You’ve just finished making your arrangement with Thomas Shabboneau. The meteorite will remain in your possession, on the condition that you’d bring back the creature within if it ever reveals itself.

With that settled, you now needed to decide what you wished to do next.

You decide to keep looking through the library, as it's unlikely you'd have another opportunity to do so any time soon.

You've looked through several of the books around the room, and there are many more still. Of course, there are several other objects around as well.

You decide to keep looking through the books, heading over to another shelf.

The first book you flip open just seems to be pages upon pages of dots. They are arranged in rows and columns, but there are missing dots everywhere. If there's any sort of pattern to it, you're not seeing it.

The next book you flip open seems to be some sort of record. You don't recognize recognize the words, but you do recognize the language. It's that of the large empire that used to span across the continent several centuries ago. Unfortunately, you have no real way to tell what these records signify.

You decide to go for a book off the top of the shelf, though you have a bit of difficulty reaching it. In order to reach it, you set up a chair to stand on. Unfortunately, you lose your balance, resulting in you and a large number of books ending up on the floor.

After apologizing heavily and helping to clean up your mess, you consider what to do next.

You decide to give up on the research for now, turning your attention to other matters.

You still needed to decide where your next destination was, so you gather up all of your companions to discuss the matter.

Since the town was attacked from the west, that meant the army would be in a similar direction. Their options for getting here would be around the mountains to the south, over the very same mountains, or along the river, which fed out near a few coastal towns. Depending on where the full force was located, you'd need to alter your route.

Heading back to your hometown was the obvious decision. However, getting there would require either crossing a desert, or going towards a place likely occupied by the enemy army. You were also worried that your hometown might have been attacked, since Valough was just across the sea from it.

The capital would have news of any such attacks, and was in a rather central location if you decided to head elsewhere. It was also a very likely target to be attacked eventually, and you're not sure if you want to get caught up in a full siege.

"I think it's time we headed home," you begin, "Lisa, would you be opposed to crossing a desert in order to get there?"

"Not at all," she replies, "I've been hunting there quite a few times with my dad."

"Great. That settles that," you continue, "I suppose you'll be staying here, Lady Shabboneau."

"Yes," she states, "While it's been quite enjoyable, I feel as though I've had my fill of excitement for now. It seems to have a habit of finding you."

"And what about you, Richard?"

"I'll be headed back to the capital," he answers, "I'll need to find Sir Davis and help him with this war."

It seems you'll all be going your separate ways.

You then consider the route you'll be taking back to your home. There's a rather large forest you'll need to cross through before arriving at a mountain pass. Once you get through there, your hometown is just across the desert on the other side.

Thomas is rather generous with giving you supplies and provisions, and you should have more than enough to make it to your destination.

Was there anything else you'd like to take care of before you left?

"Thomas, before I go, there was something I wanted you to take a look at," you say, taking out the ornate silver flute you bought in the capital.

Thomas takes it in his hands, looking it over, tracing the golden leaf patterns on its side. He attempts to play it, but it produces no noise for him either.

"This is indeed a mysterious object, and I'd say with certainty it's connected to a legend in some way," he begins, "The leaf pattern would suggest a connection to the forest or nature, which narrows down the list. The specific entity would be a more difficult question. It could be anyone from the Ruler of Spring to the Patron of Flowers. In any case, I believe this flute has a specific effect related to one of them, and it will only make noise when particular conditions are met. It might be an eclipse, a solstice, or even something as basic as playing it in the legend's presence. Quite a remarkable object, to be sure."

You thank him for his assessment, glad that you didn't spend all of your money on a broken flute.

With your business in Camphrier town concluded, you and Lisa prepare to depart. You leave using the west gate, waving back as the guards and the Shabboneau siblings give you a sendoff.

There isn't a well kept road to the north, meaning you and Lisa end up having to follow the winding trails used by travelers. The first leg of your journey is through the fields of shoulder-high grass to the north of the town. While you and Lisa don't have much trouble with it, Riolu and Froakie are busy competing for a spot on your head, away from the thick foliage.

You haven't had a good chance to practice your Aura sight while moving. Now seemed like a good opportunity.

You slow your pace a bit as you focus, reaching out to your surroundings. It's a bit disorienting at first, but soon you've found your stride. The field is positively filled with grass. It's almost a bit stifling. There are numerous insects and other small monsters you can sense in the grass nearby, though whenever you turn your attention too far outward, you find yourself stumbling a bit.

Suddenly, you notice a monster a distance ahead of you. It's some sort of lizard, though the details are difficult to make out using aura. You're not sure if it's hostile or not, but you open your eyes to use your normal vision. If walking with aura vision is this difficult, you're a long way off from fighting with it.

As you approach the spot where you saw the creature however, you don't see anything there anymore. It must have fled when you got closer. You're fortunate it wasn't hostile.

You resume walking once more.

You wander through the tall grass for a while longer, before eventually reaching a small clearing.

The grass is much shorter here, though what's more immediately interesting are the numerous swords in the clearing. There are at least a dozen with their blades thrust into the ground. It's rather unsettling, especially since the noise of other creatures in the grass is eerily silent, with the only noise being the wind rustling in the grass.

