“Let’s go fast,” you agree, pushing yourself off the bench and mounting your (Rowan’s) bike. Ro takes off in a rollerblader’s sprint, and you grind your gears in pursuit.

Reeber sees your departure and ditches his makeshift pack to run along behind you.

Maybe if like, two or three people were in danger, you could just isolate it and put it out of your mind. However, the looming threat of a literal invasion from hell sparks your imagination – as it does your fears. What kind of stuff is even in an organized legion of demons? Like, demons trained to fight and kill people, rather than the glorified gangsters you’ve been putting up with. The best you can think of is a hundred Ranthix’s, all with their M60’s and crazed blood thirst. Except. Instead of coming after you, they’d be going after everybody everywhere.
>>
>>32922182

That would be very bad. And if you’re not clever enough, maybe you won’t be able to help Isaac prevent it from happening. (+13 Stress: 58/100)

“We’re not going fast enough!” you shout to Rowan. You pick up the pace and pass her. Yet, she manages to keep pace. Man, she must be damn good on those rollerblades to be going at this speed. The super reflexes and angelic stamina probably don’t hurt much.

The park ends at the road in front of you. Cars whoosh by going in both directions. “Let’s do something dangerous!” Ro yells.

You feel the adrenaline of impending recreational danger start pouring into your system. (-3 Stress: 55/100)

Something I gotta ask about Shadow Sight.
>While shadow sight is active (or is not actively being suppressed) Sierra's corneas are black.

Is that supposed to be "sclera"(whites of her eyes) and not "cornea"? Because her cornea turning black wouldn't really look inhuman. It would just look like her irises are as black as her pupils, and some people have that.
>>
>>32922567
Going by the tiny exploitable pic Languid showed, it seemed like her irises become white (pale?) and her sclera - like you said - become black.
>>
You bust out of the park at breakneck speed. You blast by some dude eating an ice-cream cone, Rowan dodging by on the other side, and then you hit the road.

Six lanes of traffic. Moderate to heavy traffic. You scream with laughter as Rowan lets out a long shout of panic and/or pure excitement. Time seems to slow down as you go, allowing you enough time to swerve about so that you don’t bounce off somebody’s bumper or get flattened.

And then you’re on the other side. The sidewalk continues, and so the two of you increase speed, weaving about bewildered and shrieking pedestrians until you reach a flight of stairs.

This is crazy. “This is crazy!” you say. But you’ve already flown off the top landing. A guy a several feet down from you sees the incoming tread of your wheel, and dives to the ground. You clear him by a couple inches and come down on the sidewalk below, with Rowan grinding down the handrail and leaping to the pavement beside you.

Rowan’s eyes are wider than you’ve ever seen them before ever. “That was crazy!” she shouts in correction, as the two of you take off down the streets.

---

“So… are you okay?” Ro asks through heaving breaths, crouching and wheeling over to you. She stops, and then collapses backward so that she’s sitting. She lets her head hang backward and closes her eyes, almost gasping for air.
>>
>>32922967

People walk around the two of you, trying not to look at what probably appears to be a horrific bicycle accident. You finish picking the gravel out of your wrists, which have been bloodied along with your jeans, which have had the knees torn out of them. The bones in your arms hurt, but that’s to be expected when you execute a flying front-flip after running into a bench while going at breakneck bicycle speed. (HP: 21/25)

“Nothing ain’t… broke that’s not going to… be fine tomorrow,” you say, gasping for air between the words. You grit your teeth at the sharp sting of pain that hits your knees when you get to your feet, and the other flares of pain when your sweat runs into your wounds. The familiar scent of your own blood you like a refreshing breeze, though. You brush yourself off and look back at your ride. The front wheel’s crumpled in fairly radically. “Except. maybe the bike,” you add. “Whoops.”

“No,” says Rowan, “I meant, as in, are you ‘okay’ okay.”

Riding around doing inadvisable things for the past fifteen minutes has done a good job of making you not be uncool. Like, it was cool, but also the building pressure of fear and tension has thankfully subsided for the time being, combatted effectively with adrenaline and physical exertion. (Stress: 52/100)
>>
>>32922991

“We worked it out,” you answer. You take a seat on the bench you crashed on, and the two of you sit in mutual quiet as you try to catch your breath. Reeber comes patting up behind you a couple seconds later. “Huh. Thought we lost you at the overpass,” you say.

Reeber collapses at your feet. Wow, even Reeber’s tired.

