Welcome to Academy City. The time is late morning, the weather is nice, and the date is August 22.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you probably weren’t thinking straight. Still was hard to argue with the energetic primary school aged clone of Sparky that hung from your neck. Sparky was an only child so she was still in shock after Last Order, the aforementioned clone, had pronounced you as her older brother. Once the shock wore off she was undoubtedly going to give you a piece of her mind. As for Touma he was smiling. He wasn’t making a big deal of his scrape with Accelerator, the first ranked Level 5. What he was doing however was eating a biscuit. It was probably the posh kind. You weren’t sure what he was complaining about earlier then.

Your decision to take care of Last Order was made. Now came the hard part. There were several issues that you would have to deal with today. First of all, there was paperwork. You weren’t some big shot but you did have money so first of all you were probably going to get a forger. The next thing was that you weren’t exactly a stay-at-home kind of guy. Someone was going to have to look after Last Order when you couldn’t. Your occupation was also another issue but you’ll deal with that when you get there. There was also the matter of protection. Toulour did tell you that Last Order was very valuable. So many things to do, so little time.

>Let’s look in to that paperwork
>Gotta find a baby sitter
>Acquire additional protections
>Do something else? (write-in)

We're not planning on going off to do things that would leave her alone just yet, so we don't need a babysitter right now.

>>Gotta find a baby sitter
I was figuring Touma/Index could...
>>
>>32921513
Hehe. It's a perfect match because they're both artificial lifeforms.
>>
>>32921418
We could hire Toshino as a babysitter to help pay off her debt. We could always alternate between her, Asuka, and Misaka for babysitting and protection depending on the situation
>>
You know, nothing happened that would make LO actually hate Accel. Everything happened more or less according to canon, so she'd still have come to the conclusion that he didn't really want to participate in the experiment and was being an edgelord to try to convince the clones to stop.

So at some point, we're going to run into him somewhere and LO is just going to wave and say "hi howsit goin?" and Kyril is going to stand there confused.
>>
>>32921418
Should we try to disguise LO somehow?
>>
>>32921418
>>Gotta find a baby sitter
...Can't we find like a bajillion sisters to take care of her?
>>
>>32921513
Now that is an interesting choice.
>>
Should we try to help out Touma or something? Being a level 0 sucks, and we can testify that he punched Accel in the gob.

I know that IB isn't really an esper power, but he should totally raise a stink about it. If they give him bullshit about not producing a detectable AIM field, say that that's significant on its own since even level 0s produce measurable AIM. Try to convince the people that his thing is anti-AIM or something.

He's poor as shit and Index is eating what meager pennies he does get.
>>
>>32921711
That won't do anything. He isn't an esper and thus isn't useful to the researchers of Academy City, meaning there is no point in funding research to develop his powers.
>>
>>32921550
Don't forget Kaoru, she would jump at the chance to protect LO. And prevent our corrupting influence on her

Sparky snapped you out of your contemplations.

“So what’s on your mind aniki?” she used the appellation jokingly.

“Adult things,” you suggested and as she blushed you added, “Paperwork, baby sitters, that kind of thing. What were you thinking of?”

“N-nothing,” she muttered.

“Speaking of baby sitters, I could ask Index if you want,” Touma offered, “She’s probably really bored staying at home all day. It’ll also stop her from writing all over the walls again.”

“What’d she do?”

“She’s writing a novel,” Touma sighed, “And I don’t have enough paper.”

“I’ll keep that in mind then,” you replied honestly.

The other option was to have Toshino look after her. If she didn’t like it then it was tough luck. That debt wasn’t going to go away on its own. She also wasn’t too shabby in a fight either so she’d work well as additional protection.

As for the issue of paperwork you had two options. Leaving Last Order with her older sister and Touma, you slipped out to go find Heaven Canceller. He was option number one.

“She already has paperwork,” he told you, “But you’re talking about legal custody right?”

You nodded.

“Well, officially she’s a ward of Academy City, doesn’t have a residence yet though. I’m thinking of putting her with your old orphanage, Cypress Park,” he continued, “If you want that changed you’re going to have to ask someone else and when you do, change her name while you’re at it.”

“I’ll figure it out my own then doc, thanks,” you finally decided.

He only nodded and handed you a folder with some papers in them. On your way out Sparky and Last Order caught you. They were done bothering Touma for the day. He had another visitor apparently. With a shrug, the three of you left the way you came.

The time is now lunch, the weather is warm, and the date remains unchanged.

