devastating damage potential, but is difficult to aim and holds a very short effective range.

>Ion thrusters
Slow
The Unity drone is held aloft by a series of powerful ion thrusters that use the air particles around it, or stray particles found in the interstellar medium to accelerate and change vector in a highly efficient fashion. No real fuel is needed, only a powerful electrical charge. The only major drawback is that with the increase in efficiency comes a drop in overall performance and power. The Unity appears to have gotten around this limitation by carrying their drones in larger ships that transport them in and out of combat, and by limiting the drone’s size to a bare minimum.

>Cyclotron particle beams
Very slow: Runs a potential of failure and destruction of the sample device.
Unlocks Liner particle beam research
The Unity drone is equipped with four powerful cyclotrons, a ring of superconductors that use powerful magnetic fields to rapidly accelerate a series of particles to near-light speeds, which are each attached to one of the four main weapons. The cyclotron is both compact and efficient, but is relatively fragile as damaging any one component will disable the entire system. It also requires a short but noticeable amount of time for the cyclotron to accelerate a new shot. The drone fires them in sequence to account for this and provide more firepower.

>>32914540
Well you already have computer technology in the form of your thinkers. Same tech, different method.
>>
>>32914553
>Conductive armor plating
Medium
The Unity drone appears to have been designed with the energy based CIP pistol in mind. Layers of highly conductive struts frame the armor like a faraday cage, protecting the inner working components from electrical fields and directing harmful blasts of energy away from critical areas. It is much less effective against solid projectiles however, and is only as strong as the metal alloy plating covering its chassis.

>Oxygen recycler
Slow
In the process of disassembling the human environment suit, the thinkers found a culture of artificially mutated microorganisms. They were able to take several samples and have set them aside for further study and application. The humans appear to have used them in a small tank to turn CO2 into breathable oxygen, you may be able to do the same, reducing the rate at which your drones need to breath, allowing them to work in areas even a filter lung would not function such as underwater or in vacuum.

>Reactive armor
Slow
While most of the human suit systems are designed to solve various failing of the human body, you may be able to learn from their chosen method of protection. The suit has a thin layer of microfibers that rapidly solidify into a dense shell when subjected to dangerous kinetic force, both serving as a cast for broken bones and protecting against blunt trauma. Developing a method of weaving a similar substance into your drones would greatly improve their resistance to impacts and ballistic attacks; however it would have no mitigating effect on directed energy weapons.

>Human dissection
The two human corpses taken from outside the Hel’s Angle are, between them, in good condition and could offer insight into human biology if dissected and studied fully.

>Ballistics
While the ranged weapons of the humans are not unlike your own, they do hold a variety of projectile types. Study of this ammunition variation could provide new kinds of projectiles to face new kinds of armors.

Just saying, we should research anything that could help us research better.

I'll support this.

"Yeah sure Theseus, we'll have a thinker and a couple of drones do whatever you want, but we're busy right now.

>>32914572
>>
>>32914565
>Regeneration Tank – These large tanks appear to be designed to rapidly heal wounds in some way, and further research of the tank’s fluid and the mechanism of the tank itself should offer insight into its inner workings.

>Gravetic Materials – The strange exotic matter known as Canderon found within the Clarke appears to alter spacetime to some degree in the area around it when subjected to powerful electro-magnetic fields. While incredibly volatile, this material is clearly the key to Human Warp Drive technology, and research could lead to the replication of this technology if given time.

>Grape Shot - This strange local fruit bursts open violently when disturbed, hurling sharp barbs in all directions. The potential weapon applications are obvious, but research must first be done to increase the explosive force to be effective in combat. The name, you note, is from one of Lee's few entries into the Union black box during their stay on the planet.

>Fungal spores - The incredibly deadly spores of the ocean are a potential for further study, although grate care must be taken to avoid infection.

>Berry birds - The strange animated fruit of the small bush found in the jungle are interesting specimens. You are curious what a more in-depth study may reveal of the creatures, which seem to be both plant and animal at once.

How many days till the army hatches?

Can we study the lizards and the flying jets as well?