Your breathing is heavy, and your muscles burn, which is a testament to just how wild your joyride was – you’ve been pretty hardcore lately with how much physical punishment you can take. You’re even tougher than Rowan, though she’s still got you on strength.

Well, that’s one way to fix a problem, you think to yourself, grinning to yourself. Your shirt’s drenched and you feel disgusting. But it’s a disgusting you’ve earned. Even the impending threat of a local apocalypse isn’t worrying you right now. You’re too exhausted to care.

You lie down on the bench and stare at the sky. “Sorry about your bike,” you say.

“Better a bike than… a person,” Rowan says.

She’s right, of course. She’d probably get all self-righteous if you tried to offer to replace it or something, so you let it slide, and instead share with her an observation. “I break things a lot.”

“Yep,” says Ro. It’s not really judgmental or anything, just passive acknowledgement.

“You know,” you say, “if like. San Fransisco doesn’t get burned down,” you pause to breath, “we should take your friends and get blasted. Like. Absolutely hammered.”

“Is that a good idea with… you know, you?” she asks.

“Probably not,” you say. But that doesn’t mean you’re dismissing the idea. “Hey Rowan?” you ask, another thought coming to mind.

“What?”

“You’re pretty cool, you know,” you tell her.

This elicits a tired laugh from her. “Figured that out just now?”

“Well. No,” you say. “I’m just saying it right now.”

“Well you’re cool too. Just, y’know, not as cool as me.”

“Yeah whatever,” you say, smiling to yourself. You close your eyes. (-3 Stress: 50/100) “Let’s take the bus home.”

Rowan makes a wordless sound of agreement.

--

That night, you’re slouching around Rowan’s room with Rowan, trying to figure out your Russian homework while Rowan plays guitar. “Mnye skoochna,” you say, tossing your grammar textbook aside for the time being.
>>
>>32923630

“What’s that mean?” Ro asks, looking up from her musics.

“I’m bored,” you translate for her. “So like. I know how to say that, and how to say I’m hungry, and then how to ask where the bank is.”

“So you’re ready to go to Russia then?” she asks.

“Pretty much,” you surmise, running a finger thoughtfully along one of your horns.

Rowan doesn’t reply, but from the way she pauses, you can tell she’s thinking about something.

“What are you thinking about?” you ask.

“The rave thing,” she says.

“And?”

“Well, more particularly, your uh. Costume. Or lack thereof?” she says, hesitantly. Her eyes flick to your horns. “I mean, I’m not sure it’s a good idea.”

“That’s cause it’s a great idea,” you reply, feeling kind of stubborn on the subject.

“But we don’t know who or what could be there,” says Rowan. “Why take a risk like that?”

“I guess if you really want, I could go down to the Spirit Halloween place and drop like forty bucks on a slutty nurse costume,” you reply, irritation creeping into your voice. “You know. While like, half of everybody else dresses like a slutty demons anyway.”

Rowan shakes her head. “I’m being serious. Listen Sierra, I’m not saying it wouldn’t be cool. I just think being cool’s not worth the risk,” she says. “Why are you so set on going through with this?”

You snort, and pick up your grammar book as if you’d rather go back to Russian than continue on. “Because,” you say. Uh oh. You didn’t actually have a reason thought out. “Because!” you say emphatically, waving the book at her.

Rowan gives you a insistent look. “Because?”
>>
>>32924400

“Because I don’t know,” you say, looking down and flipping through the language manual. “Because like, I could just walk around and like, it would be okay. As in, like, it wouldn’t be you know, weird or bad or anything if I wasn’t hiding anything,” you explain, keeping your eyes on the near-indecipherable Cyrillic lettering. “I just want to be me, Ro,” you say. “All of me. For like, once in my life.”

You can feel Ro watching you, but you keep your attention focused on the book. “Sierra,” she says apologetically. “I’m… maybe it’s not a bad idea.” There’s uncertainty in her voice. “But you’ll need to be really careful.”

You laugh briefly. “I know. I always need to be careful,” you reply. “I can handle it.” Probably.

Rowan goes back to playing chords on her guitar. Man, guitars are cool.

You throw aside homework for the time being and go for your sketchbook. “You can play something if you want,” you say, clicking your mechanical pencil and pushing the lead back in until it is of optimal length.

Rowan begins playing some song that sounds hard to play. But it sounds nice, anyway, especially when she starts singing gently along with the melody.

