Black Jack is rocked backwards under the sheer force of the 90mm T54 main gun firing. The distance is too short and the velocity is too great for you to see the HVAP shell reaching out- from your periscope you only see a great cloud of flame and smoke and, as the smoke clears, a great cloud of smoke floating up from the rear of Erika's Tiger II.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and you immediately whoop with joy. "Direct hit! Gunner, confirm?"

Rose still hasn't come back from her little world yet. "Confirmed, hit." She says. "Target is still active." You blink.

"What?" You ask, a bit confused- generally a hit from 'Jack is enough to put down anything. You put your eye on the periscope again and a tingling sensation of panic creeps down your spine- the Tiger II's turret is still rotating back around towards you, without a white flag in sight.

I Thought we ended this last thread! Damn you BJ!
>>
>>33116645
it was a 90mm HVAP shot in the ASS at 30m, that will smash a hole through the armor, and probably go through the entire tank whatever is behind it, or with magic bullshit lining deform structure and push the damn tank a couple meters.
>>
Does degree refer to the slope of the armor? According to wikipedia a Tiger II has 80mm @ 60 degrees on the rear hull, and 80mm @ 70 degrees on the rear turret.

Do we even know if we penetrated? If so that would surely count as a kill, if this were real the crew would've been torn to ribbons by shrapnel even if the tank remained technically operational.
>>
>>33116734
Ok. What's your rebuttal or point?
>>
>>33116776
As in they should be dead and its obvious given how knocking out tanks works in tankery and how much energy a 90mm HVAP is pushing at literally point blank.
>>
>>33116875
Again, that's very nice and pretty and I love some fireworks as much as the next guy but if the shot doesn't hit anything important and the tank is combat effective then bad luck.
>>
>>33116747
Penetration of 90mm HVAP at 1000 yards is 300mm at 30 degrees. We were at 30 yds
>>
>>33116278
>Back around the corner- she's still immobilized.

Also, just finished this this morning, figured I'd share http://youtu.be/8j9dEXl3bvQ
>>
>>33116954
Except for 1 we hit it from behind which is where the drivetrain engine and exhaust are. Moreover the amount of energy being put out at point blank is more than enough for it to smash through the engine into the fighting compartment. In addition, the fact that any penetration in Tankery is a kill outside of an isolated incident involving main character shields (which are bullshit anyway). Therefore bullshit on this and bullshit on your "didn't hit anything important" malarkey
>>
>>33116954
With that much kinetic energy being transferred by the projectile, Any hit at all will utterly fuck the tank in some way or another.

"Not hitting anything important" is WoT "Track ate the shell" bollocks.

I'm just giving a possible explanation that fits the information we have. I don't really have any other idea why that Tiger 2 is still moving other than maybe we loaded HE by accident or something.

I suppose Erika could be cheating but that seems unlikely.

>>
>>33117187

I was going to ask about cheating, and whether it was possible. It seems pretty out of character for Kuro and for someone like Erika who believes in their own inherent superiority.

Also, I think the explosion and black smoke indicates that we hit the engine. I don't see how a tank is "combat effective" when its engine is destroyed, could you even rotate the turret without a battery set-up like we've got? Is that what a Tiger II has?
>>
>>33117284
All Tigers had manual geared cranks for their turrets.

So an engine going offline won't completely remove the ability to traverse, just making it *really* slow.
>>
>>33117191
Eerie, I just watched that episode last night.
>>
>>33117331
given that the hydralic took a while to turn 180 we probably have 40+ seconds to kill it with hand crank, easily more.

owered turret traverse was provided by the variable speed Boehringer-Sturm L4S hydraulic motor which was driven from the main engine by a secondary drive shaft. A high and a low speed setting was available to the gunner via a lever on his right.[18] The turret could be rotated 360 degrees in 60 seconds in low gear independent of engine rpm, in 19 seconds in high gear at idle engine speed, and within 10 seconds at the maximum allowable engine speed. The direction and speed of traverse was controlled by the gunner through pedals, or a control lever near his left arm.[18] The system was smooth and accurate enough to be used for final gun laying without the gunner needing to use his traverse hand wheel for fine adjustments — which was needed by most other tanks of the period. If power was lost, the turret could be slowly traversed by hand, assisted by the loader who had an additional wheel
>>
>>33117331
As in, manual hand-cranks; geared down to all fuck so that madly pumping a small hand-wheel would move the huge multi-ton turret.

