You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After a rousing breakfast with the Princess, the two of you headed to her first class for the day- Sir Gregory's lectures.

And the first thing he talked about is that Marconetti's borders are closed.

>Congratulations, you are now a timid LLAMA!
>Llamas are strong and hardy... but also rather skittish.
>The Princess considers you to be her friend!
>But while llamas may be majestic, they still don't count as people.

>"While I had something else in mind to talk about today, I guess this is more immediately relevant... as of today, Celestino's tightened border security between our countries a LOT."
>"Wha!?" Marianne gasps. "Is Marconetti under attack?"
>"No," he shakes his head. "From what I understand, it's a preemptive measure. For the foreseeable future, he's restricting travel in and out of Marconetti to essential services and royal matters."

"B... but it's been well over a decade since he closed the borders for -any- reason, right?" Marianne asks. "Even as a preemptive measure, I can't see him doing something with such a potentially drastic effect on the populace without good reason..."
"Same here," Sir Gregory replies. "My guess is that he's hot on the tail of those bastards who tried to kill all of us the other day, and doesn't want to risk them slipping into another country."
"Did he say-"
"Of course not," he sighs. "That info's way too delicate to risk sending through something like a messenger bird, it's way too easy to intercept those. It's just my personal hunch, that's all."
"Of all the things to have happen..." Marianne places a hand to her forehead. "

>ask him about Citrine or Agnes entering the country

Family and all, we have to know!
>>
The Rein x Nico x Meido scenario has been bugging me for quite a while. It seems borderline impossible to me, but Arch apparently does not think so. So I tried to analyze it rigorously.

The first problem is for each of the three of them to coincidentally fall in love with the other two at the same time, which isn't exactly likely. But let's admit it for the sake of the exercize.

The second issue is communication, and none among the three is very good at it. You'll remember that in the "canon" game, Nico confessed to Melon by accident and to Reinhold after having been pressured into it, and Reinhold himself ended the waifu wars after a particularly stressful turn of events and partially out of jealousy.

Worse, they all have personal hang-ups that might seriously hinder this scenario ever coming on the table:

Reinhold is already afraid of the most vanilla type of relationships, it's unlikely that he's going to be considering a ménage à trois. Bigger problem: He has shitty self-esteem and is probably going to have the train of thoughts: "If I'm attracted to both of them at once, I'm a scumbag who deserves neither. I'm just going to sacrifice myself and let them be together."

>[1/?]
>>
>>33097267

>ask him about Citrine or Agnes entering the country
>>
>>33097335

Melanie comes from a background that doesn't make it sound like she'd think those kinds of relationships are acceptable, but why assume? I'm more concerned about the inferiority complex she could have between Nicolette, the girl she's admired for a long time, Reinhold, the handsome swordsman (who would also have an heterosexual and thus "acceptable" relationship with Nicolette), and herself, simple maid. She's likely to have the same reflex as Reinhold, particularly if she feels that Nico deserves an heterosexual relationship.

Nicolette is in the position with the most power, but she's got complexes alright and has shown herself to be willing to step down when in a love triangle situation. Some guilt-filled reasoning like "If I take the both of them for myself, I'm being a little hedonistic spoiled brat" is likely.

Additional issue: Concerns over what will people think of them. Reinhold in particular would suspect that Gregory would murder him for "cheating" on his little girl. Or be concerned that he'd appear as some kind of lust-filled pig to his other friends.

>[2/3]
>>
>>33097355

The conditions I see as needed for even making that scenario possible:
>the three of them know, or strongly suspect, that they're all attracted to the other two and getting increasingly flustered over it - which would need tons of innuendos, almost-confessions and moments of tension
>each one comes to the conclusion that he/she wouldn't mind sharing if it's with the other two
>people around them are noticing, and hinting that they wouldn't have a problem with it - this is especially important on Gregory's part
>no other girl is present in the Reinbowl, based on previous flags being missed
>alcohol would help, but then Reinhold doesn't drink

Seems to me like, if most of those conditions were met, Nicolette could propose it (as a joke? in a frustrated outburst?). She's the only one in the position to say it - Reinhold would feel like a creep for doing so and Melanie would need to feel like an equal to those two people of greater social standings (well, sort of for Reinhold), and I think she lacks the confidence needed. Though I don't know if Morning Meido wouldn't be desinhibited enough to do so.

You're factoring in Reinhold's personality, but you're forgetting that we're the ones who gave him intimacy and self-esteem issues.

That aside, the main point is that there was the possibility of a harem route.

Great. Citrine and Marius were staying over there for a few days longer than you, not to mention that Agnes was planning on paying you a visit...

