The sun rose slowly on the digital world, as slowly as it set. The difference between Earth's cycle and this one took some getting used to when you first arrived, but you'd like to think you're dealing with the changes pretty well.

After the sun set last night, you walked Sally back to the tent Sanzomon allow you to use, where the others were already asleep. It was a funny sight that greeted you- Zoe, sleeping against the massive form of Aslan, who was curled up not unlike the cat he once was. Daniil and Niklas were both splayed out haphazardly on their side, their partners not far away. There was a clear spot for you and your partner, but it wasn't very large. You commented on this quietly, and offered to find somewhere else for yourself while she took the remaining space.

Sally had wanted you to stay with her then, and even though you had half a mind to agree, in the end you...

>gave in

Sally can be very compelling when she wants to be. And right then she wanted to be.

The two of you lay down next to one another, in your case somewhat nervously, given the smile on her face at your agreement. You opted to face away from your partner, just in case, but you couldn't ignore her large forearms wrapping around you, far more gently than you thought possible from such huge talons. There was a kind of protectiveness in your partner's embrace that you couldn't deny, and as you drifted off to sleep, the words she whispered into your ear snuck their way into your dreams.

"Sleep well, my beloved partner."

--

You dreamt of steel, cold and biting. There wasn't an inch of earth or sky anywhere, nothing green or blue or anything natural. Only the shining grey of the earth's bones. In the distance, a voice bellowed and the metal beneath your feet quaked, but as the noise drew nearer, a comforting blackness wrapped itself around you, and you knew nothing more.

--

The morning came too early, you felt. Even now, as the sun streams in through a skylight in the top of the tent- something you hadn't noticed until waking up- you can't help but feel-

Well, you know one thing you can't help but feel; sally's grip seems to have tightened in the night, and not just that of her arms. Your partner seems to be trying to fuse with your back, her body is pressed so tight against your own. The others aren't awake yet, but they will be soon. And you're feeling rather hungry. Do you...

>Try and escape her grip without waking her
>stay where you are

Sally seems so peaceful sleeping, you don't want to ruin it. So instead, you try to slip out of her grip, wriggling slowly, attempting to find a weakness in her iron hold.

Unfortunately, not only can you not find one, Sally has taken your squirming as a sign to tighten her grip even more. There's a softness at your back, and her breath on your neck is making it very hard to stay calm. Perhaps agreeing to her suggestion last night wasn't the smartest thing you've ever done...

A slight, short moan comes from the... young woman behind you, and suddenly you realize just how tight your partner is holding you- and the effects your closeness is having on both her and yourself. Maybe it was a good thing you didn't try to wake her up; this would have been very awkward for you both. And you take a moment to thank whoever is listening that Sally didn't hug you from the front before falling asleep. That would have made things so much more difficult. You don't dare use the word "harder."

The others still haven't woken up, and you can't hear much outside the tent. You suppose going back to sleep is an option...

>Wake Sally up, breakfast in bed.

As nice as your digimon's hugs are, it's time to get up- you're hungry, and if you're hungry, then Sally is going to be starving. The amount of food a digimon can eat won't ever stop astonishing you.

Gathering your courage, you manage to turn in her arms, trying to focus on anything but how close the two of you are, as well as how pretty Sally is when she's sleeping, before maneuvering your arm in her grip to... poke your partner in the stomach. Her previously steady breathing hitches, her body stiffens, and her eyes snap open, blinking blearily.

"Wayne?" She looks around, as though she doesn't recognize her surroundings. "Did we-?"

"No," You rush to answer, cutting in before she can finish her question. "No, it was just sleeping." For a split second, Sally looks disheartened, but then her attention is drawn to the closeness between the two of you. A giggle escapes her lips, and she opens her mouth to say something, her eyes narrowing in a dangerously sultry look...

And then her own hunger makes itself known, shutting her advance down before she can even begin. She has the manners to look mortified by the intrusion, and slowly unlocks her claws from around you.