Sure, why not? Though deleting data ought to be a mortal sin to Theseus if he came about the way he did.
>>
>>32914639

>>
>>32914642
Right when lyle is about to leave, to add tension.
>>
>>32914617
The only problem I have with that is not having thinkers researching. How long would file snooping take?
>>
>>32914573
You know, you're right.
I'll think of something nice, but for now it will need to just sit in the corner till I think of a tech for it, but you're right, it should be researchable.
>>
Just dissect the humans while there there still fresh.
>>
>>32914674
how about, how unity shares knowledge?
or
you can use the larger drone research to help make super thinkers.
>>
>>32914512
send many more workers to speed up the tunnel construction under Lyle's ship. I do not want to risk them fixing their ship before our new troops hatch.
Also, we should lay more drones now that we recovered a lot of food.
>>
>>32914541
Lay more workers and thinkers.
>>
>>32914710
Ya that makes sense.
More drones and also more warriors.
Always got to expand
>>
>>32914674
How about instead of using the filthy inferior human tech to make us research better. We make it so the more thinkers there are the better they perform.
Kind of like the Geth if you're into Mass Effect.
>>
>>32914674
I was hoping to figure out how to crack Unity brains open for delicious (degraded dependent on dice roll) data. Theseus wiped the brain so it'd be silly to assume there's anything left to find, but study of architecture to determine likely methods for the future? Maybe. Or maybe not!
>>
lets double our amount of workers and thinkers guys.
>>
>>32914657
I mean Slow, Medium, or Fast.
They don't have an entry like the rest on that list.
>>
>>32914739
Well duh, we could study the technology to determine a way for our Thinkers to be more efficient. Data structures and stuff. Kinda like what >>32914756 said.

>>32914764
This too. I support this notion.
>>
>>32914674
Have the brains connect them selves and transfer their thoughts while connected, kinda like in Futurama.
Maybe even be a nutrient cost boost.
>>
>>32914776
We've historically performed dissections in relatively short order. Ballistics being an augmentative tech suggests it'd be in the similar vein.
>>
Research Humans and berry birds.

>>
>>32914649
You already studied the flyers, which got you the ram jet.

I actually meant the equivalent to a dissection, but on AI brains. So... whatever that means in terms of rewards. Increased ease of communication with Unity? Increased chance of recovering data from Unity 'corpses'? First step in Queen backup tech? Who knows!?
>>
>>32914814
I hate how they ruin Legion and basically made every character from ME2 a cameo, add a few useless chacters, change the original ending of the relays causing black holes, and making the star child affect my Shepard who watched a whole galaxy die because of him
they also brought back the reapers masters, that promised to rape every one after the war is finished, and made a protheon squad mate DLC only that is on the dic, hell they even introduced kai leng the cereal eating bad guy, or how lazy they were with Tali.

You reach out to the new Theseus, still unsure of what he had just done. "Perhaps later, when the ship is more stable. There is much to search through still."
You sense a slight uneasiness in Theseus. "Of course, I do not wish for you to risk harm on yourself at my expense."
Just as you detect his feelings, he detects yours. "I assure you, I am the same mind, for I hold the same component memories. Death is meaningless so long as data survives."
You are still unsure, but you take his word for it.

Your hive works diligently, and your sniffer watches as the crew of the Hel's Angel hefts one of the engine housings back onto its gimbal with great effort, using a small unfolding crane taken out from within the ship's cargo hold. As the day progresses you oversee the construction of your throne room. The frame of the room is complete, and your workers start on the more delicate parts of the architecture. A chorus of joy interrupts you.
"We have done thing for Queen!"
Your research into large drones is finished.
"We are almost finished! Very nearly!" Your other thinkers shout in reply.

Your thinkers come together and quickly resume their research.
Meanwhile, your Smart Bomb and Thinker drones are starting to hatch.

New total
12 Smart Bombs
24 Thinkers
>>
You know what we could do?
Harass the ones fixing the engines by shooting suppressive fire from the surrounding foliage. It doesn't matter shit that we won't hit them but we will stop them from their work and likely make them more stressed. The warriors should then immediately move as not to be killed by Lyle. Hit and run / guerrilla tactics.

We could even send in free workers to build trenches and barricades in the surrounding forest to provide cover for the Warriors.

