The One-Star apartments felt about like what you initially expected Honnouji's living quarters would-mid to upper-middle class, comfortable, good food... adjusting to the emptiness in the house takes some time. Dad was always there before, even if he didn't always stay. Your apartment is big enough for a family of five to live in.

Silence is the only thing there to lull you to sleep, and it's there to greet you when you wake up.

It makes the presence of Mikisuki Aikurou in your living room, tie undone and shirt half-open, all the more startling.

“Heinrich-san, good morning! Thought you might want to know I swept your house for bugs when I got here. You're good. Oh, your uniform only has a tracking device. Can't get rid of it yet, don't want to get attention. Breakfast?” He holds up a platter of bacon, eggs, and toast to you. You accept it and begin eating slowly, trying to reason with what's happening.

“I can't stay for obvious reasons. Take these. You'll need them.” He adjusts his shirt and tie, messing up his hair and putting his aviators back on. He pulls pages seemingly at random from his stacks of papers and books, leaving them on the table. He's gone out the back door before you can even pour yourself some coffee.

You sigh to yourself, drink down your coffee and head into your bathroom to shower. You didn't really notice the full-body mirror until you get out. When you see it, you...

A blue-haired middle-aged man with aviator glasses the size of tea saucers just left your house. He did -not- stand out in this place.

Still... it couldn't hurt to make yourself look a little more forgettable, right?

You comb your hair over your head, giving it a rather simple bowl-cut look. A quick, close shave later, and if people didn't know to look for it, you could have been born on the island. Perfect.

While you can't quite adjust to the feeling of donning a Goku Uniform, you aren't surprised by the rush of power when you finish buttoning up the coat. Ready to go, you head over to your coffee table whereupon you start sorting the papers Aikurou left. A small picture of a black-haired girl with a red highlight and... strange eyes, to say the least, falls out of between two of them.

You hide away the papers after reading them over. Matoi Ryuko is the new transfer student from yesterday, who declared war against Satsuki's regime. Daughter of a scientist studying something called “Life Fibers” named Matoi Isshin, confirmed dead six months ago in his own lab. Stubborn, dangerous, and driven by a strong desire for revenge. Weapon of choice is a... half-scissor? According to this it's razor sharp and fits in the guitar case she carries.

You stow your dossier in the coffee table for now-you can hide it later. Checking your camera's batteries (they're full of course) you stuff that in your pocket and head for the tram. Today is your first day in the Photography Club-it wouldn't do to be late.

Already you're seeing payoff on your “disguise.” Nobody on the tram notices you're the other transfer student.

Class is boring, and there's no messages ciphered into your notes today-just more of the same from yesterday. You take some token notes about the League of Nations and how they were involved with the onset of World War 2, but mostly you let your attention slip to your class.

Not many people are particularly noteworthy. There's a really energetic girl with a brown bowl cut-her name's Mako, from what you've been told. She's currently (and constantly) sleeping through class and yet somehow places well enough not to fail. The empty seat next to her was where the 'spy' that stole the One-Star sat.

You're the only One-Star in this class-something you didn't notice before. Everyone else is a No-Star. They vary in different degrees of studiousness in this class, though no one comes close to Mako's comatose state.

With no covert meeting needed today you decide to take your food and go find the Photography Club's meeting room. It's across the schoolyard from your homeroom. On your way there, you see some members of what you assume to be the Boxing Club setting up a ring in the middle of the courtyard and... bringing in a huge deep fryer.

Your suspicions of how insane this school is are confirmed when you open the club room door and are immediately blinded by several white flashes and the sound of shutters closing.

Turnabout is fair play after all.
>>
>>32967781
When your vision returns, you're staring at literally every camera you could imagine, and they're all pointed at you-including the old timey one with the black cloth over the back. Varying One-Star students (mostly women), each with their own minor alterations to their uniform stare at you afterward and no one speaks.

You're going in blind here. You neither know anyone here nor have any intel on them, and you need this club in order to do what you're here for. You...