"I- um..." She starts to speak, but a hand on her head and a smile quells whatever she was about to say.

"Don't worry. I understand," You assure her. "I'll go fix something. You stay there." She smiles gratefully, before breaking out into a yawn. Not even Sally can wake up that easily, it would seem.

you're in a tent with very little space to work with and not a lot of materials. If you had a kitchen and more time, perhaps.

>Roll: 9
>DC: 8

You gather a couple items that you intend to make into a meal for Sally, light a fire in the center of the tent with some matches you found near Daniil's bag, and get to work.

You almost ruined it. You very nearly burned not only what you were cooking - a small sort-of apple pie made with some of the provisions you brought with you from Olypmus- but yourself as well. Thankfully, the food turned out alright, even if you had more than a few close calls.

Handing the small dish off to your partner, you try to clean up the mess you made in the meantime. If the pleased hums in the background are anything to go by, though, Sally definitely enjoyed your offering.

Your own hunger is easy enough to take care of with a packed sandwich- one of your last ones, it would appear.

Now that Sally's hunger and your own have been appeased, what will you do?

>pet the cat
>discuss plans with Sally/the group

You sit back down next to your partner, smiling to yourself as she finishes off her breakfast, her eyes shut in delight. Something rubs against your knee, and you turn to see Sally's cat extension beside you, purring happily. Picking up the little creature, you begin to stroke it slowly, noticing that your witch shivers slightly at the touch, but doesn't offer any reaction other than that. Still, you can't spend the entire day like this, and if you're not mistaken, the others will be waking up soon.

In the meantime, you'd like to have what you're going to do next figured out. you can't stay in this camp forever, and while it might be the good thing to do, solving everyone's crisis of faith for them won't make things any easier on your group.

Then there's that bounty on the heads of your fellow humans. You're not quite sure you want to meet whoever put that out. You don't want to think about what you might do- or more accurately, what you might order Sally to do.

That also worries you. Sally's comfort with carrying out your orders and her willingness to do anything for you isn't normal, and lately, your thoughts have been taking dark turns whenever you find yourself giving those orders...

But perhaps your partner will have something to say on the matter...

Those dark thoughts would probably be the Crest of Lust setting things up so Lilithmon will come into existence.
Or maybe it's Lilithmon herself who's reaching back in time to set it up.

>Ask Sally her opinion on the mission
>Confide in your partner

First things first: You need to figure out what you'll do and where you'll go next. You need a plan. You ask Sally what she thinks, what she would do next. The blonde witch is quiet, thoughtful, before answering slowly, as though still trying to word the answer properly.

"I think we need to find Yggdrasil. That should be our goal...but how we do that is the real question." She ponders this for a moment more. "And I think that tartarus place...we should keep our distance. We may have to go there eventually, but I don't think we're ready, right now." You can agree with that. A place that the Olympos Twelve were frightened of, that possibly killed one of them, is not anywhere you'd want to find yourself any time soon.

Now, though, it's time for you to ask a more difficult question.

"Sally..." You pause, and she looks at you encouragingly. "I told you I'd never regret being your partner, and I meant it." Her expression grows a bit more serious at this, and she nods. "But I can't help but feel that-" You take a moment to gather your words, to figure out how to say this properly. "That I'm taking advantage of you, of your eagerness, sometimes..." You trail off as she moves closer, her eyes searching yours.

"This is about what I...did for you, isn't it?" She asks quietly. "Because I killed others of my kind for you. You think you..."

"I'm afraid of taking advantage of your willingness to please. I told you to torture, to kill, and you-" She smiles, suddenly. It's not one of malice, rather, it's a smile of relief and happiness.

"Wayne, what I do, I do for you. Always. You are not taking advantage of me when you ask that of me. It is what I'm supposed to do. I protect you. I keep you safe." For a moment, indecision wars over her expression, before she leans further in.

"Wayne, you could do nothing that I would consider taking advantage of our partnership." She gets even closer. "Nothing." Closer still…

For a split second, you can see that you have two choices: you can either allow her to finally close the distance you’ve kept between the two of you all this time, or you can stop this now, and discuss this with her later.