You settled for some lunch at Ahnenerbe. Hospital food wasn’t the best. Sparky fussed over Last Order muttering about her lack of table manners in public reflecting poorly on her. For your own part, you simply enjoyed your meal as Last Order experienced the wonders of European cuisine. You also managed to excuse yourself and call Toulour at the payphone across the street.

“Hey hey, how’s my second favourite Torikov?” his cheery voice was the same as ever.

“Who’s your most?” you asked.

“Your mother.”

“Haha very funny Toulour,” your repartee finished you moved on, “So, how much does it take to fabricate a new identity?”

“Not too much, especially since you’re a member,” he answered, “The problem is actually making it stick, especially in Academy City. You’d have to get past the Goalkeeper, among other things, but it’s doable. You want this to be airtight?”

“I would.”

“Then you’ll need to distract her in person,” he paused, “By the way, what’s the new name you want?”

“It’s not for me,” you clarified, “It’s for my new little sister. You know I don’t think I asked her what she wanted her new name to be.”

“Ah,” he realised who you were talking about, “Well just give me a call later when you want the papers done and we’ll set it up, alright?”

“Thanks again Toulour,” you hung up.

Back at the table, Sparky was eying you suspiciously.

“Do I have soup on my shirt?”

“No, just wondering what you were going to do now?”

While you’d love to pay Asuka a visit, that way laid Aneue. That was just asking for trouble. Instead you remembered what Toulour had asked you to do. Or rather, what you forgot to do. How were you going to fabricate a new identity if you didn’t even have a name to start with? This matter required subtlety though. After all it wouldn’t do to give away that did business of a legally questionable nature.

“I was thinking,” you started, “Last Order is a bit of a mouthful to say.”

Which was true, it was five syllables. Four if you went by the kanji name.

“I’m thinking of another name for her,” you suggested. “How about Misaki?”

“Absolutely not,” Sparky rejected vehemently, “Asuka will back me up on this.”

“Really?” you were surprised.

“I’ll call her if I have to!”

“Alright, alright, sheesh,” you turned to Last Order, “Still, if it’s a name I’m going to call you by, do you have any requests?”

“Misaka is fine with whatever you call her onii-san, says Misaka says Misaka as she is fine with whatever onii-san wishes.”

That was kind of endearing. It was also rife with unfortunate implications.

“Uh, how about Misha, or Mishka?” you tried.

“Real original there,” Sparky remarked, “How about Haruka or Minori?”

“Written with shared kanji no doubt,” you retorted, “Look who’s talking.”

“Why’s it so important anyway?” she asked.

So much for subtlety, you thought.

“The people in charge of the Radio Noise and Level 6 Shift don’t strike me as the type to leave loose ends,” you sipped your tea, “A new name would make it harder for them to find her.”

“Thought so,” she seemed smug.

“Yeah well it’s either we go with your homophone idea or a whole new name,” you continued, “both have advantages and disadvantages.”

“I could just edit their databases for you,” Sparky offered, “The public databases have terrible security.”

“I’m more worried about her safety honestly,” you nodded towards the young girl.

Last Order remained enraptured with the ice cream that you had gotten her for dessert. Sparky probably caught your expression. She was smiling at that.

“So you’re looking for a babysitter?” she asked, “Or did you already have someone in mind?”

“Yeah, I do.”

You certainly weren’t going to tell her about Toshino, at least not yet. There was no need for her to know how Toshino owed you some money. Nor was there a need for her to know that Toshino could go toe to toe with Asuka and still come out fine and that she was probably some kind of artificial human made from magic. The less said the better you thought.

“What about that idiot’s friend? Index-san was it?”

“I’m just keeping my options open,” you replied.

“If you say so,” Sparky checked her phone, “Well thanks for lunch and everything but I need to run so I’ll see you later.”

“Any time Sparky,” you replied.

Still it was probably a good idea to find a reliable babysitter. You didn’t have to decide on one just yet. There was little point in hiring an unwilling one. Though you suspected you could bribe the Index to do anything for some food.

Paying for your meal, you collected Last Order and messaged Toshino, saying you were looking for her. She replied with an address. It wasn’t long before Last Order started wondering where you were headed.

“We’re going to see a friend,” you replied.

“Is it my babysitter? Says Misaka says Misaka as she asks for clarification.”

You nod. Despite keeping quiet and enjoying the ice cream she paid attention your conversation with Sparky.

“You don’t mind right?”

“Un, Misaka can stay home by herself, says Misaka says Misaka as she attempts to show off her maturity.”

You picked her up. Raising her face to face you asked,

“Is that so?”

