(OP welcomes you to Magician Quest! This thread, we may or may not get into actual combat! Excitement! I will explain the rules when we get to them.)

(Stat Sheet/Inventory is http://pastebin.com/ngs83XDE right there.)

You and Melissa head down to the local coffee-shop, Starspawnbucks, Sitting at a table is Andrea, who's holding something brown wrapped in deli paper.

Daniel's sitting down, examining the crowd around him. The coffee in front of him sits untouched.

Martin is nowhere to be seen.

You briefly entertain the thought of finding a magical replica of Magneto's mask so that Daniel can't read your thoughts.

Then you realize that's kinda stupid.

Andrea notices you and waves the both of you over.

"Heeeyyy, you guys are here! Yay!"

She pulls out two of the brown things and hands them to you. They leak melted chocolate into your hands, and look like muscles sculpted in... fudge?

Andrea grins. "I told you! Fudge Veal! Try it, it's GREAT!"

>What Now?
>>
>>33023860

You take a bite and OH DEAR GOD.

It's like if someone combined beef and fudge, ugh!

You spit it out. Andrea looks confused. "What, you don't like it?" She shrugs. "Well, more for me!"

She takes it from your hands, cuts off the part you bit with a plastic knife, and puts the rest into the deli paper.

"So, when Martin gets here, I have some BIG news for everyone!" Andrea says. She seems really excited.

Andrea shrugs. "Hygiene is hygiene, Sammy. Oh, right! I just remembered!" She shoves a 50 dollar bill into your hand.

"Sammy, do me a favor and head to the Reagent Store? I need more Stardust for my spells, and I'll need Reagents if we're gonna get to do the super cool thing I wanna do!"

You got: $50!
Total $: $75!

"Look, don't be a smartass, you're gonna be in a Party soon and I'm introducing a new resource."

>>33024200
"Sure, why not?"

Andrea smiles. "Great! Just meet me here when you're done! Remember, get Stardust!"

You jog down to the Reagent Store, and enter. All around your are large containers of various powders, liquids, stones, and even a few vials of various gases!

You approach the counter, and a small plump woman with frizzy hair looks you up and down. "A Body Student, huh? Well I don't really have anything for you, dear, but feel free to look around!"

You purchase the Stardust.
STARDUST REFILLED

You head on back to Andrea, and hand her the satchel of glowing powder.

"Oh, thanks!" She says, placing it into her pocket.

You turn around and Martin is walking up to all of you, checking his watch.

"Okay, Andrea, we've got about 5 minutes, let's move." He says.

Andrea Squees and drags all of you into the parking lot of 7/11. She stands in an empty space, and pulls out her telescope.

"So I got my permit to bring others to Alternate Dimensions." She says, apparently looking for something. "And I figured I'd take it to for a test run by heading to one of the Dimensions!" She finishes. She's still looking for the thing.

A second later, you're in what seems to be a cave. All around you is slightly moist stone, covered in glowing crystals and fungi. You hear the others land behind you, followed at last by Andrea.

"Woohoo! What a rush!" She says.

"Careful guys, this guy's gonna be tough."

Andrea huffs. "The boss is here already? Ugh! I though Jormungandr was gonna be the boss!"

Martin looks at his watch. "There are at least five timelines where you made us take on Jormungandr. Somebody dies in each of them."

Andrea sighs. "Fine!"

Melissa hits!

Her fist hits the Megapede with the force of a bullet. Its facial carapace crumples inward with a crunch and a spray of yellow gunk.

Melissa does 12 damage to Megapede!

Yeah, I gave this fucker too much health. Let's fix that.

As Samuel's punch connects, the Megapede is sent flying back into the cave wall, causing a loud tremor.

Before anyone can react, a stalactite comes down and impales the Megapede through its face. Its head explodes into gunk and a single mandible skids to your feet. It still drips slightly with Venom.

You got: Focus Material: Megapede Fang!

Suddenly, Andrea apparently notices something in the thing's stomach. She concentrates, and a stack of coins appears at your feet!

You get: $50!

You get: 50 EXP!

Everyone levels up!

Determine stat distribution next post.

One thing to do also would be give us every ones action in one post. But we would need to agree on actions is all.

Defense: 2
Dexterity: 1
1 Point Left!

Melissa:

Defense: 3
Dexterity: 1
1 Point Left!