Go read the Tigers in the Mud comic for a practical example.
>>
>>33116278

>>33117331

Well, I still stand by my vote of backing around the corner. Perhaps if we'd had more a clue as to where we hit the Tiger or the speed at which its turret is traversing we could have tried to reload and fire again, but we don't.

Except that's not how GuP's tankery rules work from what we see in the manga and show. Mobility kill = white flag, with the exception of track separation for some reason.

Honestly I'm not one to argue with QMs pointlessly but I'm curious how it's even possible this isn't over.

But you're wrong.
In the practice match, Miho's tank takes a shell to the rear, likely fucking up the engine and gearbox, no white flag.
In the Gloriana match the Pz. 38(t) has the track completely fall off, still no flag.
In the Pravda match, the StuG has the track and the rear idler wheel blown off. No flag.
At the end of the Pravda match, the I-Go has basically it's entire suspension taken off by a 122mm shell. Surprise, surprise, no flag.
Final battle, Erika's Tiger II throws a track and takes off a road wheel. Still no flag.
And that's just the ones I can come up with off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more.
I'd say it's pretty clear that MKs do not count as a white flag
>>
Calling bs.

Under normal GuP rules, that's a kill shot.

There's no way we didn't pen.
>>
>>33117882
Agreed. Look at what happened to Leopon in the last episode. That tank was a wreck (mobility wise) and they still had to blast it to hell to white-flag it.
>>
>>33117882
The Practice match was weird all-round; not sure if we should count it.

The rest were all tracking/wheels.
>>
>>33117926
this is all MC character shields though, and Erika throwing a track was not enemy inflicted
>>
You calm yourself slightly- the Tiger II's not alive, just not quite dead- the turret is moving in a slow, jerking motion that betrays the fact that its engine is out- they're actually cranking the turret by hand! "Roy, load AP. We're finishing this." You're actually a bit pissed that the one shot you made didn't instantly knock her out.

"How is it even alive?" Patrick says- just as incredulous as you. "90mm HVAP skewered jadgpanzers from front to rear!"

You shake your head- you don't have a good answer- maybe the round shattered on the engine block, or got deflected down out of the bottom of the tank. There's more important questions than "Why".

"AP Up!" Roy calls.

You stare at the Tiger II, still desperately attempting to bring its gun to bear- it wouldn't even come close. "Finish it, Rose."

She doesn't say a word, just depresses the trigger, sending a heavier armor piercing shell into the rear of the Tiger II.

"Alright, pull back around the corner, Richard." You're pretty sure that the Tiger is finished now- no chances this time, though. You straight the turret out as he reverses back into the alleyway you'd emerged from. As Black Jack returns to the safety of the alley, you unbutton the commander's hatch before turning leaning down to remove Black Jack's fire extinguisher.

"Where are you going?" Roy says as you begin climbing out of the turret.

"Just going to go be magnanimous and stuff." You say with a wry smile. "Richard, keep the engine running."

As you peek back around the corner you finally see the the Tiger II has indeed finally given up- a small white flag having appeared from a hatch on its turret. You calmly, but quickly walk up towards it, pulling the ring on the fire extinguisher and pointing the nozzle at the still-smouldering oil fire.

As you let loose with the Flame-Retardant foam the Tiger's Commander's hatch pops open. "What are you doing?!"

>>
>>33120187
>for an hour
That's actually pretty painful
>>

Ironically, the "Saving your tank" dialogue option actually acknowledges Erika's question.
Unless, the option of "Your crew okay?" tacks in an extra "I'm making sure your crew is okay," the other options beside #1 seem rather dismissive of Erika's line of questioning.

To demonstrate...
>"What are you doing?!
>"Saving your tank."

>"What are you doing?!"
>"Your crew okay?"

>"What are you doing?!"
>"Good fight!"
>>
>>33119848
>"Saving your tank."
>>
"Saving your tank." You say, putting another blast into the smokey remains of the Tiger's rear armor plate- now that the smoke had mostly stopped bellowing from every hole and vent in its engine compartment you can see the damage Black Jack had inflicted- first a smallish whole that had probably been the HVAP round- it had hit low on the plate. Slightly higher you can see the kill shot. The APCBC round had shoved through the plate with all the delicacy of a wrecking ball before exploding inside the compartment.

Erika just stares at you, and you can practically feel the radiated anger. "You fought well." You comment politely as you empty the rest of the canister for good measure before tossing it aside. "I don't think I've ever seen a tank take a shot from the T54 and not immediately be knocked out..."

"You..." Erika says. "You shouldn't have won! It wasn't possible!" She sputters. "You cheated... You knew where I was! You had someone directing you."