This tactic will also make Lyle expend his ammo.
If I'm not mistaken we have few warriors left si we should totally do this
>>
>>32915145
More like 100% researching thing, minus the one for managing our infrastructure. I do wish we'd have a couple set aside for worker management so we could pull one for combat duty.
>>
>>32915106
will ir speed up if we send more workers?
>>
>>32915168

If we set the Smart Bombs to assault and attack the ship's engines at night then they'll either
1) Tear up the engines with their claws
2) Get shot while one the engines/ship, further damaging them and delaying departure
>>
>>32915199
The real targets should be the personnel, not the engines.
>>
Huh only 12 smart bombs
We should try to punch as many holes in to the ship as possible.
Our objectives is to destroy any remains they have on board and any research that they done.
So we just got to get into the ship as fast as possible.
>>
>>32915160
The day ends and you see the crew of the Angel retreat back into the ship. You wonder why they would leave themselves vulnerable when you notice the shape of Coil in the cockpit, no doubt monitoring the clearing with whatever sensors the ship may have. They know you are watching them, that much is clear, they just don't know from where.

855N 363M

"Finished finished!"
Your research project has completed, all they needed was a bit of help from their brothers it seems.

What will you have them research next?

by the time the bombs hatch, wouldn't the new warriors be ready too, making harassing tactics unnecessary?
I only suggest that because I feel like they might fix their ships before we are ready to assault them again.
>>

While the armor plating is neat and all, it's not super relevant against the enemies we're currently facing.

>>32915277
>Large drones
These massive hulking forms are not simply big drones, they are big land drones. Where once your drones were limited by the square cubed law, these new drones have new biological developments to reach sizes that were once impractical or impossible. This allows the use of much more powerful weapons and armor.
>New Adaptation
Carapace: Heavy Armor (5N 20M)
Simple enough, instead of using fancy tricks to deflect or absorb damage in new ways, you simply put more armor on.
>New weapon variants
Thorn Cannon - A scaled up version of the Thorn launcher, it is a bigger weapon that fires a bigger projectile at a higher rate of speed. Difficult to aim and slow to fire, it is a long range weapon intended for indirect artillery fire, however it is capable of direct fire, and is devastating when you manage to hit with it.
Rotary Stinger - A scaled up version of the Sting Caster, the Rotary spins several large barrels to increase rate of fire without causing overheating issues. Accuracy is poor, but when you are firing this many projectiles you are bound to hit something, and when it does hit it hits hard! Most useful as a direct fire weapon against soft targets, it is capable of doing reduced damage against armored targets.

How about lay 7 more shock troopers?
>>
Have the tunnels under the ship be detected?
Cause if not we can just breach the ship from underground and bypass that killzone they set up
>>
>>32915456
Wait change the caprace of these new shock troops to Heavy armour.
>>
>>32915378
Is this restricted to only large units?
>>
>>32915475

I think that's only available for biglargehuge drones.
>>
>>32915475
wouldn't heavy armor slow them even more?

>>32915464
Sure, that works
>>
>>32915464
The more shock troopers you have, the less benefit they provide over basic warriors for their cost because the benefits of their sensory suites can only overlap so much.
>>
>>32915378
>Small drones
For what seems like since the dawn of time, your kind have been limited in the size of your drones to what you can fit the necessary organs into. With some ingenuity you have devised a way to create drones far smaller than anything previously to exist in your kind. These drones are small and fast, but are incredibly frail. While they could run underfoot unnoticed, they could be just as easily crushed underfoot.

Small drones are unable to equip ranged weapons or advanced armor due to their size (>1 meter) but are capable of quickly moving, flying, or climbing their way into cramped spaces without anyone noticing. As close to a fly on the wall as is possible.

>>32915435
I bring dishonor on my house, I know.

>>32915475
Heavy armor is only available for large drones. (think plasma bug from Starship Troopers for size reference. It's like a house with legs that kills things.)
>>
Did we ever destroy all the ship turrets completely or were they repairable?
Cause that is not gonna be fun.
We already facing a one man army and gave him days to prepare
>>
>>32915505

Yeah and we'll have all of 10 in a couple hundred drone hive. It's not a big deal.
>>
>>32915497
Because they themselves are about the size of a medium drone. It would be like trying to shoulder fire a howitzer.

When I say "large" I mean "Xbone pizza order LARGE"
>>
>>32915523

They were never damaged in the first place, we hid in the blindspot of the only two turrets that can attack while the plane is grounded.
>>
>>32915530
Jesus that sounds good.
How much would it cost to make 5 worm drones, and 2 XBOX HUGE Drones.
Also how cheap are small drones?
>>
>>32915509
>Human dissection
an easy task for your thinkers, you assign several of them and expect the project to be done within the day.
You still have enough idle thinkers for more research.

