Iori nods, and stars forming a tight Life Fiber net using his uniform, closing off entry to the lab. Albeit muffled, you can hear him trying to contact Lady Ryuuko and Lady Satsuki. That's not what you should be concerned about right now, however. You turn to Hououmaru, who has no intentions of leaving.

She sighs. "What a nuisance. Breaching this net might take a moment."

"I'm afraid I won't let you try.", you say, brandishing the knives.

"Looks like I'll need to teach you the difference between a maid and a personal assistant."

Apart from what you just saw, you don't know anything about Hououmaru's combat capabilities. However, as Ragyou's assistant, it's very likely she is better than you. That doesn't mean you're going to give up. It does mean you will need to adjust your approach, however.

Most of your combat training was during the two weeks in which Lady Ryuuko and Lady Satsuki were kidnapped, but you've managed to pick up some pointers from Lady Ryuuko in the past week. She's told you that before going all out yourself, it really helps to find out what your opponent is capable of first.

You assume a defensive stance, and wait for Hououmaru to strike first. She gets close in a flash, and uses her sleeves like whips to lash at you. She's fast, but not awfully strong. Since you can't dodge the strikes, you run your knives along the sleeves instead. They get split in half, but promptly regenerate. You're not going to win like this.

"It appears I'll have to apply a bit more force than I expected.", she says.

And she keeps her word. The intensity of attacks rises, as does the strength behind them. The Two-Star uniform you've been given provides you with a considerable boost, but it's outclassed by Hououmaru's outfit. You manage to hold your own at first, but she quickly pushes you in the defensive. You lack the training to keep this up. Unless...

Hououmaru exploits your inattentiveness to knock the knives out of your hands, and slam you against the Life Fiber barrier. Thankfully, it's rather bouncy, but the collision is painful nevertheless.

You get up, and draw two more knives. You can't afford to get lost in thought in the middle of a fight. Then again, all you can do right now is stall her. Unless... Oh, that's right. There's that. Iori only briefly explained it to you, but it should be helpful. From what you know, however, it's rather exhausting as well.

Well, it's not like you were going to keep this up for long otherwise. You're not entirely sure how it works, though.

Hououmaru doesn't waste any time. She closes in on you again, and crosses her arms, forming her sleeves into blades.

"And that would be the difference I've mentioned earlier.", she says, and lunges towards your throat.

This could get ugly. Thankfully, you've figured it out on time. You stop the sleeve-blades with your knives with relative ease. Hououmaru's eyes widen in surprise.

"There is a difference, indeed. Life Fiber Overdrive."

Multiple jets of steam shoot out of your uniform, and the visible red threads on it start to glow. You feel a bit dizzy at first, but the feeling quickly fades. You push Hououmaru back just as she decides to jump back herself.

She adjusts her sunglasses. "Well, this is a bit unexpected. Nothing I can't compensate for, however."

She launches her sleeves towards you, causing the knives to fly out of your hands.

"Well, good thing I have a couple spare.", you say, drawing another pair.

"Eventually you will run out.", she answers.

And you do. After a short struggle, you are down to one last knife. You grip it tightly. You can't lose this one. All the effort would go to waste otherwise.

With Overdrive, your speed and strength are boosted, but against an opponent of this class, this only helps you defend yourself better. However, attack and defense is not all there is to a fight. Deception is part of it, as well.

If you could only lure her to the center of this "arena"...

You charge at your opponent, preparing to strike with the knife. Naturally, she blocks the attack, and prepares to retaliate. While it's hard to do so with only one knife, you somehow manage to repel her attacks. Suddenly, she wraps her sleeves around your knife, and starts to wrest it out of your hand.

"How disappointing. I thought you'd have learned from seeing me do the same to the Grand Couturier."

You immediately let go of the knife, and step back. She's in the dead center.

You allow yourself a tiny smirk. "You thought right."

Tiny star-shaped glimmers emerge from your uniform, and spread across the room. The knives, scattered all over the floor, start to move, and wrap Hououmaru in multiple red threads, immobilizing her.

"W-what is this?!", she chokes out.

"Every single one of those knives is connected to its respective holster with a thin Life Fiber, allowing me to manipulate them to a degree." You pick up the knife Hououmaru dropped in surprise, and point its blade at her. "I've made quite a mess. I believe it's time to reel them back in."

Pulled towards you by the Life Fibers, Hououmaru struggles to break free, as the distance between her and your knife's blade rapidly decreases. She sighs.

"Indeed, it appears Lady Ryuuko doesn't hire just anyone."

The threads constricting her snap audibly, and she breaks free just in time. The knives fly in all directions again, some of them towards you. By the time you're done dodging and catching them, Hououmaru makes her getaway.

