Chapter strength: 685 brothers
Current location: Farness Beta orbit, Cadian Sector
Chapter wealth: 1188 Wealth
Date: late 343.M41
+++
It was late in 343.M41 before we reached Farness Beta. By then, war was bifurcating the Cadia subsector, and armies of sheer horror were spewing out of the Eye of Terror. Like a whirlpool of fire, the Eye dominated the skies of most gate-worlds, distended and angry, flaring more savagely than at any time in living memory. Every flash and pulse of its maelstrom was another warp hole opening, another flotilla of death unleashed. That spring was known as the Staunch Holding of the Cadian Gate, and entered the history books, as every scholar knows. During the first months of 343, the Cadians saw off the greatest incursion of Chaos suffered in three hundred years. It was almost as if the Archenemy knew something. This isn't going to be easy. My new allies, Ghosts of Retribution, proved to be both resourceful and reliable. I hope that elite Astartes attachment they agreed to send with me will be enough to deal with whatever horrors Quixos holds up his sleeve. I am especially glad that their Chapter Master decided to come with us. He is a very peculiar, completely not like the others of his kind that I have dealt with. He seems to be quite sentimental and thoughtful, but nonetheless he appears to be extremely capable and thinks on a larger scale than just killing his target. This could prove to be a double edged sword, he will not be easy asset to handle. Note to self: check his origins, if we survive. - Gregor Eisenhorn's personal notes, 301.343.M41 (c) Dan Abnett

The problem with the players in this quest is that there is never enough good words to be said about them.

I went missing for a month and Luigi presents us with the most accurate and awesome 3d map of Sector Deus to date!

Well, I know that this cannot be repaid with simple ingame bonuses, but I will try:

+You can pick a canon character of your choice to accompany Inquisitorial taskforce into the depths of Farness Beta to confront Quixos. Character should be alive and mature at the time of our game and can't be above Chapter Master on the badassery scale.

+Chapter Master gains +1 Psychic Rating

I find it odd that for a group going after someone with the daemonic and psykers, no one thought to grab some SoBs for a good old purge of 2 out of 3 of the things they hate most.

That and acts of faith.

Current situation - Thracian 51st and your task force is entering enemy stronghold, massive underground complex which survived your orbital bombardment only because of powerful Alpha+ class psykers who are being used by the enemy. You know that Quixos is hiding inside and you are going to smoke him out of his hole... How will you enter enemy base?
a) Send in guardsmen, we can't waste blood on enemy minions (Shadow Guard Renard)
b) Let's send in our special troops - Kasrkins and Inquisitorial stormtroopers (Inquisitor Eisenhorn)
c) We are the strong ones, we should take the brunt of damage - let's send in the Astartes (Brother Apothcary Neiton)

What shall you do?

IIRC Eisenhorn never had close relationship with Sisters, while he was pretty well connected with military and other Inquisitors.

Please be advised, that these are the best troops you have, in total there are about 350 of them. They will stand their ground against supernatural enemies and against human foes, however their numbers are very limited, compared to around 10 700 infantrymen of the Thrachan 51st(around 1300 perished or fell to radiation fatigue while crossing the nuclear bombardment site). If you agree to put these men at risk, roll 3d100 - losses; enemy losses; how deep do they manage to penetrate. less is better. Also you can(if you wish) deploy Distaff, special unit of blanks trained by Eisenhorn. There's 20 + d10 of them(please roll) avaialble at the moment. You are keeping them at the rear in order not to demoralise your troops.
>>
>>33131462
Alright, can we send them AND the guardsmen in?

Presumably we're deciding who acts as the tip of the spear, I say we send in guardsmen but intersperse storm trooper squads behind the first few ranks, that way enemy emplacements are identified and can be more accurately targeted by the elites.

This will be [Underground] type of combat, it means that you will be able to deploy very limited numbers of troops at the same time, probably passages are wide enough to allow a squad of men to engage at the same time. Another problem with mixing them up is different command structures and combat styles, it would create more confusion than cooperation.
>>33131545
This is possible, it would slow your advance, but minimise losses (for stormtroopers).
>>33131553

>>33131598
Ask Eisenhorn if the shield would protect against the Guardsmen carrying a nuclear weapon inside the bunker, and how much damage it would likely do.
Also, why are we in command? It should be Eisenhorn that's doing this.

>>33131598
I still think we should go with guardsmen and stormtroopers, despite the slower advance.

You are the warriors he brought to help him destroy Quixos. He is an Inquisitor first, warrior second. And despite his deep experience in pursuing investigations, Eisenhorn has never commanded an army in a battle, that's why he leaves tactical planning to you.
+++
Eisenhorn nods:
>Good thinking, shielding can be penetrated by slowly moving objects, such as people, so it would be possible to bring in a tactical nuclear device. I will ask Commander Thorn immediatelly whether they have one available on the spot. (80% chance)

Your plan to coordinate guardsmen and storm troopers seems to have partly worked, your men entered the upper levels of the underground complex, taking out enemy machine gun nests, killing mutants and mad slave-soldiers that Quixos uses to stall your advance. After first suicide bomber took out a whole squad of guardsmen who were marching in the front, there was minor panic, but the Kasrkins who were walking behind restored order and mowed down approaching enemy force. Later your men became more careful, realising that they are playing on the enemy home ground, where they have the advantage. In total you have lost 300+2d10x10 gaurdsmen and d10x5 specialist troops. You control 2d10% of the enemy base. You estimate that you have killed around 300+d5x100 enemy minions. You may roll d100 for Strategy(+0) to estimate how many minions does enemy have.

Well last session it was assumed that you will teleport into the base with the Inquisitors as soon as the guardsmen bring the transmitter beacons, however if you wish, you can return to the orbit. Inquisitors however do prefer to stay on the ground due to the possible use of supernatural by the enemy, which conventional force wouldn't be able to counter.
You have Omniscio and Tempestus, chaplains with you. All sanctioned IG psykers were ordered to stay in the ships due to possible dark influence by the enemy or discomfort caused by the Distaff if deployed.