Andrea:
Strength: 1
Defense: 2
Dexterity: 4

Martin
Strength: 2
Defense: 1
Dexterity: 2

As well, you gain new skills!
Samuel gains: Megapunch!
Same as Melissa's.

Andrea gains: Dislocation!
Andrea can now teleport an enemy's bones and organs out of place, doing damage!

Martin gains: Reverse Damage! Martin can now reverse a single attack on a character! Costs 40% Synchronicity.

Daniel Gains: Inner Strength! Daniel can now see an Enemy's stats when he Scans!

Yeah more muscle!

Andrea and Martin I'm thinking Dex to keep our caster from getting hit.
>>
>>33029077
>>33029141

Doesn't dex affect our chance to hit though? If we have 2 dex it would double all of our "to hit" rolls.
>>
I'm gonna give everyone a bit of time to figure things out. Then, we shall determine who gets what stats.
>>

Unless it's both. That would help magic hit as well I assume.

>>33029190
Hey does Str give health as well or is that it's own thing.
>>
>>33029235

OP said earlier our "to hit" rolls were the same as our escape rolls, which were dex x roll
>>
>>33029235
Dexterity is somewhat important, yes. It affects To Dodge as well as To Hit. That is, you roll a d20 and then add Dex.

Strength doesn't give health. I need to figure that out still. Originally I was gonna have it that you could pay money to increase it, but that was also back when Meditation was gonna be the only way to gain EXP...

I need to think about this.

So, confirming you want Dex for all?

Samuel's Dexterity: 2
Melissa's Dexterity: 2
Andrea's Dexterity: 5

You are all utterly exhausted. Andrea looks at everyone. "Well, I had fun! I dunno about you, but when we get home I am getting drunk and going to bed."

She pulls out her telescope and teleports everyone back into the normal reality.

Everyone else leaves. But tomorrow's a weekend, so you won't really have a class to attend. Anything you want to do tonight?

You can't really find any new good training equipment. Maybe in a couple days...

Though when you wander into the Focus Store, the shopkeep gets one look at the Megapede Fang you're carrying.

"Oh, that's an item of great power! Here, give it to me, I'll craft it into a Focus for you!"

She gives you options as to what you'd like it crafted into.

Megapede Bracelet: Increases Strength by 2 for wearer.
Megapede Watch: Double Strike adds 2 damage to the attacks.
Megapede Telescope: Dislocate now does Damage Over Time.

As of now, you are. Though the party members will occasionally contribute funds. Also, reagents go a long way. Only powerful skills go over 8%, and you've got 100 to work with.

But yeah, that's a thing now. Expect to see new Focuses in the store later on.

>>33029700
You have her craft it into the Megapede Bracelet. As you slip it on, you feel the spikes digging into your flesh slightly. The Focuscrafter must've enchanted the Venom, because instead of horrible agony you feel invigorated.

>>33029977
Why do anything if we can just sit in a corner and release dopamine into our brain all day?

It's the principle.
>>
>>33029918
As you're walking home, you run into that guy in the red shirt you saw at the Initation. He has cropped brown hair, and he seems to be smoking something. When you draw closer, the pungent odor reveals that he's smoking Marshweed.

Maybe you could buy some off of him...

You sit down next to him. "Hey."

He looks over at you. "Oh, hey, you need something?" He says.

You sigh. "Just someone to talk to. It's been a long day."

He nods. "Yeah, judging by the chemical burn on your ankle, it has been. Nice to meet you, I'm Bernie. And if you comment on the name, I swear to god I will fry you like a cheap fish-stick."

He extends a hand to you. You notice how red his hand is.
>>
>>33030110
>ignore pain on hand

>>
>>33030110

Shake his hand. Introduce ourselves. That must be one of the best things about being a fire mage, you can snap your fingers and light a cig, joint, etc.
>>
>>33030216
You shake his hand. It's incredibly warm.

"I'm Samuel Mannington. Nice to meet you."

"Same. Look, let's cut to the chase here, I know you travel through dimensions. Those burns on your leg were caused by a Sulphuric Slime. Anyone who's GOOD at dimensional travel would know how to avoid those things."

"Your point is?" You say.

He sighs. "Sending people unaware into dimensional travel is like murder. Tomorrow, meet me on the corner of Dreadman and Mourn. I'll give you a tour of the Hotspots."

Well, seems you've got something to do tomorrow.

He stands up and starts walking off. He looks over his shoulder back at you. "Nice job on taking out a Megapede though. Hope you didn't try anything stupid with Jormungandr."