It's going to happen. You can't stop it. Not only that, but you don't really want to stop it. Sally's words have cleared away almost all the remaining qualms you might have had about this. She understands both the implications of her words and the effect they have on you, and she's used that to her advantage.

One moment you're watching her drift closer to you, her eyes closing slowly. The next, your lips are touching hers, your fingers seeking a comfortable place to rest on her body, finding the swell of her hip and the smoothness of her cheek, holding her closer to you. Sally's lips are soft, supple, molding to yours under the gentle pressure the both of you are placing upon them. Her eyes are already closed in a contented smile, and slowly, you close your own as well.

You both stay like that for a minute, neither intensifying or lessening, but enjoying the feeling at last. However, Sally's relaxed posture slowly begins to stiffen under your touch, her arms wrapping around you in kind to bring you closer. A soft, uncertain kind of hunger enters the kiss as she deepens it, her head tilting ever so slightly. You reply in kind, and she sighs, a smile forming even as her lips are locked with yours.

Like all good things, though, it must end. You break the kiss, however reluctantly, to regain your breath, and at that moment, you hear a groan from behind you. The others are waking up, and not a moment too soon.

Sally glares past you at the others, but when she looks back to you, her gaze softens, and the smile that finds its way onto her lips is one of the most beautiful you've ever seen.

"Thank you, Wayne." She whispers, and all you can do is nod.

We're Lilithmon's, she ain't gonna let us escape her grasp.
>>
>>33010473
Around you, the others are stirring, though Daniil still looks more asleep than awake. As they mill about, gathering their things back together, you can't help but think that if they had only slept in a little while longer, that moment might have lasted. As the two foreigners and your best friend set about making their own breakfast, you smile to yourself, then to your partner, knowingly. Your witch leans in, her lips brushing your ear.

"We're going to be doing that more often, partner." She whispers, quickly planting another kiss on your jaw before any of the others can see, then standing up and stretching as though she only recently woke.

Though it takes some time for everyone to wake fully and prepare themselves for another day, eventually your entire group is sitting in the circle again, ready to discuss where to go next. You bring up Sally's suggestion to search specifically for the World Tree and steer clear of the Tartarus trench, something Zoe agrees with (to your partner's surprise.) Daniil expresses an interest in the City, as does his partner Troian. Niklas is more wary of the City and the threat it poses, and Telsa the Kokuwamon remains silent. To nobody's surprise, Aslan seems intent on visiting the city as well, but it's his interest in the Tartarus that worries you.

"It sounds like a place of great evil- of great darkness." He insists.

"Yes, and those are places we should avoid when we can." Your partner fires back. The lion-man digimon just growls.

"I wouldn't expect you to understand, Witch. It's a matter of honor, and justice."

You can sense a confrontation brewing here.

You step between the two, your expression stern.

"Alright, there's no need to get nasty with each other."

You turn first to Sally, silently asking her to back off. She lingers for a moment, then nods, sitting back down as if nothing had happened. Next, you look to the large lion-man who was growling at your partner.

"Aslan, Sally has a point. The Gods of Olympos are wary- no, they're pretty much terrified of this Tartarus place. None of us would stand a chance in there at all. Not to mention the fact that your own partner doesn't think it wise to go there." You look him in the eye, refusing to back down. "Do you intend to risk your partner for honor?" The seconds stretch on into minutes, before finally, Aslan backs down, shaking his head. You nod to yourself, satisfied, and return to the matter at hand.

"So, either we attempt to find Yggdrasil, or we see what we can find about this city." Your group seems pretty split on what to do.

It's decided: You and your group will begin the search for Yggdrasil before anything else. The City and Tartarus trench can wait for the time being.