>>32915548
I'm thinking using a cost modifier. x2 for large, .25 for small. That way I don't need to go through and re-price everything and it's easy for us all to calculate cost.
>>

We are going to have to provide a hell of an escort to the bomb bugs to get them to reach any target

Is worm drone a 'large' class drone?
If no, then it should be.

Also, large diggers and refineries and maybe workers too. That would increase the harvesting of raw materials exponentially. And large workers could be used to construct massive structures (if we ever want to do that)
>>
>>32915588
Worm drones are basically large diggers, designed for building and tunneling.
>>
>>32915588
Massive underground structures too.

Muh ant tunnels.
>>
>>32915587
You can see that Lyle and his crew are starting to make progress on the ship repairs. Your workers are slowly making progress, and have begun construction of the cavern beneath the ship finally. It will still be some time before they are finished, however, but the tunnel has reached directly under the ship.

>Use your Smart Bombs to initiate a surprise attack from bellow

>>32915622

Sorry, initiate a surprise attack from below? Only if it wouldn't reveal the fact that we're building a cavern down there.

I'd prefer to have them sneak through the undergrowth and launch a surprise attack from there.
>>
>>32915622
>Wait for your warriors to hatch
We'll do an all out attack, the bombs tunnel up from under the ship and blow themselves up, and warriors swarm while they are distracted.
If those still don't work, collapse the tunnel.
>>
>>32915567
So to do large warrior drones it would be like.
Artillery worm
Olfactory:Advanced (2N)

MandibleCombat: (1N)
Arm/graspers Strength(1N)
Legs/mobility Sprint (1N)

26N, and 40 M. or 21N and 20 M(if the heavy armour doesn't get doubled.)
>>
>>32915622
Ready/Hibernate our smartbombs in the tunnels but don't attack yet.

We'll wait until the warriors hatch, but if there's a chance they'll escape before our warriors can reach them we can still ambush from below and wasp harass from above to impede their repairs.
>>
>>32915567
>>32915669
How much Nutrients does the heavy versions of the weapons cost?
>>
>>32915622

>>

>>
>>32915622
>Wait for your warriors to hatch

>>
>>32915669
>>32915816

lets lay 2 of each just in case we'll need them in future
>>
>>32915869
How could Lyle prevent the tunnel collapse by patrolling at night? He can't do anything about that.
>>
>>32915876
The heavy hotter drones might seem like overkill, but sure.
>>32915800
So what would the upkeep be of the heavy drones?
>>
>>32915882
Not preventing it, being inside the ship when it happens so he has to deal with the tunnel business.

Or maybe that's actually bad because that'd funnel our troops. Nevermind.
>>
Finally here during an actual session! Mostly just been watching archives.

Question, QuestDrone - is the hex map going to get updated anytime soon? The one I keep seeing in archives doesn't have the crashed ship, or mines, in-construction second hive or the Hel's Angle on it, and still shows the abandoned human camp...
>>
>>32915800
As the next day dawns your warriors and wasps emerge into the world, eager to bring your wrath unto your enemies. Your new workers hatch as well.

New Total
Worker: 75
Warrior: 25
Wasp: 18

Your workers frantically tunnel under the Hel's Angel, but they are still not finished. You are unsure if the cavern is large enough to fully engulf the ship, but it is deep enough to try.

As you watch over the last of your hatching drones you hear a deep mechanical roar
"Holy dooly! She sounds happy as ever!"

"Fixing fixing!"
"Shards not aligned, need more fixing!"
"Fix more fix more!"
"Fix fix"

"Well get to it, she'll be apples at this rate!"

The engines stop their humming and the two small creatures dive back into them.

He will not be in that dropsuit if he in the ship at least.

Your sniffer watches as Lyle moves to the engines with interest, and then whips around, weapons at the ready. The others freeze at the sight.
"Did you feel that?" He says, almost a whisper. "There it is again!" He turns to the cockpit of the ship. "Coil, you have a reading on-" Before he can finish the ground shakes and splits open with a sea of grasping claws and gnashing mandibles.