You watch him go with some interest. Seems you've got a dimensional travel veteran...

And he left behind some of his Marshweed! Score!
>>
>>33030442
Gotta share that with friends. Invite Mel over.
>>
>>33030478
You call Melissa up. "Hey, Melissa, I got my hands on some Marshweed. Wanna come over and try it out?" You say.

"Sorry, Sam, but I'm all boring and straight-edge. In all seriousness though, I tried it once and saw nothing but giant mouths attempting to devour my face. I hear Martin's really into that stuff. Call him up."

She pauses for a moment. "Besides, it'd probably do you good to talk with the teammates you DON'T want to bone. Just sayin', hon. Bye."

She hangs up.

So will you call Martin?
>>
>>33030478

"Oh, sure, Sam. I'll be at your place in 5 minutes."

Exactly 4 minutes and 59 seconds later, you hear someone knock on your door. When you open it, Martin's standing there, checking his watch. "Oh, hey, Sam. Mind if I step in?"

He walks in and sits down on your couch. "So what's up?"
>>
>>33030534
Sure, why not.

Do we have a bowl or papers, or a blunt (think about the brand names/flavors in magic-world)?

"Not much man, just wanna shoot the shit," we can tell him about meeting Bernie, ask about the group, his classes, etc. I'm okay with whatever others decide in terms of topics.
>>
>>33030679
"You're early." you say in your driest tone of voice.

He looks up at you. "Hey, don't give me BS about time, when I say five minutes I mean five goddamn minutes. I wasn't technically inside until 5 minutes." He's smiling though.

You check the two blunts you got. Seems like you have two fine examples of Phase Beast. You toss one over to him and light the other up.

"So why do you even need me over here?" He says.

"Oh, just wanted to talk is all. We haven't really had the opportunity to."

He shrugs. "Well what do you wanna talk about?"

He looks at you. "Man, that's frigging dumb."

"Sorry."

>>33031069
"So uh... tell me about yourself, Martin." you say.

He shrugs. "Not much to talk about. I'm a fledging Time Mage, I've shown affinity since I was about 5, and I hardly ever see my parents because they're always working on something or another. It kinda sucks."

"Um... what do you know about Time Magic?" you say.

He immediately perks up.

"Well, you see, Time Magic is a very exact science, due to the far-reaching consequences that might occur if, say, we just talked to the wrong person at the wrong time. We're only allowed to use it to small extents, and even those are tightly controlled!" He pulls out his pocketwatch and shows it to you.

"I know you can't see it, but inside this watch are not gears, but the very stuff time is made out of. I'm not even kidding."

He looks at the watch again. "Yknow how you use your own blood to power magic, and pretty much everyone else uses Reagents of some sort or another?"

You nod.

"Well we don't need Reagents. But the problem is, Time is only willing to put up with a certain amount of our time-twisting shit until it completely locks us out. It's all science, and..."

He quickly goes from actual magical stuff to a lesson on philosophy and metaphysics, and you kind of tune out. Eventually, he stops talking.

"Uh, wow." you say.

"I know." he says.
>>
>>33031350
You mentioned earlier today that if we'd fought that big fuck-you snake, there were at least 5 timelines where we died.

Can you see other timelines? What do you see? How to all the possibilities not drive you insane?

"Well, a basic ability of most Time Magicians is the ability to see into alternate timelines. Like, for example, there is an alternate timeline where you have a really stupid haircut. There is another where you brought up Bernie earlier in the conversation than you will." He says.

"How do you not go insane, seeing all those timelines?" you say.

"Well, I don't see EVERY timeline." he says.

"It varies from minute to minute. Earlier, I saw a timeline where the weed you had WASN'T Phase Beast, and you hadn't had to deal with my weird time-warping crap."

"Your what?" you say.

"Nothing." he says.

You shrug. "So uh, any other cool abilities you have access to?"

"Nothing you don't already know about. If you're curious about any of the types you didn't already know about, Daniel has a blog set up.

He passes you a piece of paper with the URL written on it.
>>
>>33031657
Seeing alternate possibilities for the choices people make must allow you to get a better feel for people than most.

Do you want to know how I know you're high right now?

>>
>>33031802

Meant to link to OP's post. "Ask him what he's doing this weekend" refers to Martin.
>>
>>33031717
"Time Magic can let you see the future? You said I'd bring him up later than I WOULD?"