"I think we might've put her in a bad mood." You comment as you climb back onto the tank. "I think it might be best to just let her get it out of her system." You check your watch- the entire fight had only taken about an hour and a half. You'd actually expected it to take quite a bit longer, with a Rattenkrieg through the city as you each attempted to stalk and outmaneuver the other.

Fortunately Erika had been much more aggressive than you'd expected- you'd actually be back in time for a late lunch at this rate! You drop down into the commander's hatch before banging on top of the turret. "Alright, Richard- take us home." You say with a grin. "Great job, guys- I think we've proven our point."

Its another half an hour before you pull into the staging point, everyone with a hatch riding unbuttoned as you pass the cheering crowd. You look over at Roy, on the other ride of the turret. "Damn- I don't remember getting a welcome like this back in the states..." He says with a grin, waving at the crowd.

Yukari has the right idea, but her choice toy is rather... disproportioned.
>>
>>33122023
By that look on her face, she isn't all there at the moment.

she's besides herself with lust.
Or blown out of her mind on cordite fumes or something.

Bah.

The Nishizumi style involves training extensively on all German shells, including the 128mm but most commonly the 88.

A little 75mm is easy business for a Nishizumi.
>>
>>33122102
With the Sturmtiger's 380mm shell as ultimate challenge, I assume?
>>
>>33122152
Only Shiho can handle it.
>>
>>33122152
Why do you think everyone calls Shiho a massive cunt?
>>
>>33122152
Technically, it's a naval rocket.
>>
>>33122260
True, true, it was just the widest SPW projectile that came to mind.

Now that I think on it, IIRC, the "Karl-Gerat" had even bigger shells.
>>
>>33122301
800mm was the biggest IIRC.

Secret Nishizumi Technique: Dislocating hips like a snake's jaws to take large loads.
>>
As Richard coasts Black Jack to a stop in front of the temporary hanger that was Oorai's foreward base, so to speak. Miho and most of the rest of Oorai's tank team are already waiting. You practically hop out of the hatch, pushing yourself up and out before sliding down the side of the turret.

Practically the moment your feet touch the ground, Miho is already on you- grappling you for a huge hug. You give her your best wry, American grin. "Make it look easy enough?" You ask, returning her hug in kind.

She doesn't say anything, she just keeps hugging you- you're happy to let it happen. Behind you, the rest of your crew is disembarking to the cheers, and occasional hug of Oorai's tank team. As Miho starts to loosen her grip, Yukari comes running up and envelopes both of you. "You did it, Russells!" She yells. "This is one for the books! This is history! Oh man, I can't believe I was here for something like this..."

After Yukari's hug, you take a step back and look over your tank. Miho keeps an arm around you as you do. "So how'd you do it?" She finally askes. "It's like you knew exactly where she was..."

You laugh a bit- the truth seems so tiny and trivial. "Steel tracks." You say, smiling up at Black Jack. "I was listening to every move she made..."

Nya-HAR! I'm here at the last second!

If Erika persists with her questioning, say this:

"You're right, I did get a helping hand. From YOU. Those steel treads of yours are so loud, all I needed to do was go to my backup motor, and I knew exactly where you were."
>>
>>33123716

Whoops, forgot my tripcode.
>>
>>33122152
Wait...what if Erika upgrades to a Sturmtiger to try and take revenge on us?
>>
>>33124522
>Sturmtiger
>Upgrade

Unless she's challenging us to a "How much ordnance you can fit in your body cavities" contest, I don't think she'll be winning if she tries using 380mm Naval Charges against us.

Dunno, on one hand, the Sturmtiger's rate of fire is so pathetically low that she'd get one chance to take us out.

On the other hand, "380 mm of rocket-propelled FUCK YOU!" With such massive ordnance, even a 'glancing hit' will take anything out.

Good luck hitting anywhere near a moving target though.

It was designed to bring down buildings. It doesn't have the level of control needed to realistically hit a moving target.
>>
>>33125354

Indeed, it would be a terrible choice for one-on-one duels.

However, in a regular match, with teammates running/baiting the opponent into position... Yummy!
>>
>>33125354
>Implying you don't want to bring down a building on top of your foes.
>>
>>33125577

In war certainly!

In sensha-do, not so much. Kindly remember someone gotta pay for the damage don by a match. They would look down on tactics based flattening a couple of buildings just to flush opponents out of hiding.
>>
>>33126071
Not if the team pays for the damages themselves. XCom anyone?