She nodded.

“Well I need to see her for other things as well.”

With that you arrived at the dorms. The nameplates by the entrance had one name you remembered, Jaswinder Kaur. It looks like the two were sharing a room after all. A ring on the doorbell and it was Toshino that answered the door.

“Oh, Torikov, what do you want?” she asked.

“I have a job for you, can I come in?”

“Yeah, yeah,” she gestured you in, “Who’s the kid? She one of yours or something?”

“I too wish to know,” Kaoru’s voice appeared behind you, “I wish to know where you had kidnapped her from and whether I should re-evaluate my ability to judge another’s character.”

You just sat down at the table as the owner of the residence offered the both of you some chai.

“She’s Misaka’s little sister, say hi,” you started.

“Hi, nice meet you, says Misaka says Misaka as she introduces herself.”

“Misaka-san has a younger sister?” Kaoru was surprised.

“So my job is to babysit this kid?” Toshino didn’t look happy.

“It’s easy money,” you replied.

“I wish I could,” Kaoru chimed in, “But unfortunately the Academy City Research Exhibition Assembly shall be starting soon.”

“Man I’d take babysitting those eggheads than the kid,” Toshino continued, “Can we trade?”

“Beggars can’t be choosers Toshino,” you shrugged, “I mean you could work the junkyard if you really want to but this isn’t just some simple babysitting job. Besides what’s the problem anyway?”

She exhaled exaggeratedly, blowing air out between her teeth.

“Fine I’ll fucking do it,” she relented, “I don’t have to like it though.”

“Uh huh, why don’t you like it though?”

“That’s none of your fucking business,” she got up and left the room.

The door slammed.

“She does like to be reminded of her past,” Kaoru explained, “Maybe she had a younger sister she did not want to be reminded of?”

“Well that’s just great then,” you sighed.

“Misaka doesn’t want to be a bother says Misaka says Misaka as she tries to reassure onii-san.”

“It is alright little Misaka,” Kaoru reassured before turning to you, “She might not look like it but she’s quite the obedient girl. Whether it is a result of her upbringing or her condition is up for debate however.”

“Or maybe you’re just good at giving orders.”

“Perhaps.”

Personally you could imagine it though. She may not be much taller than Index but that only added to the image.

“That aside I was hoping I could find some time to give you this,” she rummaged about for two envelopes, “This is for you and Kudou-san respectively.”

“And these are?”

“You may open them in your own time,” she replied cryptically before kicking you out.

Toshino was sitting outside on the railing, her feet stamping against the concrete as she swung them. Just one look at the envelopes in your hand and she smirked,

“Ah, another one huh?”

It looked like she was feeling better. You suspect that it was at your expense however. Still it was early afternoon so maybe you could finally get her hooked up with Number 3 while you had the time. Or you could go home, get some rest and put this day behind you.

“Tell me what’s in these envelopes and I’ll take you to the junkyard for some real work,” you offered.

“It ain’t anthrax if that’s what you’re scared about. Right,” she hopped off the railing and landed on the ground floor without much fuss, “It’s an invitation.”

Hurriedly, you followed her down, Last Order clinging tightly as you slowly landed.

“An invitation? To what?”

She gave you a look.

“What?” you repeated.

“Misaka is curious. Please tell Misaka what the envelopes contain says Misaka says Misaka as she pleads Toshino-nee-san to tell her.”

“Don’t call me nee-san,” Toshino practically snapped.

Seeing Last Order flinch was enough for her to draw back and huff.

“It’s a birthday invitation,” she finally said, “What kind of Godless childhood did you have to never have celebrated a birthday?”

“I lived in an orphanage Toshino,” you explained, “I didn’t need to hand out invites.”

“Oh,” she paused, “Well good for you.”

With Last Order still in your arms, you made your way to School District 17. You were sorely tempted to just have her sit on your shoulders and be done with it but it seemed she was comfortable where she was. The walk was mostly silent. Last Order may have ooh’d and aah’d at various sight a bit but it wasn’t really conversation by any stretch.

As soon as you closed in on the office you could hear an argument from the other side of the door.

“For the last time, no means no,” it was Number 3’s voice, “You’re not on the list so I can’t handle your orders.”

He was on the phone.

“Good day sir,” he hung up.

“Trouble boss?”

“Just a bunch of uppity buyers is all,” he got up, “nice to see you again Torikov. Care to introduce me to these lovely ladies? Don’t tell me you broke up with Kudou already.”