"What in the hell?" He yells, his suit being pulled into the mob of chitin. His flame thrower ignites directly downwards, torching the ground beneath him. You can hardly hear him as his weapons roar to life, tearing into the dirt to the sound of a string of profanities your thinkers are incapable of translating. Wings sprout from the ground and the swarm reaches up for the underbelly of the Hel's Angel as your drones tear into the open panels and bare circuits. Lyle swings his weapons upwards, slicing them off the hull with a hail of bullets and sending their acidic innards spewing across the ship. Immediately the armor plating begins to ooze down the side of the ship and wires slowly turn to puddles within the conduits. Heuy and Dewy are quick to vanish in the maze of vents and shafts, but Lyle keeps his gaze locked on the sizzling hull plating, his face shaking with rage. "You fuckin want stains!" He turns to run to the ship, but is immediately pulled back by the weight of more drones, each wounded and bleeding. He quickly pulls one off of his shoulder and tears it in half, only to have it burst open. The others burst under the pressure of their glands, spewing the caustic acid across the area.

Lyle lets out a scream as his helmet slowly dissolves inwards onto his face, and he quickly tears what is left of the liquefied scrap away and throws it to the ground. His face is bloody and burnt from the chemicals, the holes in his cheek revealing the metal reinforcing beneath.

Your warriors move in, having waited to avoid damage from the first wave's acid and let loose a hail of fire as they charge towards the ship. Lyle turns to face the stampede and lets out a deep, thunderous roar that nearly drowns out the sound of your charge, and enters a dead sprint into your warriors. The impact alone crushes the carapace of one of your warriors, and as it moves to bock the next Lyle brings his unarmored forehead into the face of another drone, snapping the chitin on the head. Three blades find their way into the weakened armor plating and emerge stained red, but Lyle doesn't seem to notice. He brings his plated fist into another drone, fracturing the armor and sending the drone reeling backwards only to be replaced by the advance of two more. He jerks to the side as a blade cleanly slides along his skull, peeling his left ear from his head and he quickly punches the arm, snapping it at the joint.

Another stab, and another slice and four more claws find marks in the creases of the armor, tearing off servos and staining the wires crimson. He continues to swing his fists, streams of bullets and flame going in all directions and your wasps move in, diving from above. They pick at any exposed location. A missing shoulder plate, the forearm, and slicing at the head as they fly by in all directions. As the mounting pile of drones grows Lyle disappears completely under the shifting mass and you note from your sniffer's perspective that the cockpit is empty.

>It just shows, how hard this fight would have been, i think we would have lost 6/8 of our warriors and 3/4 of our wasp.
Inverse Ninja law? I hate when that shit happens. Even if we had rolled badly, we shouldn't lose that much of our troops. Our warrior drones are powerful. Lyle maybe be strong but taking on 10+ powerful opponents at once should quickly take him down. He is just one man, no matter how augmented he is.
>>
>>32916703
He had a drop suit, made for battle, and this proves right now that he can take on a whole lot of insects with out the suit.
Also the suit had a Gatling and flame thrower.
those two weapons would have torn through our units, until either he ran out of ammo or we damaged them, and then there was the armour that should have protected him against most attacks.
>>
>>32916703

Eh. Our warrior drones are strong but they're designed to die in droves. That's what our race's combat has been like forever.

Lyle, on the other hand, has been focused on making himself more survivable his entire life. I suspect that we would've lost fewer troops if we'd rolled high on an attack (that didn't affect his ship) because he would've had a good fight, realized he was outmatched, and made a deal like he does with the Unity.

I suspect this 100 (and our damaging his ship) have actually allowed us to kill him though. He's just gone berserk while we try to do it.
>>
>>32916703
He's more of a heavily armed and armored murderbot with an augmented human core.
>>
>>32916703
Lyle did heavy damage to us before he even got into the power armor. We're fortunate our bombs managed to weaken him before we sent in the warriors - prepared and uninjured, he might have crushed us on anything less than the 100 we got.
>>
The clarke drive would taken out everything within the Continent
Lets not see what the squid will do to us shall we

I'm actually betting that it's probably capable of in gravity well jumps, and that's how he gets out of the shittiest situations alive.

Your workers announce the completion of your throne room with the last piece of stone chiseled away. The crimson water of your spring cascades down around your grand throne like a hall of curtains, flowing into a river around the rim of the chamber. An entourage of workers hoists you into the air, carrying you and your precious egg sack through the halls with reverence.

With a loud bang a number of rockets let loose from within the mass of drones sending limbs and chunks of chitin arcing across the clearing. They swerve in the air before coming back down dangerously close to where they came from. The gaps in the horde close back around the human before he can raise his weapons, and with a swift slice he lands on one knee.

