Long ago, mankind was scattered, living in small groups on the backs of the gargantuan Lion Turtles. Man knew little of the world beyond the turtles and simply referred to it all as the "Sprit Wilds". They ventured into the wilds only to gather food, granted elemental power by the Lion Turtles to defend themselves from beasts and spirits. Everything changed when a man named Wan was banished from his Lion Turtle, and roamed the wilds, carrying the power of fire as his defense. He befriended spirits, and eventually joined forces with Raava, the spirit of light. She helped him master all four elements, and the two merged in order to defeat Vaatu, the spirit of darkness. After the great battle, the spirits left the physical world, and the humans left the Lion Turtles, creating kingdoms in what was once wilderness. However, these kingdoms soon came to conflict. The Northern, Central, and Southern Kingdoms made war on one another. Wan attempted to stop the conflict, but failed, dying in the first battle of the great war (cont)

Years later, another man with mastery over all four elements appeared, and with his incredible power, managed to stop the war. He died soon after, and a new Avatar was born. However, this Avatar perished before anyone even truly understood what he was. It has been sixteen years since the last Avatar died, and many believe that never again will someone come to master all four elements. Worse, benders are becoming increasingly rare, and few have any real mastery over their powers. The future of the world is uncertain as the three kingdoms find themselves on the brink of war, and fear of bending vanishing altogether grows.

>Welcome to Avatar Quest. Here are the rules.

Decisions are made by vote. Each vote has a ten minute interval, after which, the option that receives the most votes it the one that is chosen.

There are no write-ins unless explicitly stated

Some options require rolls. In that event, rolls will be out of 100. Whether rolls succeed or fail is decided by the first three rolls. If one passes, then you succeed regardless of the other two. Rolls will really only occur during training, or when trying something new.
All decisions are final. If you regret voting for something, too bad. Think carefully before you make decisions.

Try to keep waifu bullshit to a minimum.

You grew up in Biànhù, the capital of the Northern Kingdom, with your parents, your older brother, Bulo, and your younger brother, Sonyo. Your parents are highly respected veterans of the great war, and, on top of that, gifted with the rare skill of Earthbending. You and your brothers inherited the gift, and for these reasons, your family has always been held in high regard.

Now, you and your family travel West, tasked by the Queen with creating a new city. Your family departed alone, with a second group set to follow the next day. All of the current settlements within the Northern Kingdom are on the coast, or at least close to it, with the lands to the West almost entirely unexplored. You have been taking a straight path East for nearly a week, spending each day walking through forest and each night camping beneath the trees. Your parents have told you that you will keep going until you find a suitable place to build homes.

"Are we there yet?" Sonyo whines as you make your way through the dense trees.

"We don't even know where "there" is," Bulo points out, rolling his eyes at your younger brother.

"We've been walking for sooooo long," Sonyo replies, crossing his arms and huffing.

"And we'll keep walking until we find the right place," your father tells him for the fifth time today, narrowing his green eyes in irritation at having to repeat himself yet again.

"What sort of criteria do you have in mind?" you ask your father. "We could range ahead, or to the side and get a better lay of the land."

"No, we are all going to stick together," your mother tells you. "These wilds are unexplored, so there's no telling what's out here. We're much safer together."

"What are we afraid of? We're Earthbenders!" Sonyo yells loudly, probably alerting plenty of nearby creatures to your location.

"Yes, we're Earthbenders, which means we can lift rocks and throw them in a straight line," Bulo points out. "If someone were to...I don't know, duck or sidestep, we'd be screwed."

Sonyo glares at your older brother. "Nuh-uh! Nobody can stand against my Earthbending power!"

To demonstrate his power, he brings a small chunk of ground up and hurls it into a nearby tree.

"That tree seems to still be standing," Bulo observes.

"That's enough," your mother tells your siblings.

"To answer your question, we're looking for flat, open land," your father tells you.