"Umm, Sir Gregory?" you speak up.
"What is it?" Sir Gregory turns to you.
"My sister and her husband, do you know if they made it back into the country before King Celestino closed the borders? And my grandmother was talking about visiting too..."

You'd really hate for them to be stuck over there indefinitely.

"Oh yeah, the artist and his wife," Sir Gregory snaps his fingers. "Celestino actually had his men escort them safely into Granache, he held off on closing the borders until immediately after the excort went back to Marconetti."
"So you mean they're-"
"Yeah, they're back home, safe and sound. So you don't have to worry about that."

That's a relief. Maybe Marianne will let you pay them a visit tomorrow...

"Oh, but what about my Grandma?" you ask.
"You mean Agnes?" Sir Gregory replies. "I haven't heard anything about her coming over... and there's no way in hell Celestino would let her of all people leave the country without an escort he picked out himself so I guess she's still over there."
"Oh," you nod. "Okay. Thanks."

It might not have all been good news, but at least she should be safe.

Monique is entertaining and Gregory is moe. Arnaud sounds cool but we saw too little of him. Niklaus and Marius are pretty alright too. Aquaman has been sparingly used, which I think is a good thing, but downside is we can't really judge him.

With your personal concerns dealt with for now, you decide that now is the time to keep quiet. Sir Gregory spend the rest of his lecture talking about the various effects that a country closing its borders has on commerce and the economy and even relations with other countries.

Fortunately, Marconetti's on pretty good terms with most of its neighbors so he thinks that things won't be too negatively affected as long as Celestino doesn't keep the borders closed for too long. And the only neighboring country that Marconetti -isn't- on good terms with is Ancellotta, and that border is always closed so it isn't any different from how things are to begin with.

Before long, the lecture ends and the two of you make your way out into the hallways and onwards to your next destination- the courtyard.

"What, you're thinking of running off to do adventurer stuff?" you ask, a wide grin on your face.
"Yeah right," she rolls her eyes. "That's just trading mental stress with physical stress. Not to mention the whole 'fighting for your life' thing."

Suddenly your mind flashes to that picture of Marianne with the halberd... but you decide not to foul her mood any more than it already has been by mentioning it.

And so, Elena treats you and Marianne with some HUGE cinnamon rolls that she apparently baked with her aunt and Luciana. After finishing those off, you went about fulfilling the promise that you made with the little Princess the day before, and show her the current usable state of your sword.

You also show off a few of your moves and try to see if you can manipulate the sword some... luckily, you're (slightly) successful and avoid looking stupid in front of your girlfriend's little sister.

But sadly, you have to cut your little exhibition short. After all, you -do- kind of have to accompany Marianne to her next class.

"Try not to overdo it with the swords," she says, smirking at you. "I'm sure that you don't want to make your future father-in-law angry with you, after all."
"Yeah, yeah..." you sigh. "...I was thinking about making this bracelet turn into a bunny shape, but I can't really manipulate it much at all," you say, holding up your arm so that it's at eye level.

You can't help but notice that she backed away from you a little bit.

"I'm not sure that Celestino would appreciate you involving his daughter with the product of Niklaus's experiments, either..." Marianne says.
"What, it's safe!" you say. "My old bracelet that got used to fix my sword even saved my life a few times."

"Scheduling conflicts," Marianne replies. Sylvie's doing a bit of research in the one that we were at yesterday so we're going to be at this one today since I don't want to bother her."
"Oh."
"Besides, I know that you're in a rush to leave and spending time talking to her would only serve to slow us down."

Without even waiting for a response from you, Marianne makes her way into the library and takes a seat at the nearest table. You guess Gerhard brought the stuff she as reading yesterday over here.

"Well, might as well take a..." you say, reaching into your jacket. "...crap."

"Uh... would there be any chance of that book you found for me being in this library too?" you ask.
"Honestly..." Marianne sighs.

And then she points to a book that's already on the table.

"Huh?" you pick it up, and... it's the exact book that you were looking for.
"Apparently, Gerhard assumed that this book as part of the class materials so he brought it here along with the other ones."
"I guess I'm going to have to thank him for that," you say, shrugging.

With that, Marianne resumes her book reading and you do the same.

"There shall be a beast," God said unto the world, "with a great scaled body as powerful as the Lightning, and wings that shall allow it to dance upon the Wind like no other. And as it has the powers of these two Elements, it shall be the only beast of Flesh that I shall allow to have Horns."

Prior to this point, the only creatures with Horns were the Spirits who had formed from Lightning and Wind. While the World did not understand the reason why God wished for such a thing, it did as it was told. This was the first Dragon, created exactly as God had specified.