He shrugs. "Well, that was an educated guess. If you brought him up in one timeline, you'll probably bring him up in another. For reference, I fully intend to go with you, and I'm bringing Andrea. She needs to know where the Hotspots are."

You shrug.

>>33031735
"But yeah, I'll check that website out. Any hints for novice Body Mages?" you say.

He shrugs. "Well, from what I've heard, it's typically a good idea to pump up your physical endurance. You've got hardier constitutions than most, use it to your advantage. I've heard that eventually you guys can start secreting Rage Pheremones, which apparently make enemies focus on you specifically? Which would be good, considering your entire deal is punching everything directly in the dong."

You nod.

>>33031766
"So does it creep you out that Daniel can read your mind?"

He scoffs. "Oh, that's what he wants you to think. He can't do that yet. Only discern basic desires and emotions. So let's give you an example. You see this delicious ice-cream sundae, and you really want to eat it."

You nod.

"Well, what you SPECIFICALLY think is "Ah hell yeah, I'm getting some of that. However, he can only tell that your brain is firing off desire signals when it looks at the sundae. So you think "ah hell yeah" or whatever, but he's only seeing "ME WANT". He kinda needs to guess from there."

Oh. Makes sense.

>>33031802
"So what're you planning for the weekend?" you say.

He shrugs. "Andrea was saying she might try more dimension-hopping. If so, I'm definitely going along with her. For reference, no, I do not want to get into her pants. She is a little sister to me, especially considering we've known each other since we were about three."

More Dimension-Hopping? Huh.

>>
>>33031983
We should probably still tell him, though.

If we start assuming that we do things in other timelines, the other-timeline usses probably assume the same thing. It eventually narrows down our timelines, and he ends up not getting the info.

"But, uh, yeah, I met this guy named Bernie. He offered to guide me around some of the Hotspots... You can tag along if you want, I'm sure he won't mind."

Martin nods. "Right."

>>33031972
"Hey, you mind if I tag along with dimension hopping?"

"No problem. We should probably just bring the whole gang along, honestly. I'll send out some texts when we try dimension-hopping."

He stands up. "Well, I'm gonna get going. It's getting late and I'm going to bed in 15 minutes and 13.16379 seconds. Good night."

He stands up and heads out the door.

Unfortunately, the Phase Beast has left your head too muddled for meditation. You go to bed and sleep for a good long while.

You wake up around 10:00 AM, and text Martin after you shower. "Heading to Dreadman and Mourn right now."

He texts you back. "I'll be there in 10 minutes and 16.5 seconds."

>>33032156
You open up the Body entry.

"According to my studies, Body Magic dates back to the very beginning of time, where ancient man would devour the blood of their prey to gain its strength. This extends to the vital link between Body and Blood."

"Body Magic users are, by default, stronger than most. When they are chosen by the Pulse, they are given strength above most. This allows them to use their abilities without the repercussions most Types would face when using blood to power their abilities."

"Some basic abilities include increased attack power, release of rage-inducing pheremones, and minor passive regeneration of lost blood and flesh in the heat of combat."

"To put it into "RPG Terms", Body Users are Mighty Glaciers in combat, taking and dealing large amounts of damage."

"In conclusion, I provide some statistics, based on the underlying "Statistics" of the universe."

"Body Magic
Ethereal
Main Stat: Strength/Defense
Cosmic Patron: The Pulse
Current Master: Daniella"

That "Cosmic Patron" stuff is new to you.

You decide it's best not to push the puns.

Suddenly, Andrea and Martin appear next to you, Martin checking his watch. "Yup, perfect."

Bernie looks at them. "Oh, what, we've got others to take on this trip?" he doesn't sound angry or anything.

>>33032442
"Uh, yeah, my friends are coming along, the girl's a Space Magician." you say.

He shrugs. "Okay, whatever. Now, first Rift." He points at an odd bloodstain on the ground. "You see this? They've tried everything to clean it out, but they can't. That's because it represents the War Dimension. It's a land of neverending combat, and if you're not careful they WILL tear you into shreds the moment you slip up."

You get the feeling that the War Dimension is a HIGH LEVEL kind of area.

"Right, next stop, cmon." he starts walking down the street very quickly.

You shudder.

>>33032591
"So how long have you been travelling through dimensions?"

He shrugs. "Forever, really. My mom thought it would foster a healthy sense of curiosity in me. She even gave me Grandpa's telescope to do it with."