[Music? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NnN7bFVHio]

While she goes, you open up to the foremost empty page and start sketching out the general scene of a party. You put a little demon gal in the middle of the party standing alone, while everyone else around goes about their own business, wearing masks.

“-promised to show him the powers of the dark side,” says Moriah. She’s currently telling you the pre-history of her Star Wars campaign. It’s kind of convoluted, but you’ve seldom heard this much out of her, so you don’t interrupt. Plus it might be useful if Shenir’s ever going to make her character goal of fifteen million credits.

It’s Monday and school has just ended. While your weekend was pretty okay, the whole imminent doom thing has got you kind of on your toes. Being on your toes is not the best state of being for you, but whatever, it is what it is. Isaac’s picking you and Rowan up today from school, probably to go training or whatever.
>>

He’s been spending pretty much every hour going over books and scrolls and who knows what looking for possible ways Meckor could be planning on executing his master plan, though he’s got nothing yet from what you’ve seen.

You’re walking with Moriah from your art class, which on today’s block schedule, has taken up almost half your day. Not a bad way to go.

“Wait wait,” you say. “So they’re roaming the galaxy with all these robots and just wrecking crap up?” you ask.

“Not really, but sure,” Moriah says.

“That’s all kinds of awesome,” you say.

The two of you walk into the adjoining hall, and you see somebody you would have rather not seen.

Beatrice, jerk captain of the soccer team, plus one of her friends that you recognize stand before you in conversation. Rowan’s arch-nemesis catches a glimpse of you and Moriah out of the corner of her eyes, and turns to give you a broad, uncanny-vally-esque smile. “Hey Sierra! I haven’t seen you around in a while. How are you today?” she asks. The fakeness of everything about her pisses you off. (+4 Stress: 39/100)

Beatrice’s maniacal smile intensifies. “You’re so considerate,” she says. “How is Rowan doing, by the way? She was a real athlete last year – I hope she’s not blaming herself for the team’s recent stint of bad luck. Has she talked about it with you, by any chance?

You think about it for a second. “Nope. Can’t say she’s mentioned it,” you say dismissively. Now that one really burns Beatrice’s buns, you can tell. You keep from laughing in her face – that would spoil it. (-2 Stress: 37/100)

Sierra's already used SW as a means to deal with people in the past, including in backstory before we got control.

Except she has no real way to defend against our mindfuckery. Sap Will is a thing that a demons would do for that precise reason. When we used in the past on normal people, we were not even aware of our heritage.

At least when we knocked her over, she had a chance to avoid it.

The only real reason to not use sap will is because Moriah is right there and it would probably leave a bad impression. Other than that, there's absolutely no reason not to. Beatrice is a cunt.

So, yeah. We shouldn't use it, but the morality of using it on humans / it's a demon thing / Beatrice is just a dumb teenager / whatever else are all shit reasons.

That's actually a valid reason.

I'd argue about whether or not Sap Will should be considered a right proper mindfuck, it's not, but it doesn't really matter whether it is or not since Moriah might have a problem with it either way and there's a fair chance of her recognizing it if it's used.

Because Isaac is a state demon hunter and general supernatural stuff deal-with-er. It's his job to know what someone who just got hit with a Sap Will looks like.

I'm not saying Moriah wouldn't figure it out. She might, she might not, but she certainly does have the potential to see what we did if we do it. That's not the point of what I said.

I said that SW is extremely unlikely to push Beatrice to kill herself in this situation. The last guy had the previous state of extreme stress prior to getting SW'd -and- he had a gun on hand for an easy way to actually commit suicide. Beatrice has neither of those two major factors. She'd get hit, go into a semi-catatonic state, and just sit there until it wore off or hobble away to the bathroom and cry until it wore off.

Again, we shouldn't use it right now, but it's only because of the Moriah thing. Beatrice killing herself or otherwise suffering permanent harm as a result of Sap Will is not a thing that would happen.
>>
>>32927872
I pretty much agree with this. Not that I think Sap Will is totally off-limits here, but we should give her at least much leeway as we gave the cop.

If we really need to end this social encounter, I'm up for it, but our stress is still at a pretty tolerable level.

You feign denseness, which to your discredit, you do pretty damn well, and tackle the insinuation head-on. “Are you… ohh,” you say, and then drop your voice a couple octaves. “I’m so sorry – I thought you were just being a jerk, but - um. So you know, like, I’m not really ‘with’ with Ro,” you explain, doing a swell job of looking embarrassed. “And not that I want to hurt your feelings or anything, but… Ro kind of likes guys? Like, I don’t want to get your hopes up or anything that she’s not in a relationship. Not that you shouldn’t, you know, try, if that’s your thing, but man, I mean – more power to you?”