Your workers hoist you into your throne. The magnificent sculpture of chitin and stone wraps around your form like an extension of your body. It reaches from the ground to the ceiling, its crystalline design glancing the ambient glow across your form and the red water around you like an aura signifying your royalty.

"Coil, where are those damn turrets? Coil!" Lyle says between heavy gasps for breath. He clenches his teeth and lets out the growl of a wounded animal. "Burn in hell ya boneless bastard!" and he swings his fist at your warriors. It misses, deflected by a well placed claw and is immediately punctured by several blades. Your warriors twist their claws, forcing him downward into a kneel. With his right hand he pulls out a small device, but before he can press the button on it his hand is impaled and pinned to his thigh. He falls back under the wight of his suit as the last servo gives out, and with a gasp he coughs up a thick glob of blood.
"It-it was a good fight..."
You bring down a blade into him, slicing cleanly into the chest, and he smiles.
>>
>>32916798

Beautiful. This harmony...

So what are our losses and injured?
>>

Any chance of rushing our thinkers a bit and keeping the guy alive for a few days while we get some stuff assembled?
>>
>>32916798
You wanted us to do the throne room, just for this moment didn't you.
>>
>>32916870

He's got a functioning vat in his ship. If we could persuade one of his crew he might come back from this.
>>

I wouldn't mind keeping him alive.
If what the unity drone told us is true, we can use him for our own means.

and prepare for whoever sent him
>>
>>32916883

Indeed, very useful.
>>
>>32916870
I'd rather have him finished and be done with it. He's a pretty major wild card. He got his warriors death. Leave it as that and dissect for research.
>>
>>32916870
Why? He had his moment, let him die his own death.
>>
>>32916902
We could get a freebie, if revive him, but that depends on weather or not you value that over dissecting him.
>>
>>32916798
Your speaker arrives at the scene. The silence is deafening. You have never known the jungle to be so quiet, or so peaceful.

Your warriors quickly pry open the loading bay doors and storm the ship. After some time of tearing open containers and ripping apart bulkheads they find Coil lodged in a small air duct, his artificial shell discarded and his body compressed into a six inch tube. The Ceph flashes a vibrant display of yellow and green as your drones drag him out. They find the two Taidani twins inside of a power manifold, its innards folded around them into a protective nest of wires and power conduits.

What do you do with them?

>>32916870
>>32916880
This would be possible, yes. It would be easier with the help of the crew who know how to use it. While technically dead, advanced medicine can pull off all kinds of wonders.
>>
>>32916925
Have them revive the old fucker.
>>
>>32916925

We keep them alive for now. Try to decipher the Cephs language.

I support resurrecting him. He'll respect us, that's more than can be said of his other clients.
>>

just kill him and let him die

>>

Take them hostage, try to start working on communicating with the Ceph.
I'm still not sure what to do with the fucker though. We don't really need him since we basically have all the essential tech locked up in our genetic memory, but there are advantages with stealing and reverse-engineering human tech.
I'm gonna have to go with keeping him dead. I don't want to have to deal with him again
>>
>>32916925
Keep Lyle dead, and... interrogate the squid? Or kill and dissect I suppose.

>>32916973

Heal him with the Taidarens assisting, meanwhile task the thinkers all to deciphering the Ceph language.
>>
>>32916973
Should have made this a 2 stage vote. First poll for heal Lyle or not and then afterwards ask what we do with the crew.

As it stands now, it splits things up in an awkward way and sets things up for butthurt.
>>
>>32916973
It looks like the vat wins.

Your speaker walks into the hangar, flanked by your warriors, and assumes a posture mocking the stance of the first human leader's stiff stance.

"Your medical technology. How is it used?"

I'm trying to imagine a four legged mantis shrimp that's a whopping 5 feet tall mocking an imposing super-augmented death dealing Aussie.

12 for Kill Lyle

So for the guys asking for the 5 minute vote thing, you do know that all the votes are in the 5 minute window and that a kill vote gets cut off.

>>32917141

We're going to be real smug talking to his amputee self too. Does that make it more personal?

>>
And these idiots are not even coming close to hive or the queen or any thinkers
>>
>>32917146
Ohhh nononono. We are not going the Kerrigan route. You know what she did? She hijacked the Zergs! No way our bugs are going to let them be hijacked by an augmented Aussie merc which we never asked for!
>>
And the AI must never meet them either
>>
>>32917150
If we have to contain him then somewhere away from our research-scavenging outpost and away from our main hive would be ideal.
Like really deep underground.
>>
>>32917165

We've got a cavern right underneath him. It'd be trivial to expand it. Not like he'd likely be able to get the ship running before we came to murder him if he ever escapes.