And just like that, you come to your first problem: you don't know where Yggdrasil is. And you highly doubt anyone else here knows. When you bring this up to the group, you're met with a mixture of reactions. Daniil curses under his breath, frustration making itself known on his features. Zoe just nods, looking pensive. Niklas sighs and shakes his head. Sally doesn't show any signs of displeasure at the news, while Aslan huffs and crosses his arms. Troian just shrugs, and Tesla...doesn't do anything. That's beginning to weird you out.
You can only imagine how Niklas feels about it.

For now, though, it's time to think.

Your map doesn't have any indication of where Yggdrasil might be. The Olympos never gave you a location, either, but from what they told you, Ceresmon vanished in search of it. Its possible that they simply don't know where it is. The Sovereigns might know, but nothing is guaranteed. While you're pondering this, Niklas speaks up.

"You know... we could just ask Sanzomon if she knows where it is." Daniil nods thoughtfully.

"That could be. She and her followers have been all over..." The taller boy agrees.

"She might have heard something while she was looking for Shakamon." Zoe finishes.

Aslan stands to his full height, a grin on his face.

"Then what are we waiting for? A glorious journey awaits, and she possesses the first step!" The lion-man digimon's excitement is not only obvious, it's almost palpable. He can't be faulted for enthusiasm, you suppose. It's Zoe who looks to you next, though, and you realize she, and the rest, are waiting for your final say.

>Go to Sanzomon

Your money situation isn't the greatest as things are, what with your purchases yesterday, and you're pretty sure the others did a little shopping as well. Answers are more important right now.

"If you guys think Sanzomon might have answers, then let's go ask her." You say. And just like that, the meeting is over. Zoe and Aslan leave first, her bags slung over the giant's shoulder, followed by Daniil and his partner. Niklas and Tesla are the last to leave, leaving you and Sally alone. However, you can see her eying her dress where she left it in your bag, and you get the message, promising to wait outside for her. For a moment, a look of disappointment flits over her expression, but then it's gone, and she smiles, nodding.

A couple minutes later, your partner emerges from the tent you shared, back in her familiar red gown, her cape over her shoulders and her hat firmly in place on her head. Her broom in hand, and your bag in the other, the two of you follow after the rest of the group- even as far as they got, it's hard to lose a gigantic orange lion. Just one more thing Aslan is good for.

By the time you catch up, the group is already nearing the spot where you met the priestess digimon the day before. Once more, she's sitting under the tree, but now, her eyes- the only part of her face you can see- don't seem so heavy. Perhaps your words did have an impact?

She must have been waiting for the entire group to be assembled, because only when you stand with the others does she speak.

"I know you seek Yggdrasil. You come to me for its location, do you not?" She doesn't wait for an answer, but closes her eyes before speaking again. "Many wish to know where the Tree takes root, where our world stems from. They do not find it because they seek it as though it were Olympus. Physical." She looks at each of your group in turn. "The Tree does exist, but beyond us. It cannot be found on this plane." You feel your hopes begin to fall, as well as those of your friends, but the holy digimon holds up a hand.

"But this does not mean Yggdrasil is unachievable. There is a way." Here, her eyes narrow, and her soft voice hardens in distaste.

"The only ones who can access the Tree's realm are its guardians. The Royal Knights. And they do not leave Yggdrasil's realm save in times of strife and conflict." Sanzomon looks you in the eyes pointedly.

"Such an event is the only way to open the door."

"I am. If you wish to enter the realm of God, then first..."

She turns her gaze to look at each of you.

"You must wage war."

Zoe tenses, and behind her, Aslan looks like he's about to burst in anticipation. Daniil's expression darkens, and his partner and Niklas seem slightly unsure of the information you've just been given. Tesla's horns spark, but otherwise, he gives no indication that he has an opinion on the matter. Sally edges a bit closer to you, worry crossing her face.

"So, Things must get much worse before they can get any better... If a war is required to gain their attention, then it is most likely going to need to be a substantial array of forces... It may prove fruitful to learn more of the other groups, such as the Don's City... If we could help other groups, if we had to resort to waging a war of the required scale, having their help immediately would allow us to work with more time than starting with a small army would have...

