How to play: go into your choice of image editing program, paint or otherwise, pick a critter, change it incrementally, in response to the environment or other players. Save the image as a .png always. always use a hard line tool such as the pencil, never a paint brush, it makes the image hard to edit. keep it simple, not everyone is a Picasso. Anyone can evolve any creature, to include the one you just evolved as a splinter off that species. Each image represents a new species or variant. If you are a predator, you must name a species/ variant that you are preying on. As prey, the next evolution can respond in kind with an adaptation.

How to evolve: One evolution per turn. Color changes are not counted as such unless they indicate a significant change that you want to tell about. An evolution is a gradual thing. tiny nubs become feet or new appendages that are moved over time. Tell a story on why what is changing. IE: development of club to break rocks, club continues to be refined with selective survival, etc. Creativity is yours. On occasion I will instigate an event, a time of dramatic change and rapid evolution or perhaps even mutation.
>>
>>33196649
Story: Time is insignificant when a god is shattered. Each fragment went on to become it's own entity, carving a unique path through the clay of fate, growing to where the template could never be reassembled. You are the progeny of such a fragment, shattered over and over again. A variant, a species. You are made of various forms of carbon and minerals, constructed out of countless micro structures by a science lost on your tiny and insignificant mind. No more aware of it or able to control it than an organic its own body. However speed is on your side, and adaptations come faster than other species. Your home is and has always been this dark and endless stretch of caverns. Most of you feed of the abundant thermal and chemical energy provided by the magma vents, while some crystals glow dimly, alive as you are, but with no mind or ability other than to grow. Some consume these, some consume others. A few still harvest at the minerals of the cavern.

Survival is all that matters.

Tiny little creatures. Species 3 ekes out a survival strategy. They plant themselves, becoming tiny fingernail-sized fotresses. Think of Terran barnacles if you will.
They anchor themselves above thermal vents and gather the heat that radiates from beneath the deep places of the world. Mostly sedentary, but strong enough to keep other creatures from stealing their warmth. They viciously defend their source of energy, with comical waves of their tiny arms. Hopefully such displays will be enough. So far it is, as wings or horns or claws have not yet come to be.

No real change, other than the granting of a name and a method of gathering energy that every being requires.
Being machines, they would likely classify themselves in a different manner, but for our sakes, let us use Earth standards of taxonomy. or at least a mockery of them

Species 1 is not as massive, or quick, or much of anything. However it is opportunistic. Using it's wide flat appendages it simply clambers over, and on top of species 3, hitching a ride to the thermal vents. Frequently it will just absorb heat and mineral gasses not taken by species 1.

Species 4 wants to eat the Allanties primus, however the caput spurius are frequently on top of their preferred prey. The forward blade becomes more of a hook to prey off the meddlesome pests. This hook also helps to uproot the Allanite.

These little clans help protect their treasure troves of life-giving crystals. They rotate duties in shifts. Some stay home to guard their turf, others go out and hunt for more. Impressive for a creature this primitive.

They are called Caputi coetus, after the Latin word for "group".