Beatrice is taken off guard by the reversal of her attack, as is her henchman (henchwoman?), and her cheery facade fails momentarily, and she scowls at you. If only she would start crying. That would be the best. (-5 Stress: 39/100)
>>
>>32928321

>>32930556

“Anyway,” you say, blundering onward, “I’ve got plans with Ro – that’s like, not an innuendo, just in case I was giving off that kind of vibe? So goodbye and stuff. C’mon.” You turn to leave with Moriah in tow.

“But you didn’t even introduce me to your friend,” Beatrice says, her friendly smile regained once more. “What’s your name?” Her stance is poised, as if ready for action, but you doubt she would attack you straight on. And if she did, you’d have a good time bouncing her head off of the locker-lined walls.

Moriah looks unsure and uncomfortable at being so directly confronted, and falters in your retreat.

You make sure to stay between you and Moriah, and give her the signal look to remain silent. “I didn’t, you say. And then you make knowing eye-contact with Beatrice’s lackey. “And neither did you. Later, Trix.”

You and Moriah make a getaway, and to Beatrice’s credit, she doesn’t give chase or try to enact whatever the hell evil plot she’s got now. You like to imagine you hurt her friend’s feeling and sowed the seeds of discord.

“Why does she hate you so much?” Moriah asks quietly.

You shrug. “Some people are bitches,” you say nonchalantly. “And maybe she’s gay? I really don’t get it.”

Moriah seems to accept that. You eventually come to the juncture where Moriah’s going to go out to the parking lot and you’re going to go meet up with Ro and eventually Isaac. “Hey,” she says, pausing momentarily after your goodbyes, “if she keeps bothering you, you should talk to a teacher about it.”

“What are you doing?” she asks.

You drop the frame. “You’re such a square,” you say smiling to yourself. “But that’s what’s great about you. Don’t let fear compromise who you are.”

Moriah gives you a really serious kind of look. “That’s a quote from Mass Effect 2.”

You may or may not have spent a couple hours last night watching somebody’s younger brother playing video games, though its source doesn’t effect its validity. “Well. Don’t,” you reiterate. A question strikes you, so you go ahead and ask it. “And what would I say, anyway? I mean, she’s being all mean and whatever? She’d say the same thing about me.”

Your friend sighs. “It’s called harassment. There have been multi-million dollar lawsuits over less, and teachers aren’t stupid. More likely they’re on the paranoid side,” she says. “That’s why they hire people called councilors whose job it is to deal with these kinds of problems. I don’t want to pry but… you don’t have to go around waging secret wars all the time. You can always ask for help, if you need it.”

“I can handle my own problems,” you tell her. “Failing that I can get new problems from other people.”

She laughs and you smile. “Have a good day, Sierra,” she says.

“See ya,” you say, waving. You part ways, and then head toward your rendezvous point with Rowan. You get there, though likely you’ve gotten there a little before her. Sometimes Ro’s a little late socializing with whatever teacher. You lean against the wall of the corridor and make busy looking cool. While chattery students go this way and that.

A familiar face emerges from the drifts of students and walks over. “The elusive Sierra, spotted in her natural habitat,” says Baron. “Hey. Haven’t seen you in a while.”

“I’m my own person,” you say. “What of it?”

“I was looking around for Ro – I have some files I need to give her for next week’s paper. I figure you’re meeting up here?” he asks.

You nod. “Yeps.”

He takes up the open real estate on the locker bank to your right. A minute passes.

“Hey, just so you know,” says Baron, “I figured out your secret."

Your stomach contracts involuntarily. (+10 Stress: 49/100) Before you manage to stutter a reply, he continues.

"I mean," says Baron, "I think you hide it well, but I just wanted to let you know it’s fine. My lips are sealed.”

>You – man, that’s kind of a relief, actually. People are usually so like… un-cool about it.
>Oh uh. Well I know your secret too, so watch your step.

You control your reactions and avoid jumping to conclusions, despite the appeal. You’ve learned your lesson from your botched plot with Waldric. Sometimes things just need to be clear. “Okay, not like I doubt you,” you reply, “but I mean, I’ve got more than one secret. Which one are we talking about here?”

Baron shrugs, and watches as kids go by on their way to the exit or wherever else they’re going for the rest of their days. “I’m not talking about your raging addiction to heroin, if that’s what you’re worried about,” he says.