We're still going to put the ship down there so no one that comes looking can find it so easily.

>>32917161
After we study all his augments and ship I consider him free game as a bargaining chip with the AI.
>>
Maybe it's because the sunlight has been comming through my window for a good while now, or maybe it's because I'm an idiot, but could someone tell me why we are keeping him alive? To use him as a mercenary? To taunt him?
>>
>>32917182
Because people are foolish fools that get attached to breaky things too easily.
>>
>>32917182

To taunt him, to find his employer, to interrogate him generally, possibly to employ him.

Merc. Scout. Intelligence on current affairs in space. Whatever comes up.
>>
>>32917182
employ him, generally
>>
>>32917182
So long as we don't make the same mistake as we did with the humans, which was to trust them to have the same interests as ours, we could handle this without fucking it up.
Besides, he can't escape without any limbs.
>>
>>32917194
>>32917187
Anything but employ him.
>>
>>32917187
>>32917189
>>32917194

Sounds pretty vague, but it's whatever at this point.
But why let him remain a free agent? We should be able to mess with his brain. Maybe 'infect' him.
>>
Now that we have dealt with this event, what do about the unity drone?

Should we help it and assist in what it asked before?
I'd really like to make it stable so that it can help us with research projects. It's not like we can get more out of Clarke ship anyway but raw metal
>>
And yeah lets move the ship too
>>
>>32917182
If it's me calling the shots, I'd keep his head for our third trophy. Or was it fifth? In any case we're keeping him alive for the moment and we're amputating him too. So we can dig out every shred of information in his brain.

And then we take the head off life support and place it on top of the mantelpiece. A fitting place for one so tenacious.
>>
>>32917200
>>32917202

Really he's most useful as a bargaining chip. The AI will be clamoring for him and his ship, as will the Union if they ever come back.
>>
>>32917202
We should hopefully be able to make a human interface with the help of the dissected bodies. Maybe then we can get a mind control drone.
>>
>>32917200
Why? Theressus or what's his name told us that he is very reliable. Torturing wont work on him and he never gives away his employers. While we may not have any missions for him right now, we can call him up in the future.
Perhaps make a clause that he wont take any jobs against us.
>>
>>32917204
Dude its already stable
We just really dont trust it right now
>>
>>32917055
The crew appears confused, but the two Taidani quickly nod and show you the way to the medical bay. It is a small, cramped room with several tanks nearly identical to the ones on the clarke. Your warriors bring in Lyle and as you strip away what remains of his drop suit you make note of the deep gashes along his skin.

"He is more useful alive, for now. Can you fix him?"

The twins quickly nod and prepare the tank. The ships computer performs a scan and and makes a diagnosis. Nearly every bone is broken, multiple implant failures, and a collapsed lung. You note several settings that spear to control what is and is not healed. Many of the implants operate off of the body's own functions, and should you choose you could shut them down.

You quickly set the medical tank to ignore the implant damage.

"warning, current setting may result in motor control failure."
Better to be safe, you think. The tank displays an estimated time, six days to recovery.
>>
>>32917210
I'd prefer we keep the ship and its drive as our advantage. Giving the union the Ceph drive in any way shape or form is a flat out bad idea.

>>
>>32917228
Why do people keep pushing this shit? We don't have any means to "infect" people. Our race has literally just met these kind of alien species, before this we couldn't even fathom the idea of beings like this existing.

We need a pool of live humans to experiment before we can develop this technology.
Just because you say "lets invent mindcontrol" doesn't mean we will be able to pull that out of our own ass
>>
>>32917245
Alright now that's just mean. If you're gonna do that to a man it's better off to kill him. Even most Eunuchs get to keep their dicks.
>>
>>32917245

Whoa. Too far.
>>
Oh and we should keep him isolated for a couple months before talking to him
>>
>>32917250
It's far better to develop a kind of information sucking drone/Thinker augmentation. We suck all his memories, then kill him.
And put his head on the trophy rack.
>>
>>32917250

It's most likely just one or two people. The one you're quoting has a point though, we're more likely to be able to turn him than the AI.