“This is Toshino Kyouko, she’s looking for work,” you gestured to Last Order, “And this is my little sister, Misaka. I’m looking after her for a bit.”

“I guess that’s why you haven’t showed up in a while,” he rubbed his chin, “With the constant calls I’ve gotten from the aforementioned clients I need some stuff moved and papers filed, which one do you want to tackle?”

The paperwork would give you an excuse to look in to who was trying to kill your boss. Admittedly he doubted you’d figure it out but then again you weren’t really trying. Then again you could use always use more TK practice, figure out a few things for yourself.

You didn’t quite want to leave Last Order alone just yet so you opted to stay in the office. Number 3 went off with Toshino to show her the ropes. You sat down. The current papers on the desk weren’t too numerous but it required you to match it to the inventory and double check the accounts, among other things. It was tedious but the faster you got it done the faster you could actually look through the records. Well, to be fair you were looking through them a lot already. It was a matter of time before you found some sort of pattern. The junkyard had many clients. Hell your name was there. They ranged from school child to even the mightiest corporations. Still it was mostly one off purchases, maybe a few repeats but not too much.

Which was why STUDY Corporation was such an oddity, you thought. Months ago they bought up a lot of junk parts that didn’t make sense when looked at in isolation. Hydraulic pistons, actuators, motors, metal panels, good old nuts and bolts, even bullet proof glass. If it weren’t for the small note of where said items came from in the first place you’d never guess they were being recycled. It was weird then when their purchases changed from left over parts to specifically commissioned ones. You recall Number 3 asking you to machine out some metal tube casings but you didn’t know it was for them until now. They were up to something. With the whole of their transaction history, almost half of their requests had been denied. They exceeded their quota. Their transactions had only increased lately as well. It was suspicious.

Still it was just a suspicion. A potential lead was better than none however so you could probably hit up Toulour for more information later. With work more or less done you took Last Order home and settled in for the night.

ask her if she has anything she or her network wants to do? School? Work?
>>
The time is now morning, the weather is quite pleasant, and the date is now August 23.

It was a Friday, though you’re not sure why that thought came to you. It wasn’t like you could go out drinking, at least legally. Besides you had Last Order to think of. While your morning routine was eerily similar, just her presence was enough to through you off. It wasn’t like you could make her waffles every morning. She wasn’t too much of a sweet tooth, even for a kid. There weren’t too many things on the agenda today. First of all, you had to look in to STUDY. Second, you wanted to check in with school about your field trip in September. Both of these would require you to drop off Last Order with Toshino for a while. Given what she felt about little sisters you were hesitant to do that. The only other option was to leave her with Index. You’re not sure if that was much better.

If you wanted to do something with Last Order then it would be definitely be gift shopping for Kaoru’s birthday. She had handed you an invitation, in an envelope and handwritten in cursive no less, and you were attending. If anything it’d be one of the nicest things you’ve done for her since, well, since you knew her. You also had to hand an invitation to Asuka so you could definitely make an outing of today. Before that you weren’t even sure if Last Order, or the Misaka Network for that matter, wanted to do anything. While they had just survived the Level 6 Shift, you think it’d be nice if they got to do something they wanted for once.

If Last Order didn’t feel like being dragged around to do things then she certainly was being quiet about it. She was fascinated experiencing new things you supposed. Most children were curious. Most children weren’t clones that were grown in a tank and subjected to accelerated learning through Testament though. That and the Misaka Network liked sharing apparently.

Asuka, while aware of Last Order, had not seen nor met the child since your little job for Nunotaba. You feared the worst.

“Good morning dear,” she greeted, “and good morning to you too little one.”

Last Order was stunned. You think she whispered, “pretty,” before snapping out of it.

“I am Kudou Asuka, Kyril’s girlfriend,” she continued, “You will address me as Kudou-sama.”

“Yes, Kudou-sama, says Misaka says Misaka as she is enthralled by Kudou-sama.”

“Hey, no hypnotising Last Order,” you objected.

“No, no, it isn’t like that onii-san. Misaka simply cannot believe you could have a girlfriend this pretty, says Misaka says Misaka as she corrects herself.”

You gave her a fake frown. Asuka laughed. You also gave Asuka the invitation to Kaoru’s birthday party. It was scheduled for August 25. That was two days away.

“Honestly, that is just like her to use this kind of stationary,” Asuka commented, “And the way she writes is so formal.”

You shrugged at that.

“Still, I find it hard to shop for a Sikh. I know what you are thinking dear and I would like you to think very carefully about what you were going to buy.”

Well normally you’d just get some alcohol but then again she was Judgement.