Though, I must admit, That was not something I would have expected you to suggest... If the Dead Zones do not count as 'Strife', then The sheer numbers of Digimon that would have to die in order to summon the Royal Guardians would be even more devastating than the effects of the Dead Zones thus far...

>A War would require an army. And an enemy.

"You know, hearing someone like yourself say this is really kind of..."

"Wrong?" Sanzomon offers.

"Unexpected." You finish diplomatically. Her eyes narrow, but you can tell behind her scroll/veil that she's smiling.

"Believe me, I would not say this if it were not the truth. And you asked for a truth." Her tone is bitter, but not directed at you or yours.

"A war needs armies. And enemies." You continue, and she nods sadly.

"Another truth."

"And am I correct in assuming you can't help us in that area?"

"You are."

Well, that was worth a try.

"So things have to get a lot worse before they can get better." You muse, a frown tugging at your face. "I can't imagine the numbers needed if an all-out war is required to get their attention, especially if they haven't done anything even with the deaths from the Dead Zones." You grimace, looking to the others and seeing varying levels of distaste meeting your own. Still...

You look back to Sanzomon.

"What would you suggest?"

She closes her eyes in thought, taking her time before answering.

"The Digital World as it is now has reached a turning point. The Dead Zones are not so new now, though they are no less horrific. There are those that have taken control of them, or who seek to do so, for their own gain. Among their ranks are true villains; digimon that would sacrifice many to rule the remains of this world. I have felt their sick auras from afar on several occasions." She opens her eyes and casts her gaze over all of you.

"There are some this world would not miss, young Chosen. Likewise, there are some this world needs, if it is to see this crisis through. I leave it to you to decide upon whom you declare your war."

What she says makes a kind of sense, but...something doesn't feel right.

"How do you know this?" You keep your eyes locked on hers, watching for any movements.

"I know of many things. Some I have been told when I sit under the tree. Some, I hear from those that follow me. Some, I have seen for myself." She answers, though it doesn't really satisfy you. You're still suspicious, but...

>>[] simply leave, and agree to nothing.
This should be interesting

Ask how she knows this, and how doesn't this current situation qualify as a time of strife and conflict?

Bring up what we heard from the Olympians about the Royal Guard becoming corrupt and derelict in their duties. Even if there's a war, what makes her think they won't turn a blind eye to it, given how long they've been silent.

>Bring up what we heard from the Olympians about the Royal Guard becoming corrupt and derelict in their duties. Even if there's a war, what makes her think they won't turn a blind eye to it, given how long they've been silent.
This is an important point to note.
>>
>>33027734
Ask her about the Royal Guards themselves.

The gods of Olympus had many unkind words to.share about them, and the gods.who sent us don't seem fond of the guard either.

What do we do if it turns out the Royal Guard is part of the problem?
>>
>>33027734
"So it sounds like if we try to help the world by dealing with the city that places a bounty on us, and investigating Tartarus, the way will open for us. Because I could see both those things getting messy."
>>
>Bring up the Royal Guard themselves

"The gods on Olympus had nothing good to say about the Knights." You say. "And the Sovereigns didn't seem very fond of them, either. We were told they'd abandoned their duties. What makes you think they'll come out to stop any war we cause? And for that matter, doesn't this time count as one of strife? Why would they step out for a conflict if they won't step in when the people are suffering?"

Sanzomon merely shakes her head.

"Their pride. If there is one thing that will never change about the Knights, it is their vanity. Their vanity...and their bloodlust." She sighs and her eyes turn downwards. "Make no mistake, Chosen: they will not open the door to stop your war.

They will open your door to join it. And they will be on their own side."

>What will you say or do now?
>>
>>33028012
I want to know what happened last time the Royal Guard showed up
>>
>>33028136
"If you're so sure of this, then it has to have happened before." You observe, and Sanzomon nods.