You dispatch your workers to start construction deep beneath the jungle. An isolated place to minimize the risk to your hive. In the meantime you place them into the ship's small brig. While you don't trust their own ship to hold them in the long term, a pair of warriors staring them down on the far side of the doors should keep them in check until they can be moved. Coil is still flashing bright yellows and greens across his skin, and without the devices of his artificial shell his body is slumped onto the floor in a heap of boneless flesh. Huey and Dewy have never been so silent, and they spend most of their time in the corner of their cell.

You contemplate a fool proof method of holding them, and as your thinkers finish their dissection of the dead humans mercenaries you have them contemplate the issue.

As your thinkers move to their next brief task you look through the new discoveries made in human biology. Their bodies are a sensitive mixture of electrical and chemical balances that appear to be easily disrupted, although it is clear they have developed all manner of technology to make up for this. You take note of major organs and structural weaknesses for any future engagements. The human body is a frail thing, but their strength lies in their technology. Still, with your advanced laboratory you are able to develop theories on all manner of chemical compounds to alter human behavior in various ways. For now they are just theories, but with a live captive making them fact should be well within the realm of possibility.

Your thinkers claim they have finished their design of a holding cell. A series of tightly woven netting and metal meshes should prevent the Ceph from slipping through, and the bony body of the two twins should make any cell for a Ceph more than sufficient.

Speaking of the Ceph, you have grown curious as to their language.

You find several small programs that seem designed for translation. Your thinkers quickly study them and while the translation is poor and clunky, it is passable. As you translate the rapid color shifts of the alien you realize that it is less of a statement and more of an autonomic response. In a similar manner as a human's startled shout, but with extended duration and almost paralytic in nature.

Coil appears to literally be scared stiff.

You have many things to do today, but attempting communication with an alien race seems like an important one. Your speaker arrives at Coil's cell and taps against the clear cell door.

"You will not be harmed." Coil jerks at the sudden voice. "Why have you come here? Why did you ignore the warning?"

You are not sure if the translation program is functional at first. The first statement is somewhat garbled. "Head knows, limbs flee."

You repeat the question. "Why did you ignore the warning?"

"Shell owed, head obeyed, limbs follow." The flashing of yellow and green fade into a subtle pulse as the more reasoned statements strobe along the creatures strange face. "Human lead. Head not ask, limbs not care." You note the lack of variety in the language. Only a handful of terms seem to be used for any one concept. The program translates it into English automatically, and you are unsure if the awkwardness is due to poor programming, poor language compatibility, or if Coil simply doesn't have a way with words.

"Shell. Head of Shell knows." Once more he points his tentacles to the walls of his cell, his limbs unable to properly support themselves as they flop about.

>>32917692
After a brief search you find his small suit discarded on the floor. It would not have fit into the pipe he had crawled into to hide, and was likely discarded to try to avoid detection.

It appears to be used more for mobility than combat, as it covers very little of the body. Small disks are arranged in areas as if to evenly distribute the body's weight, held together by straps. At the top is a large shell of metal, the interior of which is covered in diodes and small needles.

You decide to have the small harness sent to your hive's lab for research. The last thing you need is your prisoner flying around the room.

His language still seems confusing. He could be referring to an analogy? Some failing in the translator to catch the nuance of the phrase, perhaps? In any case, the "head of the shell" is what you want apparently. His tentacles continue to beat at the walls and floor, as if trying to convey his meaning.

Coil has yet to move, his tentacles lightly plopping against the floor as your drone enters with the shell. As your drone places the shell on his head a short flash of red pulses over its body. The translator indicates it is a sign of pain.

Several lights flicker in the room and you hear the low hum of conduits powering up.
"Local firewalls offline. Local pass code removed."
Coil quickly strobes a bright mixture of orange and pink, which seems to translate to both "surrender" and "cooperate". While it's nice to know, you find it odd the language uses the same term for both concepts. A sign of the society, you suppose. A moment later the loudspeakers come on with a hiss of static.

"I am only the pilot. I run software and navigation." Even when run through the ship's computer the synthesized voice seems to carry Coil's panic. "I wish to not die. I will help."

"Why did you ignore the warning?"

The speakers pipe up again. The flat monotone of the computer set to the frantic flailing of Coil's body. "We were given access codes to disable it's monitoring. We get them all the time for new races. The monitor satellite is linked to the Union, destroy it and they know. We set it to keep transmitting, but not monitor."

"Why would it monitor?"

Coil pauses for a moment, perhaps to take in the irony. "To prevent dangerous development."