“It is not because she is Judgement. It is because her faith requires her to not intoxicate herself,” Asuka explained.

“I knew that,” you lied.

“Your petty deceptions are as always amusing,” she replied.

What do you get for Kaoru’s birthday?

I don't think a copy would be a good gift for a birthday. It would be far too embarassing for her.

Briefly, you considered getting her an autographed copy of the latest volume of Fowl Gods. There were several problems with that. One, you threw your copy away, two she probably had one at this point, and three it was not appropriate seeing as Last Order was with you. That the present might have embarrassed Kaoru was of no concern. It didn’t look like she cared either way.

Last Order held both your and Asuka’s hands as you wandered the shopping districts, wondering what to get Kaoru.

“Perfume? Really dear? Would you like to send her a shirt with the words, ‘U-Reek-A’, to her as well?”

So that was out.

“A necklace? Well I suppose that is fitting, as long as it cannot be construed as an idol. Let us keep that in mind for now.”

You tried another shot.

“Chocolate, what a safe choice. I am glad you did not include flowers.”

“Why is that?”

“Well I suppose I can make peace with my first being a ménage à trois.”

“A what?”

“Never mind that dear,” she dismissed the topic, “Is that all you could think of?”

“Honestly I don’t know her that well,” you were somewhat distressed by that fact, “You know her better than I do.”

“I do. It is hard to be more intimate than attempting to beat each other unconscious. Come now, I am sure you could get her something practical, something that saw everyday use, if you put your mind to it. Mayhap you could even prepare it for her yourself.”

Before you could think of what Asuka was talking about she brought you to a familiar store.

“I was thinking to get her a weapon so that she may at least be able to reach me the next time we clash.”

She had commissioned a Khanda. It was the sword, not the symbol. For your part, you settled on,

Last Order, being as helpful as ever, suggested a ring, or at least one of the Misaka sisters did. She had no idea why though and you thanked her, them, for the thoughtfulness. In the end you went for the necklace. Though you searched your brain for the better part of the morning, you couldn’t think of anything else. Asuka made no comment at your acquisition. Lunch was similarly relaxed. Last Order as ever was amazed by the new culinary delight presented to her. You and Asuka on the other hand got caught up with each other.

“I daresay it was a smart move to not have named her Misaki,” she sipped her tea, “I am afraid I would not be able to forgive you then.”

“Good for me then,” you were relieved, “Still, I don’t see why you’d want to fight Accelerator.”

“Why does one not want to fight Accelerator? Rumours of his defeat at the hands of a Level 0 only grow,” she argued, “And besides, those buffoons will fight him for their pride, reputation, or some immaterial reward. Myself? I fight for the fight itself.”

“Misaka thinks that Kudou-sama would be a change of pace for him, says Misaka says Misaka as she adds her own opinion.”

“See? Even the little one agrees,” you only sighed in response, “As for your issue regarding protection, why not construct your own fortification? It is not like you lack for money.”

“Now there’s a thought.”

“I am sure your friend Toulour has safe houses for sale.”

“Our very own place huh?” you mused, “I’m worried you may ulterior motives.”

“Kyril Torikov, perish the thought,” your girlfriend smiled.

Guys, she repeats her name twice for every sentence she says.

Anything other than Misaka isn't going to hold up.
>>
>>32933487
then why bother having a name change?

Seriously, 7 votes for the post before name change.
89 votes for name change.

I feel a little embarrassed voting now, though. Feels so samefag in this thread.

But we will call her Mishka.

I-Is it over?
>>
>>32934239
To be fair, I did fall asleep in the middle of the thread, so even though I had to vote almost three hours later, that doesn't mean samefagging per se. There really isn't any particular way to determine how many votes were genuine, and I could also believe somebody linked the thread somewhere else so that a bunch of people would come in here to throw around their two cents on the name decision.

>>32934276
I'm pretty sure it was just two-four autists going at
>>
>>32934405
just ask the little slut for her opinion you autists.
>>
>>32934439
they did

she said she's cool with whatever... this could have all been avoided if she put her foot down...

oh well
>>
>>32934452
seriously this quest was on top of my page for ages previously.
I'm now interested in catching up
>>
>>32934469
its pretty fun, barring the occasional bouts of samefagging (I've never seen it so bad ever before tonight...) and that Bored takes 40 mins minimum to update.

closest thing there is to a bank robber quest and a pretty great waifu.
>>
>>32934405
You missed my vote for Mishka, by the way.
>>
>>32934568
Yes, thank you for all your hard work.

poor bored