"When the Dead Zones first appeared, a sect of violent criminals who called themselves the Dark Masters tried to seize control of the digital world for themselves. They met with more resistance than they anticipated, and the resulting clash drew the attention of the Knights. The Dark Masters disappeared in the midst of the battle, but whether they were executed or escaped, I do not know. Once the slaughter was finished, the Knights returned to Yggdrasil's domain, and sealed the gateway once more."

Well... that was...informative.

Well that's not ominous at all.
We've already got an enemy, whoever it is putting bounties out on the Chosen. I say we go punch them until they stop, take their stuff, and then pick a fight with the next biggest fish.

>The Dark Masters disappeared in the midst of the battle
...sonuva- they did exactly what we're aiming to do. Whole damn thing was a scam - they kicked up a fuss, attracted just enough attention to get the door open, then skedaddled off to Yggdrasil while the knights got their jollies in their own private bloodbath.

Great minds think alike.
>>
You know, if we could just figure out we had the Great Demon Lords, I bet t he Nightmare Soldiers would be perfect as an army.

Speaking of army, how are we going to recruit anything?
>>
>>33028630
You mean their gambit might have succeeded?
Possibly.

Raise the subject then thank the monk for her advice, apologize for inadvertently taking her to kind of a dark place, and then leave.
>>
>>33028783
Should we ask how we're meant to get an army?
>>
Whew, not too late to come back for Digimon Quest.
Will there be one tomorrow as well, Gale?
>>
>>33028824
prooobably not. I'll let you know if there is, though.
>>
So, bring up the possibility that the Dark Masters accomplished their goals and how we're meant to gather an army (maybe she could point us to what has to be massive amount of Nightmare Soldiers around, with no Great Demon Lords having risen to lead them in a long while)

>>33028875
Aww...
>>
So we're going to the city after all? They're the only places with enough people, right?

Unless we're going over to Digitama town and raising our own armies.
>>
Well here's to hoping we can digivolve Sally soon.
We'll need at least one Ultimate to help in the fight - we can't call upon Olympus XII, since they'll be joining with the Sovereigns to handle the battle.
>>
You know what, fuck the Royal Knights, if they're just going to come out to cause an even bigger mess, they can all go die in a fire.
>>
>>33029019
I don't think you appreciate how long term this plan is. We're talking endgame here.
>>
Why can't we just bring all Digimon to the real world and say "fuck it" to this one?
>>
>>33029406
The city has an Ultimate ruling it.
We're gonna have to kill him - but from the fight against Etemon in the first series, Champions going up against an Ultimate generally does not end well, unless you're Angemon.
>>
>>33029508
Would probably be hard to convince the gods to leave, at least.
Plus, if we do manage to save the world, well, we'll get to live a life of unimaginable luxury as Lilithmon's husband, which is a pretty sweet deal all things considered.
>>
>>33029508
Because that would cause SO MUCH chaos.
>>
>>33029513
>unless you're Angemon
Which was only because Angemon was a special snowflake in Season 1.
>>
We can make a new Digiworld, right? I mean... it's digital. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY is what I'm saying.
>>
>>33029610
That would still require getting to Yggdrasil to find out HOW to make a new Digiworld, and also finding away to not let Dead Zones appear all over again.
>>
>>33029513
Yeah I'm not sure why you think we're gonna fight the boss of town anytime soon.

Damn son, slow down.
>>
>>33029544
Exactly!
So we'll need something to make sure we don't get smashed like Etemon did against the kids in the first series.

>>33029937
If we're going to his territory, I want to be prepared.
>>
Alright, so I think I'll call the thread here. Something's come up, and I won't be able to run further tonight.

I'll let you guys know if I'll run tomorrow or not.

'till then, it was great to be back. I hope you guys (or at least some of you) had fun.
>>
>>33030266
Thank you for running, Gale.
>>
>>33030266
aw man
>>
>>33030266
Thanks for running Gale.
I had fun.
>>
>>33030266
Has the thread been saved on suptg?
>>
>>33030266
Good fun while it lasted, Gale.