There's a moment's pause.

Then you do what comes naturally.

You reach into your pocket, produce your camera, and snap a picture of the collective Photography Club.

This results in everyone cheering and hurling Polaroid photos all over the place, then running over to you and swarming you.

“Heeeey, that camera is so new!”
“Does it come with its own screen?”
“Can it print!?”
“It's so awesome!”
“Can I see it?”
“Quick, get a picture of my good side!”

You're too threatened by being potentially devoured by rabid photographers to hear someone clearing their throat. So are the rabid photographers. So when the club president raisers her voice, she sounds very frustrated.

“ShutterBUUUUUGS!”

When they clear out from around you, you can see her clearly. A tall, pretty pink-haired girl with a big Polaroid camera that appears to be made of solid red... something that seems to glow. There's two stars on her uniform, one on either shoulder. Club president, then.

She casually walks up to you, looks you over, then lifts the camera to your face and takes a picture. You, naturally, do the same. This elicits a collective gasp from the clubgoers, though her own face remains placid.

Her camera prints out a photo of you, with the camera. You tap your touchscreen and turn it around, showing her what you took. She hands you the photo of yourself.

Your camera is worth a lot of money and is very good.

Hers looks like it was literally stolen from real life.

You smile and lower your head a little. “That camera is really something, President.”

A palm lands on your chest and shoves, and you stumble backwards into a chair. Looking up, you see her grinning, one hand on her waist.

“Welcome to the Honnouji Shutterbugs, transfer student.”

Then the cheering starts again.

"I'm Heinrich. Nice to meet you, everyone!"

You bow just like you did when you're introduced to a new class, and stand straight afterward. The President has one finger in front of her lips, lost in thought. Suddenly she points it up at the roof and right at you.

“Nope! You're Hain!”

“Uh... excuse me?”

A shorter black-haired girl walks up next to you, a smaller and older though still nice-looking digital camera dangling off of one wrist. “Boss gives everyone a new name. Don't bother trying to argue with her, she's going to use that one anyway. I'm Tohya, but Boss calls me Toes.”

You nod and smile to her, then turn back to the president. “Well, what's your name, Boss?”

She frowns at that and raises her camera up, snapping a picture of you as a response.

“Ooooh, shouldn't have asked her that.” says another voice behind you.

The cheery redhead that answers you frames you with her fingers, a Polaroid hanging from her shoulder.

“Boss doesn't tell anyone her name until they either give her an awesome picture to take, or bring her one they took. Oh, I'm Naoki.. Call me Smiles.”

A bunch of eccentric photographers with superpowers. You'll fit in perfectly.

You smile to Smiles then bow back to Boss. “Well, Boss, I'm the new guy. So what do we do here?”

Boss' eyes sparkle as she turns and starts walking around the room. “The Honnouji Shutterbugs are responsible for running the school newspaper! We go find fighting going on between other clubs, take pictures, and publish the paper so everyone knows where the clubs stand! But it's not just that-we also need pictures of the Elite Four, of other students going over their day, the beautiful views of the island, and more! We have the best dark room in all of Japan and the best investigative crew in any high school in the world!”

Investigative crew.

This place is a gold mine, as long as no one catches on to what you're doing-and the Shutterbugs are eccentric.

Scratch that, platinum mine.

“So do you know what's going on with the Boxing Club!”

“Nope, not at all!” Boss turns and throws a clipboard at you, which you juggle for a bit before you catch it. “Go find out! And if you get a good enough shot... I'll tell you my name.” She winks to you at that before vanishing into the dark room and shutting the door.

Fantastic, now you've got an assignment-that gives you an excuse to snoop around. You have some time before you need to look into the Boxing Club, but making a good first impression on this club could help with your cover. Plus, everyone seems really nice. You decide to...

[ ] ...snoop around Honnouji for intel first.

With how important clubs are to this school, NOT doing what your Club President says is suicide. And it's going to make people ask questions, which in your case is also suicide.