"In a forest?" Sonyo asks.

"We were told to go West, in a straight path so we'd be easy to follow," your mother tells him. "Besides, forests tend to have clearings."

"Why not make our own clearing?" you ask. "We could use our Earthbending to knock over some trees."

"Yeah! That sounds awesome!" Sonyo exclaims, wasting no time in hurling rocks at the nearest tree.

"Well, that would provide us with some lumber, and allow our new city to be a bit closer to the rest of the kingdom," your mother admits. "The only issue I can see is that it would be difficult to knock over enough trees with our bending."

"We can handle it," Bulo tells her, joining Sonyo in battering a nearby tree with stones.

Your mom shrugs, a smile playing along her lips. "Alright then."

She stomps her right foot in front of her, and does an uppercut, freeing a large piece of earth from the ground. Punching forward, she sends the earth chunk crashing into the tree. Your father does the same, and between the four of them, the tree soon comes crashing down.

They set to work on the next tree, and this time you join in, helping them bring it down quickly with your Earthbending power.

The forest is soon filled with the sounds of earth being ripped up and trees being knocked down, but you begin to take notice of another sound; a low growl.

You ask your family if they heard the noise, shouting so that you're heard above the sounds they are creating with their work.

"What noise?" Sonyo shouts back as he continues to pummel innocent trees with stones.

Your mother and father, however, stop what they're doing and look around, trying to see what you might have heard. As it turns out, they don't have to look for long. The growling becomes louder, and you soon realize it's coming from more than one source.

A large figure leaps into the "clearing". It stands on four legs, supporting a hairy body. It's head is scaly, in contrast to the rest of it, and ends in a long, narrow snout. It opens its mouth and lets out a hiss, giving you a good look at its many rows of jagged teeth. Yu recognize the creature at once.

A crocodile wolf. These predators lurk in the forests near your home, and are a danger to any who do not exercise caution while traveling through them.

Your father turns towards it and brings a large chunk of Earth out of the ground, hurling it into the creature's side. It lets out a yelp and falls on its other side as four more Crocodile Wolves leap from the trees, surrounding you and your family.

Each one selects a target and slowly approaches. You find yourself watching as one of the beasts begins to make its way towards you, baring its teeth and preparing to leap at you.

You stay where you are, waiting for the creature to make its move. You don't have to wait long, as it soon leaps into the air. Seizing your chance, you quickly pull a chunk of rock from the ground and throw it as hard as you can at the Crocodile Wolf. You strike it in its belly, knocking it onto its back, the rock landing on top of it and pinning it to the ground.

Looking around, you see that your mother and father have dealt with their attackers, and are now helping your brothers fight off the remaining Crocodile Wolves. With four Earthbenders fighting two wolves, the battle doesn't last long.

In the end, only two of the creatures make it back into the forest, with the other three crushed flat by Earth. Everyone looks around at one another, taking in the fact that you're all alright.

Sonyo's face breaks into a grin. "That was awesome!"

"That was pretty exciting," Brulo agrees.

Your parents, however, seem less thrilled, and rather than smiling and celebrating, continue to eye the nearby trees warily.

With that, you mom and dad get to work preparing dinner. Sonyo walks over to you and stands on his tip-toes, whispering in your ear.

"For one thing, the Queen loves demonstrating "the superiority of benders"," your mother tells you. "She figures that having a family of Earthbenders leading an expedition into an uncharted land and building a successful city there will really drive her point home."

Your father's eyes narrow as he glances at your mother. "She also knows that your mother and I are veterans of the great war. So, she believes that we are well suited for tackling a potentially dangerous situation," he explains, focusing his gaze on you.

"So, since we were a well known family of benders headed by two veterans, she saw us as the perfect people for this," your mother concludes.

Finding yourself curious, you ask your parents to explain the Queen's "Bender Superiority" position.