"Still, you got her to run away, Ayako? That's awesome!", you say. You notice she's wearing a new uniform. It's the Two-Star you asked Iori to make.

She blushes slightly, and bows again. "I-it was merely within the task you've given me, milady."

"Come on, don't be like that! You've only trained for, what, several weeks? That's impressive as hell!"

Satsuki nods. "It is no small feat. I am reasonably certain that, while she's not a proper hybrid, Hououmaru is not merely using a Life Fiber outfit."

It seems it's a bit too much flattery for Ayako to handle. "T-thank you..."

"She's gone. No doubt about it. Probably retreated along with the surviving COVERS."

"I see. And what of the people we've rescued?"

"Mom and Dad are tending to them in the infirmary!", Mako chimes in. "Weird thing is, most of them were former One-Stars!"

"Lucky for us.", you say. "Iori made lots of One-Star uniforms, didn't he?"

Satsuki nods. "It is indeed fortunate. Now, we only have a little bit of time left, but I believe we should go over our strategy again. Inumuta?"

"Right away." A map of Tokyo Bay and the surrounding area is displayed on one of the screens.

"In order to thwart Ragyou's plans, we need to prevent her from connecting the Original Life Fiber to the transmitter located in Honnouji Academy.", Satsuki explains.

"Wouldn't it be enough to destroy the transmitter, then?", you ask. "She can't do anything without it, it seems."

"She no doubt has some kind of backup plan. To ensure our victory, we will need to target both the transmitter and the Original Life Fiber."

"Besides, you will have tons of One-Stars, Nui, and Ayako to help you. And it's not like you're going to just idly sit by yourselves, right?" Ryuuko smirks.

A while passes in uneasy silence. Impulsive as she might be, Jakuzure is right. You feel like you should be helping Lady Satsuki and Lady Ryuuko right now, but you're forced to wait.

"Well, it looks like you won't have to worry about not doing anything anymore, Jakuzure.", Inumuta suddenly says.

"Huh?"

"We're close enough to the Original Life Fiber now for me to pick it up on scanners. Lady Ryuuko and Lady Satsuki are fighting Ragyou, from what I can tell."

You approach him. "Are they doing well?"

I feel several characters are out-of-character from the show perspective, but there's always been a reason to explain the difference (and better reasons than the show gives for ooc moments like fight club mako and coldfibers)

No, no. Too risky. You've taken many risks in your life, but you never really liked to do it. Right now, the situation is simple. Even if Ragyou fails to carry out the original plan, Shinra Kouketsu will ensure she succeeds. The side-effects will be regrettable, but nothing humanity can't recover from.

However, you know Ragyou well. If she fails the first time, she will get unnerved. She might get desperate, even. Yes, to ensure the plan goes well, you will need to add a bit of a personal touch to this design. There's not much time left, but if you can't do it, nobody else can.

Well, in the end, even if Ragyou runs out of cards to play, you will still have several tricks you can use to turn the tide. Push comes to shove, you won't need her to succeed, either.

However, it's best to follow her plan for as long as it works.

"Those things are big, and have more than one host. What if we connect several of those weapons, and use them as a single one?" You lift two of them up, and try to connect them. They fit, somehow.

"This is absolutely ridiculous. But it might work. The suction effect should be amplified by connecting them together. Let's see what we can do."

With Inumuta's help, you create two massive weapons made out of seven Super Suction Savers each. All that's left is using them.

"What the hell is this supposed to be?", Kinagase asks.

"Cool!", Mankanshoku calls out. You're glad.

She's the only one who thinks so, though.

Well, there's Ryuuko for one, but in the context of the story, its understandable. She met Satsuki and the Devas early and learned a lot of revelations early so it makes sense that she's a bit more levelheaded here, choices aside, that is. As for the others, they should've been fleshed out more IMO.

It's too long for you to properly handle it by yourself. You opt to split into teams of three, and charge both of the huge COVERS with one spear each.

You locate the nearest trigger, and pull it. The device "docks" with the hulking white suit, and all seven barrels start spinning. One after another, people start flying out of the opposite end of the machine. This continues until the suit runs out of hosts, and falls apart.

Looking to the side, you notice the other team succeeded, as well.

"I must admit, Gamagoori, I'm impressed and surprised that this actually worked." Inumuta says while disconnecting the Super Suction Savers from each other.

"Yeah, that wasn't bad.", Jakuzure adds. "The name was terrible, though."

"...I don't like this." Sanageyama looks worried.

"What, the name?"

"...I think more COVERS are coming this way."

Kinagase sighs. "They're not giving up, are they?"

Five wardrobes land in front of you with a loud thud.

"I hope you're not giving up, either.", Iori says over radio.

"Otherwise our work will go to waste!", Harime adds.