Besides, Boss is kind of cute. So that helps your decision-making process. A little bit. Not a lot.

The scene is just as crazy as everything else you've seen so far. The Boxing Club President and... someone else, with green hair. Sanageyama Uzu maybe? His uniform has three stars on it, so that must be him-the one who failed to defend Kanto. Behind them, there's someone who looks a little familiar upside-down on a large metal X. Taking out your camera and zooming... you can see it's Mako, the one from your class. You snap a picture of her.

For the club. Ahem.

You start circling the boxing ring, snapping pictures if anyone looks. This can't be the first time Shutterbugs watched something like this, because you're practically invisible. Sure, people SEE you, but they just pass right over-you're something they expect to be there. They just ignore the shutterbug.

You couldn't ask for anything better.

The obnoxious boxer begins speaking into a microphone, broadcasting his words throughout the whole island. A thought occurs to you-right now, while no one is looking and everyone can't hear because of the obnoxious speech, you could help your classmate. It'd be risky...

When you got here, this place pissed you off.

“TRANSFER STUDENT, CAN YOU HEAR ME!?”

The obvious suffering people were put through, seemingly arbitrarily just pissed you off.

“ONE HOUR FROM NOW, YOUR BEST FRIEND'S EXECUTION WILL BE CARRIED OUT!”

The sheer unfairness to the distribution of wealth pissed you off.

“AS SHARED RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR CRIME OF TREASON AGAINST HONNOUJI ACADEMY!”

The obviously tilted system of 'power' that's all but impossible to actually ascend through pissed you off.

“IF YOU WANT TO STOP IT, QUIT SKULKING AROUND AND SHOW YOURSELF!!”

And this pisses you off more than anything else.

Mako Makanshoku doesn't have the intelligence to even understand the concept of treason, based on how she goes through school. And from what you overheard, all she did was talk to the transfer student and try to be her friend.

You've been in that dark place before, where no one wants to meet you. People kind enough to light your heart up don't deserve this.

You can't just leave her here to die.

So you start to think.

You know you have to help her, but there's a Three-Star supervising this directly-open confrontation is out. Ryuko got beaten down so badly yesterday that you can't rely on her showing up. Mikisugi's needles would be perfect here, but he's a teacher-teacher's don’t intervene, and even if you had them, you can't use them.

Your options are limited, but there are some there. Mako is currently suspended on an intricate-looking machine. Plus, there's a huge fryer over there, on a cart. Nobody has any suspicions about you yet, so no one is watching. What you need is a distraction, something to shake things up a bit. You...

You don't have the tools to work on the machinery, and that'd be loud and obvious. That leaves you one option.

You kill a snake by cutting off it's head.

So you hop up into the ring with Takaharu Fukuroda and Uzu Sanageyama, pen in one hand, clipboard in the other. Your newfound identity as a Shutterbug as your shield, you make your way right up to the incredulous-looking Boxing captain, and try to ignore the cool stare of the Student Council member.

“Mr. Fukuroda, hi, I'm with Honnouji Newspaper. Can I get a statement regarding what's going on here?” You walk up to him and snap a picture, catching him off-guard, and then you begin needling him with questions.

“Is it true your Two-Star Uniform is on the line here? Are you assured that you can win? Why do you use a hostage to bring out the other transfer student? Do you really intend on executing her? Do you have any proof that Mako Makanshoku has committed treason? Where did you get the fryer? Is the Home Economics club working with the Boxing Club to make Honnouji Academy's students cannibals? Is it true that you'd execute your own club members to keep your Two-Star Uniform without hesitation? Can you-”

Fukuroda has no idea how to answer any of these questions and just begins to yammer, obviously caught off-guard. You pegged him right as the kind of guy that only knows one thing. As you start asking your questions, the people gathered around him-even his own club members-begin looking a mixture of worried and upset.

Uzu Sanageyama's hand on your shoulder weighs more than a simple touch should, and it silences you instantly.

“Hey, Shutterbug. Why don't you wait until after to ask, eh?”