"Well, a long time ago, people lived on the backs of giant creatures called Lion Turtles" your father explains. "We didn't usually leave the turtles, because the outside world was full of spirits that could do horrible things for us. We only went into the wilds when absolutely necessary, to get the food we needed to survive. The Lion Turtles gave us bending to protect ourselves, and it worked. Eventually, the Avatar came along, and, with his power to bend all four elements, banished the spirits from the world, allowing people to leave the Lion Turtles without constantly living in fear."

"Because of this, the Queen, and many others, believe that only benders can lead people to a brighter future, and protect us from the dangers of the world," your mother explains, disapproval evident in her voice. "And with benders becoming less common, she's doing everything she can to convince everyone that bending must be preserved, bending bloodlines continued, and so on."

Your father gives your mother a disapproving look, and you decide to change the subject.

"How is the other group going to know where we are?" you ask.

"We're supposed to start a fire, and let the smoke lead them to us," your father explains.

"In the middle of a forest?" Bulo asks.

"We were supposed to find a clearing," your father reminds him.

"Still, what if there's an ACTUAL forest fire or something?" Bulo asks. "Wouldn't that put them off our trail and cause them to get lost, or, you know, killed in a forest fire?"

"See? I'm not the only one who thinks so," Bulo states to them.

"I agree, but we were given our instructions, and one doesn't just disobey instructions from the Queen," your mother tells the two of you.

"And how exactly would she know if we did things slightly different?" Bulo asks.

"Yeah, we already made our own clearing instead of finding one!" Sonyo points out.

"And it's not one that can be used," says a voice behind you.

Turning around, you see five people walk into the "clearing". One is a tall man with shoulder length brown hair and a clean shaven face. Next to him stands a young woman with her brown hair tied into a ponytail. From behind them come three teenagers that look about your age. One is a boy with scruffy brown hair and dark brown eyes. "So, who are you guys?" you ask.

"We're the group that was sent to follow you," the man from the other family explains, stating the obvious.

"I'm Ren," he tells you.

"I'm Lee," his son says.

"I'm Sena," the mother introduces.

"I'm Galda," the girl with the shoulder-length hair tells you.

"I'm Felna," the long-haired girl says.

"I'm Sonyo!" your brother tells them.

"I'm Bulo," your older brother adds.

"I'm Greto," your father says.

"I'm Talga," your mom says last.

You introduce yourself, and everyone resumes their meal.

"You know, you guys make a lot of noise," Felna speaks up.

"Yeah," Galda agrees. "We hard you a while before we saw the smoke."

"You should hear us when we actually try," you tell them.

Felna chuckles, "I'll bet the Queen would be able to hear it from all the way out here."

"I bet we could be even louder," Lee tells you.

"Enough," Sena tells him. "Let's try to have a nice dinner without driving our hosts insane."

"Well, we are all going to be living together, so it's probably best that we get used to one another's personalities," your mom tells her.

"Good point," Ren responds.

It has less risk of offense than asking if they're benders.

"YOU GUY BENDERS OR NAW?"

Having trouble seeing how that's rude.
>>
>>33056085
It was just established that the Queen thinks benders are superior. It implies that there's a developing class stratification based around bending ability. We don't want to come off like we might be looking down on them if they're not benders. So we shouldn't seem like we're too interested in it.

"So, how were you guys chosen for this?" you ask.

Ren stops eating. "Well, the Queen is my sister," he says casually before resuming his meal.

>>33056206
Yeah, I had fun. Went a bit slow, but that's usual for first threads in quests. I do have one question:

We're from the Northern Kingdom. But we're traveling west and not on the coast. So we're probably from the northeast of the continent that would eventually become the Earth Kingdom. So who was the opponent in the war our parents fought in? Other nearby Earth civilizations before they consolidated or the ancestors of the Water Tribe?

More like Bronze Age, if we're going by the Lion-Turtle Cities origin for humanity. We've got metalworking and ceramics and agriculture, but nothing really advanced yet.