You turn to Lisa, who seems to be staring intently at a section of grass in particular.

"Something wrong?" you ask.

"No, I just thought I saw something."

You look over the swords more carefully. Maybe you could figure out what happened here.

There was most likely a battle, with someone taking the time to bury some of those who died here. Since there wasn't any blood, it probably wasn't very recent. It was a bit strange that the grass wasn't as tall here. Perhaps someone has been cutting it?

The swords themselves are strange as well, with all of them identical, save the one in the center. Most of the swords are fairly basic, likely commissioned in bulk for an army or similar force. The sword in the center however is different. It's much nicer, probably belonging to a captain or other commanding officer.

As you approach it, you get a better look at it's details. A wide golden hilt, with a scrap of cloth on the end. It flutters slowly in the breeze, though you hadn't noticed it until now. A large blue jewel is set upon the hilt, rather unique in it's appearance. If you didn't know better, you'd almost say it looked like an eye.

It is a rather nice sword, it seems like a shame to just leave it here. A small tug is all it would take too. You find yourself reaching out to grasp the handle of the sword.

You find your hand inexplicably drawn to the handle, and soon you find it held within your grasp.

You lift it from it's resting place in the ground, holding it aloft. You watch as the magnificent blue scarf trails gently around your arm. It's cool to the touch, and quite comfortable.

You suddenly hear noise behind you, and as you turn, you don't see your friends anywhere. Only dark shadows fill the clearing now. One bares its fangs at you, another floats silently in the air. One more creeps along the ground, while the final form takes almost a humanoid shape, silently judging you from afar.

You grip the blade in your hand, ready to strike down these shadows. You feel a dull pain in your arm, but you're certain it's nothing a battle couldn't solve. You've seen shadows like this before, in that forest with the stump.

Wait a moment, the forest with the stump. This was just like that. You're just dreaming.

You quickly analyze the situation. There were 4 shadows before you, and they line up almost perfectly with your companions. Meaning that the only remaining culprit, was the blade in your hand.

You glance down at it, and the jewel flickers as it looks up at you. You tighten your grip on it as it attempts to struggle away, preventing it from turning its blade towards anyone.

You slowly become aware of something in your other hand. Looking at it, you realize that it's a sheathe. A flash of inspiration strikes you, and you fight to place the sword in the sheathe, ending this nightmare.

As the hilt locks the blade into place, you open your eyes once more to find yourself standing in the clearing. The sheathe is in your hands, and the eye of the sword is a normal jewel once more. The holes in the sheathe make it appear to have a cruel face upon it, but that could just be your imagination.

The pain in your arm hasn't gone away though.

"Ceil?" Lisa asks, "Is something wrong? You were looking pretty weird, and then you were having a lot of trouble sheathing that sword. Where did you find that anyway?"

You glance down at the sword in your hands once again. You no longer felt any compulsion to wield it, though you're not sure what to do with it now.

We can't leave it here. If we do, someone else will come across it and they won't have the strength to sheathe it. We do need to set down ground rules with it though.

"Alright, so you know about how I use aura, right?"

"Right."

"Well, this was kinda like that. Whatever this sword did, only I ended up seeing it. It messed with my head, compelled me to pick it up, and then made me think all of you were replaced by evil shadows."

"That explains why you were acting so weird."

"Yeah. Fortunately I realized what was going on, and then I put this sword in the sheathe, which just appeared in my hands somehow. The only reason I figured it out was because this was so similar to what happened in that cabin in the forest a while back."

"You don't mean-"

"Yes, my dream was real, and there really are ghost monsters, and this sword is one of them. I think we also need to take it with us, mainly to make sure that nobody ever tries to wield it again. I don't want to risk someone else finding it and not being able to break out."

"R-right."

Lisa seems taken aback by all the events and revelations, but you feel like she understood you well enough. You take some rope from your pack and tie the sword down into the sheathe, just to make certain it doesn't slip out. Then, you place it within your bags, and set off once again through the field.

The two of you continue on your way. Fortunately, nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. You focus using aura on the sword in your pack, though it simply registers as not being there. You suppose it's obvious that a ghost monster wouldn't have a life force, though it never gets any less creepy.

You hear rustling in the grass, and you turn towards Lisa. However, you don't see her anywhere. Pidgeotto is currently roosting on your shoulder for a change, though it doesn't seem as concerned as you.

You take a deep breath before focusing. You needed to use your aura to find her. You search through the grass, trying to find where she is. It takes you a bit, but soon you spot her, crouching down a ways off.

You rush over to where she is before slowing your approach. You part the grass in front of you to find Lisa kneeling next to something. She turns to face you and you catch a glimpse of fur, which doubles in height before making a wild dash up her back and onto her head.

Lisa holds a finger to her lips as she pats the small creature. You inch closer to get a better look, and it resembles a small rodent. It's fur is a light brown, almost cream-colored, save for the markings on its body and tail. The rings seem to be a reddish-brown.

"I thought I noticed something following us earlier," Lisa whispers, "I found our culprit though."