Yet God was still not satisfied with this.

"This shall be the greatest of all creatures of Flesh," God said unto the World. "It shall not grow weak with the passing of Time. No, it shall instead grow stronger with each passing day."

The World did as it was told, but the prospect of a beast which lived on the Planet with ever-increasing power worried the World, for such a thing could potentially destroy the entire Planet which had taken so long to reach its present form.

And so the World asked God to limit this, but God would not relent.

>[2/?]

>>33101009

God is just a Dragon fanboy, right? Poor World.

>dude, but like, DRAGONS
>okay, okay, I'll see what I can do, bro
>>
>>33101009

But God did take the World's concerns to heart, for He knew that the World wished only to please Him. And so he said:

"The Dragon shall live with the other creatures for a thousand years, and then it shall rise to the Heavens and explore my Creation. It shall Change to a greater form, and will itself bring Change to the rest of Creation, for this pleases me."

And so it was, and the World was pleased. But God was not yet done.

"And this Dragon," said God, "it shall also be able to take a form such as my own. If it so wishes, it may live its days upon the Planet in this way, or as the true Dragon instead. It matters to me not, for this brings variety and fights the Stagnation that I so despise."

With this final request, the Dragon was complete. God was pleased with this, and bade the World to create several more so that they could spread over the Planet and multiply.

Each and every Dragon took their place at the top of God's Creation, and found their niches within the Planet. Their bodies changed to match their environment, as did their very Souls, and so there were Dragons of Fire and Lightning, dragons of Wind and Water, dragons of Earth and Ice, dragons of Light and Darkness.

These dragons lived upon the Planet and communed with one another and developed their own imperfect Language, and for a time, God was pleased.

Anthropocentrism.
Keep in mind that this isn't necessarily fact.

Also keep in mind that there is a tndency for things in this world to become a more "human" shaped form.

>>
>>33101082

Countless aeons passed, and things were good. But slowly, God began to grow bored with his Creation. While his Dragons were perfect in all the ways that he specified, God was disappointed in their actions. Their long lives were such that they wanted for very little, and their societies soon formed a hierarchy based on age. Old respected young, and none strove to improve themselves since even the weakest among them would one day grow into a powerful Dragon.

And so, God spake unto the world:

"I shall create a new creature. It shall bear a form similar to mine, as the Dragons do, and this is the only form it will have. Weak in body and short in years, only through its own actions will it be able to advance to the level of the other creatures on the Planet which possess souls."

The world did not understand the meaning of this. Why could God purposefully create such an imperfect creature? But still it did as it was instructed.

"This creature shall be called Man," said God, "and I declare that he be at the lowest of all sentient beings. But unlike those other creatures which are naturally powerful, Man shall be able to raise his position in the world and become that which he desires. He shall be able to Contract with those greater than he, and should the Dragons take pity on him, he may join their ranks. And should he raise his own ability, he shall Ascend to the state of being of the Spirits which first populated the Planet. Though Man shall be born the weakest of all things, he shall have the potential to match any creature that exists."

And so, Man was created.

Good.
>>
>>33101247

At first, Men lived no differently from any other beast. But over time, they gained the attention of Dragons, who gifted him with their Culture. And the Spirits found them to be interesting, forming Contracts and living as their protectors.

Jealous of the other creatures which lived long lives and held great powers, Man was the first to learn how to use Language in order to speak to the World, and this was the first Magic. And with this Magic, Mankind created and destroyed and brought more Change unto the Planet than any other creature.

And so, God was very pleased. Though Mankind was the weakest and most imperfect of his creations, it also brought him the greatest amount of joy.

Closing the book, you place it on the table and then follow the Princess out of the library.

The Etiquette class goes by pretty quickly, mostly because you were too fixated on ARIANE'S HOME COOKING than on the contents of the lesson. It was something about flower arrangement, you think.

With that done with, you wslk the Princess to her room, and she wishes you good luck with your upcoming dinner with a certain Knight who she doesn't like very much.

And when she walks into her room and closes the door behind her, you are free.

I think this is a decent place to stop for the night.
Kind of a slow thread, but I did enjoy finally getting to write out the rest of that there "creation" story.

The next thread will be on Monday night, when we'll finally get to happy Gregory family adventures.
Maybe a lolifight while I'm at it, but I can't really guarantee anything there.

and now I take questions for the next however long.

Thierri's fine with it, though he honestly expects her to run off and have an adventure or two, meeting a husband that way.
It's pretty much up in the air at the moment, though.

And now I sleep. Thanks for playing!