Bernie sighs. "No idea why they call that the "Sterile Dimension." I show you this not to warn, but to give you a reason to head in there and beat those bastard's faces in. Trust me, those doctors are pansies."

"Hell if I know, kid. Don't think they've got many Focus Materials, but I know for a fact that they've got plenty of cash."

Well, apparently there'll be monetary gains in this!

"Most of the corpses are from people who already lived there. Anyone who becomes a Doctor is crazy enough to carve up anyone who gets int heir way. But yeah, sometimes Space Mages decide to examine a random Rift and it... doesn't go well..."

He looks sad for a moment, then immediately perks up. "Right, let's move. And there's gonna be a participation prize, so let's keep moving."

You reach the next Rift shortly.

"Right, this is the Sugar Dimension. Relatively benign. It's basically this world if everyone and everything were made from sweets. Even the paper's made of spun sugar. Just don't go wandering in the forests after dark."

>What Now?

>>33032918
What's in the forests after dark? Illuminate me, please.

"Well, you see, part of the magic that animates that world will occasionally add too much gingerbread or whatever onto a normal creature. So what WOULD have been a candy-floss canary is now a Pop Roc. Or a Black-Licorice Bear is now a Dire Root Bear. Another odd quirk of those freaks of nature is that they only come out at night."

So what you seem to be getting from this is that the Sugar Dimension is LOW LEVEL at day, and HIGH LEVEL at night.

He offers you the telescope again.

Take a look around the Sugar Dimension. Is there a Big Rock Candy Mountain?

Tempted to say WEED Dimension but nah, that's something to gaze upon in private. pic related, one of the scenic vistas

What are it's inhabitants like? Andrea was there before, wasn't she?

(More like KITKATCOR *gets shot*)

You look through the telescope. It is apparently dusk. You watch, and everything seems peaceful... and as the sky darkens, you suddenly see something shift amongst the trees. It slowly moves towards the telescope, and as it reaches your viewpoint, it peers right through at you, a single milky-white jawbreaker eye, peering into your eyes.

You stop looking through the telescope.

"Now, we've only got one more, and then an AREA of Rifts, and then we're done. Cmon, let's go."

He runs off to the next rift, and you reach it quickly. As you run, though, Andrea pats you on the shoulder. "The Gingerbread men are really nice! The cities are totally safe, just watch out for the forests."

"Right, final singular Rift." Bernie says. "This leads to the Nightmare Dimension. I will not show you this, because I don't want you to have a heart attack. All I will say is that you need to be VERY powerful before you risk this place. Any questions?"

>What Now?
>>
>>33033324
Yeah. Is the nightmare dimension nothing but sexy ladies expressing disinterest in us?
>>
>>33033366
I think it's a world set up to cultivate the feelings that NTR gives you. This does not light my fire.
>>
>>33033366
He frowns at you. "Very funny. Try sexy ladies that are really just the Lures to gigantic Anglerfish made of those dreams that made you wet yourself when you were three, and all the secret fears nobody knows about. The ones you have deep down." He pokes you in the chest when he says "deep down".

You get the feeling he's not messing around.

He turns around and claps his hands. Right, now to the Patron's Realms, then we're done and you get your participation reward. Cmon." he dashes off, and you keep up with him pretty well. Eventually, you reach a hill featuring eight large stones.

"Right, these are the Patron's Domains. Inside each is the Domain of each Cosmic Patron of the Magic Types. Just a hint? Don't stay long if you decide to head in. There are Guardians."

>What Now?
>>
>>33033495
The guardians are even hostile to practitioners of that particular magic?
>>
>>33033495

Why aren't we supposed to stay in the patron domains? Wouldn't the Pulse want me to come, like, hang out?
>>
WHOOPS NEVER MIND, I'm going to a place with terrible wi-fi for the rest of the night, so I can't communicate with all you fine people! End of Thread 2 I guess!

I'm so sorry. Someone else'll have to Archive it.
>>
Wait, hold on, nevermind, give me a few minutes, if I don't come back you'll know what happened.

Aw hell man, I was seconds away from beating you. I prefer the shorter description "In which Samuel gets high and sees other dimensions"

>>33033731
I like the word "frolic"
>>
>>33033754
We can reach a compromise while still keeping the humor. Replace "sees" with "frolics through".

Right, just came back to say I will be holding another Q&A tomorrow at 3:00 PM! Be there, or be a rectangular object!