“You know about my – oh, I see what you did there,” you say sarcastically.

Baron chuckles. “But in all seriousness. I get it. Like I don’t get it exactly, of course, I’m not saying I do. But my parents weren’t always there for me either, and a couple of times I was more or less on my own,” he explains. As he continues, his tone grows in earnestness, and he becomes more animated.
>>
>>32932092

“So what I am saying is, I know you live with the Hallows, and it’s not like it’s mark of shame or anything.” He takes a moment to look you in the eye, as if to make sure you understand what he’s saying. “You don’t need to be embarrassed or act all cagey whenever you talk about it. Sometimes you just need some help, and sometimes there’s somebody who cares enough to take the time out for you,” he finishes. “Long story short. Somebody cool as you deserves a break. End of story.”

You don’t really know how to take that. One minute you’re thinking demons and the next Baron’s on one of his rants, but this time he’s ranting about you. You’re kind of confused now.

>Yeah, well, I’m all on board with that. I deserve all the breaks I can get.
>I kind of thought you were uh… talking about something else at first.

“I uh… thought you were talking kind of about something else when you said you figured out the secret,” you say.

Baron grins. “Not that I’m not interested in finding out about what that something else is,” he says somewhat mischievously, “but I guess asking would cheapen what I just said, so I’ll hold off for now.”

“One thing,” you say. “Would you tell me all that stuff if I didn’t look so damn cool in my sweet jacket?”

“Of course not,” Baron replies. “What do you take me for, a member of the working class?”

“You middle class scum,” you counter.

Well, out of everybody at school, Baron’s somebody you don’t mind kind of knowing what’s going on in your life. You never really thought you merited special attention, really, as a person. Like, claws and fire okay, but people are happy to just forget about you after you break line of sight. Maybe it’s… nice, a little, to find out somebody’s been thinking about you sometimes when you’re not around. (-5 Stress: 34/100)
>>
>>32932677

“So… now you tell me a secret back, right?” you ask. “Like. As a trade.”

Baron isn’t sold on the thought. “A trade implies that I don’t already have the thing you have to offer,” he says. “If you want a secret from me, you’ve got to tell me a secret from you that I don't know already.”

You frown at him. What is this, extortion?

>You give me what I want or else I’ll start making vague threats.
>I always have a knife on me. Like. Right now I could totally shank you and get away with it.
>I’m a sicosnipophobe. Yeah, that’s a real thing – good luck googling it. Now cough up something good.

“Well, how about this for a secret – you tell me a secret or else I’ll start making vague threats,” you threaten.

“Starting with that one, right?” Baron asks wryly. “So what you’re really saying is that you’re going to make vague threats no matter what, but I should reveal the darkest corners of my soul to you anyway just to be polite.”

“Well that’s exactly what I’m saying, so good job I guess,” you say, making sure to lay on the vague threats afterward. “Now secrets or else!”

Baron’s expression becomes stern. “Nope. Not happening. I’m going secrets or bust on this one.”

You know what? If he wants a secret so bad, fine, he can have one. “I’m a sicosnipophobe,” you say suddenly, trying to best Baron at his own capricious game. “Yes, it’s a real thing. Good luck googling it. Now, I demand secrets.”

Baron doesn’t reply immediately. He instead flips out his phone, and starts screwing around on it.
>>
>>32933028

Usually you’re on par with everybody, but damn, he’s like, almost a foot taller than you are. “What is – what are you doing?” you ask, trying to finagle your way around so you can see his phone screen. But he just holds it higher and kind of out of your view. You have no hope in seeing what he’s doing. But then he just flat out tells you what he’s doing.

“Googling it,” Baron replies nonchalantly. “How was it again? Sic-o-snip-o-phobe? There we go.” He hits what you presume is the go button and starts scrolling around.

Crap. You were kind of betting he’d forget a syllable or two before he got home. Why is the internet everywhere? “Don’t read that,” you say. “Any of it!” (+3 Stress: 37/100)

He pauses, probably having read an offending piece of information. “Are you really afraid of scissors?” he looks at you incredulously, and then eyes your kind of slapdash hairstyle.

>You weren’t actually supposed to google it!

Also Baron's unlikely going to happen, Lawnguid. He's not linked to supernatural - maybe.

Naww, surely that wouldn't happen. Not all can be pre-supernatural, right? I can see Vik and Baron joining in if Sierra or whoever ends up telling and showing though.