He looks you dead in the eyes when he asks and you know that he's seen right through your intent.

Thankfully, you stalled long enough, as there's a loud sound from the crowd, and a sudden blur of brown.

The brown figure produces a bright red scissor and descends upon Mako's prison. There's the sound of metal snapping loudly, and she's free. You take the opportunity to scramble out of the ring now, as you have a good idea about who's hiding behind the cloak.

You think the hooded figure looked your way but can't be too sure. Stepping off to the side, you produce your camera, just in case.

The Boxing Club members don't bother to try and apprehend the person breaking Mako out, in part because it's so quick they really can't, and in part because they no longer trust their captain. Mako is obviously relieved and set down. Ryuko, however, is obviously even madder than you, and leaps into the ring, challenging the boxer to a one-on-one match, which he obviously accepts.

He looks a little shaken at the fact that his card girl walked off a while ago. He also looks like he's bad at trying to hide it.

So he makes up for it with a viscous onslaught of left jabs that literally fills the arena, before shooting forward and following up with a right straight. Of course, because nothing in this place can be sane, his right straight is a goddamn drill, which strikes her straight in the chest, tearing through her cloak to reveal her blocking with her scissor and...-!

What she's wearing is... absolutely ridiculous. At least she doesn't seem proud of it.

Fukuroda, however? Absolutely furious. He shouts something about her disrespecting boxing by trying to distract him with the sexiness of her outfit. While you can't say for sure that you agree with him judging by her blush, you can't quite fault his reasoning.

He pulls off his gloves to reveal that he was, in fact, wearing metal gloves. Spiked metal gloves. Razor sharp spiked metal gloves. Made of that same red material as Boss' camera. Designed to “enhance his athleticism.” Well, of course people would be too scared to box him if he didn't wrap them, those are closer to meat tenderizers than boxing gloves.

Ryuko doesn't even try to dodge his attack. She lowers her sword and accepts it, taking it straight to her mostly-exposed chest. It's an act of suicide, or extreme confidence-sometimes overconfidence, you've seen fights decided by both. Something tells you to keep watching, though, so you zoom in on the scene.

You immortalize in film the moment that both his uniform, and his confidence, are shattered upon the mostly-bared body of Matoi Ryuko.

Ryuko receives his punches for a full minute-and he throws a lot now, obviously going all-out, and growing more obviously outmatched. She doesn't even tense up when he swings. He may as well be striking a brick wall. Or a red fiber-steel wall. You get the impression that Uniform could actually punch through a brick wall if necessary.

Ryuko demonstrates the control she has over the fight when she decides to step in, effortlessly gliding through his barrage of punches and sliding in towards him. She slams the handle of her scissor-sword into his jaw, knocking teeth loose. The followup is a spinning slash that opens up his back. She lifts him into the air and back down into the ground, throwing blood everywhere, before dashing forward and swinging her sword once.

You get a picture of the moment the Boxing Club Captain's Two-Star Uniform explodes into scrap cloth.

The immediate reaction from everyone around is a gasp of amazement and terror-it's obvious to tell this has never happened before.

But not to be done, she hurls Fukuroda's unconscious soon-to-be-corpse up towards the Honnouji Tower.

You know from the gasp that echoes down that something must have touched her, and find yourself a little disappointed that your zoom can't see it clearly.

Satsuki silences the school with a word and a clack of her heel, and asks a simple question: “Enough! Where did you get that outfit?”

Ryuko picks up a microphone to respond.

“It was a keepsake from my father. And this Scissor Blade is left over from the one who killed him. Now you're gonna tell me who it belongs to... Kiryuin Satsuki!”

...the other transfer student just declared war.

You snap another picture.

But you aren't quite sure if it's a picture of your cover... or of an ally.

Great job again today Covert OP. Although I would like to see us have more choices. We seem to be getting a lot of text dumps without a whole lot of agency. It's not too much of a problem because you post rather quickly. Just a suggestion. I'm glad to see you a part of the KLK CYOA universe.
